Report: Guerrilla Games Is Currently Working on a New Co-Op Game

Guerrilla Games as a studio currently have their hands full with the upcoming Horizon Forbidden West, which makes this next bit of rumor all the more interesting. According to a report from Andy Robinson of Video Games Chronicle (VGC), Guerrilla Games is currently working on a new game – but not just any title. It will reportedly be a co-op multiplayer game, a far cry from their previous and upcoming titles.

This report is somewhat substantiated by new job postings from Guerrilla Games, in which one of the new openings is that of a Senior Social Systems Designer. Going to the posting site, one of the key requirements state:

Design features and systems to promote a healthy and fun experience for our player community, engage players in social interactions to create lasting relationships, and where compatible players can create Guild-like groups to explore together.

Robinson then elaborated, stating that sources told him that this new game from Guerrilla Games will be a co-op title. The report also mentioned that it may be a Horizon multiplayer title, but as with everything that’s not been officially announced, take this report with a grain of salt.

Horizon Forbidden West is releasing for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on February 18.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Compared to Empire Strikes Back by Marvel Games VP Bill Rosemann

Fans anxiously looking forward to Insomniac Games’ next Spider-Man game can get even more excited for the sequel, as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is being compared to the Star Wars movie Empire Strikes Back by Marvel Games VP Bill Rosemann!

In the latest podcast episode of This Week in Marvel, Rosemann spoke about the highly anticipated follow-up to 2018’s Marvel’s Spider-Man and likened the darker tone of the sequel to Episode V of the Skywalker Saga — which saw Darth Vader and the Galactic Empire striking back hard at Luke Skywalker and the Rebellion.

If Marvel’s Spider-Man was Star Wars, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is kind of our Empire Strikes Back. It gets a little darker. It’s the next big chapter.

That’s a pretty bold — yet somewhat accurate — description given the way things have played out in the very first teaser trailer for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 released just a few weeks ago. Premiering in this year’s PlayStation Showcase digital event, the footage saw both Spider-Men in Peter Parker and Miles Morales teaming up to take on some bad guys while a mysterious voice narrates and says he’s been looking for a worthy challenge. All signs point to that voice belonging to longtime Spider-Man villain Kraven the Hunter, but the trailer ends on a deadlier note by confirming the presence of Venom in the sequel! Yes, the fan favorite symbiote wearing Lethal Protector will be appearing in the game, and he’ll be voiced by legendary actor Tony Todd as well.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is slated for released as a PS5 exclusive some time in 2023.

Battlefield 2042 Beta PS5 File Size Revealed; PlayStation Pre-Load for Early Access Starts Nov. 10

With the Battlefield 2042 beta dates and schedule  , it seems EA has also uploaded the Battlefield 2042 beta PS5 client on the PlayStation Network as well! Not only that, but we now know the pre-load date for PlayStation gamers, too (at least for those who pre-ordered the Ultimate, and Gold editions of the game who are the ones getting early access)!

Spotted by reliable data checker PlayStation Game Size, the  Battlefield 2042 beta PS5 file size has been confirmed to be 16.8GB! Mind, this is without a day-one patch, or any other updates applied.

Bear in mind, some beta clients or game files do get patched even before they get released to gamers, so there is a possibility that this 16GB file size will be even bigger.

As for the Battlefield 2042 PS4/PS5 pre-load date, it’s set for November 10 — a complete nine days before it officially launches!

Update: Just pointing out (in case it wasn’t obvious), that the pre-load date shown below is for the Ultimate Edition, as they will get early access to the base game. Regular game owners should be able to pre-load on November 17.

https://twitter.com/_BARK3R_/status/1442813910441086983

This is definitely good news for those looking to download the game file ahead of launch. At least you’ll be able to clear some HDD space in advance before the game’s servers are turned on. Outside of the beta date, DICE has also revealed details on the progression and cosmetics, and even the PC requirements have been revealed, too.

Battlefield 2042 shoots out this November 19 on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Apex Legends New Event Apex Chronicles Scheduled to Begin September 29

Electronic Arts announced a new type of event for Apex Legends called Apex Chronicles, which gives players a chance to earn Battle Pass Stars and themed Apex Packs for completing the event! The spotlight will be on Bloodhound for the first installment of the event titled “Old Ways, New Dawn, ” and will kick off September 29. Check out the full details below:

We’re introducing a new type of event called Apex Chronicles! These are bite-sized story events that inject narrative into the world of Apex via gameplay challenges and experiences.

