Apex Legends Update 1.1.1 (1.07) Patch Notes Reveal Character and Weapon Tweaks

While there might not be a lot of content to go through for Apex Legends’ first Battle Pass, players will instead have to contend with a new Apex Legends patch that tweaks not only characters, but weapons as well!

Apex Legends 1.1.1 update should be live now, and we got the patch notes! Clocking in at just 145MB on the PS4, check out the full Apex Legends update notes below (via Reddit):

LEGEND BALANCING

At the start of Season 1, we previously talked about how our beloved Thicc Bois (Pathfinder, Gibraltar and Caustic) were getting crushed due to their hitbox size compared to other Legends. We first wanted to try adjusting hitboxes to better fit the model. For Pathfinder, this change worked very well. (Note: separately, we are actively investigating and working on fixing unrelated hit registration issues sometimes affecting all characters). However, after looking at the data and player feedback, Gibraltar and Caustic only improved slightly with the hitbox adjustments.

We don’t believe that hit box and character kit tuning is sufficient to bring Gibraltar and Caustic in line with their smaller competitors. Starting with Patch 1.1.1, Gibraltar and Caustic will get a new perk added to their passive – Fortified, which reduces damage taken by 10%. Over the week or two following this change, we will be watching how they perform with this additional protection and aggressively tune it if they are still underpowered relative to their size. Our goal is to ensure both Legends are viable picks by the end of this process.

Additionally, we’re also making a few quality of life kit adjustments to ensure their marquee abilities are a more impactful part of their individual playstyles.

CAUSTIC:

  • Fortified Passive Perk added: reduces damage taken by 10%
  • Gas Damage per tick increased: 1 -> 4
  • Ultimate Throw distance increased: 28 meters -> 33 meters

GIBRALTAR:

  • Fortified Passive Perk added: reduces damage taken by 10%
  • Gun Shield health increased: 50 -> 75

WEAPON BALANCING

On the weapons side of the equation, we’ve made a number of changes to try to improve the power of long range gameplay. We’re reducing leg shot damage reductions on sniper category weapons, so you’re not punished for landing inaccurate shots at long distances. Given the semi-auto and low damage nature of our current sniper suite, coupled with the general speed and evasiveness of many Legend kits, it already takes several challenging shots to down someone at range. Because of this difficult sniper environment, we’re also reducing general sniper weapon sway and hitting the DMR with a few targeted buffs to make it more viable to engage Legends at range.

Separately from the sniper category, we are nerfing the Spitfire a bit, but our goal is to still keep it strong, as it’s a rarer spawning weapon. The Wingman is receiving a few magazine size nerfs, so that it doesn’t dominate the stock gun vs. stock gun battle early on due to its super high damage per bullet. Lastly, the Havoc is getting some general ammo and charge beam buffs to bring it in line as a viable energy ammo AR that competes with the R-301 and Flatine/Hemlok. The end goal is that the Havoc pressures a player’s ability to find Energy ammo, but is less dependent on finding attachments, whereas the R-301 and Flatline/Hemlok have less ammo pressure, but a higher reliance on finding more attachments to achieve power.

  • G7 SCOUT / TRIPLE TAKE / LONGBOW DMR
    • Lowered leg shot damage reduction: 25% -> 10%
    • Reduced base weapon sway by about 33%
    • Reduced base sway speed by about 25%

  • LONGBOW DMR
    • Increased fire rate 1.2 -> 1.6
    • Increased magazine size
      • Base mag increased: 5 -> 6 rounds
      • Common mag extender increased: 6 -> 8 rounds
      • Rare mag extender increased: 8 -> 10 rounds
      • Epic mag extender increased: 10 -> 12 rounds

  • HAVOC
    • Increased base magazine size: 25 -> 32 rounds
    • Charge Beam
      • Reduced cost per shot: 5 -> 4
      • Increased close range damage: 55 -> 60
      • Increased damage at range: 45 -> 50
      • Close range damage falloff increased: 35m -> 75m
      • Ranged damage falloff increased: 75m -> 125m

