Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Next DLC Fighter Revealed, Adds Minecraft Characters Steve, Alex, and More

The Super Smash Bros. Ultimate next DLC fighter coming to the game has been revealed, and it’s Steve, his female counterpart Alex, and the monster palette swaps Zombie and Enderman from the popular sandbox game Minecraft.

Revealed during a special announcement trailer hosted by Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai, Minecraft is the latest video game franchise to be added to the Smash Bros. Ultimate all-star line-up, and the second DLC fighter for Fighters Pass Vol. 2 following ARMS character Min Min.

After the trailer reveal, Sakurai went on to describe how in demand bringing Minecraft was to SSBU:

“Yes, that’s right. Minecraft, the best-selling game in the world, is coming to the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate game. Even I didn’t think this day would come.” Sakurai said after the reveal trailer. “When thinking about new fighters for this game, we don’t just pick my favorites or draw from a hat. More often than not, these discussions start by Nintendo approaching me with an idea. Of course, if I can’t do that idea justice, I tell them no. But then, someone from Nintendo will come to my workplace and say… “Mr. Sakurai… Surely you can put Minecraft in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate?” while peering at me over their glasses. They make it sound easy. I guess they think this all happens by magic or something. Don’t they know what kind of game Minecraft is? The wizardry required to make it work in this game… It’s impossible! So, I laid it out straight for them. I said, “Yes, I can do it.”

Check out our last article on Super Smash Bros. Update 8.1.0’s changes to the game. No release date has been given yet for Minecraft’s Steve and Alex, but expect that reveal and more from Sakurai and the team when they present more information this October 3 on a special direct presentation in YouTube.

DEPSTECH HD 1080P Webcam and 2K QHD Webcam Comparative Review – The Eye of the Beholder

Recently I had the opportunity to work with two different webcams in Depstech’s line of products. These being the HD 1080P pictured on the left above, and the 2K QHD on the right. While these two cameras are currently the same price and seem to have similar features, it is the small things that matter when it comes to making these kinds of decisions. I’ve decided to write a comparative review as I imagine that’s how many of us end up buying webcams and other tech accessories anyway. So let’s jump right in.

The HD 1080P has a distinctive silver casing on the sides and back.

It should be said first off that both of these cameras are excessively easy to use. Both of them come out the box ready to plug and play. This brings us to the first major difference, the 2K QHD USB has male sides on both ends and can be disconnected completely while the HD 1080P has the camera end of the USB hardwired into it’s back. I tend to prefer wires that can be used for multiple devices if need be, though I see the value of never losing your power cord. So I’m going to side with the 2K QHD on this one.

The 2K QHD is wider and shorter overall.

Both cameras were found and functional on my computer within just a few seconds of being plugged in and didn’t require any downloads to begin operation. I found that the base of the HD 1080P stayed in place on my monitor slightly easier. This is likely due to it being a few grams liter than the 2K QHD, which feels heavier and sturdier internally. The webcams each have different finished on them, with the 2K QHD having a somewhat reflective gloss on the faceplate around the lens and a smooth back, whereas the HD 1080P is mostly a lightly textured plastic and has a bezzeled double triangle piece surrounding the lens, reducing the amount of potential smudge on the faceplate. Aesthetically and physically, the HD 1080P feels tougher and more capable of surviving damage whereas the 2K QHD feels more expensive and delicate, while paradoxically falling easier. I tend to prefer the former so I’m giving the point to the HD 1080P. But your preference may vary.

As far as the image quality of the lenses themselves: Both webcams deliver a picture with serviceable fidelity. These are not studio quality but at their shared value price of $29.99 they are solid pieces of hardware at that price point. Comparing the two webcams as can be expected the 2K QHD has a higher quality image overall with crisper lines and less motion blur. It is also a much wider lens, capturing a bigger area than the HD 1080P. This is a good and a bad thing as I found myself not always inclined to share everything in the room behind me with those on the other end. So keeping that in mind, I’m still going to give the point on the image and lens to the 2K QHD.

Based on these three Criteria, I would probably recommend getting the 2K QHD as it has slightly better functionality, even if it’s base isn’t quite as secure. Both are acceptable and perfectly functional value price webcams. But for my money I would probably recommend the 2K QHD if you have the option.