On Sept 29th, our first Apex Chronicle—called Old Ways, New Dawn—will launch.

During this event, players who choose Bloodhound will be given the chance to go on an adventure. The journey follows Bloodhound as they try to save an injured prowler and deal with the guilt over their crumbling home world and past failures.

Some tips for those looking to try out Old Ways, New Dawn:

The challenges are unique to Bloodhound and their abilities—you have to play as Bloodhound in a non-ranked BR game to activate the quest.
All challenges occur on World’s Edge, Bloodhound’s home.
Once you’re on World’s Edge as Bloodhound, simply look out for a white raven to trigger the beginning of your hunt.

Just a few other things to keep in mind:

Players are assigned unique paths to chase, so even if multiple Bloodhound players are going for the challenge at the same time, they’ll be able to avoid overlap with others.
You’ll be able to resume your journey from a checkpoint if you aren’t able to complete it in a single game.
And finally, you’ll be able to earn Battle Pass Stars as you complete individual chapters, along with three Bloodhound-themed Apex packs for completing the whole Chronicle!

Developed by Respawn Entertainment and published by EA, Apex Legends is a free-to-play Battle Royale style shooter game that is available for people to download on PC, PS4, and Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. Onto the battlefield, 60 players are dropped where they have to loot, scavenge for the weapons and ammo while battling out with the other players.

Black Desert Online Update 1.99 Patch Notes:

Summer Season Closes

● The Summer Season comes to an end through the 09/28 Maintenance. All Summer Season Characters that have not yet graduated will be converted into normal characters.
– Please refer to the [2021 Summer Season Closes] notice listed on the website.
※ Adventurers who aren’t able to complete the graduation quest will find Fughar’s Letter of Encouragement and Gift Box Full of Memories in their Mail.

Manos Gear

● Manos equipment has been added to the game, giving access to the highest Lifeskill gear.
– For more information, please check out the Manos Gear Patch note – here

Content Changes

● Added a function that allows you to repair durability of your cooking utensils and alchemy tools. You can repair the following tools.

Item Name
Advanced Cooking Utensil
Supreme Cooking Utensil
Advanced Alchemy Tool
Supreme Alchemy Tool

– You can repair the durability of cooking utensils/alchemy tools installed in your residence by selecting the repair function from the interaction ring.

– You must have the appropriate repair tools in your inventory to repair the durability of cooking utensils and alchemy tools. The entire durability can be repaired using one tool.

● Added four types of repair tools appropriate for each installment that you can set up within your residence.

– You can hand over one cooking utensil or alchemy tool with max durability to an NPC in major towns and Velia, and exchange the tool for one repair kit.

※ These items can be stacked, placed into Storage and moved with Storage maids/butlers.

Previously, the residence was crowded with a variety of cooking utensils and alchemy tools, but with the addition of the ability to repair cooking utensil/alchemy tools, you can now install just one tool rather than setting up multiple tools. We hope this opens up options for Adventurers who enjoy cooking/alchemy and decorating their residences.

● Added a filter on the Barter Information window that distinguishes trade information by level.
– By setting the filter to ‘All Barters’, you can filter items in order by level as was the default prior to the update.
The filter that distinguishes the trade information by level are as follows:
– Normal -> Lv. 1
– Lv. 1 -> Lv. 2
– Lv. 2 -> Lv. 3
– Lv. 3 -> Lv. 4
– Lv. 4 -> Lv. 5
– Normal Barter
– Crow Coin
– All Barters

● A filter function has been added to the Barter Information window that allows you to sort the list according to the number of Barter goods that can be obtained through Bartering.
– This filter only applies to the following Barter offers
– Lv. 1 -> Lv. 2
– Lv. 2 -> Lv. 3
These filters allow you to distinguish barter offers base on the obtainable amount in the following ways.
– More than 1
– 2 or more
– 3 or more
This filter can only be used if the trade information level is set to the following:
– Lv. 1 -> Lv. 2
– Lv. 2 -> Lv. 3
– All Barters

● Added a button that sorts trade routes based by distance closest to your current location on the Barter Information window.
– This function can be used together with the level/quantity filter, allowing the lists to be based on what is closest to you.

