Call of Duty: WWII Broken Quickdraw Fix Is Something That Shouldn’t Even Exist

If you’ve played past Call of Duty games before, then you know how the Quickdraw gun attachment works. You press the aim-down-sights (ADS) button, and you snap to it as fast as possible in the game. Unfortunately, the gun attachment is bugged in Call of Duty: WWII since the beta, and has carried over to the final version of the game.

Well, people seems to have found a fix! Albeit, one that shouldn’t even be needed in the first place. Check out the two videos below for it. One from YouTuber TheXclusive Ace, and another from pro gamer “Parasite.”

According to TheXclusiveAce, a “simple” fix is not breaking sprint when aiming down sights, pull back on the left analog stick slightly or stop moving forward, and then engage your ADS, and then fire.

There’s another fix, and that involves using the Gunslinger Basic Training skill, and hip fire into ADS as you’re coming out of sprint. Watch the videos above to see how it looks like.

Honestly, it’s a fix that shouldn’t be there in the first place, no? Let’s hope Sledgehammer Games includes the fix for it in next week’s patch.

Don’t forget to check out our COD: WWII review where we talk extensively about multiplayer, and give our feature a go where we list down the most important multiplayer fixes Sledgehammer needs to do.

Path of Exile Update Lays Groundwork for Upcoming Expansion

Even though War for the Atlas, the upcoming expansion for Path of Exile is scheduled for a December 8 release, it appears the studio behind the Action-RPG, Grinding Gear Games, is already prepping the ground work for the expansion.

A new update for Path of Exile is now available on the PC platform. While the changelog, which you can view below, is rather small, it should be noted that the rather large patch file is to ensure the Path Of Exile player base won’t have to download large files come December 8.

3.0.3b change log

  • Fixed various issues with Templar armour visuals introduced in 3.0.3.
  • Fixed various visual issues with War for the Atlas supporter pack portals.
  • Fixed sizing issues with War for the Atlas portrait frames when viewed in 4k resolution.
  • Fixed clipping issues with the Seeker Cloak.
  • Fixed a client crash with the low mana tutorial.

New patch aside, the past few days  for Grinding Gear Games has also been quite busy, as they’ve been showcasing some of the new content that will go live once War for the Atlas is available. The studio is showcasing a new boss that can be found in act 9, Shakari ,and revealing numerous changes to corpse skills.

Expect more news regarding Path of Exile soon, as details of the Abyss league is set to be revealed sometime this week.

Titanfall 2 Upcoming Update Includes New Elite Weapon Warpaints and More

Developer Respawn Entertainment has written a new blog post detailing the Titanfall 2 upcoming update that will see new weapon warpaints, a few gameplay tweaks and more.

Called “Harvest Time,” the next Titanfall 2 update will shoot out next week on November 28. The weapons getting new warpaints for this upcoming patch will be the Flatline, Volt and Alternator SMGs, the R-101 carbine, and Flatline rifles, and the Softball and EPG-1 launchers. You can check out the new weapon skins here.

Patch Notes

Patch notes for this month are small, but it’s a few things that you guys asked for and we agreed with. This month’s patch notes are as follows:

  • All advocate gifts are now purchasable with credits
  • Upcoming featured modes: Nitro Mixtape, Nitro FFA
  • Fixed an issue where cloaked enemies look like they have a mosaic overlay instead of being cloaked when a player is embarked in a titan

Respawn also explained the reasoning behind the last patch Titanfall 2 got. According to the studio, it made the changes to shake “up the meta,” since it was noticing the grapple hook ability was the most used one to the point that it made players to give the other tacticals a chance.

In the last patch, we had a multitude of changes from Arc Grenades, RSPN 101/201 Weapons, pilot abilities and more. The idea behind these changes was to keep the game fresh by shaking up the meta.

The most notable change was to Grapple. This has been the most used tactical ability to the point that we felt it was causing players to not give the other tacticals much of a chance. With that, we decided to remove a charge on the Grapple to bring it more inline with the other tacticals. We knew this change would be risky, but we wanted to evaluate if the impact of this change could encourage a more diverse meta versus playing it safe. We are continuing to monitor this change and will provide an update on it next month.