____________________________________________________________________

A review unit of both the 2K QHD and the HD 1080P were provided by the manufacturer. Click here to read SP1st and MP1st’s review and scoring policy. Both cameras are now available wherever webcams are sold.

Black Ops Cold War Zombies Trailer and Gameplay Info Crawl Out

As promised, Treyarch has unveiled our first look at Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies today! The debut Black Ops Cold War Zombies trailer embedded below is over eight minutes long, and gives us a good look at the upcoming PvE mode.

No Black Ops game is complete without Zombies, and this four-person co-op mode is set to take veterans and newcomers alike on a bold and terrifying journey that expands on an iconic part of the Call of Duty franchise. Just like Multiplayer, squads in Zombies can be formed across platforms and generations, marking the first time in franchise history this co-op mode is available via cross-play and cross-gen.

A Connected, Thrilling Experience Across Modes and Platforms

Whether you’re a long-time Zombies veteran who also plays Multiplayer, or a first-time Call of Duty player completely new to Zombies, expect to drop into the fun faster than ever before with friends and the greater community, no matter the platform or generation you play on.

Here are just some of the updates to Zombies in Black Ops Cold War:

Cross-Play and Cross-Gen

Just like Multiplayer, squads in Zombies can be formed across platforms and generations, marking the first time in franchise history this co-op mode is available via cross-play.

Battle Pass Progression and Loadouts

Players will now advance through the Battle Pass with time played in Zombies, similar to Multiplayer and Call of Duty: Warzone™.  Requiem team members can also start the match with their Gunsmith-crafted weapon of choice via loadout support.

Weapon Rarity

In addition to the return of the Pack-a-Punch machine to transform your weapon, all weapons will now have a rarity associated with them. The higher the rarity, the greater the damage output and attachments for the weapon. For the first time, this will allow any weapon in the game to be sustainable in later rounds. This also adds more variety and fun to finding new weapons through Wall Buys and the Mystery Box.

Field Upgrades

Outside of weaponry, players can deploy Field Upgrades as proactive abilities that add another layer to squad-based tactics.

Charge them up by killing zombies, then deploy them in times of desperate need. From offensive buffs to abilities that aid in evasion or healing and reviving, these Field Upgrades are made to fit numerous playstyles and situations.

Equipment

Around the map, you can craft and find lethal, tactical, and support equipment.

Lethal and tactical equipment are similar to the equipment found in Multiplayer, like Frag Grenades, while support equipment is home to high-powered offensive weaponry. This slot could be where you deploy Grenade Launchers, Sentry Turrets, Explosive Bows and even Chopper Gunners – all tools that can deliver a massive power spike when your squad needs it most.

Perks

Classic Zombies Perks are back with a reimagined Cold War aesthetic, including the return of timeless favorites like Juggernog and Speed Cola.

There’s no longer a limit to how many different Perks you can consume, so go ahead and crack open a six-pack, if you have the points to do so.

Exfil

Instead of perishing to the horde, Black Ops Cold War Zombies provides a new option to escape with your life when you’re feeling overrun… if you dare.

If the whole squad is in trouble, you can opt to exfiltrate the undead combat zone via helicopter. Although zombie spawns will be dialed up to 11, you should expect to earn some rewards if your squad completes this final push to survive.

Don’t forget, the Black Ops Cold War beta is set to commence next week! Here’s the full schedule.

With September ending today, Sony has announced the PlayStation Plus free games October 2020 selection. For October, players will be able to download Need for Speed: Payback, and Vampyr starting October 6.

PlayStation Plus Free Games October 2020 Titles:

Need for Speed: Payback

Survive thrilling heist missions, partake in metal-crunching car battles, perform dazzling setpieces and more in this four-wheeled action blockbuster. Vampyr

Life is Strange developer Dontnod Entertainment challenges you to embrace the darkness with this 1918-set, third-person action RPG with deep narrative choices. Play a doctor turned vampire ghosting through a London gripped by violence and fear. Use your supernatural abilities, as well as man-made tools and weapons to fight or flee the forces of evil and vampire hunters. Save the city’s populace or feed on them to become stronger, but giving in to your bloodlust can have grave consequences…

Both titles will be available from October 6 to November 2. Players can pick up this month’s PS Plus games (PUBG and Street Fighter 5) until October 5.

