Black Ops Cold War & Warzone Upcoming Double Weapon XP Weekend Announced, New Zombie Map Teased

Not only will Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Call of Duty Warzone players have the big Season 1 mid-season refresh to look forward to tomorrow, but Treyarch has also announced the Black Ops Cold War upcoming double weapon  XP weekend, which also applies to Warzone!

Starting at 10 a.m. PT on January 15 and lasting until 10 a.m. on January 19, players will earn double weapon XP which is arguably more important than double XP!

In addition to the event, Treyarch also teased the new Zombies map and more for the PvE mode:

While Treyarch released a Black Ops Cold War patch yesterday (and we got one for Warzone today), we’re expecting a heft Season 1 mid-season patch to be released later or early tomorrow. So make sure to clear up some harddisk space if you’re planning on downloading it, alright?

Those who are looking to test out Zombies, Treyarch is dishing out a free Zombies trial for the first time in franchise history. You can read up on details about that here.

AEW Console Game Will Include Campaign, Create-a-Wrestler, Aiming for 2021 Release

In November last year, an AEW console game has been announced which is being developed by Yuke’s (Smackdown), and is being helmed by none other than former AKI developer Hideyuki Iwashita. AKI, in case you didn’t know, is the developer behind WWF Wrestlemania 2000, and WWF No Mercy — wrestling games that are widely considered the best of the lot when it comes to wrasslin’ games.

While there’s no new gameplay footage to be shown off, AEW (All Elite Wrestling) Executive Vice President Kenny Omega has hsed a few details regarding the upcoming title. First off, Omega confirmed that still-untitled AEW console game will feature a camaign, and a Create-a-Wrestler feature, as well as multiplayer. One thing fans can take off the table is a General Manager (GM) mode, which will instead be exclusive to the mobile title AEW Elite GM.

As for the available wrestlers, Omega can’t confirm that just yet stating, “I can say right now that we’re not sure of how many wrestlers will be available upon release, but one thing I can say is that the number of wrestlers in the AEW is growing all the time, and the roster of wrestlers in the game will reflect that.”

They are aiming for the wrestling game to be out sometime this year, though that’s not set in stone, as the studio does not want to rush development, so no promises on a release date has been made for now.

Omega knows that a lot of wrestling video game fans are looking forward to something like No Mercy or Virtua Pro Wrestling, though they are looking to modernize the controls and game mechanics. That said, don’t expect it to be a competitor to 2K’s WWE games, as Omega states the “plan is not to compete with WWE and that style of games,” and cites how the recent 2K-published WWE games have tried to look like wrestling matches on TV, and their plan is to not use motion capture (mo-cap) and instead rely on how AKI used to do it before.

As a huge AKI wrestling fan, I’m all for this. I’m definitely excited to see how this one shapes up and if it’s anywhere near as fun as WWF No Mercy, then wrestling fans are in for a treat.

Why the End of EA’s Exclusivity Deal for Star Wars Should Be Celebrated

Earlier today, Lucasfilm Games announced that it’s partnering with Ubisoft to create an open-world Star Wars game. While the idea of an Ubisoft open-world Star Wars game is something to get your blood flowing, the major piece of news to take out of this announcement is the rapid approach to the end of EA’s exclusivity deal with Lucasfilm Games.

Since 2012, EA has been the only publisher producing Star Wars games. EA’s time with the Star Wars brand has been…interesting to say the least. There was the loot box debacle with Battlefront 2 in 2018, which spear-headed the on-going conversation surrounding gambling in games. On the flip side, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order received wide-spread acclaim and a Games Awards nomination for best action/adventure. Jedi: Fallen Order ended with the idea of a sequel, and with EA’s deal running through 2023, there’s still a chance we see Cal again. Overall, it’s been hit-or-miss with EA when it comes to Star Wars games, so the idea of other studios taking a crack at making their own intergalactic adventures should be celebrated.

Ubisoft’s Massive Entertainment studio will be behind the development of this Star Wars project. Massive Entertainment developed The Division 1 and 2, so the Swedish games studio knows a thing or two about creating immersive worlds. The amount of detail they put into creating New York City and Washington D.C. was incredible. Now imagine that same level of detail, but Star Wars. Massive’s Star Wars project is still very early, but we can start making a few early assumptions on what to expect. Open-world Ubisoft games are notorious for having towers for the player to ascend in order to unlock areas of the map, so bank on that. Right now, it’s unknown what Massive’s game will be about. Could it be another Jedi adventure or maybe we’ll get to play as a bounty hunter? I think there’s a rather popular one with his own show on Disney+?