●Added a function which allows you to instantly sell trade goods and items through any warehouse.
– The items that can instantly be sold through a storage are as follows:
* Items that can be sold for Silver
* Items that are not Pearl Items
* Gear that is not Enhanced.
※ Please note that items sold in this will will not show up in the repurchase window.

A function that allows you to instantly sell junk items stacked in your warehouse without having to go to a shop was added. Previously, you had to go to a Shop NPC after loading your items on your mount or moving them to your inventory. Now, it will be more convenient since you won’t have to go through this whole process. Not only can you use this function to sell your junk items, but you can also instantly sell your sea trade goods. The best function for our Adventurers who enjoy bartering may actually be one where you can instantly sell your trade goods on a ship. However, this function may take a while to develop. It may not be the best, but I hope this newly added function will be at least a little meaningful to those of you who enjoy bartering

● Improved resurrecting in Red Battlefield to automatically resurrect the character in the resurrection area of Red Battlefield if they try to exit the battlefield while they are dead.

● Added different alerts in the 1:1 chat with friends.

– You can use this feature to set individual messenger alerts for each friend in your friend list.

● Added a quest to exchange the accessory obtained from the ‘Old Moon Guild’s Trade Offer’ quest for a different accessory.
– Once you’ve completed the “[EXC] A New Choice I” quest, you can accept the following “[EXC] A New Choice II” quests from Jetina:

Quest Name Quest Objective Quest Reward
[EXC] A New Choice II Hand over TET (IV) grade accessory from NPC Jetina’s Old Moon Guild’s Trade Offer content Choose 1 TET (IV) grade

Narc Ear Accessory/Tungrad Earring/Ring of Crescent Guardian)

[EXC] A New Choice II Hand over PEN (V) grade accessory from NPC Jetina’s Old Moon Guild’s Trade Offer content Choose 1 PEN (V) grade

Narc Ear Accessory/Tungrad Earring/Ring of Crescent Guardian

* You must have the relevant accessory enhanced to TET (IV) or PEN (V) grade in your inventory (unequipped) to proceed with and complete the quests.

* If you’ve used a reform stone on the relevant accessory, you will need to extract the stone before you can proceed with and complete either of the quests.

* You can complete either the TET (IV) or PEN (V) grade accessory quest once per family.

● Changed the name of the following quest due to the addition of the aforementioned exchange quests involving the accessories obtained from the “Old Moon Guild’s Trade Offer” content.

● Improved the quest “[Valencia] Clean Revenge” to no longer require ancient coins that have been removed as quest rewards.

Node War and Conquest War

● Simplified all the annex-related items that are used in Node and Conquest Wars into one item.

– You can build all annexes, including Hwacha’s and Flame Towers, with an ‘Annex Construction Tool’.

– When you use this item, a new window opens where you can select an annex and choose what you want to build from the window.

– An annex suitable for your current level (Node Tier etc) will automatically be displayed on the new UI.

– You can purchase an ‘Annex Construction Tool’ from the Guild Military Supply Shop with 1,000,000 silver used from Guild funds. Due to this, all annex-related items in different tiers that were sold at the Guild Military Supply Shop have been removed.

– When you construct your desired annex, the used Annex Construction Tool disappears. This item does not stack in your inventory.

●The maximum durability of the Castle Gate in Calpheon has increased as follows:

+130% +165%

● Improved issues where movement and actions could appear unnatural in Node Wars and Conquest Wars.

● Fixed an issue where removing a Conquest War Wooden Fence also removed other Wooden Fences nearby.

● Changed the message displayed when building Conquest War forts during special circumstances as follows:

Before
After
You can start building your Conquest War Fort/Command Post the day after you have successfully occupied a Tier 3 or 4 node. You can start building your Conquest War Fort/Command Post the day after you have successfully occupied a Tier 1 or higher node.

● The Treant Camouflage 4 piece effect, and the Desert Camouflage 3 piece effect, will now show the ‘Unknown Adventurer’ tag as Red if it is possible for that character to be attacked/attack other adventurers.

– The ‘Unknown Adventurer’ tag will show in gray when the effect is normally applied.

Item Changes

Characters in Black Desert all used different resources. From the fighting spirit of Warriors, to the divine powers of Valkyrie, each character had their own unique characteristics and resources required for skills. With this in mind, potion items that restore these resources were seperated accordingly.

