Borderlands Movie Casts Jack Black as ClapTrap

Looks like one half of Tenacious D will be lending his talents to bring the world of Borderlands to life on the big screen, as Variety reports that Jack Black has been cast as ClapTrap in Eli Roth’s Borderlands Movie!

Here’s the exciting news tweeted by the makers of the Borderlands franchise itself, Gearbox Software!

Director Eli Roth himself, who worked with Jack Black in The House With a Clock in its Walls, expressed excitement in teaming up with the actor again.

“I am so excited to reunite with Jack, this time in the recording booth,” Roth said. “Claptrap is the funniest character in the game, and Jack is perfect to bring him to the big screen.”

As a NPC or Non-Playable Character in most of the Borderlands franchise, ClapTrap is one of the staple faces of the series who also becomes a playable character in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. He’s described as a CL4P-TP general purpose robot that has been programmed with an overenthusiastic personality. Created by Hyperion, the robot loves to brag and be the center of attention, yet is also prone to cowardice and loneliness. Seems these are traits that make Jack Black a perfect fit for the role given his resume on comedy and films such as Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny, School of Rock, and the Jumanji Films.

No release date has been given yet for the Borderlands movie, but in related casting news Jamie Lee Curtis also joins the ensemble as Dr. Tannis.

Little Nightmares 2 Review – Delightful Dread

When I originally played through Little Nightmares, I was immediately captivated by its horrifically grotesque and atmospheric world, a world paired brilliantly with simplistic but enjoyable puzzle-platforming gameplay. It felt heavily reminiscent of other indie horror platformers Limbo and Inside, opting for a gameplay experience that places the importance of a strong sense of atmosphere at the top of its list of priorities. It was good fun to play, but its short 2-3 hour run time and frustrating moments with the hard to judge depth perception left me a little annoyed with an experience I otherwise loved. Almost four years on from the release of the original, Little Nightmares 2 has arrived in the hopes of providing more of the gripping horror that the series has become known for. Does it succeed in being as engaging as the original, or does it find itself struggling to have the same impact? Read on for our Little Nightmares 2 review.

Grotesque and Gripping

Like the original, Little Nightmares 2 contains no dialogue. Instead, the story is for you to piece together throughout the roughly 4-6 hour adventure. Little Nightmares 2 introduces us to a new playable protagonist, a young boy known as Mono, who teams up with Six, the protagonist of the original game. The duo are attempting to make their way through The Pale City, a drab and decrepit city that seems to be negatively affected by the transmissions coming for the Signal Tower located deep in the heart of the town. Little Nightmares 2 chronicles the journey of Mono and Six as they attempt to reach the tower and disrupt the signal, with the two encountering numerous nightmarish atrocities along the way that want nothing more than to see the pair meet an untimely demise.

It becomes clear pretty quickly that the transmission coming from the signal tower is having a profound impact on both the city and its remaining inhabitants. People stand in awe at the tower on rooftops, while people who dwell in their homes are drawn to the static broadcast beamed through their television sets, so absorbed that turning off their TV will send them into a fit of rage. There may be no dialogue and thus not much in the way of narrative, but Little Nightmares 2 manages to still contain a series of interesting events that make for an enjoyable tale, in part due to the fantastic world building and consistently strong atmosphere, with the final moments of the game leaving me in shock and awe.

The unnerving atmosphere of Little Nightmares 2 is by far the game’s strongest asset. Unlike many horror games that rely heavily on cheap thrills like jumpscares, Little Nightmares 2 doesn’t take this approach at all, instead allowing all its fear to build because of the helplessness that you feel playing as a small defenseless child. The angsty moments arise when you’re hiding away from a foe, unsure if they’ll find you or you’ll luckily escape with your life. The soundtrack also does a great job at adding further fuel to the game’s fire, making scary and thrilling moments throughout the game all the more intense. Little Nightmares 2 isn’t outwardly scary in the traditional ways one would expect horror games to be, instead offering up a deeply uneasy and suspenseful form of fear that is constantly keeping you invested.

Atmospheric Angst

When it comes to gameplay, Little Nightmares 2 plays largely the same as the original, with some quality of life improvements and new additions sprinkled in. As Mono, you make your journey alongside Six throughout the Pale City on a quest to reach the strange Signal Tower, making your way through the wilderness on the outskirts of the city, a rundown school, and a derelict hospital before arriving at the mysterious tower. Each of these locales is home to a horrific individual that will hunt you down as you make your way through their respective level. For example, the Hunter watches over the wilderness, using his lamp and shotgun to find and kill anyone who lurks in his area, while the Teacher resides in the school, chasing down Mono if spotted with her immeasurably long extendable neck. Your task throughout Little Nightmares 2 is to do whatever you can to evade the clutches of these demonic creatures, which in most cases is running and hiding due to your conveniently bite-sized appearance.

