Report – COD 2020 to Be Called Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War

Following conflicting rumors that this year’s Call of Duty game (COD 2020) will be a reboot of sorts for Treyarch’s Black Ops series (and some saying it won’t be a reboot at all), a new rumor has surfaced that claims Call of Duty 2020 will be called “Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.”

This was revealed by leaker Okami on Twitter with a mock boxart. For those unaware, Okami also correctly leaked the release date for Modern Warfare 2 Remastered earlier this year.

https://twitter.com/Okami13_/status/1262774644903424000

Further adding validity to this rumor, Eurogamer has reported that this title is also the same thing their “sources” have told them.

Aside from that though, it’s unknown whether this will be a reboot of the Black Ops franchise. Although the title suggests that the game will be returning to its historical roots given the real-life Cold War lasted from the 1940’s up to the early ’90s.

While Activision has mentioned that this year’s COD 2020 title is on track for its usual fall release, there’s still no confirmation on who’s developing it though rumors have pointed to Treyarch taking the helm. If this Black Ops Cold War title rings true, then chances are, Treyarch is indeed developing this year’s Call of Duty game. Not to mention, the studio released a Black Ops 10-year anniversary video this week, which would conveniently tie up to any Black Ops-related announcement — one we’re expecting to happen in May if past Call of Duty reveals are anything to go by.

We’ve reached out to Activision and will update the post if we get anything back regarding this COD 2020 rumor.

Infinity Ward Aware and Comments on Modern Warfare Patch File Size Concerns

While Infinity Ward’s post-launch support of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has been commendable so far with updates bringing in new maps, weapons, modes and more, there is a concern when it comes to the Modern Warfare patch file size whenever a new title update is introduced.

Just this week, a new patch has been rolled out by Infinity Ward and it’s at a staggering 21GB on the PS4, and 30GB on the Xbox One. It’s understandable that most online-centric games get regular patches, but the Modern Warfare patch file size for each one has been a bit worrying for those with limited disk space.

In an interview, Infinity Ward Production Director Paul Haile acknowledged the Modern Warfare patch file size concerns by the community, and even gave a statement about it.

Modern Warfare and Warzone are both massive experiences with tons of ways to play and new content being added regularly, and we are cognizant of the overall download size. As a team we are committed to updating the game with new free content of course, but have also taken steps for overall footprint management, including a DLC pack management screen for console users. This allows players to pick and choose which DLC packs they want to keep, and remove the others to recover more space.

Haile’s comment about “pack management” points to the studio’s “Data Pack” downloads released a few weeks ago. While it is somewhat useful, the game is still hovering near the 180-200GB mark which possibly makes it the biggest game in terms of file size out for consoles (it’s bigger than Red Dead Redemption 2 and Grand Theft Auto V combined).

Hopefully, this year’s Call of Duty game will have smaller patch sizes given it’s taxing having to delete games and other files on your gaming console whenever a new Modern Warfare patch drops.

How much space is Modern Warfare taking up in your HDD (console or PC)? Is this just a case of games really just getting bigger or do you think Infinity Ward isn’t optimizing and compressing their data enough?

NBA 2K20 Update May 20 Fixes an Exploit, Brings It to Version 1.13

Visual Concepts has released the NBA 2K20 update May 20 patch, which brings the game to NBA 2K 1.13 on consoles. This is a small download clocking in at just 500MB, too. Given the size, we’re expecting technical fixes more than anything else.

NBA 2K20 update May 20 patch notes (NBA 2K20 1.13):

The official notes aren’t out yet, though the NBA 2K subreddit has discovered that the MyTeam Unlimited exploit has been fixed. If you’re not familiar with this exploit, it’s when an opponent stalls and just waits it out so they don’t take the L (defeat),

Also for those unaware, the tattoo bug where it was erased every time you add a new one has also been fixed it seems. Once we get the official patch notes from Visual Concepts, we’ll update the post.

If you notice any gameplay-related changes or anything that got changed, please let us know down in the comments. We’ll credit you if we update the post with it.

Aside from the fixes, there’s a bunch of new stuff added in the Fortnite update 2.71 May 20 patch, and here’s what dataminers were able to unearth. Note that not everything unearthed is guaranteed to make an appearance today or be in the game at all, though they usually are part of the game’s cadence of events.

If there’s more content datamined, we’ll update the post so keep an eye out. I believe that’s all the datamined content unearthed for this patch.

Call of Duty Warzone Bunkers Starting to Open Up, Bunker 11 Houses a Nuke

If you play Call of Duty Warzone and don’t explore the map much, you might not have noticed that there are locked bunkers in different parts of the map that have been a mystery as to what they’re for. Well, it seems that with today’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare update, the Call of Duty Warzone bunkers are starting to open up!

Players can open it by obtaining a red key card which you can get by looting the orange crates scattered around the map. Over on Reddit, user AG1gaming has captured a video of them opening one up, and inside it are a ton of loot!

First bunker accessed by red key card
by inModernWarzone

Given how Call of Duty Warzone has loadout drops, this is kind of underwhelming to be honest. That said, it seems not all the bunkers have loot. In Bunker 11, Reddit user Dougdagnabbit snapped an image of what appears to be a nuclear warhead inside!

