If you’re wondering just what exactly is this ‘Trust system,’ Square Enix elaborated on this during the livestream:

Beginning in the upcoming Patch 6.1, it was revealed the in-game Trust System, which currently allows players to tackle select main scenario dungeons with a party of NPC comrades, will be further expanded. This feature allows players to enjoy the story at their own pace, without needing to seek out a party of fellow players. Patch 6.1, which is currently set for release in April, will see the Trust System implemented for all the main scenario dungeons of A Realm Reborn™, with more to be added at a later date.

Additionally, to support new players and those seeking a single-player experience further, several low-level main scenario duties will be adjusted to support an accessible, solo-play experience.

Finally, Yoshida also confirmed work is underway to begin the game’s first graphical update. This willl give the long-running title its first major graphics underhaul, and players can expect it to come with the launch of the next expansion pack.

Street Fighter 6 Officially Announced by Capcom

Capcom’s mystery countdown has been revealed, and the mystery announcement is none other than Street Fighter 6, which really shouldn’t come as a suprise. Capcom released a small teaser trailer for Street Fighter 6 giving us a small glimpse of what’s to come.

The trailer confirms that Ryu will be on the roster (obviously), as well as Luke, which is the last character added to Street Fighter V. The game is still currently in early development.

From the look of the trailer, it appears as if Capcom is looking for a more realistic approach to the graphics. Capcom could be using the famous RE Engine that powers most of the company’s best AAA video games. Hopefully, more footage of the game is revealed very soon.

Here’s the offiical announcement via the press release:

Street Fighter 6, the next evolution of the renowned Street Fighter series which has sold more than 47 million units since it charged onto the scene 35 years ago, is now officially announced. The teaser trailer showcased a glimpse of what’s to come with the future of Street Fighter, as series mainstay Ryu locks horns with new challenger Luke. The 45th and final character in the Street Fighter V roster was teased to have a key role in the next Street Fighter project, which has now been confirmed. More details will be shared this summer. Stay tuned to the official Street Fighter 6 website for all the latest info.

Also of note, according to Capcom the reveal trailer is the same quality drawn by the actual game engine, so that’s a nice touch.

All we know right now is that more info about the game will be revealed in Summer 2022. Platforms are not announced yet, but we’re expecting it to appear on consoles and on PC.

Dying Light 2 New Game+ Requests Acknowledged by Techland, Seeks Feedback for Accessibility Options

Have you already finished Dying Light 2? While the game is packed with content, that hasn’t stopped gamers from finishing it (relatively) quickly. However, it seems that even after the game’s main campaign is over, some players want to play it again, and have been requesting a Dying Light 2 New Game+ mode.

Over on Twitter, Techland Lead Designer Tymon Smektala has acknowledged the requests for a New Game+ mode for Dying Light 2, and while he can’t confirm any dates, or what’ll be in it, he hopes that it will happen “soon.

In another Twitter convo, Smektala asked the player base for accessibility options, and what the primary concerns are.

Finally, a fan asked Smektala whether there would be a gore fix/overhaul, to which he confirmed “yep.”

Given how Techland already promised five years of post-launch support, I’d say a New Game+ mode makes a ton of sense. Let’s hope that this is rolled out soon, but not before the game’s main isues are resolved first. The zombie action game received a patch last week to fix the nagging death loop bug on PC, and we’re expecting it to be released on consoles this coming week once it passes certification.

In case you haven’t picked up Dying Light 2 yet, you really ought to, and our review should help you decide since we awarded it with a high 8.5/10 score.

Rainbow Six Siege 2022 Roadmap Revealed, Crossplay & Cross-Progression Coming End of Year

With Ubisoft introducing Rainbow Six Siege players to the Year 7 Season 1 (Y7S1) content drop titled “Demon Veil,” the studio isn’t stopping just there. In a preview event where MP1st was invited, the Rainbow Six Siege 2022 roadmap was revealed, too! Siege players have a lot to look forward to this year, and it’s not just new Operators, but new features, too!