Progression throughout each level can be achieved by platforming your way through the environment and completing puzzles that will unlock doors for Mono and Six to move deeper into the city. The platforming controls particularly well, with Mono able to jump, run and crouch to suit the situation at hand.  Unlike the first game which suffered occasionally with frustrating depth perception, Little Nightmares 2 overall feels easier to handle in such instances. For example, when walking on a narrow plank, the game will lock Mono’s movement to 2D, preventing him from falling off the plank, a common sense approach that wasn’t implemented in the original.

Each level also contains numerous puzzles that serve to provide some gameplay variety between level exploration and canned chase sequences where you find yourself running away from the level’s monster. Puzzles often require you to manipulate the objects in the rooms available to you in order to retrieve a key or other item of interest required to progress. For example, there is an x-ray present in the hospital of an animal toy that appears to have a key inside it. In order to retrieve the key you are required to place fluffy toys in an x-ray machine to see if it contains a key inside. If it does, you then must place the cute animal toy in the incinerator and burn it to get the key needed to open the door to the next area. There are countless creative puzzles present throughout Little Nightmares 2, ones that require you to take note of your environment and work efficiently as possible. Even Six can lend a hand in puzzles, whether it by boosting you up to otherwise unreachable heights or activating a lever for you.

A Dynamic Duo

Combat is also introduced in Little Nightmares 2 for some moments throughout the game. It starts off fun to begin with as it feels really satisfying to shatter the heads of the freaky mannequin children at the school, but the awkward and sluggish nature of the controls quickly leave the experience feeling largely frustrating and downright unenjoyable. If you miss your first attack (which you likely will), more often than not it will result in your death, which just doesn’t feel fair in a game where most deaths feel fair. I’m not against the idea of combat in a Little Nightmares game, but not if it feels as poor and undercooked as it does here. Overall though, combat mishaps aside, Little Nightmares 2 is a joy to play, with each level an unsettling but enjoyable playground to explore. If you stray off the beaten path you may even find the glitching remains collectibles or the hats that you can force Mono to wear.

While combat was the only major issue I had with how the game played, I did have some issues throughout my playthrough in the form of visual bugs. Leaving one room and entering another would cause a weird issue where the screen awkwardly loads in the room as you walk into it. This was a consistent issue I had throughout the entirety of the game, an issue that would take me out of the experience a tad too often. Mono also occasionally appears to spasm out as if he’s clipping into something which also further breaks immersion. The odd item in the environment would also exhibit a similar sort of behavior. The problems I encountered weren’t major by any stretch, but it was a shame to have the gripping atmosphere of the experience hindered somewhat by these problems.

Turn Off the TV!

Little Nightmares 2 is a great game, but at the same time it’s a few hiccups short of being an amazing one. The combat segments are half baked and infuriating, and there are a few too many visual bugs that shatter the immersive experience that Tarsier Studios otherwise brilliantly craft. Despite its shortcomings, Little Nightmares 2 still offers up a chilling and engrossing journey that will hold your interest throughout, with gameplay that is simple but serviceable.

SCORE: 8/10

Pros:

  • Chilling atmosphere
  • Solid gameplay
  • Brilliant aesthetic

Cons:

  • Combat is frustrating and undercooked
  • Occasional visual hiccups

Overwatch Update 3.05 February 11 Rolled Out (Update)

While Overwatch players are still busy with the game’s Lunar New Year 2021 event that’s currently on-going, Blizzard Entertainment has released the Overwatch update 3.05 February 11 patch! Head on below for details.

Overwatch Update 3.05 February 11 Patch Notes:

Update: Blizzard has released the patch notes and the changes are for Experimental only! The patch is out for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.

EXPERIMENTAL HERO UPDATES

The next experiment begins! This time we’re hoping to get your feedback on some balance changes. We’re using the 2-2-2 Role Queue ruleset so that you can get a feel for how these balance changes might affect the live game.

HERO UPDATES (ONLY IN EXPERIMENTAL)

Orisa

Fortify

  • Prevents critical headshot damage while effect is active

Developer Comments: This will make Fortify more reliable at preventing large bursts of incoming damage and should help it feel more consistent as a defensive ability.

Reaper

Hellfire Shotguns

  • Spread reduced from 8 to 6
  • Damage per projectile reduced from 7 to 6

Developer Comments: Reaper’s shotguns have a high damage potential but require close range or large targets to fully utilize. We’re experimenting with smoothing this out by extending the range at which he can consistently deal damage while lowering the maximum damage of each shot.

Winston

General

  • Base Armor/Health has been redistributed from 100/400 to 150/350

Developer Comments: With this change Winston will be slightly more resilient against shotguns, beams, and weapons with a high rate of fire.

Wrecking Ball

Grappling Claw

  • Knockback strength reduced 25%

Developer Comments: For how often it can occur, Wrecking Ball’s knockback is potentially too strong. We’re reducing the distance it moves enemy players to bring it more in line with other low cooldown knockback abilities.

For now, Blizzard Entertainment has not released any official patch notes, nor has it confirmed if this is just for the PS4 version or for every version of the shooter.

