MW3 Collection 2 Announced, Face Off Game Mode, Two Free Maps to All, Upcoming Elite Drops, and More

The team behind Modern Warfare 3 has detailed DLC plans for this month on Xbox 360. In addition to two new spec ops missions and one multiplayer map, a new mode has been revealed. The new mode is called “Face Off,” and is a one-on-one or two-on-two deathmatch mode that can only be played on specific maps coming this month.

There are four maps designed for Face Off. The first two are Aground and Erosion, which will be available to everyone  on Xbox 360 for free on May 15th, other platforms will follow later.

Another two Face Off maps, Getaway and Lookout, will release on the 15th for Elite. Also, Elite players will be able to download a brand new multiplayer map set in Dubai, titled Oasis. On that day, Elite players will also get two new spec ops missions, Iron Clad and Killswitch, the achievements of which were leaked recently.

Collection 2, which releases on May 22 for Xbox 360, will pack in:

  • Three multiplayer maps: Oasis, Sanctuary, and Foundation
  • Two spec ops missions: Iron Clad and Killswitch
  • Two Face Off Maps: Getaway and Lookout

Speaking to Eurogamer, Modern Warfare 3 executive producer Mark Rubin shed some light on why Face Off will be introduced. He explained, “Normally in itself one-on-one isn’t particularly creatively innovative, but what we’ve done is design the maps deliberately for this style of play. In normal map development you have large maps that have long sight lines, then when you make smaller maps you shorten the sight line – the engagement distance becomes smaller when the map becomes smaller.”

“But with these Face-Off maps, because it’s not six-on-six, we’ve made the sight lines longer for the size of the map that it is. You actually end up engaging quicker and having a more exciting experience on the map. You still get a really new feel and experience out of the gameplay; not just the heavy, frantic experience you would get out of a normal multiplayer match. You get more tension build-up on these smaller maps,” he concluded.

Here’s the breakdown video from IGN:

Modern Warfare 3 Prestige Levels 16 to 20 Added to PC, Soon for PS3 and Xbox 360

Yesterday, Modern Warfare 3 players on PC were treated to a long-overdue DLC bundle, Collection 1. The DLC brought along a patch that added community playlists among other changes. The patch notes haven’t been made public at the time of writing. However, one obvious change is the addition of prestige levels 16 through 20.

A few months ago, Infinity Ward added prestige levels 11-15 to the PC version of Modern Warfare 3 along with prestige emblems for levels 16 to 20, which lead us to believe that another 5 prestige levels were on the cards. PS3 and Xbox 360 received the first extra 400 ranks within a few weeks after PC.

Currently, the highest prestige level on consoles is 15. Now that another five prestige levels were added to PC, we expect consoles to follow suit soon as it was the case with prestige levels 11 to 15.

Thanks to everyone that sent this in!

Starhawk Has Officially Launched, All Map Packs Will Be Free

For those of you who have been waiting for Starhawk, wait no further. As of today, Starhawk is in stores all over North America, on the 13th in Europe.

Here’s the official launch trailer

[youtube id=”64PTsyzCqVs” width=”600″ height=”350″]

And here’s some good news for those who are going to buy (or still deciding). Remember how Warhawk had a bunch of paid map packs available? Well, according to Dylan Jobe on the PSBlog, these “paid” map packs divided the community up. Well since they have now realized that, the team has decided that all future map packs will be absolutely free of charge. That means you won’t be paying a dime to play any new maps. Though they did confirm that they will have some sort of paid DLC, however they won’t be map related.

The first map pack will be on the swampy world of Cypress. Down below is just some early art work of the planet.

Also for those who were settling for either renting or borrowing the Starhawk there is some bad news. Sony has confirmed a while back that they plan on having an online pass for every first party title, Starhawk is no exception. I can confirm this as well that there is an online pass bundled in every new copy of the game.

Modern Warfare 3 DLC “Collection 1” Out Now for PC

With the lack of Elite on the platform and some complications with Collection 1, Modern Warfare 3 players on PC haven’t received any DLC since the game’s launch in November 2011, until today.

Modern Warfare 3 Collection 1 is now available on Steam, and will set you back $14.99. The bundle packs in four maps, Piazza, Liberation, Overwatch, and Black Box along with two new spec ops missions, Negotiator and Black Ice.