This image was taken from YouTuber GeekGamingSquad, who posted a video of seeing through Bunker 11’s walls and whatnot. While the actual bunker still can’t be accessed, you can see what’s inside it, and in one of the rooms is a nuke warhead.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gDr8WG9ELCI&feature=youtu.be

No one knows currently what this nuke is for, but I can imagine it’s for something BIG! Perhaps Infinity Ward is planning to blow up the map and introduce a re-worked map for Warzone? Maybe players will go up against nuclear-infected enemies at some point? Your guess is as good as mine. With Season 3 coming to a close soon, chances are, these bunkers will play a larger role in Season 4.

Respawn: EA Put “No Pressure” on Apex Legends Revenue, Believes Company Not Wired Like That

With Apex Legends being a free-to-play game, and developers, servers and more costing money, one might assume that Respawn is feeling the pinch in making sure that the Apex Legends revenue from microtransactions is doing well.

Apparently, that’s not the case. In an interview where the studio was talking about the newly announced Respawn studio in Vancouver, Respawn COO Dusty Welch mentioned that the studio felt “no pressure” from EA regarding Apex Legends revenue and monetization.

I’ve never run a franchise before where there’s been so little or no pressure from the publisher or from corporate or my partner about the monetization or the revenue…That is not how Respawn has been wired or built. I don’t think that EA is wired or built that way.

That’s definitely a surprising thing to hear when it comes to EA, no? Especially those who play EA’s annual FIFA footie series.

Speaking of EA and Apex Legends, EA has commented on the game’s decline earlier this month during the publisher’s quarterly earnings call.

Do you agree with Welch’s statement or do you think this is case of Respawn just being nice to their parent company? Let us know your thoughts down in the comments below.

Overwatch Update 2.88 May 19 Patch Rolled Out

Blizzard Entertainment has released the Overwatch update 2.88 May 19 patch for all platforms. This is called the 1.48.0.0 patch per Blizzard, though console gamers will see this as Overwatch update 2.88. Check out the full patch notes below.

Per Blizzard, this patch is a “rebase” and will require a big download on all platforms.

Overwatch update 2.88 May 19 patch notes:

OVERWATCH ANNIVERSARY 2020

Overwatch turns four this year and we’re celebrating with brand new items, including new Legendary skins like Masquerade Reaper, Dragoon Mercy, Little Red Ashe, and more! Participate in the weekly anniversary Challenges for even more epic rewards, such as Carbon Fiber Sigma, Fleur de Lis Widowmaker, and Masked Man McCree. Did you miss any Overwatch festivities over the previous years? Don’t worry—you’ll be able to unlock items from past events using credits (or by opening Loot Boxes)! Relive the thrill of previous seasonal brawls in the Arcade, with a brawl of the day rotating throughout the Anniversary celebration.

Thank you so much for playing Overwatch with us over the past four years! Your continued support and enthusiasm help drive us to keep creating. We look forward to celebrating with you in-game!

GENERAL UPDATES

Feature Update: Improved Communications Wheel

Added many more communication options so you can customize your interactions in Overwatch! To help you pick your favorites, go to Options, then Controls and scroll down to the Communication Wheel section. From here, you can choose from one of 26 different options for each sector of the wheel. You can change out your choices and swap around their positions within the wheel. Now, you can still tell your team “I Need Healing,” but you can also tell them you are “On My Way” so they should “Press the Attack!”

  • New options are now available to customize the Communications Wheel
  • Shortcuts are now customizable; pick from a set of 26 different communication options
  • Additional keybindings are now available to support more voiceover lines
  • We’ve changed how communication wheel throttling works in the game. You can use up to 3 communication wheel actions in rapid succession but there is now a delay between subsequent communications (similar to how Tracer’s blink ability works in the game)

Feature Update: Patch Notes In-Client

Players are now be able to read about the latest changes to Overwatch from within the game. We wanted to players across all platforms to have convenient access to this information, and it’s now easier than ever to stay up-to-date.

  • Selecting the Patch Notes button on the main menu will display the patch notes in the client, and no longer requires a separate web browser
  • Patch Notes will show as “new” whenever a game update is available

Custom Games Updates

  • Existing Share Codes can now be re-uploaded with new Custom Game Settings (requires same original owner)
  • Skirmish can now override which Control Points are valid on Control Maps

Developer Comment: When choosing to create a share code for your Custom Game Settings, we’ve added the option to re-upload the new settings to an existing share code (assuming the owner is the same). This should make it easier for content creators to update existing modes, even if the codes have already been shared. Note: One may also re-upload settings to a code that has expired (assuming the owner is the same), and the share code will become valid again.

General

  • Players will now receive an in-game notice thanking them for their cheat report when their report has resulted in an action
  • Added buttons to Control map dropships to allow players to reset basketballs
  • Play of the Game – Retuned a number of scoring factors to emphasize more active participation in fights

Given this isn’t a full-fledged patch, Given we’ve already ran this Destiny 2 update today May 19 post, we’re keeping it up. Sorry for the confusion, everyone! Check out the weekly reset of activies here.

Battlefield 5 Currency Reward Bug Acknowledged by DICE, Here’s What’s Planned

For those annoyed at the Battlefield 5 currency reward bug that prevented players from receiving their 100 BFC for completing the latest Tides of War mission. DICE is aware of this, and has commented on what they’re planning to do about it.

This was mentioned by Battlefield Community Manager Jeff Braddock in the latest This Week in Battlefield V community post. While the fix won’t be retroactive, meaning it won’t grant players who finished the mission with 100 BFC, they are instead giving 200 BFC out to everyone who logs in during a specific time period.