Here are the latest notes for the Feb. 9 patch per Blizzard Entertainment:

GENERAL UPDATES

Bounty Hunter
  • Bounty targets will lose their target status if they take too long to get a kill

BUG FIXES

General
  • Fixed a bug within the Bounty Hunter game mode where the Target status could become unavailable if the active Target left the game

For now, that’s all that’s available. We’re keeping an eye out for any new changes and developments and will update the post if we see anything new. Readers who know what’s new in today’s Overwatch patch, share your findings down in the comments below.

Update: Blizzard has released the official changelog for today’s Overwatch patch and it’s for Experimental only! We’ve updated the post to reflect this.

Street Fighter 5 Season 5 Start Date Set for Feb. 22, Winter Update Showcases Dan, Rose, and New V-Shift Game Mechanic

Street Fighter fans just got a big tastes of what’s to come for the year 2021, as Capcom wrapped up their Street Fighter 5 Winter Update news event — as Street Fighter 5 Season 5 sets its start date for February 22 — and there were tons of stuff showcased such as a nearly complete Dan Hibiki, our first look at Rose and her special moves, and the brand new game mechanic that’ll be called V-Shift that will be coming to Season 5.

If you want to catch the rebroadcast of the Winter Update, here it is via the Capcom Fighters YouTube channel.

With so much content coming up for the fifth and final season of the latest installment of the Street Fighter series, here’s the highlights of what the Winter update has presented.

  • Rose returns with brand new moves, including being able to fire her Soul Spark mid-air and an anti-air Soul attack that doesn’t see her leave the ground anymore. Her V-Skills and V-Triggers were also showcased, with V-Trigger II called Soul Satellite that is a callback to her second Ultra Move from Street Fighter 4.
  • Her Street Fighter Alpha 2 stage Marina of Fortune will be added as DLC for the game.
  • Motion capture and design artwork were shown on the creation of Rose and her move set.
  • The Capcom Pro Tour Final Season for the Capcom Cup will kick off next week this February 20-21.
  • Steve Aoki is collaborating with Dim Mak x Street Fighter for a set of new hoodies and merchandise. The Grammy nominated artist will also be releasing a new remix of Ryu’s Theme during the Capcom Cup next week.
  • A nearly complete and release ready Dan Hibiki was showcased and demonstrated, complete with his Special Moves, V-Triggers, V-Skills, and Super Art. His Battle Costume was also shown, with the Saikyo-Ryu practitioner ripped, shirtless, and wearing a Tengu Mask much like his late father Go Hibiki.
  • SFV Battle Director Ryuichi Shigeno introduced the new game mechanic called V-Shift — a defensive system that consumes V-Gauge but helps players get out of tight spots and pressure from opponents.

  • Finally, a new Street Fighter Premium Pass package is introduced — which will give players access to all Season 5 characters as well as other new DLC content such as new costumes, new stages, new character colors, titles, and more. 100,000 Fight Money will also be given with the purchase.
  • At the end of the Winter Update, Street Fighter 3 character and the third Season 5 DLC character Oro was teased.

  • Dan Hibiki and the first Season 5 update will roll out starting February 22.

[unitegallery street_fighter_v_winter_update]

Not revealed in the Winter Update event itself but in the Post- event Twitch stream discussion, Eleven (previously leaked) is a Bonus Character who is not the fifth mysterious fighter for Season 5. Instead, he/she/it can mimic fighters and essentially acts as the random select character for SF5.

Here’s the character in action.

And that’s pretty much the Winter Update for Street Fighter 5. Expect Season 5 to start with the release of Dan on February 22 — a day after the finals for the Capcom Cup.

Word has it there are even rare hearts that will spawn groups of ghosts from the Bloody Harvest, affording you an off-season opportunity to score some spooky loot.

Neverwinter Update 8.52 February 11 Slashes Out for Crashing Issues

Cryptic Studios has just released a title update for Neverwinter on consoles! The Neverwinter update 8.52 February 11 patch is out for both PS4 and Xbox One, and is primarily to fix crashing issues that has affected players in different situations.

Neverwinter Update 8.52 February 11 Patch Notes:

Highlights

The goal of this patch is to address a set of crashes that affected players in a wide variety of circumstances. This patch should fix the game crashing / closing unexpectedly in the following circumstances:

  • The game loads specific objects in certain specific maps.
  • The game loads visual effects from a specific set of enemy powers and abilities, e.g. certain ground-targeted warning effects for Frost Giant Runecasters.
  • The game loads visual effects from a specific set of player powers in PvP.

Our hope is that this will drastically lower the frequency of crashes experienced by players. We will monitor the crash rate after this patch in case there is more we need to address.

Note: We will be turning on the temporarily removed dungeon and trial queues once maintenance is complete.

Other Changes

Enemies and Encounters

General

  • Batiri Shaman enemies should now die as quickly as other, similar-difficulty enemies.

User Interface

Character Sheet

  • The tooltips for the new stats, introduced by the Combat Rework, are now as wide as other similar tooltips.

That’s about it. Hopefully, this mitigates any crashing issues from happening further.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart Release Date Set For June 11 on PS5

It’s almost time to rejoin Rachet and his robotic buddy Clank in a new adventure that will send them across the multiverse, as Sony Interactive Entertainment and Insomniac Games have announced via the PlayStation Blog that the Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart release date is June 11!!

