Treyarch Boss Teases Rather Obscure Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Blackout Reference

If you’re a fan of Treyach’s games, then chances are, you know who David Vonderhaar (or simply referred to as “Vahn”) is. For those who do not know, Vonderhaar is the studio’s Game Design Director, and is often the person harassed and quizzed by players on social media for anything related to Treyarch’s games.

While Vonderhaar usually sticks to personal tweets before a game’s out, that seems to be changing. This weekend, Vonderhaar posted a rather obscure Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 message that seems to pertain to the game’s battle royale mode, Blackout.

I’m not the best code-breaker in the world, but based on Vahn’s tweet, he’s in classified location doing “Blackout” things. And I think the “I Bet I see some of you, tho” part must reference other devs or YouTubers that are part of the playtest. The last line mentioning Purgatory for some reason makes me think of zombies, s maybe there really are zombies in the Black Ops 4 battle royale mode as mentioned in the big info leak we posted the other day?

What do you make of Vahn’s tweet? If you can decipher it better, hit us up in the comments.

In other Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 news, check out the contents of the Specialist Edition which confirms the return of gestures in mutiplayer! We also posted an in-depth video by the Digital Foundry people wherein they compare the Xbox One version of the Black Ops 4 beta to the Xbox One X version.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Xbox One vs Xbox One X Beta Analysis

For those who are fans of dissecting video games on a technical level, chances are you’ve heard of Digital Foundry. Well, they’re back at it again, and this time, they’re taking a look at the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 beta on Xbox One!

The 10-minute video goes in-depth the Black Ops 4 beta, and compares the Xbox One to its big brother, the Xbox One X. Check it out below.

Of course, the version to get is still possibly the PlayStation 4, since the marketing deal Activision has with Sony means that any DLC will be available on Sony’s platform first. That, and it seems that every year’s Call of Duty title is optimized for Sony’s consoles, with the rest an afterthought.

In other Black Ops 4 news, make sure to check this leaked info that talks about Blackout, Specialist story mode and more. Gestures are also coming back it seems, as evidenced by the Specialist Edition’s content.

Surprised at the results or not at all? Let us know what you think in the comments.

H1Z1: Just Survive Shutting Down This Coming October

You know what they say, “every good thing must come to an end.” Or in this case, every game in in Early Access, doesn’t make it out of Early Access — even if it costs actual money to play, had microtransactions and so on. In a blog post, Daybreak Games has announced that Just Survive, or more commonly known as H1Z1: Just Survive is shutting down.

According to Daybreak, Just Survive shutting down will happen this October 24, 2018 at 11 a.m. PT (8 a.m. ET). The studio has penned a letter to fans, which you can read below.

Dear Survivors,

After careful consideration, we’ve made the difficult decision to sunset Just Survive on Wednesday, October 24 at 11 a.m. PT. The excitement of the game’s promise was palpable and its loyal community is still full of ideas for its future. Unfortunately, we are no longer in a position to fulfill its greatness and the current population of the game makes it untenable to maintain.

Just Survive was part of our first Early Access project, and we learned a great deal during its development. As with any open world game, the greatest stories came from our passionate players. From the incredibly skilled base builders to the free-ranging gangs, and all of the players named variations of “ImFriendly” and “PleaseDontShootMe”, we hope everyone had amazing adventures across Pleasant Valley and Badwater Canyon.

Thank you for taking the time to play the game, to help test it when we opened the Test servers to the public, and for all of the suggestions and feedback throughout Early Access. We truly appreciate everyone’s commitment and your contributions throughout the development process. Our promise is to do better and learn from every experience along the way.

Just Survive servers will remain available for play until Wednesday, October 24 at 11 a.m. PT, and starting immediately all Steam purchases and in-game transactions have been disabled. To find out if you are eligible for a refund via Steam, please visit this link.

Thank you again for your support and dedication to Just Survive.

Best,

The Just Survive Team at Daybreak Games

Battlefield V Gun Customization Detailed in New Images

I don’t know about the rest of you, but one of my favorite things to do in multiplayer first-person shooters in fixing my loadout, and customizing my weapon of choice. Thankfully, the gun customization in Battlefield V will be like in previous entries in the franchise, and won’t be as basic as it was in Battlefield 1.

Thankfully, Reddit dedo_ninja posted a slew of images not only showing us what kind of attachments we can tweak in Battlefield V, but there’s even screens of the different sights that we can be equipped too.

If you check screenshot #2, you’ll see that gun customization in Battlefield V consists of changing the sights, muzzle, barrel, magazine, receiver, reargrip, and stock! You can even change how each part looks, too! Sure, it might not be historically accurate, but this will definitely be good news for those who want to grind for stuff, and who are gun camo fans.

