Battlefield 3: Close Quarters Xbox 360 Achievements Hint At New Game Mode

A list of Battlefield 3: Close Quarters Xbox 360 achievements have been outed hinting at a new Battlefield 3 game mode called “Gun Master.” Close Quarters is just around the corner and is said to release along side Battlefield Premium June 4th.

PS3 Trophies have yet been revealed but it’s safe to assume that the titles and descriptions would match the 360 achievements. Check out the list below courtesy of X360A.org.

Dominator: Win a round in Conquest Domination – 20G

Deadly Tools: Without dying, get a kill with a Carbine, Pistol and Rocket Launcher – 30G

Show of Force: Get 10 kills with all ten CQ weapons – 30G

Man of Calibre: Complete a round of Gun Master – 20G

Secret Achievement – 20G

The second to last one, Man of Calibre, is particularly interesting as it suggests, perhaps, a new of game mode on top of the previously announced Conquest Domination.

DICE will be performing maintenance on the Battlelog June 4th, most likely in preparation for Close Quarters.

What do you think “Gun Master” could be? Let’s hear your thoughts in the comments below!

Modern Warfare 3 – Shipment and Rust Remakes a Possibility

According to the official Infinity Ward Facebook account, remakes of classic Modern Warfare Shipment and Rust are, indeed, a possibility for future DLC.

Only a few moments ago, Infinity Ward made this statement via their official Facebook account.

We just put in some requests to our MP design team which could lead to some of your most desired updates to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3!

Here is what we suggested:

Community Playlist Updates:

Desert eagles in One in the chamber and All or nothing

Change infected weapons

AoN & OIC separated from gun game

Add community playlist leaderboards (aon, infected, dropzone)

Weapons Complaints:

Guns like the M16, Model 1887, PM9, and the MP5 need more love.

Riot Shield:

Does not have master and veteran challenges to carry over prestiges

The hit deflection for the shield, especially on the back.

Other:

Final Stand give the player putting the player in final stand the full kill? (if a teammate finished the second chance player off).

Remake shipment/rust for Face Off

'Rust' from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

Would you fancy a Shipment and/or Rust remake for Modern Warfare 3? What other classic Modern Warfare maps do you think would suit the new Face Off game mode?

EA has announced that its’ press conference on Monday, June 4th at 4:00pm EDT (1:00pm PDT/8:00pm GMT) will feature Battlefield 3 among other titles. EA promises to “feature never-before-seen video and gameplay” of the publisher’s biggest titles. At the EA booth, both Battlefield 3: Close Quarters and Armored Kill will be playable for attendees. EA also narrowed down the release window of Armored Kill, which will include the biggest map in Battlefield history. Originally announced with a prospective Fall 2012 release date, now EA has revealed that Battlefield 3’s third expansion pack will be released in September 2012, which a recent retailer leak suggested.

Black Ops II Gets X-Ray Sniper Rifle Technology, More On The Weapons of BOII

As we inch towards a more substantial reveal of Black Ops II’s multiplayer sometime in the near future, we gather what we can in terms of the interesting weapons that you’ll be using, including some of the tech to go along with it. If you haven’t yet, make sure to check out our latest trailer analysis to get an initial weapon list of Black Ops II.

A brand new piece of tech being introduced to the series is the so-called “X-Ray ACOG,” an optic that will essentially allow players to see through walls. In the case of the campaign demonstration that has recently been shown off in various press conferences, you’ll see that David Mason, one of the lead protagonists of Black Ops II, is using a sniper rifle that can not only see through walls, but shoot through walls as well.

Mark Lamia explains to Aus Gamers how the team at Treyarch justifies such weaponry in a Call of Duty title. The question Treyarch had to ask themselves was “is that realistic or is that not realistic?” Lamia breaks it down: “…every 18-24 months, there’s this thing called Moore’s Law, where processing power is going to double. Right?” He adds, “go back to the millimeter wave technology; processing power continues.” For those who don’t know, millimieter wave technology is what is used in TSA scanners stationed in many airports to, for a lack of a better explanation, see through passengers’ clothing. “We also know that as time advances, form factors get smaller. We know that from our own personal consumer electronics devices — they’re all smaller, things get more efficient.” He continues, “now you have an optic, that would be a pretty impressive optic to have as opposed to being on a vehicle — mounted on a vehicle moving through a city — it’s actually on a weapon. Now what do you do? You can see through it, now you want to be able to — from a gameplay point of view — you want to be able to do something about that. How do you justify that?” This is where electromagnetically charged bullets come into play.

