Respawn Boss Vince Zampella to Lead DICE LA, Working on Unannounced Game

The DICE LA branch is about to see some major changes, as it was announced today that CEO and Co-founder of Respawn Entertainment, Vince Zampella, will be leading the company later this year. For those unaware, DICE LA was formerly Danger Close Games (Medal of Honor Warfighter), which was then rebranded as DICE LA, and was appointed to do support work for DICE Stockholm’s Battlefield games such as Battlefield 4 and so on.

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, it was confirmed that Vince would be taking a leading role at DICE LA as he works towards giving the studio a new image.

We will probably rebrand,” Zampella said in the interview. “We want to give it a new image. We want people to say, ‘This is a destination you can go and make new content.’ I think they’ve kind of gotten the branding that they are the support studio for DICE Stockholm. I think rebranding is important for showing people, ‘Hey! Come work here. We’re going to do some amazing things.’”

He goes on to state the studio will be separate of that from his own (Respawn), and that of DICE Stockholm with the goal to eventually drop the DICE name altogether. This will mark the start of a new journey for the studio as it has also been confirmed that they are working on a new, unannounced title.

Vince Zampella has been a long-time veteran of the gaming industry, most known for his work on the Call of Duty franchise. Since his firing from Infinity Ward back in 2010, Vince has gone on to create a new Studio called Respawn Entertainment and has produced excellent titles such as the Titanfall franchise, Apex Legends, and the latest Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order. He will continue to be a figurehead over at Respawn Entertainment, though the majority of the current titles by the studio have for some time now been overseen by individual department heads.

We ourselves can’t wait to see what the studio has in store for us, although we don’t expect to hear on the title anytime soon.

Modern Warfare More Custom Loadouts Coming Soon, Blue Print Combinations Planned

For those playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare multiplayer, have you ever felt like the game needed more custom loadouts like in past Call of Duty games? Yeah, I thought so. Well, thankfully, Infinity Ward has confirmed that Modern Warfare more custom loadouts are on the way, and might be dropping as soon as the next game update is out!

This was confirmed by Infinity Ward Lead Art Director Joel Emslie over on the Modern Warfare subreddit when he answered a player begging the studio for more Modern Warfare custom loadouts.

You and everyone else that has commented on this are right. Its in mainline back at the studio and weve been tinkering with it. Im not sure which update its in but I think its next. Believe it or not it can cause horrible bugs if not tested properly. Im not certain about all this so don’t get fired up on me if Im wrong. Since I’ve commented here Ill stick with the issue at the studio.

“Just a reminder, time does not allow me to scan the entire sub and acknowledge everything problem, comment, or feedback day to day but I try and help whenever I can.”

That’s definitely good news, right? While no exact date has been given for the next Modern Warfare patch, odds are, it’ll drop sometime this January.

Also of note, if you’re digging Infinity Ward’s blue print system for weapons, the studio has plans to let players combine blue print attachments, and then apply different camos on the weapon. This was once again confirmed by Emslie in answering a player’s question.

At some point in the future we are hoping to let you combine different blue print attachments together to Frankenstein weapons and then apply different camos. Its really buggy though so I dont have an answer as to when we would be able to push out an update for it but we are trying to work the problem.

Not only that, but Emslie also “agreed” on how solid camos like a matte black or red should be part of the gun camos in the game.

Again, there’s no official time frame on when we’re getting blue print combinations, or solid colored camos, but at least we have acknowledgement from the studio that they’re looking at it, no?
In other Modern Warfare news, we ran our ranking piece of the best Call of Duty multiplayer experience of the decade! Go check it out to see where Modern Warfare ended up on.

Best Multiplayer Shooters of the Decade

While we already posted a ranking for the best Call of Duty multiplayer and Battlefield games released this decade, we’re not stopping there. If you’re curious which shooters stood out the most this past decade (2010-2019) for us here on MP1st, then this best multiplayer shooters list should answer that.

Note that this list is NOT ranked in anyway, and is sorted alphabetically. And while we’d love to include every shooting game that made an impact on us, we had to trim it down a bit, or we’d be looking at 20-25 games easy.

Best Multiplayer Shooters of the Decade (2010-2019):

Battlefield 3

Possibly the best Battlefield game of all-time, Battlefield 3 kicks off our list given how it perfectly blended infantry and vehicular combat. Not only that, but it also gave us some of the most memorable maps in Battlefield history, too.

Add in the fantastic gunplay, weapon and character customization, and you have a multiplayer shooter for the ages.

Battlefield 4

Marred initially by a litany of technical issues, Battlefield 4 managed to hit its stride after multiple patches by DICE. Once those were sorted out though, fans were treated to a spectacle never before seen in any multiplayer shooter with DICE’s “levolution” gameplay design for maps.

Of course, any gimmick will lose steam quick if it’s not backed by solid gameplay. Luckily, Battlefield 4 had that in spades. Couple that with a solid progression system, the best gun customization feature in the franchise’s history, the first Battlefield game that allowed 64-player matches on consoles, and you have one of the most memorable shooters of the decade.

bad company 2

Battlefield: Bad Company 2

Alongside Battlefield 3, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is always in the conversation when it comes to the best Battlefield game of all-time. Those who played this gem last generation should know that there’s an endless amount of stuff to love about it. From the best-in-franchise destruction, memorable maps, fast-paced action, unique gadgets and more, Bad Company 2 had it all.

