Hero Skin Selection

Fashion-forward heroes, rejoice! Players can now change hero skins with the “Select Skin” dropdown menu in the Hero Select screen at the start of a match. Show off your favorite unlocked skins when playing solo or coordinate with your friends to be the best dressed on the battlegrounds of tomorrow.

HERO UPDATES

Doomfist

Hand Cannon

Damage reduced from 11 to 6

Number of bullets fired increased from 6 to 11

Spread pattern made more consistent

Developer Comments: We have made a lot of progress with Doomfist’s movement in recent patches but we wanted to revisit his Hand Cannon. While the damage per bullet has been lowered, the number of bullets he fires per Hand Cannon shot has been increased which makes his overall damage output unchanged. Overall, these changes will help his Hand Cannon feel much more consistent.

Reaper

Death Blossom

Now fires at players behind barriers

Developer Comments: Previously, Reaper’s Death Blossom would target barriers but not the players hiding behind them. This change will make it more effective against shields and consistent with how other auto-target abilities work (e.g. McCree’s Deadeye, Symmetra’s Sentry Turret).

Monster Hunter World Update 1.05 Released, Includes a Lot of Fixes

In case you were having issues with Monster Hunter World’s matchmaking among other things, Capcom has released Monster Hunter World update 1.05 (1.0.0.10 on Xbox One), and it fixes bowguns, and more.

Clocking in at a super small 81MB on the PlayStation 4, the Monster Hunter World update is now live! Check out the patch notes below to see what changes were made.

Squads (PlayStation 4)

  • Fixed an issue where the error message “Failed to retrieve squad information. Please wait and try again.” would appear and squad features would not be usable. However, as a result of this fix, players who were affected by this bug will have all of their squad data reset. Additionally, players in squads whose squad leaders have their data reset will also see any affiliated data disappear the next time they log in. We apologize sincerely for the inconvenience, and ask that you reform squads or reinvite players whose data are lost.
  • Fixed an issue where, rarely, uninvited non-squad members could join a Squad Online Session, or squad members could not join one of their own. Squad Online Sessions can still be joined by players outside of the squad via friend invite or Online Session ID search.

5 Million Celebration Item Pack

  • Fixed an issue where some players could not claim the item pack “5 Million Celebration Item Pack”. The availability for this item pack has been extended to February 22, 23:59 (UTC).

Decorations

  • Fixed an issue where, under certain conditions, decorations would be lost.
  • Fixed an issue that occurred when selecting items with the “Sell Items” option (from the item box inside base camp tents) by hiding the decorations tab.

General Light Bowgun and Heavy Bowgun ammo changes

  • Increased the power of Normal Ammo (1, 2, 3), Pierce Ammo (1, 2, 3), and all elemental ammo (except Dragon Ammo).
  • Decreased the power of Slicing Ammo, and reduced the effect it has when hitting other players.
  • Reduced the maximum number of Slashberries you can hold in your item pouch from 60 to 30. Players can still use any remaining extra Slashberries if they currently have more than 30 in their item pouch.

Elderseal

  • Readjusted the Elderseal calculation for dragon pods.

Endemic Life

  • Fixed an issue where information on endemic life would disappear from the Wildlife Map when moving about the field.

Quests

  • Fixed an issue where the assignment “Flying Sparks: Tobi-Kadachi” would not appear on the quest board after departing on a different quest in the middle of speaking with the Chief Botanist just before the quest is first assigned.
  • Fixed a rare bug that would cause players to lose control of their characters when completing a quest with certain start menu sub-menus open.

Xbox One matchmaking

Our development team is also working tirelessly on pinpointing the issues with matchmaking on Xbox One. We apologize for the delay and appreciate your continued patience and support as we track down and solve these issues.

In the meantime, if you’re unable to use the “Matchmake” option to connect to other hunters, you may still be able to create online lobbies, join others’ lobbies via “Filter Search”, “Invite a Friend”, connect via Xbox One LFG, or join hunts by using the “Respond to SOS” feature.

