Need for Speed Payback Update Races Out, Here’s What’s New

Ghost Games has a new Need for Speed Payback update race out. and there’s both a client-side update, and an actual patch. Called NFS Payback update 1.04 on the PlayStation 4, the patch is live on all platforms and close to 5GB!

Check out the NFS Payback patch notes below (via EA):

The Changes – Already Live

  • Decreased the time it takes for new parts to appear in Tune-Up shops, down from 30mins to 10mins.
  • Increased the amount of REP awarded by taking part in events.
  • Increased the amount of Bank awarded by taking part in events.
  • Bait crates now reward increased REP.
  • Bait crates now reward increased Bank.
  • Competing against a Roaming Racer will reward you with increased REP.
  • Competing against a Roaming Racer will reward you with increased Bank.
  • Increased rate in which parts are rewarded within Ranked Speedlists.
  • Air Suspension will now appear more frequently.
  • Slightly increased REP and Bank for finishing an event outside of first place.

The Changes – Coming in a Patch

  • Tune-up shops now stock higher quality parts.
  • Improved quality of cards from targeted rolls in the Tune-up Shops.
  • Increased the level on parts awarded from winning events.
  • Multiple fixes to Improve stability.
  • Improved game performance.

Racers should see a noticeable improvement in terms of being able to upgrade multiple cars. There’s a decrease time for parts within the tune-up shops to refresh, which has been decreased from 30 minutes to 10 minutes.

There’s also been changes to the way events, bait crates and roaming racers work. Completing any of these tasks will now grant you more in-game bank as well as more REP. The increase in winnings will allow you to purchase more cars, as well as parts. The increase in REP will have a side effect of awarding you more shipments, which in turn will lead to more bank, more part tokens and more vanity items.

Players in Ranked Speedlists will also notice an increased amount of parts being paid out. Win the Speedlist and you’re guaranteed a new part. We’ve also increased the frequency in which they are rewarded for simply playing in Speedlists.

If you notice anything else tweaked that’s not in the actual notes, let us know in the comments.

Star Wars Battlefront II Stuttering & HDR Issues Acknowledged by DICE

Star Wars Battlefront II has been heavily criticized these past few weeks, due mostly to its loot box and microtransactions systems. However, there other things that are objectively wrong with the title.

Over on Twitter, DICE producer Ali Hassoon acknowledged that the game has “stuttering” issues. He assures the community that the developers are “actively investigating” the problems, and asks players to “stay tuned”.

In addition to the stuttering issues, it seems the game’s HDR modes on both PlayStation and Xbox aren’t working as intended.

Community Manager “EA_David” responded to complaints about a “HDR bug” with a less hopeful response:

Thank you for the posts. It looks like this affects everone using HDR on the Xbox One X and PS4 Pro.

Unfortunately I don’t have any time estimate on a fix but hopefully we’ll have an update for you soon.

It would suck to have invested so much money into a HDR-supporting TV and then have a game like Battlefront II, which should look positively glorious, end up bugging out.

Have you experienced any issues with Battlefront II stuttering or the HDR mode? Let us know.

In other Star Wars Battlefront II news, Pokémon defeated it in the Japanese sales charts, a new update for the game is out and fixes UI issues, and we’ve detailed some tips and tricks that all players should know.

Player Builds Star Wars Battlefront II Credit Farming Robot

Star Wars Battlefront II rewards players based on time played, as opposed to performance and skill. This means that a player who does absolutely nothing all game, and a player who captures objectives and goes on rampages, receive the same amount of Credits.

Reddit user lowberg has taken advantage of Battlefront II‘s poor reward system by building a robot that keeps his avatar moving, preventing him from being kicked. He can leave the robot to do its work, grinding through  matches, and reaping the same rewards as those who are actually playing.

Here’s a photo of clever little bot:

Obviously, AFK is not the way the game is supposed to be played. Here’s hoping DICE soon implements new bonuses for players who perform well and earn wins… Otherwise, we might as well all be using these bots to get Credits for more loot boxes!

What do you make of this contraption?

In other Star Wars Battlefront II news, Pokémon defeated it in the Japanese sales charts, a new update for the game is out and fixes UI issues, and we’ve detailed some tips and tricks that all players should know.

PUBG Datamine Reveals Three New Weapons, Updated Desert Map Names & More

Dataminers are at it again, digging into the PUBG Test Server update to find hidden (potential) upcoming features.

bizzfarts is the miner behind today’s finds, posting three new weapon models and new desert map names to the PUBG subreddit.

New Weapons

Winchester 1894 (Lever-action rifle)

Rhino (Revolver)

Sawed-Off Double-Barrel Shotgun

Bonus Weapon

Sounds and UI icons for a flare gun have also been found. It isn’t clear if this will cause damage to enemy players, but I certainly hope so!

Flare Gun

In addition to these new weapons, bizzfarts also found a new version of the desert map minimap. The latest edition of the map has updated names, which sound a lot more final than the previous “Dirtbag”, “Zombie”, and whatnot.

Here’s an updated look at Valle Coronado (“Desert Map”):

What do you make of those leaked guns? Here’s hoping the flare gun can be used to set enemies alight!

In other PUBG news, the second 1.0 update test is live with new weapons, new screenshots of the desert map have been officially revealed, and new skins and colored parachutes were found in a datamine.

Victorian Gambling Commission: Loot Boxes Does Constitute Gambling

The loot box gambling fiasco continues. Australia’s Victorian Commission for Gambling and Liquor Regulation (VCGLR) has stated in a email that loot boxes constitute gambling.  This is after a Reddit user emailed regarding the legality of the loot boxes, which other bodies of government such as Belgium have announced investigations into.

Jarrod Wolfe, Strategic Analyst at VCGLR, mentioned in a lengthy email that the research is correct. and that loot boxes “constitute” gambling.

Your research and suppositions on the matter are correct; what occurs with ‘loot boxes’ does constitute gambling by the definition of the Victorian Legislation. Unfortunately where the complexity arises is in jurisdiction and our powers to investigate. Legislation has not moved as quick as the technology; at both State and Federal level we are not necessarily equipped to determine the legality of these practices in lieu of the fact the entities responsible are overseas.

Wolfe goes onto to state that the focus of his concerns rely “on the more predatory aspects related to “pay to win.”

[…] the idea that (genuine) progression in a game could be reliant on the outcome of a random number generator is at odds with responsible gambling and the objectives of our acts. More importantly the normalisation of gambling vernacular and mechanics targeted at vulnerable persons (minors), is not just morally reprehensible, but is also legally questionable.

While governing bodies in video games like the ESRB have said they do not believe loot boxes to be gambling, Wolfe mentions that “if an avenue of investigation or enforcement is found; then we will most definitely pursue it.”