If there’s one Battlefield game that fans want to be remastered or remade, it’s Bad Company 2, and it’s understandable why.

black ops ii

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2

Ask someone now what the best Call of Duty game is of all-time and chances are, you’ll hear Black Ops 2 as part of that discussion. Easily topping our list as the best Call of Duty game this decade, Black Ops 2 is Treyarch’s finest Call of Duty game to date and it’s not even close.

Where to begin? How Treyarch introduced scorestreaks instead of killstreaks thus prioritizing objectives ahead of kills? What about the Pick 10 loadout system that gave players total freedom in how they want to set up their guns, equipment, and more? Mix that with the Call of Duty franchise’s tight gunplay, Treyarch’s fantastically designed three-lane maps, and you have the Call of Duty gumbo that other entries in the franchise can’t even come close to.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3

While Black Ops 2 might be deemed the best Call of Duty this decade (or of all-time), Black Ops 3 easily nabs the best jetpack Call of Duty title. Sure, the game featured Specialists, but it wasn’t as balance breaking as Black Ops 4, and it featured a smooth wall-running movement system that at the time, made gunfights more exciting.

Some people might not remember Black Ops 3 as fondly, but watch gameplay videos of it again, and tell us if there’s a better futuristic Call of Duty game made. Go on, we’ll wait.

destiny 2 update 1.39 patch notes

Destiny

Regardless of how you feel about “live services” games, it’s hard to deny the Destiny franchise’s impact not only on multiplayer shooters but on video games as a whole. In Destiny, Bungie has crafted an ever-living world that not only lets people play online cooperatively, but go against each other as well.

What makes Destiny’s PvP interesting is, players are able to bring their weapons and armors picked up as loot, and bring it into competitive multiplayer matches.

On the PvE front, Destiny proved that shooters need not always be about competitive experiences. It’s one thing to frag people and net a ton of kills against your buddies online, but there’s a different kind of high tackling bosses and missions side by side with friends, and then scoring tons of loot after.

fortnite update 2.51

Fortnite

While Fortnite didn’t invent the battle royale genre, it sure as hell is the most popular one out there today. Epic Games’ free-to-play shooter threw its own twist into the battle royale formula by letting players build structures and cover even while they’re in combat!

Some pundits might see Fortnite as too casual for their liking, but you can’t deny the game’s appeal and how it penetrated even non-gaming culture. Will this game die down eventually? We can’t say for sure, but millions of people can’t be wrong for loving this, right?

GTA Online Ban

Grand Theft Auto Online

Grand Theft Auto Online: The issues that plagued GTA Online from the get-go are well documented, but almost seven years later, it has become the pinnacle of online games. From running heists with friends, racing around fan-made race tracks, or causing chaos in free roam, the ways to make money and make your way to the top of the GTA criminal empire is endless. Some of the many reasons why it’s still a top ten telling game every month.

Halo 5

When it comes to Halo 5, the campaign is easily the weakest in the series, but the multiplayer is top-notch. Taking the next step, Halo 5 MP is fast, fluid, and adds so many fantastic game modes. Fans of classic Halo might take a bit to adjust to the quicker style of play, but the core mechanics of map control and power weapon control are still crucial to winning matches.

Overwatch

Who’d have thought Blizzard Entertainment would be able to penetrate the crowded online multiplayer sphere? Not only did Blizzard did that with Overwatch, but it got so big that it influenced how other multiplayer shooters would be designed moving forward.

Overwatch managed to give shooter fans a taste of hero characters usually only present in MOBA titles, and not only did they make it work, but it was balanced excellently, too.

Rainbow Six Siege

Released back in 2015, Rainbow Six Siege is still going strong heading into its fifth year. How many games released this decade can say the same? Not only did Ubisoft Montreal bring the Rainbow Six formula and updated it for more modern tastes, but it provided an unheard-of level of post-launch support that we’re still seeing to this day.

Oh, and the different Operators, gadgets, weapons, and maps, definitely helped too.

The Division

While Destiny might have been the first console game to offer the live services gameplay that we’re all familiar with now, Ubisoft countered that with The Division, which is a more grounded take that heavily focused on co-op, loot drops, and on how best to tackle bullet-sponge enemies.

For those that played it, the way the game necessitated teamwork by making sure your character abilities synergized was one of the best co-op experiences this decade. While the game’s Dark Zone PvP mode was met with mixed results, kudos should be given to Ubisoft for trying something new.

outbreak day sale

The Last of Us

The Last of Us is truly one of the best games to date and while it’s single-player component is bar far the biggest focal point, it’s multiplayer came as a huge surprise to many that played it. Unlike many of the other shooters on this list, The Last of Us multiplayer offers a far slower pace style of play that emphasizes teamwork and survival.

