Marvel’s Avengers Next Roadmap Reveal Planned in “Early 2022,” New Update Hitting This Coming Week

With Crystal Dynamics delivering the first-ever raid to Marvel’s Avengers recently, players might be wondering whether this was it for the game and for future content. Thankfully, we can confirm it’s not, as Crystal Dynamics confirmed that we’ll see the Marvel’s Avengers next roadmap in “early 2022.”

No specific date or month was given, though I suspect “early 2022” means either or January or February. In addition to that, players can expect a new patch to hit this coming week, and this will tackle issues brought about by the Holiday Content patch. Here’s the official word from the studio regarding the roadmap, and the upcoming patch:

  • After a lot of hard work to give you our first Raid, Discordant Sound, and Spider-Man for PlayStation players, the Crystal Dynamics team is preparing for the holiday break! We will still be tackling bugs and issues while we also prepare for next year for the remainder of the month. Keep an eye out in early 2022 for the next roadmap!

  • There was an issue in our Holiday Content patch 2.2.0 (which launched on November 30th) that affected some players who had massive amounts of stored Fragments and Units. We immediately fixed the issue and it stopped occurring soon after our initial discovery. However a number of players lost many hard-earned resources. We plan to reimburse those players as soon as our next patch, slated for release next week. We’ll have more information about our plan and what you can expect soon.

Also planned to roll out before the year is over, Marvel’s Avengers players will get to relive some of the earlier in-game events rolled out!

The Red Room Takeover has returned! From 12/9 – 12/23, get in there and dance around the techno lava once more to earn two team Nameplates and Surging Gear.

  • Hawkeye? Hawkeye. From 12/2 to 12/16, complete the following to earn a special Hawkeye Nameplate!
  • Complete Taking AIM (Kate Bishop Campaign)
  • Complete Future Imperfect (Hawkeye Campaign)
  • Level Kate Bishop to Level 50
  • Level Hawkeye to Level 50
  • Complete one Warzone with Kate and Hawkeye in the Strike Team
  • Pet Lucky on the Hellicarrier

Once we know more about the next patch, we’ll let our readers know. Hopefully it’s soon and it includes the fix for the campaign crashing bug that’s been spotted recently.

Halo Infinite Upcoming Playlist Update for Dec. 14 Revealed

For those playing Halo Infinite’s multiplayer, 343 Industries has relayed the Halo Infinite upcoming playlist update hitting the game this December 14! Four new playlists are on the way which include: Fiesta, Slayer, FFA (free-for-all(, and Tactical Slayer (SWAT). All four will be added a “services update” this Tuesday, December 14.

Here’s more info regarding this coming week’s update which includes tweaks to challenges and more.

Next week’s update will also include adjustments to challenges including removing some particularly frustrating mode-specific ones, reducing some requirements for others, making the weekly ultimate challenge less intensive (getting there is tough enough), and adding brand new challenges specific to the new playlists. Personally I’m eager to check out a new challenge category that’s based on accumulating player score (a small initial step towards ‘performance based XP’). We’ll have some more details to share on Halo Waypoint next week.

Lastly, on a semi-related note – please know that the team is aware of and actively investigating reports of intermittent hiccups affecting some players in BTB over the last few days. Additionally, the team is continuing to review Ranked matchmaking and player feedback around potential anomalies.

Our review of Halo Infinite as a whole should be hitting the site soon, so keep an eye out for it.

Spider-Man: No Way Home Features a Move Copied Straight From Spider-Man PlayStaton Games

In just a few short days, Sony and Marvel will be launching what’s possibly the biggest Spider-Man movie of all-time in Spider-Man: No Way Home. While the film might not be connected to Sony’s excellent Marvel’s Spider-Man game franchise, that doesn’t mean that Insomniac’s property hasn’t bled into the film universe in some way.

In an interview, Spider-Man himself, Tom Holland, mentioned that Sony sent over a PS5 to the cast, and confirmed that the movie has a move that was directly ripped from the Sony PlayStation series of games!

You can watch the entire interview that touches on more topics in the video below:

I’m curious to see which move Holland refers to, and whether game fans will recognize it. Which move do you think Holland & Co. copied from the games? Let us know your thoughts below. Speaking of Marvel’s Spider-Man and No Way Home, Insomniac Games just recently released a new game update for Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered which added the No Way Home suits for free!