Although natural in concept, new adventurers struggled to intuitively grasp the concept due to variety. With this in mind, and to make things more accessible, all MP/SP/WP recovery items have been reorganized and rolled into one item. When rolling the items together, we used the highest current cooldown and useage effect, and due to this, we have also made improvements to the Odore’s Spirit Essence as well.

Meanwhile, to improve the progression of the Infinite HP potion, Ornette’s Spirit Essence has been improved, allowing lower grade potions to be crafted when you only have one or two of the required components. These lower grade potions have lower effects, so if you wish to get the most out of your healing item, you will need to get the rest of the materials required.

However, we did not apply the step change for Odore’s Spirit essence because the effects of smaller potions can be highly impactful for certain classes that do not require as many resources to perform.

In addition, with the difficulty in obtaining the two items, we are adding Name Engraving to the potions, as well as the tag ‘Ancient’ being added to the pre-existing Infinite Pots that are in the game. For those who have spent a long time already trying to collect and create them, but are yet to collect the final pieces, there is still chance to obtain the special title, name engraving and the ‘Ancient’ tag if you complete the Ornette’s Spirit Essence and/or the Odore’s Spirit Essence before October 27th. Please note that this will only count for those who finish the infinite pots the old way, without the use of the new Items.

● Changed the recovery of Odore’s Spirit Essence from 325 MP/SP/WP Recovery to 375 MP/SP/WP Recovery and the cooldown from 6 seconds to 5 seconds, which is the same for the Instant MP Potion (Extra Large).

BeforeAfter

● Combined MP, WP, SP Recovery potions into a single item.

– You will no longer be able to purchase WP and SP Recovery potions from Vendors or obtain via Exchange due to the combination of the MP, WP, SP Recovery potions. You can still use the existing WP, SP Recovery potions that you own.

– Changed to recover the proper MP, WP, SP for each class when using one of the MP, WP, SP Recovery potions.

● Changed a text in the item description for Magic Crystal of Infinity – MP Recovery from recover MP to recover MP/WP/SP.

● Changed the cooldown for an herbal juice from 6 seconds to 5 seconds, and changed the Refined Herbal Juice to now recover MP/WP/SP +375 instead of the previous +325.

● Changed the cooldown for WP, SP Recovery potions and Instant MP Recovery potions from 6 seconds to 5 seconds and recovery of Extra Large potions from 325 to 375.

– Changed the sale price of the WP, SP potions listed on the Shop so that they can be sold at the same price that they were purchased at.

※ You can obtain Ornette’s Spirit Essence using the aforementioned items via the following method.

※ You can obtain Ornette’s Spirit Essence using the aforementioned items via the following method.

● Merindora of Grána has begun to give out Everlasting Water to Adventurers who only have some of the items needed to craft Ornette’s Spirit Essence, which include Sherekhan’s Panacea, Ron’s Tintinnabulum, and Ash Halfmoon Kagtunak.

– You can craft a Blessed Spirit Essence by adding Everlasting Water to Sherekhan’s Panacea, Ron’s Tintinnabulum, OR Ash Halfmoon Kagtunak.

※ A Spirit Essence with the “Ancient” tag is one crafted with materials obtained from defeating monsters.

Combined Items Result

Sherekhan’s Panacea, Ron’s Titinnabulum OR Ash Halfmoon Kagtunak

Everlasting Water

Arrange into the shape of a [-] in your inventory

Blessed Spirit Essence

– You can craft a Greater Blessed Spirit Essence by combining one of the two crafting materials that remain after crafting Ornette’s Spirit Essence with a Blessed Spirit Essence.

Combined Items Result

One of the two remaining pieces from Sherekhan‘s Panacea, Ron‘s Tintinnabulum, or Ash Halfmoon Kagtunak after crafting a Blessed Spirit Essence

Arrange into the shape of [-] in your inventory

Greater Blessed Spirit Essence

– You can accept the same quest from which you can craft an Ornette’s Spirit Essence by going to Merindora with a Greater Blessed Spirit Essence and the final, remaining material

Required Item Reward

Greater Blessed Spirit Essence

One of the Sherekhan’s Panacea, Ron’s Tintinnabulum or Ash Halfmoon Kagtunak depending on which materials were used to create the Blessed Spirit Essence and the Greater Blessed Spirit Essence.

Ornette’s Spirit Essence

● Added “Ornette’s Spirit Essence,” a quest that you can accept from Merindora when you have one of the crafting materials for Greater Blessed Spirit Essence or materials left after crafting Ornette’s Spirit Essence in your inventory.

