Destiny 2 Time-to-Kill Chart Identifies The Best Weapons

It’s always good to see gamers going the extra mile to help out the community. Over on Reddit, user DrunkAtTheJug has repurposed his fellow Good Samaritan Mercules904‘s Destiny 2 time-to-kill compiling spreadsheet, in order to make for an easy-to-read chart.

Players can use this tool to work out which weapons are most competitive in the Crucible, for example. So, if you’re struggling to outplay the enemy, even though your aim appears to be true, give this analysis a browse to see where you might be going wrong.

Here’s a glimpse at what the chart looks like:

Check out the full resolution chart here, where you can easily compare weapons.

After loving hand cannons in the original Destiny, I’m sad to see that they pretty much suck in Destiny 2!

Which stats do you find most interesting? Let us know in the comments down below.

PUBG Copycat Clone Actually Looks Impressive, Uses Terminator License

As PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds grows increasingly more popular and continues to dominate the gaming world, it’s only expected that a few copycats would appear. Enter this new Terminator game, which boasts a 48-player battle royale mode. What’s most impressive, is that this title apparently runs on mobile devices. That’s right, the PUBG experience made portable!

Just how similar is it to PUBG? Well, give the footage below a watch to find out. For me, it’s completing ripping off PUBG, no doubt about it.

PUBG mobile game from China from PUBATTLEGROUNDS

If this is truly running on a mobile device, and there are 48 players wandering the world, I’ll tip my hat to the developer for bringing such a smooth experience to mobile. It looks damn incredible! But, of course, it’s in no way original.

What do you think of it? Would you give it a play if it ever came to western audiences?

In other PUBG news, over 322,000 cheaters have been banned and new concurrent player count has been achieved, the game was bombarded with negative reviews following in-game ads, and Bluehole is apparently “in talks” with Sony regarding a PS4 version

Destiny 2 Prestige Raid Is Now Live, Race to First Place Is On!

The Destiny 2 Prestige Raid has begun! This is a challenge for only the strongest of Guardians, who can work together as a team of six to overcome the new challenges.

Here’s what we know about the Destiny 2 Prestige Raid:

Combat against other Guardians not your thing? The ultimate PVE challenge also arrives in your Director on Tuesday at 10AM Pacific. The morning after the weekly reset begins a new invitation from Calus to join him for the Prestige Raid.

We do not expect everyone to be successful in completing this activity. Mechanical changes to the encounters are minimal, but they are there. The Prestige Raid is about mastering a more punishing sandbox. Our goal is not to provide a boon to your character progression, but there are unique rewards to help you shine. Consider this your invitation to prove to the world that you are among the very best of the Raiders who overlook the City.

Other than that, we know nothing. Players will have to enter the Raid, discover new obstacles, and work to overcome them.

Bungie will be watching:

Will you be attempting the Destiny 2 Prestige Raid?

Overwatch Update Is Now Live, Patch Notes Detail Lucio & Mercy Changes

A new Overwatch update has been rolled out to PS4, Xbox One and PC. Its main targets are Lucio, Mercy, and pesky bugs!

Here’s the full list of changes, along with some developer comments to help you understand the thinking behind the alterations:

GENERAL UPDATES

Social

  • Players can now set their social status to Online, Away, Busy, or Appear Offline (Note: appearing offline does not prevent friends from seeing you if you are placed into the same match). This option can be found under the social menu

HERO UPDATES

Lúcio

  • Wall Ride
    • The speed boost that Lúcio receives after completing a wall ride has been increased by 65%

Developer Comments: A recent bug fix slowed Lúcio’s Wall Ride. This change compensates for the reduced speed.

Mercy

  • Guardian Angel
    • Players can now glide past a targeted ally using the jump key
    • Cooldown no longer resets when Resurrect is activated
  • Valkyrie
    • No longer resets or reduces Resurrection’s cooldown

Developer Comment: Valkyrie no longer resets or reduces Resurrect’s cooldown. Instead, it now provides an extra ‘charge,’ allowing you to revive an ally even if it is still on cooldown. If the bonus charge hasn’t been spent when Valkyrie ends, it will be removed.