Rainbow 6 Siege Update 1.95 September 30 Pushed Out on PS4

Rainbow Six (Rainbow 6) Siege Operators, Ubisoft has released the Rainbow 6 Siege update 1.95 September 30 patch on the PS4! Note that maintenance on the PS4 version was initiated today and should be over by the time you read this.

Given we got the Rainbow 6 Siege Y5S3.1 patch last week, don’t expect any major changes.

Rainbow 6 Siege Update 1.95 September 30 patch notes:

Ubisoft has not released any official notes, as the patch has been rolled out mostly for server rework more than anything else given the PS4 version of Siege has had issues the other day. This was the message posted yesterday on the Ubisoft forums.

Hello everyone. We’re aware of an issue currently affecting connectivity on Rainbow Six Siege and For Honor and are working towards resolving this. We apologize for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your patience. Please be sure to check this thread for future updates. Thanks.

UPDATE: This issue has now been resolved. Thank you again for your patience. If you continue to experience an issue please contact our support team at support.ubi.com.

The latest tweet mentions that there is infrastructure maintenance, and that’s it.

We’re on the lookout for any gameplay-related changes, and will update the post if we spot any. If you notice anything that got fixed (maybe the blue screen crashing issue some are experiencing), let us know down in the comments.

Gran Turismo 7 Frame Rate Targeting 60fps With Ray Tracing & 4K HDR

Sony has detailed that Gran Turismo 7 frame rate will be targeting 60 frames-per-second (fps) along with 4K HDR support and ray tracing.

Found on the official Gran Turismo 7 website, some fresh new details on it’s key features have been outlined. One of these reveals that the team is currently targeting 60FPS (with a *, meaning subject to change).

  • Stunning visuals: Marvel at rendering quality through ray tracing, with support for 4K, HDR, and a targeted 60 FPS frame rate.*
  • Fast loading: Go to race events quickly, gather in lobbies and receive friend invites extremely quickly with an ultra-high speed SSD. Select from a huge variety of cars with no load times.
  • Adaptive triggers: Feel the contrast in brake pedal weight at different sensitivity ranges, the vibrations from the ABS and variation in throttle pedal weight on different types of cars.
  • Haptic feedback: Experience the feeling of tire contact with the road, and subtle bumps on the road surface.
  • Tempest 3D AudioTech: Sense the position of other cars and drivers around you through sound. Hear clear 3D Audio positioning and spatial expression of depth and height in replays.

Additionally, Kazunori Yamauchi , the head of Polyphony Digital has gone on record to say that the team team wants Gran Turismo 7 frame-rate to achieve 120FPS and even 240FPS. Of course with FPS that high, we aren’t expecting all the graphical features such as native 4K and ray tracing to be included, though they may end up surprising us given Sony’s first party studios history in doing just that.

No details as to when Gran Turismo 7 will be releasing, though given past Gran Turismo development and release schedules, we may be waiting a bit longer than we want. Hopefully that isn’t the case given the team has had assets prepared since development of Gran Turismo Sports (and before). If you want to keep tabs on the latest GT7 news, be sure to keep an eye on our official Gran Turismo 7 hub page.

The Elder Scrolls Online Update 2.09 September 30 Patch Released (Update)

Bethesda has released The Elder Scrolls Online update 2.09 September 30 patch and it’s live now for consoles! Given we’re getting the big Markarth DLC on November 10, don’t expect anything big from this patch in terms of content.

The Elder Scrolls Online Update 2.09 September 30 patch notes:

k9aw0rqgg6i7.png
General

  • Fixed an issue where mount stamina could drain irregularly fast in some cases.
  • Fixed an issue where you could not progress the Vampire skill line while feeding if you had Radiant Magelight slotted. The light was just too brilliant for your dark deeds.
  • Fixed an issue where engaging in combat with some Lich monsters could cause your game to lock up or crash.
  • Added some extra preventative measures to prevent pets from attacking innocents when they shouldn’t be.