Check out the pre-order trailer that was just released.

Here’s the details and an overview of the game from the PlayStation Blog.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is a brand-new full-length adventure. When the evil Dr. Nefarious uses a device that can access alternate dimensions to find a galaxy where he always wins, Ratchet and Clank are separated. As they try to reunite, they will meet a new Lombax resistance fighter, explore new and familiar locales (but with new dimensional twists!), and wield a whole new arsenal of out of this world weapons.

If you’ve never played a Ratchet & Clank game before, this is an excellent one to start with as the adventure is a stand-alone storyline, but longtime fans of the series will find deeper layers of connection to previous games.

We previously reported that the Digital Deluxe version of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart has been rated in Taiwan, and as expected Sony shortly announced the release date.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will be released exclusively for the PS5 on June 11.

Genshin Impact PS5 Version Rated in Taiwan

It would appear that Genshin Impact may be releasing for the PS5 as an official rating has been given in Taiwan.

Like early with Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart Digital Deluxe Edition, Genshin Impact has been rated for the PS5 in Taiwan, via spreadsheet from the official Taiwan Rating Board.

When ran through Google translator, the title that populates is “Original Gods”, which is the name given to Genshin Impact in some Eastern regions. The rating that was given was PG12 (ages 12 and up) citing sex and violence as the reason for the rating.

About Genshin Impact:

You and your sibling traveled to Teyvat from another world. Separated on arrival, and now stranded here, you set about searching for answers from The Seven — the gods of each element.

Joined by Paimon, a kind-hearted sprite guide, your mission takes you through beautiful forests, bustling towns and treacherous dungeons. And while your journey may put you into the path of merciless foes and fiendish puzzles you can count on over 30 playable allies to join your custom party of four, harnessing the power of the elements to overcome all obstacles.

Along the way, you will freely explore this wondrous world, join forces with a diverse range of characters, and unravel the countless mysteries that Teyvat holds.

While Genshin Impact is currently available on PSN and playable on the PS5, this version is that belonging to the PS4 and therefore does not take full advantage of Sony’s new next-generation console. This rating is a good sign that developers, miHoYo is preparing to release a native port for the PS5. Hopefully they can take full advantage of the PS5 along with any of the Dualsense features.

If we hear any official word from the company, we will be sure to let you all know , so stay tuned!

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart Digital Deluxe Edition Has Been Rated in Taiwan

With a target release of being the first half of 2021, it would appear that the Taiwan rating board has officially rated Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart along with a digital deluxe edition.

As spotted by Twitter user Andrew Marmo, the official Taiwan game rating board (via downloadable spreadsheet) has rated Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart for the PS5.

Taking the line of text for the game and running it through Google translator also reveals that not only has the base game (regular edition ) been rated, but also has a digital deluxe edition of it. The game has also been rated “PG 12” (12 and up) and quotes “violence” for it’s rating explanation.

No official announcement has been made by Insomniac Studios or Sony concerning any kind of digital deluxe, or even a collector edition though we suspect this will change very soon. Chances are, we will be getting a new announcement (State of Play perhaps?) very soon that’ll not only detail the Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart Digital Deluxe Edition, but also possibly a set release date. We’ve reached out to Insomniac Games and Sony for any comment, so stay tuned for updates!

Six Days in Fallujah Resurfaces After 11 Years, Will Launch in 2021 & Being Developed by Ex-Bungie Staff

Remember Six Days in Fallujah? It was a tactical shooter in development for the PS3 and Xbox 360 back in 2009 that was based on real-world events, which was cancelled due to the controversy surrounding it. Well, it seems the game is back on track and what’s more, is out for release later this year!

In a press release, a new announcement trailer has been shown off along with the first few details regarding the game! It’s now being developed by Highwire Games which is comprised of devs that helped make the original Halo and Destiny games (Bungie staff).

Watch the trailer that instead of focuses on full-on action, instead tries to share the tension of assaulting structures and the fear that opening a door might be your last one.

According to the press release, the devs are working in partnership with frontline Marines and soliders who fought in the Battle for Fallujah. Publisher Victura and Highwire has spent more than three years building unique tech and game mechanics that “bring players closer to the uncertainty and tactics of modern combat than other video games have explored.”

The devs are aiming for Six Days in Fallujah to be the “most authentic military shooter to date and to tell these military and civilian stories with the integrity they deserve.’

Six Days in Fallujah will be released this 2021 on PC and consoles, though it wasn’t specified which consoles, and whether it will still incorporate multiplayer as was the original goal. Given the devs behind it, I gather, multiplayer is all but a certainty.

We’ll have more on the game as more info surfaces.

Twitch Accidentally Leaks Street Fighter 5 Season 5 Final Character

With the Street Fighter 5 Winter Update reveal is set to happen later, perhaps it’s biggest surprise has been accidentally leaked by Twitch! The streaming platform has sent mass emails which seemt to indicate that the Street Fighter 5 Season 5 final character is none other than Eleven!