This method makes Resurrect more flexible when used with Valkyrie. For example, in the past if you wanted to resurrect two teammates, you had to revive the first target, then activate Valkyrie (causing the Resurrect’s cooldown to reset), and then revive the other target. With this change, you can now activate Valkyrie and fly in quickly to resurrect both targets instantly.

However, this still reduces the overall number of Resurrects that Mercy can provide, since Valkyrie no longer reduces its cooldown.

Zenyatta

  • Added a number of additional voicelines for Cultist Zenyatta

BUG FIXES

Heroes

  • Fixed a bug preventing Mercy’s momentum from slowing down correctly when Guardian Angel was canceled
  • Fixed a bug preventing the visual effects on Sombra’s Pumpkinette victory pose from displaying correctly

Halo Xbox One X Support Confirmed, Master Chief Collection Patch in the Works

During today’s Halo Livestream, it was confirmed that Halo: The Master Chief Collection would be getting Xbox One X enhancements, as well as addition support. This isn’t going to be a case of just outputting the game at upscaled 4K and calling it a day; the developers are “going back under the hood” to add new fixes, improvements and upgrades to the core game.

Fans of classic Halo games also have a lot to look forward to with today’s announcement that Halo: TheMaster Chief Collection will receive enhancements for Xbox One X, as well as fixes, improvements and upgrades to the core game to help bring it forward and modernize many of the game’s systems to take advantage of Xbox platform advancements since its original launch.

While we’re incredibly excited by this opportunity to go back under the hood with MCC, it’s not going to be easy nor is it going to happen overnight. To help facilitate this process we’re planning to roll out a public “flighting” program for MCC to allow for iterative patches and updates while testing in the wild at large scale. Right now, we’re targeting kicking this off next spring and when the time comes we’ll need the support of our community to help test and provide feedback at large scale as we work to update and improve MCC. We’ll share additional details and timing as plans are locked.

Sounds awesome to me!

In other Xbox One X news, Call of Duty: WWII will reportedly boast 4K and HDR support when running on the new console, Aaron Greenberg discussed supersampling and production, and check out this weird Xbox One X Doritos promotion

Epic Games has been very supportive of Fortnite, rolling out one patch after the other. For those thinking of cheating in Battle Royale, don’t. Or you’ll be in for a new kind of punishment from Epic. World of Tanks Australia Server Incoming, “Full-Time Server” Planned for 2018

Wargaming has announced that it will launch World of Tanks Australia and New Zealand servers this November 1! While the servers will only be available between 6 p.m. to 12 p.m. Australia time (AEDT), Wargaming is looking to deploy a full-time local server for Australia and New Zealaned sometime in 2018.

Here’s what Wargaming Australia and New Zealand chief Travis Plane has to say:

A local server is the number one request from our community and we are finally rolling them out on November 1, from 6pm – 12am AEDT. It’s a long time coming but we hope that our players and the community can see that we’re truly committed to investing in Australia and New Zealand.

As our player numbers grow and the matchmaking continues to improve, we plan to widen these hours and are aiming for a full-time local server in 2018.

World of Tanks Australian and New Zealand players should expect faster pings, and better connections overall once the local servers are launched.

For those not familiar with the game, World of Tanks is a free-to-play game that has players battling each other using tanks in 15v15 matches. Console players were treated with a new (and free!) campaign that can be played by single or two players called “War Stories.”

Hand of the Gods Console Beta Now Live

Have you been looking for a completely new turn-based card collecting experience on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One ? If so, look no further as Hi-Rez Studios has something just for you.

Announced via press release, Hi-Rez is proud to announce Hand of the Gods; their unique turn-based card game is now entering closed beta for both the PS4 and Xbox One. While the game is technically under a closed beta state, all you really need to be able to participate in it is have either a PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live Gold membership.

