Death Stranding Sales Now at Over 5 Million Units

Looks like Kojima Productions and its big boss Hideo Kojima have earned quite the achievement for their very first IP, as Death Stranding has sold over five million copies on PS4 and PC — with the company celebrating the good news while also stating that the upcoming director’s cut will have big improvements over the original game.

In an interview with GamesIndustry, Kojima Productions Head of Publishing Jay Boor shared the news that Death Stranding has performed quite well — sharing the numbers as of the first quarter of this year.

“As of March 2021, Death Stranding has sold through over five million units worldwide on PlayStation 4 and PC.”\

In addition to celebrating the sales numbers, Boor reiterated that the company is optimistic about the release of Death Stranding Director’s Cut — and emphasized that the new version of the game for PS5 will feature new several enhancements visual and gameplay wise.

“Death Stranding’s core component is its Social Strand System, which is a unique asynchronous multiplayer feature that enables players to connect with other players from around the globe through a variety of in-game actions. The Director’s Cut will expand on this system and we will be sharing more on that in the weeks to come.

“In addition, Director’s Cut will also include visual and performance upgrades that take full advantage of the PlayStation 5’s next-gen features, as well as a variety of new content developed from the ground up. We’re introducing new missions and added storylines, more weapons, vehicles and equipment, we’ve even added a racing mode and online leaderboards as well.

If you missed out on the details for Death Stranding Director’s Cut including the download size and pre-order details, read up on it here.

COD Warzone Free Tier Skips Now Available for Free for PlayStation Gamers

Those playing Call of Duty Warzone and want a little help with their Battle Pass progress, Sony is giving away 20 COD Warzone free tier skips on the PlayStation Store!

Players who click the link will be able to redeem it and will see the following image once they do:

For now, it seems this offer isn’t available for everyone who logs in to PSN, though we’re unsure how Sony determines who gets it (chances are, it’s those who play Warzone quite often). No word on whether Xbox gamers are also getting the same deal (if you’re on Xbox and/or PC, and you see the same deal, let us know via email), but if we get confirmation of that, we’ll be sure to update the post.

In other COD Warzone news, if you’re annoyed at the hackers plaguing the game, just know that Raven Software is working on it, as the studio has banned over 50,000 accounts in its latest ban wave! Cheat makers are also getting targeted by Activision, as the latest cheat maker that claims its cheats can work on consoles, needed to stop development thanks to Activision’s interference.

Thanks, Bravo Six!

Splitgate Launch Delayed to Aug. 2 After 2 Million Players Flood Servers

Following Splitgate’s servers shutdown due to some much-needed optimization, 1047 Games has announced that the Splitgate launch has been delayed to August 2 following over two million players downloading the beta! The free-to-play game was originally set to launch on July 27 on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series, PS4 and PS5.

More details regarding the server scaling and more have been detailed in the press release.

Free online portal shooter Splitgate will remain in open beta into next month as 1047 Games has delayed the game’s official launch in the wake of 2 million players downloading the game and flooding the Splitgate servers in the past 14 days. The game’s open beta will remain online as the team works to scale server capacity to handle the exponential growth of the player base.

Tuesday’s pre-release beta version will feature the three new maps, and all-new customization options. It will also include many frequently requested features from its open beta, including mouse and keyboard support and an FOV slider on console, and customizable controller layouts.
In addition to that impressive announcement, 1047 Games has also announced $10M_ round of funding led by Human Capital! Here’s what CEO and studio Co-Founder Ian Proulx had to say:
Our team has been blown away by the incredible reception the Splitgate community has shown us. With the steep and sudden increase in players trying to access servers, we’re having to sort out a myriad of technical issues that come with this level of insane growth. We’ve worked hard to provide a high-quality game and experience, and our biggest challenge is simply to have enough capacity to serve the entire community.”
That’s why we’re excited for Human Capital to lead this latest funding round. In addition to providing capital necessary to increase server capacity and stability, they’ll help build the engineering team we need to create the best possible game for our players.

Apex Legends Emergence Gameplay Trailer Features Seer, New Weapons & More

Check out what’s coming to Apex Legends players this August 3!