  • WINGMAN
    • Reduced magazine size
      • Base mag reduced: 6 -> 4 rounds
      • Common mag extender reduced: 8 -> 6 rounds
      • Rare mag extender reduced: 9 -> 8 rounds
      • Epic mag extender reduced: 12 -> 10 rounds

      • Common mag extender reduced: 45 -> 40 rounds

BATTLE PASS XP BONUS EVENT:

In honor of Thicc-boi buffs, we’re going to be running a bonus Battle Pass XP event. From approximately 10AM PST 4/16 through approximately 10AM PST 4/18, your first Top 5 of the day (your squad places 5th or better in a match) will grant you 1 full bonus Battle Pass Level (29,500 BPP), up to a max of level 110. You can earn this once per day.

We’ll also be finding other moments during the season to add Battle Pass XP bonuses, so stay tuned!

ADDITIONAL CHANGES

  • JUMP SHIP SPEED
    • Increased the speed of the ship by about 50%
      • We felt that the ship was moving a bit too slow after watching player behavior so we’re speeding it up so players that like to drop later in the flight path don’t have to wait so long.
  • BUG FIXES
    • Fixed UI bug where the wrong percentage would be displayed for all boost badges.

Make sure to read up on a Respawn dev’s comment on why they don’t announce game features head of time.

Anthem Survey Answers From the Community Is a Bit Telling of Where the Game Currently Is

While BioWare’s last public message was one acknowledging that the studio has issues to deal with in terms of management, work environment and the like, that doesn’t mean Anthem, the studio’s latest game, is in a good spot right now.

Over on the game’s subreddit, the results of a fan ran Anthem survey has been made available, and it’s pretty telling what the player base thinks of the game so far, and what areas need to improve ASAP (loot is one of those things, which is a surprise to no one following the game).

Curious what’s answered? Stuff like how the community sees the future of Anthem, whether anyone is looking forward to playing it more, what’s their take on cosmetics, and more!

Check out the results of this Anthem survey conducted by Reddit user SyntaxTheGr8 (over 1,000 responses polled).

I would take this data with a grain of salt, since some respondents may have confused appearance with how often they occurred, instead of how they looked.

Do you agree with the responses so far? Share your answers to the survey in the comments below.

Capcom New Announcement Teased in Video Featuring Darkstalkers, Street Fighter, & Aliens vs. Predator

While we’re a few months away from E3, it looks like Capcom’s isn’t waiting for the big event to announce something. Over on Twitter, the official Capcom account is teasing a new announcement via a video where it mentions “Here Comes a New Challenger.”

This announcement is set for tomorrow at 11 a.m. ET/9 a.m. PT. Check out the Capcom new announcement teaser below.

Lasting for just 24 seconds, the video clip includes footage from Street Fighter II, Darkstalkers, and other Capcom properties. It’s worth noting that the Aliens vs. Predator franchise is somehow involved given that the copyright text at the end of the video mentions, AlienPredator, and Alien vs. Predator are TM & (C) 2019 Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation.”

Street Fighter fans will also remember that the “Here Comes a New Challenger” line is when a second player enters an on-going match, which leads us to believe this is somehow multiplayer related.

Will this be a new game? A new retro compilation? Maybe a new mobile game? We’ll know for sure tomorrow.

What do you want to see from this Capcom announcement? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Here Are More Leaked Battlefield 5 French Soldier Skins That Should Be Coming Soon

Two weeks ago, we reported on how the Battlefield 5 game files had a few French soldier skins hidden away. Well, it seems more Battlefield 5 French soldier skins are coming to the game, and they’re more impressive than what was leaked before.

Once again, it was datamined by Battlefield 5 game code comber temporyal, the two Battlefield 5 French soldier skins are called Liberte, and Underground. Check them out below.

“Liberté” is complete but “Underground” will feature one additional piece of cloth I can’t render or even see right now. Maybe the upcoming armory update has more details on this set.

