Borderlands 2 – Length of Campaign Revealed, Details on the ‘Badass System’

Borderlands 2, successor of the action packed RPG first-person shooter Borderlands by Gearbox Software, will boast a phenomenal 58-hour campaign. Yes, you read that right – 58 hours of content according to Gearbox’s VP of Marketing, Steve Gibson. And that’s just for one of the five character’s available.

In today’s first person shooter market, a 58 hour campaign is extremely impressive to say the least, when the norm in this day and age for this genre is to contain relatively short campaigns consisting of 10-13 hours max, like most AAA titles.

In an interview with GamerZines, Gibson also goes on to say that all of this will be on a PvE system and that the PvP aspect of the game is being scrapped due to it not being popular enough to stick around for the sequel. For those of you who enjoyed the PvP aspect in the Borderlands and wonder why they came to this conclusion, Gibson answers, also detailing what exactly will be taking its place.

It was hardly used, so what we invested in instead was the co-op stuff. Like the “Badass Ranking System” is kind of a measure of stick which says, ‘Look how awesome I’m doing in this world.’ So what we’ve invested in rather than Arena stuff is drop in/drop out split screen co-op, and being able to readjust your quest line a little to match up with other players.

To go into further detail of the Badass Ranking System and how it works, it  is essentially a feature that will net you points, or in this case, ‘Badass Points’ which can be converted to Badass Tokens. These points can be gained by doing death-defying feats, or simply Rambo’ing your way through Pandora’s many foes.

When you earn enough tokens, you will be able to permanently unlock stat-boosts for ALL of your characters in your profile. For example, some of these may include having a bigger grenade blast radius or upgrading the amount of damage your weapon deals.

Not only are these permanently unlocked on all the characters to your profile, but they are also stackable to each one, which will make it much easier if you were to start replaying the game on a new character.

For those who are still on the fence on this new feature and would rather not use it, the fine folks at Gearbox has stated that this can be turned off at any time you want to.

In case you missed our recent articles on the new game play featuring the revamped Sanctuary town and Stash feature, we got you covered. Also, make sure to check out the latest trailer released by Gearbox called ‘Wimoweh

Borderlands 2, is slated for a September 18th release on the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.

Battlefield 4 Leak Premeditated by EA, YouTuber Freddie Wong Infiltrates EA Headquarters

It was only a few days ago that we spotted a pretty darn big Battlefield 4 leak on EA’s Origin client, stating that access to a Battlefield 4 Beta would come with every pre-order of Medal of Honor: Warfighter Digital Deluxe Edition.

Like us, you might be wondering, how exactly did such a leak happen?

Well, leave it to pesky YouTubers like Freddie Wong to pre-maturely leak confidential information upon infiltrating the EA headquarters in Los Angeles. Check out how he accomplished his mission below.

[youtube id=”Mw7iVr5rWQE” width=”600″ height=”350″]

In all seriousness, it looks like the Battlefield 4 beta access leak was, in fact, premeditated by EA as a marketing campaign to build hype for the the official announcement which made its way to headlines today.

Make sure to vote in our new poll on the right side-bar asking whether or not you are excited about the recently announced Battlefield 4!

small-achiev-stockade

Stockade Domination – Be part of a squad match where your team eliminates the enemy in less than 2 minutes. (10 points, Bronze Trophy)

New weapons

Rifleman: F2000

(Ghost) F2000: 5.56x45mm Assault Rifle. Unlike many bullpup rifles, the F2000 features ambidextrous controls and a unique casing ejection system. Its compact design makes it highly maneuverable. It also features a high rate of fire, but recoil is easily controllable.

Rifleman: CZS805

(Bodark) S805: 5.56x45mm Assault Rifle. The S805 is a highly customizable gas operated modular rifle. Since the rifle is chambered in 5.56x45mm, recoil is very manageable when compared to other Bodark weapons.

Scout: JSG Type 05

(Bodark) Type 05: 9x19mm Submachine Gun. The Type 05 is a unique bullpup SMG with an integrated foregrip, which improves the weapon’s stability while on the move. The threaded barrel allows for the easy addition of a suppressor.