Nearly everything about the multiplayer is as exciting as it’s single-player companion. Map designs are well made with plenty of cover to offer, guns and controls feel tight and weighted as if every action has a consequence, and the moment to moment confrontations are just as stress-inducing as they are in the main campaign.
It really is a title that I have yet to find a match for, and if you haven’t played it we strongly suggest you pick up the PS4 remaster.

Titanfall  & Titanfall 2

Last but definitely not least are Titanfall 1 and Titanfall 2. Yes, we know we’re kinda cheating by combining these two into one entry, but each title did enough to differentiate itself from the other, and at the same time giving a similar experience.

While Black Ops 3 might be the best jetpack Call of Duty game, the best wall-running and best jetpack shooter this decade undoubtedly belongs to the Titanfall franchise. When you factor in mechs, fantastic gunplay, new multiplayer modes that mixed in AI with your traditional multiplayer matches, then you have one of the best multiplayer shooters of all time.

Mind, we’re not surprised since the folks behind the Titanfall franchise is none other than Respawn Entertainment,  which is comprised of former Infinity Ward senior devs that worked on Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and Modern Warfare 2.

There you have it, shooter fans! The games listed above are our best multiplayer shooters list for this decade. Did we miss any game out or do you feel we included a game that shouldn’t be part of the list? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Datamined Final Fantasy 7 Remake Screenshots Reveal Major Plot Points & Characters

In case you’ve been celebrating the holidays and haven’t been keeping tabs on the site or video game news, you might not have known that Final Fantasy 7 Remake is about to get a still-unannounced demo, but the actual demo game file is already out in the wild and is being picked apart as we speak in the form of new datamined Final Fantasy 7 Remake screenshots!

For those interested, we have more info now via the new datamined Final Fantasy 7 Remake screenshots that not only shows us the updated look of some of the characters, but even major plot points, too! It seems Square Enix has pulled in stuff from the Final Fantasy 7 prequel — Crisis Core released on the PSP back in 2007 — and integrated it into the remake. The images were datamined and collected by Twitter user OtherEhm though it has since been deleted.

Before diving in below, note that some of the screenshots will be super spoiler-ish in nature given that some show what looks like a new boss character, some familiar ones appearing when and where they shouldn’t and so on.

This is your last chance before scrolling down as some of the screens below will spoil some of the story beats in the game, so proceed at your own discretion, alright?

As you can see from the screenshot above, it seems we’ll be interacting with Sepiroth way earlier than usual. In case you didn’t know, this first part of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake takes place on Midgar, which, from my understanding doesn’t show Sepiroth, since he shows up in disc 2 (at least from what I remember).

Not only that, but it looks like we’ll be dealing with a new boss character in that white string-like thing that wasn’t present in the PS1 version.

We’re expecting more stuff to be leaked from the demo, and we’re awaiting Sony and Square Enix’s announcement of the demo’s existence and availability any day now as well.

For more Final Fantasy 7 Remake news, go check out the early list of abilities and weapons we posted, as well as raw gameplay from the demo.

Sonic 2020 Video Pulled By SEGA, Fans Discover Message Possibly Teasing Next Project

SEGA wished Sonic fans earlier yesterday with a Sonic 2020 campaign video, highlighting many of the fan meet-ups and Sonic titles that they’ve released over the last few decades. Oddly, the video has since been removed online and upon further inspection, it appears that there are hidden messages throughout it.

A back up of the video can be found below for those interested in watching it, though it’s the small messages of text that are loitered throughout it that has fans talking.

There may be more hidden throughout the video, but this is what fans have discovered so far:

“It began in 2015.
A glimmer of a flame
growing with each success
enduring every challenge.
Within this is my last puzzle
Remember the words
Ignis aurum probat. (Fire Test Gold)
This next chapter belongs to you.”

We aren’t sure what exactly this message means, though the year 2015 is actually pretty significant for Sonic. For starter, it was the year that SEGA handed over the Blue Hedgehog’s official twitter account to Aaron Webber. For those who haven’t paid much attention, since Aaron take-over, the account has seen a massive boost in popularity due to its meme-filled posts constantly poking fun of the blue-haired Hedgehog himself.  Perhaps this message was placed by him and is merely referring to his journey since? Even still, the last line of text would be puzzling as it implies the start of a new chapter.

Another possibility is that this may be related to Sonic Mania, as the title officially began production in 2015, with the announcement happening the following year during the Sonic 25th anniversary. The title released in 2017 and opened up to very positive critics and player reviews. No news of a sequel has been suggested by SEGA since Mania’s release, though fans have been clamoring over a possibility of one. Interesting enough, if a new Sonic game were to begin production this year, this could point to a reveal happening next year (2021) during the 30th anniversary.

Lets not also forget about the Sonic 2020 movie that is also releasing later this year that this could very well be referring to, although it’s all speculation at this point.

One thing is certain, SEGA is rolling the new year with the #Sonic2020 as their marketing, so we do expect some sort of news to arise out of all this.

PS Plus Free Games January 2020 List Leaks Ahead of Announcement (Update)

Update: It’s now officially official! The PS Plus free games January 2020 titles are Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, and Goat Simulator! Check out the trailers for each below and be sure to grab them between January 7 to February 3, 2020.