To celebrate the closed beta release, the Georgia based studio is also offering a promotional bundle to PlayStation Plus and Xbox Live Gold members for free. That will entitle you to the following pieces of content upon redeeming:

  • Unique leader skin
  • Exclusive card back
  • Exclusive player icon
  • Five core packs to give you a jump start on deck building

Those who are just hearing about Hand of the Gods and wondering what it is exactly before you delve deep into it. It can simply be described as a free-to-play turn-based, one-vs-one strategy game set in the same mythological universe as the hit MOBA, Smite. Players build decks of cards that spawn units onto a fully 3D battlefield, rendered with Unreal Engine 4. With the added twist of each pantheon having its own unique leader ability and pantheon specific cards that can be combined with neutral cards to support a variety of play styles.

For a closer look at the game, feel free to view the trailer provided above that gives us a glimpse of what you can expect from the game.

Additionally, speaking with our contact over at Hi-Rez Studios you can expect the console version of Hand of the Gods to be about one patch behind its PC counterpart. As well as those who were lucky enough to be accepted into the closed alpha for the console version of the game won’t have to start anew, due to both progression and unlocks carrying over to the closed beta.

Hand of the Gods is currently in open beta on the PC and closed beta for consoles.

NBA 2K18 Season Simulation Reveals Who the Game Thinks Will Win It All This Year

For NBA fans (like me!), today is a big day as the NBA season officially kicks off! While the season is just starting, 2K Games’ NBA 2K18 has the season “recap” with its NBA 2K18 season simulation.

Obviously, everything here is conjecture and guesswork, but it’s for fun, mixed in with a bit of basketball analytics.

OKC’s Big Three Not Big Enough

Westbrook, Melo, and PG13 continued to put up great numbers, but ultimately it wasn’t enough to propel the Oklahoma City Thunder into the top of the Western Conference. Even with Westbrook winning MVP again (26.3 points, 10.7 rebounds, 8.8 assists), OKC’s lack of depth was unable to support the ball-dominant leaders.

The team finished with a 52-30 record and was later eliminated in the Conference Semis.

Houston, We Don’t Have a Problem

Chris Paul used his ability to distribute – 11.3 assists per game with 12.5 points and 3.7 rebounds – to lead the Houston Rockets to a 58-24 record.
Not only did the team place second in the Western Conference, but Ryan Anderson was also awarded the Most Improved Player Award. The duo led the Rockets in eliminating OKC, but the team later lost to Golden State in the Conference Finals.

Lotto Winners

The NBA recently voted on reforming the draft lottery starting in 2019. This is the last season teams can race for the best odds at getting a top draft pick. Teams like the Knicks and Bulls are in need of young talent during their rebuilding. So which teams took the crown of Winner of the Losers?

Surprisingly, the Miami Heat (22-60) and Indiana Pacers (27-55) were the “winners” here, with the Orlando Magic and Sacramento Kings (both 30-52) rounding out the bottom four.

All four teams certainly benefit from top picks, and the Kings get to bring in another top talent to play alongside last year’s 5th overall pick De’Aaron Fox.

The Rookie of the Year Goes to…

All eyes will be on Fox and Los Angeles Lakers rookie sensation Lonzo Ball as they clash four times this season. In our sim, Ball won the battle between the two every time they met head-to-head. Ball’s averages in games against Fox were near identical to his season stats: 14.3 points, 3.8 rebounds, 8.0 assists.

However, the Rookie of the Year award went to the Philadelphia 76ers’ Ben Simmons. After missing the 2016-2017 season, he averaged 16.2 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 7.4 assists.

Having been with an NBA team for a year may have prepared him for the grind of the season and helped him develop quickly.
And speaking of the 76ers:

The Process Was Worth the Wait

Joel Embiid came back healthy and stronger than ever. In 27 minutes per game, he was able to produce 17.9 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 2.5 blocks.

Markelle Fultz also came out with a strong rookie season stat line of 14.4/4.7/5.4. The 76ers finished with a 45-37 record, their best since the 2002-2003 season.

Though the team wasn’t strong enough to get past the first round of the playoffs, the simulation shows there’s a bright future for the team.

Leaders of the East

One of the biggest questions coming into the 2017-18 season is “which team will take the East?” Our sim showed the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers had a close race for the top seed all season – Cleveland finished first with 53 wins, Boston second with 47. Ultimately the trade for Kyrie Irving and signing of Gordon Hayward paid off for the Celtics.