Now as I mentioned, Massive’s project is a ways out there. But seeing that this announcement was made now, it’s only natural to wonder what other studios will take a swing at Star Wars. Let’s take a look at another major Disney-owned franchise: Marvel. Over the past few years, we’ve had a number of Marvel games from different developers: Avengers (Crystal Dynamics), Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order (Team Ninja), LEGO Marvel Super Heroes (Traveller’s Tales), Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite (Capcom), and Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series (Telltale Games). While each of those games come from the same property, they’re all different experiences in their own right. This is something that should get Star Wars fans excited. Star Wars is such a huge franchise with countless characters that the ideas are limitless. There’s so much potential in the Star Wars brand and now studios will finally have the creative freedom to possibly explore it.

https://twitter.com/Nibellion/status/1349366803705819137

As with most things, there’s going to be both positive and negative ripple effects. How could ending EA’s exclusivity deal potentially damage Star Wars? With multiple studios now vying for a piece of the galactic pie, Lucasfilms Games could find themselves in a “quantity over quality” situation. Instead of getting one Star Wars game every couple years, we could see multiple games released in a single calendar year. While many can’t get enough of Star Wars, having too many games could saturate the market and introduce Star Wars fatigue. On the other hand, given the amount of backlash EA has received over the course of its Star Wars deal, Disney might be picky regarding studio pitch ideas. They may not want Star Wars games for the sake of Star Wars games, which could also restrict the amount of creativity behind future projects.

Another potential negative ripple effect is how this muddles up the water on other Massive Entertainment projects. The Division games were solid, although not necessarily the home run hitters that Ubisoft may have envisioned. In addition, Massive announced an Avatar project back in 2017. That makes three major projects, so something has to give. Apparently, Massive is still recruiting staff for the Avatar project, so that would leave a possible third Division game on the outside looking in. While I hope we eventually get a third Division game, the overall premise of an apocalyptic world has overstayed its welcome. If the choice was between The Division 3 and an open-world Star Wars, give me the space game every time.

https://twitter.com/Nibellion/status/1349385563464491014

At the end of the day, Star Wars is simply too complex and enormous of a property to be tied to one studio. EA’s exclusivity deal created too much of a hinderance on the brand and bottlenecked its overall growth. Disney choosing to branch out to other studios beyond EA will ultimately benefit the Star Wars brand moving forward. There’s always that slim chance this move doesn’t pay off, like Star Wars fatigue, but I don’t see that happening. The Star Wars brand hasn’t strayed far from the Skywalker stranglehold, so having an arsenal of studios adding their own flavor to Star Wars can help diversify the brand. There’s so much to be explored in this galaxy far, far away and the end to EA’s deal is the first step in the right direction.

The Division Developer Massive Developing Open-World Star Wars Game

While The Division 2 hasn’t been the mega success that Ubisoft has been hoping it’d be especially compared to how the first game in the franchise, it seems the publisher’s trust in developer Massive Entertainment hasn’t waned, as the publisher has entrusted the studio with a new, open-world Star Wars game!

Earlier this week, Lucasfilm Games was announced, and it looks like that means we’ll be getting AAA games that fall under the brand that’s not published by EA! Today, it’s been revealed that Lucasfilm Games has entered a partnership with Ubisoft to create this still-untitled open-world Star Wars title, which is in very early stages of development.

Heading the production will be The Division 2 director Julian Gerighty, and the game will use Massive Entertainment’s impressive Snowdrop game engine (the same one used for The Division). Other than that, there’s no other info left to parse just yet.

So what does this mean for EA? It looks like the publisher will still be developing Star Wars games moving forward, though based on Disney’s statement, that will be a crowded space very soon.

EA has been and will continue to be a very strategic and important partner for us now and going forward. But we did feel like there’s room for others – Sean Shoptaw, senior vice president of Global Games and Interactive Experiences at Disney

Aside from Star Wars, Lucasfilm Games has also announced a game based on Indiana Jones and is being developed by Bethesda.

Needless to say, we see this as a good thing, as we can’t wait to see what other studios have up their sleeves when it comes to Lucasfilm properties.

