Official Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Logo Spotted in Dorito’s Promo Bags

Back in May, rumors surfaced that this year’s Call of Duty will be titled “Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War,” and will be tied to Treyarch’s series. It seems that rumor is true, as Dorito’s bags have been spotted with theofficial Black Ops Cold War logo!

As you can see in hte images below, the Dorito’s tie-in to the game will offer 2x XP, which is par for the course with the franchise.

The double XP promo begins on October 5, which suggests an October release for this year’s Call of Duty — even if it hasn’t been officially revealed just yet. However, the wait might not be long now, as Infinity Ward has been teasing changes to Call of Duty: Warzone, and rumors have pointed to this year’s Call of Duty title to be revealed within the free-to-play title. Not only that, but even Activision has mentioned how Warzone will be the title that bridges the other Call of Duty sub franchises. And even Infinity Ward has snuck in a Black Ops-related Easter egg in Warzone a few months ago.

With Season 5 for Modern Warfare & Warzone unonfirmed to start this August 5, we’re expecting the marketing to ramp up for not only Infinity Ward’s game(s), but also for this year’s Call of Duty title as well.

We’ve reached out to Activision and will update the post if we hear anything back.

343 Industries Comments on Halo Infinite Graphics Criticism

Just a few days ago, Microsoft showed the latest Xbox Games Showcase event where Halo Infinite gameplay was shown off to millions of gamers around the world. Unfortunately, instead of impressing the heck out of gamers everywhere, the gameplay drew flack, as the Halo Infinite graphics criticism was heard all around the social media sphere.

This sentiment wasn’t lost on developer 343 Industries. In a press Q&A event, 343 studio head Chris Lee touched upon the Halo Infinite graphics criticism, here’s what he had to say:

Chris Lee: I think for the response on the graphics, the thing I hope is that folks get a chance to check out our 4K streaming assets, I think that really lets our game show itself in full fidelity. We are definitely still very much in development, we have some polishing and tuning that the team is working on to really bring the full potential of our experience to our fans later this year in Halo Infinite. We definitely are excited about the ambition of the title, of this open expansive campaign and we’ll make sure that it’s polished and ready to go when fans get their hands on it this Holiday.

The gameplay demo is a great example of how we’re running on Xbox Series X, you’ll be able to run at a solid 60 frames per second at up to 4K resolution. We’re bringing the highest fidelity experience that we’ve ever created. We’re able to do more than 10 times the processing power per pixel that we were able to do in Halo 5, which just allows us to create this experience that’s unlike anything that we’ve had in Halo before. In Halo Infinite we’ve really harnessed a lot of advanced rendering techniques, but also the immense power of the Xbox Series X.

As someone who’s looking forward to getting an Xbox Series X at launch, I have to admit, the next-gen console’s killer app hasn’t exactly make me excited enough that I feel like I need to get the console for the title. Hopefully 343 Industries can polish it up a bit and make it stand out more when it’s shown again later this year.

GTA Online and Red Dead Online Updates Arriving in the “Coming Weeks”

If you’re a GTA Online and/or Red Dead Online player, and you’re bummed at Rockstar for not updating both games recently, that’s about to change. Rockstar has announced that there are GTA Online and Red Dead Online updates that are set to drop to players in the “coming weeks!”

While the exact details of these drops haven’t been revealed, we are given a glimpse at ’em. There’s going to be a new nature-focused Frontier Pursuit Role for Red Dead Online, a Summer Update for GTA Online, and more. The next update for Read Dead Online is set to drop this January 28 and Rockstar calls it a “massive” update.

With both games playing home to more players than ever before in recent months, we know the community has been awaiting news of any updates for GTA Online and Red Dead Online and we are happy to share that both games will receive exciting new updates in the weeks ahead.

For Red Dead Online, players can expect a massive new update to arrive Tuesday, July 28th featuring a new Frontier Pursuit that will introduce players to the secrets of naturalism as part of an all-new Role, plus a new Outlaw Pass, tons of community-requested features and fixes, and much more to play and discover in the months to come.

A summer update to GTA Online is also on the way, offering up a fun mix of diverse new content from the game’s massive array of experiences to enjoy.

Aside from the summer updates, players can expect more updates “later this year” for both titles, and these include new extensions and augmentatons to an existing role in Red Dead Online, and the “biggest ever update” for GTA Online, which will feature a new location, and a new take on Heists.