Now on to the change for the Mozambique and Wingman Elite pistols from secondaries to primaries. We saw a decent pool of players who enjoyed using these as primary weapons and hardly touched the actual primaries. Thus why these specific weapons were chosen. Because they would become primary, they would be under powered compared to the rest so we buffed them to legitimize the users who enjoy this style of play.

You can check the complete blog post from Respawn right here, where the studio also reveals 10 new banners that can be earned by players.

We’ll be sure to alert players once the patch is out next week.

Call of Duty: WWII Review – Boots Meet Ground

Note that with MP1st being a multiplayer-focused site, the major focus of the review is the multiplayer, though we do touch on the other modes and consider them in the overall score.

Call of Duty: WWII is the franchise’s venerable return to its boots-on-the-ground formula that has made it the biggest video game property since Modern Warfare. Now, the question is, is it a triumphant return or does it fail to trudge through all the mud and grime? The answer is, it’s a mixture of both.

In Call of Duty: WWII’s single-player, you star as “Red Daniels,” a grunt helping the US army take out Nazis. Sure, it’s a bit more nuanced than that, but for the most part, it’s a familiar trek with copious amounts of setpieces, banter, and of course, violence.

Prepare to see limbs severed, heads blown off in gruesome fashion. Thankfully, Sledgehammer didn’t put in gore and dismemberment for the sake of it, which would have cheapened the overall effect.

New and Old Mixed In

If you play every Call of Duty campaign that comes out every year, then there’s a lot in COD: WWII that will feel quite familiar  — for better or for worse. I applaud Sledgehammer for trying something new with your  character’s health not regenerating and instead relying on med packs (remember those in FPS’?), and that’s just one of the few changes it made.

Unique to COD: WWII is how your squad actually helps you out by giving med packs, ammo, spotting enemies and more. Once you see your squad’s meter fill up, you can go up to them (even in the heat of combat) and get some help. It’s a nice gameplay mechanic that makes you more invested in your squad, rather than going solo and finding ammo and other stuff in the levels themselves.

Another “new” feature is how challenging the campaign is. Aside from the omission of self-regenerating health, enemies are sharper shots in COD: WWII than in previous COD campaigns. I was playing through the normal difficulty and was surprised to see my character bite the dust a few times. It’s definitely a step in the right direction since it doesn’t border on cheap, or annoying, and helps keep you on your toes.

As I’ve mentioned previously, there’s a lot of setpieces that happen within the 12 chapters available, and it’s what players expect in your standard COD campaign. These are sometimes marked with QTE (quick-time events) that should be a breeze to accomplish, though it does break up the monotony from time to time.

Another “old is new” feature is the Zombies mode, or rather, Nazi Zombies mode. While it’s a bit more horror oriented now than what Treyarch does, it’s still more of what people love. If you’re not a fan of Zombies mode in past COD games, I doubt this will convert you, but if you are, then this third pillar mode will more than scratch that itch.

Back to Basics

We’ve covered a ton of stuff regarding COD: WWII’s multiplayer in our beta impressions, but now that we’ve played a lot of it, we’ve noticed a few good things, and some not-so-good things which we’re sort of conflicted up to now.

First off, prepare for a lot of changes to some of the core mechanics…even if some of them didn’t need it. Gone is Treyarch’s much-loved Pick 10 system for perks. Heck, the whole perks system itself has been replaced by the often-limiting Basic Training system Sledgehammer implemented.

If you want to experiment, you’ll have to do so in a more limited way. You can’t really mix and match Basic Trainings other than with what each Division’s abilities are, which are tailored to specific play styles and weapons.

Want to rock a silenced assault rifle? Nope, not possible. What about trying trying go all noob tubes and grenades? Sure, but lots of compromises are in the way to make it work, which might frustrate some fans. I’m not sure, but one of the possible reasons for the massive change in perks and how it works could be Sledgehammer’s way of”forcing” players to try out different weapons and play styles, and not have everyone using the same stuff. One can argue that every COD games has that issue, but it’s still prevalent in COD: WWII, and that’s not going away any time soon, I think.