Rogue Company Update 1.45 January 13 Drags Two to Tango Update Today

Rogues, First Watch Games and Hi-Rez Studios have brought the first big title update to third-person shooter, Rogue Company! The Rogue Company update 1.45 January 13 patch brings the Two to Tango update, which includes a new limited time mode, new Skirmish maps, Rogue balance changes and more. Head on below for the full patch notes.

Rogue Company Update 1.45 January 13 Patch Notes:

New Limited Time Mode: Wingman

This new mode is designed for intense and high stakes combat and puts you and a partner up against another two-man team on smaller Skirmish maps. You’ll depend on your teammate to quickly neutralize your opponents.

Standard Wingman (Coming soon)

  • Each player has only one life.
  • Each match is Best of 9.
  • Each round lasts only 45 seconds.
  • Eliminate all members of the opposing team to win.
  • If no team is eliminated by the end of the round, an objective will spawn in the middle of the map. The first team to capture it wins the round.

Wingman Strikeout (Available with the update!)

  • Each team has 6 tickets.
  • Each match is Best of 5.
  • Each round lasts 2 minutes.
  • Eliminate all enemy tickets to win.
  • Capturing the objective also eliminates a ticket from the enemy team every 30 seconds.

New Limited Mode: Countdown

This brand new mode requires flexibility as your team attempts to control the bomb and prevent your opponents from defeating you.

  • Each match is Best of 5.
  • Teams begin each round with 90 tickets.
  • For every second you hold the bomb the other team loses a ticket.
  • There are respawns similar to Strikeout.
  • The Shop will be available at the beginning of each round.
  • The bomb will be carried as an object.

Skirmish Maps:

Depot

Built to simulate combat in an industrial setting, Depot offers generous lines of sight for tracking enemy movement and quick skirmishes.

District

This Rogue Company training ground was built to simulate close-quarters combat and urban warfare. Back alleys and abandoned buildings give players opportunities to flank and out position the competition.

Rogues

Phantom

  • Fixed an issue where the Nano Smoke grenade would be thrown instantly.

Talon

  • Reduced the retrieve time of the Mag Gloves ability.

Weapons

A3 Salvo

  • Changed from a single shot to a two-shot burst.
  • Head damage increased from 20 to 24 per shot.
  • Body damage increased from 13 to 19.
  • Fire rate increased from 3.03 to 3.92.

LW6 Revolver (Dallas)

  • Increased maximum damage falloff.

P12K (Phantom, Talon)

  • Increased magazine size from 7 to 8.
  • Level 2 Upgrade increases the magazine size from 12 to 14.

Tyr (Fixer)

  • Weapon range reduced from 70m to 40m.

Gadgets

Flashbang

  • Flash duration reduced from 3.5s to 3s.

Sticky Sensor

  • Adjusted the gadget volume.
  • Increased throw speed to match other gadgets.
  • Fixed an issue where the reveal area could be offset.

Tear Gas Grenade

  • Increased strength of the gas disorientation effect.

Perks

Cloaked

  • No longer provides reveal immunity against persistent reveals. Sticky Sensor and Nano Smoke will always reveal enemy players.
  • Cloaked will reduce the duration of Dallas’ Tracker Rounds by 50%.
  • This change does NOT impact Lancer.

Bounce Back

  •  Previously reduced the time it took for the health regeneration to start by 2 seconds. In addition to reducing that time, Bounce Back will now give players 30 health per second instead of 20. The overall time to reach max health will be significantly shorter.

Quality of Life:

  • Surrender vote in Ranked matches without a team member leaving can now be triggered after 8 minutes.

Bugs:

  • Fixed an issue preventing the Good Company Achievement from progressing
  • Glacier Map
    • The bomb can no longer be thrown through the walls below the crane on the attacker’s spawn side.
    • Fixed texture issues on the mast of the ship and submersible vehicle.
    • Fixed a collision issue where the camera would clip through the ship’s hull near the ziplines on both sides of the map.
    • Fixed an issue near the left hand zipline which would cause wave effects to not appear
  • Melee weapons thrown at Sigrid’s shield no longer lodge themselves at unusual angles.
  • Fixed an issue that would prevent players from using the report function on the scoreboard while they were eliminated.
  • Fixed an issue where incorrect damage was displayed to players with Headstrong.
  • Weapons used during the Rogue menu animations will now properly disappear when they go behind a Rogue’s back.
  • Reloading during a dodge roll should no longer result in a floating weapon animation.
  • In the Arms Race Limited Time Mode players will no longer respawn in the Chimera after dying.
  • Fixed an issue which would prevent the Objective in Strikeout from appearing on the minimap for consoles.