Once we know more info about both, we’ll be sure to let our readers know.

Infinity Ward Issues Message to Cheaters (Update #2)

Infinity Ward has now issued a new message to Warzone cheaters! In the statement, Infinity Ward states that cheaters will not be tolerated, and this include stuff such as third-party software like hex editors, aimbots, wallhacks, stats hacks and more. Those caught cheating will be banned.

In other Call of Duty Warzone and Modern Warfare news, a bunch of teasers have surfaced online hinting at a massive change in Verdanks in Season 5! It also seems that the official Call of Duty Instagram has posted a picture of Sgt. Frank Woods from Black Ops, which could hint at something.

Earlier we reported on a potential Modern Warzone leak for Call of Duty Mobile. We have since then removed this piece of information due to a misunderstanding, as the content in question has been confirmed to be just the standard BR mode in COD Mobile.

We’lve emailed Activision about the COD Mobile Warzone gameplay and we’ve gotten a statement that it was fake. Updated the post, with update notes below.

Update: Activision has informed us that the 10-minute clip is just the standard COD Mobile Battle Royale, and is not Warzone. We’ve updated the post with the different intro from the same source, and will monitor the post.

Update #2: Yep, amended the post to take out the fake stuff. Apologies, everyone. We’ve amended the post to just relay the announcement by Infinity Ward.

Why Gambling is Integral to Red Dead Redemption 2

Red Dead Redemption 2 launched late in 2018, and was given a number of Game of the Year awards for that same year. Since then we’ve seen the launch of Red Dead Redemption Online, an open world where groups of players can get together and play like they’re living in the old west. It’s a game that has become many people’s all-time favourites, and yet this is a game in which gambling is integral.

I’m not talking about betting real world money, but rather from the perspective of gambling within video games. Card games and other forms of betting were a natural part of the world in the time period depicted in the game. It wouldn’t make sense not to include it. However, Rockstar Games, the developer, has gone further than just including it, they’ve made it an essential part of the game for many players.

Challenge Accepted

There are various challenges in Red Dead Redemption 2. These award players for completing certain activities in-game. These are generally geared towards getting players to experience everything that the game has to offer. If someone simply plays through the game as fast as possible, then they’ll miss a huge chunk of the content. If they take the time to complete every challenge, and earn 100% completion, though, they’ll have experienced almost everything in the game.

A set of those challenges are all to do with gambling. There are ten Gambler Challenges in total. You can only progress from one to the other by completing the first. They start out simple by requiring you to win five hands of Poker. This can be easily done by just going all-in straight away, scaring off most, if not all, of the other players.

As you progress through the Gambler Challenges you’ll be taking on games of Blackjack, Five Finger Fillet, and even bust Poker Locations. The challenges get harder and harder as you progress, but they also show you more of the game, and more of the mechanics. For example, you may never bust a Poker Table in the game without a challenge, because there’s nothing in the game that tells you that it’s possible to win so much that you win everything.

Towards the end of the Gambler Challenges you need to be skilled in Dominoes and Poker. You have to win a certain number of games in a row, which is no easy feat for someone who hasn’t spent time playing these mini-games. In this way, the game first teaches you about the mini-games, has you play enough to understand them, and then puts your skills to the test.

By skipping the Gambler Challenges you can completely miss this sense of progression, and something that’s integral to Red Dead Redemption 2.

This is all without mentioning the presence of gambling in Red Dead Redemption Online. There players can get together and play a game of Poker together, battling against one another with something worse than weapons, luck.

It may seem odd that such a big part of the game is left to be discovered by players, or not, but that’s part and parcel of an open world game. Players may speed through the story and never engage in the living breathing elements of what’s around them. There will always be players who immerse themselves in these aspects of a game though, be it for self-satisfaction, or 100 percent completion. As long as there are players like this, and huge open worlds like the one in Red Dead Redemption 2, activities like gambling will be integral to video games.

BioWare Has Internal Builds of Battlefield Anthem & Anthem Battle Royale; Pirates Teased for Reboot

Remember Anthem? While we already know BioWare is back in the dev room to overhaul the game, not much info about it has been shared so far other than its in the “incubation stage” as recent as two months ago. Well, as it turns out, BioWare has a couple of stuff incubating, and some of ’em include a “Battlefield Anthem,” and even an “Anthem Battle Royale” mode.