– You can accept the existing quest when you have all of the three types of items: Sherekhan’s Panacea, Ron’s Tintinnabulum, and Ash Halfmoon Kagtunak.

– If you are doing or have completed one of the two types of quests, you cannot accept a different quest and the rewards will be the same.

Markthanan’s Gland Ancient Markthanan’s Gland

※ The items you obtain from defeating monsters will have the “Ancient” tag.

※ Materials or Spirit Essences with the “Ancient” tag can only be crafted via items with the “Ancient” tag, and in this case, you can obtain a Spirit Essence with the “Ancient” tag.

For instance, when crafting an Ancient Blessed Spirit Essence by combining an Ancient Sherekhan’s Panacea with Everlasting Water, you can use an Ancient Ron’s Tintinnabulum to craft it. However, you cannot use a Ron’s Tintinnabulum without the “Ancient” tag to craft an Ancient Blessed Spirit Essence.

※ You can only craft a Spirit Essence without the ‘Ancient’ tag with a material or Spirit Essence without the ‘Ancient’ tag

However, if you want to craft the Spirit Essence mentioned above by combining items both with and without the  ‘Ancient’ Tag, you can exchange your item for an ‘Ancient’ item by going to Merindora of Grana. Since you would not have an Ornette’s Spirit Essence crafted from an Ancient Item, you cannot obtain a ‘Dawnwish Petal’ or a ‘Duskwish Petal’

For example, when you want to craft an Ornette’s Spirit Essence with a Ron’s Tintinnabulum without the “Ancient” tag while having an Ancient Ash Halfmoon Kagtunak and an Ancient Sherekhan’s Panacea in your inventory, you can go to the NPC Merindora by Exchanging them for one without the “Ancient” tag.

● You can exchange an ‘Ancient’ item for one without the tag by going to Merindora of Grana.

We felt that there were too many lootable item types from the Calpheon and Mediah Territories. These items, which were also not always immediately necessary when you obntained them, would only serve as an inconvenience as they took up precious inventory space. To address this matter, we went about organizing the types of loot that dropped in these regions.

– Decreased the drop rates of Scroll Written in Ancient Language and Caphras Stones when defeating normal monsters.

We’ve improved the vendor items that drop from Valencia monsters by introducing new versions of these items.

When setting forth on their seasonal adventure, Valencia has been a testing ground for many adventurers to witness their growth with their Tuvala gear equipped, and yet, the types of vendor items that drop from these regions were rather unbalanced. Thus, we adjusted the value of vendor items that drop from defeating monsters in the above regions. For the sake of New Adventurers who may not have “Item Collection Increase Scrolls” readily available, we made sure that the basic vendor items items have a 100% guaranteed drop rate.

Black Ops Cold War & Warzone Season 6 Cinematic Trailer Reveals the Return of Alex Mason

Activision dropped a literal bombshell today as the publisher revealed something big for the still ongoing Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War and Warzone. The first ever COD Black Ops Cold War & Warzone Season 6 cinematic trailer reveals the return of one of the series’ most enduring icons, Alex Mason. Check out the trailer below.

For longtime fans of the series, this is a very welcome content update for Season 6. Alex Mason is a central figure in the eponymous Black Ops sub-series for Call of Duty, and he is prominently featured to be the new Operator skin for this free content update. Adler, one of COD Black Ops Cold War’s protagonists, also makes a return as the final showdown between him and Stitch is coming in this latest update.

Season 6 will be arriving as a free content update this October 7. The series’ next iteration, Call of Duty: Vanguard, will be released on November 5.

Kena: Bridge of Spirits Review – Spoiled Rotten (PS5)

I have been looking forward to Ember Labs debut, Kena: Bridge of Spirits since it was first showcased on Sony’s first PS5 event back in June 2020. It looked like it was delivering on the promise of playing a Pixar movie. With Ember Labs history as an animation studio, I knew in my heart Kena was going to be something special. Well, the wait is over; I’ve completed Kena: Bridge of Spirits, and what I learned is that my heart knows nothing. While certainly impressive in many aspects, especially presentation, Kena: Bridge of Spirits falls short in the two categories most important to me: gameplay and controls, which is disappointing to me because it’s clearly inspired by Dark Souls, one of my favorite series of all-time but without any of FromSoftware’s polish and meticulousness.

