Twisted Metal will be Supported Post Launch – David Jaffe

Twisted Metal’s David Jaffe clarifies that Eat Sleep Play is committed to supporting the game post launch.

With recent news that Eat Sleep Play laid off eight employees, some jumped to the conculsion that Twisted Metal won’t be adequately supported. Game Director, David Jaffe, has reassured fans, via Twitter, that the team behind Twisted Metal is “supporting game post launch with balance, tweaking, tuning, and bug crunching.” He went on to add, “I’ve been saying for a YEAR there was no DLC planned. But the team- me included- is still cranking on TM post launch.”  He concluded, “we’re amazingly proud of this game and love the response to the demo. These are two different issues.”

Respawn Entertainment to Release Sci-Fi Shooter in 2013, Medal Of Honor Announcement March 6th

New information regarding two of EA’s hottest shooters have begun to surface. It looks like fans anxiously awaiting for Respawn Entertainment’s debut project won’t have to wait as long as originally thought. Also hinted to be announced soon is EA’s follow up to 2010’s Medal of Honor.

Respawn Entertainment, a studio formed by Ex-Infinity Ward employees, have been extremely secretive about their debut project, originally thought to arrive in 2015. The only information confirmed thus far is that it will be a sci-fi shooter rumored to be released on multiple platforms. Recently, French gaming site Hardgamers discovered a leaked EA Partners marketing calendar that states Respawn Entertainment’s debut project will see a 2013 release. No confirmation of a release window have been given by EA, but it looks like fans won’t have to hold their breath much longer.

Yesterday, we reported that PSM3, a UK-based PlayStation Magazine, teased an image of next month’s March 6th issue which is slated to announce a “mystery shooter sequel” from EA. On top of others, Medal of Honor 2 was one of the shooters speculated to be announced, but it looks like our guess may have recently been confirmed. Kotakureleased an image of an invitation (below) to an upcoming EA press event, also on March 6th. This image, noticeably sporting the “MOH” – Tier 1 logo, strongly alludes to an announcement of Medal of Honor 2 in coordination with PSM3.

Medal of Honor 2?

Are you excited for a Medal of Honor 2? Or, are you more concerned about the highly anticipated Respawn Entertainment project? Let us know in the comments below! Make sure to stay tuned to MP1st for more information on these two exciting shooters.

[Updated] Modern Warfare 3: Drop Zone Could Make a Return

Robert Bowling has just tweeted that “Drop Zone is returning to MW3 Community Playlists alongside Infected tonight!”

The addition of “Infected” gamemode to Modern Warfare 3 knocked off Drop Zone from the community playlists angering fans in the process.

Earlier today, Activision’s Dan Amrich asked upset fans, via Twitter, to either play Drop Zone in private matches, or politely voice their concerns on the official forums to “let the devs know.” The team behind Modern Warfare 3 took notice of the fan feedback, stating “we hear what you’re saying about missing Drop Zone in MW3 loud and clear!” Unfortunately, Modern Warfare 3 is currently “limited on playlist space,” according to Robert Bowling. However, Bowling assured that they are “looking at solutions for it!” Bowling last month promised to rotate gamemodes in the community playlists. Hopefully, Drop Zone will make its way back to the community playlists as it had an active player base.

Be sure to read more about Infected.

“A Mystery Shooter Sequel” to be Revealed Next Month, Black [Ops] 2, Medal of Honor 2, or What?

UK based PlayStation magazine, PSM3, has teased an image of the magazine’s March issue. PSM3 will reveal a “mystery shooter sequel” on March 6th.

Let’s rundown the possible shooters that could receive a squeal this year,

Black Ops 2: Considering Activision’s MO of debuting Call of Duty titles in May, it is highly unlikely that our mystery shooter is Black Ops 2.

Medal of Honor 2: EA could use a relatively early reveal to build hype for their next FPS, most probably Medal of Honor 2, that will go toe-to-toe with the next iteration of Call of Duty.

Other possibilities: Black 2, Bulletstorm 2, and MAG 2.

What did we miss? Guess away in the comments’ section below.

Thanks, VG247

Battlefield 3 – DICE Still Working on PS3 Input Lag, New Patch Details

Battlefield 3 players on the PS3 woke up to a nice little update this morning which should have addressed some of the VoIP issues that have been interfering with online communication since launch. But what about the PS3’s input lag? And, where is the “big” patch for all platforms that is meant to go live this month? Luckily, members of DICE have commented on the issue and we’ve learnt a few more details as to what fixes will be included once the next patch goes live.

