Call of Duty: Modern Warfare New Game Engine Took Over 5 Years to Develop, Infinity Ward Sets Up Studio in Poland Just for It

We’ve already mentioned how Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2019 was going to feature a brand new engine that’s technically more capable than what the COD studios has been using all these years. Activision just posted a full feature highlighting this Modern Warfare new game engine, and while there’s a lot of technical stuff discussed, there were also nuggets of info that fans might be curious about.

Remember, Infinity Ward was adamant in pointing out that the reveal trailer was 100 percent gameplay, with “no magic, no trickery.”

According to Activision, an entirely new Infinity Ward tech studio was created in Poland just for this Modern Warfare new game engine, and “to bring this vision to fruition.” Not only that, but it seems the studio has been working on it since the start of this generation, as Infinity Ward Poland studio boss Michael Drobot comments that this took over five years to develop.

For the complete, in-depth feature regarding the new game engine being used, click here.

Stay tuned for the Modern Warfare gameplay reveal which Infinity Ward mentions to as we’re “almost there.” You can check out our first multiplayer screenshots here.

Report: Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Campaign Planned Initially, Was Targeted to Be 2v2 Multiplayer

It’s no secret by now that last year’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is the first-ever major entry in the franchise without a campaign mode. Treyarch compensated for this by instead including Blackout, which is Treyarch’s take on the battle royale formula.

Well, as it turns out, Treyarch originally had a Black Ops 4 campaign in mind, but one that was entirely different from what the franchise is known for. In a new report by Kotaku detailing the awful work environment QA testers and contractual employees had suffered through in developing Black Ops 4, it was mentioned that Treyarch originally envisioned a 2v2 multiplayer campaign. And nope, it wasn’t just a concept either, as Treyarch apparently had a milestone demo done complete with “a few missions working,” voice acting, full art, and more.

Related Black Ops 4 Reading:

Here are a few choice excerpts straight from the report detailing how the projected Black Ops 4 campaign would play.

This time, the plan had been to do something very different from previous Call of Duty campaigns. Black Ops 4 was set after Black Ops 3’s story, but rather than play through the campaign yourself, you’d play alongside a partner, battling against a pair of human opponents. (If you wanted to play single-player, they’d all be AI-driven bots.) Each side would pick a faction, and you’d compete to gun down enemies and battle over different objectives in a post-apocalyptic world. One side might try to destroy a convoy, for example, while the other side worked to protect it. Or maybe one faction would set off to protect a journalist while the other faction tried to assassinate them. Each mission would give you chances to get into shootouts with the other team, hampering their progress if you did well. During different moments throughout the story, you’d also get the chance to defect and switch sides if you weren’t happy with the choices your faction was making.

Unfortunately, due to negative feedback from playtesters who deemed it too repetitive, technical concerns, and other stuff, the studio decided to pivot this 2v2 affair into a traditional Call of Duty campaign. That one didn’t work out either given how the studio was strapped for time.

Again, go read the full report since it documents how hard these QA testers worked on the game, and what kind of hardships they’ve gone through.

Former Sledgehammer Games Co-Founder Now Head of New Studio at PUBG Corporation, Will Create “New Experience” in PUBG Universe

While PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (more commonly known as PUBG) has created (or popularized) an entirely new genre, it seems we’ll be getting something new in terms of the brand name at some point in the near future. Today, in a press release, PUBG Corporation has announced that Glen Schofield, Former Vice President and General Manager of Sledgehammer Games (Call of Duty: WWII), is now the CEO of Striking Distance, a new studio under PUBG Corporation.

According to the press release, Schofield is building a “world class development team” from the ground up to create an “original narrative experience within the PUBG universe.” Here’s what Schofield had to say about the recent announcement.

“Throughout my career, I’ve had a lot of opportunities to make some remarkable games that tell incredible stories, and each of them has meant something special to me,” said Schofield. “But now, those learnings will help me build a AAA team that can explore new designs and concepts at Striking Distance.”

Striking Distance is located in San Ramon, CA, and is an independent studio wholly owned by PUBG Corporation, which will act as the publisher for the studio’s upcoming project. Striking Distance is currently hiring for “AAA talent,” which you can check out here.