Before anyone dives in, note that these  two modes are for internal testing purposes only, and are NOT guaranteed to be released to the gaming public. This little nugget of info was shared by Studio Director Christian Dailey over on Twitter, where he answered a fan’s query regarding PvP, and where he (Dailey) also shared what appears to be concept art for the Anthem reboot.

In addition to that, Dailey also teased concept art for what appears to be a pirate-themed Javelin!  It’s called “Pirates of Blood Wind,” and it looks quite badass, I might add. Note that like the modes mentioned above, these are in no way guaranteed to appear in the game as DLC or in the rebooted version.

Dailey also confirmed that there will be a “refresh” to the map and radar, which should please freelancers everywhere.

As for when the next update from the studio will be made public, Dailey shared that he has started on it, but wouldn’t divulge as to when exactly we’ll get the blog post.

Again, I want to stress that BioWare has not confirmed that a Battlefield Anthem or Anthem Battle Royale game/mode is in the cards, and this is just for internal playtesting purposes.

While the chances of us seeing a Battlefield Anthem or Anthem Battle Royale are slim, I do admit, an Anthem game that plays like DICE’s Battlefield franchise has me very, very intrigued. Who knows though, maybe one day we’ll get it. Let’s just hope BioWare nails the reboot out of the park first.

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide Announced

Developer Fatshark has announced Warhammer 40,000: Darktide — a new, four-player co-op first-person action game that’s steeped in the Warhammer universe! Darktide is being developed by the same folks who created Warhammer: Vermintide!

The title was revealed during Microsoft’s Xbox Games Showcase. Check out the atomospheric trailer below.

So, what is Warhammer 40,000: Darktide? We’re sticking with a formula we know and are known for – 4 player co-op first-person action in a rich, established universe with lashings of attention to detail to serve existing 40k fans and onboard new players to that grim-dark world.

Everyone in the studio is absolutely enthralled with the Warhammer universes created by Games Workshop. Many of the founding members of the studio met through playing tabletop Warhammer games, and from those experiences and the love for the franchises the concept of Vermintide and, in turn, the upcoming Darktide, was born. Anyone who knows Warhammer Fantasy can tell you how well we captured that world in Vermintide, so you can expect even more love and uncompromising levels of detail to be poured into our slice of the Warhammer 40k universe with Darktide.

Darktide will focus on both melee and ranged combat, and Fatshark says it will offer players “diverse choices and gameplay styles” through the hybrid combat experience the title is aiming for.

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is set to punch its way out onto the Xbox Series X and PC. No word on whether it’ll be hitting other platforms, but we’re assuming it will hit the PS5 at some point given Microsoft didn’t say it was an exclusive.

Modern Warfare Black Ops Tie-in Found in Datamine, Official Instagram Account Teases Frank Woods

It looks like it’s finally happening, folks! It seems we’re very close to the Call of Duty 2020 reveal, and it’s being done with a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Black Ops crossover of sorts! Backing up rumors that this year’s Call of Duty (which has been confirmed to be in development by Treyarch), will be revealed in Call of Duty: Warzone, the Black Ops franchise’s Sgt. Frank Woods is being introduced into Modern Warfare and Warzone as a character skin!

Reliable dataminer BKTOOR has posted a datamined video of Sgt. Frank Woods’ Operator voice line quips in Modern Warfare!

If that’s not enough of a tease, the official Call of Duty Instagram posted a thank you note for reaching 10 million followers, and in the last image, there’s none other than Frank Woods!

https://www.instagram.com/p/CC_m5JSjScw/

While that’s not an outright confirmation, the addition of Frank Woods to a new social media post today seems to be perfect timing with how the teasers released by Infinity Ward indicates a massive change is coming to Call of Duty: Warzone Season 5. Not only are we expecting a map shake up in Warzone this Season 5, but we’re expecting that this year’s Cal of Duty, which is expected to be connected to the Black Ops franchise by Treyarch, will be announced soon too.

We’re expecting more Modern Warfare and Warzone Season 5 teases soon, and we wouldn’t be surprised to see something Black Ops-related teased as well.

Thanks, ModernWarzone

Overwatch Update 2.94 July 23 Changes Now Live

Blizzard Entertainment has released a small update for Overwatch and it’s live now! The Overwatch update 2.94 July 23 patch brings bug fixes and gameplay-related changes. Read on below for the patch notes.