One Reddit user commented that these will most likely be purchasable with “Boins,” which are  Battlefield Coins, given how we got the “watered down” versions of these before.

For more Battlefield 5 news, make sure to bookmark our game hub. There’s a bunch of leaked stuff below as well.

  • Level 23 – Third Hand – killing 15 zombies in rapid succession instantly reloads your primary weapon
  • Level 24 – Party at my place – Maximum Molotov capacity increased to 3 and Claymore capacity to 4
  • Level 25 – Pickpocket – Killing 15 zombies in rapid succession gives 25% chance to refill one charge to your equipment
  • Level 26 – Thrifty – 15% chance of using the Claymore or Molotov without depleting an equipment charge
  • Level 27 – Know-how – Molotovs and Claymores can kill 25% more targets
  • Level 28 – Hot sauce – Molotov’s splash damage increased by 50%
  • Level 29 – Ghost – Automatically receive masking effect if you are the last of your team still standing (does not apply if you are incapacitated or pinned)
  • Level 30 – Daredevil – When there are more than 30 zombies in the area, firearm damage is increased by 25% and number of melee strikes before becoming fatigue is increased by 2

Of course, we don’t know whether Saber Interactive will add more classes and skills in the future, but for now, this is the full list.

Report: Bungie Wants the Destiny Save Transfer to Other Platforms Feature, But It Got Blocked by Sony

Here’s something interesting to talk about today: for Destiny players, it’s understandable that being able to transfer your game character from one platform to another is a welcome feature. I mean, not only would that mean all the character rank and progress you’ve worked hard for can be accessed by you regardless of what platform you’re playing on, but that would make looting for weapons and materials so much easier, too.

While Bungie hasn’t allowed a Destiny save transfer feature to be implemented in the Destiny franchise, it seems it’s not because the studio doesn’t want to, but rather they were blocked from implementing it by Sony. This was revealed today by Kotaku’s Jason Schreier, who’s very reliable when it comes to gaming insider news and gossip, in a new podcast.

According to Schreier:

I heard that Bungie wanted to do character transfers for PS4, PC,(remember we talked about that a bunch before Forsaken last year) but Sony wouldn’t allow it. Sony was like, “we want people to associate Destiny with PS4,”

You can listen to the podcast to hear it yourself, it’s around the 57:00 mark. Don’t forget, folks, this is still not a 100 percent guarantee that this is the case, though of course it has a lot more weight behind it given Schreier’s reputation.

We’ve reached out to Sony for a statement and will update the post if we get a response.

Given how Bungie has now split up with Activision, could this Destiny save transfer feature finally be implemented in Destiny 3 assuming Bungie isn’t tied up to continue Sony’s exclusivity deal with Activision?

Speaking of Destiny and Sony, check out this new story regarding an exclusive PlayStation weapon that was accidentally made available to other platforms, and what Bungie is doing to “fix” it.

Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order Release Date Officially Announced, Will Purely be Single-Player, No Microtransactions

As expected, Respawn Entertainment unveiled Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order today, and that includes the reveal trailer and lots more game details! More importantly, in a press release, the Jedi Fallen Order release date has been announced, and it’s November 15, 2019, which means it’ll be EA’s “big” game this holiday season!

The game will feature an authentic story set shortly after the events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith™, when the Jedi have fallen. Fans will play as a young Padawan named Cal Kestis, brought to life by Cameron Monaghan (Shameless, Gotham), who has survived Order 66, the Emperor’s secret decree to eliminate all Jedi. Players must pick up the pieces of Cal’s shattered past to complete his training and master the art of the iconic lightsaber – all while staying one step ahead of the Empire and its deadly Inquisitors.

Players will meet Cal on Bracca, a brand-new Star Wars planet and one of several new locations introduced in the game. Cal is hiding from the Empire in plain sight but is forced to go on the run when he exposes his Force powers. Along the way, Cal will make new friends, like his mysterious companion Cere, as well as run into some familiar faces, all while being accompanied by his faithful droid BD-1. Cal’s flight from the Empire is made even more dangerous as he is being pursued by the Second Sister, one of the Empire’s elite Inquisitors, who seeks to hunt Cal down and extinguish this surviving Jedi. Assisting the Second Sister are the terrifying Purge Troopers, special Imperial forces trained to seek out Jedi and aid the Inquisitors in their dastardly work.