From the groundbreaking storytellers at Naughty Dog, comes the genre-defining epic that revolutionized adventure storytelling, rebuilt by Bluepoint Games with the power of the PS4 system. Follow the perilous journey of Nathan Drake across the globe, from humble beginnings to extraordinary discoveries. Meet an unforgettable cast of characters as Drake puts life and friendship on the line in a race against ruthless enemies to uncover unimaginable treasure.

Uncharted The Nathan Drake Collection includes the single-player campaigns only for Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, and Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception.

The title says it all, really. Hurl an immaculately rendered goat with blisteringly accurate physics at all manner of objects. It’s the definitive goat simulation experience.

Oh — actually, it’s a totally bonkers fling-em-up that has you launching a goat at things. A lot of things. Experiment and see what happens!

Original Story:

We’re just in the first day of January, and it seems the leaks have started! Not only did a lot of Final Fantasy 7 Remake stuff leaked yesterday, but it seems the PS Plus free games January 2020 list has leaked too!

Unintentionally announced via the monthly PlayStation Plus free games video (which has since been made private), the PS Plus free games January 2020 list includes Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, and Goat Simulator. Yep, that’s a lot of games coming free to PS Plus members this month, as the Uncharted collection includes three games! Here’s a screenshot from the video showcasing both games:

Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection contents:

  • Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune
  • Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
  • Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception

Note that this hasn’t been 100 percent confirmed for US, but seeing as EU and US almost always gets the same titles (like 99 percent of the time), we’re going to assume US PlayStation Plus members will get these two as the freebies for January 2020.

While the chances of a PlayStation owner yet to play any of these gems are slim, at least now you can replay these for free while waiting for Naughty Dog’s next title, The Last of Us: Part II, which will be out this May 2020.

Once we get an official announcement and such, we’ll let our readers know.

WWE 2K20 Crash Fix for Originals and Create Modes Outlined as Game Is Hit With Y2K-Like Bug

If you’re hitting the virtual mats in WWE 2K20 this holiday season and find that for some reason, the game keeps crashing, it’s not you, but it’s how the game was programmed. It seems with the new year now rolling over, an error in the game is causing the date to be misinterpreted, forcing some modes to crash. Thankfully, there’s a WWE 2K20 crash fix, and it’s relatively easy to do.

All players need to do is change your system date one day back, as Visual Concepts has made it so the game force closes when it reaches 2020 on most modes. Nope, this isn’t a joke, sadly. Once you’ve changed the date, you can then set it to its normal one, and it won’t crash anymore — at least on PS4. Xbox One gamers, you’ll sadly have to wait for a patch.

Here’s the full breakdown from Reddit user ShiningDown:

2K really fucked this up. to sum it up, the game is set to crash if it sees the year as 2020, even if you’re not in a timezone that has had New Years yet. there is something in the game that has timezone info, because when I connected without internet, it still crashed. but the crashes fix if you change your date to 1 day ago. you can be online with the date changed and still access all the menus you normally would.

so to sum it up, change your date on your PS4 or PC to 1 day ago then launch the game and you’re good to go. you can change the date back after getting into any menu that crashed, btw.

Yep, there’s some sort of Y2K-inspired shenanigans happening in the game’s code. And yes, for wrasslin’ fans, there’s an obvious Y2J joke here that I’ll refrain from doing.

Aside from that bug, there are other issues in the game that still haven’t been fully resolved yet that players even compiled a list! Let’s hope a patch for this Y2K-like bug is rolled out soon.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Demo Gameplay Leaks Online

After reporting on a leak regarding a demo earlier this week, some brand new Final Fantasy 7 Remake demo gameplay has surfaced, giving us our first look at the game’s opening level! You can watch over 30 minutes of leaked footage from the demo, which is rumored to be available for the public on the PlayStation Store sometime soon. Despite this being a remake, this is still pretty heavy on spoilers for those who missed out on Final Fantasy 7 the first time around. So if you don’t want to watch it, we recommend you skip it.

The gameplay here takes us through the opening level, or as many refer to as the bombing mission.

This looks absolutely fantastic, and a bit of a surprise considering how long this opening act is and the fact that it’ll be offered as a demo for us to play. At least we assume it will be playable for everyone due to the fact that the demo ends with direct links to the PlayStation Store, something you wouldn’t normally see in a non-public release build.  Of course, though this demo as of now isn’t available, least not for non-PS4 devkit units.

Aside from a demo seemingly confirmed, we also reported on the Final Fantasy 7 Remake demo’s file size as well, and it’s pretty big.

Set for release this March 3, 2020 on the PS4, Final Fantasy 7 Remake will feature Midgar and not the entire experience. However, based on what we’ve seen so far, this won’t be a short affair by any chance.

Battlefield Games of the Decade Ranked (2010-2019)

In just a few short hours we’re going to be ushering in a new decade (for some it already is 2020), and for Battlefield fans, this is the perfect time to reflect back on the last 10 years of the franchise and to have our Battlefield games ranked list out just in time before the net-generation hits too.

Same as with our Call of Duty games ranking piece, we are basing this solely on multiplayer since this is what the Battlefield franchise is known for mostly. Don’t forget, as with all lists, taste is subjective so don’t throw a hissy-fit if your best Battlefield game isn’t #1 in this list.