    • The team is working on rolling out a fix (potentially tomorrow) to prevent this from happening in the future.
    • The fix will not be retroactive, meaning it won’t grant you the 100 BFC.
    • To make up for this issue, we’re granting EVERYONE who logs in within a certain period of time 200 BFC. Details will be posted when we confirm the mass grant date (should be this week).

This is good news, right? At least all that work didn’t go unrewarded. Then again, you could have done nothing and gained 200 BFC, but still, it’s better than nothing, right?

In other Battlefield 5 news, the latest datamined info reveals that there could be as many as 12 weapons and gadgets introduced in the June update!

Report: Gears of War 3 PS3 Build Leaked, Here’s the Full Playthrough

Here’s the most WTF-type video game news of the day: apparently, Epic Games had a working Gears of War 3 PS3 build running way back in 2011! Yes, the Xbox exclusive once was developed by Epic Games for Microsoft’s Xbox 360 rival, the PS3!

UPDATE: Epic Games has confirmed with Kotaku the legitimacy of the build, although states that it was never actually intended for any actually PS3 product.

Watch the full eight-hour playthrough of the Gears of War 3 PS3 build below — bugs and all.

According to the uploader named Proto, this is running on a PS3 devkit and is the “real deal.”

It’s the real deal. This is an Epic-made build of Gears of War 3 for PS3. This build is dated May 19 2011, and is the only build of this ever located. As far as I know I’m also the only person with a working build of this particular data as well. I don’t know why it exists, I dont know why it was made. All I can do is speculate.
This is distinctly different from the January 2011 build, as that build was rebuilt from source by an unknown party. As a result, theres 2 builds on PS3, one being unofficial (Jan 2011), the other being this one (May 19 2011). There’s a lot of differences from final, as well as a lot of changes from the January data, but I’ll skip over them for now.

Important notes
It’s currently running on a PS3 Devkit. These have additional RAM that is available and without it you cannot play this.
RPCS3 is not fully able to play this either, but small parts can be loaded under specific conditions.
Splitscreen works, as does multiplayer with the right commands.
Network play is not available as far as I know, as it cannot connect to Xbox Live, nor can it connect to PSN. If it’s able to connect with other systems, I cant test it.
Buttons still show Xbox 360 buttons, as well as tries to read storage like the Xbox 360, but if you select a profile it will softlock the system.
I’m keeping the fix for the data private.
No I wont share it.

How well does it run?
Performance wise, better than the unofficial build remade from source, but not free from flaws. Anya is the biggest performance loss during all of this due to her hair.
Control wise, it has the same issues as the unofficial build. Fully horizontal and vertical aiming movement is quite poor, so you must include slight offsets to your aiming, which in turn makes actually shooting things really difficult.
For levels playable, everything is playable outside of 2 specific cases. Convoy (Act 3 Chapter 3) is unplayable due to an unavoidable RSX exception. Normally you could skip this by loading a specific checkpoint, but the checkpoint system is broken. In turn this leaves it impossible to play the level. The other level is the finale, where the boss gets stuck on a scripting issue. It leaves the level impossible to finish, but is almost complete.

For those unaware, Epic Games sold the Gears of War license to Microsoft back in 2014 for an undisclosed sum, and the rest, as they say, is history.

We’re trying to learn more info about this Gears of War 3 PS3 build and will post more news as we come by it.

Fallout 76 Update 1.38 May 19 Patch Released

Bethesda Game Studios has released the Fallout 76 update 1.38 May 19 patch for all platforms today! This is labeled as Fallout 76 update 19 by Bethesda, though gamers will see this as Fallout 76 update 1.38.

Given we just got the big Fallout 76 Wastelanders update last month, don’t expect new content, but there are lots of fixes and new features! PS4 gamers should expect this patc to be around 8GB, Xbox One at 10GB, and PC is at 4GB (estimates).

Fallout 76 update 1.38 May 19 patch notes:

UPDATE 19 HIGHLIGHTS

  • Ally Customization: Give your Allies stylish new looks by sharing your wardrobe with them using the new option to customize their outfits.
  • Hunt for the Treasure Hunter: Mole Miners have discovered treasure in the Ash Heap! Starting May 21, hunt them down to claim their loot for yourself during a new limited-time event.
  • Fasnacht Parade: By popular demand, this Seasonal Event is returning for a full week starting May 25, and there are plenty of new Fasnacht Masks up for grabs.
  • Item Naming Updates: We’ve made improvements to the way your weapons and armors are automatically named when you apply new mods and skins.
  • Backpack Updates: Changing your Backpack’s appearance is now as simple as applying a skin, and you can now apply them to Small Backpacks, too!
  • (NW) Limited Time Challenges: Unlock new cosmetic rewards by completing limited-time Challenges in Nuclear Winter, from May 19 – June 11.

CUSTOMIZE YOUR ALLIES

Starting today, you can now share your wardrobe with your Allies and swap their outfits to your heart’s content with Ally Customization.

  • When interacting with an Ally in your C.A.M.P., a new “customize” option will now appear that you can use to change their clothing.
    • Outfits, Headwear, Costumes, Armor—If you can wear it, then so can your Ally! The only current exceptions are Power Armor and Weapons.
    • Anything you dress your Ally in is purely cosmetic. They will not receive any buffs or bonuses from the apparel they wear.
  • Additionally, when viewing another player’s Ally, its name will be adjusted to include the name of the C.A.M.P. owner, e.g.: ’s Ally.
  • Please note that scrapping an Ally Station will revert that Ally to their default outfit. Allies will also appear to be in their default outfit if they are in an instance with you.

