SMITE Update 11.42 May 22 Released and Here’s What It Does

While Hi-Rez Studios released the big Final Boss update to SMITE just a few days ago, the SMITE update 11.42 May 22 patch has been deployed just now. Given we’re not getting the bonus update until next month, this one is purely for fixes — though one that’s much needed.

SMITE update 11.42 May 22 patch notes:

According to the SMITE Twitter account, this hotfix is to address the Friends List issue.

Checking the official SMITE Trello board, here’s what it says regarding that bug (which i states is now fixed):

Description

Fix for friends list not showing until interacting with search.

Note that the PC version got this hotfix as well. It seems this is the only thing included in this SMITE update 11.42 May 22 patch, which is to be expected given the big update we got earlier this week that added new content, gameplay-related changes and more.

If you spot any changes that affect gameplay or squashes bugs not mentioned above, leave a comment below to let the other SMITE players know.

Marvel’s Avengers Captain America Will Be Able to Wall Run, Here’s How It Works

If you thought wallrunning is just a skill reserved for the likes of Nathan Drake, the Prince of Persia and the like, well, it seems the Avengers’ leader, Captain America will be able to do it too in Marvel’s Avengers.

Over on a Reddit thread about the game, Lead Combat Designer Vince Napoli confirmed that Captain America will be able to wall run! What’s more, he even explained how it works when a fan asked whether it’s more Prince of Persoa or Titanfall.

Captain’s wall run is a set distance, but being able to chain them together by jumping back and forth, double jumping, pole swinging, etc. makes it really friendly. A well timed double jump off a wall run can also be used to re-trigger the wall run.. his navigation is really flexible and active. He basically has lots of little maneuvers that let him hop around the environment and manipulate the space more than any other character.

And yeah his combat/ability style is very acrobatic. When he’s dodging/evading, the movements are very concise, quick and economical, but his combat abilities are very different . We wanted to make it feel like his acrobatic prowess is where he derives a lot of his strength and power from in combat. For example, him being able to do a running b-twist jump and shield toss is what helps make that throw so powerful, or being able to throw his entire body, literally, into a kick, but then catch himself and follow up with leg sweeps.. etc. Honestly, i think it really is his combination of equal parts agility + strength that give his combat style a unique feel.

I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised!

You can check out the latest trailer for the game where it gives us a game overview, right here.

GT Sport Update 1.59 May 22 Adds a New Car and More

Polyphony Digital has continued with their amazing post-launch support of Gran Turismo Sport, as the GT Sport update 1.59 May 22 patch is now available for download! This brings in a new car in the Mazda RX-Vision, and more!

Aside from teh patch notes, we also have a trailer for the Mazda RX-Vision GT3 concept as well as an overview of the car.

GT Sport update 1.59 May 22 patch notes:

Main Features Implemented

1. Cars
– The following new car has been added:
・MAZDA RX-VISION GT3 CONCEPT

2. Campaign Mode
– The following events have been added to the GT League:
・Sunday Cup, Rounds 8 and 9
・Clubman Cup, Rounds 8 and 9
・Nostalgic 1979, Rounds 8 and 9
・Gr.3 Endurance Series, Rounds 7

3. Decals
– New to Decals in My Library are Mazda and Mitsubishi logos, as well as the 100th anniversary Mazda logo, which can be acquired when selecting a car from Mazda or Mitsubishi in the Livery Editor.

Other Improvements and Adjustments

– We fixed an issue where a penalty was wrongly assessed occasionally when exiting out of the pits during online races.
– Various other issues have been addressed.

The MAZDA RX-VISION is a concept car announced at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show. Based on Mazda’s “Kodo – Soul of Motion” design theme, this was a challenge to create the most beautiful FR sportscar that Mazda could come up with. This car is also powered by the next generation rotary engine “SKYACTIV-R”, a dream that Mazda wants to bring to life in the future.

The MAZDA RX-VISION GT3 CONCEPT expresses the design beauty of the base car in the form of a more aggressive race car. To meet the performance requirements of the Gr. 3 class, the design draws from the 787B engine concept, with a 4 rotor engine brought back to life using SKYACTIV technology. This new rotary engine is mounted in a lightweight body to achieve unprecedented performance.

