Rainbow 6 Siege Year 5 Season 3 Patch Notes for Operation Shadow Legacy Revealed

If you haven’t been keeping tabs on Rainbow 6 Siege news, you might not have known that the franchise is crossing over with Splinter Cell by bringing super spy Sam Fisher as an Operator in Operation Shadow Legacy! Before the patch is pushed out, Ubisoft has released the Rainbow 6 Siege Year 5 Season 3 patch notes (Y5S3)!

Rainbow 6 Siege Year 5 Season 3 patch notes:

Zero – Attacker:

Unique Abilities and Playstyle:

Argus Launcher:

Intel is crucial to a good attack strategy, and Zero is well aware of that. His Argus Launcher is equipped with very special cameras that can lodge themselves into breakable and reinforced surface to surveil either side.

Yes, these cameras can cover two angles and effectively allow you to spy on the opposing team. Argus Cameras do have one more quirk though: a single laser shot, perfect for destroying key elements in the Defenders’ setup or drawing attention away from choke points.

MAP REWORK: CHALET
Chalet has been with us for a long time, and it has a special place in our hearts. Unfortunately, in its previous state it was not as viable as other maps, so we wanted to give it the love it deserved with a proper rework.

To modernize the map, we focused on the Objectives and how balanced they were.

The Basement and Kitchen sites were already quite strong, so the changes there were minor. One hallway was added to improve rotation between the sites in Basement, and we switched out the Trophy site for a new one in Dining.

For Bar and Gaming, the difference is mostly in access and rotation, as it is for most of the map. Doors were moved, and a new hallway on the South side links them together.

Finally, you’ll find the biggest changes with Bedroom and Office. The stairs that led up from the first floor have been moved to connect Trophy and a brand-new room that replaces the balcony next to Master Bedroom: the Solarium. The Bathroom no longer connects directly into Bedroom, but rather serves as a rotation point.

A few other noticeable changes include the extension of the Mezzanine to connect to Office Balcony (where most windows have been blocked), roof access with new rappel points, and Wine Cellar no longer being separated into two rooms.

Overall, you’ll find that the map has been greatly reconfigured, whether it be by changing the cover inside objectives, or moving access points, or even offering new options for rotation. However, it remains widely recognizable and keeps its signature thematic.

PING 2.0
The new Ping system is coming! On top of regular yellow pings, you’ll now be able to use contextual pings both while in Character and while using Cameras and Drones. You’ll also be able to keep pinging after being eliminated, so your ability to give your teammates intel will remain.

A few notes, however:

You can reveal opposing Operators by pinging their primary gadget.
Regular yellow pings have assigned numbers to make for easier callouts.
The reticle used to determine where your ping will go can be turned off in Options.
When using a controller, the default Ping input has been switched with the Swap Fire Mode input.
Take the time to familiarize yourself with this new system. It’s bound to change the way everyone approaches and considers sharing intel with their team.

MAP BAN
We’re introducing a new feature called the Map Ban that will allow players to gain more control over the maps they play, both on Ranked and Unranked.

Before a match, each team will be able to ban one map from a random pre-selection of three maps from the pool. Banning the same map will result in a random selection from the two remaining maps while banning two different maps, by elimination, will result in the selection of the remaining map. Players can also choose not to ban any maps.

MATCH REPLAY – TEST SERVER ONLY
Rainbow Six Siege is an ever-evolving game and always striving to bring the best to its players. This season, we’re bringing a new feature to our Test Server only, as we are in the early stages of development.

Introducing Match Replay, a function that records your last matches – up to 12 of them – locally on your own PC. The feature is enabled by default in General Options, and you’ll be able to access a “WATCH” section directly from the menu allowing you to playback your last few plays, recorded at an average of 30 MB per minute of gameplay. Once you’re in the replay, you can use the Spectator mode tools to check any top-down view or any first-person view – whether yours, your teammates’, or someone from the opposing team.

We’re aiming to have this feature be helpful for all types of players at any level, from new players looking for knowledge of their maps, to pros and coaches looking for a new strategy, to even analysts and content creators. This could also be a great tool to avoid cheating in the community.