Statistically a better shooting team than the Cavs – 56% to 47% on field goals, 39% to 33% on threes, 82% to 74% on free-throws – and leading in every category except rebounds and blocks, the Celtics won the Eastern Conference Finals in seven games.

Durant Dethrones LeBron as King

It’s been an on-going discussion as to who is better between the two superstar forwards. This season may finally be when Kevin Durant takes over the league.
Durant put up better season stats than LeBron in points, rebounds, steals and blocks. Oh, and he won Finals MVP again.
And with that, you may have guessed it…

This is Still the Dubs’ Nation

Even with all the major moves in the NBA offseason, the Warriors won the NBA Championship. After another five-game series against the Boston Celtics in the finals, Golden State remained the top team in our simulation.

The Celtics won game four by two points behind a Kyrie Irving triple-double. But with an overwhelmingly talented core of players, the Dubs won every other game in the series by an average of 12 points.

Steve Kerr also won Coach of the Year.
Go ahead and run your own MyLEAGUE sims in NBA 2K18 and try it for yourselves. Are you getting similar results? Tell us what your sims turn up!
What do you think? Will this be an accurate portrayal of the season? Don’t forget to check out the game’s latest patch, as well as the new “verified players” setting in the game.

Sony’s New Label Is Publishing a Game for the Nintendo Switch

OK, this is one outrageous but welcome story. Sony, makers of the PlayStation 4, and direct rival of Microsoft and Nintendo, is publishing a game on the Nintendo Switch! How is this possible? Sony is starting a new publishing label which falls under the Sony Music Entertainment called “Unties,” and will focus on smaller games for multiple platforms for the Nintendo Switch and PC.

The first game under the Unties label will be Tiny Metal, and is set for release this November 21. Check out the trailer for it below.

Other games in the pipeline are Last Standard, Merkava Avalance and Deemo Reborn. The first two games are set for a PC release aside from other platforms, while Deemo Reborn will hit the PS4 alongside PSVR support. There are no firm release dates for the titles mentioned, though expect for it to generate some hype given they are games being published by Sony for competing platforms.

In other Nintendo Switch news, a recent report mentions that Nintendo is focusing on bringing more adult-themed games on the console.

Battlefield 1 Turning Tides Gameplay Surfaces

Can’t wait until the month of December to get your hands on the upcoming Turning Tides DLC for Battlefield 1? If the answer is yes, then the latest rounds of Battlefield 1 videos circulating around the internet should help quell that issue.

Both the Battlefield 1 community and personalities alike have gotten the very first taste of what the Turning Tides expansion has to offer. You can check out the very first gameplay videos of said expansion in the video provided above by JackFrags, who will take you on a short tour of Cape Helles and Achi Baba, two of the maps that will make their way this December.

Though it should be worth mentioning that this first taste of the Turning Tides expansion seems to be based on an alpha build. So things like texture, lighting and other graphical polishes aren’t included in the videos circulating around the net.

Don’t forget to check out our previous story on Turning Tides to see the official map names, how many new weapons will make it into the expansion and more.

Activision Has a Patent That Can Encourage Gamers to Buy DLC Based on Matchmaking (Update #3)

Update #3:

Fixed the headline to reflect that Activision has not and is not currently using the matchmaking algorithm to influence people to buy DLC as per the official statement.

Update #2:

An Activision spokesperson has responded to us and has given a statement below.

This was an exploratory patent filed in 2015 by an R&D team working independently from our game studios.  It has not been implemented in-game.

There you go, then. This is good news, right?

Update:

Bungie’s Community Manager DeeJ has gone on record on Twitter to say that this functionality doesn’t appear in Destiny 2, which is good to hear.

Original Story:

Have you ever played a game of Call of Duty online and noticed you were going up against people with weapons that can only be obtained via Suppl Drops? If so, it’s not you, but the game is designed to act that way. It seems Activision is using a matchmaking system to influence gamers to cough up dough for microtransactions!

The patent, which was filed at the USPTO (US Patent and Trademark Office) in 2015 was only approved on October 17. Unearthed by Rolling Stone, some of the tricks the matchmaking does is by having lower-skilled players matched up against higher-skilled ones to encourage the lower skilled players to spend money to get better in-game items so they can match up better against higher skilled players.