In addition to Collection 1, the team behind Modern Warfare 3 has added community playlists, Infected and FFA Gunplay.

Here’s the trailer of the collection (360 version), and the list of new achievements.

[Update] Are These Leaked Black Ops 2 Screenshots Real?

Update: It has been reported that these images could be modified screens of DUST 514 and, therefore, could quite possibly be fake. The same YouTuber, zevodesign, “leaked” this “Black Ops 2” image below which is straight from the DUST 514 trailer. Consider these debunked.

Fake Black Ops 2

Thanks to Josh and many other readers for the info!

Original Story: If Black Ops 2 was a boat, it would be sunk in matter of seconds what with the number of leaks it has suffered in the past few weeks, and we still have a whole six months to go until its release. The last leak gave fans a peek at what some of the menu items in Black Ops 2 might look like, revealing a Zombies “Story Mode” as well as the campaign menu and some multiplayer perks.

We’ve compiled a number of more recent leaks below YouTuber zevodesign showing off what looks like some of the multiplayer menus as well as screens of both zombies, single and multiplayer. Though many of these images share the same, corroborating characteristics, keep in mind that all of these images were leaked by “designers,” meaning that they could simply be cleverly photoshopped. It’s hard to tell with the quality of the images we’re getting here.

However, we figured that we’ll let you have a look for yourself and decide. Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

Multiplayer:

This image below, posted by YouTuber mitadesigns shows what looks to be a screen of Black Ops 2’s multiplayer. However, the weapon featured in this image is the exactly the same as the weapon from Blacklight Retribution, proving it fake. I would recommend caution regarding any further leaks from mitadesigns.

BF3 CM on More Frequent Patches: “They Do Make Sense In Theory,” Still No ETA on M26 Dart Fix

If there is one thing that DICE may have learned about their community during the post-launch cycle of Battlefield 3, it is that they want smaller and more frequent patches. That is, not to say that the’ve been cheap on the patching process. The last mammoth of a patch alone almost turned BF3 into a different game. However, it’s the wait between patches that can be almost unbearable at times, especially when having to put up with awful glitches like the one plaguing the M26 DART underbarrell attachment, rewarding players with instant kills at even unreasonable distances.

Global community manager, Daniel “zh1nt0” Matros, discusses DICE’s patching process with Battlefield 3 fans in a recent AMA on Reddit.

When asked if DICE would ever consider patching in smaller and more frequent doses, Matros agreed that “they do make sense in theory.” However, senior gameplay designer, Alan Kertz commented on the limitations of patching more frequently before, stating that it’s “not possible due to the overhead of the patch process and the interdependency of patch fixes.” Matros continued, “If we compare it to how we patched 2142 last time that went through combat testing, that took much longer time to do. I’m more for open patch testing and such. I also would like to see combat testing back in action but that is something I have to speak with the team about.”

With the fairly negative reaction to DICE’s tweaks to the suppression mechanic in the last patch, many wonder why DICE did not consult the community before-hand in order to avoid such mishaps. Matros explains, “because if you send out a suppression update on a blog or whatever, you will get many different responses. Sending it out as a patch update requires time, resources and downtime just for a test.” However, there are other alternative’s to putting a patch through its paces post-release. Matros talks of the concept of ‘Combat Testing,’ stating, “I believe Combat Testing was a great way of testing things. Combat Testing was a community based group that used to handle pre-update stuff for us.. Great people too.” Hopefully this is something DICE could implement once again in the near future.

Some fans speculate that perhaps management of the relatively new Frostbite 2 engine is what is causing the delay between patches. Matros couldn’t get into details but he mentioned “it’s not only just the Frostbite engine.” He added that “BF2 had long intervals between the updates. So did BF2142, BC1, BC2 and so forth.” However, he assures fans that DICE is taking the feedback to heart. “I’ll leave the priority listing for the patch group I’m working with but I hear you loud and clear. More frequent patches and hotfixes,”

As for the M26 DART glitch, Matros made it clear that “it’s in testing and the goal is to have it fixed. No ETA on rollout.”

Do you think we could be seeing more frequent patches from DICE in the future?