In addition to that, during today’s Star Wars Celebration, Vince Zampella, Respawn Entertainment head honcho, confirmed that Jedi Fallen Order will be a story-driven single–player affair, and will have no multiplayer of any sort (bummer for us!), and will feature no microtransactions (yay!). This was mentioned by reliable industry insider shinobi602

While Jedi Fallen Order will feature no multiplayer of any kind, expect to see news from the game pop up here on MP1st from time to time.

Do you want MP1st to cover more single-player games or just stick to multiplayer? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Mortal Kombat 11 Kitana Gameplay Showcase Also Features D’Vorah

Earlier this week, a new TV spot for Mortal Kombat 11 was released, and it confirmed the inclusion of Kitana in the roster. Today, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has released a new trailer, and it features gameplay for both Kitana and D’Vorah!

Check out the Mortal Kombat 11 Kitana gameplay reveal below.

Kitana, the 10,000-year-old princess of Edenia, grew up believing she was Shao Kahn’s biological daughter and served as one of his deadliest warriors. When Kitana learned the truth, she fought against Shao Kahn’s attempted conquest of Earthrealm, eventually dying in battle. After being resurrected as an evil revenant version of her former self, Kitana now rules the Netherrealm alongside revenant Liu Kang, dedicated to the destruction of all the realms.

D’Vorah is one among many Kytinn, a swarm of sentient insects who share a hive mind. D’Vorah has served Shao Kahn, Kotal Kahn, and Shinnok, but her true allegiance is to the swarm. She lies, cheats, and backstabs so that when everyone else has died, the Kytinn hive will survive.

Check out the other character reveal trailers over on our Mortal Kombat 11 game hub.

Mortal Kombat 11 will punch its way out this April 23 on the PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.

Respawn Developer Explains Why Devs Don’t Comment on Upcoming Features and Fixes for Games, and It Makes a Lot of Sense

While gamers blaming developers is nothing new, some might be wondering why almost all communication from a studio goes through a PR (public relations) representative and not just directly from the developers themselves.

Over on the Apex Legends subreddit, Respawn Entertainment “Scriptacus” posted a long message in answering a player regarding the Apex Legends leaving early penalty feature that was accidentally rolled out, but pulled back in for further testing. In the thread, Scriptacus replied to a player and explained why developers are hesitant to announce new features, fixes, and the like without going through proper channels first.

To answer your first question; because the artists that make the skins, and the operations folks who update the store don’t implement gameplay, nor are they in charge of game direction.

As for everything else, there’s far too much there to answer individually, and a lot of it I’m not at liberty to answer. There best answer I can give you is: We will continue to support and improve the game to the best of our ability.

Unfortunately, there are far more things for us to spend our development time on than there is time, so we have to prioritize. In the end, that’s going to leave someone unhappy because what they feel is important isn’t prioritized as highly as they think it should be. That’s just reality, and we can’t make everyone happy.

As to why I don’t give specific answers about unannounced or requested features (like alternate modes); far too often it’s unwise to do so. Just mentioning this kind of stuff gets taken as a promise. The timeline starts the moment it’s mentioned… and everyone has a different expectation of what’s a reasonable timeline… and many people heavily underestimate what is required.

I’ll give you my somewhat cynical take on how this stuff tends to go. If I were to say “Yes, feature X will come to the game someday.”, (aside from instantly becoming a promise, which we are now obligated to add) it would likely get picked up by blogs and gaming news sites, posted as “Respawn says X is coming to Apex”, and depending on how those articles are written, they’re going to set expectations incorrectly for a lot of people. Eventually, people would talk about how Respawn “announced X ages ago”, saying that it’s taking too long, or speculating about why it has been delayed. A lot of this can be helped by careful wordsmithing, but even that can be taken out of context, or misquoted like a bad game of telephone, leading to the same issues. So I leave that to those whose job it is, and post what I can, when I can, in my free time (hello Sunday afternoon).