Does this mean we’ll see a story-driven PUBG title in the near future? Or maybe will take Call of Duty head-on? Your guess is as good as mine.

A big hearty congratulations to Glen Schofield and we can’t wait to see what the studio cooks up!

The Division 2 PTS Changes That Are Coming to Title Update 5 Outlined

Earlier today, a new State of the Game was aired by Ubisoft for The Division 2, and in it, upcoming changes coming to the game have been outlined. Of course, before it makes it into the final patch version, it needs to be tested on the PTS (Public Test Server) first. If you’re curious about the upcoming The Division 2 PTS changes, read on below.

Title Update 5 / Episode 1 PTS

  • Will be open on Monday
  • The content will be open in stages, so that specific content can be tested one at a time.
  • The exact schedule will be posted later.

Highlighted Changes:

Blueprints

  • The entire blueprint pool of Inaya, Projects and Control Points are now shared, so if you missed a project you can grind them out at Control Points.

Exotics

  • Heroic Bosses drop Exotics
  • There will no longer be any stat downgrade when you update an Exotic to GS 500. Upgraded Exotics roll at max level – so if you have a GS 500 Nemesis, you have the same GS 500 Nemesis as everyone else.

Gun Runner Buff

  • Cassie Mendoza will now sell GS500 items.
  • She will also sell Named Items and Exotics

Crafting Station Upgrade

  • The Crafting Station can be upgraded to GS 500
  • The upgrade requires a GS 490 Gun, GS 490 Gear Piece and Materials

Recalibration

  • Crafted items can be used for recalibration.

Flashlight

  • There will be a flashlight attachment for pistols.
  • It can be found somewhere.

Two new weapons

  • Two new weapons will be added with Title Update 5.
  • Carbine 7 Assault Rifle
  • Stoner LMG
  • Both with new Talents
  • Diamond back leaver action rifle

=> Carbine 7 / Stoner LMG

New Gloves

  • New Exotic BTSU (Black Tusk Special Unit) Gloves.
  • This is specialized on hybrid Skill Builds (Offensive / Crowd Control combos) when you switch between those skills you will unlock very good buffs.
  • For example the Remote Pulse will have a detonate effect)

=> Cloves

In addition to those, a bunch of things are being looked into by Ubisoft Massive.

Skills Overhaul

They have done an overhaul of all Skills and in particular how they interact with Skill mods – how they get buffed and get more effective. The most viable skill-builds revolved around explosive skills – now they are even stronger, while the other like the Turret or the Shields are on par with that.

Intend

It basically started with looking at the DPS meta and how much damage you can do with weapons. At the moment you can do up to 3 Million DPS with an assault rifle build. They then basically used that as a benchmark and started working on the Skill Builds so that they can keep up with that. The goal was not to nerf the weapons – but to buff, a 100% Skill focused to build up to that level.

What as changed

Gear Mods

The Gear Mods got a big buff in how much impact they have on the Skills:

For example:

  • TU4: A 3k Skill Power Turret Mod will buff the damage for 25-30%
  • TU5: A 3k Skill Power Turret Mod will buff the damage for 150%

Cooldown Reduction becomes Skill Haste

They also looked at cooldowns and how effective the current cooldown system is. It was very easy to get 90% Skill cooldown and get it down to 10 seconds. This is a problematic situation.

What they basically did is, that they changed Cooldown Reduction into Skill Haste. Skill Haste goes way above 100% and is a healthier system for the long term health of the game.

  • So as of Title Update 5 Cooldown Reduction has been renamed into Skill Haste on all your items.
  • The current values will also be buffed by 33%
  • There are also very powerful Skill Haste Mods – so when you have 3k Skill Power you can have up to 200% Skill Haste on those mods.

Damage Buffs to Skills

The damage Skills were also buffed to do a lot more damage to the NPCs – even before the buffs from the Specialization are added on top of that. So when you have 3k Skill Power you can do a lot of damage even on challenging difficulty. But on heroic difficulty, it will still take some effort.