While this GT Sport update 1.59 May 22 patch doesn’t have a lot of gameplay fixes. the fact that there’s a new car more than makes up for it, no?

Once we get more news about the new cars or tracks hitting the game, we’ll let our readers know.

The Division 2 TU10 Focus Detailed by Devs, Entering PTS Tomorrow

Agents looking for the next big patch for The Division 2, Ubisoft Massive has talked about The Division 2 TU10 (Title Update 10) in the latest State of the Game devstream. While no patch notes are available yet, the studio did talk about the direction they’re going in.

The Division 2 TU10 focus:

General TU10 Focus

Title Update 8 and Warlords of New York established a completely new endgame, new gear, new progression, and Title Update 10 basically continues that path.

Since Warlords of New York was released, they got a lot of feedback – what worked, what was fun, what was not, and that lead to TU9 and TU9.1, where they tried to address these issues.

Title Update 10 has the same goal, but in comparison, it is a larger pass which is basically focused on two main things:

  • Quality and Bug fixes to address as many issues as they can.
  • Balancing and bring back the generosity and fun in the game. (Player Power / Rewards)

These two topics basically impact everything: Balancing, gear, weapons, gear sets, rewards, difficulty, and changes to address the main pain points in PVP. So it is a general “fun” pass for everything in the game with the goal is to bring all the changes from Warlords of New York together in an experience that they intended from the get-go.

Also to be clear, “making it fun” does not equal “making it easy”. It is not their intention to make everything easier and remove the difficulty. They are pretty happy with the fact that there is difficulty in the game but they want to remove the aspects that are frustrating and feel unfair.

Other Changes

The Detailed Patch Notes for the PTS will be posted in the forums. (probably Friday)

  • Weapons, weapon damage, and weapon handling got a general balancing pass
  • General increase of player power (all Assault Rifles and SMGs got a buff for example)
  • There were some nerfs to outliers but the idea was to bring all the weapons up a bit.
  • That also applies to Gear Sets to make the mechanics more powerful.
  • M1A will get a slight nerf but the rest have also been brought up.
  • Exotics will also be reworked to be more desirable

  • Legendary difficulty will be more rewarding. In the first PTS phase, this will include an increased chance of loot drops from Veterans and Elites.
  • General loot rolls will be looked at for all difficulties.
  • With TU10 Control Points will have just one loot crate (big box). That box gives more loot and it also scales with difficulty.
  • The mission crates are still being worked on (PTS Phase 2)
  • Changes to PVP weapon damage and time to kill (longer time to kill)

  • Big vendor pass:
    • No more purple items after you hit level 40.
    • Higher item power
    • Named Items will be sold from all vendors (Named items are more expensive)
    • Dark Zone Vendors also have Named items and also DZ Exclusive Named items
  • Projects
    • SHD Requisition Projects are available on level 40 and they are now weekly projects (Exotic Cache Reward)
    • There is also a weekly Project to complete a Legendary Mission and that also rewards an Exotic Cache. (you need to complete a Legendary mission first, after that, it becomes available)
  • Field Proficiency Caches will be awarded again after a level-up once you have completed the season.

  • Crafting is also being looked at to have better min / max rolls but that is for PTS Phase 2.
    • It should be more generous but it should not negate all the other content.

Additionally, those on PC, The Division 2 TU10 is entering the PTS (Private Test Server) starting tomorrow!

PTS

  • The PTS will be on Uplay, and every player who owns The Division 2 on PC can join the test.
  • Pre-load is available starting May 21 at 9:00 AM PT / 12:00 PM ET / 6:00 PM CEST
  • PTS begins May 22 at 5:00 AM PT / 8:00 AM ET / 2:00 PM CEST

The devs bring back the PTS process because they believe in the process and they also know that they have not done PTS rounds for the latest updates. They want to ensure that additional testing goes into the update, ensuring it will be a great experience for players. The devs also want to involve players more in the development phase by encouraging them to provide feedback and bug reports before the update goes live.

The team counts on players to provide feedback and bug reports during the PTS in order to make the update the best it can be.

Once we know more details regarding The Division 2 TU10 such as its release date/window, official notes, we’ll let our readers know.

Ubisoft has announced that they are investigating a Rainbow Six Siege kick cheat, and that a hotfix for this has been released.