I don’t know about you, but that response makes a ton of sense, right? And it doesn’t apply to just Apex Legends, either. So the next time you’re wondering why a studio doesn’t just confirm or say something, use that reply as a reference.

Are you fine with the developer’s response or do you think there’s a better way of handling this overall?

In other Apex Legends news, make sure to read up on this blow by blow account of a cheater repeatedly banned! Trust me, it’ll make you smile just a bit.

Borderlands GOTY Edition Update Addresses PS4 Connectivity Issues

For those playing Borderlands: Game of the Year edition on PS4, chances are you’ve encountered an issue or two when it comes to connection and the like. Thankfully, Gearbox Software has rolled out a Borderlands GOTY edition update that addresses this after days of problems.

This was announced by the official Borderlands Twitter account earlier today.

The issues PS4 players have been experiencing were:

  • Players being unable to connect online at all
  • Lag and/or “rubber-banding” when playing online

Both issues should be addressed by the time you read this. If not, submit a ticket to 2K Games’ support site.

In other Borderlands news, Borderlands 2 has managed to skyrocket to the top five list of most played games on Steam, which has been helped no doubt by Borderlands 3’s announcement. Speaking of, check out Borderlands 3’s latest (leaked) trailer, and prepare for the official hands-on preview by Gearbox set to drop this May 1.

7-Year Old Game Borderlands 2 Climbs to Top 5 of Steam’s Most Played List With Almost 60K Concurrent Players

Clearly, Borderlands 3 has people hyped. How hyped? Enough for Borderlands 2, a game released way back in 2012 (yes, seven years ago!), to climb back into Steam’s top five most played games list! It seems Gearbox Software and 2K Games’ decision to have Borderlands 3 available initially at the Epic Games Store hasn’t dampened people’s excitement for the franchise.

Checking SteamCharts, you can see Borderlands 2 peaking at 59,333 players last weekend, which is close to half of Borderlands 2’s all-time Steam peak of 124,000 concurrent players way back in September 2012. No doubt this spike can be attributed to the re-release of the game via The Handsome Collection. That said, this is very impressive indeed — especially if you factor in that this doesn’t even include console numbers.

Borderlands 3 is set to launch this September 13 on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC, and you can check out the announcement trailer here which includes gameplay. Gearbox has announced that we’ll see our first hands-on impressions of the game come May 1, but in the meantime, you can also check out a leaked trailer right here.

World War Z Launch Trailer Brings the Zombie Hordes and the Action

In just a few days, World War Z (the game based on the movie which was based on the novel) will bring zombie horde action onto the PS4, Xbox One, and PC this April 16, and you know what that means! It’s launch trailer time!

Today, the World War Z launch trailer was released by Focus Home Interactive, and we get to see a ton of action, and of course, lots and lots of zombies! Zombies exploding, being burned, climbing on top of each other and lots more! If there’s a way to get rid of the undead, most likely it’s possible here in World War Z.

Saber Interactive and Focus Home Interactive have just released the new launch trailer for World War Z, the highly anticipated action-packed co-op shooter inspired by Paramount Pictures’ blockbuster film. Take a look at the explosive Launch Trailer, set to the song “War” covered by Black Stone Cherry, and prepare to outlive the dead in only four more days.

Powered by Saber’s dynamic Swarm Engine™, World War Z unleashes hundreds of fast-moving, bloodthirsty zombies – able to move and strike as one collective herd as well as break off into individual attackers – at a time on players. Choose from six distinct classes and an arsenal of deadly weapons, explosives, turrets and traps. Outlive the dead through intense four-player co-op campaign missions around the world, including New York, Jerusalem, Moscow and Tokyo, and battle both zombies and real human opponents in competitive, team-based Players vs. Players vs. Zombies (PvPvZ) multiplayer.