Weapons are Still very much viable

While the Skills got a big buff – the king of continuous damage are still the weapons. This rework is not about “replacing weapon builds with skill builds” but to make them a viable option on the battlefield.

Shields were also buffed

The Shield-Skills also got a big buff to become more usable on the battlefield

In case you’re curious, a big patch was released last week, which you can read about here.

Battlefield 5 Karabin 1938M Gameplay and “Cavalleria” Weapon Set and New Melee Weapons Shown Off

With Tides of War Chapter 4: Defying the Odds starting this week in Battlefield 5 via a new game patch, a new round of datamined info has been unearthed, and one of them is new gameplay footage for some of the still-unreleased weapons! Below, we’ll see Battlefield 5 Karabin gameplay footage, along with a few melee weapons shown off.

Once again unearthed by reliable Battlefield dataminer temporyal, the Karabin 1938M is part of the reward coming to Chapter 4 Week 3. In addition to that, we see the “Cavalleria” weapon set, melee kills using Ilse’s pickaxe, and Norman’s British naval dagger.

Battlefield 5 gameplay featuring the Karabin 1938M Semi-Automatic Rifle and two new melee weapons (Ilse Schattenwolf’s Pickaxe and Norman Kingsley’s British Naval Dagger).

Influenced by the BAR, the polish Karabin 1938M rifle was in early troop trials as war broke out. A semi-automatic, fixed magazine rifle reminiscent of popular carbines that were already in use. It has a magazine capacity of 10 rounds.

Ilse Schattenwolf’s Pickaxe: Decorated with a sword portepee strap normally found on dress uniform swords. No one is sure of its significance to Ilse, but the axe has likely seen more use than most.

Norman Kingsley’s British Naval Dagger: Nicknames are common in times of war. In the case of the Royal British Navy, a dagger is often called a “dirk”.

Stay tuned for more datamined content for Battlefield 5! What do you think of the Karabin so far?

==== Gameplay Changes ====

Survivors

  • Artificer
    • New Passive: ENV-Suit
      • ☂ The Artificer now hovers while holding Jump.
    • Add new crosshair
    • Add new bloom effects for Firebolt
  • Mercenary
    • ☂ Add true invincibility during Eviscerate and Blinding Assault.
    • ☂ Add lingering invincibility for 0.6s after Eviscerate ends.
    • ☂ Blinding Assault deducts 1 from stock when timed out rather than resetting it all to 0.
    • ☂ Add “Safe Movement” during Eviscerate and Assaulter to reduce the chance of clipping through geometry
  • Engineer
    • Turret Base Damage: 19 ⇒ 16
  • MUL-T
    • ☂ Now comes down in a unique pod!
  • Huntress
    • ☂ Raise vertical height of Arrow Rain to be more cylindrical
    • Fix Huntress Arrow Rain jump not scaling its animation speed with attack speed
    • ☂ Add “Safe Movement” during Blink to reduce the chance of clipping through geometry
    • Clean up logic in Strafe to possibly prevent double firing