And in case you haven’t tried this yet, it’s been reported that some hunters have had success using the “Matchmake” feature after setting their NAT connection settings to “Open” on their Xbox One.

In other Monster Hunter World news, don’t forget to check out how mantles work in the game, and how to get ’em. We also posted a weakness chart for monsters, that should make your slaying a tad easier.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Release Date: Take-Two CEO “Confident” in It

Red Dead Redemption 2 release date? Strauss Zelnick is confident it’ll be out by then.

Just last week, Rockstar dropped a bombshell in announcing the Red Dead Redemption 2 release date. While the game has been pushed back repeatedly, it seems this time, the Red Dead Redemption 2 release date is the real deal.

In today’s earnings call by Take-Two, which is Rockstar Games’ parent company, CEO Strauss Zelnick talked a bit about the delays, and how he’s “confident” that the October 26 release date is finally, truly, the set date.

The entire focus of this organisation is on delivering the highest quality entertainment experiences of any kind,” Zelnick stated during the call. “More often than not, we feel proud that we’re able to do that. All of our labels are focused on releasing a title when they reach that apex of effort and perfection. And in this instance, Rockstar Games felt more polish was required, and naturally we are in favour of that decision [delaying the game]. The date of October 26 is set, and I am confident that will be the release date. We are incredibly excited about it.

Red Dead Redemption 2 was originally announced back in October 2016, with the targeted release window set for the second half of 2017. It got a delay pushing it into the first half of 2018, and got another one before the publisher nestled on October 26.

Given how October 26 falls smack dab right in the middle of the holiday buying season, I don’t doubt that Take-Two will push hard for the date. Mind, October or not, RDR2 will sell like hotcakes.

In other RDR2 news, make sure to check out this massive leak that talks about multiplayer and more.

Report: Google Game Streaming Service in the Works

Multi-billion dollar company Google has its hands in a lot of things, but can game services be one of the company’s newest endeavors?

In a report by The Information, it states that Google is looking into the game streaming service platform, and has been doing so for the past two years. Codenamed “Yeti,” the recent report mentions that it is close to “possible hardware” and be streamed using Google’s own Chromecasts.

Google’s reported attempt at a Google games streaming service will not differ from existing cloud-based services like PlayStation Now. This rumor is bolstered more by the fact that former Sony PlayStation executive Phil Harrison has been snatched up by Google, and all signs are pointing to this gaming initiative for the recent hiring.

Take all of these with a grain of salt for now though. However, given Google’s size and very wide reach, any murmur of the tech giant entering the video game space is news indeed, and one I assume Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo are keeping close eyes on.

Do you want Google to enter the video game sector? Is this the first step in the company’s plan to release a Google branded gaming console? Share your thoughts in the comments.

Monster Hunter World Server Issues Plaguing the Game Once Again

If you’re trying to play Monster Hunter World, but find that you’re getting kicked from parties, or from answering SOS calls, then don’t fret! It’s not your internet, but rather, there are Monster Hunter World server issues happening once again!

Those keeping tabs on the game, the same issue was happening just last week, with Capcom issuing a patch to fix the troubled matchmaking aspect, though it didn’t take, which forced the company to roll out a new patch just a day after.

What’s weird is, there was a planned Monster Hunter World maintenance period for PSN that took place yesterday, but it was only scheduled for two hours. It was scheduled for 12 a.m. to 2 a.m. UTC (7 p.m. ET to 9 p.m. ET). Is there a chance this server issues are part of that maintenance? It might be the case. That said, the Xbox One version is still encountering matchmaking issues even after the patch, which Capcom has acknowledged.

The Monster Hunter World community on Reddit has also discussed the server issues, which means a lot of people are getting hit with it.

While the issues are being sorted out, check out this quick mantles guide to see how valuable the equipment is. Or if you haven’t checked the game out yet, go read our review to see why we’re so high up on the game.