Related Call of Duty: WWII Reading:

War Changes

While Sledgehammer might have reined in the perks system, it did add a new match mode to the franchise in “War,” and it’s fantastic. For those who aren’t familiar with the mode, it’s all about objective play where kill/death ratios don’t matter, and there’s no scorestreaks.  Think of it as like Battlefield 1’s Operations, but in a smaller scale and it’s purely infantry-based.

War is balanced enough that not one side has an advantage, and it doesn’t overstay its welcome. Matches don’t last too long, and the action is fast, but not to the point like it’s a round of team deathmatch. War is such a fun mode that I often found myself playing it over franchise mainstays like TDM and Domination. Don’t be surprised if the mode creeps in to other Call of Duty titles moving forward.

However, there is a a dark cloud in all of this though, and that’s the maps. Due to War mode’s sprawling, and expanding maps (of which there are three), there are only nine maps available for the rest of the other modes. Unless my memory is failing me, that’s the lowest number of maps available at launch for any COD game ever. Sure, one can argue that there’s really 12 maps in the game, but given we can’t play the War maps in other modes, that argument will surely fall on deaf ears.

Compounding the issues with maps are the map design.  While not every COD game has top-tier maps, some of the design choices in COD: WWII’s are, well, baffling. There’s USS Texas which feels like a re-skinned and inferior version of Treyarch’s Hijacked, Gibraltar which gives one side a big vantage point advantage in Domination, and possibly the worst one of all, Gustav Cannon — a big map, with one big centerpiece that’s perfect for sniping…and not much else. It feels like Sledgehammer Games tried its best to deviate from Treyarch’s three-lane formula, that if forsake balance, and sound map design just to be different.

For now, we don’t know whether Sledgehammer will roll out more multiplayer maps aside from the ones that’ll be available in the Season Pass. If this is it though, base game owners will be in for a long 12 months.

Tools of the Trade

While I’ve managed to gripe about the perks system and the maps in COD: WWII, I did enjoy my time playing the multiplayer. Sledgehammer nailed the gunplay the series is known for (lag notwithstanding), and the gun balance out of the gate is fine so far. While some might argue that the BAR is the end-all, be-all ultimate weapon, the same can be said the for the PPSH SMG, STG assault rifle, etc. I don’t know about you., but if people are saying all guns are overpowered, then that means it is balanced, right?

Another plus (for me, at least) is how scorestreaks aren’t the main focus of each match. In past CODs, it usually boiled down to which team managed to push out their scorestreaks first that decided the match. Not so in COD: WWII, Sledgehammer has drastically reduced the effectiveness of most ‘streaks, which means the focus now is on gunplay. Now, some might balk at that, but for me personally, giving the winning team/side more ways to win with a push of a button isn’t really on the fair side.

cod ww2 prestige

By Design

While we were playing COD: WWII extensively for review, there is one thing that has yet to be fully resolved until now and it’s Headquarters mode. This social space (think: Destiny 2’s Farm) has you interacting with players, watching Supply Drops being opened and more. It’s great in theory, but when it was working, I didn’t really felt the need to socialize other than jumping on to the next match.

For now though, HQ is still hit or miss, and I’ve yet to see anyone other than NPCs in mine, which is fine since I’d rather be in matches anyway. Speaking of Supply Drops, there is the constant loom of weapons only attainable in these RNG boxes, which always upsets the community — understandably so. With the recent Supply Drop leak, it seems it’ll run the gamut of sidearms to full blown weapons that might affect the gun and game balance.

Possibly the biggest gripe I have with COD: WWII’s multiplayer is how it’s different for the sake of being different. SHGames looks to have made a concerned effort to not follow Treyarch’s (or Infinity Ward’s) footsteps that it stumbles in some areas because of it.

Ultimately though, fans know what to expect from every year’s COD title, and COD: WWII is no different. It doesn’t do anything to offend, and does enough new things to keep things fresh, and the touch of new innovations such as Headquarters, the willingness to go back to boots on the ground are much appreciated.

