Battlefield 4 Night Operations Update Coming September

Battlefield 4 Night Operations is coming to all platforms in September, developer DICE announced today. The update will introduce a new night version of the popular Battlefield 4 map, Zavod 311, now appropriately titled Zavod: Graveyard Shift.

According to DICE, the new update will also bring “several improvements and tweaks to allow for more stealthy and tactical gameplay.”

“We touched things like passive/active spotting to make it easier to flank your opponent,” the studio wrote in a recent blog entry. “We’ve improved the sound system so you can pinpoint where those footsteps come from. Additionally, we’ve also given the gadgets and tools of the night an improvement pass to make them shine in the dark (but less so during the day).”

The Gunmaster game mode is also getting a special weapon preset tailored to fighting in the dark. It will be available on an alternative, darker layout of the map. All standard Battlefield 4 game modes will also be playable on the new map.

Lastly, DICE says the new update will also introduce a “public server team balancer, some weapons tweaks, and additional netcode improvements.” More details on Battlefield 4 Night Operations are coming, but you can check out some footage from a recent playtest above for now.

A beta version of Rainbow Six Siege’s Spectator Cam will launch with the game for PC players on October 13, but the studio expects a polished launch on all platforms in early 2016. You can watch a current build of it in action in the footage above.

Check Out New Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 Moon Base Z Footage, Pre-Order Bonus Nets You The Z-7 Mech

PvZ fans that missed EA’s Gamescom 2015 presentation in the wee hours of this morning are in for some news on PopCap HD’s quirky shooter sequel, Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2. New gameplay footage, which you can watch above, showcases one of the new maps, Moon Base Z, that will be featured in the game.

In addition, the studio also revealed that Garden Warfare 2 will include a handful of major improvements over the original title such as a player hub called “Backyard Battleground,” which will allow players to accept quests from either Crazy Dave or Dr.Zomboss, allowing them to customize characters and loadouts.

For those who love to party up with other people, the biggest feature of Backyard Battleground is the fact that you can invite three of your friends into your player hub to either party up for co-op or other multiplayer modes.

Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 is set to release sometime in Spring 2016 for the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One platforms. As an added bonus for those who pre-order Garden Warfare 2, you’ll receive a Mass Effect inspired mech the “Grass Effect Z-7 Mech” for the Imp and Z-mech class.

Treyarch Presents New Black Ops 3 Competitive Features, PlayStation The ‘New Home of Call of Duty eSports’

At Gamescom 2015, Call of Duty developer Treyarch took the opportunity to present the highest level of competitive Black Ops 3 multiplayer while showcasing some of the brand new eSports features and improvements the studio is implementing in this year’s shooter.

To help Treyarch out, professional Call of Duty players TeePee, Flexz, Merk, Tommey, Kivi, Gotaga, Censor, Buzzo fought in a series of public exhibition matches across a variety of maps and game modes, including Hardpoint, Search & Destroy, and Uplink. But before matches kicked off, Treyarch Game Design Director David Vonderhaar explained a few of the new systems being introduced to Black Ops 3’s competitive Arena mode (which replaces Black Ops 2’s League Play) that the studio hopes will push the game’s eSports agenda even further.

First, he expressed the studio’s wish to create a competitive experience that closely mirrors public matches and one that will inspire everyone to participate.

By introducing the Bans and Protects system, instead of the studio or other organizations deciding what game content is banned from competitive play, players will now have the ability to select content they want to ban and protect before any Arena match. For the purposes of this presentation, all content was customizable, meaning players could elect to ban or protect anything.

Black Ops 3’s Specialist system is made up of selectable abilities or weapons that sit somewhere in between Create-a-Class Loadouts and Scorestreaks in terms of power. In Arena matches, the Specialist Draft feature ensure players will only be able to select one Specialist Weapon or Ability per team per game in order to avoid duplicate set-ups.

Player Ranking is based on number of wins. There are 20 ranks in total with a Masters Division beyond that. At every five ranks, more wins will be required in order to progress. Players will need to lose two games to be demoted, but no one can be demoted below their Skill Tier, which will help cut down on rank boosting.

CoDCaster has been improved and revamped in favor of ease-of-use and simplicity in an effort to make the viewing experience as enjoyable as the playing experience. A Quick Settings menu can be access at the press of a button where casters can easily edit settings they pre-determined and saved earlier. On screen, the Player Loadout Widget will allow casters to view details on each player and their loadout. The Team Identity feature will also let casters change team logos and colors easily, a feature that is traditionally restricted to production teams at eSports events.

The in-game Black Ops 3 Live Event Viewer will bring the highest level of play in view of everyone at the press of a button, so anyone can view any eSports event directly from their own console. Vonderhaar says it’s just the beginning of the studio’s huge plan to grow Call of Duty eSports.

To close off the presentation, Treyarch dubbed PlayStation as the new ‘home for Call of Duty eSports,’ suggesting that all competitive play from this point on will move from Xbox to PlayStation. No announcement was made regarding a Call of Duty Championship 2016, but the studio says more information on Leagues and other eSports news is to come.

We’ll leave you with a replay of all three matches from the live stream event.

Called Robbery, EA states that the “theme of this pack is the Big Score: how to steal it, or how to stop it. The new maps and game mode in Battlefield Hardline: Robbery are designed to let criminal teams plan and execute the perfect heist; or, for law enforcement, to get the crooks in cuffs before they can pull it off.”