Apex Legends Emergence Gameplay Trailer:

A visionary Legend, Seer harnesses a swarm of micro-drones to find a clear path to victory. With an artist’s perspective, he sees beauty in the chaos.

And there’s plenty of chaos to go around: thanks to overmining, World’s Edge is crumbling beneath the Legends’ feet. Seer’s not the only one with an eye for potential: Rampart’s taken the opportunity to invent a new LMG that turns Thermite Grenades into literal firepower. Call it the Rampage.

Keep your gaze steady and your feet light when Apex Legends: Emergence launches on August 3. These might just be the most dangerous Games yet.

Apex Legends™ is a free-to-play hero shooter game where legendary characters battle for glory, fame, and fortune on the fringes of the Frontier. Play for free now on PlayStation® 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Origin and Steam.

Here’s what to expect when Emergence drops next week!

  • New Legend Seer: Seer is a mysterious outcast that offers a new way of seeing enemies. Seer’s abilities are a sight to behold as he uses sensors and drones to hunt with surgical precision.

  • New Weapon Rampage LMG: ‘Ring the party’ with Rampart’s newest invention, the Rampage LMG, which packs a powerful punch, and with a charge from Thermite Grenades, can be revved up for a faster fire rate.

  • World’s Edge Map Update: Hammond continues to tear apart World’s Edge with a rebirth and overhaul of the map in store for Emergence which includes changes to some of the map’s most popular POIs.

  • Ranked Arenas: Apex Legends continues its investment in Arenas with the introduction of Ranked Arenas, which will allow players to prove themselves as Apex Predators in either Arenas or Battle Royale mode for the first time ever, or show that they’re the ultimate Champion by conquering both.

  • New Arenas to Conquer: The Arenas map rotation gets another refresh with three new POI’s that will rotate throughout the season including Hillside, Dome, and Oasis.

Once the patch is out, we’ll be sure to let our readers know.

  • Fixed a graphical glitch in the Twitch vote UI.

  • The extra resource bars (overcharge, energy & career ability) are now displaced upwards whenever Twitch mode is active so they don’t overlap with the vote UI.

  • Changed the Okri’s challenges summary to tally claimed instead of completed challenges. This solves an issue that would show that there were incomplete challenges even though all challenges were claimed.

  • Fixed illusions showing “n/a Illusion” in tooltips instead of the item that they can be applied to.

CHAOS WASTES

  • Fixed an issue where the mouse cursor could remain on-screen and interactive when the player leaves the game whilst the party is in a Map Shrine.

  • Animated Portrait Frames should now properly animate on the Chaos Wastes UI.

  • Player levels should now display properly when invoking the player list within the Map Shrine UI.

Cinder Peak

  • Fixed some land geometry that just wasn’t up to par.

  • Fixed a spot where terrain wasn’t solid, and adjusted a chest and enemy spawn point to suit.

  • Made optimisations to reduce hits to FPS in areas with a lot of lava.

  • Fixed some bits that weren’t network synching properly.

The Foetid Gorge

  • Fixed an issue where a player disconnecting with a barrel could softlock the level.

  • Fixed various spots where players and bots could get stuck.

  • Fixed an issue where Olesya could repeat event VO once the event had ended if a player re-entered the area which triggers said VO line.

Not a bad update! Once we know of the next one, we’ll let our readers know.

Vigilance 2099 Aiming for Consoles & PC Release; Could Feature a Nemesis-Inspired System

In case you haven’t heard, there’s a new Cyberpunk/ Blade Runner/Prey 2-inspired game in development called Vigilance 2099. While the small three-person studio is currently in early stages of development, they have recently shown off some short snippets of gameplay, along with revealing some of their potential plans, including a console release.

Vigilance 2099 Gameplay Teaser

Do mind that the current gameplay you are about to see is from a prototype version, meaning it is very early and has a lot of noticeable technical and graphical issues.

Yeah, it definitely needs more work, but again this was just an early look from a prototype build. Considering three people made this, it isn’t all that bad either and shows some potential.

What’s more, the devs at Envoidant Studios opened up a bit more on their official Discord channel, confirming that while no platforms are announced as of it, they are aiming to release Vigilance 2099 on the PC, PlayStation, and Xbox console.

What platforms will the game be on?