Addressing Battlefield fans’s concerns about the PS3’s input lag issues, Community Manager, Daniel Matros had this to say: “Sorry but we’re still working on it. No updates from my end unfortunately.” So it looks like PS3 users will have to practice their monk-like patience until the issue is resolved.

Matros also cleared up some confusion surrounding the MAV exploit. We reported earlier that the “MAV exploit” is to be addressed in the next patch; however, it wasn’t clear whether DICE was referring specifically to “MAV riding” or its ability to roadkill an enemy. For those unaware, MAV riding entails a player jumping on top of the MAV as it elevates said player to generally unreachable areas, giving them an unintended advantage over others on the Battlefield. As for the other issue, surely many of you have already had to deal with a pesky MAV hovering over top of you trying to get you killed in the middle of a gunfight. Recently, Matros clarified the former to be the issue being looked into. “There will be a fix for Mav riding later on,” he said in response to one concerned fan. No word on whether or not DICE will be keeping the MAVs roadkill ability.

As for further patch details, it has already been stated that the USAS-12 equipped with FRAG rounds will be receiving tweaks, as will the Mortars and M-COM ribbons. Click on the links for more details. Senior Designer, Fredrik Thylander, was recently asked if the laser designation medal would also be receiving some tweaks. Along with the M-COM defender, it can be one of the harder achievement to earn. He replied, “we aren’t fixing the medal, we are fixing the actual laser targeting,” most likely making it easier laser designate targets. “What about suppression ribbon and flag defender/attacker?” Asked another fan. “Suppression ribbon is getting easier to get. Flag ribbons are about right actually,” answered Thylander.

Which ribbons/medals do you think need tweaking? Do you think the MAV should have the ability to roadkill enemies? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below and make sure to stay tuned to MP1st as we learn more about the upcoming Battlefield 3 patch.

Battlefield 3 PS3 Patch 1.03 Now Live, VoIP Issues Fixed

DICE has released patch 1.03 for Battlefield 3 on the PS3 to address the VoIP issues.

As DICE promised last month, the studio found and fixed the voice chat problems on the PS3 that have plagued the game since its launch. The patch is still being rolled out, so don’t worry if you haven’t received it yet. The patch will set you back 11MB in memory, and seems to only fix the voice chat problems.

Judging by the size of the patch and user feedback, this is not the much anticipated February patch that will address several bugs and exploits.

Twisted Metal – New Details on Custom Vehicle Skins with Images

David Jaffe has released some brand new Twisted Metal images showcasing various custom multiplayer skins.

Last week, David confirmed that Twisted Metal would support full user generated multiplayer skins. Though not much was detailed, David Jaffe has stated that any painting or art program can be used to create your own skins. From here you can then upload it via the official website, and other Twisted Metal players will be able to download the skins. Players can also make exclusive clan skins that only members of their clan will be able to use. On the subject of character customization. David Jaffe also confirmed that their would not be any custom skin for the characters. He states ” just didn’t have the time,” and that “vehicles made most sense”.

He stated that more details on the customization will “come very soon.”

Down below is just a sneak peek of what to expect from the from the skin customization tools. Images are caption with Jaffe’s comments on Twitter.

Twisted Metal – Demo Status, Nuke Mode Talon Issue Resolved In Retail Game

David Jaffe discusses the current status of the Twisted Metal’s demo along with addressing concerns over Talons.

David Jaffe has stated on Twitter that the matchmaking issues in the demo are still being worked on, and that the team has been working hard all weekend. Though, it has gotten much better, the team strives to make it 100% working, and hopefully can extend the demo a little longer for players.

As for the concerns over Talons in ranked games.  Although the demo had no vehicle restrictions, rank games in the final retail game will have them restricted in certain game modes including Nuke Mode. The issue isn’t that the vehicles are overpowered in the current demo, it’s just that there are way to many Talons being used at once. Jaffe saying that “Too many too much!!”

What Battlefield 3 Might Look Like During Winter

With Battlefield 3 DLC rumors being all the rage these days, one redditor took it upon himself to bring these whisperings at least one small step closer towards fruition.