Items

  • ☂ Critical Strikes no longer double/triple/quadruple/etc “dip” through the proc chain
    • On-hit items have accidentally been benefiting multiple times from critical strikes, resulting in each proc doubling in damage for huge multipliers. While neat, this was ultimately unintentional and not sustainable for the game going forward – so we’re ripping the bandaid now and fixing it. On-hit items have been compensated for the removal of power from this fix.
  • Frost Relic
    • Has been reworked in functionality
      • Now grows in size for every kill, up to a limit that increases with stacking
      • Damage: 25% (+25% per stack) per kill ⇒ 150% (+150% per stack)
      • Proc Coefficient: 0.05 ⇒ 0.2
      • Update graphics to be ~cooler~
  • Ceremonial Dagger
    • ☂ Update AI to be more accurate and performant
    • Dagger Damage: 150% ⇒ 150% (+150% per stack)
    • Dagger Number: 3 daggers (+3 per stack) ⇒ 3 daggers
  • Monster Tooth
    • Healing Orb: 4 (+4 per stack) ⇒ 6 (+6 per stack)
  • AP Rounds
    • Bonus Damage: 20% (+10% per stack) ⇒ 20% (+20% per stack)
  • Chronobauble
    • Slow Duration: 1 (+1 per stack) ⇒ 2 (+2 per stack)
    • Update tier color outline to match other items
  • AtG Missile
    • Damage: 300% (+300% per stack) additive damage ⇒ 300% (+300% per stack) total damage
To compensate for the Crit fix, we’ve moved over on-hit effects to deal a percentage of TOTAL damage. That is, if you have a proc that deals 300% damage from an attack that hits for 100, it will hit for 300. Previously it was a complicated additive formula – this change is either neutral or a buff for every character, and GREATLY benefits slow, high-damage attacks like the Artificer’s.
  • Ukulele
    • Damage: 80% additive damage ⇒ 80% total damage
  • Meat Hook
    • Damage: 100% additive damage ⇒ 100% total damage
  • Sticky Bomb
    • Damage: 250% (+125% per stack) additive damage ⇒ 180% total damage
  • Runald’s Band
    • Damage: 250% (+125% per stack) additive damage ⇒ 250% (+125% per stack) total damage
  • Kjaro’s Band
    • Damage: 500% (+250% per stack) additive damage ⇒ 500% (+250% per stack) total damage
  • Brilliant Behemoth
    • Damage: 60% additive damage ⇒ 60% total damage
  • Gesture Of the Drowned
    • Cooldown Reduction: 50%(+50% per stack) ⇒ 50% (+15% per stack)
      • GoTD, unlike most other Lunar items, doesn’t have stacking drawbacks, and should therefore stack more like a Tier 2 in power.
  • Brittle Crown
    • Update Brittle Crown’s item log description to now show stacking behavior
  • N’Kuhana’s Opinion
    • Fix item pickup not having both horns highlighted

Stage

  • All Stages
    • ☂ Can now spawn Legendary Chests post-loop
    • Can now spawn Category Chests
    • Enable more batched meshes to help performance
    • Update pillars, rocks, boulders, and logs causing “stuck spots” on certain maps
  • Distant Roost
    • Update grass texture

    • Chests now properly scale in cost with difficulty

    • Expanded the size between scaffolding pillars to prevent certain characters getting stuck inside

Monsters

  • Jellyfish
    • Nova Proc Coefficient: 1 ⇒ 2
  • Wandering Vagrant
    • Nova Proc Coefficient: 1 ⇒ 3
  • Lemurian
    • Now slows down when close range to prevent them from missing and circle strafing while biting
  • Clay Dunestrider
    • Add standable platform on Clay Dunestrider’s pot body
    • Increase inner “mulch” radius from 5 to 10 to compensate for new collision

Misc

  • ☂ HUD now displays current stage count
  • Add support for new health-type: Barrier
    • Barrier is a health value that can exceed your maximum health, but degrades over time.

  • Add Engineer sounds to Bubble Shield
  • A ton of other tweaks to SFX!

==== QOL ====

  • ☂ Add option in Settings to remove sprint sensitivity reduction
  • Remove unnecessary character logic from running on clients – this should lead to a large performance boost for clients in an online game!

  • ☂ Increased the Monster logs despawn timer from 1 minute to 5 minutes

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Pay to Win Feature Added Into Blackout in Latest Patch, Community Outraged

Earlier today, Treyarch rolled out a big Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 patch, which not only introduced Contracts in multiplayer, but also introduced Blackjack’s Stashes in Blackout. While this should be a new feature that the Blackout player base should embrace, it unfortunately introduced a pay-to-win element in Blackout.

In Treyarch’s introduction of Blackjack Stashes in Blackout, there’s a certain restriction that makes it so that you can only use that weapon if you have unlocked it yourself from Reserves (Black Ops 4’s loot boxes). Here’s Activision’s explanation of Blackjack Stashes and how they work in Blackout.

New Feature: Blackjack’s Stashes. Each player will be able to unlock one of Blackjack’s Stashes per game, which contains all the Black Market weapons in your inventory. For instance, if you’ve earned the Vendetta in the Contraband stream, it will be available for you to grab during a Blackout match in one of Blackjack’s Stashes.