Too soon to say but we aim to have it available on PC, PlayStation and Xbox.

This could potentially change down the road as the studio is currently in talks with publishers about funding the title, though if that doesn’t end up happening they are considering opening a Kickstarter to fund it.

Now for those wondering whether this will be a full open-world, the team confirmed it though it won’t be a very large one as they wanted to make it feel “tight” with the goal of being content filled.

The game will be decently sized open world. The city will be split into 3 distinct sections stacking on top one another. The wealthiest at the top, middle class at the middle section and the most unfortunate at the bottom. We want to avoid having a large world just for the sake of it, making ground level of each sector feel tight yet content filled is our main goal.

Other details such as character and vehicle customizations were also confirmed along with a feature list which you can find below.

  • Driving – Air Models or ground vehicles
  • Parkour
  • Shooting
  • Slight hand to hand combat (takedowns, counters)
  • Interrogations – NPC’s and bounties
  • Hacking
  • Negotiation – Deals with bounties to accept alternate rewards to let them go

All of these are currently in prototype with an additional feature known as the “Outlaw System” being planned. The developers state they don’t want to over promise anything, but describe the Outlaw System being similar to the Nemesis System from Shadow of Mordor. They state that bounties that escape from players will remember and have more upgrades if a player chooses to go after them again.

That all sounds pretty awesome to us, and hopefully the studio is able to surprise us once there is a better build to be shown off. We will definitely keep an eye on this one, and hopefully will hear about it some more soon.

Amazon’s MMO “New World” Takes Steam Best Seller Spot, Beta Reaches 200K Concurrent Users

It would seem that Amazon may have their first major hit, as their latest MMO, “New World,” has become a Steam top seller along with the beta hitting a massive milestone.

Opening to players this past week as a closed beta, Amazon’s”New World MMO saw a large number of concurrent players, with a 24-hour high reaching a little over 200,000.

To put that into perspective, Final Fantasy 14, another MMO that’s based on Final Fantasy, recently broke its own Steam concurrent player count a month ago, exceeding 47,000 users in a 24 hour period. Of course that doesn’t take into account players from other platforms such as PlayStation, and Square Enix’s own launcher, but it does speak pretty good volume since the only way to get into the close beta is either by buying a copy or being invited.

Not bad for a new IP that isn’t even officially out yet, though the numbers don’t end there as it has also hit not one, but two top spots on the Steam selling charts.

Now you may be wondering how does a game hit two top spots? Well this is mostly likely because of the different editions available, which makes this a bit more impressive.

About New World:

Explore a thrilling, open-world MMO filled with danger and opportunity where you’ll forge a new destiny for yourself as an adventurer shipwrecked on the supernatural island of Aeternum. Endless opportunities to fight, forage, and forge await you among the island’s wilderness and ruins. Channel supernatural forces or wield deadly weapons in a classless, real-time combat system, and fight alone, with a small team, or in massed armies for PvE and PvP battles—the choices are all yours.

New World Trailer

For those interested in partaking in the closed beta ahead of its August 31 launch, you can do so by either pre-ordering the Digital Deluxe Edition, or by signing up with your Amazon account on the official New World website.

Splitgate Servers Down for Optimization, Devs Tease Tuesday Update

Players hoping to jump in on the open beta of Splitgate tonight may be saddened to hear that the servers are down for some planned optimizations as the developers have confirmed that they are preparing for the release this Tuesday.

Announcing on their Twiiter account, Splitgate has been taken offline for the night in order for developers to prepare the servers something coming on Tuesday. While no exact details as to what is happening on Tuesday was provided, the studio did promise that we would hear more about it later tomorrow, or today depending on where you live.

Update (7/26/2021): Here’s the latest update from the studio, regarding the Tuesday roll out of the servers and whatnot:

The servers will be completely down until Tuesday for those wondering.

Earlier today they mentioned that servers were taking long to get into due to the amount of growth (users) they were getting.

If we were to take a guess, perhaps this announcement is related to server increases, though we would also bet on potentially more content getting revealed. Guess we won’t know until later today, till then stay-tuned!