We are currently investigating a cheat where players are being kicked out of games. We have released a hotfix to reduce some of the impact of the cheat for certain cases while we look into it further.

In addition to that, Ubisoft has also announced that they are compiling a status report focusing on the most important issues brought up by the community.

We are preparing to release a Status Report to give some insight into a large number of priority topics that are important to the community.

We hear you, and see your passion and love for Siege. Your feedback is and always has been critical to us — we all want Siege to be the best it can be.

We do not have inmmediate answers for some of these issues, but we want you to be aware that the team continues to keep them at the forefront.

Stay tuned.

Have you encountered this Rainbow Six Siege kick cheat? Hopefully, there’s a fix for it out soon.

In other Rainbow Six Siege news, the new Operators for the Steel Wave expansion has been revealed, along with gameplay and their abilities.

Announced during The Borderlands Show, there are two major content updates hitting the game soon. There’s “Takedown at the Guardian Breach.” which is a new endgame gauntlet and will be free to all base game owners once it’s out on June 4, and then there’s aformentioned Boutny of Blood premium DLC.

Borderlands 3 new Takedown – Takedown at teh Guardian Breac details:

Like Takedown at the Maliwan Blacksite, this new Takedown will be an extreme challenge that scales to the number of players in your party but is meant to push a full party of four leveled-up Vault Hunters to the limit. Together you’ll undertake a reconnaissance mission to the planet of Minos Prime to locate the source of a mysterious Guardian signal. Upon arrival, you’ll be besieged by a sect of rogue Guardians who have irrevocably transformed Minos Prime.

Bounty of Blood features an all-new setting, only here your Vault Hunter will interact with an entirely new cast of characters as an unseen narrator commentates your adventure.

You’ll travel to the harsh desert planet of Gehenna to claim a bounty on The Devil Riders, a vicious gang of bandits that’s been terrorizing the small town of Vestige. Along the way, you’ll run into fresh faces like Rose, a warrior who’s adept with pistol and katana alike, and Juno, a rough-and-tumble brawler with a checkered past. Your actions will have a direct impact on Vestige and its denizens, as you help build the town back up through story missions and Crew Challenges alike.

Terraria Update 1.20 May 21 Patch Brings Version 1.4.0.3 Changes

Those playing Re-Logic’s action-adventure sandbox game Terraria, the studio has released the Terraria update 1.20 May 21 patch, or what the studio calls a hotfix, though players will still need to download an actual patch.

While the studio calls this Terraria hotfix 1.4.0.3, console gamers will see this as the Terraria update 1.20 patch.

Terraria update 1.20 May 21 patch notes:

TERRARIA: JOURNEY’S END HOTFIX CHANGELOGS

CURRENT: Version 1.4.0.3

I. Changes/Additions

  • Removed Bad torch luck
  • Increased Prismatic Lacewing spawn rate significantly
  • Angry Dandelions now have a chance to drop Daybloom
  • Betsy now only takes one kill to “max” Bestiary progress like other main bosses
  • Zenith now requires Bee Keeper in its recipe
  • Shiverthorn is now somewhat slower to grow, but twice as fast to bloom
  • Waterlily grows faster in the rain, Blinkroot grows faster underground, Fireblossom in the Underworld
  • More Blinkroots appear during worldgen, and all herbs can potentially “grow” during worldgen as well
  • Owls now hoot less
  • Added a large quantity of art asset revisions, mostly minor touch ups, but several with substantial changes, most notably, the Molten weapons and tools, Clentaminator, and S.D.M.G.
  • Tombstones now display with Dangersense Potion
  • Dungeon Guardian and Old Man will also be unlocked if you have Skeletron unlocked now, in addition to the previously existing methods to ensure you could unlock them
  • Added a config.json setting called “DisableIntenseVisualEffects” that you can use to disable flashing during thunderstorms. Can be expanded to include other mechanics upon feedback.