Scout: MP9

(Ghost) MP9: 9x19mm Submachine Gun. The MP9 is an extremely lightweight SMG. It features an integrated foregrip which helps improve the weapon’s stability while on the move. The unique appearance of the muzzle allows for the easy addition of a suppressor.

Engineer: OCP-11

(Bodark) OCP-11: 5.45x39mm Personal Defense Rifle. The OCP-11 or ‘Popov’ combines the durability and simplicity of Russian firearms design with the modularity of Western weapons.  The small round and large ammunition capacity allows for a high volume of controlled fire with relatively light recoil.

Engineer: Mk17

(Ghost) Mk17 PDW: 7.62x51mm Personal Defense Rifle. The Mk17 PDW is a highly customizable, short-barreled version of the SCAR-H. The more powerful 7.62x51mm ammunition hits targets harder, but increases felt recoil and results in a smaller magazine size.

Battlefield 4 is Official, Beta Will Be Available in Fall 2013

Last weekend, we reported on a leaked Battlefield 4 beta banner, which was removed by EA after a few hours. Today, EA and Danger Close released a brand developer commentary about the latest Medal of Honor: Warfighter multiplayer trailer. Ten seconds into the video, the following statement appears “Pre-Order Medal of Honor: Warfighter Limited Edition for Access to the Exclusive Battlefield 4 Beta,” which once again confirms pre-order access to the Battlefield 4 Beta.

[youtube id=”xCMt69GbHzw” width=”600″ height=”350″]

“The exclusive Battlefield 4 beta will be available in Fall 2013,” EA has added. Although,  “additional details regarding Battlefield 4 will be revealed at a later date.”  Frank Gibeau, President of EA Labels, stated, “Though Battlefield and Medal of Honor Warfighter each offer players a completely unique experience, they are united by their underlying technology base — Frostbite. These are two of the hottest shooters, coming together to deliver a one-two punch of action, intensity and shooter entertainment.”

Update: Beta has been confirmed to hit all three platforms, according to Warfighter’s Pre-Order Page. PS3 and Xbox 360 users will have access through the Limited Edition, which is Medal of Honor: Warfighter’s first print. PC users, however, will be able to have access through either the Origin-exclusive Deluxe Edition or the Limited Edition.

DICE’s next Battlefield game is now confirmed to be Battlefield 4, putting all the Bad Company 3 rumors to bed. Battlefield 4 is expected to release next year, which could also see the launch of next-gen consoles. Regardless of next-gen plans, Battlefield 4 should release on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 by the end of next year.

Halo 4 Could Become Xbox Live’s Most Active Title, Taking Down Call of Duty

The latest reports of 2012’s levels of anticipation hint at a shift in the Xbox Live activity leaderboard.

It’s no surprise that Call of Duty has dominated the top of Xbox Live’s most played titles for the past few years since the release of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare in 2007. What might come as a bit of a surprise, however, is that Halo 4 is currently beating out games like Treyarch’s upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops II as well as Assassin’s Creed 3 and Madden NFL 13 when it comes to this year’s levels of hype and anticipation, according to Nielsen Game Rank‘s latest stats.

How are these stats gathered? By “leveraging several key consumer metrics, including Awareness and Purchase Interest, into one overall score. That score was then compared to scores from all previous games released on the same platform at the same point in their release cycles, to determine the percentile ranking of the upcoming title,” according to Nielson.

Being an Xbox 360 exclusive, it might seem fitting that a title like Halo 4 would top the list, but we must remember that, to many, Call of Duty is still considered the staple Xbox 360 experience and it has the numbers and sales to back that up.

So, what would it mean if Halo 4 did manage to bring the FPS giant down a notch on the leaderboard? Not much really. Call of Duty will still break sales records and rake in the dough as it does on a yearly basis. However, while the Call of Duty franchise has stayed fairly consistent throughout the past few years, though it has been reported to show signs of stagnation, Halo 4 is getting a bit of a facelift what with new developers 343 Intustries taking the place of the highly praised folks over at Bungie. It’s hard not to get excited for a so-called “rebirth” of one of the Xbox 360’s most beloved franchises.