Stop Me If You Think that You’ve Heard this One Before

The story of Kena: Bridge of Spirits is not only simple, it’s kind of rote. I’ve played countless games in which a malevolent force has corrupted the land, and the player is tasked with restoring the world back to its original beauty (as recently as the underrated Immortals: Fenyx Rising). In this regard, Kena doesn’t bring anything new to the table. It sticks with a classic gaming trope, and does it about as well as it can without breaking any new ground. The newish wrinkle is that each area has its own point of view character that Kena must rescue from the “Corruption” by collecting three relics each, bringing them back to a central point and then fighting the corrupted version of that character thus restoring them to the world. In all honesty, because I’ve done it all before I was never truly captivated by it, and found myself checking out at times. It’s perfectly fine.

It doesn’t help that we barely get to know Kena as a character. Even having played and finished the entire game, I still have no idea what she really wanted or who she really was. There are hints, for sure, but nothing that endeared me to her as a character.

Presentation Awards

There’s no denying that Kena: Bridge of Spirits is a gorgeous game. The animations are impeccable, the world is beautifully realized, and the cutscenes are as good as any animated film out today. It’s clear that this is where Ember Labs’ strengths lie. The voice acting, while sparse is also really well done. Beyond the visuals, the score by Jason Gallaty is fantastic. If there’s an award for best score, this should definitely be in contention.

The level design is actually pretty great at times. It’s a huge interconnected map that makes great use of the PS5’s SSD which allows you to travel seamlessly from area to area. Fast travel is pretty much instantaneous as well. There’s also some fun environmental puzzles, especially when you get the Spirit Bomb which can almost move back and freeze time briefly, allowing me to navigate the level and reach other areas. Sometimes these are used as puzzles and can be quite creative, if never challenging. In fact, that applies to most of the puzzles. They’re fun, creative and never all that challenging.

Imitation of the Sincerest Form of Battery

Then there is the combat. You’ll spend a lot of time fighting enemies as well as a total of 16 bosses to test your mettle against that all have some kind of trick to them but can vary wildly in challenge. The combat itself is simple enough. Borrowing heavily from FromSoftware’s Soulsbourne games, R1 is light attack, R2 is heavy attack. Holding R2 will give a charged heavy attack, L1 is your shield and/or parry. The key difference is that the aiming is handled by L2 at all times and depending on R1 or R2 held in tandem with L2 will either shoot a Spirit Arrow or throw a Spirit Bomb. R3 is also the lock on.

As a Soulsbourne veteran, this should be right up my alley. Unfortunately, Ember Labs are no FromSoftware. The window to parry is hilariously and frustratingly small, and it’s often hard to tell exactly when the right time to use it is because there seems to be a delay in the input, and it’s shockingly janky and finicky. I played through the entire game parrying a ton, and rarely did it feel like I didn’t just get lucky.

It’s not just the parrying that feels unwieldy. I literally had to let go of the button to start a charged attack after a combo, wasting valuable time to go into the next attack. Whenever I pressed L2 and R2 in too close of succession the game would, I don’t know, think I wanted a heavy attack instead of to aim and charge an arrow. This is most noticeable when sprinting into an attack.

Lock-on is absolutely broken at times. There are enemies that can teleport, and it seems like the game is simply erasing their image but the framework is still there because I was stuck looking at where the enemy was, and couldn’t move the camera around to the enemy’s new position. Needless to say, this got my character killed on more than a few occasions. The camera will also sometimes jerk to face enemies when you’re running to find a healing flower which, you guessed it, also caused me to die.

Adding to this frustration is that some of the bosses spike in difficulty considerably. I would blow through some bosses on my first attempt while others took well over 20 tries. Partially because of the above stated woes, but also because some of the fights expect you to not mess up at all. You only get a handful of healing flowers in each boss arena and once they’re used up, that’s it. You have to play perfectly from there on out. And nothing is more frustrating than a multi-phase boss fight that negates one of your upgrades because god forbid, you have it easier through your own success and rewards.

Flowers Amongst the Weeds

The upgrade tree is sparse but all of the upgrades are useful. It’s refreshing to play a game in which I used all of the upgrades multiple times throughout the game rather having some I will never use because they either offer very little or don’t fit my playstyle.