Battlefield games ranked (2010-2019):

battlefield 5 french elite soldier

Battlefield V

Ironically, we’re starting this list with the current Battlefield game out, and that’s Battlefield V. While the game isn’t bad by any means and has offered its own new innovations, there are too many deviations from past Battlefield games and many other issues such as the MMG+prone meta to rank this higher than the rest.

On top of all the design changes, compared to past iterations V isn’t exactly at par with the rest when it comes to features. We only got private games a year after release, and destruction isn’t as impactful as it once was before.

Battlefield V did away with Battlefield Premium, though, so we’ll give it that. That said, some people would rather DICE go the Battlefield Premium route again if that meant better support, consistent release of maps, weapons, and more, and I don’t blame them.

Battlefield Hardline

The only Battlefield game in this list not developed by DICE, but was instead made by now-defunct studio Visceral Games (Dead Space), Battlefield Hardline was the last Battlefield game released on the PS3 and Xbox 360, and offered a fresh new take on the franchise’s take on warfare.

Instead of an actual war, gamers played as cops and criminals and battled in banks, streets, parking lots, and more. Visceral introduced multiple levolution elements in their stages, and even a new way to resupply and get medkits from teammates without the need for them to actually do anything (this method has since been employed by BFV as well).

While Hardline was a bit more faster-paced than previous Battlefield games, it quickly faded faster than any other Battlefield game in the series, and Visceral Games was shuttered down, and the rest is history.

ea servers down

Battlefield 1

Despite being set in World War 1, Battlefield 1 offered a bunch of new gameplay design mechanics not seen in past Battlefield titles. Players were introduced to vehicle-based classes, Elite classes, and even the Behemoths that, depending on who you ask, is either a good thing or the worst idea DICE has ever had in terms of new additions.

Possibly the only major downside Battlefield 1 had compared to other games is the lack of gun variety. Aside from that, though, Battlefield 1 offered that familiar Battlefield formula when it comes to gunplay, gameplay mechanics, map design, and so on.

Battlefield 4

Note that for the last three games, it’s pretty much a toss-up in terms of which one really is the best Battlefield game this generation. You can move Battlefield 4 up between the remaining two, and people would understand why.

Battlefield 4 introduced large-scale destruction called “Levolution” that saw entire buildings crumble, dams get blasted open, and lots more. This wasn’t just “some” gimmick as it affected the way the map flowed, capture points, and more.

In addition to that, DICE amped up the gun customization for Battlefield 4 by letting you mix and match different attachments for your guns.

However, among the good stuff that we all fondly remember now, BF4 was plagued with technical glitches when it came out (more so than your usual DICE game) since its release coincided with the launch of the PS4 and Xbox One. At the time, players were subjected to tech issues that got so bad, EA was hit with a lawsuit. That said, once those were ironed out, gamers were treated to a Battlefield title that felt like a greatest hits tribute album. If you haven’t, we highly recommend you revisit the title after all these years.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2

Bad Company 2 is an anomaly that seems to have achieved cult-like status in terms of reverence among the Battlefield community. Originally disliked by hardcore players due to its lower player count, and more casual-friendly class system, Bad Company 2 won over players with its introduction of full-on destruction that saw entire stages leveled by explosions, gunfire and so on. The amount of destruction offered in Bad Company 2 quickly became a franchise staple, that even today is regarded as the series high point.

Aside from destruction, Bad Company 2 introduced a wide range of unique gadgets and equipment (controllable UAV, anyone?) and even a streamlining of how classes worked that we still see to this day (Medic, Support Recon, and Engineer). This new take on classes, gadgets, lower player counts in a match were played on some of the best maps the franchise has ever seen. Remember Arica Harbor? Nelson Bay? Yeah, we thought you would.

Bad Company 2 also introduced arguably the best Battlefield DLC, Battlefield: Vietnam that saw character model changes (back then, changing how characters looked wasn’t as prevalent in online shooters), new weapons, new maps, and new ways to play.

To further emphasize how much fans love Bad Company 2, any chatter on a possibility of Bad Company 3 sends fans into a frenzy, and we don’t blame them.

Battlefield 3

Surprised Battlefield 3 took the top spot? Don’t be. While Battlefield 3 might not feature destruction as in-depth as Bad Company 2, or offer the same kind of large-scale levolution set pieces seen in Battlefield 4, it more than made up for it with fantastic gunplay, a perfect blend of rock, paper, scissors gameplay, and possibly the most memorable set of maps in any Battlefield game ever.

What also makes Battlefield 3 stand out are the maps. To this day, we still see Operation Metro in new Battlefield games, and it’s understandable why. Not only that, but those who played the game will fondly remember maps like Caspian Border, Seine Crossing, Grand Bazaar, and more.

At face value, Battlefield 3 seemingly copied Bad Company 2’s class system, all while changing how gunplay, movement, and even how melee felt to something much smoother and less clunky. Speaking of melee, BF3 was also the first game in the series to feature execution-melee attacks that are now the norm in other FPS online shooters.