You can check out the full list of most anticipated titles this year below:

  1. Halo 4
  2. Call of Duty: Black Ops 2
  3. Assassin’s Creed 3
  4. Madden NFL 13
  5. Resident Evil 6
  6. Borderlands 2
  7. NCAA Football 13
  8. NBA 2K13
  9. Fable: The Journey
  10. Darksiders 2
  11. Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012)
  12. Far Cry 3
  13. Medal of honor: Warfighter
  14. NHL 13

As and Xbox 36o player, which title are you more looking forward to? Halo 4 or Call of Duty: Black Ops II? Let us know in the comments below!

Borderlands 2 – New Gameplay Video and Stash Feature Detailed

With the release of Borderlands 2 approaching it’s release date of September 18th, Gearbox Software shows off some brand new gameplay during this year’s Comic-Con event.

First off, we take a look at gameplay featuring a new and improved Sanctuary:

[youtube id=”6d91Zvujs5g” width=”600″ height=”350″]

Here’s a quick run down of this new video:

  • Cities like Sanctuary are more vivid and feel more alive then their counter-parts in Borderlands.
  • This time around, we will venture off and experience the many different terrains available on Pandora, such as jungles.
  • Characters from the first Borderlands are returning, such as Dr.Zed.
  • Handsome Jack is one of the main villains.

Since the release of Borderlands on October 20, 2009. fans have been pitching their ideas when it comes to improvements that could be implemented in the next installment of the series. Lucky, Gearbox Software has been listening and has announced a new feature making its way to Borderlands 2 called “Stash.”

Stash is a feature that allows players to share all of his/her loot and ultra rare weapons that they have collected during their journey on Pandora with all of their characters. This means that your powerful level 40 character can share some of it’s ultra rare weaponry with their level 2 weakling to make the task of killing enemies found on Pandora much easier.

In case you missed, here’s a look at Borderlands 2 recent “Wimoweh” trailer.

Borderlands 2 is available for pre-order now, at your favorite retailer, and is set to release on the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on September 18th.

Mass Effect 3: Earth’s New Multiplayer Platinum Difficulty Has Even BioWare Beat

Mass Effect 3: Earth‘s new Platinum difficulty is hard. So hard, in fact, that even employees at BioWare, creators of the Mass Effect franchise, are having a tough time making it to the final waves.

“Platinum is so hard that only a handful of people at the office itself have ever beat it,” told BioWare’s Mike Gamble to GameSpot at this year’s Comic Con in San Diego.

Since launch, Mass Effect 3’s multiplayer quickly became known for its intense levels of difficulty as players traversed into the silver and gold challenges only to realize the amount of skill and know-how that it takes to succeed. However, Gamble admits, “we know that the players have been getting better and better since we launched,” so the time is nigh to give these fine folks a greater challenge.

Players up for the headache will now notice a mix of powerful foes teaming up as they make their way through the Platinum difficulty. Banshees and Phantoms are a pain-in-the-behind on their own. Now, imagine both on the battlefield at the same time.

Luckily, BioWare made sure that many of the newly added N7 classes come equipped with the tools necessary and the added agility needed to avoid danger. “You’ll notice that the Adept and Infiltrator classes are all over the place. The rolling and the diving and whatnot is very, very quick compared to some of the other classes. There’s also a teleport option for some of the classes,” mentions Gamble.

If you’ve yet to see any gameplay, make sure to check out Mass Effect 3: Earth footage of Firebase Vancouver, London and Rio in these three videos.

You can also check out the recent Comic Con footage below!

[youtube id=”9-trO6K-iuE” width=”600″ height=”350″]

Mass Effect 3: Earth drops tomorrow, July 17th, for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 at the price of zero dollars.

Black Ops II – Treyarch Respects Your Play Style, More on Audio Design For Competitive Gamers

Treyarch’s Studio Head Mark Lamia discusses improvements making their way to Black Ops II’s sound design and how your play style will be respected in the highly anticipated multiplayer.