By releasing the feature this season on our Test Server, we intend to gather all your feedback on this feature first, then pull it back to polish and improve it.

NEW OPTICS AND SIGHT COLORS
In an effort to make Rainbow Six Siege a game anyone can enjoy, we are introducing a new feature that will increase the accessibility of the game. We’re implementing new optics and sight colors to allow for a better experience to players that are colorblind or visually impaired.

Our menu section now includes an “ACCESSIBILITY” tab that proposes various color options adapted to different forms of color blindness (Deuteranopia, Protanopia and Tritanopia). A custom option is also available for anyone to adjust the sight colors to their preference. Players will get to preview those sight options in small and full screen mode before making their choice.

We aim to increase the comfort level for all of our players and ensure everyone has the best experience possible.

REINFORCEMENT POOL
We’re changing the way teams prepare for combat with the new Reinforcement Pool system. Rather than have 2 reinforcements to deploy each in their inventories, Operators will now take from a Reinforcement Pool, including 10 available reinforcements to share with teammates. The pool will decrease by 1 for each reinforcement used and will increase by 1 for each failed reinforcement.

The goal of this update is to bring some balance to the Defending team, allowing Operators that already have a lot of preparation before a match to leave it to others. This can also allow for more experienced player to take on the reinforcements if newer players have less knowledge of the map. This feature is also available in PvE, in Protect Hostage.

At the moment, we have removed the amount of reinforcements HUD for the caster. The HUD for the Reinforcement Pool should be added in the coming months.

THATCHER CHANGES
The Disabled State for Electronic Gadget (DSEG) is an update aiming to add a “disabled” state for gadgets, besides “active” or “destroyed”. The duration of this states depends on the ability from the opposite operator that caused the gadget to be disabled. Gadgets in that state can still be deployed and can still be detected by Operators with the proper gadgets.

In this new phase, we’re aiming to implement a loss of functionality for all Defenders gadgets across the board when Thatcher uses his EMP Grenade. Rather than having some gadgets destroyed and others disabled for a short amount of time, we’re choosing to unify the behavior of gadgets affected by Thatcher and have them all be disabled temporarily.

SQUADFINDER
We’re offering a brand-new service called SquadFinder on our website to help Rainbow Six Siege players find the perfect teammates and build the best Squad in the game.

SquadFinder allows players to create a profile based on their in-game data and play habits and set-up a request following their game sessions, languages, playstyle and game mode. The matching system will then connect them to players with similar stats and with good compatibility. From then on, you can send and accept friend requests, allowing players to gain new teammates and friends to join the fight.

The more we are, the better the experience will be!

SIEGE STATS
Another update we are proud to offer is the arrival of a stats tracker available to all players on our website, available during the season. You have been vocal about how important tracking your performance is, so you will soon be able to access your history through the brand new MY SIEGE STATS section on our website.

With only your username, you will be able to access your stats for the current season and break it down into monthly and weekly summaries. You’ll also be able to access your previous seasons, add friends to see how their stats stack up to your own, receive weekly personalized recaps of your best matches and check out the advanced stats pro players use to track their performance!

OPERATORS PRICE DECREASE
This season will see a price decrease for seven Operators. Amaru and Goyo now see their prices down to 20,000 Renown or 480 R6 Credits. Maverick and Clash’s price is going down to 15,000 Renown or 360 R6 Credits, and Ying, Lesion and Ela will go down to 10,000 Renown or 240 R6 Credits.

BALANCING CHANGES
With the introduction of the hard breach charge, new sights and scopes, the change to the DSEG 1.2, and other gameplay balancing updates in this update; we’re holding off on operator-related balancing changes for the time being to evaluate their impact.

LOADOUTS

Montagne: Hard breach charge replacing Stun Grenades.
Ying: Hard breach charge replacing Breach Charges.
Fuze: Hard breach charge replacing Smoke Grenades.
Finka: Hard breach charge replacing Breach Charges.
Amaru: Hard breach charge replacing Claymore.
Nøkk: Hard breach charge replacing Breach Charges.
Capitão: Hard breach charge replacing Stun Grenades.
Lion: Hard breach charge replacing Claymore.
MAVERICK

Maverick now has an additional blowtorch canister, with 6 in all (up from 5).
This gives players more leniency when rationing their fuel to open hatches. On average it requires approximately 2.3 canisters to open a hatch, so an extra canister will be a bit more forgiving of mistakes.