  • Fixed an issue that prevented you from dueling in Stillwaters Retreat.

General

  • Fixed a crash that could occur when closing the game client.
  • Fixed an issue that caused a minimum loading time of 10 seconds. Now, if a short load can be completed under 10 seconds, it will be. Longer load times are unaffected.
  • Fixed an issue where your game could crash while in the Crown Crate menu.
  • Fixed a rare crash that could occur when loading into the world.

  • Fixed an issue with monsters in relation to how they evaluate targets. They will now react to players much more predictably, especially in situations where a large number of players and monsters are located (such as in dungeons or trials).

  • Fixed an issue where the in-game UI text would not scale correctly based on your set custom scale.

Again, we’ll be updating the post once maintenance is over or once Bethesda has released the console-specific changes, so make sure to check back soon.

Update: We’ve updated the post with the official patch notes. While the console changes rolled out today are similiar to the one released for PC last week, we still updated it point-for-point to make sure it’s accurate.

Marvel’s Avengers Update 1.09 September 30 Rolled Out

It seems Crystal Dynamics has released an unannounced update for Marvel’s Avengers, as the Marvel’s Avengers update 1.09 September 30 patch is out now for the PS4! This is a super small download clocking in at just 100MB, so don’t expect any major sweeping changes or content.

Marvel’s Avengers Update 1.09 September 30 patch notes:

Unfortunately, Crystal Dynamics seems to be continuing their pattern of releasing the patch first, and then releasing the official notes hours after.

On the game’s subreddit, one poster said that players are now able ro refesh weekly and daily challenges after you’ve conpleted one of them. Once you’ve gotten a check mark in the lower right corner of the box, you’re able to refesh to get another challenge. In the last patch, this was disabled by Crsytal Dynamics for tech issues.

Don’t forget to check back regularly as we’ll be updating the post once we know the official details or find out any specific fix that came with this.

If you spot any specific gameplay-related fix, let us know what you find down in the comments.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate to Get EA Play Starting Nov. 10

Microsoft is really pushing hard for people to sign up to the Xbox Game Pass, and just to sweeten the deal, the previously announced partnership between Xbox and EA for EA Play now has a launch date, as the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members will be getting EA Play starting November 10!

There is no additional cost to this, and as one might expect, EA Play is coming to Xbox Series X (and S)! Beginning December, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members will be able to download and play games from the EA Play library on Windows 10 PCs!

In addition to the EA Play announcement, Microsoft touched upon Bethesda’s games coming to Xbox Game Pass as well after the recent acquisition.

Bringing Bethesda Games to Xbox Game Pass

As we shared, Bethesda were early supporters of Xbox Game Pass, and we will be adding Bethesda’s iconic franchises to Xbox Game Pass for console and PC. One of the things that has me most excited is seeing the roadmap with Bethesda’s future games, coming to Xbox console and PC including Starfield, the highly anticipated, new space epic currently in development by Bethesda Game Studios and Doom Eternal, which is coming to Xbox Game Pass on October 1 and for PC later in 2020.

As someone who’s getting an Xbox Series X, I’m definitely excited to hear more games will be available to gamers in one low price. Will we see more gaming companies join the Xbox Game Pass program? I wouldn’t bet against it.

Spellbreak Update 1.08 September 29 Gameplay Changes Now Live

Developer Proletariat has released the Spellbreak update 1.08 September 29 patch, or what it calls “release 1.1,” which includes a host of gameplay changes to the magic-inspired battle royale title. Read on below for the full notes.

Spellbreak Update 1.08 September 29 patch notes:

Gameplay

  • The Lighting Bolts spell’s recovery animation can now be interrupted by casting a sorcery.
  • Fix edge case where reviving or exiling someone could be canceled in order to get faster spell firing.
  • Fixed an issue that caused projectiles to sometimes not register damage even though they hit.