Rainbow Six Siege 2022 Roadmap

Alongside the image above, the studio has also revealed

PLAYER BEHAVIOR & REPUTATION SYSTEM

Throughout Year 7, the development team will take steps towards addressing specific player behavior to further anti-cheat efforts introduced in Year 6 like the Reputation System. Season 1 introduces improvements towards detecting griefing and player disconnects. Season 2 tackles players who misuse friendly fire through sanctions restricting reverse friendly fire as well as improving match cancellations.

In Season 3, players can access reporting options in Match Replay to address harassment in voice and video chat. Season 3 also introduces Reputation Scores for players, which will launch in Season 4 and start deploying rewards and sanctions to block repeat offenders. In Year 7, the development team strives to meet their continued goal of creating a secure and fair environment.

YEAR 7 PASS

From tomorrow until March 21, players can purchase the limited-time Year Pass for $30 or the Premium Year Pass for $60. The Year Pass unlocks the four seasonal Battle Passes – which includes a 14-day early access to new Operators when they launch – while the Premium Year Pass unlocks four Battle Passes, the early access to new Operators, exclusive Exotic weapon skins, VIP credits, and more. Players who purchase the Premium Year Pass will also unlock 20 extra Tiers out of 100, receiving rewards quicker.

CONSOLE GAMEPLAY

Console players will receive several dedicated updates this year including aim control personalization, new controller input presets, and field of view settings.

ONBOARDING FEATURES

To better introduce new players to Rainbow Six Siege, Year 7 adds a Shooting Range: playable spaces to practice, train, and experiment without the pressure of a match. Another onboarding tool, Operator Tips, will let players get to know each Operator, their gadgets, and any tips that might be helpful for Attacker or Defender strategies.

BALANCING AND PLAYLIST UPDATES
The development team will continue reworking several Operators this year including Zero, Bandit, Dokkaebi, and Thatcher. Year 7 will add Team Deathmatch and Arcade permanently to the playlist, as well as revamping the Ranked experience to reflect a player’s progression better.

Alongside the details shared via the press release, Ubisoft has confirmed that crossplay and cross-progression is being added “near the end of 2022.”

Once we know the exact release date of Y7S1, and the other features deployment schedule, we’ll let our readers know.

Update: Ubisoft has reached out to let us know the Year 7 Pass is $30 and not $40 as originally mentioned in the press release. Article has been updated accordingly.

Destiny 2 Upcoming Update 4.0.0.1 List of Changes Previewed by Bungie

In just a few days, the big The Witch Queen expansion is set to drop for Destiny 2. While the new content is reserved for paying customers, there are still changes coming for vanilla Destiny 2 gamers. While the full patch notes haven’t been released just yet, Bungie has revealed the Destiny 2 upcoming update 4.0.0.1 list of changes for Ritual rewards, Eververse and more! Ready? Dive in!

UPDATE (2/22/2022): Here’s the complete and official patch notes for update 4.0.0.1!

Destiny 2 Upcoming Update 4.0.0.1 Patch Preview:

Here’s a quick roundup of patch notes for next Tuesday. Think of this as a kitchen sink of patch notes. A little bit of everything.
Ritual Rewards
  • Starting with The Witch Queen, ritual playlist rewards will be updated to grant ritual specific gear (weapons, mods, armor) and no longer be granting rewards from the general world pool.
  • Crucible will grant Crucible gear, Vanguard will grant Vanguard gear, and Gambit will grant Gambit gear.
  • Engram focusing is currently only available on Saint-14 and the Drifter for their ritual specific engrams.
  • World engrams will continue to be granted at major ranks on ritual vendors, just for a little variety.
  • Gambit, Crucible, and Vanguard rituals are receiving updated armor rewards for a new expansion release.
  • These share the same base appearance but have slight differences in decals and coloring to represent each ritual.
Returning Crucible Maps
  • Eternity and Vostok return to the Crucible on February 22, 2022.
Eververse
  • No changes.
      • Wait, what? Seriously?
          • Yeah, there are no systematic changes to the Eververse.
          • There will be new cosmetic items available for Silver and Bright Dust, but no systematic changes to the experience.
      • But what about Bright Dust? Any changes to how much players will be earning?
          • There are no changes to Bright Dust acquisition or totals compared to that of Season 15.
          • Players will continue to earn Bright Dust from Seasonal Challenges, repeatable bounties on specific vendors, and through the Season Pass.
          • Please note: This week brings the final drop of 700 Bright Dust in celebration of our 30th Anniversary. Make sure to redeem this offer in the Eververse storefront before it’s gone!
Season Pass Changes
  • High-stat Seasonal armor has been reintroduced.
      • Individual pieces are awarded between ranks 57 and 87.
  • Legendary Engrams have been replaced with focused Umbral Engrams.
      • Five in total. Each focused to a different armor piece (arms, legs, chest, class, and head).
      • All Umbral Engrams are tier 2.
  • The Season Pass emblem has been removed, but we have introduced a Season Pass Sparrow.
  • The Season Pass scrounger bonuses (bonuses which increased Seasonal weapon/armor drop chances in ritual activities) have been overhauled.
      • The weapon scrounger bonuses are no longer separated by weapon type or ritual activity. They now apply to both Season Pass Legendary weapons and all activities at once.
          • Two weapon scrounger bonuses instead of six.
          • The first bonus grants the player a small chance to receive the weapons from ritual activities. The second bonus gives an improved chance.
          • Total drop chance is unchanged from previous Seasons.
      • The armor scrounger bonuses are no longer separated by ritual activity. It now applies to all activities at once.
          • One armor scrounger bonus instead of three.
          • Like the weapon, the total drop chance for each armor piece is unchanged.
  • Aside from the emblem, no items have been removed from the Season Pass, only added.
      • A number of rewards such as Glimmer and Legendary Shards have been consolidated to make room for high-stat armor.
      • A small amount of Upgrade Modules have been added.
  • The order some rewards are acquired has been tuned to accommodate the above changes.
Shattered Throne: “Thrallway”
  • Fixed an issue where Shadow Thrall in The Shattered Throne were unintentionally granting investment rewards, such as Glimmer, engrams, and XP.
      • As players begin to craft weapons and level up their Season Pass on February 22, we want to ensure gameplay rewards are earned by playing and completing activities, bounties, or just hanging out with friends in patrols while defeating minions of the Darkness.
Boss Stomps
  • Adjusted the physics knockback for boss stomps.
  • This will should result in fewer deaths from being knocked into objects.
The full patch notes will be available this coming Tuesday, February 22.

Horizon Forbidden West: A Look at How the Decima Engine Has Evolved Graphically

In my 30+ hours of game time with Horizon Forbidden West, I have come to one conclusion: this game is an absolute graphical showcase. I shouldn’t be surprised (but I am) at this, as Guerrilla Games wowed us with Horizon Zero Dawn back in 2017, showcasing their newly created Decima Engine. This very same engine then went on the create Kojima Production’s breathtaking experience, Death Stranding, and now, of course, Horizon Forbidden West. While you’ve certainly seen plenty of screenshots roaming around since the review embargo lifted, I wanted to do a bit of a deeper dive myself and look at the finer details — the details you don’t notice until someone has pointed them out to you, and once you’ve seen them, well, you know the phrase already.

Death Stranding – The Formation of Decima

The conception of Death Stranding was an interesting one to say the least, but the short of it is that Kojima, after his and Kojima Productions separation from Konami, were doing some shopping, visiting multiple studios to see how they developed games and such. This journey eventually lead him to Guerrilla Games, and after some time spent with co-founder Hermen Hulst, it was eventually decided by Herman and the team to give Kojima the source code to their proprietary engine that powered Horizon Zero Dawn.

