Xbox One X Pre-Order Plans to Be Made Clear During gamescom

Microsoft has got big, big plans for this year’s gamescom. And you can understand why, what with the pressure mounting ahead of the Xbox One X launch. If gamers are to be persuaded into buying, a bunch of new games and hardware features will need to be shown off.

Absolver Multiplayer Trailer Explains Online Features, Post-Release Content Plan Detailed

Those of you who wish to be properly prepared for Absolver‘s release on August 29, whether you plan to do combat on PS4 or PC, should take note of the lessons taught in the multiplayer trailer embedded below. Learn how the online player versus player system works, how to work your way up the progression ladder, and all about character customization.

The core of Absolver’s gameplay is its deep fighting mechanics and online combat. Prospects will enter the plains of Adal alone and encounter both AI-controlled opponents and live players through Absolver’s shared online experience structure. Players will roam the world as their own independent ‘server’ as the game seamlessly introduces other Prospects into their game experience.

Once players encounter one another they will have a choice to engage in friendly sparring, more aggressive PvP combat, or cooperative PvE play with up to three players at once. Through online cooperative play each Prospect will be able to learn new moves from one another, progress on their path to Absolution, and gain experience points that can be spent on one of six attributes to improve their skills.

Absolver also features unique fighting school mechanic where more advanced players can create their own school of combat that other players may join. The school creator effectively becomes a mentor to these students and this relationship allows for the mentor’s students to use their Combat Deck and the more robust catalog of more advanced moves that comes with it.

Developer Sloclap has also announced the first bit of post-release content: a three versus three mode, ranked matches, and a spectator mode to watch the action and jump in when it’s your turn to battle. Additional content, including new gameplay modes, new features, and new moves to expand players’ customizable Combat Deck, will come to the game over the next six months.

Fancy a go at Absolver‘s online play? I’m definitely liking the look of it!

Call of Duty: WWII Fighter Pilot Scorestreak Will Let You Know When a Target Is Not in Reach

In case you didn’t see it, Activision released the official Call of Duty: WWII multiplayer beta trailer last week. As one can expect, there’s a lot of fast-paced shooting that one expects from any Call of Duty game.

Another thing fans look forward to in every Call of Duty multiplayer are the scorestreaks. In the trailer, we get to see some of them in action, and one of them is the “Fighter Pilot” sccorestreak that lets you take aim and fire a strafing run at enemies while in an aircraft. While that in itself isn’t really new since past CoD games featured the same scorestreak equivalent, Sledgehammer Games is making it a bit easier to use the Fighter Pilot scorestreak by letting users know when someone is out of range.

Check out the mage below to see how this new mini feature will work in-game:

Of course, this won’t let you automatically hit everyone you’re aiming at, but this little quality of life addition should make using this scorestreak a little bit better. Not to mention aiming or shooting at enemies you don’t know you can’t hit is just damn frustrating.

Stay tuned for more Call of Duty: WWII news from MP1st.

It’s good to see so many GT Sport trailers, as they really help showcase what the game is all about, and drive excitement levels that little bit higher. Destiny 2 Won’t Come to Steam

With Destiny 2 coming to PC, it’s understandable that some people might want to buy the game on Steam given the digital store platform’s popularity. While Activision announced that Destiny 2 will only be available on its own Battle.net storefront, Destiny 1’s “Silver” currency popped up on Steam recently that got some people to snatch it up and believe Destiny 2 is Steam-bound.

Sorry, Destiny 2 fans! Destiny 1 Silver being available on Steam was just an error and won’t be actually be happening even. This was confirmed by Destiny 2 Community Manager David “DeeJ” Dague over on Twitter.

And just to drive the point harder, DeeJ tweeted that Destiny 2 will only appear on Battle.net and nowhere else for PC gamers.

Destiny 2 will be available on PC on October 24, with the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions hitting sooner on September 6.

In related news, Activision Blizzard has once again rebranded Battle.net for a second time.