Nope, you can’t pick it up if another player dropped it, and you can’t find it anywhere in the map. This means that some of the best guns in the mode (Blackout) can only be used by people who got the gun via the Black Market Reserves, and given how hard it is to earn these Reserves, more often than not, the people who have these said guns didn’t earn these weapons, but rather, bought them with real-world money.

Needless to say, the Black Ops 4 community is very upset. Here’s the front page of the Black Ops 4 subreddit now:

Take note that there are more threads that state the same thing, but you get the gist. Here’s some of the most upvoted threads in it, and what the community is saying:

Blackjacks stashes seriously? P2W BR is a death sentence
byu/BaconDG inBlackops4

Good God Treyarch. This has turned into amateur hour.
byu/crk916 inBlackops4

There’s a lot more threads and comments that are very, very upset with how Treyarch has seemingly made one out of touch decision after another. In case you didn’t know, the last patch before today also introduced pay-to-win elements into multiplayer, which, unfortunately, isn’t new for the studio.

Related Black Ops 4 Reading:

Will Treyarch change this? I’m hoping they do, but given how often something like this happens, will players even care at this point — especially with Modern Warfare waiting in the wings.

If you’re a Black Ops 4 Blackout player, let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Courtesy of the Activision blog, here are some of the new features introduced in today’s patch, and how Contracts work.

New Feature: Contracts

In addition to the Contraband stream, players can earn rewards by completing new Contracts. Each Contract outlines a specific challenge, such as earning specific in-match medals or getting a set number of kills with a specific weapon class. Here are some details on how it works:

Step 1: Simply choose two Contracts you wish to pursue at a time from a total of 28, including six Contracts in each of the four modes and a Daily Contract in each mode. Note: of the six Contracts per game mode, two are deemed “Hard” and will offer better rewards!

Step 2: Use your gaming prowess to complete the associated skill-based challenges that can be related to Multiplayer, League Play, Blackout, or Zombies.

Step 3: Did you complete a Contract? Claim your prize! Then return to Step 1 and continue with another Contract, until you either complete all 28 (which is a real challenge!), or until the next day when Contracts are refreshed.

Bonus: You’ll continue to earn Reserves through gameplay as usual, and Daily Tier Skips will still be awarded for your first win in Multiplayer or League Play, first Merit earned in Blackout, or for reaching round 15 in Classic Zombies each day. The second Daily Tier Skip in Zombies will also now be awarded for completing the Daily Contract in Zombies.

Blackout Updates

New Feature: Blackjack’s Stashes. Each player will be able to unlock one of Blackjack’s Stashes per game, which contains all the Black Market weapons in your inventory. For instance, if you’ve earned the Vendetta in the Contraband stream, it will be available for you to grab during a Blackout match in one of Blackjack’s Stashes.

New Feature: Humiliations. These are epic finishing moves that can be used on enemy when they are in a downed state. Humiliations will be available in all squad-based Blackout modes and Multiplayer’s Heist.

New Equipment: Sentry (Turret). These are available only in Supply Drops and Stashes. Activate them for an additional increase in overall firepower, as well as another layer of strategy to your takedown planning.

New Feature: Medals: Similar to Multiplayer mode, completing certain events in Blackout grants you medals that reward Merits. Expect Merits for actions that include (but are not limited to) reviving, assisting, performing Humiliations, eliminating a Quad or Duo, taking down zombies, Double, Triple, and Quad kills, Frenzy, Mega, and Ultra kills, as well as the fabled Kill Chain; eight kills within three seconds of the last one!

That’s it, people. Let us know if you notice anything new not in the patch notes.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Nominated for E3 Best Action Game and Best Online Multiplayer From The Game Critics Awards

While we haven’t seen a second of actual Call of Duty: Modern Warfare gameplay, that doesn’t mean it’s not in a playable state. On the contrary, a lot of people have gotten their hands on it, though there’s no actual official gameplay released just yet.

Well, it seems whatever Infinity Ward showed impressed enough people, as Modern Warfare has been nominated for two major awards at E3 2019! Modern Warfare got nominated for the Best Action Game, and Best Online Multiplayer awards at E3.