Lamia elaborates, “well I don’t know if you’ve seen a thing called (and this is not a technology that we’re using, but it exists today), there’s something called Metal Storm technology that we saw that inspired us. I don’t know if you’ve seen this, but it’s an electronic charge as opposed to a gunpowder charge. It fires a million rounds every 60 seconds. That’s today! Now it’s in big form-factor, again we’re talking thirteen years out.” So, how do you balance this from a multiplayer perspective? “Well, it’s a charge-shot mechanic you have to hold down. The longer you charge up, the more you can penetrate. If you don’t charge up enough, you’re not going to be able to penetrate the surface material,” explains Lamia. It has yet to be confirmed whether this sniper rifle or X-Ray ACOG will make it into the multiplayer, but it has been rumored to be an attachment earned via killstreaks.

Also spotted in the campaign demonstration were these additional weapons, all of which have appeared in a previous Call of Duty title:

  • Type-95 Assault Rifle (It appearing with the X-Ray ACOG attachment)
  • KSG Shotgun
  • VECTOR Sub-Machine Gun

Between the weapons spotted in our trailer analysis, the X-Ray Sniper Rifle, and these three new ones, which one are you most looking forward to using in Black Ops II?

Battlefield 3 – DICE Performs Maintenance June 1st To Resolve Stat and XP Loss Issue

In an attempt to resolve the issues a number of Battlefield 3 players are currently facing, DICE will be performing maintenance across all platforms on June 1st from 8 to 9 AM UTC, at which point the multiplayer will be unavailable. That’s 3 to 4 AM EST early morning on the 1st.

Yesterday, DICE addressed the issue of players’ stats and XP earned in-game not being recognized by the Battlelog or end-of-match screen. In a statement to the public, they advised players to avoid using the FAMAS assault rifle, for the time being, as its usage has been linked to the issue of lost stats and XP.

Today, DICE made this announcement via Facebook:

Battlefield 3 multiplayer will be unavailable on all platforms June 1st from 8 to 9 AM UTC for an update that addresses a recent problem that has prevented some players from recognizing experience and rank progressions (tied the use of the FAMAS by any player in a match).

Let’s hope affected players will soon receive their lost stats back and that others will no longer experience the bug.

Make sure to read up on the latest Battlefield 3 patch notes incoming June 4th!

THQ Took Homefront 2 to Crytek to Bring It ‘Up to the level of CoD and Battlefield,’ Says Former VP

In his last interview as the executive vice president of THQ core games, Danny Bilson reflects on Homefront 1, and touches on why the publisher decided to hand the reins over to Crytek.

Bilson reckoned, “Homefront had fantastic creative. Arguably, at least in my opinion, one of the best properties for a first person shooter, a fresh world, great environmental storytelling and the execution unfortunately… even though I think it has some phenomenal things in that game, we sold a lot of them and it resonated with people, there were also issues around execution.”

However, Homefront, as a new IP in the FPS genre, was constantly stacked up against Call of Duty and Battlefield.  “Not that [Homefront] wasn’t good,” Bilson told Games Industry. “But you’re being compared to Call Of Duty and Battlefield, two of the best made games in the business.”

He continued, “So what do you do if you’re us and you’ve got this IP you believe in, you know you’ve got the fanbase, you’ve got a million ideas, how do you solve the problem? You go to a beloved developer that we believe can bring our execution up to the level of Call Of Duty and Battlefield with our incredible IP.”

Bilson noted that while he monitored Homefront 2’s development, the title looked “phenomenal.” He added, “the pre-production has been spectacular, I think it’s 5X the game we delivered before when it’s fully realised. And our idea was the consumers who may have been disappointed with some of the aspect of Homefront, with Crytek applied to it, it gives them confidence in the execution with a brand that seems to have a lot of appeal.”

Homefront 2 currently has a prospective FY2014 release date, and will be set in “different part of North America” compared to where the first title took place. Homefront 2 could be a next-gen title, and will be powered by Crytek’s CryEngine 3, watch what the engine is capable of on our forums.

What would you like to see in Homefront 2? Please leave your thoughts in the comments below.

Thanks, Video Gamer

New Gears of War Title Confirmed For Xbox 360

Game Informer teases the magazine cover of their July issue revealing Epic’s next Gears of War title for the Xbox 360.