Madden NFL 18 Review – Not a Longshot

When EA’s founder Trip Hawkins pitched the idea of an American Football game in 1984 to the legendary football pro John Madden, one of the only things demanded by the Hall of Famer was that the game is as realistic as possible. Four years later, what was known as John Madden Football at the time, the first title of an almost 30-year long franchise was born, and what followed was a classic series that not only brought NFL fans together but also future NFL players.

EA is again back at it with another installment, predictably called Madden NFL 18. The newest release in the series features a couple of new features, a brand new engine, and for the first time — single-player story. But will another refresh of the franchise with a couple of polished spots and some new additions be worth the asking price of $60?

Hut Hut

Founded on realism, the gameplay of Madden NFL 18 truly shines with a soft glow accent reminiscent of the older titles. Electronic Arts clearly heard the feedback from the community when it came to the gameplay feeling too gimmicky in Madden NFL 17 and decided that a more traditional route had to be taken, which absolutely paid off in my opinion. Madden 18 also feels a lot smoother than previous installments, making for a much more immersive experience that doesn’t constantly hiccup and makes you want to punt your controller into the TV’s end field.

Madden NFL 18 Football player running with the ball in hand while being chased by opponents while crowd watches on in the background

Smooth gameplay isn’t the only thing that makes Madden 18 so good. The newest introduction of Target Passing, a new passing feature which allows you to lead your receivers to open areas of the field to land throws is not only difficult but overpowered. That’s not a downside though, as it marks another step in the right direction of a better feel of the game.

Madden 18 does come with a few new plays and minor features to try in the game, like new grabbing tackles and a revamped Ball Hawk mechanic, but aside from that the only thing that has noticeably given the newest title a standout compared to last year’s edition is that it’s more polished and smoother. Like a fine wine, Madden ages quite nicely.

Purple 6, Resident Evil Pinch, Set…HIKE

The biggest addition to Madden NFL 18 is the new single-player story. You play an upcoming college drop-out football wannabe Devin Wade, who wants to join the NFL with his best friend Colt Cruise. When I first was looking at the game and saw this new story advertised, I was skeptical as to whether it would be any good, given that there isn’t much to do in football games other than, well, playing matches.

Image of Longshot story mode logo for Madden NFL 18, the image has light protruding from behind the dark letters, with a man standing between the words long and shot

My skepticism was well placed. Longshot, as EA is calling it, is at best a gimmicky story mode with a few funny moments and lots of bad acting. I know what you’re thinking: why would you expect something better? I expected something better because it’s a selling point of this year’s game, and what it offers is a sequel to Resident Evil 6’s excessively long cinematic times that makes me feel like I’m watching a poorly written Netflix series.  In the moments that you do play, it is the standard skirmishes or big games along with the occasional RPG feature of choosing how to respond to a question or make a decision that can affect Devin or Colt’s fate (but not really).

Showboating Your Gloating Skills

It’s not a Madden NFL game without the four player co-op and multiplayer modes, which, like the rest of the game, work flawlessly. The 3v3 online is chock full of intense moments, frustrating play making, and satisfying victories as you scream at your television wondering why your teammate ran the other way. During my 10 hours of playing online, I didn’t experience any noticeable lag, only smooth sailing, and passing.

MUT, Madden’s fantasy football feature, is also seeing a return this year, and its every bit of fun as it was last year. Like before, you build your fantasy team and either go head to head against AI and absolutely dominate or head against other players online and get destroyed by an All-Star team. With that said, unlike 17 where you practically required to grind to keep up with other teams, Madden NFL 18 doesn’t make MUT a full-time job to keep having fun.

Score 7.5/10

Pros:

• Smooth gameplay makes for immersive and engaging experience
• Target Passing is baller( pun intended)
• Return to realistic style gameplay

Cons

• Story mode is gimmicky and feels out of place

Played Madden NFL 18 on Xbox One for 18 hours, review code provided by EA. Madden NFL 18 is set for release this August 25 on the PS4 and Xbox One.

Big thanks to Ryan “rigbae” Cote for helping out with the review.

Crackdown 3 Delayed to 2018

Remember Crackdown 3? Yeah, the same Crackdown 3 that got announced way back in 2014? Well. if you were thinking of playing it this year as originally planned, you’re in for some bad news.