TWEAKS & IMPROVEMENTS
GAME BALANCING

See above for information on the new secondary Hard Breach Charge gadget and changes to Thatcher’s DSEG 1.2.

NEW SIGHTS

New sights are coming! We’re introducing 2 new sights and 2 new scopes:

New M4S Red Dot Sight – 1.0x zoom, which functions as a ‘no zoom’ sight
New MH1 Holo Sight – Alternative Holo that offers a clean sight and new reticule.
New ACOG (1.5x Scope) – An ACOG with short-to-medium range magnification
New Scope (2.0 Scope) – With medium range magnification

MODIFIED SIGHTS

2.5x ACOG – Zoom level changed.
3.0x Scope – No longer a unique option, and will be an option for most DMRs (depending on balancing needs)

REDISTRIBUTION OF SIGHTS

With the introduction of new sights and scopes, we’ll be redistributing them based on operator, gameplay, and balancing needs.

PLAYER COMFORT

MINIMUM MMR GAIN/LOSS

Winning/Losing a ranked match will now give a minimum of 25 +/- MMR gain or loss. We’ve also tweaked the MMR gain/loss distribution to prevent diminishing MMR returns for players who play lots of ranked games.

IN-GAME REPORT NOTIFICATIONS

You will now receive in-game notifications after a player that you reported is sanctioned. These will replace the ‘Thank you’ emails for reporting a banned player. Play nice. Play fair. Report those that don’t.

VOTE-TO-KICK REMOVAL (LATER IN THE SEASON)

Later in the season, we’ll be removing vote-to-kick from Quick Match—the only playlist which had this feature. We’ve been monitoring the use of vote-to-kick and have found that it has since strayed from its original intent, leaning towards a more toxicity-related use case. With the numerous RFF conditions in place, as well as the improved player-reporting panel, we feel the original need for vote-to-kick should be fulfilled by these other options for reporting toxic players instead. We strongly encourage you to report toxic players via the in-game reporting panel so that they can be sanctioned.

CASTER HUD

A new player card is present at the bottom-center of the screen that will help viewers swiftly notice which player they’re spectating. This is extremely useful, especially when switching quickly between players’ views.
Player’s life bar has new feedback to easily spot players taking damage
Activating and deactivating the defuser has a new VFX to make this action more noticeable when it occurs during the round
Drone Info is now present in the player card even if the operator is dead or in the DBNO state
Abilities and gadgets have new VFX for their states when they are ready, active, cool-down, etc.
Hostage and Secure Area game modes are now shown as feedback in the HUD

GAME HEALTH

GADGET DEPLOYMENT REFACTOR

Moving forward with our push for behavioral consistency, we’ve built further on our Y4S4 projectile map asset destruction changes and brought it to deployable.

To make gadget deployment behavior more predictable and consistent, deployable gadgets will now either destroy fragile/smaller map assets when deployed on them (paintings/posters), or deploy without impediment on normal textured surfaces (paneled walls/carpets).

ADS SENSITIVITY SYSTEM

Players now have the option to customize ADS sensitivity in the Options menu. With the ADS Sensitivity System, ADS is more consistent across all sight/scope magnifications. You can customize sensitivity levels per zoom level according to your personal preference by selecting the ‘Advanced’ option in the Options menu.

VAULT DETECTION

Improvement of the vault detection system will make vaulting smoother, easier, and make vault behavior more consistent.

RFF + HOSTAGE RULES CHANGES

We’ve updated the RFF rules around hostage to be more consistent and transparent to prevent ambiguity and abuse.

MMR ROLLBACK CAP

The cap for MMR rollback has been raised from your max MMR for the season to your max MMR + 200. We hope this will give a bit more flexibility for MMR rollback and reduce some of the frustrations surrounding it.