Apparently, Twitch themselves have leaked it as shown in the image below:

Adding fuel to the fire is this tweet from the official Street Fighter account:

The wait won’t be long now, as the Street Fighter 5 Winter Update news will drop this 9 a.m. PT/12 noon ET! Once we know the official details, we’ll let our readers know. Those not familiar with Eleven, the character is an early prototype of Twelve, and while the character can takeon virtually any form, Eleven’s default appearance is a milky-white male himan with a V-shaped head.

There is the slim chance that Twitch had an error, but we doubt it since everthing seems to align for Eleven’s reveal later today.

Thanks, Reddit!

Updates from Mike Wang on next patch, recent hotfixes, and badges.
byu/yyy2k inNBA2k

New Update, Still a 10 Minute Long Zion Screen?
byu/djjazzygeef inNBA2k

Recent hot fix went in to fix the easy special delivery team takes and slight nerf to contact dunks. Let me know if further changes are needed. Looking into post hook exploits, fading 3’s, and OP blinders badge. Any other badges need adjusting?

Initial fade fix will come via patch. But after that, it will be possible to adjust independently without affecting other shot types with hot fixes. Will be looking for feedback until (almost) everyone is happy.

hey @Beluba, any eta on the upcoming next-gen patch?

We’re working on it.

Contact dunks are way to common, u literally get dragged into it, maybe add contact blocks if you know what I mean

Agreed. It’s in the plans for 22.

How about nerfing charges on next gen. Any time I drive majority of the time it turns into a charge animation

I’ll tighten it up by early next week

As you can see, the long loading screen is stll there, which I hoped would be the first one they’d fix. Same as before, if you spot any gameplay-related changes or technical fixes, feel free to let us know down in the comemnts below.

Hunt Showdown Update 1.18 February 11 Is for 1.4.8

Crytek has released the Hunt Showdown update 1.18 February 11 patch or what’s also known as Hunt Showdown patch 1.4.8! This brings a host of changes, fixes and more.

Hunt Showdown Update 1.18 February 11 (1.4.8) Patch Notes:

Hunters,

Below are the update notes for 1.4.8. on both Console and PC. Some differences will be highlighted with the term Console only if they are specific to console. The current known issues are split into two sections, “PC and Console” and “Console Only” and are being updated regularly when new issues are noticed.

Happy Hunting!

Highlights

Additional Looting OptionsThis update brings a new looting opportunity to keep an out for on your treks through the Bayou. As with everything loot/ammo related in hunt, the “rule of two” applies to these new items.

The following items are now scattered throughout the world:

  • Envelopes that can contain one of the following:
    • 1000 Hunter XP.
    • 500 Bloodline XP.
    • 3-6 Upgrade points.
  • Small bags:
    • <25 Hunt dollars.
    • <3 Blood Bonds.

  • Trait charms:
    • These items will instantly unlock a random trait for your Hunter.

  • Blueprints:
    • These items will unlock the next available item unlock available for the currently equipped item (e.g holding a weak vitality shot while collecting the blueprint will unlock weak stamina shot.)
  • Gun oil (cosmetic only):
    • Oil that will clean your currently equipped weapon.
  • Meatheads:
    • Trait charms have a chance to drop from killing Meatheads.

Developer Note:

Looting in Hunt has always been an exciting experience. Whether it is desperately looting a dead hunter for extra supplies or trying to sneak those thousands of Hunt Dollars out while using a budget loadout, the action has always evoked the primary emotions that Hunt is built around. With this addition, we have 2 aims:

  • We want to add more value to the specific Hunters you use when ranking up (improve the risk/reward balance that we have always tried to keep prevalent in Hunt: Showdown).
  • Allow for more opportunities to explore the map and ensure there are benefits to doing so.

Additional traits have been available in quickplay for a while, but we wanted to find a good way to tie acquiring traits in to Bounty Hunt and we feel this is a good way to achieve that goal. The main difference in bounty hunt is that the charm drop shows which trait will be unlocked, so you can decide if you want to collect it, unlike in quickplay where the traits are randomly given for investigating clues. Each charm will contain a different trait, so it is up to you if you want to take one or leave it to your partner(s) (“rule of two” applies to trait charms also). This method also means that meatheads are a much more worthwhile investment in terms of time vs reward.

These new ways of levelling your hunters will mostly benefit new and low rank/newly prestiged players, as many of the traits will not be available to purchase at that early stage.

Watch TowersA new addition to the landscape of the Bayou; Watch towers have now been added in several locations.

  • Hunters will have a chance to find supplies such as ammo/ health or weapons at the watch towers, though it will contain less than you find at the regular supply points.
  • Make sure to check the top of the tower when you pass by as there will always be something to find.

Lawson Delta:

  • Watch tower added on top of the Bunker between Sweetbell Flower and Fort Carmick

Stillwater Bayou:

  • Watch tower added in the swamp between Pitching Crematorium and Lockbay Docks.
  • Watch tower added to the hillslope north of Healing Waters.

Hunting towers:

  • Hunting towers have also received an upgrade. Hunters will have a chance to find either an ammo box, health station or weapon in the tower.