You can check out the game’s classes here, or if you want to see how PvPvE works, there’s also a video of that available.

The Division 2 Upcoming Patch Scheduled for Next Week, Here’s What’ll Be in It

While Ubisoft just rolled out a bunch of fixes earlier today during the maintenance period for The Division 2, the studio is already prepping a The Divsion 2 upcoming patch, which is scheduled for next week.

You can check out what’s coming to The Division 2 patch 2.1, as well as concerns for other game issues and more below (via Ubisoft forums).

We will have an additional patch next week, Patch 2.1 which will include the following changes:

Crafting Bench

  • We have a fix for the bench not upgrading to World Tier 5 in the works.
  • This will also fix the issue for players that have their crafting bench stuck in different World Tiers.

Characters getting stuck

  • We are trying to reproduce this internally. If you have more information on the topic, please share it with us (e.g. if you’re experiencing high latency).
  • We have one fix for players getting stuck in the revive animation.

Revive Hive

  • Made first improvements with TU2.
  • Another fix incoming to reduce more occurrences in 2.1.
  • We’ll apply more fixes in the future as needed.

True Patriot

  • Fix coming to address the two piece gear set bonus of True Patriot not working.

In addition, we’d like to provide everyone with insight into some of the larger conversations happening across all social channels:

Henry Hayes

  • We re-escalated Henry Hayes not being available for some players. This has been hard to fix for us and while some occurrences have been resolved, we continue to work on this

Worksite Community

  • We made a mistake in communication, this will be fixed with TU3. Sorry for the confusion.

Scarce Specialization ammo:

  • We have deployed a fix for this issue during today’s maintenance.

T-Poses

  • We’re working on a fix for this, both for the bounty screen as well as the NPC’s remaining in this position when you kill them, occurring more often since TU2.

Gear dropping below 500 gear score:

  • This was intentional but after hearing player feedback, we will look into potential changes in the future.
  • We understand that this concept is not working for everyone, and that the expectation is to always get max level gear score.
  • We know there are some things that are especially disappointing (e.g. crafted exotics or brand items).

Underperforming Gear Sets:

  • We appreciate the feedback on the green gear sets, but we want to give everyone more time to play with their rolls and discuss build opportunities.
  • If the trend towards not using them continues, we can make changes to them.
  • We do like the idea of gear-set-less builds to allow more build variety.

Underperforming Exotic Weapons:

  • We want exotic weapons to feel strong and powerful, and we feel that some non-exotic weapons overshadow them.
  • That being said, we would also like to hear more feedback about the exotic weapons:
    • Which exotics feel weak / not as powerful?
    • Why do they feel weak? (shooting, damage, etc)
    • Are there specific activities they feel weak in? (co-op, open world, pvp, missions)

Talents:

  • We want to give you a heads up that we’re looking at the performance of talents and have identified some that are too strong and some that are not popular because they are too weak. We will provide nerfs and buffs to talents in an upcoming patch. The goal here is also to allow you to choose the talents you want to play, without heavily increasing your time to kill. The changes to NPCs we’re talking about below will help with this, too.

Game difficulty:

  • There’s currently a bug with enemy AI being too aggressive, due to them not acknowledging player hit points correctly. We are currently investigating this as a top priority issue.
  • We’re looking into balancing armor and survivability a bit. Expect these tweaks to be included in the PTS testing, starting next week.
  • We want to increase protection for players sprinting and going cover to cover so they take less damage in a future patch. Here, the goal is to make re-positioning a viable tactical option.
  • We agree that hard, challenging and heroic mission NPCs can feel too spongy. We want to improve this and decrease the time to kill. We want to test this on the PTS next week, but are still talking about the exact changes.
  • We agree that Control Points on higher levels can feel too hard and that the NPCs can also feel too spongy. We’re talking about possible changes right now and will have more news on that soon.

PvP Balance:

  • We’ll have Red Storm on State of the Game next week to discuss PvP balance and upcoming changes.
  • Some of these changes can be tested on the PTS next week.