There you have it, soldier! Do you agree with our Battlefield ranking piece on the franchise entries released this decade? Did Bad Company 2 deserve the top spot? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Report: Final Fantasy 7 Remake File Size and Intro Leaked, Demo Now Playable on Devkits

Remember when just last week, we reported that a Final Fantasy 7 Remake demo was headed to the PlayStation Store? Well, it seems today, more fuel has been added to that rumor fire! It seems the Final Fantasy 7 Remake file size and even intro have both been leaked!

Based on the info gotten from the PlayStation Store, the Final Fantasy 7 Remake demo file size will be at 10GB, with the actual game clocking in at 73GB! This size also fits the confirmation that the title would span across two Blu-ray discs.

Not only that, but ResetEra user Lifejumper has unearthed the Final Fantasy 7 Remake demo intro too! Check it out below, complete with the title screen.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ivzat4BSJ8&feature=emb_logo

Just in case there was any doubt that there’s a Final Fantasy 7 Remake demo incoming soon, the demo itself is playable on development kits now, and is playable on devkits running 6.50 and above!

https://twitter.com/notzecoxao/status/1212052215583715329

Note that none of these are official info, and given it’s the holidays, we’re doubtful Square Enix will reply with any sort of statement. That said, we’ve sent an email out and will update the post if we get a reply.

Don’t forget, given how frequent games are patched these days, I suspect we’ll be getting a day one patch for Final Fantasy 7 Remake that should increase that file size a bit.

Make sure to check out the latest trailer for Final Fantasy 7 Remake here.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake is out on March 3, 2020 on the PS4.

Modern Warfare Playlist Update Today Brings Grind and Shoot House 24/7

Even if we’re on the cusp of a new year, Infinity Ward is still putting in work as the studio has rolled out a new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare playlist update today, and it brings in a few new playlists, and takes out some, too.

Chief among the omissions is the Shoot the Ship playlist that houses Shoot House, and the new map Shipment, into their own mosh pit of game modes. Replacing that is the familiar Shoot the House 24/7 playlist, as well as Grind, which replaces Drop Zone. Another game mode removed is Snowfight, which, in case you didn’t know, has players dishing out pain using snowballs!

We should be getting a new patch from Infinity Ward sometime this month, which should bring in gameplay tweaks, technical fixes and more.

While it is the holidays, there’s still a trickle of Modern Warfare news that came out! Check out how someone managed to pull off a Nuke in the game in just 29 seconds! If that’s not your bag, check out our ranking piece on the Call of Duty multiplayer for this decade, and where Modern Warfare ended up.

Are you bummed that Shoot the Ship is gone? Or did you find Shipment’s spawns too chaotic? Hopefully, we’ll get a close-quarters map playlist soon given the community’s love for grinder maps.

Report: Xbox Series X and PS5 GPU Specs Leaked

Leak specs of the PS5 GPU, code-named Oberon have apparently leaked along with some light details around the Xbox Series X GPU.

According to a post, published by Digital Foundry, the company had apparently verified early reportings around the PS5 GPU leak a few months back and posted a breakdown of it along with some details around another GPU (Arden) that is rumored to belong to that of Microsoft console, the Xbox Series X.

In the lengthy post, Digital Foundry details that the PS5 GPU will be 9.2 Teraflops. To put this into perspective, the base PS4 has 1.84 teraflops, whereas it’s mid-gen upgrade features a 4.2 teraflop. So we are seeing a GPU that is 5 times the teraflop of the base PS4 and 2 times the Pro version. Not bad, not bad at all and all things considering the GPU won’t be held back by an outdated Jaguar CPU that the Pro continued to use.

Here’s a break down of what Digital Foundry concluded concerning the PS5 GPU

  • Eight Zen 2 Cores with SMT
  • 36 custom Navi compute units at 2000MHz
  • GDDR6 448GB/s to 512GB/s

The Xbox Series X GPU is apparently given a code-name of “Arden” though much of the information around it is very light as the document is nearly 6-months old and at the time, testing of Arden was very limited. DF concludes the following specs for the Xbox Series X GPU

  • Eight Zen 2 Cores with SMT
  • 56 custom Navi compute units at approx 1700MHz
  • GDDR6 at 560GB/s

This would indicate that the Series X would boast a beefy 12 teraflops, edging it over the PS5 GPU rumored specs. This, however, will most likely translate to the pricing of the console, with Sony aiming for a more affordable device and Microsoft offering a premium expensive option from the get-go. We don’t know much about Microsoft’s lower end Xbox series that has also been rumored, nor do we know whether Sony plans on offering a higher spec version of the PS5. We speculate the latter will come sometimes mid-generation, much as the PS4 Pro did.

Of course, at this time this information isn’t verified by either Sony or Microsoft, so take it with a grain of salt.

Call of Duty Multiplayer This Decade Ranked (2010-2019)

With 2019 coming to a close, we’re not only ushering in a new year but a start of a new decade too! With that in mind, we’ve decided to rank to all the Call of Duty games — based on multiplayer alone — released this decade, and came up with this list below! Note that this isn’t a COD games ranked piece for every game released, but just those released this decade (2010-2019).