Microsoft has confirmed that instead of the original launch date of November 7, 2017, the new Crackdown 3 release date is scheduled for spring 2018. The reason for the delay? It’s just a case of polishing the game and ensuring it delivers on the quality side.

This is what Shannon Loftis, Microsoft Studios Publishing GM had to say about the Crackdown 3 delay:

We’re very excited about Crackdown 3, and so are many fans, and so it’s a difficult call to move the release date. However, we want to make sure to deliver the right game, with the right quality, and at the right time. Crackdown 3 is a hugely ambitious game and we want to ensure we deliver the right experiences all the way through every part of the game, whether that’s campaign, co-op multiplayer or our competitive multiplayer mode, Wrecking Zone. Getting the balance right between the three modes is important, and we are going to take the extra development time to ensure that. Gamers can expect Crackdown 3 in Spring of 2018.

Well, there you go. Once we hear the final Crackdown 3 release date, we’ll be sure to let everyone know.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds to Drop Weekly and Monthly Patch Schedule

For PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds players, expecting regular PUBG updates has become the norm now, what with weekly and monthly title updates that do anything from fixing tweaks, adding new content and so on.

Well, that’s coming to halt right about now. In a post on the Steam Community page,  Bluehole wrote a lengthy letter explaining that the studio is changing the way they roll out game updates regularly, and that the game is still on-track to meet its release.

Today we are changing our patch and update schedule to improve how we work on the game, as well as set realistic expectations for players. Until the official release of the game, we will not have our scheduled weekly or monthly patches rolling out as often as before. We’ve found internally that being rushed to finish certain features, and having shorter QA test time between pushing updates caused more issues than it solved in regards to maintaining a high standard of quality. We want to put our best content out, and ensure that everything we do is making the game more enjoyable with every update.

Again, we would like to assure you all that we are still on-track to release our game as per our updated timeline, and we want to emphasize to you that we are not winding down the development, or complacent. We have a lot of work to do, and we want this game to be released with as many fun, rich, enjoyable features and mechanics as possible. Our team will continue to be hard at work, and we are always listening to your feedback.

Check out the full post right here.

In related news, a small PUBG update is also out today (what timing, no?!) that fixes a few bugs and won’t impact the servers in anyway (read: no server maintenance).

Early Access – Week 21 – Patch Notes

Bug Fixes

  • Partially fixed client crash

  • Fixed marker graphics bug on the World map

  • Fixed miscellaneous bugs with team game reconnect feature

  • Fixed a bug that caused a player to exit a vehicle when they pressed ‘F’ to cancel using an energy drink

In other PUBG news, we reported yesterday that the game, which is still in Early Access, has already reached over seven million unit sales and over 600,000 concurrent players. It’s safe to say that the game s a massive success. Let’s hope Bluehole doesn’t do anything to spoil that.

LawBreakers Update 1.1 Implements Balance Changes & “Crucial Bug Fixes and Improvements”

The first post-launch patch is coming to LawBreakers on PC. Update 1.1 includes a bunch of gameplay balance changes, while also squashing some nasty bugs. It’s not yet clear when the update will hit PS4, but it shouldn’t be too long of a wait for console players.

Here’s the full list of changes that update 1.1 brings:

NEW ADDITIONS:

  • *NEW* Open Stash Boxes while waiting in matchmaking lobby and queue!
    giphy.gif

ROLE CHANGES:
Gunslinger –
“We’ve gotten a lot of feedback about the feeling of Gunslinger’s Warp ability. Our intention with Warp is to keep it primarily as in-combat mobility option, but we understand it can leave him feeling sluggish when simply traversing the map. Gaining momentum with abilities and keeping it with well-timed skip jumps is a key mechanic in the game, so we’ve bumped up the impulse gained from using Warp to better help him ramp up to speed. In terms of combat Gunslinger is dominant right now, so we’ve nudged down his fully charged Omega damage and reduced the headshot multiplier on the TAC-knife so that it no longer one-shots squishy enemies.

Gunslinger is also getting a new mechanic. Gunslinger’s identity is all about precision – with no splash damage in his kit he lives or dies by his aim. We thought this was a good opportunity to reward Gunslinger’s who aim true.”