Inventory management:

  • We know it’s currently very difficult to keep track of all your items and want to add more filtering options in the future.
  • We want to allow you to recalibrate items from your stash.
  • We don’t think that salvaging talents will actually improve the situation, but rather move some of the pain points to other parts of the UI.

Blueprints:

  • We want to make them account-wide in the future.

Reset Timers:

  • We plan to consolidate everything to one timer, unless there are specific reasons otherwise.

Projects that require high-end items and not providing high-end rewards:

  • We’re looking into this and agree that it doesn’t seem to be working correctly.

Character appearance:

  • We will be working on an improvement for the barber (perhaps a different NPC) that will allow you to customize your character further. While we do want to talk about this we also want to let you know that this is further out and is not something coming to the game anytime soon!
    • Will allow you to change your Agent’s sex.
    • Bald hairstyle is planned.
    • Red hair color is planned.

Unable to leave Dark Zone:

  • This seems to be happening if you join a DZ session of a player that has not finished the DZ intro mission.
  • We had a fix for this go live with Invasion: Battle for D.C., which helped in some occurrences.
  • We’re working on another fix that should resolve this problem.

PC Performance:

  • We’re having difficulties reproducing some of the issues players are reporting so please send us more information:
    • Always send us DXdiag of your system.
    • Be precise with details when the performance issue is appearing.
    • NVIDIA will be providing new drivers that should help with the DX12 crashes.

Lastly, we want to address some balancing concerns from the community with insight from the development team:

Skill builds are underwhelming and require too much of an investment into Skill Power:
A: Skills innately scale with level and world tier to always be relevant. Boosts to skills from skill power come in the form of mods, where the player can pick their own improvements to the skills. We recently revamped the skill mods so that high end and purple mods have reasonable requirements for mid-level to all-in skill power builds.

What we will provide in the next patch is ways to craft blue skill mods to provide options for low Skill Power level builds. Further, the recent re-balance was somewhat conservative in terms of power level of the mods, and we recognize that currently, they don’t represent enough impact for the sacrifice made in other stats. We will be enhancing the effects of mods across the board in this next update. Our hope is that these further adjustments will make both full on and hybrid skill power builds more viable.

Tank builds do not feel viable as armor and health don’t seem to provide enough benefit and sustain:
A: We agree. It’s a complex issue to solve, but in the interest of transparency, here’s our thought process. The way to take the least damage in the game is to kill everything that could do damage to you. So the players damage output ends up also mitigating a lot of incoming damage in that indirect way. Further, the faster you burst an enemy down, the less time you have to spend popped up from cover. Added to that, we didn’t want to scale enemy health as much as their damage in harder content always to avoid as much of the “bullet sponge” syndrome as we could, and so damage output again gets another advantage over defensive stats when moving up in difficulty.

In the upcoming patch we will overhaul a large amount of talents. Further, we plan to increase the scale of defensive stats when they roll on gear, making each picked defensive roll much more impactful. Finally, we are looking at balancing, especially in higher difficulties across the board to adjust both lethality and TTK on the enemies for a better experience with more viable build options. The changes to defensive stats and the further adjustment to skill mods, we hope, will also contribute to healing being a more valuable and efficient thing to do for your team.

Yep, it seems Ubisoft Massive is knee deep in The Division 2 changes and fixes, and the community should appreciate it. For more on The Division 2, head on over to our game hub.

New Guerrilla Games Job Listing Implies Studio Is Working on Multiplayer, Could It Be for Killzone 5?

While Guerrilla Games might be most known now as the studio that developed the critically acclaimed, and commercial blockbuster success that was Horizon Zero Dawn, the studio started out as a developer of Sony’s Killzone franchise.

Given Horizon’s success, it’s safe to assume that a sequel is underway, but could the studio also be working on Killzone 5? Just last year, we ran a story that heavily implied that the studio is working on a title with a multiplayer component. Not only that, but the studio even hired Rainbow Six Siege developers for an unannounced project. Just to further add fuel to the fire that the studio is working on Killzone 5, a new job posting by Guerrilla Games once again implies that the studio is working on a title with online multiplayer as one its parts.

