EPOS B20 Mic Review – Serious Sound

Podcasting and streaming has never been more popular and having the right mic has never been more important. There are a lot of options available of varying quality and prices. EPOS, mostly known for their gaming headsets, is throwing their hat in the mic wring with the EPOS B20, priced at $199.00 USD.

Right off the bat I felt the build of the EPOS B20 was sleek, sturdy and well made. It comes with a built in stand that can either screw into the packed in base to sit on a desk or it can screw into a boom arm. If you don’t have a boom arm, the stand will suffice. It will just mean the mic will probably be further away from your mouth which means it can still catch some surrounding noise. On an adjustable boom, the mic can sit as close or far way as you like. In my recording tests I played with various positions and found that a good 7-8 inches away to be best for space and recording.

Beyond its functionality, for me, the best feature the EPOS B20 has is its USB as opposed to needing an XLR and separate amp which I have been using prior. It’s really just plug in and go. Once I set my computer to recognize the mic I was ready to record. As a Mac user I booted up Garangeband and did a bunch of sample tests with the four settings right on the mic; cardioid, omnidirectional, stereo and bidirectional. In this regard it really depends on your recording environment and what it is you’re recording. The cardioid and omnidirectional settings work best for solo endeavors while the bidirectional works better if you’re using one mic for a two person podcast. I didn’t find any practical use for stereo unless you want to record the entire environment. And in that case you’re going to get a lot of room noice and natural reverb. The mic itself also includes a gain dial to easily control your recording volume as well as a mute button and standard headphone jack for self-monitoring.

I used both Garageband and Audacity to record my voice and found the sound quality to be excellent. Minimal background noise, and in a soundproofed recording space it will sound even better. Nice, crisp, clear recording. And thankfully in a program like Garageband (or Audacity) you can really mix the levels of the recording after the fact to make it sound as good as possible. But here is where I had my biggest issue with the EPOS B20. While the mic itself is compatible with Mac, the EPOS gaming suite which allows for much more robust fine tuning is only available on PC. I mean, I get it to a degree that gaming and streaming is rarely done on Mac, if ever, but the mic is being sold as something people can use for podcasting and other recordings so a Mac version of the software would be a nice bonus.

All in all, I’m quite happy with the EPOS B20 and it’s now become my recording mic for podcasting and general studio use. If you can afford the $199 price tag and are serious about streaming and podcasting, it’s definitely worth it.

Pros:

  • Sleek look and well built
  • USB makes it incredibly easy to plug and go
  • The four settings on the mic allow for several recording set ups
  • Works well with third party recording software
  • Headphone jack for self-monitoring

Cons:

  • $199 is pricey if you’re not serious about podcasting and streaming
  • EPOS gaming suite only available on PC (I’m a Mac guy)

EPOS B20 provided by manufacturer and is out now for $199.99 and can be ordered via the official EPOS site.

15GB Update for Injustice 2 Adds MK11 Advertisement and Removes Denuvo

There’s a massive new update awaiting Injustice 2 players on Steam, and while many were hoping that this may have snuck in a potential tease for a sequel, it seems all it does is ad new promotional material for Mortal Kombat 11 and removes it’s anti-tamper software.

The new Injustice 2 update that was pushed out this morning clocks in at roughly 15GB. It’s a pretty big one, so unsurprisingly the community was quick to speculate that it may have come bearing some sort of tease for the next game. However, it has been confirmed bymultiple users that all it does is add a in-game promotional add for Mortal Kombat 11.

A bit late if you ask us, though according to thethiny, who is known for datamining Mortal Kombat and other NetherRealm Studios’ games, this update also removes Denuvo, an anti-tamper software that is used to help developers combat piracy among other things.

The update removed Denuvo and added MK11 ads, that’s it
byu/CaptainKashup inINJUSTICE

On the console site of things, the PS4 version also saw an update, which you cna find the patch notes below.

Injustice 2 Update 1.20 Patch Notes

  • Online service maintenance update.

Again, not a whole lot here to justify that 15GB, especially considering that NetherRealm Studio announced early this month that they would end support for Mortal Kombat 11. With an update so large, you would think there would be more than just a removal of anti-temper along with a new ad.

Perhaps there is more to this than we think? Who knows, but the community is certainly digging more into it in hopes that something does show up. If there is indeed anything more to this, we will be sure to update this post with all the findings.

NetherRealm Studios has released the Injustice 2 update 1.20 July 19 (update 1.03 for the Legendary Edition) patch today! This is for all platforms, and seems to be a huge update (at least on PC). Before anyone gets excited, there is no new content, and this is purely for fixes (back-end).

New Skate Game Development Update Released by Full Circle

As promised from yesterday’s announcement, a new Skate game development update has been released by developer, Full Circle!