Known Issues:

When a player dies in a match, the spectator camera no longer auto-switches to another team member that is alive.

Note that the Rogue Company servers are undergoing maintenance from 12:00 UTC and will last for roughly three hours.

Black Ops Cold War Servers Down and Issues Are Happening Right Now, Devs Investigating (Update)

While Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War got an update earlier today that seems to be something else and not the patch that brings the data for the Season 1 mid-season refresh, it looks like the game is having other problems, as players have reported Black Ops Cold War servers down reports, and how these server issues aren’t letting players join matches.

Over on the game’s subreddit, multiple threads have surfaced showing how the server queues are putting players on hold for days or weeks even!

See you guys in 49 days
byu/Antsi12 inblackopscoldwar

Why is this happening
byu/sub_to_joeymymum inblackopscoldwar

Only thing consistent lately about this game is the bugs after a update, can’t get into a game when the timer reaches 0 it backs me out to the Home Screen. Then when I go onto multiplayer it does the same thing again!
byu/vincchensko-123 inblackopscoldwar

Already waited 10 minutes in the server queue before it refreshed… annoying or what
by inblackopscoldwar

My fucking lord dude
by inblackopscoldwar

Be back in 71,582 Minutes I guess?
byu/Apprehensive-Work-18 inblackopscoldwar

You get the idea, right? Thankfully, Treyarch is aware of this, as Community Manager Josh Torres has mentioned that they are investigating this Black Ops Cold War server issue.

It’s been a rough 2021 for Call of Duty players so far, as Call of Duty Warzone is now facing an onslaught of Stim exploit abusers with no ETA on a fix mentioned.

Hopefully things will improve in a few days’ time, as the big Season 1 mid-season refresh set to drop on January 14 will bring in not only a wave of new content, but we’re also expecting a slew of gameplay-related changes/fixes to go along with it too. We’ll update the post once issues are sorted, or if Treyarch has issued an update on the game’s server status.

Update: Treyarch has announced that online services for Black Ops Cold War has been restored!

Call of Duty Warzone Stim Exploit Back in Full Force, No ETA on Fix

Way back before Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War was released and integrated with Call of Duty Warzone, the free-to-play battle royale suffered through the Warzone Stim exploit that allowed players who had the item equipped to continually inject themselves non-stop.

For those not familiar with the equipment, the Stim shot immediately healed the player when used, which is a major issue with battle royale games where survivability is key. Well, the Stim exploit is back and with a vengeance! This means that abusers are now winning matches just by hanging around the gas area and being able to tank the damage just by constantly using Stim!

Check ’em out being abused below:

January 2021 and there is still a way for rats to hide in the gas forever and get free wins?
by inCODWarzone

I guess the Stim Glitch is still in the game
byu/JKemmett inModernWarzone

Odds are, if you’re a Warzone player, you’ve seen this Warzone Stim exploit being used in a match. Sadly, Treyarch (nor Raven Software) has not given any timeframe on when a fix can be expected, though with the Season 1 mid-season refresh hitting on January 14, there’s a good chance that the patch released for it will include the fix for this exploit as well.

It’s been a rough new year for Warzone players, as aside from the Stim glitch, the Black Ops Cold War weapons that were introduced to Warzone presented problems of their own. Hopefully, these two issues in Warzone will be ironed out soon.

  • Fight for your life in a thrilling battlefield of alleyways, ancient stone, towering steel, and cat cafes. Shatter your enemy’s dreams in the pottery shop, deliver beatdowns in the Tora no Sumika nightclub, or rise above the competition in the tower at the center of the city.

GENERAL UPDATES

Feature Update: Replay Viewer Custom Spectator Options
  • Added Detached Timecode UI option to Replay Viewer

HERO UPDATES

ASHE

Ashe being able to eliminate 200 health enemy heroes with one headshot while assisted by 30% damage boost became too dominant, especially when combined with the other improvements to her weapon. We are lowering the maximum damage but also the shot recovery time to keep her overall damage output relatively the same.

The Viper
  • Aim-down-sights damage reduced from 80 to 75
  • Aim-down-sights recovery time reduced from 0.7 to 0.65 seconds

HANZO

This rate of fire change improves the feel and effectiveness of the Storm Arrows ability and though small, adds up over the course of firing 5 arrows.