“We can confirm that our next cover is the new installment in the Gears of War series and is coming to Xbox 360,” writes Game Informer. The image of the cover below teases the silhouette of a man in hand-cuffs being brought somewhere through some sort of tunnel. Who could he be and where are these soldiers/guards taking him?

It’s unknown whether this will be a another numbered Gears of War title (GoW 4), a prequel or, perhaps, some sort of spinoff. Either way, we’ll have to wait until this monday, June 4th, to find out.

Battlefield 3 – DICE Outs Patch Notes For June 4th Multiplayer Update 3: M26 Dart Fix, Suppression Reduction, Console Color Blind Mode

DICE has just outed a full list of changes in their upcoming “multiplayer update 3” which will be making it’s way to Battlefield 3 across PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 in less than a week.

The release schedule is as follows:

  • PC and Xbox 360 worldwide: June 4th
  • PlayStation 3 in Japan/Asia: June 5th
  • PlayStation 3 in all other regions: June 4th

DICE highlights some of the more important changes via the Officlal Battlefield Blog.

  • M26 dart situation resolved
  • Somewhat reduced suppression effect
  • Adding symbol for custom server rules (console)
Server Browser Custom Rules
  • Colorblind support (console)
3D HUD and Colorblind Support on Consoles
  • Improved VTOL fighter jet (F35) performance
  • Improved VTOL fighter jet (F35) performance
    • Based on community feedback, we have improved the performance of the F35 in Back to Karkand to better match that of the SU35, particularly when it comes to turning speed.

Full multiplayer update 3 change list below:

Vehicle related changes

  • Tweaked the F35 handling to more closely resemble that of the SU35 (see above).
  • Jet & helicopter ECM Jammer should now deflect missiles more reliably when it is active.
  • Fixed an issue where vehicles wouldn’t spawn if their intended space was occupied by a deployable gadget. The vehicle will now spawn as intended and the gadget will be destroyed in the process.
  • Fixed AA missiles not doing damage to vehicles moving at very high speeds.
  • Reduced the direct damage from unguided Javelins to require better side hits for a 1 hit disable. This was previously too forgiving and easy to accomplish.
  • Removed the direct damage from aircraft launched guided missiles. Players will need to have laser designated targets for full effectiveness.
  • Adjusted the helicopter rockets to their original prepatch damage value against armored vehicles. This is a reduction; a revert of a knock on effect that was introduced accidentally.
  • Fixed the US Tank Guided Shell doing the reverse damage values when guided and unguided.
  • Adjusted the M224 mortar damage against vehicles. Some tweaks and adjustments in a previous update accidentally increased its effectiveness greater than intended.
  • Increased the range on the AA guns so they can reach vehicles hovering at the maximum height in select maps.
  • Replaced the VDV buggy on Gulf of Oman (Back to Karkand) with the DPV buggy for both teams at the City flag.
  • Fixed a bug where some vehicle unlocks were still enabled after the player left the vehicle.

Soldier and gadget related changes

  • Reduced the inaccuracy added when in suppression. There is still an enhanced suppression compared to the initial state in the game, but the effect is now less than it was in the last patch (see above).
  • Reduced input lag for gamepads/joysticks on all platforms. Aiming as a soldier when using a gamepad or joystick should now be more responsive.
  • Tweaked the deploy times on gadgets to be faster to deploy in high stress combat situations.
  • Greatly improved the responsiveness when deploying a bipod when going prone and shortly after moving.  The bipod deploy should no longer abort if the player deploys the bipod immediately after stopping.
  • Fixed bug where you couldn’t deploy the mortar anywhere on Grand Bazaar.
  • When changing the accessories of a weapon in the Customize screen, the weapon previously selected in the Deploy screen will now automatically be selected when entering the Accessories screen.
  • Increased the effectiveness of the Aim Assist at close range. Testing in Close Quarters proved our current assist to be inadequate in tight quarters. This is a global change, and will improve the effectiveness of Aim Assist for all modes and maps. Aim Assist over distance is still significantly less effective. This is console only, as Aim Assist is not present on PC. If you prefer, you can also turn it off on console.
  • Players will now spawn on the Radio Beacon looking in the same direction the Beacon is facing. The Beacon always faces in the direction the player is facing when it is planted. Previously the Beacon’s direction had no impact on the player’s spawn direction.
  • The Spawn Preview camera on the Spawn Beacon has been updated to better reflect the direction the player will be looking when he spawns.
  • 40mm smoke now stays longer again.
  • Tweaked some tracers on sniper rounds to have better visibility at range (the tracers are smaller).
  • Tweaked the flashlight so it is less blinding at the edge of the screen.
  • Fixed bug where you couldn’t pick up your deployed gadgets after being revived.