Here’s the teaser from the people working hard on the new game — acknowledging its been 11 years since the last update and that fans have been asking what’s new.

Originally released for the PS3, Xbox 360, and mobile devices in 2007, Skate was developed by EA Black Box and became a critical success — especially for skateboarding enthusiasts who have wanted a game that simulated the experience and gave them a chance to do tricks and moves that many professionals showcase in real life. The environments, control scheme, and soundtrack were praised, but there was some criticism in the physics glitches, multiplayer, and freestyle tricks. Two sequels also followed in Skate 2 and 3, and they gradually tried improving on the concerns players had. Now that a new game is coming and on next gen hardware no less, there’s plenty of room for those improvements and updates to deliver to the fans looking forward to them.

Don’t forget, this new Skate game won’t be appearing on EA Play Live later this week, as is a few other gaming franchises too.

We’ll be sure to keep you updated on the new Skate game when it comes, so check back here at MP1st for more news!

Apex Legends Update 1.74 July 19 Released (Update)

Respawn Entertainment has released the Apex Legends update 1.74 July 19 patch! Given that the big “Emergence” update is due on August 3, don’t expect any new content in today’s patch, but rather, for bug fixes and the like.

Update (July 19, 2023): If you’re somehow seeing this via Google, the patch for the July 19, 2023 can be seen here.

Apex Legends Update 1.74 July 19 Patch Notes:

Update: Respawn has released the official patch notes!

For now, Respawn Entertainment has not given the official changelog for Apex Legends’ latest update, but here’s what’s being worked on per the game’s official Trello board:

  • Users cannot loot Deathboxes or Black Markets when using a custom control layout

Description

If a user is using a custom controller layout that has “Extra Character Action” on; “A” for Xbox users, “X” for Playstation users, or “A” for Nintendo Switch users, they are not able to loot items from Loba Black Markets or Deathboxes. Binding any other action to these buttons does not cause this issue. This occurs on all console platforms.

That’s about it for now. Respawn should release the official patch notes within the day, and once they do, we’ll update the post. If you notice anything, let us know what you find down in the comments.

Make sure to chck out the latest Stories From the Outlands trailer featuring the upcoming legend, Seer!

Microsoft Flight Simulator Xbox File Size Nears 100GB

With Microsoft Flight Simulator coming in 10 discs on PC (physical version), it’s no surprise that the game is going to be quite a download for Xbox gamers. The Microsoft Flight Simulator Xbox file size has been revealed, and it’s near 100GB!

Here’s a screenshot of it taken by our own James Lara:

As you can see, it’s already at 97GB for the Standard version, and that doesn’t include a day-one patch which might or might not drop for the game. Imprtant to note that the Deluxe edition has more planes and airports, so it could be even bigger.

Released last year in August for PC, Microsoft Flight Simulator is set for release on Xbox platforms this July 27, and will be available on Xbox Game Pass on the same day.

Report: Cyberpunk 2077 Free DLC & Expansion Names Leak via Datamining

With Cyberpunk 2077 constantly getting patched, and now even back on the PlayStation Store, some might be wondering what’s next for the action-RPG. It looks like a bunch of Cyberpunk 2077 free DLCs are planned, and the names of these, as well as some of the upcoming expansions have surfaced via datamining.

Reddit user Saint-Pirate went into the game’s files and found references to “EP-1” with new quests from Mr. Hands back in April. Digging into the source code of the game, the miner found a list of DLC and two expansions with the name EP1 & EP2, and remembered their earlier find back in April. It looks like EP1 will see Pacifica expand and have a new Combat zone, new quests and locations too.

Here’s the list of “Names of free DLC” found in the game’s files:

1.)dlc1_swp

2)dlc2_jposes

3)dlc3_kab01

4)dlc4_quartz,

5)dlc5_jackets,

6)dlc6_apart,

7)dlc7_pwp,

8)dlc8_mirror

,9) dlc9_arr06

10) dlc10_monster,

11) dlc11_jlook,

12) dlc12_mfinish,

13) dlc13_twp,

14)dlc14_arr12

15) dlc15_ngplus,

16) dlc16_jpn06

17) dlc17_bwp

For the expansions, based on the files, these will be hefty ones and will most likely be premium (read: paid) content. Sonme of the new gigs unearthed in EP1 are:

  1.  kab01
  2. arr06
  3. arr12,
  4. jpn09

The leaker even tells people how to find the info themselves if they want to check it out.