If you haven’t yet heard, the hippest rumor circling the net recently is that DICE is secretly toiling away at creating an all American map pack due out this summer. With EA’s New York event just around the corner, where DICE is said to be making an official statement on upcoming DLC plans, Battlefield fans will soon be able to rest easy.

In the meantime, redditor ReignDown has brought to life concepts of yet another popular DLC rumor/request: Snow-covered maps. While DICE has stated this “cool” idea to be a definite possibility, ReignDown gives Battlefield fans a glimpse as to what some of our favorite maps might look like after Old Man Winter has hit the town.

Battlefield 3: Winter Warfare, anyone?

Battlefield 3 Patch Details – Mortars “Fixed”, M-COM Ribbons Tweaked and More

Battlefield 3 players on the PS3 will be seeing a patch on February 6th, tomorrow, which will address the VoIP problems. But what else will the upcoming patches include for other platforms? On top of the recent announcement of the USAS-12 shotgun fix, other patch details have begun to surface.

Mortars in have always been a controversial feature in Battlefield 3. Fans have been pleading that players should be unable set up mortars while in their own spawn where they could quite easily be unreachable. DICE has recently stated that it “will be fixed in next patch.”

Also awaiting some much needed tweaking are the M-COM ribbons, or more specifically, the M-COM Defender ribbon. Currently, achieving this ribbon can be an extremely difficult task given the unlikelihood of earning defender points in the Rush game mode. Luckily, Senior Designer, Fredrik Thylander, recently stated that “m-com defender and m-com attacker are easier to get in the next patch.”

Though the PS3 will be receiving an update tomorrow, DICE has not yet officially announced a date for the other platforms. There may still be a chance that other platforms will see a patch tomorrow as well, but DICE has been known to announce a date ahead of time in the past.

Lastly, It has come to our attention that some players on the Battlelog are reporting to have downloaded a 7GB patch for Battlefield 3 recently. DICE has officially commented on the matter: “We have not received official word of a patch so be cautious.”

Are you happy with what will be included in the upcoming patches so far? Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned as we find out more!

Twisted Metal Will Support User Generated Skins

David Jaffe has confirmed that the upcoming Twisted Metal game will support customizable paint skins and details how it works.

Starting sometime next week (before the game launches), Twisted Metal fans will be able to visit the official website and start uploading personally customized skins. Jaffe stated that these skins will be available in the game to download and can contain any design players want. This means that you’ll be able to use advanced programs such as Photoshop to create your very own vehicle paint skin, as stated on IGN Live. And yes, anything, and we mean anything, can be used as a skin. Although the game is rated M, it is not known whether or not there will be some sort of filter or moderation for content deemed inappropriate. It is probably likely since the EU version of Twisted Metal has been delayed partly for this reason.

Alternatively, you can also use the in-game paint shop, though you won’t be able to paint any custom skins other then the ones that are already shipped in the game.

Twisted Metal is set to release on February 14th on the PS3. Be sure to check out the latest Twisted Metal news.

Ghost Recon Future Soldier Multiplayer Details – Siege Mode and Objective-Based Gameplay

Ubisoft’s Thaddeus Sasser, Lead Multiplayer Game Designer on the upcoming Ghost Recon Future Soldier, gives fans an in-depth look into the highly anticipated competitive multiplayer mode that GRFS will be sporting come May 22 in North America.

Sasser recently sat down with Online Men’s Magazine, The Alpha Syndicate, in a “Q&A for the ages”. We’ve gathered all the important details below for your reading enjoyment.

The Last Man Standing game mode will not be returning this time around. Instead, the team will be bringing back Siege, a game type much like Last Man Standing, but with the addition of a central objective to be defended. Here, one team will spawn in a central location and will be required to defend an objective. Attackers will be deployed around the outside of the map. Each solder will have a single life with no respawns.

The objective capture rate has been sped up. The Confidence system affects hacking speed for Data Hacking (stealing an enemy’s positional intel from a stunned opponent). Other tools and features include in the competitive MP are UAVs, Suppression effects, and a Coordination System (players can mark objectives, enemy targets, or call for support). Ammo boxes and med kits will also be included.

Hardcore mode will not be present, although GRFS already includes high lethality. The HUD plays too important of a role to be excluded in any game type.

There will not be a dedicated first-person view. However, all guns do have a first-person scope view.

There will be a rank progression for system for public matches where players can unlock weapons and equipments based on their rank. An “open” system will be included for private matches. Meaning, all weapons and equipment are available for use.