Impressive, right? Let’s hope that we get actual multiplayer gameplay soon. Infinity Ward has mentioned that we’re “almost there” when it comes to the official reveal, so fingers crossed it’s within the next month. We will be sure to keep you all posted on details as they arrive. Here’s hoping they show off a lengthy amount of multiplayer gameplay along with giving us an idea of what the campaign will be about.

Is It Possible to Win by Gambling on E-sports?

Any person who comes to the online betting site wants to win. I want to win immediately and preferably, like in the movies – fabulous sums that are simply physically impossible to spend in a lifetime. Nevertheless, the reality is usually different from the cinema, the losses and winnings constantly replace each other. Most unlucky people think that it is impossible to win on betting, in online gambling games or online slot machines. We will talk further about the technical side of e-sports bets and whether it is possible to win at all, trying to guess the outcome of the matches in popular e-sports gaming titles like dota2, CSGO, Starcraft 2, etc.

Knowledge is power in eSports

The first thing to be understood: in betting, as a rule, you won’t win millions. Forget all the images imposed by the cinema. If you bet $10, do not expect that the gain will be $100 million. For such big sums, the bet itself needs to be huge.

Similarly, you should not expect that by placing only one time, you instantly get rich. The first thing to keep in mind when making a bet on the outcome of the match for example in the “DotA 2”: the loss is real. So take care to calculate all the chances of winning and make your informed choice. A common misconception: by making a huge bet, you will certainly win. The money that you invest in the tote should be the last link in a long chain of complex calculations and reasoning.

Another useful tip is not to take the coefficients on the sites too seriously. These indicators often point not to the invincible masters of the game, but to today’s favorite. In addition, a position with a high ratio has more chances to win, so it will be predictably more bets on it, and the winning sum will be less.

To start winning, in perspective you need to find your way, and not blindly follow the opinion of the crowd, “raising” 2 cents on each dollar.

Before you go to bet on any of the eSports disciplines, it is strongly recommended to get at least an approximate idea about it, and it is better to have some kind of experience. Unlike traditional sports, relying on e-sports, you have to take into account a huge number of factors, some of which are often unknown even to the player.

Luck in eSports smiles only for prepared

The second thing you need to remember in preparation for an e-sports gambling – a win is completely realistic. There is no global conspiracy of bookmakers who have decided by all means to take away money from users and spend it on gold Ferrari. Each solid bookmaking company has a reputation that it values, so it will not deceive people. In addition, eSports is akin to mathematics – if all the conditions of the “problem solving” are met, the “answer” will necessarily be correct. However, your first bid simply must be the amount with which you are ready to part forever. Whoever says anything to you, but to break a more or less significant sum for the first time is almost impossible. Do not succumb to the action of emotions, do not try to “appease Fortune” or “lure good luck” – these superstitions simply have no place in the bookmaker’s craft. Be collected, analyze the game of the team you want to bet money on. Do not be lazy to find on the Internet records of their games and carefully study their tactics. In the end, you are going to put money on these people and need to know how they achieve victory, so regularly follow the state of things.

Ignore someone else’s chatter. On the Internet, because of imaginary anonymity, everything around you may seem smarter and claim that they know exactly who will win the next game. But if professional players or people who have devoted their entire life to the eSports gambling industry do not talk about matches, this “authoritative” opinion can be ignored. It is difficult because one of the peculiarities of the human psyche is to rely on the supernatural “wisdom” or “perspicacity” of the people around. However, constantly pull yourself up with one simple question: “If these advisers are so smart, why they never make bets?” In fact, today there is not a single analyst who can tell you exactly who will win in one game or another. “DotA 2”, “FIFA”, “StarCraft 2”, “Counter-Strike” – each of them has its own characteristics, and in order to thoroughly understand them, you need to spend several hundred hours at the computer.