In Hermen’s own words (via VG24/7)

“I was talking to Michiel v.d. Leeuw, our technical director, and said, ‘You know what, let’s just give Kojima Productions our source code on a stick and offer it to them,'” recounted Hulst.

“They just couldn’t believe that a studio like us would just hand that to them. They wondered why. The honest reason was just for them to make a game. The idea that we can enable a studio of that caliber to make a great game, and we can play a part of that,” he added.

This eventually lead to two studios sharing knowledge with one another, which then lead to the naming of this engine. That name, as we now know it, is Decima.

Fast forward to the release of Death Stranding. One of the most impressive games in terms of visual fidelity. It was, a massive leap graphically over Guerrilla Games’ Horizon Zero Dawn in not only its environments, but impressive character models. However, considering the dense world of Horizon Zero Dawn compared to Death Stranding, which is has less in population, that should come as no surprise.

Still, a visual bump is a visual bump, and Death Stranding certainly impresses in that sense in regards to everything. Down below you’ll find some side-by-side shots showcasing just that, along with our input.

Horizon Zero Dawn Versus Death Stranding – Character Models

Texture details across both titles are pretty similar when it comes to examining the character models. However, I’d give it to Death Stranding, as Horizon Zero Dawn doesn’t look quite as good in motion, a common complaint back then that the models had a bit of a “plastic” look. That was mostly true in the NPC, though sadly Death Stranding only really features human NPOC in the form of holograms, with the rest of the cast being “main” characters.

One big difference I’ll point out, however, is that Death Stranding models offered variations in skin pigmentation. Death Stranding would use different skin coloring/tones throughout a model, whereas Horizon Zero Dawn was more focused on certain sections, such as character’s cheeks which are common to have blush of reds.

Next we’ll compare Death Stranding models to Horizon Forbidden West

Death Stranding Versus Horizon Forbidden West – Character Models

Horizon Zero Dawn – Guerilla First Decima Game, and How Far It’s Come

Horizon Zero Dawn Versus Horizon Forbidden West – Character Models

Yeah, that’s a pretty big generational leap if you ask me. Looking at the Aloy’s face from each game, you can tell there is a lot more detail on the PS5 version of Forbidden West. Take these two super close up shots for example.

The amount of details on skin has been vastly increased, though as seen in the other images it’s not just skin either. Pieces of equipment has been retexturized, as well as inclusion of addition models. Take the closeup shot of the armor for example, specifically the piece of fabric.

Horizon Zero Dawn Forbidden West compairison 7

That no longer looks like a piece of block with a textures thrown over it as there are clearly separate strands. Even looking at the metal plating itself, it looks like a 2D texture is thrown on top of it in Horizon Zero Dawn; whereas in Forbidden West, it looks like there are indentations between the different sections. And yes, I am completely aware that this is a close-up shot, but these small improvements add to the overall character model, and there are plenty of them to notice.

What makes the Decima Engine so impressive however on next-gen are the models of random NPCs themselves. It’s common for games to have character models that are vastly better for the main cast versus the random NPCs you’ll encounter in the world. And while that does remain to be true in Forbidden West, we just can’t ignore how big of a leap they are over (even Aloy herself) from Zero Dawn.

Yep, we’ve come a long way when random NPCs are now being covered in this much detail.

Horizon Zero Dawn Versus Horizon Forbidden West – Environments

It’s not just the character models that have seen an increase in quality either, as the general environment has been vastly improved in some areas in Forbidden West. Snow texture for example no longer looks like a soft white sheet.

Snow deformation

Grass

Ridge-Wood branches

Now, this does go without saying that Horizon Zero Dawn does look incredible when you look at it from afar. Even some of the textures found on mountains, rocks, the ground, generally anything considered a large environment consists of texture just as high quality as that of Forbidden West. But in terms of scope, Forbidden West is a bigger game that is capable of outputting higher resolution and models at a far larger quantity than Zero Dawn. This results in the big changes shown above, and a higher detailed texture in that abundance is going to provide a far better looking game, both in stills and in motion.