Dead Space Remake to Evolve Dismemberment Mechanics, Improve Accessibility to a Broader Set of People

Undoubtedly, one of the biggest games shown off (if not the biggest) during last week’s EA Play Live was the reveal that Dead Space is back! Confirmed to be a Dead Space remake, and developed by EA’s Motive Studios (Star Wars Squadrons), the studio has opened up a bit about the remake’s development.

For those who have already played the Dead Space trilogy, one of the most memorable parts of the game is how you can slice off limbs and parts of monsters, and use it against them. This dismemberment mechanic has become one of Dead Space’s trademark,s and it looks like we’ll be seeing it back in full force in the Dead Space remake, but with a little bit more oomph added to them.

Creative Director Roman Campos-Oriola mentioned that the studio is looking to “evolve” the dismemberment mechanics, and they’re not just looking to make it gorier, but hope to evolve this core combat mechanic. In addition to that, Campos-Oriola mentioned that Motive is also looking to implement the options that weren’t available 12 years ago back when the original launched, to make the game more accessible to all sets of audiences.

Something that is also really important for us that was not there 12 years ago… is all those options or different ways to play the game if you need it. All those elements of accessibility will definitely be something important for us in terms of opening the Dead Space experience to a broader set of people that didn’t necessarily have the opportunity or could play the game when it came out

This is definitely exciting news, as it seems we’ll be getting a better toolset within the game to combat necromorphs and other monsters.

Dead Space has no release date yet but is set to hit the PS5, Xbox One, and PC.

Lawsuit Issued to Activision Blizzard Over Sexual Harassment and “Frat Boy” Culture

While we here at MP1st has usually refrained from posting news not related to gaming, the Activision-Blizzard lawsuit regarding workplace sexual harassment, and toxicity among women was a tad too much that we want to make people aware that this is happening, and is is a serious allegation against the Call of Duty publisher.

Activision-Blizzard is facing some major allegations, as the state of California has filed for a lawsuit against the publisher over a number of explicit, and highly detailed, sexual harassment incidents against it’s employees.

As reported by Bloomberg, the court documents, which can be read here, go into grueling details of the mistreatment that many women faced while employed at the company during during the two year investigation done by the DHA. It goes to detail that male employees would often make sexual jokes, and openly talk about rape at the workplace in front of their female colleagues.

DHA notes that the company’s workforce comprises of 20% of female, and that they are subjected to a “frat boy” culture with male employees consuming alcohol while on the job and crawling through cubicles while making sexual suggestions towards the women workers.

What’s more, women who were pregnant or otherwise expecting would be given lower roles, pay, and even be passed on possible promotions.

“assigned women to lower paid and lower opportunity levels and roles, delayed their career advancement, denied them promotional opportunities afforded to their male counterparts, and refused to promote women because they might get pregnant even when women performed higher level work for extended periods of time.”

Women of color faced even harsher sexual harassment, as they would be singled out and micromanaged, according to the court docs.

Even worse, one unnamed female employees allegedly committed suicide due to the harassment after an employee shared some very private photos of her with co-workers.

A follow up statement from Activision was received from the Verge, claiming that the DHE is falsifying the report:

We value diversity and strive to foster a workplace that offers inclusivity for everyone. There is no place in our company or industry, or any industry, for sexual misconduct or harassment of any kind. We take every allegation seriously and investigate all claims. In cases related to misconduct, action was taken to address the issue.

The DFEH includes distorted, and in many cases false, descriptions of Blizzard’s past. We have been extremely cooperative with the DFEH throughout their investigation, including providing them with extensive data and ample documentation, but they refused to inform us what issues they perceived. They were required by law to adequately investigate and to have good faith discussions with us to better understand and to resolve any claims or concerns before going to litigation, but they failed to do so. Instead, they rushed to file an inaccurate complaint, as we will demonstrate in court. We are sickened by the reprehensible conduct of the DFEH to drag into the complaint the tragic suicide of an employee whose passing has no bearing whatsoever on this case and with no regard for her grieving family. While we find this behavior to be disgraceful and unprofessional, it is unfortunately an example of how they have conducted themselves throughout the course of their investigation. It is this type of irresponsible behavior from unaccountable State bureaucrats that are driving many of the State’s best businesses out of California.