  • Horizontal warp impulse increased 300 → 500
  • New mechanic: landing a fully charged Omega headshot now replenishes a Warp ability charge.
    giphy.gif
  • Reduced Headshot damage multiplier on TAC Knife from 1.5 → 1.25.
  • Reduced fully charged Omega max damage from 160 → 150.

Harrier –
“Harrier’s Convergence ability is meant to deal tons of damage at the cost of reduced mobility, but it was so overtuned that you’d get melted before you could react to it. We’re dropping the DPS on the super laser to make it easier for coordinated teams to take advantage of Harrier’s vulnerability.”

  • Decreased Harrier’s Convergence ability damage per second from 500 → 400.
    giphy.gif

Wraith –
“The Wasp stab is getting the same precision treatment we gave to Assassin during beta. Wraith’s are going to have to be more accurate if they want the full damage out of the stab.”

  • Wasp stab base damage reduced 125 → 75
  • *NEW* stab precision damage → 125
    giphy.gif

BUG FIXES:
Gameplay –

  • Fixed a bug where Gunslinger would sometime’s get stuck in a state where they could not shoot.
  • Fixed an issue where Harrier’s Shoc-Croc may not have applied damage in certain situations.
  • Fixed an issue where Crisper was dealing extra damage briefly after coming out of Berserk mode.
  • Enemy impulses now affect Wraith’s Wasp Stab and Slide abilities.

Animation –

  • Fixed in game animdynamics on all characters.
    • Dynamic character elements such as hair, ammo packs, and belts will now animate in game and not just in the menus.

Controls –

  • Fixed an issue where selected gamepad presets wouldn’t reset to default correctly.

Text / Languages –

  • Updated text for supported languages to fix issues relted to achievements, scoring events, and menus.

GENERAL ADDITIONS/IMPROVEMENTS:

  • Greatly improved match filling logic.
    • Most cases where a game was unable to fill to 5 players have been addressed.

PC ONLY GENERAL ADDITIONS/IMPROVEMENTS:

  • *NEW Beta Feature* Korean has been added as a language option.
    • New features flagged as Beta are still in development and may experience issues.
  • Mouse sensitivity slider can now be adjusted from 0.1 – 39.9.

It looks like the folks over at Boss Key Productions are still grinding hard to support their game. If there’s one way to help boost a dwindling player count, it’s to stay dedicated.

Cliff Bleszinski referred to the game’s success as “a marathon not a sprint,” so expect the patches and support to keep on coming.

PS4 Update 5.00 Beta Launches Today, Key Features Revealed

PS4 update 5.00 has been eagerly anticipated by many Sony system owners, as the point-0-0 update promises some big changes and added functionality. Starting today, beta testers will get to play around with all of the new features coming to PS4 and PS4 Pro hardware.

If you’re not in the beta, fear not, for you can at least read about the key features included in the update:

Family on PSN

We’re overhauling the current master/sub-account system, and introducing the new “Family on PlayStation Network.” This new system will offer a more flexible experience for families on PS4 by making it easier to setup PSN accounts for children and customize parental control settings. Below are the new features that will be introduced with family on PSN:

Family Manager, Parent/Guardian

Family on PSN will allow multiple adults to be part of a single family. The Family Manager can promote another adult inside the family to a Parent/Guardian, who can then customize parental control levels of children’s accounts.

PS4 System Software Update 5.00

Individualized Parental Controls

Before this update, the same parental controls were applied to all users on the same console, including adults. But with 5.00, all controls (including game age ratings) can be individually attuned for each child.

Friend List Management

In place of the current ‘Favorite Groups’ tab, we’re adding a new ‘Custom Lists’ tab within Friends, which allows you to create and edit custom lists of your friends. This makes it easier for you to manage your friends and access specific groups. For example, you can create a custom list of your Destiny teammates and easily send them raid invites.

PS4 System Software Update 5.00

Broadcast feature updates

Communities

If you own a community, you can now bind your community to your broadcast. When a broadcast is linked to a community, the community button appears on the Live from PlayStation spectator screen. Once a spectator clicks on the community button, they’ll be able to jump directly to your community page to check out the details.