New Weapon Variants

Winfield M1873 Musket-Bayonet

  • An elongated variant of the Winfield M1873 with a Bayonet and a slightly larger magazine
  • Holds an extra +2 rounds in the elongated tube magazine
  • Levering shoots at a slightly reduced rate of fire than other Winfield M1873 rifles

Nagant M1895 Officer Carbine Deadeye

  • An Officer Carbine variant with a Deadeye scope.
  • Reduced shoulder aim accuracy due to the mounted scope.
  • Recoil is harder to control in ADS due to increased zoom.

New Legendary Weapons

Vagrant

  • Legendary Winfield M1873C Silencer
  • A vagrant known as the tin-man rattled around the city with a large bag of cans, harmless until a malicious Hunter threw them into the bay. Able to save but a few, he decorated his Winfield M1873C Silencer with the remainder, and set out for revenge – silent as a whisper.

Death Letter

  • Legendary M1895 Nagant Officer Brawler
  • Death pens no warning of His coming, and for Hunters and soldiers alike, the sound of gunfire is the only correspondence foretelling their demise. This Nagant’s personalized engraving appears to reference an old Civil War ballad written by one who would later become a Hunter – delivering his own dark tidings with each deadly shot, death incarnate.

DeSalle’s Silence

  • Legendary Sparks LRR Silencer
  • The favored Sparks LRR of the elder DeSalle brother, a man whose business ventures would not have been as successful without the occasional enforced silence.

Gunplay

Concertina bomb

  • Explosion delay decreased to ~0.5s (previously ~1.5s).

Melee changes – Hatchet, Talon, Heavy Knife & Machete

  • Slightly changed the attack angle of the Hatchet and Talon attachments to ensure hits are more reliable.
  • Slightly changed the attack angle of the Heavy knife to ensure hits are more reliable.
  • Slightly changed the angle of the normal attack for the Machete to ensure hits are more reliable.

Officer Carbine

  • Slightly Increased the recoil of the Nagant Officer Carbine.

Antidote shots

  • Antidote shots no longer reduces the damage taken from poison-based attacks (e.g spider bounce, stings from the Hive Swarms
  • Poison cloud damage remains unchanged and will reduce damage by 100%

Developer note:

Up until now, if you were attacked by the spider or a hive while an antidote shot was active, the physical damage that was caused was also reduced. We felt that this was a little unbalanced especially in instances like the spider frenzy, which made it possible to tank the spider far more effectively than intended so with this change, the physical damage will from attacks such as these will be applied as normal while still ensuring you remain poison free after an interaction with a spider or Hive.

Aim Assist (Consoles Only)

  • Increased aim assist strength for Water Devils

Hunter

Trait Rework: Ghoul

  • New description: “Killing grunts at close range restores a small amount of health”.
  • Radius of 25m, similar to Necromancer and Serpent traits.
  • Health will be granted only if you instigate the damage, you do not have to land the killing blow to benefit from the health gain.
  • Restores 5hp per kill.
  • Price increased to 7 points (this is subject to change based on test server feedback).

Developer note:

In our opinion, Ghoul is a trait that has a lot of untapped potential (as well as a low pick rate) and could use some attention. We wanted to ensure that the trait remains true to its theme of replenishing health from the dead, however we wanted to make it less situational. In the past, players could only benefit from it if they dared to loot a hunter in combat, but in most instances that was not the main goal of looting in a fight (the main goal usually getting another consumable or tool charge to benefit the fight).

We wanted to turn the Ghoul trait into something that is more versatile and offer it as a more of a tactical option through any stage of the game. The trait can now help to preserve your health items for the important PVP fights later in the round and as a result should help hunters be less reliant on searching for health stations throughout the match.

Interaction Outlines

  • Option added to the menu to allow you to customize the highlighting outlines of interactable items (doors, windows, etc.)
  • This option does not alter the UI prompts from showing in the top right corner of the screen when in range of an interactable object.

The options are as follows:

  • All: Current behaviour – all interactable object are outlined frequently.
  • None: Turn of fall outlines for interactable objects and partner outlines.
  • Exclude Door and windows: Similar to “all”, but doors and windows will no longer be highlighted (does not affect other interactable objects)

Developer note:

This change is meant to address two long standing requests from the community. Some have wanted to remove more UI elements from the game to be able to record cinematic content more efficiently.

For others, it has always been hard to track opponents behind doors or windows in certain lighting conditions. We understand that our veterans know where every accessible door and window are so we want to provide them with the option to forfeit interaction highlights for a better overview of what is going on behind the doors/windows.

Bounty Hunt

Banishing a Boss

  • Initiating the banishing process with now restore all lost health chunks as well as replenishing all your health.

Developer note:

Previously, it was unclear to a lot of players as to what was restored by the banishing process. To remove some of the ambiguity that came from using different health chunk set-ups we have made it so that all health chunks are restored, and your health pool is refilled. So, if your team starts the banish, you are in back in the fight – no questions asked!