SOUND REFACTORING

We have begun the process of refactoring our sound system, which will essentially repackage the way sounds are stored and connected to the game. For more information on what that means and how it will improve our sound system, please see Top Issues & Community Concerns

No word yet on when we’ll see Operation Shadow Legacy drop on PC and consoles, but once we do, we’ll let our readers know.

Predator Hunting Grounds Crossplay Coming in Next Update

Developer Illfonic has announced that Predator Hunting Grounds crossplay is incoming in this month’s patch! The Predator Hunting Grounds next update, which is the August update, is set to be released this August 28. and aside from crossplay, will come with other stuff as well.

On August 28, the studio will drop what it calls the “2.0 Patch” which will feature quality of life bug fixes and of course, crossplay support. There will also be new in-game cosmetics available as well, though for a fee, of course.

We want to thank the community for their patience and support while we waded through the technical needs to make this happen. In addition, like every free update there are some great in-game items coming too. The Classic Combistick and Wrist Launcher from the City Hunter content is now unlockable to everyone; there is a large Fireteam Supply Drop including the OWLF Assault Rifle, the Anti-Cloaking Grenade, UAV Scanner, and the Self Revive Syrette; and a Field Locker Update with 3 new Predator Masks, a new Fireteam Ballistic Mask, and other new tints and shaders.*

For those looking forward to new modes and maps, Illfonic has confirmed we’ll see that in the September update! Both will, of course, be free.

Once the update is out, we’ll let our readers know ASAP.

M.U.T.E. Protocol Should Not Be a Part of Mainstream Rainbow Six Siege

The current Rainbow Six Siege event, M.U.T.E. Protocol, is a fantastic blend of Siege gameplay with some completely bonkers mechanics. However, it’s good that it’s just a limited time event. The new game mode and map are the most stylish things the game has ever seen, but they can’t be a part of mainstream Rainbow Six Siege.

Exploitable Elevator Shaft

One of the biggest issues with M.U.T.E. Protocol comes right at the centre of the 80s sci-fi version of the Tower map. This is where the elevator shaft is located, and where I’d say that 80 percent of the action happens in each match. For Attackers, this is the shaft that you need to throw your drone down in order to get it to one of the three key points that need to be hacked. For Defenders, this is just one of the places that you can teleport to, since there’s a camera that looks out into it. Defenders also generally camp the doors of the elevator.

While it’s been fine sniping enemies as both an Attacker and a Defender, this key part of the map is just too easily exploitable to be part of mainstream Rainbow Six Siege. Every map must be carefully balanced, or exploits will be taken advantage of, to the point that they’re the full focus of every match. Unfortunately that’s exactly what has happened here. This version of Tower is incredible, don’t get me wrong. It’s like being in in a new casino in some sort of science fiction movie. But this glaringly obvious hole in the map’s design would drive the community crazy if it was going to stick around for much longer.

Who Goes There?

The second issue with M.U.T.E. Protocol is the teleporting itself. As an Attacker, you throw a drone and disappear. You are that drone. You can then drive it around, choosing to teleport back into reality once you’ve driven the drone to a point that you want to jump out in. As a Defender, you can disappear into the code at the touch of the button. Now you’re just a signal watching the cameras, and can emerge at any of them when you choose to. This is a fantastic twist on Rainbow Six Siege, because you can’t chase or track enemies very well, if at all, anymore. However, it’s also one of the largest problems that the game mode would have if it became a mainstream Siege mode.

Every time a new player starts out in M.U.T.E. Protocol, you can tell because of the number of team kills. It’s so scary when you see someone teleport into existence near you, and causes every player to immediately go on the offensive, shooting the intruder. The thing is, that intruder is almost always on your team. The teleportation takes some getting used to, it’s never going to be pleasant to see an Operator suddenly appear in your peripheral vision. But if this did become a mainstream Siege mode, it would be ripe with players getting banned for deliberate team kills.

I myself have killed more members of my own team in the short time this game mode has been active than I have in my entire time with the game overall. I think this is true of most players, and it’s infuriating. I know that Ubisoft likes to bring us new and intersting game modes to try out, but this one feels like the QA Testers jut had a day off. This was also evident in the fact that the mode was removed for a week following a colossal bug that somehow got missed.