Overwatch update 2.94 July 23 patch notes:

GENERAL UPDATES

General

Echo

  • Audio volume and distance have been reduced for an enemy Echo’s passive hover sound
  • Audio directionality improvements have been made for an enemy Echo’s hover and tri-shot weapon fire sounds

After the initial release for Echo, we made some audio-level changes to address concerns that Echo was too quiet in combat. Those changes increased the enemy Echo’s volume and also increased the distance at which the hero could be heard pertaining to her passive hover. After more feedback, we feel like those initial attempts to adjust Echo were too drastic. In this patch, re-adjustments were made to lower enemy Echo’s passive hover sound in volume slightly, and reign in the distance at which the sound is heard to have more consistency with other Hero footsteps in the Overwatch roster. Additional adjustments were made to both the enemy echo passive hover sound and tri-shot weapon fire sounds to help pinpoint directionality.

Overwatch update 2.94 July 23 BUG FIXES

General
  • Fixed a bug that displayed player presence as being in the Arcade while playing a Competitive Open Queue match
  • Fixed a bug with the end of match and end of season UI displaying incorrect values for your career high SR
  • Fixed a bug in custom games that caused forward spawn rooms to be active for players on Deathmatch maps such as Temple of Anubis, Hanamura and Volskaya
Heroes

Brigitte

  • Fixed a bug that could cause continuous armor decay for heroes with inherent armor when receiving multiple Repair Pack charges

Wrecking Ball

  • Fixed a bug where Wrecking Ball could hit an enemy much faster than intended with Roll Damage

That’s it, basically. If you spot any changes not mentioned above, let us know down in the comments.

Borderlands 3 Update 1.15 July 23 Hotfix Now Out

Gearbox Software has released a new hotfix for Borderlands 3 and it’s live now! The Borderlands 3 update 1.15 July 23 patch might be called a hotfix, but you’ll still need to download it. The full patch notes below are listed below, and yes, it involves gameplay-related changes.

Borderlands 3 update 1.15 July 23 patch notes:

NEW QUALITY OF LIFE CHANGES

LEGENDARY FIRING MODE FOR FABRICATOR

The Fabricator now has an alternate firing mode called Legendary that spawns between 1 to 3 Legendary weapons for 250 Eridium. You will switch into this alternate firing mode like any other weapon and will see purple effects when firing the Fabricator.

MISSION REWARDS AVAILABLE IN VETERAN REWARDS VENDING MACHINE

Players can now purchase previously rewarded mission rewards in the Veteran Rewards Machine just outside of Crazy Earl’s door on Sanctuary III. As missions are completed, their rewards are added to the pool and can be purchased using Eridium!

LEGENDARY GEAR AVAILABLE IN VENDING MACHINES

We have rebalanced vending machines based on community feedback. Vending machines of all type have a small chance of providing Legendary gear for purchase. We’ve also removed Uncommon (green) Rarity gear from the Item of the Day pool.

CHESTS AND BADASS REWARD ADJUSTMENTS

The quality of rewards found in chests and dropped from Badass enemies have been subtly buffed. Our goal is to make sure chests feel rewarding and exciting, and players feel properly rewarded for defeating difficult enemies.

Borderlands 3 Update 1.15 July 23 – DEDICATED LOOT POOL ADJUSTMENTS

The dedicated loot pools for bosses have been given a dramatic overhaul in hopes of making for a more reliable and satisfying farming experience. Most bosses have two pieces of gear assigned to them, though there are exceptions. To reach this goal, we enabled respawning on the following bosses and reshuffled gear between bosses more evenly.

  • Dumptruck
  • Undertaker
  • Mincemeat
  • Buttmunch and Trufflemunch
  • Sheega
  • Rohner
  • Rax
  • Max
  • Archer Rowe
  • Bloodshine
  • Muldock, the Anointed
  • Artemis
  • Apollo
  • King Bobo
  • King Gnasher
  • Anointed X2
  • Anointed X3
  • Anointed X4
  • Azalea
  • Preston

ANOINTMENT POOL ADJUSTMENTS

To further improve the farming experience, we examined the Anointment pool and determined some weren’t engaging the community as we hoped. Given the depth of the pool, we have removed the following 21 Anointments. Any gear that currently has these Anointments will continue to function properly, but gear dropped after this update will no longer roll with these Anointments.