Remedy: Alan Wake 2 M Rating “Liberating,” Won’t Compromise on the Horror

In case you missed the news, Alan Wake 2 has officially been announced by Remedy during this year’s The Game Awards show. While the announcement was certainly a massive surprise, the studio also revealed that the sequel would be aiming for an M (for Mature) rating, and that they have no plans to compromise any of the horror aspects from the original with it.

In a interview with IGN, Remedy’s Creative Director Sam Lake had this to say:

“For anything to do with Alan Wake the story is very central — this horror story,” Lake says. “Let’s do Remedy’s take on a survival horror game and focus on story… the horror story is this psychological, layered, deep mystery to dive into. And yes, it’s going to be scary. But it just works really really well with the gameplay.”

He goes on to state that the M rating is “liberating” for the team and that this will allow them no compromises or censorship. However, they note that content isn’t trying to be “shocking” for its own good, and that the story will remain true to the “psychologically-tinged vision” of the original.

Alan Wake 2 is currently targeting a 2023 release, exclusively for next-gen platforms (PS5, Xbox Series) and PC.

Saber Interactive New Games: Redout 2, Circus Electrique, Dakar Deset Rally Announced

Just a few days ago, Saber Interactive announced that the studio would have multiple new games revealed at The Game Awards, and the Twitch Winter Gathering. It looks like the studio has kept its promise, as the Saber Interactive new games announced now includes Redout 2, Circus Electrique, and Dakar Desert Rally!

Check out the trailer for each new game unveiled this weekend:

Outside of these three, there’s Warhammer 40: Space Marine 2 announced in development as well. The studio’s earlier claim that they are working on multiplayer-focused titles that are both big and small in development scope is indeed legit. Saber Interactive is certainly keeping busy, as aside from the titles mentioned now, the dev team also has A Quiet Place the video game adaptation in development, and a new game based on the Evil Dead franchise.

Speaking of Saber Interactive, go read our latest interview with the studio where we talk about World War Z, AAA development and more.

Ready or Not Steam Early Access Launching This Month

In a surprise announcement, VOID Interactive has revealed that their upcoming tactical shooter, Ready Or Not, is heading to Steam Early Access sometimes this month.

While the VOID Interactive had initially planned to launch Ready Or Not onto Steam Early Access at some point in the future when they had felt that they had a “solid product,” the studio, unfortunately had to make the decision to release earlier as they can no longer create new Steam keys under the current model.

As you may be aware, we have been working alongside Steam to secure more game keys for the Supporter Edition of Ready or Not, but we hit a roadblock. While unfortunate, we hope that this will result in welcome news for many of you. We can no longer generate new Steam Keys unless we also go live on Steam, and since we absolutely depend on pre-sale income to continue developing Ready or Not, we have decided to go live on Steam Early Access by the end of 2021.

Understandable as the team notes that they aren’t backed by a multi-million dollar budget, therefor the only source of income being in the pre-sales, which they can no longer provide.

Simply put, while Steam is an excellent platform for indie developers, it is also a very crowded marketplace, with tens of thousands of titles all competing for limited attention. To really stand out on Steam, we believe that we have a responsibility to deliver a solid product that speaks for itself. We did not want to risk launching a game that we felt wasn’t up to snuff for our audience. However, under present circumstances, we feel that the best course of action is to transition to Beta (albeit early stage), so that we are able to resume providing Supporter Packages to our backers and secure the resources necessary to continue the game’s development. This will also allow Steam’s large audience to have the opportunity to experience Ready or Not sooner than they would have otherwise.

Many AAA Studios have incredibly deep pockets and spend tens of millions developing their games, a luxury that VOID Interactive does not have. We live and die by the support of our community, and we are extremely grateful for those of you that have followed and continue to follow us on this journey.

With it being the last month of 2021, we should be getting more specifics on the early access release real soon. We’ll be sure to keep you posted!

GTFO Version 1.0 Hands-On Impressions – What’s New in the Release Build

If E3 this year was any indication of the near future of video games: Co-op multiplayer is going to be a bit of a theme for a while. The stories announcement that GTFO is officially 1.0 at The Game Awards last night is a major continuation of that trend. The game has had a successful run in early access for the past two years with the original announcement also being at The Game Awards in 2019. With the previous five years before that of secret development that makes this launch 7 years in the making.