One-click win

What else can be done to increase the likelihood of winning by betting on the e-sports event? At a minimum – refrain from betting on those games about which you have no idea. You would not bet on football without even knowing the rules of the game, would you? Why then this principle is not transferred to computer games? A huge number of users who want to make a bet, still perceive e-sports as something frivolous, giving infantilism. So if you want to get a steady income, then think about specialization. As you know, fundamental knowledge in one area is often much more preferable than a general idea about everything in the world. Want to win by making big bets on StarCraft 2? Install this game and play it online for a month trying to win.

Can I win by betting on e-sports? Yes. This is not as difficult as it may seem, but not as easy as it is commonly believed. Today, thousands of people earn their livelihood who simply understand the games and know which team can win and when even if all the odds are against it.

If you want to win, you should take eSports as seriously as more traditional sports and study the subject. You can’t just go to the bookmaker’s website, make five bets at random, get your billion dollars and go live in Hawaii – it’s just as hard work as any other business.

And finally, remember: to win, you need, oddly enough, always use your head, and not someone else’s opinion.

Room For Two? Esports and the Casino Industry

For years, online casinos and Esports have often been treated and viewed as very different activities, specifically in regards to the demographic that enjoys them. While there are many purists that will either be supportive of Esports or casinos, the time to bring the two together is now.

How Esports Can Save the Casino Industry

Traditional casino games have been around for decades, so it’s hard for many to come to terms with the fact that they may no longer be a leader in the recreation industry. While over 40 million tourists travel to Vegas every year, it’s important to consider that tourists are visiting for other reasons beyond heading to a brick and mortar casino.

Online casino games continue to gain in popularity, especially as the technology and other features improve and evolve, but traditional casino games in iconic places like Las Vegas are at risk of losing a demographic.

At the peak of in-house casinos (think the “Rat Pack”) the demographic of players were young and middle-aged men with money to spend and a desire to gamble. Today, that same desired demographic is drawn towards Esports. According to research, Esports viewership is expected to reach 300 million.

In the efforts to stay on the map and attracting the desired demographic, many Nevada casinos have made changes to make their venues, such as building Esports arenas and offering cash prizes.

Shining a Positive Light on an Underdog Industry

While the increase of popularity in Esports is (and will) do wonders for the casino industry, it also allows people to take a closer (and more positive) look at the video gaming industry. For decades, video gaming hasn’t always been supported and was often viewed as a “lazy” sport.

With celebrities, like Drake, getting on board, supporting the Esports industry, and investing in venues for Esports betting, there’s a good chance that the industry will become even more popular.

How Does Esports Fit in With the Casino Industry?

With Esports becoming more popular and Nevada casinos making changes to meet the wants and needs of Esports fans, it may seem that Esports is taking over rather than partnering with the casino industry.

One of the attractive aspects of Esports is that players (and viewers) can bet on players and in many ways, this is no different from traditional gambling. Research reveals that nearly half of video gamers over the age of 25 enjoy in-game betting.

Cash-betting on skill-based video games is legal in 38 states, and if casino operators decide not to join in, they’re likely missing out on a very lucrative opportunity (some researchers estimate nearly $13 billion is bet annually on Esports).

If the casino industry makes an effort to understand Esports and its main demographic, they will continue to see success and growth for years to come. While there’s nostalgic charm of iconic in-house casinos, there’s no reason why even the oldest and most beloved casino establishments can’t play a role in partnering with Esports.

Fallout 76 update 1.20 patch notes:

NUCLEAR WINTER DESIGN CHANGES

ITEMS AND LOOT
  • Underarmor: Players can now favorite one Underarmor in the Atomic Shop for use in Nuclear Winter, in addition to one Headwear item and one Outfit.
  • Automatic Combat Rifles: Can now be found in Small Supply Crates rather than pre-existing containers in the world.
  • Submachine Guns: Can now be found in Medium Supply Crates rather than Small Supply Crates.
  • Supply Crates: Adjusted Supply Crate density in a few areas where more Crates were spawning than intended.
PERKS
  • Dead Man Sprinting: This Perk previously was not applying its effects correctly and has been redesigned. Dead Man Sprinting now causes Action Points to drain 25% slower while under 30% HP.
OVERSEER PROGRESSION
  • Terminals: New entries have been added to ZAX Terminals that can be unlocked by reaching Overseer Rank 100.
USER INTERFACE
  • Tutorials: A “More Info” button has been added to the Nuclear Winter Perk Card menu, which can be used to re-open the Perk Card tutorial.