HUNT FOR THE TREASURE HUNTER

Mole Miners are searching for riches around Appalachia, and you can hunt them down to claim their loot for yourself in a new series of limited-time “Hunt for the Treasure Hunter” events we’re introducing with Update 19.

TREASURE HUNTER MOLE MINERS
  • Use your keen tracking senses to hunt down Treasure Hunter Mole Miners to collect their Mole Miner Pails, which contain all of the loot they’ve been hoarding.
    • Treasure Hunter Mole Miners are legendary creatures, and you will hear them when they’re nearby.
  • Treasure Hunter Mole Miners can drop rewards from one of three different tiers: Dusty Mole Miner Pails (low), Mole Miner Pails (medium), and Ornate Mole Miner Pails (high).
    • The higher quality the Pail, the better chances for rare loot, including Outfits, Mounted Head Plans, a new Backpack Plan, and the Marine Armor Helmet Plan.
    • Pails can be traded and sold to other players, but cannot be sold to NPC vendors.
CRAFT YOUR OWN MOLE MINER PAILS
  • While a Treasure Hunter event is live, Vendors around Appalachia will sell Empty Mole Miner Pails in exchange for Caps.
    • Use Empty Pails, along with a few additional materials, to craft full Mole Miner Pails of low, medium, or high-quality.
    • You can give or sell crafted Pails to other players, or keep them for yourself.
HEAD TO THE ASH HEAP ON MAY 21!
  • The first Hunt for the Treasure Hunter event will take place from May 21 – 25 in the Ash Heap region of Appalachia.
  • Future Hunt for the Treasure Hunter events will each occur in a different region.

FASNACHT PARADE MARCHES BACK TO HELVETIA

Starting next week, you can travel to Helvetia to take part in the Fasnacht Seasonal Event by helping the local Protectrons prepare for the town’s annual celebration and parade.

  • Help the bots by hanging decorations, gathering ingredients for a feast, or playing musical instruments, among other activities, before the timer expires.
    • If you and your event mates complete the preparations in time, the bots will line up at the center of town to begin the parade.
  • Successfully guide the marchers to the end of their parade route, and you will be rewarded with loot!
    • The more marchers who survive, the higher your chances at rare loot, which may include Fasnacht-themed C.A.M.P. plans and a chance to earn a fancy Fasnacht mask.
    • We’ve added a number of festive new masks this year, and adjusted their drop rates following community feedback. While some are still less common than others, they should drop more often this time.
    • You can also trade your Fasnacht Masks to other players, if you wish.
  • Fasnacht Parade will begin every hour at the top of the hour starting on May 25. The event will last for a full week, so you’ll have plenty of chances join in the celebration!

DESIGN UPDATES

AUTOMATIC ITEM NAME IMPROVEMENTS

With this update, we’ve improved how the game automatically names your weapons and armors based on their mods, legendary attributes, and Atomic Shop paints.

  • Going forward, automatically generated names will appear in a much more consistent order, and they will reliably include an item’s main attributes.
    • Additionally, Atomic Shop paint and skin names no longer overwrite the item’s primary legendary effect name.
  • Items should now generally follow this naming convention: Primary Legendary Attribute Name + Atomic Shop Cosmetic Name + Mod Name + Weapon Name
    • If you have a legendary Gatling Gun with the Black Knight paint and a Prime Receiver, for example, its automatically generated name should now be: Anti-Armor Black Knight Prime Gatling Gun
  • Keep in mind that you can still give your items custom names, which will override their automatically generated names.
  • Please note: Given the many combinations that are possible through all the different mods, legendary effects, Atomic Shop paints, and item types, there may cases where new item names appear incorrect.
    • For example, certain elements may appear out of order, or might be missing from the name.
    • These are visual issues, and all your mods should still function correctly. Please let us know if you spot any naming bugs on your gear after today, and we will squash them.
BACKPACK APPEARANCE UPDATES

We’ve improved Backpack customization so that you can now apply different appearances to your Backpacks as skins—no more crafting required!

  • Head to an Armor Workbench and use the modify menu to swap the appearance of your existing Backpack with any skins you’ve unlocked through quests, events, or the Atomic Shop.
    • Skins can now be applied to Small Backpacks, as well for those who have not yet unlocked the normal Backpack Plan by completing the “Order of the Tadpole” quest.
    • You can apply skins to your existing Backpacks, as well as any new ones you craft.

ART AND ANIMATION

  • BBQ Grills: Get hungry! When using a BBQ Grill, your character will now appear to flip and grill some tasty steaks.
  • Grognak’s Throne: We’ve added a new animation that will play when sitting in Grognak’s Throne so that you can survey your land with the royal confidence.

ITEMS

  • Liberty Prime Power Armor: If you’re a strong silent type, you may be pleased to know that we’ve added an alternate version of the Liberty Prime Power Armor helmet that will not play voice lines while you’re wearing it.
    • Players who own the Liberty Prime Power Armor can now craft the silent version of the helmet at a Power Armor Station.