PlayStation VR

We’ve added a new setting in PlayStation VR: Display Message to Spectators and Spectators’ Comments. Once this is enabled, spectator comments sent during a broadcast is displayed not only in cinematic mode, but also in VR mode. This makes it much easier for VR broadcasters to keep up on comments and communicate with their viewers.

PlayStation 4 Pro

Good news Twitch users: with this update, PS4 Pro will support 1080p 60fps streaming on Twitch.

Messages Improvements

You’ve already been able to share your favorite music to Twitter and Facebook via PlayStation Music, but now you’ll also be able to share via messages using your PS4. If your friends are on PS4, they can listen to the track right inside the message by booting up Quick Menu, and if they’re on their mobile device, they can jump directly to the Spotify app from the PS Messages app to check out the song.

In addition, if you’re part of multiple message groups, you can now easily leave several groups at once. Just open up Options in the message list, select Leave, and choose the message groups you want to leave.

PS4 System Software Update 5.00

Notifications Updates

We’ve added a new setting that allows you to disable pop-up notifications while you’re watching a movie or TV show on your PS4. This setting is off by default, so go to Settings > Notifications to disable notifications and go uninterrupted during your videos.

PS4 System Software Update 5.00

NBA 2K18 Trailer Wants You to “Get Shook”

2K Sports has released a new NBA 2K18 trailer, and as one can expect, it features the NBA’s best doing the stuff they do best. We get to see the new player trades already in effect (hello, Jimmy Butler in Minnesota unis!).

As for the gameplay, it’s really what you expect from an NBA 2K game. Graphics look amazing, the player renditions are fantastic same as always. Of course, we do want to know if it’s better this year, but we’ll have to wait a month before we find out.

Let’s hope NBA 2K18 does a few things better than last year’s version since EA seems to have a solid offering with NBA Live 18 this year, which could prove to be interesting for NBA fans who are used to getting NBA 2K every year.

NBA 2K18 will shoot its way out this September 15 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.

Rainbow Six Siege Theme Park Map Showcased in New Operation Blood Orchid Trailer

Though we already know which operators the Operation Blood Orchid expansion is adding to Rainbow Six Siege, thanks to the leaks earlier today, details surrounding the new map have been kept fairly secure. We knew it was a theme park, but that’s about it. Happily, Ubisoft has not only given a short description of the map, but also a minute-long trailer.

Team Rainbow has been called to raid an abandoned theme park on the shores of Hong Kong. Two of S.D.U.’s most resourceful Operators were chosen to lead a lethal raid in this challenging perimeter. Get ready to discover a colorful and eclectic new map filled with dynamic and fast-paced face-offs.

I spy a horror theme and several dark corridors to hide in. I’m looking forward to lighting the place up with gunfire! There’s an arcade machine, too, which better be playable! The ice cream parlor looks like it’s seen better days, though.

What do you make of the new Rainbow Six Siege Theme Park map? Looking forward to blowing the hell out of it?!

Call of Duty: WWII Multiplayer Pro Gameplay Provides a Good Look at Beta Maps & Modes

In another exclusive look at Call of Duty: WWII, the folks over at Game Informer have posted some multiplayer footage which shows a pro gamer-turned Activision employee wreaking serious havoc against the opposition.

The eight-minute video, which can be watched here, kicks things off with Hardpoint on the Gibraltar map. Further into the video, you’ll witness destruction on Pointe Du Hoc and Ardennes. Finally, there’s a look at the War mode with Operation Breakout. All of this action will be reproduced by yourself in the beta, assuming you have access and the skills required!

As this is a pro player, you’d be right to expect some high kill streaks and heavy artillery raining fire down onto the battlefield. This is gameplay from someone who knows what they are doing. As for the pro’s identity, Activision is keeping that under wraps for now.

So that’s what players will be experiencing in in the beta! Access will be granted to those who pre-ordered the game. It’s coming first to PS4, running from August 25 to August 28. Then there’s a second beta on PS4 and Xbox One during September 1-4. The full release of Call of Duty: WWII is happening on November 3.