Storm Arrows
  • Shot recovery time reduced from 0.3 to 0.25 seconds

SIGMA

We’re increasing the cooldown of Sigma’s barrier to require a higher commitment to its placement and open up additional opportunities for counterplay.

Experimental Barrier
  • Redeploy cooldown increased from 1 to 2.5 seconds

WRECKING BALL

Wrecking Ball’s high mobility and potential for massive shield health have left him a bit too survivable after the overall damage and crowd control in the game have been tuned down. We are reducing the amount of additional shields he generates per target though the base 100 shields from the ability remains unchanged.

Adaptive Shield
  • Shield per target reduced from 100 to 75

BUG FIXES

General
  • Fixed a bug that caused the flex role rewards banner to not display immediately
  • Fixed a bug with the end of round screen for Deathmatch that would exclude players who left when the match ends
  • Fixed a bug that caused achievement categories in the career profile to become misaligned when setting the filter to “locked”
  • Fixed a bug that caused jump landing sounds to not playback properly
  • Fixed a bug with long spray names overlapping with UI elements
  • [Fixed on impacted platforms] Fixed a bug that caused an indefinite loading icon on the Social menu if your friends list is empty
  • [PC-Only] Fixed a bug that caused the mouse cursor to remain focused on the game client while in windowed or windowed fullscreen mode
Heroes

Doomfist

  • Fixed a bug with the “One Punch” highlight intro that would cause it to clip into the ground on certain maps

Genji

  • Fixed a bug with the Genji Contenders skin portrait not appearing properly

Junkrat

  • Fixed a bug with the “Unwrap” emote animation not displaying properly when rotating the camera around during its duration

Not a bad way to start the year, right? Once we hear of the next title update, we’ll be sure to let our readers know about it.

Black Ops Cold War Zombies Free Trial Announced, Set for Jan. 14

While Activision has dished out free trials for Call of Duty multiplayer before, the publisher is doing something new this year, as the Black Ops Cold War Zombies free trial week has been announced! For the first time, Treyarch’s trademark mode will be available for free for an entire week!

Starting January 14 and lasting until January 21, the Black Ops Cold War Zombies free trial will be available on all platforms and will include the following game modes:

Die Maschine

An abandoned WWII-era laboratory in Poland containing a massive particle collider has opened a rift to unexplainable monstrosities and animated undead forces. As part of the international response team known as Requiem, you’ll infiltrate the DZ and try to survive waves of zombies through multiple rounds as you either uncover the secrets of “Die Maschine,” or exfiltrate early with your life intact (and some great rewards to boot).

With its starting area paying homage to the original World at War Zombies map that started it all, “Die Maschine” is a round-based Zombies experience where up to four players can drop in and attempt to survive the horrors that lie in wait. Work together by using dozens of weapons, lethal and tactical equipment, powerful Scorestreaks, and special Field Upgrades – such as an Energy Mine or an instant-heal through the Healing Aura – that charge up by killing zombies.

Cranked

As per usual, you and your squad will be airlifted in with a loadout of your choice. However, once the first zombie hits the floor, the Cranked Timer starts ticking away. Your Operator will explode if they fail to kill another zombie before the timer hits zero, and the timer gets shorter and shorter as the game progresses! Keep an eye out for the Cranked Timer Power-up, which temporarily freezes the timer for all players.

Watch the clock – and your six – to survive this fast-paced new Zombies game mode… and be sure to put the locational Ping system to use when playing with your squad.

Onslaught (PlayStation Exclusive*)

Those who play on PlayStation can also access Onslaught, the fast-paced new two-player Zombies experience on Black Ops Cold War’s Multiplayer maps.

In this mode, your duo will use whatever is in your loadouts to fight against hyper-aggressive waves of undead forces. Unlike in traditional round-based Zombies, a Dark Aether Orb will confine you to a specific space on the map until it is charged by the souls of the undead.

As the safe area shifts, expect increasingly difficult surges of enemies, including incredibly powerful Elites, to test your duo’s survival skills. Slay enough of these Elites, and you’ll earn special Bronze, Silver, or Gold rankings and exclusive* Weapon Blueprints.

The free trial coincides with the release of the Black Ops Cold War Season 1 mid-season refresh which is hitting this January 14.