NUCLEAR WINTER

LIMITED TIME “SURVIVORS” CHALLENGES – UNLOCK THEMED COSMETICS!
  • We’ve added 8 Nuclear Winter Challenges that you can complete to earn new “Survivors” themed cosmetic rewards starting today, and lasting until 7:00 p.m. ET on June 11.
    • One new challenge will appear in the Character Challenge menu each day until all 8 are available, and they will remain available until the end of the event.
  • You can earn the first reward with 150 Overseer XP, and the last with 2,500 Overseer XP. All others will each require 2,000 Overseer XP.
    • Overseer XP you earn will roll over from one Challenge to the next, but they must be completed one at a time and in order.
  • As you complete each Challenge, you’ll be able to claim new themed rewards, like new furniture for your C.A.M.P., “Survivor’s Denim” and Ghillie Suit outfits, as well as skins for Nuclear Winter’s newest weapons: The Bow, Cattle Prod, and Gauss Shotgun.
  • You can learn more about this event directly from ZAX and preview the rewards by reading our latest ZAX Transmission article on Fallout.com.

  • New Weapons: The Bow, Cattle Prod, and Gauss Shotgun have been added and tuned for combat in Nuclear Winter matches. Find them in Supply Crates as you scavenge for gear.

Battlefield 5 June Update Could Introduce 12 Weapons & Gadgets Based on Datamined Info

As is with every big Battlefield 5 patch, a load of stuff gets datamined that points to future content for the game. With the Battlefield 5 June update being its last content drop, fans are expecting this to include more than just a new map, but also new weapons as well.

Reliable dataminer temporyal has uneartehd 12 weapons and gadgets from the latest 6.6 patch, and these weapons could potentially be included in the Battlefield 5 June update since these are already completed.

Potential content for June in #BattlefieldV:

12 weapons & gadgets arrived “complete” or received new assignment and dog tag data with Patch 6.6. DICE didn’t forget “Oldies” like the Welgun, Sjögren or the Shaped Charge.

Candidates like the M1917 already got this data in place.

Of course, same as with any datamined info, none of the stuff mentioned above is in any way guaranteed to be in the game. That said, we are expecting at least some of these weapons to be obtainable via weekly Assignments though most likely not that many.

Are you expecting new weapons and gadgets in Battlefield 5’s last content drop? What are you expecting from it? Let us know down in the comments  below.

RANKED
A new split of Ranked has arrived! The philosophy behind Ranked for Season 7 has been working well. Ranked is more popular than ever and has shown some of our strongest Matchmaking metrics as well. Preserving Matchmaking Rating has gone a long way in giving players long term goals to work towards and allowing our Matchmaker to use much stronger data in matching. We have seen a large amount of players returning to Ranked which has created variance around gold, but we expect that to level out over time. We are keeping a close eye on this to ensure that is the case.
At the top end of players we have seen some areas where this system has broken down. Without consistent MMR resets players can stagnate at the top while others have a longer period of time to work towards the highest accomplishments (thus making them less prestigious as more have had the time to obtain them).
We had previously tuned how difficult it was to reach Masters based on shorter splits. While previously about 2% of players obtained Masters, this favored players who could play enough games in this short window AND were good enough. Less resets means more of the players who were good enough have also had the time to get there. We are updating the MMR required for Masters to better reflect this change, ensuring only 2% of players can obtain this rank. Masters MMR players will also be softly reset with this update. Players above 2525 MMR will see their MMR pulled towards that 2525. Higher MMR players will still be higher after the soft reset, but they will be somewhere between 2525 and their current MMR.
The amount of soft reset is much lighter than it has been in previous splits and only affects the top 2% of players which should preserve matchmaking quality for nearly all other Ranked players. It will also preserve the order of the top players which will keep it stable.
To further help ensure the top end of players have room to compete we are increasing the MMR cap. The amount of players currently hitting the ‘cap’ is what we would expect, but we want to ensure there is room for players at the absolute top end to distinguish themselves. The new cap of 3500 should be exceedingly difficult for even a single player to obtain.
Finally, our stronger matchmaking metrics make us feel comfortable moving up the duo queue MMR ranges, as the Matchmaker should have more flexibility around parties. This allows more friends to play together without a noticeable drop in match quality.
  • Increased the MMR cap from 3250 to 3500.
  • Updated the MMR values associated with each tier and division to better represent the distribution of players.
    • Gold I – V is now better centered around the average MMR value at 1500 MMR
      • We previously placed top heavy, placing more players in Gold 2 and 1 than in Gold 4 and 5.
    • Masters better lines up with having only 2% of players above it at 2525 MMR
      • Was previously allowing 4-5% of players.
  • Players above 2525 MMR will undergo a soft reset of their MMR to ensure the competition for Grandmasters and Rank 1 are competitive each split.
    • Players below 2525 MMR will not undergo any MMR reset.
  • Players below 37% Variance will be reset to 37% Variance.
  • God Leaderboards will not be reset this split, but will be reset next split for Mid Season.
  • Increased the Duo Queue MMR range for players below Diamond from 300 to 500.
  • Increased the Duo Queue MMR range for players Diamond and above from 100 to 250.
BALANCE LIVE WITH THE FINAL BOSS UPDATE MAY 19
Items
Two hybrid items are being nerfed this update, and ones that are often used against each other. These items tend to slow the game down by reducing lethality on both sides, and heavily punishing the player that skips over buying these items. These changes should facilitate more diverse item builds in solo lane in magical vs physical matchups, as well as increase some chances for solo kills.