This past month the team at 10 Chambers (a studio consisting of developers who previously created Payday 1 and 2) had us over to the Unity offices to take a look at the updates they have been working on for GTFO version 1.0. We got to go hands-on with a couple of missions and talk with the development team about their thoughts on going gold.  Here we’re going to go into what we saw at the event and what I experienced playing the launch version of GTFO.

An Introduction

A brief bit of explanation for those of you that have not been following the lead up to the game’s launch: GTFO is a first-person co-op horror stealth shooter (try saying that ten times fast) that has been on Steam in early access since December of 2019. The narrative has been kept purposefully mysterious. What has been revealed in pieces here and there, is that you are a group of prisoners being held captive by a mysterious shadow organization that had been running a complex mining and research operation near a mysterious alien artifact of some kind that was discovered deep underground. At some point things went pear-shaped and the operation was evacuated during some kind of violent panic.

Now the cavernous underground facility known as The Complex is abandoned except for sleeping monsters that attack in a vicious rage whenever they detect movement or sound. For reasons that have not yet been revealed, the four prisoners you play as are being held captive and awoken over and over again to fight their way through different sectors of the complex labyrinth so they can, well, GTFO. But the squad never truly escapes and instead wakes up some time later being sent down the mineshaft to start again. All while being led along and antagonized by The Warden, an entity whose exact nature we aren’t yet privy to.

10 Chambers told me that they are purposefully keeping narrative revelations to a minimum, choosing instead to slowly dole out bits and pieces to try and let players work together to parse it together. So far, that has resulted in a pretty active YouTube community of code crackers. But I found that the game plays plenty well without a large amount of story explanation. I will say, as does a notice from the developers on Steam, this game is very hard. It really does feel like the same team that made Payday 2 branched off and decided to really try for a game that’s difficult and dark. You need to work together and move slowly and carefully to survive. There’s purposefully not enough ammo or health, and you don’t get more from combat. This means you’re using stealth and your melee weapons to kill sleeping monsters so you can save your resources, which you then just burn through when there is an inevitable alarm that goes off after opening a marked door. Between searching for scarce gear and using computer terminals to find items you need to open the next door, the levels can be long, and they are also procedurally generated so it’s something new each time. Think of it as a kind of very difficult horror themed take on the same type of game as Deep Rock Galactic.

More Options and More Challenges

Everything that is being added to the final game can be broken down into whole new gameplay options and quality of experience enhancements. I’ll talk about the options first. The first thing a player will interact with compared to the previous version is the enhanced “Persistent Clothing.” Previously your player characters’ look was very basic. Granted the helmet designs are especially eye-catching and brutal as you can see in the game’s advertising material. But now you can unlock and edit your full character’s look right alongside your loadout. The game doesn’t have a traditional class system, but you can build your loadout to fulfill specific jobs for your team’s playthrough. It should be interesting to see people adjust their clothing to match their role in the squad as well. I came to like the bulky hooded aesthetic. But we only had access to a handful of options in our demo. I liked the feature and I think people are going to like the options for designing unique characters. Though I do think it takes away from the horror of the game a little to have cool customized armor. The options are all still in that dark brutal aesthetic so I think it is a good compromise.

Bring the Hammer Down, or Alternatively, Bring the Spear, Knife or Club Down

Considering the scarcity of ammo in GTFO, the melee combat is especially important. Carefully taking out the enemies without waking them is a major concern, as is killing solitary enemies without wasting ammo. To this effect, all the players have thus far been given hammers to use as melee weapons. Starting with 1.0, that repertoire will be expanded to include a Spear, Knife, and a Club. They all do the same basic thing but with slight differences. The Spear is slow but has a long range of attack and does high damage. The knife is quick and low damage but has the added benefit that you can sprint around while charging up your attacks. They all are available without any additional purchase and add another layer of strategy to your character load out. I personally found that I liked the spear but then again I always love a spear in games. The feel of the different weapons is very much what you would expect from them and they don’t operate in a way that’s overly foreign from other games, even if they have been made particular for this experience.