I could go on for hours showing improvements, but I won’t. I just wanted to show you all in stills just how big of a leap, and how far the Decima engine has come. As technology continues to advance, we inch closer and closer to those movie quality assets. The Decima Engine impresses in all its offering, and one can only imagine how much more it’ll push once a full PS5 exclusive is built on it. What an exciting future!

After the release of the major patch, CD Projekt RED acknowledged this issue a couple of days ago. Here’s their official statement:

“Cannot start the application. The data is corrupted” error after updating

COD Warzone Ricochet Report Revealed; Cheating at ‘All-Time Low’ According to Devs

As part of their ongoing campaign to curb hacking, Activision has released the COD Warzone Ricochet report, revealing that the implementation of the anti-cheat system is responsible for cheating in-game hitting an all-time low. As detailed further in the post, it also seems that it has somewhat discouraged cheat developers from tampering with the game further. Check out the full rundown on the blog post below to see just how Activision managed to achieve their results with Ricochet.

Here’s a rundown on the COD Warzone Ricochet report as of February 18:

Data Collection & Mitigation

RICOCHET Anti-Cheat™ relies on data to identify cheating behavior and make our banwaves more impactful. As we collect data from machines determined to be cheating, our goal is to ensure they aren’t taking wins from our deserving community.

#TeamRICOCHET also uses several in-game mitigations to reduce the impact of cheating players, beyond banning accounts. One mitigation technique we’ve been testing is something we call Damage Shield. When the server detects a cheater is tampering with the game in real-time, it disables the cheater’s ability to inflict critical damage on other players. This mitigation leaves the cheater vulnerable to real players and allows #TeamRICOCHET to collect information about a cheater’s system. We track these encounters to ensure there is no possibility for the game to apply a Damage Shield randomly or by accident, no matter the skill level.  To be clear, we will never interfere in gunfights between law-abiding community members. Damage Shield is now out of testing and deployed across the globe.

This is only one of many mitigations we have in-game, with more live and in development. Since activating new mitigations in the last few weeks, we have seen a decline in cheat reporting, but we know the work is never done.

Unified Security & Enforcement Policy

We are proud to announce our security team has made changes to our security enforcement policy for modern PC and console titles within the Call of Duty universe. Previously, this adjustment was only applied to Call of Duty: Vanguard.

Going forward, extreme, or repeated violations of the security policy – such as in-game cheating – may result in a permanent suspension of all accounts. Additionally, any attempt to hide, disguise, or obfuscate your identity or the identity of your hardware devices may also result in a permanent suspension.

Permanent suspensions for security infractions apply to any infractions in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare®, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Call of Duty: Warzone, and Call of Duty: Vanguard, as well as future titles in the Call of Duty franchise.

There you have it. It would also seem that Activision will be rolling out permanent suspensions for accounts, regardless of what Call of Duty game it is, for repeated violations of cheating. We can only hope to see the cheating numbers go lower at this point; while it’s highly improbable to curb it entirely, Ricochet seems to be doing a good job at hindering cheaters in Warzone and other Call of Duty titles.

EA Denies Battlefield 2042 Launch Failure Was Because of Halo Infinite

In case you didn’t know, a report surfaced this week that EA held an internal “Town Hall” meeting to discuss the Battlefield 2042 launch failure when it comes to engaging fans, and to deliver a solid gaming experience. According to the report, EA Chief Studios Officer Laura Miele blamed the COVID-19 pandemic, and 343 Industries’ Halo Infinite as causes why the most recent Battlefield game failed to sizzle at both the retail charts, and its player base.

In the report, it’s alleged that Miele referred to early reception of BF2042 as “good,” but things took a turn for the worse when free-to-play Halo Infinite multiplayer was released, and the two games were compared, with Microsoft’s game being the more polished experience, this highlighted BF2042’s bugs and issues even more.

Now, in a statement sent to PCGamer, EA Communications VP John Reseburg states that the narrative from that report does not accurately reflect the discussion and context.