Battlefield 3 Ships 15 Million Copies, Taking a “Very Significant Share” from COD, EA Claims

During an earnings call yesterday, EA highlighted the growth of the Battlefield series, and EA’s CEO seemed content with Battlefield 3’s market share in the FPS genre.

EA revealed that Battlefield 3 has shipped 15 million units since launch, and is expected to reach the 18 million mark by the end of this fiscal year (March 31st, 2013).

As you can see in the bottom left of the slide below, these numbers are based on units shipped (sold-in) to retailers, not sold through to gamers. In February, EA announced that Battlefield 3 reached 10 million copies sold.

Among EA’s highlights of the fiscal year, the publisher proclaimed that Battlefield 3 has succeeded at what EA set out to achieve with the title. EA’s CEO John Riccitiello stated, “We did what we said we’d do with Battlefield. Battlefield 3 took [a] very significant share from the leading competitor on its way to being one of the biggest selling titles in EA history. There will be exciting new developments for the Battlefield brand as FY13 progresses.”

Last month, a report suggested that Battlefield 3 did affect Modern Warfare 3’s sales to some degree. Battlefield 3 had 6.3 million players in March 2012, whereas the most recent numbers released for Modern Warfare 3 indicate that there was 20 million unique players in December 2011. Activision will hold its earnings call tomorrow, May 9th.

The “exciting developments” Riccitiello is referring to might begin this month with downloadable content promised for May and June.

Modern Warfare 3 PS3 Elite Maps, Sanctuary and Foundation, Release on May 10th

The makers of Call of Duty Elite, Beachhead studio, announced today that PS3 users with premium Elite memberships will be able to download the latest two Elite drops Sanctuary and Foundation this Thursday, May 10th.

On the official Call of Duty Elite Facebook page, Beachhead stated, “New Call of Duty: MW3 Content Drops are coming to PS3! Sanctuary and Foundation arrive this Thursday for ELITE Premium members on PSN.”

Xbox 360 owners were able to download the new maps on April 10th. As we previously noted, you can expect the “Content Collection 1” playlists to revert back to Elite to include Sanctuary and Foundation along with the first four Elite maps.

Sanctuary

“Suspended in the air one thousand feet up, you’ll battle more than altitude in the towering sandstone monasteries of Central Greece. Formed over millions of years, this sanctuary’s natural rock pillars have repelled invading armies and withstood the ravages of time but now they’ll face your deployment. Test your skills—and the ancient monks’ craftsmanship—with your arsenal of SMG’s, assault rifles and shotguns. Just remember: don’t look down.”

Foundation

“Journey into the heart of South Korea for a decommissioned concrete factory where the cement flows and bullets fly. After decades of constructing roads and buildings, the towering facility is now a perfectly-constructed combat zone for sniping and run-and-gun rules of engagement. Don’t stand in awe of the towering concrete crusher at the center of the factory unless you want to see your kill ratio meet the same fate.”

Where Did All The Battlefield 3 Official DICE Servers Go on Console? DICE CM Answers

The biggest question we’ve been hearing from much of Battlefield 3’s console audience is, “where did all the DICE servers go?” This is in reference to the official DICE servers whose titles usually begin with ‘-[DICE]-‘ and are usually centered around regular game rules and set-ups, providing a typical and expected Battlefield 3 experience which can be found in the console’s server browser.

With the introduction of the ability to rent private servers on consoles, players have noticed a steady decline in official DICE servers, meaning only rented servers, usually with tweaked game rules, are mostly visible. Battlefield 3 Global Community Manager Daniel Matros answers why in a recent AMA on Reddit.

“There is only so much physical space and digital space where you can have servers. The community requested an RSP programme and we delivered,” according to Matros. This makes sense, but at the same time, player should still be able to find servers that center around regular rules, set-ups and playlists that they’ve come to love. Luckily, Matros explains that DICE has taken notice of the feedback. “I’ve heard this for a while now and the feedback has gotten louder. This is definitely something I will raise when I get back into the studio tomorrow,” explains Matros.

When asked if the removal of DICE servers is a permanent move, Matros answered, “everything in the wonderful world of Battlefield is dynamic,” giving hope to those wishing for their return.

We await further word on the matter.