The picture the DFEH paints is not the Blizzard workplace of today. Over the past several years and continuing since the initial investigation started, we’ve made significant changes to address company culture and reflect more diversity within our leadership teams. We’ve amplified internal programs and channels for employees to report violations, including the “ASK List” with a confidential integrity hotline, and introduced an Employee Relations team dedicated to investigating employee concerns. We have strengthened our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and combined our Employee Networks at a global level, to provide additional support. Employees must also undergo regular anti-harassment training and have done so for many years.

We put tremendous effort in creating fair and rewarding compensation packages and policies that reflect our culture and business, and we strive to pay all employees fairly for equal or substantially similar work. We take a variety of proactive steps to ensure that pay is driven by non-discriminatory factors. For example, we reward and compensate employees based on their performance, and we conduct extensive anti-discrimination trainings including for those who are part of the compensation process.

We are confident in our ability to demonstrate our practices as an equal opportunity employer that fosters a supportive, diverse, and inclusive workplace for our people, and we are committed to continuing this effort in the years to come. It is a shame that the DFEH did not want to engage with us on what they thought they were seeing in their investigation.

We’re gonna level with all our readers here. This is very sickening to read, and in no way do we support these acts at anytime, be it in the work place, or at at home, in public, anywhere. While these claims are all allege, meaning they need to be verified before any due process can be passed, there is an obligation we must uphold in reporting these claims to the public. No one should ever have to be treated like this, nor should anyone ever have to be scared to go into work, or out in public because of this. It’s disgusting, and disrespectful.

This needs to change, as a industry, no as people, we are better than this.

We will continue to monitor this as it develops further but hopefully a resolution is reached and if this is found to be true, the involved parties are dealt with.

Battlefield 2042 AI Bots Will Be “Really Hard” to Tell Apart From Humans Says Devs

With Battlefield 2042 confirmed to feature AI bots (that can’t be turned off) to make sure servers stay full constantly, some might be wondering how these Battlefield 2042 AI bots will react in-game. As it turns out, very well, it looks like — at least according to Ripple Effect Studios, who’s co-developing Battlefield 2042 alongside the main studio over at DICE Sweden.

Talking about the difficulty of the AI in Battlefield 2042’s Battlefield Portal modem Design Director Justin Wiebte of Ripple Effect Studios states that players will have a “really hard” time telling the difference between AI bots and real human players.

We’ve tried to put a lot of effort into making them play just like a player would. So it would be really hard for people to tell the difference between an AI and a real human player because they will run around, they will drive vehicles, they will pick each other up, they will drop [each other] off at objective locations and things like that – it’s a very intelligent system. And then you can tweak and tune some of the things they are and aren’t allowed to do, including how difficult they are to play against.

This is very encouraging to hear. If the AI bots are really this good in-game, I suspect some players would rather have these as squad mates rather than human players, since some of the latter fail at doing the most basic of team-oriented tasks such as giving ammo, healing, and the like. That said, given how Battlefield 2042 AI bots are confirmed to not be able to use Specialties and Traits, they are severely limited in what they can do.

Steam Deck Targets a Minimum of 30fps, But Games Tested Have “Exceeded” That Count

This past week news broke that the Steam Deck would be targeting 30 frames-per-seconcd (fps) for games, with much of the PC community in disarray, though a Valve developer has come forward to clarify exactly what that means.

Taking to Twitter, Valve coder Pierre-Loup Griffais addressed the Steam Deck 30fps target, stating that it was the floor that the team was reaching for, and that games tested have exceeded that limit.

The “30 FPS target” refers to the floor of what we consider playable in our performance testing; games we’ve tested and shown have consistently met and exceeded that bar so far. There will also be an optional built-in FPS limiter to fine-tune perf vs. battery life.

From the sound of it, it seems that 30fps is the “sweet” spot between balancing the performance and battery life of the device, which is said to be 2-8 hours of gameplay depending on how much the performance is being pushed.

It will be very interesting to see how this all turns out. Considering this is essentially a handheld PC, users should be able to tune graphical settings. Meaning if they wanted a 60FPS experience, they should be able to fine-tune the graphic options, such as running low textures and shadows. Of course that’s speculative and we don’t know exactly how Valve plans to offer options in-games or if they will be predetermined.

We’ll just have to wait and find out later this year when the device is in the hands of consumers.