ADVENTURE AND SURVIVAL BUG FIXES

ART AND GRAPHICS

  • Power Armor: Sections of the Power Armor Chassis are no longer visible through the Black Rider Power Armor paint, and the paint’s headlamp eye color has been adjusted.
  • Power Armor: Pieces of rebar no longer obstruct the player’s view when wielding a heavy weapon in first-person perspective while wearing Power Armor with the Inferno Mk1, Mk2, or Mk3 paint.
  • Shadows: Addressed an issue that could cause character shadows to appear blocky.
  • Weapons: The First Responder’s Pump-Action Shotgun Paint will now correctly apply to Silencer mods.

C.A.M.P., CRAFTING, AND WORKSHOPS

  • Exploit: Addressed an exploit that could allow items in Player Vending Machines to be duplicated.
  • Signs: Fixed an issue preventing the Red Rocket Mega Sign from taking damage from subsequent player attacks after the first.

PERKS

  • Gun Fu: V.A.T.S. no longer automatically closes after killing an enemy while the Gun Fu Perk Card is equipped.

PERFORMANCE AND STABILITY

  • Performance: Improved C.A.M.P. load times when connecting to a world and after Fast Traveling.
  • Stability: On PC, attempting to Fast Travel from one active Event to another no longer sometimes causes the game client to crash.

QUESTS AND EVENTS

  • Operation Tidy: Players can once again speak to Scout Leader Pompy to start the Operation Tidy Daily Quest.

USER INTERFACE

  • Character Creation: Being removed from a world due to inactivity while creating a new character no longer causes portions of the UI to disappear upon joining a new world.

NUCLEAR WINTER BUG FIXES

ART AND GRAPHICS

  • Graphics: Grasses beyond the sear line no longer appear to fade out when a player spawns nearby.
  • Graphics: Fixed a graphical corruption that could appear on the Storm wall during Storm constrictions.
  • Lighting: Vault 51’s interior is now a bit brighter, which should make it easier to see who is practicing their boxing skills on you before a match begins.

C.A.M.P.S

  • Blueprints: Players can now place Blueprints in Nuclear Winter that normally require the Home Defense or Science Perks in other game modes. However, all objects a Blueprint contains that require those Perks, such as Turrets or Traps, will be removed on placement during a Nuclear Winter match.
  • Blueprints: Perk requirements, such as Home Defense or Science, no longer appear when attempting to place a Blueprint in Nuclear Winter.

CREATURES

  • Mirelurks: No longer get stuck in the trees after spawning at New River Gorge Resort.

HAZARDS

  • Rad Barrels: Now more consistently apply Rads to nearby Candidates.

PERKS

  • Frog Legs: The Frog Legs Perk Card description has been updated to “Jump significantly higher” to better match its effect description in the Pip-Boy.
  • Ground Pounder: Now correctly increases Automatic Rifle reload speeds.

ITEMS

  • Holotapes: Vault 51 Holotapes can no longer be placed in containers.
  • Item Spawns: Removed a location where it was possible for a Bowie Knife to spawn, as this weapon is not intended to be available in Nuclear Winter.
  • Magazines: Flipped over a few Magazines that previously appeared face-down.
  • Magazines: The duration of the AP reduction effect applied by “Scouts Life #8” has been increased from 30 minutes to 1 hour, which is consistent with other Nuclear Winter Magazine effects.
  • Power Armor: Looking away from a downed teammate while attempting to revive them no longer causes the reviving player to exit their Power Armor.
  • Power Armor: Holding to revive a teammate while wearing Power Armor no longer causes the controls to become unresponsive.

PERFORMANCE AND STABILITY

  • Disconnects: Implemented an improvement to reduce cases where players may be disconnected from a server immediately after finding a Nuclear Winter match.
  • Disconnects: Repeatedly adding and removing players from a team no longer cause those players to be disconnected.