Dark Sight Boost

  • Investigating a clue while carrying a bounty token will now restore 1 second of Dark Sight Boost. We hope this will encourage Hunters to be more inclined to run the gauntlet if there is a second target.

Extraction Points

  • Changes made to ensure that all extraction points will not spawn next to each other. One extraction point will always be at least 500m away from the other two.

Developer note:

We like challenging rounds as much as the next person, but we must acknowledge that certain randomly generated elements in the game such as the location of extraction points, can lead to unfavorable situations for those that want to focus on objective play.

With this change, we want to eliminate one of the most extreme cases that limits potential exit strategies. The available extractions may still be in roughly the same area, however, setting the distance of one to at least 500m will give better options to extract so that you may live to die another day.

Leaderboard

  • Player will be shown on the leaderboard only if they meet all those conditions:
    • Logged in within the last 30 days.
    • Have at least 100 kills in Quickplay or 100 Kills or Assist in Bounty Hunt.
    • Didn’t opt out from showing their stats publicly.
    • Not banned.
    • Played at least 50 hours.

MetaUnlock Rank Changes

  • Duster is now available at Rank 1 (previously Rank 20).
  • Spyglass is now available at Rank 1 (previously Rank 24).
  • Machete is now available at rank 24 (previously Rank 12).
  • Nagant M1895 Officer is now available at Rank 12 (previously Rank 36).
  • Winfield M1873 is now available at Rank 20 (previously Rank 42).

Developer note:

In preparation for update 1.5, we are moving around some items so that we can evenly distribute the unlocks before adding the new unique Winfield M1876 and M1887 that were teased in our most recent blog post. In addition to this, some items have been moved to Rank1 to allow for more variety in the early levels and more choice when it comes to selecting preferred melee tools.

The Nagant officer family now unlocks shortly after the Caldwell Pax, which give players more choice when it comes to assembling balanced loadouts as well as adding more quality weapons around those ranks rather than having a focus on the quantity of weapons available (example combining single shot rifles or shotguns with a rapid-fire handgun and vice versa). The same applies to the Winfield, which is now sitting between the Martini Henry and Sparks LRR unlocks.

Faster Progression: XP Overspill for Equipment Unlocks

  • XP earned during a mission with any piece of equipment will now overspill into the next unlock within that equipment family.

Developer note:

Due to some technical issues. The experience from the last hit, that resulted in the death of an AI would not carry over (overspill) into the next unlock, but all XP after this was applied as normal. This has now been resolved and any overspill XP will be applied correctly going forward.

e.g. player requires 10 XP to unlock the Romero handcannon. Killing a Hive grants 20 XP, which will unlock the weapon and open the next unlock gate, but that extra 10 XP was lost.

Store

Price updates

  • Nagant Officer Carbine is now $155 (previously $80)

New Weapons added

  • Added Nagant Officer Carbine Deadeye for $211
  • Added Winfield Musket-Bayonet for $137
  • New Legendary Weapons added
  • Added Legendary Winfield M1873c Silencer “Vagrant” for 200 Blood Bonds
  • Added Legendary Nagant Officer “Death Letter” for 200 Blood Bonds
  • Added Legendary Sparks LRR Silencer “DeSalle’s Silence” for 400 Blood Bonds

Roster

  • Added new possible name variations for Hunter recruits

Miscellaneous

  • Tweaked a calculation tied to the texture streaming memory budget to improve the game’s performance.
  • Improvements made to the overall game stability and fixed multiple issues that was causing a memory leak with the renderer.
  • The “Rank” text has been replaced by a dedicated icon on the Lobby screen
  • A new icon representing the Traits was added onto the trait selection bottom bar in the Roster and Upgrade pages.

Bug Fixes (PC and Console)

AI

  • Fixed an issue with the pathfinding for some AI that could become stuck on corners (Meathead, Butcher, Grunts).
  • Fixed an issue that resulted in caged dogs not taking damage from a burning player.
  • Fixed an issue that meant players could receive damage from caged dogs while standing directly beside the cage.
  • Fixed an issue that resulted in crows and ducks reacting incorrectly to the sounds of the Silenced Spark LRR as if it were the regular Sparks LRR.

Misc

  • Fixed an issue where deployable items such as the Bear Trap could be placed on concertina wire.
  • Static (unlit) lanterns will now make a sound when shattered.
  • Choke bombs will now extinguish Alert trip mine flares.
  • Fixed an issue where lanterns in boxes were difficult to interact with.
  • Fixed an issue that resulted in Decoy fuses not being resupplied while having the Decoy resupply trait.
  • Fixed an issue where explosions would not influence farm bells (ding!)
  • Fixed an inconsistency in the exhausted state melee damage for the Mosin Nagant Obrex variants.
  • Fixed a crash that could potentially occur when shutting down the game.
  • Fixed an issue that could result in being attacked by an immolator during the “waiting for players” stage when spawning in South-East Lawson Delta. (they just wanted a hug!)
  • Fixed a rendering issue where certain geometry would flicker in an out at specific points in Healing Waters Church.
  • Fixed an issue where players could become stuck on some bunkbeds in Wolfshead Arsenal (no sleeping on the hunt!)
  • Fixed an issue that could cause a player to become stuck at a hut by the river near Arden Parish.
  • Fixed a spot in Catfish where hunters could become stuck.
  • Fixed an issue where a hunter could vault through a roof in Sweetbell Flour.
  • Fixed an issue where AI would pop in too close to a Hunter in Fort Carmick.
  • Fixed a number of issues that resulted in not being able to pick up hammers and axes.