How to check info about EP1 and prof this list? Just download cp77tools, and in console -unbundle p “path to the lang_en_text.archive in game folder”, after that was unbundle, open folder with name “lang_en_text”>“localization”>”en_us”>>>””onscreens”, find “onscreens.json” and open with notepad(nevermind which) and type in “find” – “Story-ep1-journal-quests-street_stories-sts_ep1_10-Sts_ep1_10_title” – You get text about some street stories from MR.Hands, like “Media in CZ” – CZ means Combat zone. Also u can just type “Dlc_sts_wat_kab_01_content_info_text” – and get funny info about new gigs from free dlc and their names (there is no spoilers about plot of gigs only some funny text). The free DLCs were originally planned for early 2021, but due to the hacker attack and the concentration on the patches to back this game to PS store, they were delayed so they could release even more content or expanded for the already planned free DLCs. We can get more content if they really work well all this half of year. Have a nice day guys.

Image of the files:

LIST of dlc (from leaked source code).

Another redditor pointed out that “WP” most likely stands for “weapon pack,” with the letters standing for:

S – smart
P – power
T – thermal or tech
B – blunt

Same as with every datamined content, treat all these with a bag of salt, as none have been confirmed by CD Projekt RED. That said, these datamined files are usually spot-on, so don’t be surprised to hear of the same stuff announced soon.

In other Cyberpunk 2077 news, CDPR has given out the list of known issues for the game, which you can read about here.

What free content do you want to see from the devs? Would you be happy with two paid expansions or would you want more?

More New Tom Clancy Gameplay Footage Released, Gameplay Video to Be 40-Minutes Long

In case you missed the news, Ubisoft will be revealing a brand-new game tomorrow that is set in the Tom Clancy Universe. While details are still light, it seems that the company has sent some influencers some short snippets of gameplay.

Down below you’ll find three new clips for the upcoming, untitled Ubisoft game.

https://twitter.com/get_flanked/status/1416795678639022083?s=21

It doesn’t look all that bad, though many have pointed out that it bears a striking resemblance to Call of Duty Black Ops. Compared to recent games in the Tim Clancy franchise, this one certainly looks to be a lot faster-paced. While there’s not a lot of details to go on outside of the short snippets of info, we do know that the reveal will clock in at 40 minutes long thanks to the official Ubisoft YouTube account.

It won’t be long now before we actually know what this game is about, as the reveal will be tomorrow at 11AM PT / 8PM CEST.

Skate Related Announcement Tomorrow, But Joins This List of Games Confirmed Not on EA Play Live

While EA announced a new studio that’s focusing o the Skate franchise six months ago, ot seems we’ll finally get an update tomorrow, as Full Circle has announced today that they have something Skate-related announcement for tomorrow!

While that’s good news for Skate fans, the fact that we won’t see anything from Skate at this month’s EA Play Live is a bit disappointing — especially if you consider that other games/franchises have also been confirmed to not be appearing at EA’s premiere games showcase of the year.

Another property confirmed not to be making an appearance is anything Star Wars-related. So for those looking forward to a Jedi: Fallen Order sequel to be announced, yeah, that’s not happening.

Another two franchises that we aren’t going to be seeing are the new Mass Effect game (which has been confirmed to be in development), as well as the next Dragon Age game that was announced last year.

While that might be disappointing to hear, there is a rumor (a strong one at that), that we’ll be seeing an announcement regarding a new Dead Space game, which was supposed to be EA’s big surprise. There’s also, of course, the Battlefield 2042 new game mode that’s going to be revealed there as well.

EA Play Live is set for July 22 and will be around 40 minutes long.

New Tom Clancy Game Set to Be Revealed Tomorrow, Here’s a Snippet of Gameplay

Coming out of left field, Ubisoft has announced today, that a new Tom Clany game is set to be revealed tomorrow! According to Ubisoft, the reveal will take place at 11AM PT/2PM ET/2AM HKT, and this will be a “brand-new game” in the Tom Clancy universe.

Update: The game is officially revealed as “XDefiant!” Here’s the full reveal trailer, screenshots and info for the upcoming 6v6 arena shooter!

What makes this upcoming reveal even weirder is how IGN has posted a quick snippet of gameplay, even! In a world where we get announcements/teases of upcoming reveals, we get an actual gameplay snippet of an upcoming game before it’s officially announced!

As people on Twitter have pointed out, this new title looks to be part of The Division. you can see the Black Tusk Warhound icon, and other stuff that’s connected to the franchise. The color palette and style of the game looks similar to The Division as well.

This might be the official gameplay reveal of The Division Heartland, which is a free-to-play game set in The Division universe. If it is, we wouldn’t be surprised. While gameplay of it has leaked before, Ubisoft has not officially revealed details about the game other than it’s a F2P title set in The Division franchise.

What are you hoping to see tomorrow? Don’t forget to tune in, as MP1st will have the news up ASAP.