Weapons related changes

  • Fixed a bug where Heavy Barrels and Underslung Shotguns could be over powered. (This is the so called M26 dart issue, see above)
  • All semi-automatic sniper rifles now properly have shorter range when using a suppressor.
  • The L96 now properly shoots where the iron sights are aimed. The position was previously offset.
  • The SKS now has the proper damage values when using a suppressor. The damage was previously too low at close range.
  • Slightly reduced the suppression effect of SKS rounds.
  • Decreased the long range damage of the SKS to highlight its close to medium range role.
  • Slightly decreased the foregrip aimed accuracy penalty on the M4A1 to bring it in line with other guns.
  • Slightly increased the foregrip aimed accuracy penalty on the SCAR-H to bring it in line with other guns.
  • Reduced some of the vertical recoil and zoomed accuracy penalties added to the FAMAS in the previous update.
  • F2000 foregrip accuracy penalty reduced and recoil reduction bonus increased.
  • AEK971 foregrip recoil reduction bonus increased.
  • SG553 foregrip recoil reduction bonus increased.
  • FAMAS foregrip recoil reduction bonus increased.
  • Fixed the M416’s M26 with Flechettes not having a name in the kill log.
  • Fixed so all clip based LMGs have Extended Mags as an available unlock.
  • All semi-automatic shotguns now fire at 220rpm. There was previously simply a small difference between them, whereas now they have different pellet counts instead of rates of fire.
  • Improved the recoil and accuracy of the M26 to match the 870.
  • Reduced the impact suppression has on shotguns. Shotguns are still affected by Suppression but it should no longer significantly impact their accuracy from the hip as it previously did.
  • The 870’s pump speed has been increased slightly from 0.55 seconds to 0.48 seconds. The empty reload time for the 870 has also been reduced slightly.
  • Improved the accuracy of aimed shotguns when on the move.
  • The Saiga’s recoil has been reduced.
  • The M1014 now fires 10 projectiles. The other semi auto shotguns have 9 pellets, and since the M1014 has a lower mag size and a slower reload it now fires 10 pellets to give it some edge.
  • The USAS-12 now fires 7 projectiles.
  • The MK3A1 now fires 8 projectiles.
  • Fixed so the weapon’s fire mode is saved between spawns.

Miscellaneous changes

Modern Warfare 3 Patch 1.15 for PS3 Releases June 14th

It turns out Modern Warfare 3 patch 1.15 for PS3 is due mid-June, as it was originally suggested.

A few days ago, Infinity Ward published the official patch notes for two title updates for PS3 and PC that were pushed out at the time. PC players were able to download the patch on the same day, but there was no time frame given as to when PS3 users can expect the major title update.

As pointed out to us by MP1st reader Moriarty, Infinity Ward has since added a date to the patch notes indicating a June 14th release date for title update #15. You can find the patch notes through here, which include 5 new prestige levels and reduction to the explosive radius of the dreadful Dead Man’s Hand.

Also, considering that all May DLC was released on Xbox 360 Elite along with patch 1.15 on May 15th. It’s safe to assume that PS3 Elite subscribers will receive similar treatment on or around June 14th (30 days after the 360 patch). You can find what Xbox 360 premium users received with patch 1.15 here.

Battlefield 3 – DICE Identifies Possible Cause Of Stats and XP Loss Issue, Don’t Use The FAMAS

Update 2: DICE has just clarified via Twitter, “It’s any game where the FAMAS is used so if anyone including you uses it.”

Update 1: Also via Facebook, DICE has mentioned that they will be sharing information tomorrow on an upcoming Battlefield 3 patch: “Stay tuned, Battlefield fans – We’ve got details on the upcoming patch coming tomorrow.”

Original Story: DICE has identified a possible cause of the issue a number of Battlefield 3 players are currently facing.

A few days ago, reports began surfacing that stats and experience points earned in-game were not being recognized by the Battlelog or by the end-of-match screen for a number of unlucky Battlefield 3 players. DICE has addressed the issue stating that they were aware it, though progress has yet to be made until just recently.