Overall, I think M.U.T.E. Protocol has been a fantastic experience. The Siege community has definitely enjoyed the cosmetics, which are easily the best the game has ever seen. On the whole though, this game mode needs to go right back to the drawing board, and come back with a new map, and some sort of team shielding.

Destiny 2 Content Vault (DCV) Explained, Activities to Be Affected Listed

In case you didn’t know, Bungie will be introducing the concept of the Destiny 2 Content Vault (DCV) once Year 4 of Destiny 2 starts this November 10. According to the studio, this will allow them to add new content, bring back some of Destiny’s “greatest hits from the past,” and support Destiny 2 for years to come.

As a reminder, when November 10 rolls in (Year 4), Io, Titan, Mercury and Leviathan will enter the Destiny Content Vault to make space for Cosmodrome’s returen and Europa’s debut. If you’re confused or have questions about the DCV, you’re not alone and Bungie knows it.

Bungie has made a handy list of which activities are entering the DCV, what strikes will be available come Year 4, and more! As a rule of thumb, Bungie says this about the DCV:

Most questions are answered by this rule of thumb, “When a destination goes into the DCV, so too do its PvE activities and associated rewards.” But there are some edge cases and we want to be crystal clear with players about the details of what’s staying and what’s going so there is no confusion, and everyone can prepare.

Destiny 2 Content Vault:

Core Activities:

Up first are the core repeatable activities of Destiny 2: strikes, Crucible, Gambit, raids, and dungeons.

Strikes

This one is covered entirely by the standard Vaulting rule of thumb. As a destination is Vaulted, its strikes enter the DCV.
Available Strikes on November 10 Moving into the DCV
EDZ

  • The Arms Dealer
  • Lake of Shadows
Io

  • The Pyramidion
  • The Festering Core
Nessus

  • Inverted Spire
  • Exodus Crash

  • Will of Crota
Europa

  • [Redacted]

*Destiny’s Devil’s Lair and Fallen S.A.B.E.R. are coming out of the Vault in Year 4.

Gambit and Gambit Prime

As a reminder, Gambit and Gambit Prime will be merging into a single experience when Year 4 kicks off on November 10.  The new version of Gambit will be similar to Gambit Prime as a single round face off with tweaked Blockers, heavier mote drain, and some changes to the Primeval fight. We will give more details on these updates before the revamped mode goes live next Season.
Unlike strikes and other PvE content, the Year 4 Gambit playlist map selection is a “best of” list (and is one of those edge cases we mentioned above). We felt it was important to keep the select Gambit maps in rotation for the best competitive play (regardless of their destination’s fictional state).
Available Gambit Maps on November 10 Moving into the DCV
  • Emerald Coast (EDZ)
  • Legions Folly (Nessus)
  • Deep Six (Titan)
  • New Arcadia (Mars)
  • Cathedral of Scars (Dreaming City)
  • Kell’s Grave (Tangled Shore)
Note: As we perform maintenance on the activity, Gambit Prime armor perks will be deprecated. We are exploring ways to rebalance and reintroduce some of these perks as armor mods in the future. Alongside these changes, we’ll be rotating some maps into the DCV, while retaining popular arenas for the mode.

Crucible

Like Gambit, the new Crucible map playlist will be a curated “best of” mix and will be pulled from both Destiny 1 and 2’s legacy. Here is a look at the planned rotation in Year 4 as well as the maps being Vaulted.
Available PvP Maps on November 10 Moving into the DCV
  • Destiny
      • Bannerfall
      • Exodus Blue
      • Rusted Lands
      • Twilight Gap
  • Destiny 2
      • Altar of Flame
      • The Anomaly
      • The Burnout
      • Cauldron
      • Convergence
      • The Dead Cliffs
      • Distant Shore
      • Endless Vale
      • The Fortress
      • Fragment
      • Javelin-4
      • Midtown
      • Pacifica
      • Radiant Cliffs
      • Widow’s Court
      • Wormhaven
  • Meltdown
  • Solitude
  • Retribution
  • The Citadel
  • Emperor’s Respite
  • Equinox
  • Eternity
  • Firebase Echo
  • Gamber’s Ruin
  • Legion’s Gulch
  • Vostok
As Year 4 starts, we’re also taking the opportunity to focus the Crucible experience by reducing the number of PvP playlists and modes to those that receive the most play. This will increase the matchmaking pools for the remaining playlists and make it easier to find matches with better connections. We’ll have a full preview of Crucible changes later this Season, but here’s a preview of modes that will be active, and modes that will be transitioning into the DCV:
Available PvP Modes on November 10 Moving into the DCV
  • Rumble
  • Clash
  • Control
      • Iron Banner Control
  • Elimination
      • Trials of Osiris
  • Showdown
  • Survival
  • Mayhem Clash
  • Supremacy
  • Countdown
  • Lockdown
  • Breakthrough
  • Doubles
  • Momentum Control*
  • Scorched*