II. Crash Fixes and Performance Improvements:

  • Fixed an issue that caused serious worldgen problems and some crashes for users with Turkish-language PCs (and possibly some other languages as well)
  • Users with file permissions crashes should now get an updated error message giving more instructions on the matter (File permissions issues stem from Terraria not being allowed by the PC to make and modify save files, usually causing crashes when saving or making characters/worlds)
  • Fixed not getting a proper sound initialization not actually disabling sound, this should fix some sound initialization crashes
  • Added some optimization to mannequins and hat racks to decrease their performance toll
  • Added some protection against crashing while taking very large Camera mode snapshots
  • Reduced liquid movement restrictions in multiplayer, which should translate to more liquid being allowed to move in servers at once
  • Improved how multiplayer servers handle liquid syncing
  • Added new multiplayer npc smoothing code, adjustable by a config.json setting called “MultiplayerNPCSmoothingRange” , npcs who move less than this range (default 1000 pixels) would be smoothed into their next position (can be disabled by setting it to 0)
  • Team name plates no longer show health when at full health to improve MP performance
  • Added a config.json setting called “TeamNameplateDistance” that lets you reduce the distance at which team names are drawn, with the default being 2000. Reducing the number of Team Nameplates on screen in MP can improve performance, so this can be used as needed.

III. Bug Fixes:

  • Fixed an issue where the World Menu seed button was still hidden
  • Fixed an issue where sometimes players would get an extremely long death timer. The maximum should now be limited to 30 seconds. This should retroactively fix characters with an extremely high death timer.
  • Fixed certain users not having left-click assigned to their mouse in the main menu when loading 1.4
  • Fixed an issue where Minions would be summoned at an inverted position when in reverse gravity
  • Fixed an issue where the summon lock-on icon would at an inverted position in reverse gravity
  • Fixed an issue where Hallowed Trees on mowed Hallow grass would drop normal wood
  • Fixed an issue where coin sparkles weren’t appearing
  • Fixed an issue where Gold Seahorses were caught as “Seahorse Cages”
  • Fixed an issue where some Goblins would get stuck in doors and sink into the floor
  • Fixed an outline issue on Jungle Pants
  • Fixed flail chains drawing incorrectly while on some mounts
  • Fixed an issue where wearing Moon Lord Legs and Frog Legs at the same time would give you no legs at all
  • Fixed an issue where you could use the Step Stool while grappled
  • Fixed an issue where Stylist-only hairs were inadvertently available by randomizing your character
  • Fixed an issue where NPCs were affected by disliking their neighbors more than hating their neighbors
  • Fixed an issue where you could summon multiple Queen Slimes
  • Fixed an issue where texture packs would not work for tiles without a game restart
  • Fixed some visual effects acting unusually when time is sped up with Journey mode/sleeping/Sundials
  • Titanium’s Set bonus no longer triggers off of Target Dummies
  • Fixed a crash when a server tries to generate certain seeds via serverconfig.txt
  • Fixed an issue where having pickup text off and using a Sonar Potion would delete the item you get
  • Fixed Obsidian Sinks using only Obsidian instead of Hellstone
  • Fixed server config.txt world path option being ignored during auto create
  • Fixed Hooks and Mounts being usable after Mediumcore death
  • Fixed Trident movement impacting minecarts
  • Fixed Angler Quest fishing icon disappearing when a player dies
  • Fixed an issue where Key of Light/Night spawned mimics left behind phantom ghost chest tiles
  • Fixed Betsy’s loot having half the intended drop chance
  • Fixed Depth Meter displaying incorrect height biome when using camera-moving items
  • Cool Whip’s Snowflake should no longer attack critters, target dummies
  • Fixed Cool Whip’s Snowflake not despawning when a player dies or quits
  • Fixed Exquisitely Fed buff not giving Ranged Damage
  • Fixed Ocean critters spawning in deep caves below the Ocean
  • Fixed Lava Lamps being unable to be placed on tables
  • Fixed Mini Minotaur not animating properly while flying

Saints Row 3 Remastered Review – A Fresh Coat of Paint

There are two kinds of people: those that prefer Saints Row 2 and those that prefer Saints Row The Third (also known as Saints Row 3). Let me get this out of the way in case you’re wondering. I am decidedly and emphatically in the former. That’s not to say that I didn’t enjoy Saints Row The Third when it released in 2011, I did. Quite a bit, however, I felt it leaned too far into science fiction and became, dare I say it, too over the top for me to enjoy it as much as Saints Row 2.

However, nine years have passed and Deep Silver has seen fit to give it the remastered treatment and include all of the DLC. As far as remasters go, it sure looks better; unfortunately little else has been improved. Read on for our Saints Row 3 Remastered review.