Via a Facebook announcement, DICE has surmised that the use of the FAMAS assault rifle could be the possible source of the bug. You can read what the developers had to say below:

We are aware that some players are experiencing a problem where their in-game stats and experience are not being recognized towards their progression on Battlelog or in-game. While we are working to resolve this issue we have also identified what can cause this problem to occur.

This issue only affects games in which a player uses the FAMAS weapon. In any game where the FAMAS is used there is a chance that player stats and experience will not be recognized after the game. We are temporarily recommending that players avoid using the FAMAS and spread the word to fellow players to avoid the problems this error can cause.

This advisory and problem are temporary and we expect to have them soon. Thank you for your patience.

So, consider staying away from the FAMAS for the time being. Make sure to say tuned to MP1st for more on the matter. Remember, you can follow us on Twitter and Facebook.

SOCOM PS2 and PSP Servers Shutting Down This August

It’s a sad day for SOCOM players as Sony has officially announced that the PS2 and PSP SOCOM games will be closing their servers this August. SOCOM has been available to the public for nearly 10 years now. Beginning on August 31st, the servers will be going offline permanently.

On August 31, 2012 Sony Computer Entertainment America will be terminating the on-line service for the following PlayStation®2 and PlayStation®Portable (“PSP”) software titles: PlayStation®2 system: SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs, SOCOM II: U.S. Navy SEALs, SOCOM 3: U.S. Navy SEALs, SOCOM Combined Assault. PSP system:  SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo, SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo 2, SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo 3, SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Tactical Strike.

August 27th will mark the 10 year anniversary of the original SOCOM. It should be noted that the main studio behind the franchise, Zipper Interactive, was recently shut down.

While recently released titles have disappointed, we would love for a new SOCOM to be announced. Would you guys like to see an HD remake (SOCOM 2) or collection of the SOCOM series for the Playsattion 3?

Metro: Last Light – Multiplayer Confirmed and New Screenshots

Though details at the moment are light, 4A Studio, the masterminds behind Metro: 2033, have confirmed to IGN that Metro: Last Light will contain multiplayer.

For those who remembered the first game, then bugs aren’t something your unfamilair with. Often times, random bugs such as invisible enemies, clipping through walls, and other annoyances would occur. 4A has confirmed that all those bugs in the original game are being worked on and will hopefully not be present in the final product of Last Light. They also confirmed that they will be pushing the PC to it’s limits along with making it the best looking console game when it releases.

Here are some brand new screenshots, though they are from the single-player aspect of the game (click for larger size):

Metro: Last Light is slated to release some time in 2013 for the PC, Xbox 360, and the PlayStation 3.

Battlefield Premium Accidentally Confirmed by Sony, Allegedly Releases June 4th On PSN Along With Close Quarters

Seems like the official European PlayStation Blog may have “accidentally” released information concerning the much rumored Battlefield 3 Premium service.

According to the store preview from the blog post (now fixed), Battlefield 3 will be releasing it’s premium service on June 4th along with the first new multiplayer expansion pack, Close Quarters.

The pricing for Europe is set as following:

Battlefield 3 – Close Quarters (Monday 4th June release) (£11.99, €14.99, AU$23.95)

Battlefield 3 – Premium (Monday 4th June release) (£39.99, €49.99, AU$79.95)

The US prices convert roughly into $15 and $50 retrospectively which falls pretty closely in line with what we reported earlier.

Electronic Arts is set to have their E3 Press Conference on Monday, June 4th around 1pm Pacific Standard Time. This will most likely be the day that Battlefield Premium is announced. You can also expect an official announcement concerning a release date for Close Quarters as mentioned on the Battlefield Twitter account: “Keep an eye on our upcoming E3 press conference on June 4th, you will catch any news concerning Close Quarters there. “

Guess DICE couldn’t keep this one a secret for very long! Stay tuned to MP1st on Twitter and Facebook to learn more about Battlefield Premium as well as the Close Quarters and Armored Kill DLCs.

Max Payne 3 Multiplayer – Hilarious Bullet Time Fails

YouTuber shosho10199, aka the Russian Sniper, demonstrates the trouble with Bullet Time in Max Payne 3’s multiplayer.

Sure, Bullet Time is a pretty bad-ass game mechanic made famous in the original Max Payne, but only when it works. It can make for some pretty epic and graceful kills, but it can also lead to hilarious moments like these.