Trials of Osiris Note

In case it’s not clear from the note above, the Trials of Osiris experience is not impacted by other content moving into the DCV this year. The Lighthouse will continue to be available to those who are able to complete a Flawless passage.

Raids and Dungeons

No dungeons will be rotating into the DCV this November, as all dungeon-hosting destinations will remain active in the game during Year 4. Note that the Prophecy dungeon will become temporarily unavailable for a brief period to allow our team to make a necessary technical update. Expect details on dates and timing soon.
Available Dungeons on November 10 Moving into the DCV
  • Shattered Throne (Dreaming City)
  • Pit of Heresy (Moon)
  • Prophecy*
  • None
Like strikes, raids follow the simple Vaulting rule: as a destination enters the DCV, so too do its raids.
Available Raids on November 10 Moving into the DCV
  • [Redacted]
  • Last Wish (Dreaming City)
  • Garden of Salvation (Black Garden)
  • Leviathan
  • Eater of Worlds (Leviathan)
  • Spire of Stars (Leviathan)
  • Scourge of the Past (Last City)
  • Crown of Sorrows (Leviathan)
Anticipating players would want to grab the coveted raid rewards and Triumphs before they enter the Vault. This year’s Moments of Triumph currently features the five raids being added to the DCV with the reward lockouts removed to make grinding them extra… well, rewarding. If you’re looking to earn your Raid Ring, Moments of Triumph Seal, or just finish collecting the last few items for your collection, you have the rest of the Season to jump in with your friends and close out strong.
We also plan to bring the Vault of Glass out of the DCV and into Destiny 2 for the first time at some point during Year 4.

Completing Your Collection

Exotic Quests

As content enters the DCV, there will be some Exotic quests that can obviously no longer be completed in their original forms. Those quests will be retired on November 10 and incomplete progress abandoned.
If you want to acquire these Exotics via their original quests, do so prior to the end of the Season of Arrivals:
  • Sturm
  • MIDA Multi-tool
  • Rat King
  • Legend of Acrius
  • Sleeper Simulant
  • Polaris Lance
  • Worldline Zero
  • Ace of Spades
  • The Last Word
  • Le Monarque
  • Jotunn
  • Izanagi’s Burden
  • Thorn
  • Lumina
  • Truth
  • Bad Juju
None of these legacy Exotics are being retired from Destiny 2. Their original acquisition journeys are simply entering the DCV alongside their supporting destination and activity content.
We still want new and existing players to be able to earn these legacy Exotics, so starting in Year 4, any Exotic tied to a quest that has been Vaulted (like those listed above) will now become available through a new Memorial kiosk situated among the Vault kiosks in the Tower. We’ll have more information later this Season on how the Exotic Archive works, and how to earn any Exotics that you don’t get your hands on before Year 4.
Now, you may be asking “Hey, what about catalysts previously acquired through content that’s now in the DCV?” Here is a list of catalysts that are going into the DCV and will be unavailable to earn starting in Season 12.
Available Catalysts on November 10 Moving into the DCV
  • Ace of Spades
  • Black Talon
  • Borealis
  • Cerberus+1
  • Coldheart
  • The Colony
  • Crimson
  • D.A.R.C.I.
  • Eriana’s Vow

  • Worldline Zero*

There’s also an FAQ about it which you can read about here.