The Boys Are Back in Town

Right out the gate, I will say that if you absolutely loved Saints Row 3 the first time, you’re going to love this remaster. It’s the same game, only with much better lighting and improved textures. The most noticeable difference is when driving at night. With HDR enabled it looks fantastic. I did have to bump up the brightness a bit because without headlights (I crashed) it was really hard to see in the less populated areas of Stillwater.

Beyond that, however, it really does just look like the same last-gen game, only in higher definition. It’s not that I expected a remake a la Resident Evil Remake 2 and RE3 Remake, but it’s still a missed opportunity to me to really improve upon the base game. If you’ve played that game, you know exactly what to expect, character customization is back and it’s just as limited (in comparison to Saints Row 2) as it was before. In Saints Row 2, I was able to make a reasonable likeness of myself to put myself into the game. In Saints Row 3 the options for things like facial hair or even standard hair choices, feel less robust — especially in the facial hair department. I am well aware that this can seem like a nit-pick and maybe it is but it’s my nit to pick. If this doesn’t bother you, again, you can skip this review and go right to buying.

If It Ain’t Completely Broke…

Structurally I do think Saints Row 3 did improve in some areas over its predecessor, notably in how missions are selected. Rather than driving to a checkpoint somewhere on the map to accept and begin a mission, all available missions are accessible from your in-game cellphone. Just select the mission from the respective mission giver and you’re all set. You can absolutely put off other missions until you’ve leveled up some and have better stats and weapons. Once you’ve completed a mission you get cash and that cash can be spent on character upgrades, customizing your character, buying weapons and ammo or buying property. Buying property works as it does in similar games, helps you generate revenue. The more expensive the property, the more money it will generate.

One of the odder choices Saints Row 3 made was on how you get around the map. Early on you’re driving but not long after you begin the game you can take over a penthouse base with helipad where you can then get a flying vehicle and bypass driving almost entirely save for missions that still require it. And later in the game, you get an ability that basically makes cars obsolete. Sure, it makes it fun, but it also makes investing any in-game currency on customizing automobiles pretty meaningless.

The gameplay hasn’t changed a bit in this remaster and that also means it hasn’t aged well. It still controls well enough but third-person shooting has come quite a way since 2011, so it can make left trigger aiming, which isn’t always necessary, feel clunkier than I would have liked.

The Sounds of Stillwater

All of the audio remains unchanged as far as I can tell so the same songs are in the game so if you have a station you loved in 2011, it’s here for you in 2020. Another reason I preferred Saints Row 2 was because I found the music to be overall more to my liking with songs from The Dillinger Escape Plan and Paramore — no such comparable songs exist in Saints Row 3, which I again acknowledge is my thing and won’t really affect anyone’s enjoyment should the care about such things.

You’ll notice that I haven’t really touched on the story and that’s because I’ve always found the stories in the Saints Row games to be largely forgettable, and not at all what I come to the series for. Needless to say, the story is ridiculous, but mostly well-acted and presented. The humor remains of the dick and fart joke variety and for me, has always been largely hit and miss.

At the end of the day, Saints Row the Third Remastered changes very little other than provide a bump up in its aesthetics so if you loved the game nine years ago you’re going to love it now, regardless of anything I’ve said here. Unfortunately, time and distance haven’t made my issues with the original game go away, and playing it now made me realize just how much I think this franchise needs a massive upgrade for the impending Saints Row 5. This game was originally a massive hit for them and dictated the tone for the franchise going forward so I have little hope they will dial the ridiculous back.

SCORE: 7/10

PROS

  • A good looking remaster
  • All the extra outfits you could want
  • Gameplay remains unchanged and dated but it’s still fun
  • All of the music from the original game is retained

CONS

  • Not as good as Saints Row 2
  • Customization is surprisingly limited
  • It’s not as funny as it thinks it is
  • No gameplay improvements

How Will the Brotherhood of Steel Fit Into Fallout 76?

With the announcement of the 2020 roadmap for Fallout 76 came confirmation that the Brotherhood of Steel will be coming to the game. Now that Wastelanders has paved the way for human NPCs, it only makes logical sense for the most iconic army in the franchise to finally wade in.

However, even since the launch of Fallout 76 there has been mention of the Brotherhood of Steel, and there are many easier things to do than try to repcon lore for this universe in particular, like buying Caps for Fallout 76.