Make no mistake: COD: WWII is a Call of Duty game. It looks like one, it feels like one, and it plays like one, too. Regardless if that’s a good or bad thing for you, it does do a lot of things right. From a value proposition, a full-fledged campaign, a deep multiplayer Zombies mode experience, and of course, multiplayer, makes it well worth the price of admission.

Score 8/10

Pros:

  • Boots to the ground is back! No walljumps!
  • Fresh ideas aplenty with Basic Training, Divisions, etc.
  • Gunplay focus is refreshing, gun balancing is spot-on so far

Cons:

  • Just nine multiplayer maps out of the box for main modes
  • Basic Training and Divisions system feels limiting compared to past titles
  • Predictable campaign

You Can Hire a Call of Duty: WWII Pro to Play the Game for You

In what is arguably the ultimate pay to win scheme, the website Bidvine is inviting gamers to hire Call of Duty pros to play the game and rank up quickly.

If you bought the latest title, but don’t have the time to grind towards a high rank, you can just plop down some cash and have someone else do it for you!

The prices are flexible, with premium costs added for additional camo unlocks, maintaining a specific K/D, and other particulars. However, Bidvine has given a rough estimate of around £15 ($20) per hour.

Here’s the advert:

Too many Prestige’s, not enough time? Are you looking for a professional Call of Duty Player to help you rank up?

Bidvine is now offering the easiest way to find and hire local Call of Duty Players! Take your rank & prestige to a new level by hiring a professional player, so they can play for you, making it easier to level up and enjoy the game to its fullest potential.

When you’re requesting Call of Duty Players on Bidvine, we’ll ask you a series of questions related to your preferences. First, we’ll ask how long you want your Call of Duty playing sessions to be. Times range from half an hour to unlimited, and it’s all up to you.

We’ll also ask you about your current rank, and what goals you’d like to reach, so our professional players can fulfil your gaming requirements.

Some objectives of Call of Duty that can be requested include:

– Improving rank within the game – including Prestige levels

– Unlocking gun camos and attachments

– Improving Kill-Death ratio

If you fancy hiring a pro player, then head here. Or, if you think you’re good enough, you can apply to be a “pro” here.

In other Call of Duty: WWII news, the Carentan map will soon be free for everyone to play for a limited time, COD Points are now live within the game, and watch these videos to learn how to make cool emblems.

Warface Battle Royale Mode Is Live, Features “Largest PvP Map Ever Seen”

Warface Battle Royale is now live on PC, bringing the latest every-man-for-himself craze to Crytek’s free-to-play shooter. If Fortnite isn’t doing it for you, then Warface may be worth a go!

Here’s the official Warface Battle Royale announcement, followed by a dedicated reveal trailer:

Warface has a broad variety of game modes available — some are more conservative and classic, suited to the 5-on-5 scenarios, whilst some others are more dynamic and perhaps even, arcade. With Battle Royale, we wanted to create something on the thin verge between the two, and here you have it: quick-paced combat with an element of the unknown — you never know which gun you’re going to get, with action taking place on the largest PvP map ever seen in the game.

MAIN FEATURES

– The game mode takes after the most classic scenario: each man for himself.

– Dynamic engagement, that always keeps you on the move — linger a minute too long and you’ll be caught outside the shield and left for dead.

– An enormous new map with plenty of areas to explore. No round will ever feel the same — you never know where you’re headed until the “Zone” hits.

– Plenty of achievements to unlock!

Will you be giving Warface Battle Royale a download and play? Let us know.

In other news, PUBG update 1.0 is available again for testing new weapons and vaulting, PSN’s Black Friday 2017 deals are live and looking good, and Call of Duty: WWII is opening up the Carentan map for everyone this weekend and also implementing double XP.

Latest Pokemon Go Update Teardown Reveals Bootup Time Improvements, Engine Upgrade & More

Following Pokemon Go update v0.83.1, which was released earlier today, the folks over at The Silph Road commenced their teardown of the latest patch. These teardowns provide much greater information than the official patch notes, and provide a better idea of what exactly has changed, and what could be coming in the future.

Here’s the official v0.83.1 patch notes:

– Added support and made optimizations for the iPhone X screen resolution.

– Removed support for devices running iOS 8.