In other Battlefield V news, make sure to check out the list of (confirmed) weapons in the game so far. We also posted game details straight from gamescom, with confirmation that medics can now equip two pieces of equipment along with the syringe (revive tool).

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Specialist Edition Bonus Contents Revealed, Gestures Confirmed to Be Back

If you’re planning on getting a higher tiered version of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, and you’re not in the US, you might want to consider the “Specialist Edition.” Available in Game UK, EB Games Canada, and more, the Black Ops 4 Specialist Edition includes the following digital content.

  • A Gesture
  • Bonus Specialist Outfit
  • 1,100 Call of Duty Points
  • Calling Card
  • Emblem

black ops 4 gestures

With gestures coming back, this must mean that the “Winner’s Circle” should be making a return again. For those not familiar with it, the Winner’s Circle showcased the top three scoring players on the winning team during which, the players shown can press buttons on the d-pad to have their character perform gestures. During the Black Ops 4 multiplayer beta, there was no Winner’s Circle, nor were any gestures featured.

Also of note, COD Points are indeed coming back which means we’re going to get loot boxes yet again.

In other Black Ops 4 news, make sure you check out this big info leak that we posted just a few hours ago where Specialist story missions and more are detailed.

Fortnite to Feature Input-Based Matchmaking, Separating KB/M Users With Controllers

With Fortnite cementing its status as the most popular game of the year by a landslide, it’s easy to see why a lot of players would want to have every bit f advantage they can get when playing Epic Games’ battle royale shooter.

Unfortunately, that resulted in keyboard & mouse players going up against people using control pads (controllers). While the consoles vs. PC debate touches on a lot of things, one thing consoles can’t come close to is how accurate and easy it is to aim using a keyboard and mouse. Having said that, this meant that a lot of console “sweats” (read: try hard players) are using adapters to stomp people who are using controllers. Well, thankfully, Epic Games has a solution! As part of its “State of Development” for Fortnite this month, the studio has announced that it will roll out “input-based matchmaking” which means that the game will match KB+M players with players that are using the same control set up and so on.

Input-Based Matchmaking
We have an upgrade to our matchmaking logic that will allow for a more even playing field when enjoying Fortnite with your input device of choice. In an upcoming release we’ll be implementing input based matchmaking, which will pair you against players who are using the same peripherals (e.g. controller vs controller, KB+M vs KB+M).

Let’s break that down:

  • If anyone in your party uses a mouse and keyboard on console, you will be matchmade with PC players and other KB+M players (as if you partied up with a PC player).

The current crossplay rules still apply. For example, partying up with a PC player will always put you in a PC pool, regardless of your input type.

Custom Controls
We are hoping to land this later in the year, and it will give you the ability to completely remap your gamepad to exactly your preference. In addition to customization, we’re continuing to hammer away at feel and optimizations for controllers across all platforms.

This is definitely good news, no? I do wonder how Epic will implement this since some people can use a controller, and just plug in a KB+M adapter of sorts once the match has started. Let’s hope the studio has thought of this little workaround and already has a solution in mind.

You can read the rest of the post that details weapon balance passes, and a whole lot more right here.

In case you didn’t know, the For Honor Starter Edition is free on Steam for a limited time (August 22-27), and what’s more, this isn’t a free to play weekend, no siree! Anyone who downloads For Honor during this period on Steam will get to keep it forever! Yep, it’s literally For Honor free download edition!

Newcomers who want to jump in now can download the For Honor Starter Edition for free and keep it forever on Steam between August 22 at 10.00am PST and August 27 at 10.00am PST. The For Honor Standard Edition is also part of Xbox’s Games with Gold and is available for free for Xbox Live Gold members until September 15.

With the For Honor free version going on for a few days, this resulted in the For Honor concurrent players number to reach well over 210,000, which is the game’s all-time high according to GitHyp. The 24-hour peak right this moment is sitting at a cool 137,000, which is still quite impressive.

Of course, the real test here is whether For Honor can keep this concurrent player level up. If it does, well, chalk one up for Ubisoft’s marketing team for a job well done.

Treyarch “Committed” to 60 Frames Per Second for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Battle Royale

While some gamers have always chided the Call of Duty franchise for playing it safe, or not pushing the most out of each hardware it’s on, first-person shooter fans have always appreciated how the franchise has stuck to its 60 frames-per-second guns for the most part to make the multiplayer experience the best for gamers.

Can this same technical feat be applied to Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s battle royale mode, Blackout? While there’s no definite answer from Treyarch, the studio has said it’s “committed” to bring 60fps to the Black Ops 4 battle royale mode.