Rot are also useful. Rot are the tiny creatures of the world that are hidden throughout, and you need to use your other Rot to find them. Once you’ve collected a certain amount you will gain a Courage point in your meter which fill up as you deal damage to enemies. A full Courage point allows you to either use a special attack or sick your Rot on an enemy, distracting them allowing you to either get behind them or just wail away getting free hits. Rot can also be used to summon a Spirit dragon that slithers across the floor taking out Corruption spots which lead to other areas to explore or take out enemies.

The problem with exploration is that with the exception of finding more Rot, the collectables are pretty useless. They’re either hats for your Rot that can be bought at a hat vendor, or allow you to find currency which is used to buy hats from the hate vendor. If it weren’t for the opportunity to build my Rot army I wouldn’t have explored nearly as much.

If I sound like I am being overly harsh, I’m not. Kena: Bridge of Spirits is a good game that could have been better had Ember Labs tightened up the combat controls and offered better reasons to explore the gorgeous world they created. I hope Kena is a big hit so Ember Labs can have another go at it, and hopefully get more ambitious and really nail down their combat. Meanwhile considering how much I was looking forward to this game, Kena: Bridge of Spirits can’t help but feel a little disappointing.

Score: 7/10

Pros:

  • The presentation is stellar
  • The interconnected world is fun to explore
  • Puzzles a clever

Cons:

  • The controls in combat are wonky and unwieldy at times
  • The story is rote and familiar
  • Bosses can be extremely frustrating

Battlefield 2042 Control Configurations for PC & Consoles Revealed’; Player Card Is “New Dog Tag”

While the Battlefield 2042 beta dates were revealed today, DICE and EA didn’t stop there. We also got a look at the Battlefield 2042 control configurations for PC and consoles! If you’re wondering which button does what, or what got changed, here’s your chance to check it out.

Battlefield 2042 Control Configurations:

PC:

PS4/PS5 (DualSense pictured):

Xbox:

Images courtesy of Battlefield

Not much has changed it seems, no? Except for maybe how grenades are handled for controllers.

With DICE revealing the progression and cosmetics, some might be wondering where the franchise’s familiar dog tags come into play. It seems they are being replaced by Player Cards! Community Manager Kevin Johnson confirmed this over on Twitter where he says this is the new dog tag.

While the controls might not have changed much, taking out dog tags is a big thing. However, it seems Player Cards do offer more customization, so I’ll reserve judgement on that until at least after we’ve all played the game, and seen how it looks in-game.

We’re expecting more Battlefield 2042 news to be released as we get nearer to the beta start date, so stay tuned!

Battlefield 2042 shoots out this November 19 on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

Overwatch Update Patch Notes: Here’s What’s New for 3.18 This Sept. 28

Blizzard Entertainment has released the Overwatch update patch notes for 3.18 this September 28, and this one introduces a brand-new map to the game. Read on below for more information on this latest update.

Overwatch Update Patch Notes for 3.18:

NEW MAP: MALEVENTO

Battlefield 2042 Progression and Cosmetics Info Blow Out

Despite the recently announced delay for the game, those still excited for Battlefield 2042 will be happy to learn that today Electronic Arts and DICE dropped some new information for the game. A page that answers all of the frequently asked questions for Battlefield 2042 details the game’s progression and cosmetics, as well as the long-awaited open beta (which was leaked earlier by the Origin API). Check out the information dump below.

Battlefield 2042 Progression:

Earning Experience

Our design approach for earning XP in Battlefield 2042 is to reward the most XP to players who play the objectives and stick with their teams and squads until the match ends, followed by further various actions such as kills, assists and other support actions.

On top of that, Ribbons are a great way to earn XP, and we are excited that they are back in a new way for Battlefield 2042. Ribbons are earned by completing different gameplay objectives, and have up to 3 tiers which each will grant a greater XP reward. The more progress you make on a specific Ribbon, the more XP you’ll earn at the end of round. Here’s a few examples of some of those Ribbons:

  • Objective Ribbon – Play the objective
  • Wingman Ribbon – Support teammates with revives and various assists
  • Logistics Ribbon – Heal and resupply others and repair vehicles
  • Intel Ribbon – Spot and disrupt enemies, such as via EMP’s or destroying drones
  • Combat Ribbon – Score kills and destroy vehicles

battlefield 2042 progression

At launch you’ll be ready to jump onto the Battlefield and start earning XP, up to the max Player Level of 99. During your journey of leveling and progression, you will unlock Specialists, weapons, vehicles and gadgets and a variety of cosmetics. But once you reach that milestone, your adventure isn’t over. You can continue leveling up through what we call S-levels, starting at S001 and ending at S999. While there are no further rewards tied to the S-levels, they are the ultimate way to show off your veterancy on the Battlefield!