For example, in one implementation, the system may include a microtransaction engine that arranges matches to influence game-related purchases. For instance, the microtransaction engine may match a more expert/marquee player with a junior player to encourage the junior player to make game-related purchases of items possessed/used by the marquee player. A junior player may wish to emulate the marquee player by obtaining weapons or other items used by the marquee player.

Additionally, Activision influences gamers to buy microtransactions by checking their player profile. One example given is how a player who has expressed interest in sniping might be matched up against high-skilled snipers in the game to encourage them to buy an in-game sniper rifle, or other items used by the same player.

In a particular example, the junior player may wish to become an expert sniper in a game (e.g., as determined from the player profile). The microtransaction engine may match the junior player with a player that is a highly skilled sniper in the game. In this manner, the junior player may be encouraged to make game-related purchases such as a rifle or other item used by the marquee player.

The patent also reveals that Activsion may match players to those who own a DLC item with those who don’t have it in order to encourage players who don’t own the item to purchase them. That’s not all, Activision’s patent can also make players who bought a DLC item to feel good about their purchase by putting them into matches that highlights the power of the DLC item, which might lead the player to buy more in-game stuff due feeling the purchase was worth it.

Microtransaction engine 128 may analyze various items used by marquee players and, if at least one of the items is currently being offered for sale (with or without a promotion), match the marquee player with another player (e.g., a junior player) that does not use or own the item. Similarly, microtransaction engine 128 may identify items offered for sale, identify marquee players that use or possess those items, and match the marquee players with other players who do not use or possess those items. In this manner, microtransaction engine 128 may leverage the matchmaking abilities described herein to influence purchase decisions for game-related purchases.

In an implementation, when a player makes a game-related purchase, microtransaction engine 128 may encourage future purchases by matching the player (e.g., using matchmaking described herein) in a gameplay session that will utilize the game-related purchase. Doing so may enhance a level of enjoyment by the player for the game-related purchase, which may encourage future purchases. For example, if the player purchased a particular weapon, microtransaction engine 128 may match the player in a gameplay session in which the particular weapon is highly effective, giving the player an impression that the particular weapon was a good purchase. This may encourage the player to make future purchases to achieve similar gameplay results.

The patent mentions that the examples used are for first-person shooters, but the matchmaking system can be used across different games. Rolling Stone has reached out to Activision to check which games are using this system currently, but based on the info we have so far, it might not be a stretch to say that Call of Duty is the #1 culprit when it comes to the matchmaking “tricks.”

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 was the first game in the franchise to house microtransactions, but starting in 2014 with Advanced Warfare, Activision introduced the Supply Drop system which gives random content (including Supply Drop-exclusive weapons) in exchange for in-game currency that can also be bought by real-world money.

We’ve also reached out to Activision and will update the post if and when we get a response.

Gearbox Is Looking for a Writer for Borderlands 3

While unconfirmed officially, it won’t come as a shock that Gearbox is reportedly working on Borderlands 3. Given the lukewarm reception to both Battleborn and Aliens: Colonial Marines, the studio really does need a proper hit in their hands, and what more could be a surer thing than Borderlands?

A new job posting by the studio today once again hints at the studio is indeed working on Borderlands 3! Gearbox is looking for a writer for an “unannounced AAA FPS/RPG hybrid” and even mentions that the applicant must have “a love of comedy writing.” Yep, sounds like Borderlands 3 alright.

The full job listing is below in case you’re interested in applying.

Gearbox is looking for someone to join the writing team for an unannounced AAA FPS/RPG hybrid with strong characters and central narrative thread.

The successful candidate will join the writing team to write, punch up and iterate scripts in-line with established story and plot outlines. Responsibilities will include writing dialogue for voice-over and in-game text for missions, flavor and user interfaces. A love for comedy writing with respect for a serious underlying plot is helpful. The ability to work with a team and to accept notes, criticism and the iterative process is a must.