In an interview with Eurogamer, Treyarch co-studio head Dan Bunting shared this statement, and now the pillar of Treyarch has always been to deliver the performance “players need.”

Eurogamer: One of the things I love about Call of Duty is it’s steadfast in its commitment to 60 frames per second. Is that something you’re committed to for the battle royale mode as well?

Dan Bunting: We are always committed to 60 frames per second with every chance we possibly can. And of course, there’s always circumstances where you might dip down. But a core pillar of our team is to always deliver the performance players need, especially in multiplayer type gameplay settings.

That sounds like a yes.

Dan Bunting: Yes! It is our commitment.

Well, that’s definitely a nice statement to hear. Of course, given how Blackout will most assuredly have more than 10-12 players at any given time, that might be easier said than done. And when you factor in vehicles, which have been confirmed to be part of the mode, well, it’s hard to see it happening.

Do you think Black Ops 4’s battle royale mode can keep the game running at 60fps even with a lot of things happening on screen? Let us know what you think in the comments below.

The Division 2 Extra Stash Space Locked Behind the Ultimate Edition

Just a few days ago, we posted that Ubisoft’s The Division 2 is now up for -pre-orders with quite a handful of different editions. Well, it seems there’s more to that than meets the eye.

It seems that those who buy the Ultimate Edition of The Division 2, which costs $119.99 compared to the standard edition’s $59.99, will have extra stash space. Over on Ubisoft’s store, the extra stash space is even highlighted as one of the “features.”

FEATURES

  • The Ultimate Edition includes additional digital content, the Year 1 Pass, and three-day early access to the game.
  • Includes the Elite Agent Pack with exotic assault rifle, unique skill effect, and additional stash space.
  • Includes the Battleworn Secret Service Pack with Battleworn Secret Service outfit, emote, and weapon skin.
  • Also includes the First Responder Pack with First Responder outfit and First Responder weapon skin.

YouTuber SkillUp has posted a video of it where he talks about the issue, and even got a response from a Ubisoft representative at gamescom (around the 08:15 mark on the video).

Why were stash slots included as part of the Ultimate Edition, given how much of a core need stash space is for all players?

This edition was designed for our most engaged players in mind and we provided items that they will find useful in the endgame, such as more stash space. The extra stash space available in the Ultimate Edition is an additional layer of comfort for those who want it.

That being said, our goal is to make sure stash space will be sufficient for all players, no matter which edition they choose or if they pre-order or not.

While having extra stash space won’t affect gameplay directly, nor give anyone an outright advantage, it shouldn’t be used to sell a higher priced tier of the game either — especially since the non-standard versions of the game already give three days of early access. Of course, if Ubisoft gives players a ton of stash space (especially compared to the first game), then this issue won’t be an issue at all.

What do you think? Is this a clever marketing move by Ubisoft or are we going down another slippery slope in terms of locking features for more premium versions of a game? Let us know what you think in the comments.

The Division 2 will be released this March 15, 2019 on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Dying Light 2 to Have a “Huge Online Component” According to Techland

With Dying Light 2 officially being announced at this year’s E3, players should expect more than just zombies this time around. While there’s no Dying Light 2 multiplayer details out yet, the game will have some sort of online component it seems.

In an interview with YouTuber Rocket Beans, Lead Designer Tymon Smektala confirmed that Dying Light 2 will have a huge online component, though they’re not ready to talk details just yet. Just in case anyone’s wondering, nope, it’s not battle royale or anything of the sort. the studio has Dying Light: Bad Blood for that.

So, we’re not talking much about multiplayer at gamescom or at E3, but we have a very huge surprise for the players. It’s not a battle royale, so don’t ask, but there’s a huge online component to the game, and I think that’s everything I can talk about this moment. Sorry, guys!

Smektala talks about it roughly around the 17:20 mark in the video.

Huge online component? Maybe it’s a sandbox shared world with PvE and PvP multiplayer? One can hope, no? What do you want to see in Dying Light 2’s online component? Let us know what you think down in the comments.

One of the biggest ones in terms of gameplay mechanics is that the medic class can now equip two items AND a syringe! Yes, that means you don’t need to leave your revive tool just so you can bring a grenade launcher and a healing kit!

Another bit of info that’s now known is the redesigned minimap and squads menu! It now shows your squads’ health in a circular healthbar around their names.

Call of Duty: WWII Fourth DLC “Shadow War”Detailed, Party Up Map Access Announced

If you’re still pouring in time with Call of Duty: WWII, then chances are, you’re looking forward to its fourth — and last — DLC pack. Titled “Shadow War,” Activision has just announced that the COD WW2 DLC 4 release date is set for August 28 on the PlayStation 4!