GRFS will not include “killstreaks”. Focus is instead placed on rewarding players for completing objectives. For example, hacking into an enemy sensor network will reward players with positional intel, or capture ammo crates will allow players to resupply.

Included are 4 game types, 10 maps, 2 factions, 3 roles. Over 50 weapons, dozens of pieces of equipment, and a number of grenades are also at the disposal of every soldier.

GRFS will sport a fluid and responsive cover system. Sasser also assured fans that the 3rd person view isn’t over-effective as there is a stabilization period when moving with your weapon.

Sasser also added that, so far, a dominant strategy has yet to emerge during play tests. This should hopefully prove for balanced gameplay.

Visit The Alpha Syndicate for the full, written Q&A Session with Thaddeus Sasser.

New MW3 Xbox 360 Update Allows Elite DLC Access for Multiple Profiles

Infinity Ward has released a new mandatory update for Modern Warfare 3 on Xbox 360.

It’s worth noting that PS3 version of the game also received a new patch, 1.08, which Xbox 360 users downloaded on January 24th. However, unlike patch 1.08, the new update is not intended for weapon rebalancing and bug fixes, it is released to rectify the “unintentional” Elite DLC profile lock on Xbox 360. Numerically, this is title update #9, patch 1.09, for the 360. The 5MB patch fixes the Elite Gamertag lock allowing different profiles to access paid Elite DLC on the same console. As you may remember, last week Robert Bowling released a statement regarding the subject stating that players “who purchased the latest DLC Content Drop for Modern Warfare 3  while signed into other profiles on the same console that originally downloaded the content.” Bowling explained, “this is unintentional and we will work to get an update out.” Another Infinity Ward developer noted that yesterday’s patch “was a targeted fix.” The ninth patch was “pushed through Microsoft a.s.a.p.”

Thanks to MP1st readers on Twitter for all the help.

New MW3 Community Playlist “Infected” Coming Feb 5 on Xbox 360 and PS3

Robert Bowling has announced on the official forums that Modern Warfare 3 will receive its second community playlist, Infected, this weekend on February, 5th.

After the introduction of Drop Zone to positive feedback, Infinity Ward wanted to keep rotating playlists in Modern Warfare 3. Infected is one of the fan favorite private gamemodes. The new playlist will be added on Xbox 360 and PS3 this Sunday. However, PC players have to a bit longer; no date was given on when it will be added.

Game Structure

10 seconds into the match, the game will pick you as “the infected” or one of the survivors. Bowling explained, “the game ends when either all players have been turned into infected or the game timer ends. A Survivor’s goal is to stay alive until the game ends, however, if you’re turned Infected, your goal is to turn all other survivors into infected by killing them.” Each side will be assigned to specific loadouts, but different variations of the gamemode will rotate. In terms of points, Bowling stated “you will receive 100 points per kill (whether you’re a survivor or infected). Survivors receive an additional 100 points each time an infected kills another survivor.”

SSX: Online Features Trailer Part 2 – Global Events and Geo Tags

Creative Director, Todd Batty, walks us through two new online features in SSX, Global Events and Geo Tags in part two of the developer gameplay commentary series, check out part 1 here, in case you missed it.  Global Events replace lobby based matchmaking by allowing players to take part in a “constant ongoing live tournament at every single drop point in the SSX universe.” Some events require in-game currency in order to join. The in-game currency can only be used if players buy the game new or purchase the $10 online pass, read the official statement regarding SSX’s online pass below.

[youtube id=”v3EyQFnCDDc” width=”600″ height=”350″]

Without an online pass, you can still play multiplayer without an online pass, but you won’t be able to access all events. EA sent the following statement to Game Informer regarding the issue:

“In SSX, players without an Online Pass are able to compete and play in both of SSX’s online game modes, Explore and Global Events with no restrictions. In Global Events, the top finishers from each event are awarded with in-game credits. These in-game credits earned during play will not be awarded to the player if they do not have an Online Pass; these credits will be stored so that at any time, if a player redeems an Online Pass code, all the credits that they had previously earned in Global Events will be immediately awarded to them.

Economy balance makes it possible to unlock all available content and allows you to participate in all event drops across both Explore and Global Events, with credits earned solely in Explore.”

Are you looking forward to SSX?