Once we know more about the game’s server issues, we’ll update the post.

Destiny 2 Crimson Days Event Goes Anti-Eververse

The Destiny 2 Crimson Days event starts on February 13, and brings some Valentine’s Day festivities to the game. Bungie has provided details on all the activities, which will be available for one week.

The Crucible will feature a 2v2 Clash mode, with “a round-based twist.” A new map variant, called The Burnout, will also be available for player to explore.

The main reward, Crimson Engrams, can only be earned through gameplay. Players will not be able to purchase them from Tess!

Here’s what Bungie is packing into the Destiny 2 Crimson Days rewards, along with some developer tips on the best way to earn them:

The best way to earn rewards during Crimson Days is to compete in the Crimson Days Crucible playlist, and we’ve tuned the experience to focus on rewarding single-character play. Most rewards are found within a new Crimson Engram, with all contents on a “knock-out” list, preventing you from receiving duplicate items until you’ve earned all of the new gear.

No matter which activity you play in Destiny 2 during Crimson Days, every player will receive both an Illuminated Engram and a Crimson Engram when they level up. Crimson Engrams are only earnable through gameplay, and are not capped or limited during the event. To qualify, you need only to reach the level cap for your Guardian (that’s 25 if you’ve acquired Expansion 1; 20 if you haven’t).

There are also five new rewards found exclusively for players who complete the following:

  • Complete the milestone “Welcome to Crimson Days” by finishing five Crimson Days matches and visiting Lord Shaxx in the Tower to earn the Fire of the Crimson Days Emblem and the Tirastrella Ghost Shell.
  • Complete matches in the Crimson Days Crucible playlist for a chance to earn the Undeterred Exotic Sparrow.
  • Complete either the Leviathan Raid or the Raid Lair: Eater of Worlds to claim the Dieselpunk Exotic Ornament for Wardcliff Coil from the final chest.
  • Complete the Nightfall Strike during the Crimson Days event to earn the Flaunting Dance Emote.

Will you be grabbing a partner and taking part in the Destiny 2 Crimson Days event? Let us know.

In other Destiny 2 news, several top Destiny YouTubers have lessened their support of the game, Bungie is hiring a new community manager, and the developer explains the faction rewards throttle and incoming adjustments. It also appears that the Destiny 2 Gods of Mars expansion has leaked (again)!

PUBG Player Count Dips for First Time Ever

I find myself regularly visiting the Steam Charts site, to keep an eye just how successful PUBG has become. With the battle royale game becoming a phenomenon unlike anything else we’ve seen in recent years, I’m pretty addicted to watching it blow up.

Looking at the average PUBG player count today, however, has resulted in a bit of a shock. For the first time ever, the average number of players has dropped by over 36,000.

pubg player count

Of course, this is likely nothing to worry about, as despite the 36,000 decrease, the average is still over 1.5 million! And, at time of writing, there’s over 2.7 million players online!

What’s the reason for the lower average PUBG player count? It’s not so clear. There’s the competition from Fortnite, the new anti-cheat measures, and other factors which could have made an impact.

Are you still playing PUBG? Let us know.

In other PUBG news, Reshade has been totally blocked despite the anti-cheat patch delay, over 1 million cheaters were banned in January 2018 alone, and a new PUBG Invitational has been announced.

New Rainbow Six Siege Outbreak Trailer Calls for Action, Free Trial Coming Next Week

Ubisoft is going all out with Rainbow Six Siege this month, as not only is there new content set to drop, but there’s even a free weekend set to go live soon!

There’s a new Rainbow Six Siege Outbreak trailer that bins the super serious narrative the game has, and instead focuses on aliens. Yep, you read that right! Check out the trailer below to see a sneak teaser of this upcoming co-op event!

Ash needs biohazard specialist Operators to contain this outbreak! Enter the quarantine zone in the city of Truth or Consequences and face the monstrosities that lurk there in Operation Chimera!