Halo Infinite Beta to Start as Soon as Next Weekend, Will Focus on Bots and Weapon Drills

Those looking forward to the Halo Infinite beta, 343 Industries has announced that the time is almost here, though it’ll be limited in scope, and it’ll focus on bots given it’s a new addition to the game.

According to 343, the Halo Infinte Flighting (beta) will focus on bots and Weapon Drills, as these two are brand new additions to the franchise.

This technical preview is intentionally focused on these specific areas to help us gather some scale data as we bring these new experiences to Halo for the first time. As we look further ahead, we plan for future flights to expand into more content including traditional PVP Arena and Big Team Battle.

With this and our higher-level feedback goals noted up above, we land on the following specific focal points. With this in mind, the focus areas for our technical preview are:

  • Arena gameplay vs. Bots
  • Arena Maps
  • Academy’s Weapon Drills
  • Menu & Battle Pass UI
  • New Waypoint experiences on web, iOS, and Android

To gather specific feedback on these areas, our first flight will contain the following content and experiences.

BOT ARENA

Halo Infinite is the franchise’s first foray into the world of multiplayer Bots. To provide a totally new multiplayer experience for players and to gather feedback on Bot behavior and online performance, we’ll be debuting the Bot Arena playlist, which puts 4 players against 4 Bots on Arena maps.

For this technical preview, the Bot Arena experience will feature Slayer across three maps in this build:

  •  Bot Slayer on Bazaar, Recharge, and Live Fire

To keep players on their toes and keep the experience engaging, we’re planning for a daily content offering that will evolve over the course of the flight based on the overall engagement of participants. We’re going to intentionally start things off slow to help everyone get acclimated but as the community gets up to speed and slays copious amount of Bots our goal is to crank things up to provide greater challenge and variety.

Bot Arena is a great place to familiarize yourself with Halo Infinite’s gameplay and maps in a stress-free environment. The Bots still have their quirks, which is why we’re flighting them, but they certainly aren’t pushovers. Be prepared.

Aside from bots, another new addition to Halo multiplayer is Infinite’s upcoming Academy Weapon Drills. This will offer players a new way to learn how each weapon works before fighting it out against other players. Players will be able to test it against bots for target practice, and there will be different levels of difficulty and a star rating system.

In the upcoming Halo Infinite beta debut,  343 is planning to include the following subset of Weapon Drills:

  • MA40 AR
  • BR75
  • MK50 Sidekick
  • CQS48 Bulldog
  • Needler
  • VK78 Commando
  • S7 Sniper
  • Plasma Pistol
  • Pulse Carbine
  • Ravager
  • Heatwave
  • Skewer

We Played Over 10 Hours of Aliens Fireteam Elite; Here’s Everything We Learned

There’s a new PvE shooter coming up, and it’s centered around the Alien film franchise. We’re, of course, talking about Aliens Fireteam Elite, which is bringing co-op, multiplayer action against Xenomorphs and more!

In case you haven’t already read it, be sure to check out our full preview impression of Aliens Fireteam Elite. The TLDR version of it all is that we absolutely loved it. Now, having spent a large amount of time with the game, there were certain things I just couldn’t fit into the preview. Therefore I have decided to compile a list of everything we learned during our time with the preview.

Hope you enjoy and learn something new!

Everything We Learned About Aliens Fireteam Elite From Over 10 Hours of Playtime:

  • Big one – You can turn off the Xenomorphs outlines and red cross (kill floater) via settings, regardless of what difficulty. You can even turn the motion tracker off. However, as far as we can tell, you cannot turn off the audio cue for getting a headshot.
  • There are four campaigns, each with three missions a piece.
  • Based on our playtime of the two campaigns, we are looking at an estimate of 6-9 hours for the campaign alone.
  • Afterwards you unlock two new difficulties (details below), one new class, and a new mode.
  • Horde mode is unlocked upon campaign completion per in-game description. Not available in preview.
  • Four classes are playable out of the gate with Recon unlocking after campaign completion. Not in preview build.
  • Each class is based in some way on a character from the movie. Gunner = Hicks, Demolisher = Vasquez, Technician = Hudson, and Doc = Dietrich.
  • Every class and gun has their own individual levels that unlocks perks and attachments. You as a player also has a level as a whole, which I believe has rewards such as credits, resources, attachments, an even cosmetics.
  • Each character has their own Grid loadout that has a total of 32 slots for perks. Think Tetris, where each perk is a specific size and you need to fit them in a certain way. Slots are locked at first, with class leveling unlocking them.
  • Some perks are exclusive to their class, with others being universal. You may need to play as a certain class however to unlock certain universal ones.
  • Most exclusive perks are related to class abilities. For example, you can change out the Demolishers Micro Rockets to Napalm, or Concussive Rockets. Technician can have their turret upgraded to a heavier damage, yet slower fire rate among other options.
  • Each class has two weapons slot. Certain classes can only use certain types of weapons, like a Medic can’t use a Smartgun for example.
  • There is a third weapon slot, however this is reserved for a stock pistol that cannot be upgraded or changed out.
  • The USS Endeavor (spaceship) serves as a hub in-between missions where players can talk to different NPCs. Some offer new story details, though the preview build may have been limited.
  • You can invite friends to your party and they will join you in the hub.
  • Not exactly a shooting range, but in the back of the USS Endeavor you will find a few cans that you can shoot at. You can freely test guns anywhere on the ship.
  • There is a vendor onboard the USS Endeavor that you will frequent, as they sell weapons, attachments, perks, and even customizations.
  • We were told that there are 30+ weapons with 70+ mods and attachments.
  • There are some customizations that fans may be familiar with, such as the UK-7 and US Tricentennial decals as seen in the first Alien movie.
  • The vendor also sells outfits and different headgear. Again, the preview build was pretty limited in this regard, we expect a lot more in the final release.
  • Consumables such as turrets, mines, drones, and more can be purchased from the vendor and equipped during the prepping stage of a mission. They can also be found within missions.
  • Every mission has a hidden cache that can reward consumables, attachments, and even cosmetics.
  • Character’s base appearances can be modified anytime in the hub via loadout menu.
  • Anyone in the party can pick a mission, this isn’t limited to just the party leader (host).
  • There are daily and weekly challenges that players can complete for credits, resources, and a random gun attachment.
  • If everyone is split from one another, and one user finds the hidden cache, every player gets notified.
  • The preview offered 3 of 5 difficulties, a full breakdown of all 5 is as follows:
    • Casual – For those looking for a more relaxed experience. Like standard, with the following changes:
      • Enemies have less health and deal less damage.
      • Reviving a teammate is quicker, and you can do so as many times as is needed.
      • Synthetic teammates are more effective.
    • Standard – Provide a good challenge for those familiar with shooters.
      • Enemies are highlighted when aiming down sights (this can be changed in the Gameplay Settings menu).
      • There’s plenty of tie to revive downed teammates, and each player can be revived up to four times.
    • Intense – The true Aliens experience, the way it is meant to be played. Seasoned survival shooter players should find a challenge here. Like Standard, with the following changes:
      • Enemies are not highlighted when aiming down sites (this CANNOT be changed via Gameplay Settings).
      • Your gun deal light damage to teammates.
      • Enemy melee grapples are more difficult to escape.
      • Xenomorph acid is deadlier.
      • Enemies deal more damage and have more health.
      • There’s less time to revive downed teammates, and each player can be revived only three times.
      • Max Ammo is reduced,
      • Synthetic teammates are not recommended.
    • Extreme – I can’t lie to you about your chances but… you have my sympathies. Unlocks after completing the full Campaign. Like Intense, with the following changes:
      • Your gun deal moderate damage to teammates.
      • Acid and enemies deal severe damage.
      • Enemies have even more health.
      • You’ll find fewer aid kits.
      • Max Ammo is further reduced.
      • There’s even less time to revive downed teammates, it takes longer to revive them, and each player can only be revived twice.
      • Synthetic teammates are not recommended.
    • Insane – That’s it man, Game over, man. Game over! Unlocks after completing the full campaign. Like Extreme, with the following changes:
      • Your gun deal full damage to teammates.
      • Enemies deal even more damage and have even more health.
      • Enemy grapple attacks can kill, and some foes have instantly-lethal grapples.
      • You have only seconds to save a downed teammate, and each can be revived just once.
      • Synthetic teammates are not recommended.
  • Acid actually does hurt if you walk into it, and on those higher difficulties its pretty lethal.
  • Every player in a party (up to 3) can pick a challenge card before deployment on a mission. These do not stack based on the preview and one will be selected at random. They are not mandatory and you can go into a mission without selecting and using one.
  • We aren’t sure how many different kinds of challenge cards there are. Last I checked, I had 26 available, with my co-op friends having some other ones I didn’t have. Expect a lot, and they are all different.
  • One challenge card introduced a new Xenomorph (Praetorian) that wasn’t in any of the 6 missions we played originally.
  • As mentioned in my preview, the AI companion bots are horrible and should only be used on the lower difficulties as recommended.
  • Enemy AI will change placement from time to time. We aren’t sure how this works for the general Mobs, but we did notice they sometimes spawn in different parts than in previous runs.
  • We also noticed in the first mission that some objectives will be skipped or be a little different than in previous runs. It’s not a drastic difference, but there were some alteration, such as bypassing a section altogether. We’re not sure what triggers this.
  • The Xenomorph’s AI is pretty fun to deal with. The different variants all feel like they have their own set of behaviors to follow, some with rush you, some will fight from a distance, while others will play stealthily and pop in and out of vents.
  • There are collectible audio logs that you find during each mission. These offer additional story details.
  • Some of the NPC will offer some lore, though the preview seemed limited in this regard.
  • It is recommended that you read the prequel book, Aliens Infiltration, as it will offer everything you need to know about the game’s story. For those who have read it, expect plenty of references and character’s fates to be revealed/concluded.
  • Game takes place roughly 20-25 years after Aliens 3.
  • All the locations are very H.R. Giger inspired, which is no surprise since he helped shaped Alien into what it is today. It’s just great seeing a studio capture it so well.
  • Some environments are so great looking that the developers even give you a moment to focus on them and have unique sound cues that play.
  • Working Joes along with a variety of new Synthetics are featured in the game. There will be references to Seegson Corporation, which many should recognize from Alien Isolation.
  • Speaking of Isolation, there is a Elite Xeno Drone that will spawn on the map from time to time. They tend to be sneaky, run and hide in vents and stalk you around like the one from Isolation.