Known Issues (PC and Console)

  • New “+” symbols will appear in the store and news after a game restart, even if no new items are available.
  • In some cases, on the recruitment page, an insanely high amount of hunter dollars will be displayed in the “hire” section. This is purely visual and is only visible when no recruits are present.
  • When purchasing a DLC that contains 2 Hunters, the 2nd legendary hunter pop up will not be displayed.
  • A butcher extinguished with a choke bomb can still set you on fire with the final death swing (so don’t get too close).
  • In some cases, the spider frenzy will end if you leave the boss area.
  • In some cases, weapons can disappear through the floor after swapping with another weapon.
  • Some buttons in the store can disappear when selecting different filter options.
  • It is possible to dismiss all hunters.
  • Depending on the sprinting state, you may encounter some inconsistencies with movement speed while stopping bleeding/fire.
  • Some LoD transitions are delayed.
  • In certain cases, where there is a slowdown between client and backend, it is possible to reshuffle a number of times, in these cases you will use more blood bonda than intended.
  • In some rare cases, the extraction icon will show the incorrect message (such as being revived in the extraction while spectating, the revived player may still see “Your partner is down, Revive them!”. This is purely visual and the timer will count down as normal.
  • In some cases, when at rank 100, the value of bloodline XP in the game summary may show double what was earned.
  • Incorrect ammo reserve details can sometimes be shown when looting a weapon.
  • In rare cases, the concertina wire will not damage players.
  • ELO arrows are not displayed in the killcard if the player that killed you has their stats are hidden.
  • In some cases, shooting at birds from a distance will not cause them to fly away.
  • Whisper indicator will stop once the Assassin has been killed.
  • Duster melee chaining may not work as intended after several melee attacks.
  • Any lootable weapon that spawns in the tutorial is not kept when leaving the mission.
  • When using Gunsligner, melee cannot be used during weapon preparation.
  • When using Gunslinger, chained (repeated) shots are less reliable.
  • When using Gunslinger, cancelling a reload can result in extra inputs needed to get back to ADS.
  • Disconnecting from the game while interacting from a metal gate will cause the action to continue.
  • Switiching firemodes while dual weilding the Lemat does not return you to the correct stance and continues to play the audio loop.
  • The Butcher will not stop its attack when extinguished by a choke bomb.
  • Thrown world axes will not damage hive swarms, but will bounce off them.
  • Buy button on the sole survivor page will show an incorrect value if no survivors are available.
  • Weapons sway may increase when landing after a jump.

The Last of Us HBO TV Series Casts Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey as Joel and Ellie

Fans of Naughty Dog and PlayStation Studios critically acclaimed survival horror game The Last of Us are going to be very excited with the upcoming TV series adaptation, as Deadline Hollywood has announced that Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey have been cast as main characters Joel and Ellie for The Last of Us HBO TV series!

The announcements, just hours apart from each other, have garnered praise and excitement from the TLOU fanbase. Both Pascal and Ramsey starred in HBO’s phenomenal Game of Thrones series — and both talents played fan favorite characters that were introduced in different seasons of the show. Pascal played the charismatic Dorne prince Oberyn Martell, while Ramsey was cast the young and headstrong Lyanna Mormont.

Pedro Pascal’s casting as Joel adds another feather to his cap of exciting roles the Chilean-American actor has played over the years. In addition to his breakout role in GoT, the actor plays the main character of Disney + critically acclaimed Star Wars TV series The Mandalorian — which has turned into a pop culture phenomenon after two seasons. Pascal also recently starred alongside Gal Gadot in Wonder Woman 1984 — playing the villainous role of Maxwell Lord in the DC Superhero sequel movie.

Just a few months shy of turning 18 years old, Bella Ramsey has already cemented herself as one of the most promising young actresses to emerge in Hollywood. Her casting as fan-favorite TLOU character Ellie seems like a perfect match, especially since Bella can sing and play the guitar — traits that are shared with the video game character she will be bringing to life in the upcoming TV series.

Based on the Game of the Year winning franchise of the same name created by Neil Druckmann and Naughty Dog, The Last of Us tells the story of Joel and Ellie — survivors living in a post-apocalyptic world where a fictional cordyceps virus has turned most of humanity into zombie-like creatures called the Infected. As a 40 year old hardened survivor with a tragic past, Joel is entrusted with bringing Ellie across the former United States to a remote location that may have a possible cure to the disease. The TV series adaptation will be handled by Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin, with Druckmann also teaming up with him to oversee the project as well.

Last year Naughty Dog released a sequel in The Last of Us Part 2 for the PS4 — which we reviewed here.