Flying Demons in the Nth Demon-tion

Two other major gameplay features that are being introduced are Dimensions and flying enemies. Both of these are ways that the developers are planning on introducing variety into the procedurally generated worlds. Let’s talk about flying enemies first, as they are going to be easier to explain based on what I saw. So far all the enemies have been ground -based. There has been some verticality but it has been derived from player movement with the platforms and ladders instead of the enemies themselves. It is something to see how adding creatures flying around can change the dynamic of a fight and change the strategies you have to employ. Unfortunately due to how the schedule of the day developed, I wasn’t able to see much of the flying creatures but what I did see showed them making it more important to adjust for height and not just direction before setting off a door alarm. Which was definitely the intent the developers were going for.

Dimensions on the other hand, I think has potential to completely blow this game open in popularity. It has the chance of being a major selling point for the game if it unfolds the way it looks like it will. So as I have said before, The Complex is being run by this shadowy figure called The Warden. The Warden seems to be the one who puts together these increasingly dangerous challenges for you, again the narrative is being left vague for now. Anyway, it appears that The Warden has found another way to torture his captives. By activating these high tech dimensional shifters in the level suddenly the four of you all share a vivid hallucination (hologram? are actually transported to a different dimension?). Suddenly rather than running and sneaking through a mining research facility you are trying to escape a jungle or survive a sandstorm. We only got a short look at what form these might take but it was easily the thing that most excited me of what all they showed.

A Nip Here and a Tuck There Make the game Leaner, Cleaner, and Tight.

On top of these four major changes, there are a handful of smaller ones that are being introduced that will affect the game in smaller ways, but I think still significant ways. All of them help with the accessibility of this being a co-op game where you really need other players to get the full experience.

The first is that they are introducing AI bots to fill in the empty slots on a team. Currently any empty spots would stay empty if you couldn’t find someone else. But with 1.0 you have the option to fill out your team with computer players. This means that people flying solo have the option to just play with bots instead of trying to matchmake. I didn’t have a chance to play with the bots but I was told that they have put a lot of time into them and are excited to roll them out. Players are getting to experience them right now so I’m sure we’re going to start hearing opinions on how well they function. There have also been general improvements to how matchmaking works to make it easier to fill out a team with humans if that’s your preference (as I think it should be in this game).

Easing the Burden of Communication

Along with that, there are two communication enhancements that intends to ease the burden of trying to communicate with randoms online. One is that there are now options for in-game squawks you can select for your team. Meaning that if you’re playing online and somebody who doesn’t have a microphone joins your game you can still communicate with them via a chat wheel that has your character yell out various prompts to communicate what you’re trying to say. The other feature is actually a feature within a feature in this communication wheel. The game will translate these squawks to your teammates’ native languages. So, I, as an English speaker, could communicate to Spanish and French speaking teammates at the same time. It’s something that smooths barriers and opens up multiplayer so you don’t have to worry about regionality as much, which for this game is a very good thing and assuming it works could be something the industry as a whole could learn from.

A Spoonful of Sugar Helps the Medicine Go Down

Probably the most significant of these smaller features is the inclusion of checkpoint doors. Now, they are optional and if you want to keep the game as hardcore as possible you can leave them off. Normally when the whole team dies you have to start the whole mission over. With checkpoint doors activated however, the game will save a checkpoint as you progress past certain doors and will take the squad back there upon death instead of having to restart the whole mission. It’s a small way for the team to try and make the game just a smidge more accessible without lowering the whole difficulty for players that love that challenge. In my time with the game I grew to feel that I don’t know how long I could play in one sitting if I had to restart every time we died. Frankly we died a lot. So I’m excited for the choice.

One Last Thing Before I GTFO Myself

In speaking with the team at 10 Chambers. The topic of continuing the Rundown System naturally came up. This has been their name for large content updates. They told me that they would continue to update the game and that they are committed to the future of GTFO. This isn’t likely to surprise fans of their work since at the previous studio; Payday 2 had a huge amount of content packs released after its initial launch.

The 1.0 edition of GTFO is available now on Steam, and we have more coverage of the game coming up in our review, and a sit down interview where we ask some pertinent questions players might be wondering about since the game was announced.

Sniper Elite 5 Set for 2022 Release, Check Out the Trailer & Game Features

Rebellion has announced today that Sniper Elite 5 is set for release sometime in 2022, and that it’ll be available on Xbox Game Pass on day one alongside its retail release on the Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5 and PC.

Check out the reveal trailer below, which includes in-game engine footage! We also have the game’s features via the press release.