Same as the previous map packs for COD WW2, it’ll include three multiplayer maps, a new War mode mission, and the “epic conclusion” to Nazi Zombies. Check out the trailer below.

You can read up on each new map and its details as well.

Airship

Set in a secret enemy base high in the Alps, Airship takes the battle to new heights. Fight for control of the docked zeppelin, or take your chances running along a treacherous cliff, where one slip up can lead to an unfortunate trip down the mountain that will end in a respawn.

Chancellery

The enemy forces have taken hold of a French Chancellery, but they won’t expect a chaotic firefight in the middle of the night. Wrest control of the stronghold’s main courtyard, while covering your team from the flanking pathways to the map’s main area for this epic night-time brawl behind enemy lines.

Excavation

In an Algerian mine, the enemy stockpiled priceless art and gold from their European conquests. The battle will ensue around these pillaged goods, the dunes of a tank graveyard, and rock outcroppings scattered around the map.

Operation Arcane

On top of these Multiplayer experiences, there is also Operation Arcane, a new War Mode Mission that will take players deep within a secret enemy research facility in the Austrian mountains. Allied Forces players will be tasked with infiltrating this lab, stealing enemy secrets and schematics and finally destroying whatever classified technology remains in a hanger full of UFOs.

Of course, being that it is a research facility, there are a few clandestine weapons, such as the Tesla Gun, and mysterious super soldier serums that players can use to help turn the tide of battle.

Activision is also rolling out a new “feature” of sorts with this fourth DLC map pack called “Party Up Map Access.” Starting this August 28 and lasting until October 28, Season Pass owners can create an in-game Party, act as the Party Leader, invite non-Season Pass owning friends, and have them play the new content! Let’s hope this feature makes its way to Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 as well.

Xbox One and PC gamers, expect Shadow War to make its way to your platform in about 30 days’ time.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Battle Royale Mode to Have “Well-Balanced” Land, Sea & Air Vehicles

While Treyarch has given us a date on when we can expect the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 battle royale mode — Blackout — will drop, there’s not a lot of info to go on in terms of specifics. Well, it seems things are about to change starting today.

Speaking to PCGamer, Treyarch’s Director of Communications John Rafacz revealed that Blackout will be able to drive vehicles “by land, sea and air,” and that’ll be “well-balanced.”

There’s a range of vehicles that I think are well-balanced to match with the on-foot combat. It isn’t like you’re driving a tank, trying to fight against a dude with a scavenged submachine gun. They’re all well-balanced. We’ve been having a lot of playtests at Treyarch over the last several months getting ready for this, and it’s a blast to play. It feel great. It feels like Black Ops.

Given Treyarch’s experience in Call of Duty: World at War, gamers should be in for a treat.

In other Black Ops 4 Blackout news, don’t forget that if you were part of the multiplayer beta, you shouldn’t delete the beta client as it’ll be used for Blackout as well.

DICE: It’s a Shame We Didn’t Add Women in Battlefield 1

When the trailer for Battlefield V was released, possibly one of the biggest reactions the trailer received was its inclusion of women in the frontlines. While some fans might still be infuriated at this historical inaccuracy, it seems DICE doesn’t share the same sentiment.

Speaking with GamesRadar, Aleksander Grondal, Executive Producer at DICE, states that he wished that they included in Battlefield 1 as well.

I mean, if we were getting on the bandwagon, I created Battlefield 1, and we could’ve ‘jumped on the bandwagon’ that time around.

I think it’s a shame we didn’t [add women], because that perhaps would’ve been better for us. I don’t think it’s a bandwagon thing, I think it’s about gamers wanting to express themselves in different ways. If you take a look at Battlefield historically, it’s been about expressing yourself through gameplay, solving problems the way you want to, and these characters fall perfectly in line with that thinking.

While some might think Grondal doesn’t care about the fans that are against the inclusion of women as playable characters, he explains why they’re doing it for Battlefield V, and it’s due to simply making the game be as personalized as possible.

Of course, any time that someone is upset about some choices that you make in the game, it’s not great.

It’s not what you want to do, you want to create a game that’s the best game for all our players. That being said, we decided to make a game that involved personalising a character, creating your own company of soldiers. And we thought it was right that you could be able to be whomever you wanted to be in that context. We stand by that. I still think it’s the right thing to do, and I still think it’s the right thing for us as a franchise. It takes a good bit of balancing.

Personally, for me, it’s just a character skin. It’s not like you’ll run faster or slower, or it’ll affect gameplay. It’ll add more cosmetic choices as well, so there’s more to grind and unlock, right?