Required Skills:

-Strong ability to collaborate with other creative people from all disciplines (art, design and engineering).
-Demonstrable skill in writing entertaining and engaging dialogue with meaningful character interactions.
-Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
-Ability to prioritize and execute multiple threads of writing tasks under a reasonable deadline commitment with professional organizational and team work skills.
-Strong passion and demonstrable ability for comedic or satiric writing.
-Published work in video games, comic books, web-based material, TV, or film.
-Desire and ability to work with an experienced team of creative professionals.
-Must be local or willing to relocate to the North Dallas area (relocation assistance available for successful candidate).

Again, all signs point to Borderlands 3, which isn’t surprising. No official announcement from Gearbox or 2K Games yet, but don’t be surprised if you hear it at next year’s E3.

Visceral Games Closing Down, Star Wars Project to Be Taken Over by EA Vancoucer

Well, here’s a little sour note to darken your day. EA has announced that Dead Space and Battlefield Hardline studio Visceral Games is closing down; what’s more, the Star Wars project it’s been developing, will be handled by EA Vancouver.

Also, just in case you were wondering, the Star Wars game being made by Visceral will not ship in 2019, with the final release window set to be announced at a later date.

Here’s the complete letter by Patrick Soderlund, CEO of EA:

Our industry is evolving faster and more dramatically than ever before. The games we want to play and spend time with, the experiences we want to have in those games, and the way we play…all those things are continually changing. So is the way games are made. In this fast-moving space, we are always focused on creating experiences that our players want to play…and today, that means we’re making a significant change with one of our upcoming titles.

Our Visceral studio has been developing an action-adventure title set in the Star Wars universe. In its current form, it was shaping up to be a story-based, linear adventure game. Throughout the development process, we have been testing the game concept with players, listening to the feedback about what and how they want to play, and closely tracking fundamental shifts in the marketplace. It has become clear that to deliver an experience that players will want to come back to and enjoy for a long time to come, we needed to pivot the design. We will maintain the stunning visuals, authenticity in the Star Wars universe, and focus on bringing a Star Wars story to life. Importantly, we are shifting the game to be a broader experience that allows for more variety and player agency, leaning into the capabilities of our Frostbite engine and reimagining central elements of the game to give players a Star Wars adventure of greater depth and breadth to explore.

This move leads to a few other changes:

A development team from across EA Worldwide Studios will take over development of this game, led by a team from EA Vancouver that has already been working on the project. Our Visceral studio will be ramping down and closing, and we’re in the midst of shifting as many of the team as possible to other projects and teams at EA.

Lastly, while we had originally expected this game to launch late in our fiscal year 2019, we’re now looking at a new timeframe that we will announce in the future.

Bringing new Star Wars games to life for every passionate fan out there is what drives us as creators. It’s what has inspired us to deliver the massive new Star Wars Battlefront II experience launching in just a few weeks.  It fuels our live service in Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes.  Making games in the extraordinary Star Wars universe is truly a dream for so many of us at EA, and we have so many more experiences to come for players on every platform.  We want to take the time to get each game right, to make it unique, to make it amazing.

We look forward to answering more of your questions, and sharing more on our plans and timeline for this new Star Wars experience, in the months to come.

It remains to be seen what will happen to former Naughty Dog (and catalyst in developing the Uncharted franchise) Amy Hennig. Once we know more about her situation, we’ll let you know.

Let’s hope that everyone from Visceral lands on their feet. We’ll keep you posted for more developments as they come.

This “Wayback” Video Celebrates PlayStation VR’s One Year Anniversary

Pixel Enemy content producer Tesseract Unfolded helps celebrate the first anniversary of Sony’s PlayStation VR headset with a look at one of the better launch titles, EVE: Valkyrie

Give the “play” button a click and have a watch!

The past year has blown by, and we’ve already seen some great titles land on Sony’s virtual reality device. My personal highlight is Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, which I managed to complete entirely in VR. It’s pretty damn terrifying, especially if you combine the headset with headphones. Total immersion and total fear!

If you like Tesseract Unfolded, get subscribed to his YouTube channel! And, if you’ve got your own PlayStation VR headset, be sure to let us know if you’re liking the new tech. Is it a worthwhile purchase? Or are you still waiting for that killer app?