EA: Battlefield 3 to Receive “New Content Downloads” in May and June

EA has released today the financial results for its fourth quarter of the fiscal year. Among other Battlefield 3 highlights, EA reveals that new content for the game is set to release as early as this month.

The first expansion pack for Battlefield 3, Close Quarters, was revealed back in March with a June release date. However, the DLC might release sooner, at least to some. EA announced today, “Battlefield 3 had a record year, establishing itself as one of EA’s premier game services and in the process successfully took share in the growing First-Person-Shooter market.” The publisher added, “Battlefield 3 players are still deeply engaged – 6.3 million MAUs* in March. New content downloads available in May and June.”

As you know, PS3 players have a one week head start on other platforms when it comes to Battlefield 3’s DLC offering. This could explain EA’s promise of content in both May and June with PS3 receiving Close Quarters towards the end of May. However, there is also the possibility of other unannounced downloadable content not related to Close Quarters to be released this month, as Jonathan points out in the comments below.

Two maps out of the four included in Close Quarters  have been revealed, Donya Fortress and Ziba Tower, along with ten brand new weapons.

*Battlefield 3 sees 6.3 million monthly active users across all three platforms.

[Updated] Battlefield 3 Hacker Reveals Startling Numbers

Update: Battlefield 3 Global Community Manager Daniel Matros has made a statement on the matter in a recent AMA on Reddit: “I have seen [the post] and it has gone around. I have a weird relationship to these hacker posts. I WANT them to gain visibility so we can grow and learn as a community and as a studio. I do also wish they wouldn’t be there. We’ve sent [it] around and people are looking at it.”

Original Story: It turns out that Battlefield 3 on PC isn’t as hack-free as you might think it is, despite counter-measures like Punkbuster.

Recently, a hacker-turned good, ironically named Hackertrash on Reddit, spilled the beans regarding what type of hacks PC players currently face and just how commonly players use them. If his data is true, you might find his conclusions rather startling.

These are his experiences below as he describes on Reddit.

Hi, I’m a BF3 Player. One who ‘hacks’. Some background :

When I’m legitimate (not hacking) I’m a ~400 SPM player, an active member of the reddit forums, and everything I’m about to write is absolutely true.

We’ve all met hackers in game. However, an IRL friend I know plays online games only to hack them. He introduced me to a relatively cheap, fairly well known and undetectable BF3 hack.

I noted it’s existence, but didn’t use it, or think much about it – until one day a few months ago.

I was on caspian, and a opposing sniper was clearly hacking. On a short ticket server he was 100-4 or so and was able to kill me across the map with impossible shots.

I was infuriated, and in a bad mood. I cracked. I went to the hack website my friend had shown me, bought the hack, and over the course of a few days learned to use it.

Here’s the information I think the community at large ought to know.

The hack works by injecting some code into the game as it launches. As such, no files on your computer are altered in any way. I don’t have a mass of technical knowledge, but I know this keeps PB and DICE/EA from being able to detect it. The executable for the hack doesn’t even exist on your computer: You use a java applet to log in, and it loads it directly into memory and you launch the game afterwards.

The hack’s capabilities are immense, and highly configurable. There are so many options. The most notable ones are:

  • I can see the entire enemy team on the map, spotted, with ranges – all the time.
  • I can see who is aiming at me at any time, and the QUALITY of that aiming. (Remember this, I’ll get to it’s importance later)
  • I can set the hack to aim-bot on the push of a button, or all the time – or none. I can also set it to fire for me – but only when my crosshair is over a space that will result in a kill.
  • I can set the hack key-binds, to toggle any option In the hack.
  • I can choose head, body, foot, or variable shots, as well as no spread.
  • I can set the hack so that ANY amount of damage kills a player (no matter where the bullet hits)
  • I can set the hack to spot all members of the enemy team every so often, for the benefit of my entire team (spothacking).
  • Finally, I can kill the entire other team with a touch of a button.

They update the hack constantly. It only takes hours between a patch and a new injectible updated version.

The aim-bot specifically is extremely customizable: It can be set to only force aim at slow or fast or any speed in between on button press: It can snap to the closest enemy, or the one I have closest to my crosshair.