Speaking to Jeff Schine during a recent Roll Call episode on Elite TV wrapping up this year’s E3, Lamia detailed the improvements that the Treyarch team will be making in the audio department to better compliment your home theater system or gaming headsets. This includes “the audio landscape, the weapons and the way they sound in the different environments,” explains Lamia. He continues, mentioning that “all the care and attention that’s being taken for that is so critical. We’re doing mixing for the different headsets, for all the different types of home theater systems that you guys have. Really been paying attention.”

He adds, “we know it’s important, not only for people at home, but for people who compete. We’re seeing this phenomena with Esports out in the world. We’re paying attention to that phenomena and we think Call of Duty has a very important part in that world, not only from the technology that we’re creating, but our level design and how we’re setting up our games so that those people who like to compete are going to have a great competitive experience.”

This falls in line with previous statements made by Lamia when he previously detailed matchmaking improvements intended to create a better experience for both vets and newcomers in Black Ops II.

However, with the wide array of players that the Call of Duty franchise already houses, plus the influx of new faces bound to show up this November 13th, how can Treyarch be sure to make everyone happy? Lamia states one way is to respect everyone’s play style and to accomodate for that.

He explains, “we know there’s a lot of you guys out there – everyone from the casual and beginner player to the most advanced. Respecting each of your play styles, we are giving a hardcore look at all of our core systems in the game and we are making sure that no matter what kind of play style you have, you’re going to be able to play that inside Call of Duty: Black Ops II.” Interestingly, this makes the recently rumored point allocation system in Black Ops II’s multiplayer seem all the more likely.

Are you looking forward to more audio improvements to Black Ops II? What do you think Treyarch has planned in order to accomodate your play style better in the multiplayer?

Activision Applies For Black Ops II Trademarks, Including ‘There’s a Soldier in All of Us’

Activision has recently applied for a few Black Ops II-related trademarks, according to Fusible. The trademarks include the following:

The Roman Numeral II

  • Obviously, the number “2” in the Black Ops II logo is in roman numerals.

The Future is Black

  • First tagline used for the game was “The Future is Black”, as featured in the premiere trailer.

There’s a Soldier in All of Us

  • We’re not really sure what to make of this one. However, we know that the multiplayer reveal should be next month, and “There’s a Soldier in All of Us” was used as the tagline of a live action trailer to promote the multiplayer component in the original Black Ops.

New Exciting Modern Warfare 3 Custom Game Mode – ‘Money in The Denk’

With the success of AllorNothing and other community-inspired game modes, Infinity Ward is looking to feature other modes in Modern Warfare 3 in the upcoming weeks. While Candice Capen posted a poll last month featuring  modes that Infinity Ward believes players would interested in*, there are still other modes made by the community that Infinity Ward is considering as well.

Take for example, ‘Money in The Denk’, a mode crafted by YouTuber , is making the rounds in the community as one of the more exciting new custom modes in Modern Warfare 3.

A video introducing the mode:

We got in touch with TheDenk earlier today to learn that the mode is currently being consideration at Infinity Ward. We will keep you posted if ‘Money in The Denk’ makes its way to public matches.

Here’s how you set up the mode in private matches:

*The poll ended two days ago, the top three most requested modes are:

  1. Snipers only/No Snipers (41%)
  2. MLG Rules/Competitive mode (32%)
  3. Assassin, support streak, deathstreak, blind eye free (12%)

In total, there were 14,491 votes casted.

Modern Warfare 3 – Elite Clan Challenges Page Turns Up

According to a forum post by MP1st reader Moriarty1975, the long awaited Clan Challenges feature now can be seen on Elite. Catch the images below, which you can view yourself by changing the URL on one of the clan operations from “/event/” to “/challenges/”.

It seems that the “Challenges” will go live officially at a later point, but as Moriarty’s find suggests, the feature is not far off. Beachhead recently stated “Clan Challenges will be coming this summer. Once QA on the feature is finished, we’ll be able to provide a release date.”

Thanks Keshav and Jon for all the help!