And before anyone gets upset, remember that taste is subjective, so not everyone will agree with the order below. While games are review based on everything it has to offer, we are basing this COD games multiplayer ranked piece based on just that — the multiplayer.

Call of Duty Multiplayer ranked (2010-2019):

Call of Duty Ghosts

Call of Duty: Ghosts (released – 2013)

Kicking things off is possibly the franchise’s most forgotten or unremarkable entry of all time. If you ask someone what their most hated or most loved Call of Duty multiplayer experience was, chances are, you won’t hear “Ghosts” in either of them.

Ghosts was a product of its time, introducing new mechanics like leaning and large scale maps. With the series’ fast kill time and requiring lean kills to acquire camo challenges, it enforced more camping than past Call of Duty titles.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare (released – 2016)

When Infinite Warfare launched, this was the point that a lot of Call of Duty gamers were sick and tired of wall-running, jetpacks, and so on from Advanced Warfare and Black Ops 3, with both games offering a better version of the high-speed, jetpack-themed gameplay.

Not only that, but Infinity Ward introduced its own take on Treyarch’s Specialists called “Combat Rigs.” On paper, it seemingly offered its class system that kind of works, but some were overpowered or just outright goofy.

Infinite Warfare did offer hundreds of guns for players, though with its crafting system, and we’ll give it that.

call of duty advanced warfare 2

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (released – 2014)

Advanced Warfare is both the bringer of change and the start of the bad juju for the franchise. Jetpacks were introduced in Advanced Warfare in the form of exosuits that allowed players to jump higher, run faster, and so on. While it offered a refreshing change at the time, the novelty quickly wore out its welcome real quick with the Call of Duty fanbase.

In addition to that, Advanced Warfare is also the first Call of Duty game to offer Supply Drops-specific weapons! For those that played it, chances are you can still remember how some guns offered a distinct advantage over its base version, and it can only be obtained via Supply Drops. This alone could have propelled Advanced Warfare to the bottom of the list if its gameplay and innovation (at the time) wasn’t considered.

modern warfare season 1 trailer

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (released – 2019)

While Activision says Modern Warfare 2019 is now the most played Call of Duty game this generation, we suspect that a lot of that pull has something to do with the game’s name (it’s Modern Warfare for crying out loud!), coupled with how starved the COD fanbase is for a proper boots-on-the-ground multiplayer experience.

Not to say that the game hasn’t done anything good, but the camping meta, Infinity Ward’s stubbornness in coddling new players at the expense of veterans, how strict skill-based matchmaking is, and other issues put this at the latter half of this ranking.

For all the issues it has, Modern Warfare has superb gunplay, an in-depth gun customization feature in the Gunsmith, and (so far, so good) amazing post-launch support from Infinity Ward.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (released – 2011)

Riding high on the Modern Warfare 2 momentum train, Infinity Ward dropped Modern Warfare 3 to the COD fanbase and introduced new ways to earn killstreaks via the studio’s new poinstreaks, which were divided into different Strike packages (Assault, Support, and Specialist).

While the new ‘streaks system was a welcome change of pace (depending on who you ask), the weapon system was revamped, too with mixed results. Introducing what the studio calls “Proficiency” for weapons, this paved the way for gun abilities.

In some cases, Modern Warfare 3 played it safe, but for some people, that’s just what they wanted from the third entry in the Modern Warfare saga.

black ops 4 new operation roadmap

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 (released – 2018)

After a bit of development turmoil that saw the game allegedly retransition from an Overwatch-like path to what we got when it released last year, Treyarch still managed to bring the goods with Black Ops 4.

The gunplay was solid, the Pick 10 system was still working as great as ever, and the maps still followed tried and true three-lane design. Unfortunately, though, it also brought in stuff like Specialist spam, Supply Drop-specific weapons (that were eventually restructured this year), an increase in health from 100 to 150 that made gunfights longer, and still didn’t deliver the boots on the ground gameplay that fans have been clamoring for since Black Ops 3 was released.

Take out Specialists stuff though, and how the Supply Drop mechanic in Black Ops 4 became almost predatory in nature, then you have a solid Call of Duty title still.

Call of Duty: WWII (released – 2017)

Originally published with its own Division system that were generally not well received by players, Sledgehammer Games (after studio boss Michael Condrey was shuttered off) overhauled the Divisions system to appease fans. Still, the thing was, it came in months after the game was released, and a lot of the players soured by the then Divisions system have moved on to other games.

If you stuck around though, Sledgehammer changed how the core multiplayer worked for the better, updated the game with new weapons were easy to earn without spending a dime on delivering a top-notch Call of Duty experience.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 (released – 2015)

Undoubtedly the best jetpack/wallruning Call of Duty game, Black Ops 3 delivered fantastic gun selection, the traditional Pick 10 system, three-lane maps, and was generally a well-liked Call of Duty game. However, Supply Drop weapons were in full force here, which soured the game for most people since a lot of the post-launch weapons were only accessible by spending actual money.

Aside from that small issue though, Black Ops 3 was a solid entry in the franchise and was the pinnacle of jetpacks and Specialists without bordering on overkill when it comes to Specialist abilities being unleashed every few seconds.