JADE EMPEROR’S CROWN
  • Increased cost from 2100 to 2150
  • Decreased Physical Protection from 60 to 50

RUNIC SHIELD
  • Decreased Magical Power reduction from 50 to 40
  • Decreased HP from 200 to 150
Gods
ARTEMIS
A common frustration from Artemis players is the responsiveness of her Ultimate pet: Tusky. This boar can feel clunky and often fails to hit in situations where players would expect him to. To fix this we are tightening up his AI to make sure he finds targets more quickly and charges at them more quickly after firing. We are also planning some additional visual FX adjustments to make sure his functionality is more clearly understood on the battleground.

CALYDONIAN BOAR
  • Decreased warmup time from 1s to 0.7s.
  • Increased delay between charges from 0.5s to 0.6s.
  • The additional responsiveness from the changes below make this feel similar to its current timing.
  • Added additional effects when spawning to see where Tusky is.
  • Added a warmup targeter for the initial charge so allies and enemies can see its range and timing.
  • Tusky has undergone AI improvements.
    • Fixed an issue where Tusky would not charge targets at max range.
    • Fixed an issue where Tusky would ignore targets who were selected in the frontal cone.
    • Fixed an issue where Tusky would freeze between charges for a significant amount of time.
    • Tusky now better understands when people enter and leave line of sight.
CERNUNNOS
The seasons have changed quite a few times since Cernunnos has been buffed. This god has maintained strong player perception while his win rate has fallen over the years. We are adding an interesting new feature to his Shifter of Seasons ability, where now Autumn stance will be able to debuff enemies magical protections as well as physical. This lets Cernunnos be even more of a team player without directly buffing his damage, and makes this stance more attractive to use.

SHIFTER OF SEASONS
  • Autumn now reduces Magical Protections in Additional to Physical
CHANG’E
This elegant goddess brings a unique play style to SMITE, and a unique role flexibility. Chang’e has alternated back and forth over the years between damage and frontline builds. As her stats have dropped a bit, we are looking to bring her back with a damage buff through power scaling, to make sure those aggressive Chang’e players out there can impact a fight.

MOONFLOWER DANCE
  • Increased Magical Power Scaling from 50% to 60%
MULAN
Mulan’s performance has evened out quite nicely for a new god. Players do not seem to think she’s overpowered, and her stats are on the low end but not alarmingly low. We are looking to specifically address player feedback on parts of her kit that feel underwhelming. Previously this was her Ultimate, and now it’s the reward for skilling up her Ability 1. The attack speed boost was hardly noticeable so it’s being increased.

CROSS STRIKE
  • Mastery Bonus Increased from 5% to 10% Attack Speed
NIKE
The Goddess of victory is staying true to her name, and doing quite well in the metrics since her rework. However, many players have stated that her vulnerability to knockups feels inconsistent and frustrating in certain matchups. Nike seems to be continuing her niche as “low popularity but high win rate” and we hope this change makes her a more attractive pick in some matchups.

BARRIER FORMATION
  • Nike is now is knockback immune while channeling
RAMA
Rama doesn’t have a passive. This is what the SMITE team has been told for years. Instead of reworking his current passive entirely, we looked at Rama’s kit as a whole and found a few problems to solve. First we decided to double down on the current passive, and make it more impactful and more closely related to the rest of his kit. This design direction allowed for the most improvements without changing the core flow of his kit. We applied some balance adjustments and quality of life adjustments after that to make Rama really feel smooth.

ASTRAL QUIVER
  • This ability now includes
    • Every Astral Strike Arrow Rama lands has a percent chance that an Astral Arrow pickup will appear on the ground. Drop chance = 30% + (1*level)
  • Additionally, picking up an arrow heals 10 mana

PICK ME UP RENAMED TO INFINITE ARROWS
  • Removed Drop chance for Arrow Pickup from this ability
  • Added
    • While this buff is active, every 3rd successful hit on an enemy god will immediately generate an Astral Arrow

ROLLING ASSAULT
  • You can cancel this ability after rolling
  • Increased Physical Power Scaling of 25% to the arrow shot bonus damage

ASTRAL BARRAGE
  • Every time Rama generates or picks up an Astral Arrow, the cooldown of this ability is reduced by 0.2s (includes passive regen + picked up deployables + generated arrows during stim)
RAVANA
The Demon King has fallen out of favor a while but he is ready to pack a punch. We feel that Ravana is right on the border of a breakthrough, so he is getting a small increase to his primary jungle clear to ensure he can keep up with the meta.

PRANA ONSLAUGHT
  • Increased Base Damage from 80/135/190/245/300 to 90/145/200/255/310
YMIR

Hunt Showdown Update 1.06 May 19 Released, Adds Crossplay and More

Console gamers, rejoice! Crytek has released the Hunt Showdown update 1.06 May 19 patch that adds crossplay between PS4 and Xbox One, gameplay fixes and more! Crytek calls this the 1.3 patch that dropped earlier for PC. Check out the full Hunt Showdown update 1.06 patch notes below.

Hunt Showdown update 1.06 May 19 patch notes:

HIGHLIGHTS

Crossplay

The long-awaited Crossplay function between Xbox One and PlayStation 4 is here! You can now find partners using both consoles when looking for Random partner(s). Currently invites only work for players using their own platforms.

(Teaming up with a player using the same console shows the corresponding platform’s icon, while grouping with a player using the other platform shows a controller icon.)

New AI Variations

We have added two new AI variations to the game. You will now find the Grunt Doctor, who deals poison damage and drops a medical kit after being killed, and the Concertina Armored, covered in concertina wires causing bleeding damage, wandering in the swamps.