Well, there you go, Guardians! Hope that answers anything DCV related. It seems

Microsoft Unveils New Xbox Series X Dashboard

Microsoft showed off the first look at the new dashboard designs that will be pushed out to all Xbox mobile apps, Gamepass for PC and the Xbox family of consoles.  The design which Microsoft is calling “The New Xbox Experience” brings a slick new look across all Xbox platforms, new features, plus faster load times. The main aspect Microsoft is touting is how user friendly the new design is for the dashboard. Text is more readable, elements on screen are easier to understand at a glance, and accomplishing your tasks is faster than ever.

The Series X only features come with the Xbox Velocity Architecture which allows everything on the Series X to launch much faster. The Home screen will load more than 50 percent faster when you boot your Xbox, and is almost 30 percent faster to load when you’re returning from a game. The Xbox store also has a new look that speeds everything up, all while making things quicker and easier to find. The mobile app also has a much nicer look to it that brings it in line with both the console and PC looks, allowing players to continue conversations, achievement tracking and even launch Xbox parties right from the app.

Xbox says that Insider program members can expect to see these updates roll out in the next few weeks, while around November everyone else will see the updates come to all platforms to coincide with the Series X launch. Gamers can expect any feedback that they give towards the new look will be put towards continuing to update the look and features of the Xbox experience.

While we still don’t know about the exact launch date of the Xbox Series X, we are expecting a November launch according what Microsoft has revealed recently.

Hellpoint Review – Cosmic Space Madness

Who doesn’t like the idea of a Dark Souls game set in space? Well, that’s exactly what Hellpoint is, though the question is whether or not this is a good Souls clone or just another shameless cash grab at the genre. Read on to see what we think in our full Hellpoint review.

A Gorgeous World Lost to Its Size

Hellpoint takes place on a space station called Irid Novo. You play as a 3D printed humanoid who’s tasked by a mysterious voice called the Author to solve what has happened on the space station. An event known as “The Merge” has caused the station to be overran by demonic creatures and cosmic gods. It’s a pretty awesome premise if you ask me, and much like other souls game, Hellpoint ensures that it’s world has richness in its lore. Nothing is completely spelled out as you’ll find an array of text hints and NPC’s dialogue, leaving you to piece everything together. Yet despite areas having plenty to tell, I did feel that keeping track of the story to be rather difficult as there really wasn’t’ much of a sense of direction.

It’s a large space station filled with tons of areas to explore, yet part ways through I was constantly asking myself why I was in a specific area. I found myself hunting down bosses in an area and earning their key item without actually knowing what they were for.

Hellpoint isn’t a graphically demanding title either, but what it lacks makes up in it’s really unique environments. In my original Hellpoint preview I discussed how Hellpoint shared similarities with Dead Space and other horror titles. Enemies look grotesque with their disfigurements, and the environment are greatly influenced by the late H. G. Giger. I’m a sucker for when it comes to anything influenced by H. R. Giger as the mixture of both humans and machines usually produce some of the most beautiful work ever seen.

The cold biomechanical relationships are clear in Hellpoint as structures appear to be living, yet at the same time they aren’t. And despite being a space station, it’s a rather large one with diverse environments. I wasn’t expecting to see a bunch of vegetation throughout the game, but it’s there along with a handful of other cool environments. Ten the usage of coloring; while this is a dark looking game, there are some vibrant neon colors that get used quite a bit, more so in the breathtaking moments. Near the start, there is a set of blast doors covering the outside windows that can be opened. Once opened, you are treated with perhaps one of the most astonishing view in a video game that I have ever seen. It truly is a sight to behold.

It’s Dark Souls, But In Space.

Now of course this being a Souls clone the obvious elephant in the room is, how well does it play? Outside of the extremely poor frames-per-second (I’ll get to later), Hellpoint actually plays very well. In terms of combat speed, it’s slightly faster than that in Dark Souls, though not enough to really differentiate from it. Heavy and light attacks are present, as are shields, and dodging. There is a leveling up system that works off a currency known as axioms, which are gained when killing an enemy and lost when dying.  Leveling is done at checkpoint locations known as breaches, which function similar to bonfires. Honestly, it’s clear that Hellpoint doesn’t shy from the fact that it’s a Souls rip-off, but that’s a badge that it wears proudly as it’s every bit of fun one could expect.