Call of Duty: Black Ops (released – 2010)

While the first Black Ops didn’t really innovate and instead improved on Modern Warfare and MW2, it did introduce the now-forgotten COD Points system that allowed players to purchase (in-game only) weapons, accessories and more. Treyarch even allowed players to gamble with their COD Points in its “Wager Match” game mode.

Also, this was the first COD game to feature Theater mode that allowed matches to be recorded for some badass montages.

Sure, Black Ops might not have innovated that much, but it didn’t need to and was a very well rounded Call of Duty game.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 (released – 2012)

Seen by many as the best Call of Duty game of all-time, this hinges mostly on the multiplayer and the innovations that Treyarch introduced that would not only become franchise staples but literally change how the game is played up to this day.

In case you didn’t know, Black Ops 2 was the first game where the Pick 10 system was introduced in place of the traditional three-tier Perks system, with the former offering a new level of customization that allowed gamers to play the multiplayer exactly how they wanted to.

If that wasn’t enough, Treyarch also introduced the scorestreak system in place of killstreaks, which encouraged objective-based play, and made the game focus on teamwork, winning, and not just getting as many frags as you could.

On the scorestreaks front, the studio put out all the stops too. There were attack dogs, predator missiles, and everything we’ve come to expect. Couple that with with the three-lane map design that allowed a balanced flow for each team, as well as a pretty well rounded available list of weapons (Supply Drops weren’t introduced yet), and you have a Call of Duty that’s revered to this day — and with good reason.

Well, there you have it! That’s our list of the best Call of Duty multiplayer for this decade ranked! Do you agree with our list? Which ones would you re-order? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Modern Warfare Fastest Nuke – Watch Someone Do It in 29 Seconds

While pulling off a Nuke in any Call of Duty game is a hard enough feat, what if I told you someone managed to do it in less than a minute in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare? Yep, someone just snatched the Modern Warfare fastest Nuke award, and it took them all 29 seconds to do it!

There was no hacking or cheating involved (or that wouldn’t have counted), but it was done in hardcore mode, and on the new Shipment map (kinda exploiting the map’s horrid spawns). Using the FAMAS. watch Payton132 amass a ton of kills just by sitting in one corner and going to town!

29 Second Tactical Nuke (Using Shipments broken spawns) 🙂
byu/Payton132 inmodernwarfare

As you can see, the game just repeatedly kept spawning in enemies directly in front of him which equated to easy kills. Of course, this isn’t as easy as it looks, as playing hardcode on a map like Shipment meant that your teammates would most likely get in the way of your shots or you’d end up team-killing them.

Nonetheless, congrats, Payton132! I honestly don’t see this record being broken anytime soon given we don’t have any maps that have spawns as broken as Shipment.

Nintendo Switch Lite Hack Is Already a Done Deal Just 3 Months After Launch

A new Nintendo Switch Lite hack has surfaced, with a teased release happening early next year. While the original Nintendo Switch was hacked rather quickly thanks to a hardware overlook, it would appear that the Lite version that Nintendo released back in September proved to be a little more difficult for hackers. Nonetheless, after some long work of digging, Team-Xecuter, the creator behind the Switch SX tool for the original Nintendo Switch has published a new video, teasing he SX OS 3.0 running on the Switch lite.

Interesting enough, they don’t show a dongle connected whatsoever upon booting up, something that is required for a cold-boot for the original Nintendo Switch SX hack. Don’t get excited for this release too much though as it will most likely be behind some sort of paywall as with all TX supplied hacks. This hacking method currently isn’t available yet, though the team promises it will be released early next year.

Expect Nintendo to continue releasing more software updates in hopes of tightening the security of their devices. As with previous updates, they have done a decent job at patching known exploits, however, hackers appear to remain a step ahead as they are quickly cracked. We don’t condone the practice of hacking hardware for the sole purpose of downloading illegal games, but there have been some cool features to come out of the community such as hardware overclocking and a few useful applets.

New Dualshock Controller Patent Surfaces, Shows Additional Back Buttons

A few weeks ago we reported on a new Dualshock 4 attachment that added back triggers to the controller, and while that was an added separate peripheral that could be purchased, it would appear that Sony may have further plans to at some point add them to the actual controller as the company has filed a new DualShock controller patent.

The company filed for a patent earlier this week for a new Dualshock controller, and while the overall design remains the same, there are two very noticeable buttons underneath the controller. LetsGoDigital has provided some renderings to clean up the Patent images, to give us a better look at what these triggers may look like. Additionally, in both the Patent and rendering, the PlayStation button appears to be missing.

It would be odd to not include the PlayStation Button as it has made menu accessibility extremely easy. It was featured in the Dualshock 3 (PlayStation 3) controller and carried over to the Dualshock 4 (PlayStation 4). Of course, this being a patent this isn’t the final design.

The added buttons certainly look as if they may be a great addition as the spacing there is already left open on the current controller. Obviously nothing can be said about the comfortability with them being positioned there, but hopefully, it isn’t compromised.

What do you guys think? Are these great additions or should Sony just continue with offering attachments and maybe perhaps develop their own official Pro controller? Let us know down below.