  • While Airborne, Critical Damage is increased 25%
  • While Airborne, Damage is increased by 30%
  • While Airborne, Fire Rate is increased 20%
  • While Airborne, Accuracy and Handling are increased by 75%
  • While Sliding, Damage is increased by 40%
  • While Sliding, Accuracy and Handling are increased by 50%
  • While Sliding, Fire Rate is increased by 25%
  • While Sliding, building up energy that refills a portion of your shields.
  • While an Action Skill is Active, reduce all incoming damage by a small amount
  • While an Action Skill is Active, 250% of health damage taken is returned to the attacker as shock damage.
  • On Action Skill End, Critical Damage is increased by 25% for a short time
  • On Action Skill End, create a cyber spike that damages nearby enemies
  • On Action Skill End, spawn a healing pool for several seconds
  • On Action Skill End, Fire rate is increased by 11%, & reload speed by 26% for a short time
  • On Action Skill End, Weapon Accuracy & Handling are greatly increased for a short time
  • On Action Skill End, Movement speed is increased by 5% for a short time
  • On Action Skill End, 30% of damage taken is returned to the attacker for a short time.
  • After exiting Iron Bear, do not consume ammo for 5 seconds
  • After using Phaseslam, damage taken is reduced by 20% and movespeed is increased by 12%
  • After using Phasegrasp, Weapon Accuracy and Handling are greatly increased

A NOTE ON DROP RATES

A few bosses have had some minor tweaks made to improve their looting experience, but we have left most of the drop rates unchanged. With the thinning of the dedicated loot pools and the removal of 21 Anointments, we decided to observe these changes first then make changes as needed in the future.

STABILITY

  • Addressed a reported crash that could occur in splitscreen
  • Reduced the number of projectiles that spawn due to damage dealt when using multiple elements on enemies and limited the number of times projectiles bounce to 4

We have adjusted how projectiles from damage events spawn. We found spikes in stability and performance concerns when too many elemental projectiles were spawning during gameplay. This was due to some weapons spawning many more projectiles than game performance recommended. The Recursion, Carrier, Bearcat, Lead Sprinkler, and others will see the effects from this change. We will be monitoring how players will be using these weapons for any possible adjustments in the future.

MAYHEM MODE

  • Addressed a reported concern where the splat attack from the Beastmaster’s pet Scorcher was unintentionally receiving Mayhem damage scaling multiple times
  • Increased Pet Damage Scaling in Mayhem

After making changes to the Scorcher’s splat, we wanted to make sure it and other pets still felt fun and capable of competitive amounts of damage in Mayhem, so we buffed pet damage accordingly.

  • Addressed a bug where the Operative’s Digi-clone was interacting with certain weapons like the O.P.Q. in a way that received Mayhem damage scaling multiple times
  • Addressed a bug where the Gunner’s Iron Bear and certain class mods like the Mind Sweeper could interact in a way that received Mayhem damage scaling multiple times

We identified a behavior in our damage pipeline that created opportunities for certain gear and skill combinations to do excessive amounts of damage. We determined these combinations were not aligned with the rest of the game and made a solution that better fits our intended balance goals.

During Microsoft’s Xbox Games Showcase, Head of Xbox Phil Spencer took to the virtual stage to announce a new Forza game!  Check out the trailer below.

Unfotunately, no release date, or even title was revealed aside from “Forza Motorsport.” It is being developed by longtime franchise developers at Turn 10 Studios.

Here’s what Microsoft had to say about the new Forza game:

The new Forza Motorsport, currently in early development, is a reimagining of the series. We are taking what has made Forza Motorsport great over the past 15 years and pairing it with new game concepts and new technologies. With the new Forza Motorsport, ray tracing is coming to ForzaTech, you will see a dynamic world in 4K, 60fps, that is connected and dynamic – from surfaces of cars reflecting off each other, to brilliant red paint bouncing off intensely detailed track surfaces, and the interplay of light and shadow throughout the world. Developed by Turn 10 Studios, Forza Motorsport will be available on Xbox Series X, Windows 10 PC and on Xbox Game Pass.

In addition to that, Forza Horizon 4 is being optimized for Xbox Series X!

There’s never been a better time to play Playground Games’ Forza Horizon 4. Now optimized for the Xbox Series X, players will experience higher fidelity graphics and faster performance as they explore beautiful, historic Britain and drive hundreds of the world’s greatest cars in native 4K Ultra HD at 60fps.