BFH

Here’s what’s included in the DLC:

  • New 5v5 game mode: Squad Heist

  • Criminals take a Drill, break into Vault 2, and grab the Loot from the vault.
  • Criminals run to an escape location, call a helicopter, and get the loot to safety.

At each stage, criminals get 25 deploy tickets. Cops win if all those tickets are lost.

New Halo 5: Guardians eSports Features Highlighted In “Coliseum” Multiplayer Map Reveal

Developer 343 Industries is bringing Halo eSports to the forefront this year with the release of Halo 5: Guardians and its competitive arena multiplayer.

During Microsoft’s press conference at Gamescom 2015, 343i arrived on stage to highlight a suite of new camera and spectating tools, including player outlines and replays, during the first-ever reveal of “Coliseum,” a brand new arena multiplayer map coming to Halo 5: Guardians. The studio enlisted the help of pro Halo teams Epsilon eSports and OpTic Gaming to show off these new features and the new map in a preliminary match in anticipation of the upcoming Gamescom Invitational.

According to an official blurb from Xbox, “Coliseum has everything that makes a great competitive arena experience: It’s a symmetrical, two-base map that includes a unique mix of elevation and sight lines, and it’s purposely built for a wide variety of fast-paced multiplayer modes.”

“The map’s story harkens back to the first incursions of the Flood into the Forerunners’ outer territories signaled the beginning of a centuries-long war. Although they immediately summoned the full strength of their navy, most Warrior-Servants recognized that this conflict would be won or lost on the ground. Hidden safely in the shadows of the Burn, this military compound provided a necessary proving ground, strategically honing those who were destined for sacrificial glory.”

You can see for yourself how the CTF match went down and check out the new map in action in the footage below:

Metal Gear Online Delayed To October On Consoles, January 2016 On PC

While it’s some good news that the PC edition of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain will be launching the same day as its console counterparts, Konami has also revealed that all platforms will be seeing a delay for the multiplayer component of the game.

Confirmed via Twitter, Metal Gear Online will be seeing a release date of October 6th on consoles, which is about a month delay after the game launches on September 1st on all platforms, including PC. However, those who plan on buying it on PC, you’ll be disappointed to learn that the online mode will not be launching the same day, instead Konami will be launching it some time in January of next year, nearly four months after the initial launch.

No details were given as to why the online mode was delayed, though we aren’t entirely surprised, given the lack of details we have gotten about it. What we do know is that Konami does plan on debuting more gameplay of MGS5 this Wednesday during their Gamescom stream.

Bungie Explores The Taken King’s Dreadnaught, New Explorable Area In Upcoming Destiny DLC

In Bungie’s latest Weekly Update, the studio’s art and design team shed some light on the dark and mysterious Hive Dreadnaught, a new explorable area within the game’s upcoming major expansion, The Taken King.

While “uninviting” is the vibe Bungie’s artists were going for when crafting the new location, the studio says there’ll be plenty of reasons to keep on visiting; new missions, more treasures, tons of secrets, and challenging new Public Events, to name a few.

“We’ve created a suite of new mechanics and woven them into the Patrol mode,” Designer Ben Wommack explained. “Every week, every day even, it will draw you back to fight through to its depths for loot and glory. Expect to find new Bounties, Patrol Missions, and Public Events both large and small—some of which you can even instigate yourself, if you can discover how.”

In an earlier update, Bungie offered a glimpse of changes the studio plans to make to questing in Destiny once Update 2.0 drops some time before the launch of The Taken King.

“The Dreadnaught has its secrets—you’ll need to return again and again to solve them all and acquire the rewards we created for doing so,” Wommack continued. “There are hidden treasures and bosses waiting to be found, and it won’t be apparent how to access them the first time you go exploring. We’ve laid out a lot of breadcrumb trails though, as you fight your way through the ship. So follow the clues you’re given, face the challenges you can find, and earn that sweet loot!

“Within Oryx’s behemoth ship, you’ll likely find more challenging Public Events than anything else you’ve attempted before on Patrol. How to succeed won’t be obvious at first, but the rewards will be worth your effort. Get ready to fight bosses and encounters in surprising combinations of circumstances, and look to your fellow Guardians for help. Patrol is no longer easy mode—we should really get a Twitch stream going before launch to show what I mean.”

Check out this mix of concept art and in-game images of the Dreadnaught and one of its guardians:

Battlefield 4 & Battlefield Hardline Players Log Over 120 Million Hours Last Quarter, “New Battlefield Experience” Still Coming Holiday 2016

“Players in Battlefield 4 and Battlefield Hardline logged more than 170 million online gameplay hours combined in Q1.”

That’s according to a press release from EA’s latest earnings report, which covers sales figures and statistics from the beginning of April 2015 up until the end of June 2015. Expansion packs for both games are still in the pipeline, the company added during its earnings call earlier today, which presumably includes more map packs for Battlefield Hardline, as well as new content from the Community Map Project and Classic Map Project for Battlefield 4.

During the call, the company also re-stated their intent to bring shooter fans a “new Battlefield experience” in Q3 of fiscal year 2017, which translates to some time between October and December of calendar year 2016. Earlier, EA CFO Blake Jorgensen said the title would be a “return to a Battlefield military-style game,” in contrast to Visceral Games’ cops and criminals-themed spin-off. He added that there’ll be “more to come on that.”

Where have you been logging your Battlefield hours recently? Battlefield Hardline or Battlefield 4?