There is a lot more stuff that we didn’t get to experience (and some I didn’t want to spoil,) but for the most these are all the major things we noticed during our two campaigns (four total). Honestly, a lot of work was put into Aliens Fireteam Elite, and you’ll get to see all of it come the August release. Till then, stay frosty and don’t be looking at weird, wet eggs.

Aliens Fireteam Elite is set for release this August 24 on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Report: Sony Updates PlayStation Home Trademark for the Second Time This Year

Remember PlayStation Home? Could this social space built just for the PlayStation platform be making a comeback? If recent trademark filings are to be believed, Sony seems to be cooking something up for it, as the company has updated the trademark for PlayStation Home three times in this year alone.

The first trademark update was three months ago, and the developer of PlayStation Home — London Studio (formerly Soho Studio) is somehow involved as well. If you check this trademark link (EUIPO), it’s connected to the Soho Engine which is mentioned in the same filing. The trademark update talks about hosting and staging online tournaments, social networking services, and much more. It’s essentially what PS Home was developed for.

Now, just last month, the Soho Engine trademark was updated as well, which you can read about here.

The most recent trademark update was July 21, which heavily implies something is up with the service.

>The person who found the filing, Reddit user Thorites, thinks this that PlayStation Home is set to be brought back, and will implement the next-gen PlayStation VR headset in some capacity (given the trademark updates are somehow connected to it).

Of course, we can’t say that for sure, but having said that, it is weird for Sony to update the PlayStation Home trademark this frequently in a span of a year. For reference, the “PlayStation Home” name has been renewed by Sony to be theirs until 2028.

PlayStation Home launchd back in December 2008 on the PS3, before it offically closed its doors on March 2015. One might say that it was ahead of its time back then, but the technology we have now makes it a lot more feasible to pull off — especially if you consider virtual concerts are being held in games (Fortnite, etc.).

Regarding Sony’s Lond Studio, the last update we had from the studio is that they are working on something that has “huge potential.”