In other Rainbow Six Siege news, there’s also a free trial set to go live next week on February 15, and will run until February 18. It’ll coincide with the Outbreak event reveal, which is happening on the Rainbow Six Invitationals on February 18. I gather, we’ll see it released the same day as the reveal or soon after, but don’t take my word for it.

You can read up on more details about Outbreak and Operation Chimera right here.

Who’s ready to take down some aliens, and tangle in co-op? Or should Ubisoft stop this fictional stuff, and focus on more maps and Operators?

Monster Hunter World Mantles – How to Get Them All

Monster Hunter World armor isn’t the only defense in the game you need to think about.

In Monster Hunter World, a lot of fights boil down to what armor you’re wearing, and what weapon you’re currently using. However, there’s a hidden game-changer that lies within, and these are the mantles! Those not familiar with the equipment, think of it as Monster Hunter World armor, but instead of giving you added defense, it has a few other things that protect you from.

You can check out the super quick list below to see how to get all the Monster Hunter World mantles, and what they do.

Apothecary Mantle

Use: Increases status accumulation for a short time.

Unlock: To earn this mantle, players need to fully research 10 monsters. Armory lady will then give you a quest.

Immunity Mantle

Use: Removes & Nullifies abnormal status effects for the duration of the mantle

Unlock: To earn this mantle, players need to fully research 15 monsters. Same as above.

 Impact Mantle

Use: Adds exhaust/stun to attacks, and improves weapons that already exhaust/stun.

Unlock: Players need to hunt five unique threat level 1 tempered monsters (Pukei, Anja, Tobi, Barroth, Rathian, Radobaan, Paolumu, etc) to unlock this mantle.

Evasion Mantle

Use: Increases evasion window, grants increased attack when evading at the last second.

Unlock: Players need to hunt seven unique tempered threat level 2 monsters (Bazel, Rathalos, Odogaron, Diablos, Black Diablos, Legiana, Urugaan, etc) to unlock this one.

Rocksteady Mantle

Use: Provides HG earplugs, tremor/wind res, prevents flinching.

Unlock: Players need to hunt three Unique tempered elder dragons to unlock this one.

Ghillie Mantle

How To Unlock: The first mantle you unlock. Automatically unlocked in the story.

Ability: The Ghillie Mantle turns your hunter invisible. Enemies will not attack while the mantle is active, but attacking or taking damage will remove the effect.

 Glider Mantle

How To Unlock: The second mantle you unlock. Earned after completing the first assignment in the Coral Highland.

Ability: Allows you to glide while jumping, or to ride air-currents. Makes mounting large monsters much easier.

Challenger Mantle

How To Unlock: Complete ‘The Red and Blue Crew’ quest.

Ability: Draws aggro from monsters, making them target you more often. The effect is removed after taking damage.

Vitality Mantle

How To Unlock: (it’s from a low rank mission. Please advise me what mission it is so I can update you with accurate information.)

Ability: Makes your hunter invulnerable for a period of time. Effect wears off when time expires and or damaged by a very powerful attack that exceeds it’s limit.

Bandit Mantle

How To Unlock: Complete the Level 5 ‘Redefining the Power Couple’ quest.

Ability: Damage threshold on monsters drop ‘trade in’ material only for more zenny (money). Better to farm elder dragons to get the most money. If you see gold shards on the ground, it’s from the bandit mantle.

Fireproof Mantle

How To Unlock: Complete ‘A fiery Convergence.’

Ability: Improves fire element resistance and makes you immune to fireblight.

Iceproof Mantle

How To Unlock: Complete the ‘Armory R&D: Weatherizing’ bounty.

Ability: Improves ice element resistance and makes you immune to iceblight.

Waterproof Mantle

How To Unlock: Complete the ‘Armory R&D: Waterproofing’ bounty.

Ability: Improves water element resistance and makes you immune to waterblight. Allows you to move faster in swamps and high water.