Bethesda has attempted to justify the group’s presence in the area in the past, but now it seems like they’re going to go one step further and just put them in there. But how will the Brotherhood of Steel fit into Fallout 76? Well, based on what Bethesda has said in the past, and the lore of the franchise, we can put together a rough timeline to work out just how the Brotherhood of Steel could be in West Virginia at a much earlier point in Fallout history.

Back to the beginning

how will the brotherhood of steel fit into fallout 76

The Brotherhood of Steel began on the West Coast of the US, specifically in California in the Mariposa Military Base. Prior to becoming the Brotherhood of Steel, they were just a group of soldiers who were led by Roger Maxson, acting as guards for the base. Interestingly, scientists at the base were experimenting with the FEV virus, the one that makes Super Mutants.

At some point, Maxson realised that military prisoners were being used as test subjects by the scientists. Needless to say, he was not okay with this, and led a rebellion that saw almost all of the scientists at the base killed. This direct disobeying of military orders is at the heart of the Brotherhood of Steel wherever you find them, and the only reason that they got away with it is because the bombs dropped just after the rebellion was done. Shortly after this, Maxson moves over to Lost Hills, which is quickly established as the West Coast HQ for the Brotherhood of Steel.

In West Virginia, where Fallout 76 is set, while all of this is happening, there is no Brotherhood of Steel. So how does the group even get a foothold in the area? Well, what West Virginia did have prior to the bombs dropping was a small camp of soldiers known as Taggerdy’s Thunder. These soldiers were simply stationed in the area between deployments, and all they had to do all day was run war games with other soldiers in the area.

taggerdys thunder

When the bombs dropped on the US, Taggerdy’s Thunder found themselves completely isolated. They have no direction from military higher ups, so they jumped on the radio and searched for any sort of military authority so that they could get some orders, and get to work.

While on the radio, who does the group find but Roger Maxson. Now, Maxson was actually reaching out for anyone in Appalachia for a reason, but we’ll circle back to this in a moment. Over the course of the radio conversations, Maxson and the leader of Taggerdy’s Thunder, Elizabeth Taggerdy, figure out that they actually know each other. Having both served in the military for some time, it’s not hard to see this as plausible.

Of course, when Taggerdy finds out that Maxson disobeyed direct orders, she questions it. However, one way or another, she comes to accept what Maxson has done. Given that the military has basically been wiped out, she doesn’t have much of a choice.

From here, Taggerdy’s Thunder move into Camp Venture, an old survival training camp. You can come across the camp, and relics of the group, whilst playing and exploring in Fallout 76. When they were based here, the group began recruiting the soldiers in the local area who were also looking for some sort of overall leadership. After a while, Taggerdy’s Thunder were invited, by Maxson himself, to join the Brotherhood of Steel.

In this way, you can see how the Brotherhood of Steel came to be in Appalachia without actually hauling their metal-clad asses all the way across the country. This was just another group of soldiers who adopted the same ideologies, and really that’s all that makes any soldier a member of the Brotherhood of Steel.

Maxson placed a lot of trust in Taggerdy, and as a result, the Appalachian Brotherhood of Steel were basically autonomous from the main group. Unfortunately for the other groups in Appalachia, Taggerdy was extremely military focused, and didn’t get along with, or want to help, the other factions you find in Fallout 76.

However, the Appalachian Brotherhood of Steel did help in the fight against the Super Mutants, and at one point they went out exploring to gather as much old tech as possible. This became an ideology of the main group early on, so it would make sense for this splinter group to do the same, once they’d been given orders.

Once the group grew too big, having absorbed a good chunk of the remaining humans in the area into their ranks, they were forced to move from Camp Venture to Fort Defiance. This new location is much bigger, and you can also find it while exploring the world of Fallout 76.

Fort Defiance is also a big move for the Appalachian Brotherhood of Steel because it is much closer to Fissure Site Prime. Fissure Sites are where the Scorchbeasts emerge from in Fallout 76, and the proximity to this site in particular meant that the Appalachian Brotherhood of Steel were one of the first factions to encounter the monsters.

Whilst the group had the weapons to scare off the Scorchbeasts, they recognised them as a significant threat. Taggerdy actually communicated with the main group, and Maxson, explaining that the Scorchbeasts should be branded as an extinction level threat to humanity.