Unlocking your weapons

Once you earn enough XP, you are promoted to the next Player Level. With every new level comes new rewards, including weapons, gadgets, cosmetics, and more.

When first starting your journey you’ll have access to a varied set of Specialists, weapons, vehicles and gadgets. This allows you to discover several playstyles before you come across further unlocks during the leveling up process.

battlefield 2042 progression

There’s a lot of hardware for you to unlock in Battlefield 2042 as you progress through Player Levels. However, the journey doesn’t begin and end with just collecting weapons and gadgets.

Mastery

Hardware you unlock has its own mastery-based progression journey, with you earning new unlocks for reaching certain criteria with that hardware. For example, score enough kills with the M5A3 assault rifle to unlock a new scope. Or for a vehicle, gain new equipment as you use it to accomplish goals (like capturing points).

battlefield 2042 progression

At certain Mastery milestones such as performing 40 kills with a weapon, you’ll also gain cosmetics for that hardware such as a new skin, and a new tier of Mastery Badge you acquire to decorate your Player Card and boast about your achievements.

Earning the top Mastery rewards for hardware and Specialist is a monumental task, with each cosmetic acknowledging your dedication and skill level. A great way to show off your skills to your fellow players!

The Player Card

With Battlefield 2042, you’ll have a customizable Player Card that will allow you to show off your Player Level, Player Icon and Title, Player Card Art (background) and up to three Badges you’ve earned by mastering your weapons, vehicles, gadgets and Specialists. Your Player Level, or later S-level, is determined by your overall progression, with no separate levels tied to class or weapon and vehicle performance.

You’ll be able to see and customize your own Player Card via the Play screen. Of course, when you are killed by another player you’ll be reminded that they got the better of you through seeing their Player Card in the kill screen. Lastly, you’ll be able to view the Player Cards in the end of round screen, and various other areas throughout the game.

battlefield 2042 progression

As you play, you’ll earn customization items (such as new Player Card Art, and Player Icons and Titles) for your Player Card through Player Level progression, or unique action and discoveries you make while playing the game. As for what those actions and discoveries entail, we’re looking forward to you exploring and finding out for yourself when the game launches.

Cross-progression

As a reminder, we also have cross-progression functionality within Battlefield 2042, which will be shared across all platforms and travel with you wherever you go as long as you play on the same EA account. This means your unlocked progress and completed purchases in your PlayStation® copy of the game will carry over onto the Xbox or PC version, and vice versa.

For example, your new unlocked skin for your M5A3 assault rifle on PlayStation®, alongside your in-game progress such as Player Level and Mastery, carries with you if you now choose to jump into the action on Xbox Series X|S.

While there are a few limitations to cross-progression we want to make you aware of, such as Special Edition cosmetics, the Digital Artbook & Soundtrack, unspent Premium Currency and pre-order items not carrying over, we’re excited about giving you the freedom to play and progress wherever you choose to play.

Cosmetics

Battlefield 2042 will have a wide variety of cosmetics to give you flexibility when it comes to choosing appearances for your Specialists and Loadout, enabling you to express yourself on the Battlefield in a way that’s important to you.

You’ll be able to earn cosmetics through gameplay, or by purchasing them.

Skins

There are multiple ways of earning skins and cosmetics for Specialists, weapons and vehicles. These cosmetics are available in the following rarities:

  • Common (Grey)
  • Rare (Blue)
  • Epic (Purple)
  • Legendary (Gold)

Rare and Epic Specialist skins have both a Headgear component and a Body component. You can mix and match Headgears with different bodies if you wish. However, Legendary skins are a single outfit and cannot be mixed with any other skin.

battlefield 2042 progression

Weapon skins apply to the whole weapon. Whatever attachments you have on your weapons will be affected by the skin you have applied. You’ll also be able to unlock weapon charms, all of which can be equipped on nearly every weapon in the game.

Specific to vehicles, you’ll also be able to modify your vehicles with skins and decals.

Battlefield 2042 will also have unlockable melee weapons earned through Player Levels and progression, all of which have their own unique Takedown animation tied to them.

Battlefield 2042 is set to be released on November 19, 2021.