Aim Assist

  • Smoothed out difference in aim assist strength between different framerates.
    • This results in more consistent behavior for all players and eliminates advantages that came from very high framerate.
  • Fixed an exploit where aim assist could be much stronger than intended under certain combinations of distance to target and input sensitivity.
    • This meant it was possible for players under certain circumstances to make their spells incredibly easy to hit. This was mostly clearly seen with the Lightning Gauntlet on PC.
  • Adjusted aim assist values for various console platforms.
  • Aim assist now decreases over distance.
  • Default Look Deadzone setting on Switch is now 0%.
    • This is generally what you want, because deadzones are handled by the OS itself.

Miscellaneous

  • Enabled some extra anti-cheat mechanisms.
  • Game mode now automatically swaps to squad after completing the tutorial.
  • When a player accepts a party invitation while already in a match, they’ll get a UI notification and they can choose to immediately join the lobby.

Windows fixes

  • Fixed a bug that would cause some players to hang on the initial title screen.
  • Fixed graphics settings getting reset to Ultra in some cases, despite the game reporting other values.
  • Fixed a bug that would occasionally cause very long loading times when entering a match.
  • Fixed an issue where the mouse would not come back into focus if the player was using both a controller and mouse to navigate menus.

Switch

  • Fixed cases where players would sometimes get stuck with a black screen during a match.
  • Addressed an issue where players couldn’t load into a lobby with enough time to properly select their drop portal.
  • Switch Pro and third-party controllers no longer send multiple inputs for a single button press.
  • Fixed a bug causing players to sometimes be unable to see disrupted player’s orbs.

Playstation 4

  • Fixed issue where lowest-ping matchmaking region was sometimes not correctly identified.
  • Fixed a crash due to changing languages in the pre-match lobby.
  • Fixed a black screen caused by waking the console up after idling for an hour in rest mode.

Xbox One

  • If an Xbox One player has crossplay disabled in their system settings, Spellbreak will now properly block all interaction with players on other platforms.
  • Recent players in Spellbreak now populate the recent players list tied to your Xbox Live account.
  • Players set to “Friendly only” in their communication settings will no longer have voice chat blocked for their Spellbreak friends.
  • “Ready” button no longer greys out when joining a party through the Xbox shell.
  • Fixed a crash caused by returning to the game after pressing the Home button mid-match.

All Platforms

  • Fixed a netcode issue that resulted in other characters appearing to stutter/jitter or otherwise not to update at full framerate.
    • Note this also caused “weird” aiming offsets that were reported where it felt like your aim was off. Due to this, your muscle memory with different spells may be affected!
  • Players should be able to interact with things after being interrupted while aiming a rune or sorcery.
  • Players should no longer get stuck indefinitely on the reconnect screen after internet connectivity had been lost and restored.
  • Fixed the infinite loading screen when entering invalid account credentials on login.
  • Fixed missing hit sound effect when your damage is buffed.
  • If the same Spellbreak account is used to log in to two machines at the same time, the most recent login will cause the early session to abort to prevent data corruption.
  • Controller vibration settings now correctly apply in game.
  • Fixed issues where item ping indicators would not draw/update correctly.
  • Added in translations for some previously untranslated text.
  • Fixed a bug that could cause quests to disappear from the main menu when restarting the game.
  • Corrected adjective/noun order indicating rarity for latin-based languages on the collection screen.
  • Fixed Mana Vault animations getting out of sync with sound and timer.
  • Fixed issue with Mana Vaults where its pieces would sometimes flicker as the player walked it.
  • Cleaned up some low-resolution textures that could sometimes appear.
  • Menu / UI sound effect volume is now properly controlled the associated volume slider.
  • Fixed a crash caused by repeatedly pressing the confirm button on the squad loading screen.
  • Fixed instances of shadow popping around the map.
  • Fixed a crash caused by viewing an item in the store while the rollover takes effect.
  • Ice Lance should no longer randomly generate a MASSIVE ice bow.
  • Fixed a bug causing 2 players with random outfits equipped to mirror one another’s outfits.
    • Spidermantwinsmeme.png
  • Fixed a crash caused by repeatedly exiling yourself in the tutorial.
    • Why do you keep hitting yourself?!
  • Fixed some chests not being visible on the player’s client.
  • And last but not least, a whole bunch of more rare crashes have been fixed.

If you haven’t downloaded the game yet, go test it out, as not only is it a free-to-play game, it’s actually a good one! Head on over here for our review.