BioWare Talks Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer And The Final Weeks of Production

BioWare is in the final weeks of production of the epic conclusion to the Mass Effect trilogy. This time, fans will be able to enjoy Mass Effect 3 in more ways than one with the inclusion of Galaxy at War, ME3’s exciting 4-player co-op mode. If you’ve missed MP1st’s break down of the latest multiplayer gameplay trailer, make sure to check it out right here.

Recently, BioWare’s Executive Producer, Michael Gamble, sat down with OXM to walk fans through the last few weeks of production and detailed what went into designing Mass Effect 3’s multiplayer co-op.

“For developing the multiplayer we’ve kept it within BioWare because we’re very precious with the Mass Effect brand,” stated Gamble. However, with a large number of experienced multiplayer developers under the umbrella of EA, BioWare was able receive a helping hand every now and then. “There’s a lot of core multiplayer people who’ve been able to provide us with context for how to solve certain problems, around technical systems and things like that. There’s a lot of great groups who’ve enabled us to take our vision and turn it into something executable.” To what extent other developers have had a hand in assisting is still unknown. But we do know that Digital Illusions CE, developers of Battlefield 3, were able to give some tips to the team behing ME3’s audio/sound design – something DICE is known for excelling in.

Gamble went on to detail the studios that worked on ME3’s mutliplayer co-op. “…actual development has been done between the Edmonton and Montreal studios in BioWare. And we’ve been working on the single player as well.” He added, “It’s not like we did the single player portion, and then we used another studio to do the multiplayer portion. We’ve all been doing it at the exact same time.” The great thing about doing things in this fashion is that it should prove the single-player and multiplayer to seamlessly meld together, giving them both the same feeling in terms of combat and third-person mechanics. “That’s the only way we could have done it, to make them work together.” It has also been stated many times by BioWare that the multiplayer can have a direct effect on the single-player if the player so chooses.

Mass Effect fans can look forward to the upcoming demo, including a taste of the multiplayer co-op, on February 14th, and the release of Mass Effect 3 on March 6th.

Make sure to read up on why BioWare decided to include multiplayer in Mass Effect 3.

Collin Chou might be the only martial artist to go toe-to-toe with the supremely talented Donnie Yen for almost 8 straight minutes and make it look feasible. The change-up of styles and techniques should get any fighting game fan ready to drop a Tombstone Piledriver on an unwitting Zangief.

Jackie Chan vs Benny Urquidez (Wheels on Meals)

My favorite Jackie Chan bout, and the one that will most likely get you amped to dominate in Street Fighter X Tekken, is this melee from 1984’s Wheels on Meals. Benny “The Jet” gives Chan quite a run for his money, and I believe this fight could be reenacted blow-by-blow using Ryu and King (well, maybe not exactly…).

Thai Stunt Men vs a Car (Bangkok: Knockout)

BKO is the latest in a long line of successful Thai stunt/martial arts movies that routinely feature stuntmen hospitalized and brutalized in order to capture the ultimate stunts. In BKO, the stunt team outdid themselves by just driving a car into a crowd of fighters, and then circling around for a second pass. Now, guys, I’m not going to try to crap out a reason as to how this specific scene will get you prepped for Street Fighter X Tekken, but I do believe that mindset is key in fighting games, and if you can keep the image of a man getting hit by a car in your brain and surviving, then beating Roger Jr. shouldn’t be a monumental task.

Jet Li vs The Japanese School (Fist of Legend)

Fist of Legend is the greatest martial arts movie of the 90’s, and possibly of all time (bash me in the comments; it’s okay). In the beginning of the film Li takes on a Japanese school and prevails, embarrassing the students and the headmaster. In Street Fighter X Tekken, the chips will be down, and you’ll be in a tight spot. Your enemies will be breaking your grapples with those cheap gems, and using the jankiest maneuvers in order to take you down. Just remember: you are the master, and your opponent is but a student. From the depths of your soul, you will find the courage to destroy your enemy. And his classmates, if that’s needed.

Captain Kirk vs Gorn (Star Trek)

This fight scene is neither brutal nor intense, but it will get you mentally prepared for Street Fighter X Tekken. Sometimes, a match just plays out like a drunken slap-fight between 2 bears. There is a deliberate ebb and flow to online fighters, and if someone’s not ebbing, or the fight isn’t flowing, then a round of Street Fighter X Tekken might turn out something like this:

How did I do? Are you prepped? Amped? Let me know in the comments what other epic fight scenes I should have included.