There are many more options, including being able to FULLY customize the weapons (including vehicles) and others. Also – you can customize it so that all this information is invisible. None of this shows up on the PB screenshots.

So after I got my hack all set up, I found the hacker, and went into his server, and began killing the shit out of him.

At first, I just murdered everyone on my way to him, but once I became more skilled with the hack, I just used the 3-d and 2-d radars, along with the feature that showed me who was looking in my direction, to avoid the enemy team, and just kill the hacker.

He rage-quit pretty quick. This lead to my next finding, as I turned on the hack when I suspected someone of hacking.

There are many, many more people using some feature or form of this hack(or a similar one) on almost every server than I thought possible.

What I mean by that Is I found that on nearly every 64 man server, during the course of a two round span, it’s almost a certainty that someone is hacking – and most times more.

Here’s how I was able to know (not surmise) that people were hacking.

The hack can be set so that when you aim near someone (whether you have line of sight or not), it will show you how close they are aiming to you – in a percentage.

100% means that they are aiming at you, perfectly. Running around, watching people, I could instantly see some issues.

As you would imagine, holding a 100% aim on a moving target is nearly impossible. But I found people, time and again, who, once they ‘took notice’ of me – Could hold that 100% as long as they wanted.

In other words, they were seeing me (in many cases across the map from spawn, through buildings and the like) as soon as I spawned – and they had me dialed in, even as I ran, and changed directions.

They were using their own hack to hold an aim on my head, as they got into range/line of sight.

But furthermore, I started to notice something with lots of the vehicles and aircraft: plenty of those would be flying around, but as soon as they got anywhere near me, the aim percentage would go from 0% straight to 100% – and not release until they had fired all their rockets/guns/etc.

This also revealed very excellent players in some cases being accused of hacking, weren’t hacking. You could detect in the aim if it was ‘human’ or not. These cases, while fairly rare, did exist.

Another clear way to tell is if someone was using the hack, is if I could sneak up on someone. Amazing players can be surprised, if you have the advantage of knowing where their entire team is, and what direction they are running and looking, at least some of the time. Hackers using the radar functions cannot be surprised. It was a dead giveaway

I did this for a month, before I removed my subscription to the hack, worrying that I would be stat-wiped, or banned.

But during the month, I did a lot of looking into the profiles and statistics of the people I found to be hacking beyond a shadow of a doubt, and I reported a boatload of profiles (to nearly no avail) .

Here’s what I’ve found- (and mind you , this is a month of playing, I found maybe 100 people that were clearly and undeniably hacking for the above stated reasons). Take this with a grain of salt, sample sizes and unscientific record keeping means these numbers could be 10-20% (maybe even more?) off.

My anecdotal evidence is that between 1 in 30 to 1 in 60 players on big ticket servers are hacking. Also, many high SPM players (over 700-900) with low time on bases etc. are often hacking imo.

  • The vast majority of hackers aren’t using most features of their respective hacks, the most popular hack I saw was the ‘radar’ or spothack. Aimbots are the second most popular – especially among snipers and engineers.
  • Moreover, almost all hackers are ‘closet’ hackers. They aren’t obvious. Also, I would call these people out, and almost universally they would turn it off instantly. (example, I find a hacker, call him one over chat, and he would call me a noob, or insult me. But after that, the hack in most cases would be disengaged – and often the person would leave the next round.)
  • Most people using hacks, once they turn them off, are no good. In fact, a reasonably good person (250~ spm or above) , given this hack, is absolutely unstoppable. I could easily go into a 64 man server, and have a KDR of 20-1 or more in that round, against even insanely good players.
  • Metro is a massive hotbed for hackers, as well as 64 man instant vehicle servers.

I’m doing this because I want to convey to all of you the scope of the issue we face.

End post.

Do you notice any hackers when you play Battlefield 3 on the PC? If so, how often? Let’s hear your thoughts/experiences in the comments below.

Thanks, Hackertrash, for sharing.

Thanks, Andy Callow, for the tip.

New Black Ops 2 Weapon Teased, Ties to Quadrotor Viral Video

Treyarch’s new Black Ops 2 promotional material reveals a new weapon and ties back to an earlier tease in FPS Russia’s viral Quadrotor video.