As part of a covert US Rangers operation to weaken the Atlantikwall fortifications along the coast of Brittany, Karl makes contact with the French Resistance. Soon they uncover a secret Nazi project that threatens to end the war before the Allies can even invade Europe: Operation Kraken. It’s Karl’s mission to take out the high ranking Nazi officers and end Operation Kraken once and for all.
Based upon real-world locations from France in 1944, the new game maps are the largest and most immersive in the franchise’s history. The game’s new traversal system offers players an even greater sandbox of options when it comes to taking out their targets. Players can even invite a friend to help them on their mission with enhanced co-operative gameplay options.
Sniper Elite 5 Game Features:
Expansive Campaign – Real-world locations have been captured using photogrammetry to recreate a living, immersive environment, and multiple infiltration and extraction points along with kill list targets provide a whole new perspective on each mission. Take on the Nazi plot solo or work with a partner, with improved co-op mechanics allowing you to share ammo and items, give orders and heal each other.
Advanced gunplay physics and traversal – Use ziplines, slide down slopes and shimmy along ledges to reach the perfect vantage point, or to sneak past a sharp-eyed lookout. Factor in rifle stock and barrel options along with gravity, wind and heart rate while you line up your sights on the target.
High caliber customization – Use workbenches to customize and upgrade virtually every aspect of your weapon. Change scopes, stocks, barrels, magazines and more. Rifles, secondary weapons and pistols all have a huge variety of options. On top of that, you can select the ammo to suit your target, from armor-piercing right down to non-lethal.
Invasion mode drop-in PVP – You can invade another player’s Campaign as an Axis sniper and engage in a deadly game of cat and mouse, providing a new dimension to the challenge as you stalk your prey. Alternatively, as Karl, you can call for assistance and have a second sniper drop in to help you out of a tricky situation.
Tense adversarial multiplayer – Customize your character and loadout and earn XP, medals and ribbons as you take on intensely competitive 16-player battles that will really test your sharpshooting skills. If co-op’s more your style, you can team up with up to three other players against waves of enemies in Survival mode.
Enhanced kill cam – More realistic and grisly than ever, the trademark X-ray kill cam returns, showing you the true destructive power of each shot. Bones deflect bullets unpredictably, ripping a new path through enemy bodies. SMGs and pistols can also trigger kill cams, including multiple shots in dramatic slow motion.
Once we know the release window/release date for Sniper Elite 5, we’ll let our readers know.

Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered Update 1.006 Adds New Suits This Dec. 10

As promised by Insomniac Games, the Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered update 1.006 patch has shot out this December 10, and this adds new content to the game in the form of Spider-Man: No Way Home suits! Read on for the patch notes and details for today’s title update.

Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered Update 1.006 Patch Notes:

Outside of the suits, there doesn’t seem to be anything else included. However, we’ve reached out to Insomniac Games about it, and if we get a reply, we’ll be sure to update the post.

If you haven’t played Marvel’s Spider-Man yet, our review of the game (for PS4) can be seen here, where yours truly state, “It’s surprising that Insomniac’s first foray into the superhero video game scene is this ambitious, and what’s even more surprising is, the studio managed to shatter all expectations. Make no mistake, this Spider-Man game is one mean action game even without the license, though it uses it to great effect, which puts the game from “good” to “excellent” all in one go. Simply put, Marvel’s Spider-Man is one neighborhood you’ll want to swing by, and be a part of.”

If you spot any gameplay-related or technical fixes in this patch, let us know down in the comments below.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Future Content to Be Revealed on December 13

While Ubisoft has already announced that Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will be getting a new patch this coming week, it won’t be for new content, but rather, for data restructuring that will help in adding Assassin’s Creed Valhalla future content.

For those looking to that, Ubisoft has you covered this coming week, as a live stream will take place on Monday, December 13 at 9AM PDT/12NN EDT/1AM HKT/6PM CET.

Will we see a new roadmap? Let’s hope so. Chances are, we’ll see a mix of free and premium (read: paid) content. We here at MP1st will cover the event and the announcements that will come from it.

If you haven’t played the game yet, it’s a return to form for the series, with our review stating, “There is a lot to love about Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, and personally it’s amongst my favorite in the series now. Enjoyable gameplay that lightens up on the RPG elements for the better, encased in a world with sights that are to be behold, Valhalla may have a slow start to it’s story, but the pay-off is well worth it. You just have to cope through the bugs and potential crashes, though we’re sure the developers are already hard at work with fixing these issues.”