From this point, the West Coast Brotherhood of Steel did what they could to help the Appalachian group fight against the Scorchbeasts. They didn’t send troops, but they did work on ideas for weaponry, technology that might be able to fight the Scorchbeasts, and even sent supplies over.

Whilst the resources supplied by the West Coast Brotherhood of Steel helped, they weren’t helping enough, and that was communicated by Taggerdy. With the only more powerful weapons at the Appalachian Brotherhood of Steel’s disposal being nuclear bombs, Taggerdy wanted to give them a try. This is what players do in Fallout 76, and it does provide a temporary fix to the Fissure Sites.

However, Maxson didn’t want Taggerdy to use the bombs, and urged her to use anything else. With both leaders coming to a head on the directions they wanted to push the fight, communication broke down and eventually ended.

Before setting off the nukes, the Appalachian Brotherhood of Steel gave one last plan a try. They entered the lair of the Scorchbeasts, in a mission called Operation Touchdown. The idea was to finish off all of the Scorchbeasts once and for all, where they lived, and it worked to a degree.

Following the mission, no new Scorchbeasts emerged for about one week, but then new ones began to appear. That is sort of the end of the Appalachian Brotherhood of Steel. There are other bits and pieces of lore that suggest that some may have lived on after the mission, but everything points to the last few soldiers simply dying in epic one on one battles with one or two Scorchbeasts. Either that, or they left to recoup and get ready for their big return.

With the Wastelanders expansion, there was one Brotherhood of Steel NPC added to the game. Their name is Jonah Ito, and they’re pretty useless. It seems as though they’re in the area in order to find the Appalachian Brotherhood of Steel, and don’t know anything more about them than you could find out for yourself.

Bethesda’s justification

bethesda ama on the brotherhood of steel in fallout 76

When they were asked about the Brotherhood of Steel and Fallout 76, Bethesda replied by describing how the group were now watching the Appalachian Wasteland very closely. This could mean nothing, or it could relate to why Roger Maxson was seeking out anyone he could in Appalachia through the radio.

Maxson didn’t know that Taggerdy was stationed in West Virginia, so we can assume that he wasn’t trying to get in touch with her. There aren’t any more details on why Maxson was trying to get in touch with someone in the area, or who they were, but it is interesting that he seems to have been looking for something from the very beginning.

Maxson’s motivations

fallout-roger-maxson

There are a couple of possibilities for Maxon’s interest in the area. First, he could have been trying to secure the nuclear silos, since that fits in with the group’s ideologies. Maxson may also have been trying to find out where the FEV research in Appalachia was taking place, in an attempt to formulate a plan to stop it. The group was born by stopping the experimentation in the first place, so it would make sense that they’d want to see it end everywhere.

It’s also just possible that Maxson was interested in the White Springs Bunker, which was home to the Enclave in Fallout 76, and designed to hold members of the government, much like Lost Hills, where he moves the Brotherhood of Steel to.

Of course, the most likely reason for the Brotherhood of Steel to be watching, and come over to, Appalachia, is the Appalachian Brotherhood of Steel. As far as Maxson knows, the group is still fighting against the Scorchbeasts, and if they’ve lost, someone still needs to deal with them. The group could be coming to West Virginia to try to finish the job, and then find out that some Vault Dwellers actually did all of their work for them. Still, in Fallout 76, it has been 20 years since Maxson last communicated with Taggerdy, so it would stand to reason that a group of soldiers would be sent over.

Unlike the later leaders we see in the Brotherhood of Steel, Maxson was concerned about gathering technology in order to help and protect those who have survived the bombs dropping. Given this mindset, it would make sense that he would send as many soldiers as he could to Appalachia in order to prevent an extinction level event, which the Scorchbeasts certainly are.

So now we have all of that backstory out of the way, how will the Brotherhood of Steel fit into Fallout 76?

Best theories

best theories for brotherhood of steel in fallout 76

Well, the most likely solution is a return of the surviving members of Taggerdy’s Thunder, who became the Appalachian Brotherhood of Steel. These guys may have survived the initial onslaught against the Scorchbeasts, and fled the area in order to regroup. They could also have been recruiting new soldiers from the area, as they were recruited themselves, which would bolster their numbers.