Below are two images, the top one being of Treyarch’s new YouTube background, and the bottom one being of a new Black Ops 2 promotional poster. You’ll notice that both feature what we presume to be the same soldier in earlier promotional material to be holding a weapon we’ve not yet seen. To check out all the weapons in Black Ops 2 we’ve discovered so far, make sure to check out our latest trailer analysis.

This weapon looks to be some sort of M4 variant, a standard assault rifle that has been featured in all Modern Warfare games (similarly, the Commando in Black Ops), perhaps with some Magpul modifications. Could this be what a modified version would look like in the year 2025? (Speaking of the setting, make sure to check out our new poll on the right-hand side bar!) It will be interesting to see what Treyarch’s depictions of weapons we use today will look like in the year 2025.

Treyarch's YouTube Background

(Thanks,  James K.)

Black Ops 2 Poster

(Thanks, Charlie INTEL.)

Additionally, the weapon this soldier is holding above looks extremely similar to one of the assault rifles that FPS Russia had lying next to him on a table in his recent viral Quadrotor video, which you can check out in action here if you haven’t yet. Take a look at the bottom-right hand corner (below), on the table. Two weapons appear. While the left-most one has yet to be identified (is that a two-barrelled assault rifle? Well, it still ain’t no triple-barrelled shotty), the one just to the left is surely the same weapon as above. The magazine, foregrip and sights all look very similar.

FPS Russia and "Charlene"

What can you gather from the images above? Can you make out what the double-barrelled weapon on the left is?

Have you checked out all the Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 pre-order bonuses yet?

Along with a number of gameplay, UI, map and other changes, Valve and Hidden Path have updated the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive beta to include the CS:GO SDK, as announced last week. “This means if you have the Beta, you now have access to the SDK. It is available as a separate download from the tools tabs in steam,” according to the official CS Blog.

For news, information and peer support, you can join the CSGO_SDK mailing list. Later, developers will also include Steam Workshop integration “so creators can easily share their maps and players can view, rate, and download content.”

Nuke and Inferno SE maps have also been included in this update. “These are stripped down competitive maps designed for league play,” according to developers. These maps are not available through matchmaking but through dedicated servers and peer-servers. Additionally, developers have also added the ability to search for casual or social games where rules are slightly more relaxed and include quicker rounds.

    – Coaxed the HLSL compiler to [flatten] several important conditionals it was sometimes issuing dynamic jumps for.
    – The VERY_LOW and LOW quality levels use a single 3D radial lerp vs. the previous 2D+3D lerp
    – VERY_LOW/LOW only use 2 world cascades vs. the previous 3. At VERY_LOW/LOW quality levels only vertexlit and phong where actually using the closest cascade (for better character self shadowing), so world shadow quality is mostly unaffected by this change.
    – Also adding a bunch of CSM culling statistics (displayed at the bottom of the screen when cl_csm_debug_2d is 1).
    – dust2 timedemo avg. FPS results on a NV 6800/Core2 2.4 GHz at VERY_LOW improved by 13% (higher quality settings also see an improvement).

Starhawk – Top 14 Questions “That Must Be Answered”

Dylan Joe, President of Lightbox Interactive, answers the top 14 Starhawk questions concerning the final game in a series of videos below.

[youtube id=”bwdeenKBnEk” width=”600″ height=”350″]

[youtube id=”SrKxd9YPx_w” width=”600″ height=”350″]

[youtube id=”AdGBWrBM5ck” width=”600″ height=”350″]

[youtube id=”ZIGpz5unFvU” width=”600″ height=”350″]

Read on for a summary of the questions in the videos above:

  • Dram-kill too slow: There is now a new drama-kill that is much faster then the one that was used in the beta.
  • Air Combat: Hawk to hawk combat felt a little weak for Warhawk veterans. This has been tweaked in the final game. The reason why this was done in the first place was because they wanted to improve the life-span of airtime, which in Warhawk was extremely short. Don’t expect it to be as long as it was in the beta though, in the final release. Air damage is now more similar to that of Warhawk.
  • A number of weapons on the hawks have been tweaked in damage and speed.
  • The team is not shy about doing hotfixes if the community feels that there needs to be change. Expect the team to take action when it comes to patching, however they will make sure that it’s something that does indeed need patching. This means that they’ll be constantly evaluating fan feedback.
  • In the beta there were 3 maps. In the final game there are 10 maps which will offer a variety of different locations. Some maps will features pre-built structures along with interior structures.
  • The mini-map will not be able to show the full map. However, there will be an expanded version which will show more of the map, but still not all of it.
  • The flight ceiling varies from map to map. A question concerning whether this would be raised has been asked by many players. Some of the maps have been updated to either have higher or lower flight ceiling. Having a crazy high ceiling would be mean more dive bombing, which for ground players, can become annoying
  • Vehicle speeds: Many adjustments have been done to the speed of vehicles, however don’t expect much of a difference from the Beta as the team felt extremely happy with the current settings.
  • Rift energy economy: No changes have been made yet, though it will be continuously monitored after the game has been launched. They will wait for more data after the first week of launch and once that is received, hot fixes will be deployed.
  • Torpedo blast radius has been adjusted along with it’s pick-up/re-spawn time. Torpedo can be shot down now, which wasn’t possible in the beta.
  • Will building cap of 32 be increased?: Dylan would love more pieces, however this may cause issues in big player games and split-screen mode. Too many assets and frame-rates can cause issues and the amount of memory available is another problem. Though he would love it, he feels that the right balancing and tweaking can be done to fix this need.
  • Base Camping: One problem with the beta was base camping. There are no pre-locked home base, which was an issue with Warhawk.
  • Turrets spam: Many players kept building auto turrets, and at times the whole team were building them. They are now more expensive to build and  have become much easier to destroy, though are still effective.
  • No health bars for vehicles: The team wanted players to understand themselves where their health is at. They feel that once you play for a bit, you’ll understand where your health is. If this is an issue later, then they will consider adding it.
  • Load-outs will be better explained in the final game. Expect there to be more load-out options as well.
  • You’ll be able to create your own servers and game modes. There is even a deathmatch dogfight option that allows players to only battle with warhawks.

Starhawk is set to release May 8th.

Modern Warfare 3 – No Old Maps Included in Paid DLC, Elite Clan Challenges Leaked

Only new maps and missions will be released for Modern Warfare 3. Also, Modern Warfare 3 players might soon receive clan challenges according to a leaked page on Elite.

MP1st reader Moriarty1975 has refered us to a discussion on the Call of Duty forums, where a disgruntled fan is asking for more clarity on the DLC release schedule for Elite members. The user points out that the last two drops were announced and released within a few days. To which an Infinity Ward developer stated, “we’ll attempt to give you a better heads up on release timing moving forward. One of the issues we face is we sometimes don’t receive release date notification from the first parties and internal QA until late in the day.”

This month paid Elite members on Xbox 360 players can expect four maps to hit the platform, June for PS3. You might think that classic maps might be thrown in the mix, but don’t fret as Infinity Ward promises that paid DLC is only comprised of new maps, missions, and such. The developer assured, “I can confirm that paid DLC will consist of all new maps, missions etc.”

It’s worth noting that the former creative strategist Robert Bowling wanted to release old maps to fans for free, outside of the DLC model. Some classics were rumored to be found in the game’s files.

Moriarty was gracious enough to send us another tip of a clan challenges’ screenshot he spotted on the Elite website. The introduction of the challenges has been taken down. Clan challenges were initially promised to be one of Elite’s features, and it’s been a while since we heard of them.

Here’s the screenshot of the clan operations taken by Moriarty:

Daily Clan Challenges

  • Earn Clan XP and badges for acquiring specified MW3 accolades a  certain number of times throughout the day. Awards are delivered within  a few hours of completing the challenge.
  • Daily Challenges begin every day at 12:00 AM PST, lasting through 11:59 PM PST.
  • Free and premium clan members contribute to each day’s challenge.

Weekly Clan Challenges

  • Earn Clan XP and badges for hitting cumulative MW3 milestones  across total kills, headshots, assists or score. Awards are delivered  within a few hours of completing the challenge.
  • Each challenge begins every Monday starting at 12:00 AM PST, lasting through the following Sunday at 11:59 PM PST.
  • Free and premium clan members contribute to each week’s challenge.