New Time of Day: Sunset

The Sun has set in the Bayou, a new time of day is here! You can now explore the swamps in brand new lighting. Depending on how you move through the Bayou, you can use the sun to gain an advantage over your enemies in a fight.

New Equipment

This update features two new weapon variants, the “Martini-Henry IC1 Marksman” and the “Mosin-Nagant M1891 Obrez Drum”, a new tool, the “Decoy Fuses”, as well as a new trait, ’’Levering”, allowing lever-action rifles to rapid-fire from the shoulder, giving the Winfield rifles a previously unseen new layer of tactical flexibility at close quarters.

Weapon Changes

The powerful Avtomat rocks a new look and gameplay rework this update, making it harder to control at range with a slightly increased rate of fire and more ammo drain. The update also adds a slight ear ringing effect when you unload your weapons too fast. Additionally, our current damage and projectile system sees a major balancing pass in 1.3 that helps some of the weaker ammo types to keep their damage better up to medium distance. More details can be found further below!

Improved Death Screen and Lobby

Update 1.3 brings a reworked partner inspection screen to the lobby where you are able to look at your fellow Hunters in more detail, as well as a new Death Screen, that additionally displays the enemy player’s hunter and their gear.

New Legendary Content

The Anniversary skin contest winner skin is finally here. We have also added a new Legendary Hunter as well as several additional Legendary Weapons. You can unlock those with Blood Bonds from the in-game menu. In addition, you can find brand new DLC packs in the store – Zhong Kui, Fire Fight, The Arcane Archaeologist, The Seeker Bundle, The Uncanny Bundle and The Gunslinger Bundle. Make sure to check them out!

GENERAL UPDATES

Update on previously reported issues

  • We are aware that crashes have affected many player’s overall experience, and we are looking into these with the highest priority. Until now, we were not able to track the errors properly, but included with this update, we have added markers to help us identify the cause of the reported crashes mainly on PlayStation. Unfortunately, this update does not include fixes for these issues yet, but will help us tackle them much quicker and fix them as soon as possible with a Hotfix.

  • Implemented various Bug fixes to reported problems.

1.3 Issues

  • The DLC Bundle images appear incorrectly in the store, make sure to read the description before buying them.

  • We have noticed some rendering issues on the PS4, we will keep you updated regarding this.

AI

Doctor Grunt

  • New Grunt AI variation

  • Carries a medical kit (similar to the ones players can find at resupply stations or randomly in the world) on his back that he drops when killed.

  • Wields a rusty bone saw that causes poison damage.

Concertina Armored

  • New Armored AI variation.

  • Fully entangled in concertina wire, this Armored causes bleeding damage when a Hunter gets too close.

  • More resistant to melee attacks in general.

  • Less resistant to all types of bullets.

Audio

  • Hunter Footsteps

  • Adjusted the pitch of footsteps to sound slightly higher for teammates and slightly lower for enemies compared to Player footsteps.

  • Slightly increased the audible distance of breaking branches that can be found in forest areas.

Arsenal

Mosin-Nagant M1891 Obrez Drum

  • An Obrez variant that features the 15 round drum magazine known from the Avtomat variant on this classic bolt-action.

  • With a 15/0 ammo pool, total ammunition remains the same however, the Obrez Drum does not need to be reloaded during a fight.

  • Available in the Mosin-Nagant M1891 unlock tree within the Book of Weapons, found between the Mosin-Nagant Sniper and Mosin-Nagant Avtomat variants.

Henry-Martini IC1 Marksman

  • A Martini-Henry variant with an attached medium-sized marksman scope for increased ranged capabilities.

  • Available at the end of the Martini-Henry unlock tree in the Book of Weapons.

Decoy Fuses

  • New tool with three charges.

  • Mimics a lit explosive when thrown, but does not explode or deal damage after its fuse time.

  • Can be used to deceive opponents and flush them out of cover.

  • Can be used to break stalemates by pushing into seemingly hazardous positions.

  • New unlock option for the Deception tree in the Book of Weapons.

  • Decoy Fuses play a tiny explosion sound when they explode.

Levering Trait

  • A new trait that allows lever-action rifles like the Winfield series to rapid-fire when aiming from the shoulder.

  • Hard to control, but allows shots to be fired at a staggering rate of fire. Levering gives additional flexibility in close range to stand your ground against Shotguns and other rapid-fire weapons.

  • Like “Fanning” for single-action revolvers, Levering does not work when aiming down sights (ADS).

Gunplay

  • Reworked Chaos Bomb patterns and added more weapon sounds for it to be more likely interpreted as real gunfights.

  • Improved handling of successive heavy melee attacks for some bayonet and talon variants.

  • Improved handling of successive heavy melee attacks for the crossbow.

  • Systemically – just like with Levering – Fanning now also causes slightly increased crosshair spread bloom compared to when firing it normally.

  • Consistency pass made on the time it takes to get 100% accuracy when entering scope view across all aperture, deadeye, marksman and sniper weapon variants.

  • Derringer, Throwing Knives, Decoys and Blankfire Decoys are now 100% refilled when their tool slot is randomly chosen for resupply upon looting a dead Hunter or using an Item Box. All other items still only receive one extra use per interaction.

  • Reduced the stamina cost for Heavy Attacks with the Knuckle Knife to allow 6 instead of 4 heavy attacks

Damage-Drop Rework

  • Balancing pass for weapon projectiles that increases damage-retention over distance based on bullet type:

  • In general damage drop curves have been smoothened out, resulting in most projectiles losing less damage as they travel.