It’s possible that as part of the questline for the Appalachian Brotherhood of Steel, players will be indoctrinated into the group. This would fit thematically because every other faction also has a quest that sees players join them. Overall, this would lead to an army of Vault Dwellers becoming soldiers for the cause, who will then be able to fight against the Scorchbeasts.

It’s possible that a group of soldiers could trek across the country to meet the Scorchbeast threat in Appalachia, but I think that it’s far more likely that this will be a re-establishment of the Appalachian Brotherhood of Steel. With Wastlanders adding human NPCs, there are plenty of people in the area to become soldiers, so it makes much more sense.

What do you think about this idea for how Bethesda will bring the Brotherhood of Steel to Fallout 76? Let us know in the comments.

Heads up, legends! Respawn Entertainment has released the Apex Legends update 1.39 May 20 patch, and while it’s a super small download, it’s been rolled out to fix something big and that’s the hit registration issues gamers have been suffering through.

Apex Legends update 1.39 May 20 patch notes:

Don’t expect a full-fledged patch notes list, but the hit registration fix was confirmed by Respawn Entertainment Producer Josh Medina over on Twitter.

Just wanna say that the guy who busted his ass to fix hit reg is my dude
@ricklesauceur

I hope he actually enjoys the long weekend and now we can update his code schedule lol

As far as we know, that’s it, but hopefully, it fixes the pre-game crashes as well. If you notice anything that got changed or improved (definitively) in this Apex Legends update 1.39 May 20 patch, let us know down in the comments and we’ll update the post (crediting you).

In other Apex Legends news, Respawn Entertainment has announced that they’ve opened a new studio in Vancouver just for the game. While this might be good news for Apex Legends fans, Titanfall players will be sad to know that the studio confirmed that there’s no new Titanfall game in development.

Sony and Microsoft Partnership With Cloud Gaming Is “Deepening”

It has been exactly one year since we’ve heard anything substantial on the Sony and Microsoft partnership, and while both companies remain tightlipped in terms of what will be offered, Sony has opened up on the current relationship between Microsoft.

During the earnings call (transcribed by VGC) last Tuesday, Sony’s executive vice president Toru Katsumoto spoke about the partnership, describing it to be ‘very strong”.

“Since last year we have been discussing this collaboration with Microsoft. In addition to cloud streaming games [there are] semiconductors, consumer electronics and remote solutions… in these areas we are proceeding with our discussions,” he said. “Microsoft Azure has splendid cloud technologies and they have given us [clear] explanations so far. Each side has its merits and it seems that our mutual understanding is deepening after discussions. In a mid to long-term basis, it is going to be a very strong partnership.”

With game streaming becoming a major focus for both companies, it makes sense why they would want to team up. Microsoft has a major investment with its cloud services Azure, and Sony’s strong foothold in the streaming service with PS Now is one not to be ignored. Both can learn from one another, though in truth this partnership is likely geared towards the other major cloud competitor, Amazon, and Google.

It will be interesting to see what comes out of this Sony and Microsoft partnership, though we don’t expect to see much this year, or at least until next-gen consoles (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X) launch later this year. Perhaps Sony will look into using Microsoft’s excellent Azure service for PS Now? Who knows? But we’ll be sure to keep you all posted if any new development arises.

Battlefield 5 June Map Will Be for 64 Players. Provence 64-Player Map Might Be Incoming

With DICE set to release the last content drop for Battlefield 5 this June, possibly the most important piece of content in it is a new map called “Libya.” For those wondering, the Battlefield 5 June map will be for large battles, as DICE has confirmed that this upcoming map is made for 64-player matches!

This was confirmed by DICE Community Manager Adam Freeman over on the Battlefield 5 subreddit where a fan asked whether the Battlefield 5 June map will be for 64 players or not.

If that’s not enough large-scale warfare for you, it seems that the Provence map might be getting a 64-player version in the June update as well! This was unearthed by reliable Battlefield dataminer temporyal.

There’s no guarantee that Provence will get a 64-player map version, but the upcoming new map should scratch that large scale warfare itch for most Battlefield 5 players.

For now, there’s no specific release date for the June Battlefield 5 patch, but once we know when it’s out, we’ll be sure to let our readers know. We should get the patch notes ahead of the actual patch’s deployment as is the norm with DICE.