These stories are not accurately capturing the discussion and the context, which was an in-depth and very humble internal conversation about the recent Battlefield launch…It was about key learnings and actions we are taking, not blaming external factors. – EA Communications VP, John Reseburg

There’s no doubt now that Battlefield 2042 failed to sell as much as EA would have liked, and it failed the player base too in terms of giving us a solid first-person shooter experience. However, given we don’t have a proper transcript or witness to the meeting (which EA didn’t deny that happened), we can’t say for sure what happened, or if EA really did blame Halo Infinite.

Regardless of the competition, DICE and EA should take a long, hard look at BF2042 and maybe — just maybe — listen to the communty? Here’s to hoping that the next Battlefield game will stick to its roots and not try to reinvent the wheel once again.

Horizon Forbidden West Launch Day Celebrated With Life-Sized Statue in Seoul, Drone Shows, & More

To celebrate the launch day of Horizon Forbidden West in Asia, Sony and PlayStation prepared some real-life activities and more for the biggest fans of the series! The highlight is a life-sized statued in Seoul, Korea of a Clawstrider machine, but if you’re not in the area there are still some celebratory stuff to be found online, and you can check them all out below.

Kicking things off is the life-sized Clawstrider Machine statue. Located in 1st floor Atrium Square of Lotte World Mall in Seoul, South Korea, the life-sized statue was built meticulously with close collaboration with Guerrilla Studios and it showcases Clawstrider, a machine that is covered from head to tail in razor-sharp plates and equipped with vicious claws on both feet and forelimbs. The statue will be displayed until March 2, 2022. Check out an image of the Clawstrider below:

If you don’t live in Korea, don’t fret! You can still celebrate the Horizon Forbidden West launch day as Guerrilla Games also partnered with a few prominent Asia-based illustrators: Ravee of Titans (Thailand), Ann Maulina (Indonesia), Lee InHyuk (South Korea), VOFAN (Taiwan, also best known for his illustrations in Nisio Isin’s Monogatari light novels), and Little Thunder (Hong Kong). All of them have created special illustrations of Aloy, which you can use as desktop or smartphone wallpapers. Check them out here, as well as more details on the illustrations themselves.

Finally, if you’re feeling up for crafting yourself, you can also check out a video guide on papercrafting some of the more memorable Machines in Horizon Forbidden West. Check out guides for the Clawstrider and Sunwing papercrafts below:

Drone shows were also held in both Saudi Arabia and Russia for the release of Horizon Forbidden West. Check it out below:

In case you missed it, you can also check out our review of Horizon Forbidden West here, where AJ writes, “Aloy has quickly grown into one of my favorite Sony protagonists and the wide cast of characters each bring their own unique flavor to the game. Higher quality side quests, combined with a main campaign that feels grander in scope, and is much better paced than the original make for a strong story, and the beautiful environments, combined with highly detailed character models and improved gameplay make this an early candidate for Game of the Year.”

Fortnite February 18 Update for Xbox Released, Fixes Crashing Issue

Epic Games has released the Fortnite February 18 update for Xbox today, and this one is for a troublesome issue on the console! Check out the details on this latest patch below.

Fortnite February 18 Update for Xbox Patch Notes:

We’ve released a patch for Xbox One consoles to resolve the issue with crashing during log-in.

Please close out of and relaunch Fortnite to download this update.

That’s about it for the patch. In case you missed it, the last update for Fortnite, v19.30, added quite a hefty chunk of changes, one of them gyro controls on PC and PlayStation consoles!

With gyro controls, you control the camera by turning the controller. Enable or disable gyro controls in Fortnite by going to the “Touch and Motion” tab of the settings. Gyro controls can offer more precision than standard stick aiming – but don’t have to replace it entirely. (With flick stick, for example, pointing the right stick moves the camera quickly in its direction.) For more info on gyro, watch Jibb’s video below and read our Gyro and Flick Stick blog post!

If there are any more changes to this patch, we’ll be sure to update this post.