 Thunderproof Mantle

How To Unlock: Complete the Level 5 ‘Gone in a Flash’ quest. (This quest is a hidden gem, you need to do the capture missions on the optionals. Soon you will get a quest from the “impatient Biologist” to hunt down and kill Kirin the Elder Dragon)

Ability: Improves thunder element resistance and makes you immune to thunderblight / paralyzing shocks.

There you go! If you need more help, don’t forget to check out this Monster Hunter World weakness chart to know what weapons and elements to use against enemies! Make sure to give our review a go too, to see why we gave it a glowing 9.5/10!

NBA 2K18 Update 1.10 Dribbles Out

NBA 2K18 update 1.10 dribbles out of bounds!

Visual Concepts has just released NBA 2K18 update 1.10, and while it’s a hefty 5.7GB download on the PlayStation 4, we currently don’t know the exact stuff that got added, tweaked or changed.

Unfortunately, 2K Games is continuing its “roll out a patch, and don’t give an update until hours or days after” approach. We’ll be checking every possible source available to see what’s new in NBA 2K18 update 1.10, but for now, you’ll have to do it the old fashioned way — by playing it and finding out for yourself.

The last NBA 2K18 update added the Combine, so there’s a chance this could be fixes to the bugs introduced there. What we do know is that this patch introduces the new All-Star game uniforms that Team LeBron and Team Steph will be wearing later this month.

If you see any new changes, please let us know down in the comments. We’ll be updating this post the moment 2K releases the official patch notes.

DICE Explains the Fight Against Battlefield 1 Cheats and Exploits

Developer DICE has provided an insight into how it handles players who use Battlefield 1 cheats and exploits. A detailed (but not too detailed) blog post explains the various Battlefield 1 anti cheat systems that are in place, and what measures are being taken to help keep the fight fair.

Here’s a rundown of what DICE deems safe to share:

State of Play: Removing Cheaters

Over the past six months, we’ve steadily ramped up our anti-cheat efforts, working closely with the FairFight team to detect and remove more cheaters than ever before. In October alone, we sanctioned over 8,500 accounts. Since then, instances of cheating have declined. While we have made significant gains, we still can do more.

Improvements to FairFight In-game Messaging

Battlefield 1 veterans may remember the global messaging that was sent every time FairFight had acted against a player. As we ramped up our efforts against cheaters, these messages became a distraction from other in-game discussions, and they were disabled a few months ago based on your feedback. However, our communication about this created some questions. Going forward, our communication will be more clear, transparent, and proactive.

Soon, you’ll see a new form of FairFight messaging. This will condense the combined bans from the last 24 hours into a single in-game post, sent every few hours.

How and When a Player Gets Sanctioned

We saw a rise in the number of social media posts claiming FairFight had banned players incorrectly after the October ban wave mentioned above. However, we are confident that our detection methods produce accurate results. Cheat developers may be attempting to manipulate players’ minds about anti-cheat tools, and to leverage detection information from game developers.

A common misconception regarding FairFight is that higher skilled players are more likely to get sanctioned due to their improved match stats. This is not correct; it is not possible to be banned simply for being skilled.

An important note: unfortunately, we cannot respond to your account questions on social media or the forums. If you believe that your account has been sanctioned by mistake, the best thing you can do is to contact our disputes team: https://help.ea.com/help/account/information-about-banned-or-suspended-accounts.

Protect Your Account – and Help Everyone Out

Be aware that you are responsible for the activity that takes place on your EA Account. Spending a few minutes to ensure your account is secured can avoid possible heartbreak! Learn how to protect your account with a strong password and login verification here: https://help.ea.com/help/account/how-to-maintain-account-security.

It’s good to see developers explaining the process behind monitoring and blocking cheaters. I think this kind of transparency and communication is key to building a trusting community.

In other Battlefield 1 news, you can read up on the latest set of patch notes here, YouTuber LevelCap shared his thoughts on EA manipulating the media, and all Operations are now accessible to all players with no Premium Pass requirement.