– Resolved a bug causing error banners to remain visible until the app is restarted.

– Resolved a bug that prevented Trainers from powering up Pokémon to their max CP.

– Improved load times when you open the app.

– Various bug fixes and performance updates.

And here’s The Silph Road’s v0.83.1 teardown:

Optimizations

1. App Project Upgrade to Unity 2017.1 (For Real This Time)

v0.81.1 (two version ago) saw Pokemon GO upgrade to Unity v2017.1. Then we immediately saw an unprecedented roll-back.

This time, it looks like v2017.1 is back. This means performance improvements and, perhaps most notably, audio fixes for the volume management issue that plagued the older Unity3d engine versions.

2. New Asset Loading Optimizations

It appears a sweep of optimizations was added to this APK version in regards to the loading and requesting of assets. It appears that Pokemon sprite caching may have new optimizations such as LOAD_ONLY_IF_DIFFERENT.

Additionally, new caches have appeared for the Pokedex and inventory.

There is also an interesting new addition regarding SYNCHRONOUS vs ASYNCHRONOUS loading (which, for those unfamiliar means waiting til a request comes back before proceeding vs not waiting up and letting it come back whenever it comes back). Assets appear to have a loading policy attributed to them now.

See if you notice any differences in the Pokedex or other asset loading behaviors, travelers!

3. Bootup Load Time Optimizations

As identified in the patch notes, we do see several tweaks to help reduce the apps boot-up time – including new BootMetrics that appears to track retries, the time spent before loading the map, and the logo and splash screen times.

We’re glad to see these being monitored, and hope they have been reduced across all devices. Give it a try, and see how it performs for you, travelers.

Quality of Life Fixes

4. Accidental Button Press Fix

A new addition has appeared that apparently aims to reduce accidental button pressing. This may simply be a time delay between double taps. See if you can trigger it, travelers. 🙂

Internal Tools

5. New Buddy Pokemon Test Tool

This one was a surprise.

Interestingly, there appears to be a new internal tool for testing different buddy Pokemon out, complete with a GUI to swap between forms, genders, and shiny status.

No idea why this tool was necessary – but it may be an internal way to test out the Gen III pokemon and make sure they all look and work great as buddies.

Curiosities

These are both grasping at straws a bit, but we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention them. Buckle up!

6. New Import: Google S2 Geometry Library

A new library has appeared in the APK that contains many functions useful in S2 cell calculations and lookups. S2 cells, for those unfamiliar, are a Google invention for spatial indexing – particularly useful for ‘mapping’ space on the globe to a 1-dimensional index, which allows for very fast retrieval.

Niantic has sliced the globe into 2d “S2 cells” which enable them to rapidly and inexpensively query and catalog locations for anything on the spherical surface of the planet (think spawnpoints, etc).

What’s interesting about this inclusion is that it’s just been included now, after having been used on the server-side application since the game’s inception.

What might Niantic need client-side S2 cell geometry for?

We don’t know yet. But for those interested in digging into this library, here’s a java implementation. The DataStructures and MultiMap packages were the ones included.

This could turn out to be nothing, or it could hint towards future functionality. But that it’s been added to the clientside APK has us interested. 🙂

7. Caching … Battle Parties?

Amongst metadata regarding enabling local disk caching, an interesting naming decision was made:

MaxNumberLocalBattleParties

We couldn’t help but be reminded that in v0.67.1 the concept of “Battle Teams” were added to the APK, complete with the ability to name teams and error messages when your team had a fainted member and you tried to use the team.

Could this maximum allowed ‘Battle Parties’ be a sign that this feature isn’t fully in the icebox? It’s not the exact verbiage (though this is not the first time Niantic would have renamed things in the APK. See forts = gyms, and troy disks = lures). And why ‘local’ battle parties? We don’t have an answer at this point.

But the thought gets us excited; battle teams would be a fantastic quality of life improvement, and fun new dimension for hand-picking and building our counter squads up for Raiding and general gym play. We’ll have to wait and see what future APKs hold!

Looks like there’s some exciting things to come! Click here to read The Silph Road’s “Parting Thoughts” on the teardown findings.