  • Compact Bullets have seen the biggest boost, most notably the Winfield rifles, retaining their damage much better at medium to long-distance also resulting in overall increased effective range for headshot kills.

  • New Compact Pistol Bullet and Medium Pistol Bullet sub-classes have been introduced to better help balance rifles vs. handguns using the same Compact or Medium ammo class.

  1. So far this was only the case for Long ammo with the Uppercut, which has a stronger damage drop over distance than Long ammo rifles in comparison.

  2. The new pistol variants help ensure that the headshot range boost does not go through the roof for handguns for those cases where we want to boost rifles.

  3. Powerful handguns like the Uppercut and Dolch now receive a stronger competition at short to medium distances as they remain largely unchanged when it comes to damage per shot or headshot range compared to their smaller cousins.

Developer Note:

The rework of how projectiles lose damage over distance is a pretty big change, touching most of the weapons in the arsenal in one way or another. However, the actual gameplay changes should be pretty minimal for the majority of these weapons, and only affect those we actually want to boost. The weapons we wanted to benefit the most from this balancing pass are the Winfield rifles and the Nagant M1895 Officer Carbine to boost Compact bullets, as well as the Vetterli Karabiner 71 and Springfield 1866 rifles for Medium bullets. All of these weapons will most noticeably have an increase in their two-tap chest shot capability, which in the case of the Winfield goes from around 25m up to 40m+ meters, making that weapon overall a lot stronger short to mid-range. Headshot range is also buffed quite a bit, placing the Winfield where the Vetterli was before, and the Vetterli going up to long distances of 150m+.

As a secondary goal, most Compact ammo handguns see a slight boost, but that is most noticeable with increased chest shot damage and extra headshot range as well, moving them to where the Winfield was positioned prior. Due to the systemic nature of these balancing changes, most Compact, Medium and Long bullet weapons see a change in some way, except for shotguns, which remain untouched! The detailed list of headshot range changes can be found below.

The Winfield has been struggling to find its place in the meta, being at an awkward spot and getting a lot of pressure from shotguns, semi-automatics, and fanning pistols at short-range as well as being outclassed – damage-wise – by long rifles at longer distances. It was very easy to either push away from a Winfield and fight at range or to close the gap and push in with rapid-fire weapons or shotguns at short-range. By combining the projectile changes with the new Levering trait, we hope that Winfield rifles start living up to their reputation as flexible weapons again. The Winfield rifles can arguably be considered as the first “assault rifles” in history, excelling in a number of different combat scenarios and being a true jack of all trades that complements the other more specialized weapons of the era in the Hunters’ arsenal nicely.

Weapon Ear-Ringing

  • Firing your weapons excessively can cause temporary hearing impairment. The loud gunfire stresses your ears and thus produces a ringing effect that will last for a few seconds.

  • This is intended as a soft-counter mechanic to spamming Avtomat, Dolch, fanning pistols, levering repeaters, or using other rapid-fire weapons, making you possibly miss some sounds around you or making it harder to keep track of enemy movements while suffering from ear-ringing.

  • The intention is to encourage players to fire their weapons with careful aim and consider their shots instead of spamming.

Avtomat Rework

  • The Mosin-Nagant M1891 Avtomat has been re-imagined with an updated look and has also been rebooted gameplay-wise.

  • Increased rate of fire from 400rpm to 545rpm.

  • Increased the minimum amount of bullets fired per burst from 2 to 3.

  • Reduced weapon handling by making recoil harder to control during rapid fire.

  • Reduced initial accuracy when fired from the shoulder.

  • When firing a 3-shot burst and force-swapping weapons to cancel firing, the remaining bullets from that burst are lost to avoid players trying to snipe with the weapon.

  • Reduced the cost slightly (see further below in the Store section).

Developer Note:

The Avtomat has always been a controversial weapon. Some love it, some hate it, or feel it has no place in the game. For us, it is an interesting weapon nonetheless, because it brings something to the table that no other weapons in Hunt’s 1895 arsenal provide: Automatic fire. In reality, machineguns were not uncommon at that time, but in the context of Hunt’s gameplay, it is quite challenging to balance as it is the only weapon of its kind and usually goes up against much slower firing designs.

With this update, we made a couple of changes to how the gameplay works using the rifle. We want to make the weapon harder to operate with a stronger ammunition drain and increased recoil, while still keeping it devastating in the right hands. The new Avtomat works best up to medium distances of 50 meters, where you have a good chance to place 2 hits on an enemy in a short tap burst. Firing over longer distances is possible of course, but players will have to fight the recoil much more aggressively and most of the time can be lucky to score a single hit per burst. Here is where the ammo drain will become noticeable the most, as the new three-round burst pattern will mean you can do that a meager five times before you run dry. At close range, the changes to the weapon are a bit more mixed: On one hand, the weapon shoots faster allowing you to pour rounds downrange at a faster speed, but on the other hand, it is less controllable overall as that recoil now hits you at a faster interval as well.

We hope that the Avtomat will be seen more as just another powerful choice in the end-game arsenal, just like the Auto-5, Dolch 96 and Nitro Express Rifle, they each come with some balancing drawbacks that allow other weapons to challenge them when exploiting their respective weaknesses. Where the Nitro’s weakness is mostly its limited ammo, and the Auto-5’s weakness is its limited range, the Avtomat has both of these weaknesses to a certain extent, but still allows for a more tactical deployment in the field overall.