There’s a decent amount of difficulty offered from the enemies and bosses that bring much frustration. Frustration that’s turned into satisfaction once overcoming them. It’s the big reason why so many are in love with the Soul games to begin with and Hellpoint certainly doesn’t skimp out on that. This does go without saying, however, that Hellpoint does offer some different mechanics.

For one, the healing item is not charged by visiting breaches but instead by killing enemies. I would say this adds a bit of a difficulty because now you are forced to face enemies, rather than speed running through sections just to heal. The next is how enemies spawn. Rather than endlessly spawn after each death, they are now on a timer. So levels are easier to clear, at least when it comes to hordes and dealing with tougher enemies. Breaches also allow you to make areas more difficult rather than waiting for NG+ if you are up for the challenge.

I suppose the biggest difference has to be with how co-op is handled. Playing with a friend is surprisingly super easy as all it takes is entering another players room via search function. There’s also split screen co-op, which is just awesome for a game like this. However, this is where we saw the most issues occur in addition to the ones in solo play.

On the PS4, the framerate is damn near unbearable. Right off the bat there was a great deal of dipping that never seemed to improve throughout our entire campaign. At times it got so bad that it looked like we were watching a clip show, I just had to turn it off. The recent patch didn’t seem to help much with this either. I didn’t have this issue during my original preview, but that was also on a PC that is considerably more beefier than consoles. The co-op experience didn’t fare any better either as we ran into spawn bugs, more frequent graphical issues, and even worse frames-per-second.

I think my general experience with Hellpoint has been a pleasant one. The idea of having a Souls style game set in space is a pretty kickass one if you ask me, though the technical issues and the way levels are structured is what really holds Hellpoint back. There isn’t really much of anything new it does for the genre, outside of its setting, but it’s still a fun time killer, especially for Souls fan. I will say for those on PS4 you should perhaps wait until more performance patches are issued before attempting. Otherwise, I would say get the PC version if you are wanting a more stable experience.

SCORE: 7/10

Pros:

  • Beautiful sceneries throughout the campaign.
  • Enemy’s designs are fantastic as are the bosses.
  • Tons of lore.
  • Fun gameplay, any Souls veteran will feel right at home.
  • Split screen and co-op are easy to use.

Cons:

  • Terrible framerate on the PS4.
  • Levels are far too large with no real sense of direction.
  • Co-op is extremely buggy.

A review copy of Hellpoint was provided by the publisher. Game tested on the PS4 Pro. You can read SP1st and MP1st’s review and scoring policy right here. Hellpoint is now available on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Additionally, we are publishing a playlist update later today to do the following:

Black Ops Cold War SBMM to Be the Same as Modern Warfare, Official Artwork Released

With yesterday’s official announcement of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, it seems more details about the game is slowly rising to the top, though unofficially. If you were hoping the Black Ops Cold War SBMM (skill-based matchmaking) wouldn’t be as strict as that in Modern Warfare, well, you’re out of luck.

Over on Twitter, YouTuber LongeSensation who now goes by his real name Tom Henderson has divulged more Black Ops Cold War info via his sources. amd one of the topics touched upon is SBMM.

https://twitter.com/_TomHenderson_/status/1296479171485618177

In addition to that, Henderson mentions how Warzone will get a new map but the weapons, vehicles and progression will remain intact.

https://twitter.com/_TomHenderson_/status/1296513322540564481

He adds that Black Ops Cold War weapons will be added periodically through game updates and Battle Passes.

https://twitter.com/_TomHenderson_/status/1296512338854641666

Bear in mimd, nothing here is official, so take it with a grain of salt. That said, I don’t expect Treyarch to acknowledge how SBMM will work in Black Ops Cold War. I’d love to be proven wrong, but I doubt they will since it’ll open up a can of worms that it might not be able to close.

For something more official, Treyarch has revealed official artwork for Black Ops Cold War! the studio tweeted it out, but we embedded it in the post for an easier view.

Stay tuned for more Black Ops Cold War news as we’re just geting started! The full reveal is happening next week on August 26.