The job posting, which can be viewed here (via Reddit), states that Guerrilla is looking for a Java Developer, and under the “What Will You Do” part, it mentions “concurrent users,” “matchmaking,” and other stuff associated with multiplayer.

What Will You Do

  • You will build a robust backend that can scale up to serve many concurrent users;
  • You will work on systems like matchmaking, tournaments, clans and leaderboards;
  • You will cooperate with game designers to achieve the vision for the game;
  • You will work on systems to test and deploy a new server set without downtime;
  • You will integrate the game servers with the PlayStation Network and other third party services;
  • You will keep up to date with the Java world and introduce new technologies when they are relevant for Guerrilla;
  • If you are comfortable with C++, you can help integrate the back end services in the game client;

Those stuff listed there leaves no doubt that online multiplayer is somehow part of it all, right? The big question here is, is this for the next Killzone? Maybe Horizon Zero Dawn 2 will have an online multiplayer component of sorts? Or maybe this is for a new franchise altogether!

For reference, the last mainline Killzone game released was Killzone: Shadow Fall, which was released on the PS4 way back in November 2013, which is close to six years ago.

Would you want to see a new Killzone game from Guerrilla or would you prefer to see a new franchise from the studio?

Battlefield 5 New Game Modes and Traits for 5v5 Game Mode Leaked

It seems DICE needs a plumber as more Battlefield 5 info is being leaked once again! This time, it’s for Battlefield 5 new game modes, the Traits list for the upcoming 5v5 game mode!

Datamined by Reddit user temporyal, make sure to read up on the initial 5v5 game mode leak so you have a better understanding of what the mode is, what Traits are, and so on.

Upcoming (limited) Game Modes

Fortress

“Fortress is a Weekly Experience that uses 64-player Breakthrough as a base. Every aspect of the mode and the maps have been tuned to deliver the fantasy of a castle siege. The mad charge of advancing attackers on a fortified stronghold – or the desperate last stand of the defenders.”

  • Variation of Breakthrough on three maps (so far)
  • Devastation: Take or defend the Cathedral
  • Hamada: Take or defend the Fort
  • Rotterdam: No data available right now

Outpost

“Spread the word and find new recruits. In Outpost, you’ll secure and build objectives to ensure your team assembles enough soldiers to endure through the fight.”

  • Appears to be a form of “Conquest” but without flags
  • Instead you have to build and defend “Radio Towers” to earn recruits, score and requisition
  • Radio towers can be upgraded for faster point accumulation but (in contrast to flags in Conquest) don’t serve a spawn locations
  • Scouts and their spawn beacons are therefore a very nice asset for your squad
  • If you want to conquer an Outpost you have to destroy the enemy radio tower and build your own after that
  • Exact winning conditions are unclear so far (recruits)
  • Available for a limited time beginning June 6th

Invasion

“All out warfare: Defend your resources and destroy the enemy resources. Destroy enemy resources while protecting your own. Eliminate enemy troops and resources to win.”

5v5 Competitive Game Mode

  • Objectives in this mode are usually Capture Flags, Raid Caches, or Plant or Defuse Bombs
  • Respawns are often limited (depending on the game mode) but you can always squad spawn in by spending your team’s requisition
  • Medics are able to revive squad members even if they were taken out by a melee attack from behind
  • Only two trais for the scout commandos grant “unrevivable” kills (Ambush Kill / Stopping Power Headshot)
  • Spotting will play a more essential role as it is (alongside with other general things) taught by a tutorial mission
  • Blinding enemies with flashbangs (Captain) or tear gas (Panzerbüchse 39) are a new gameplay element

New 5v5 Game Mode Example

Here is quick overview for one of the 5v5 game modes called “Holdout” (the one from my initial post where you raid caches has another name – I messed that up).

  • Attacking Team: “Take the objective or eliminate the enemy. The defenders have limited respawns and earn points while they hold the objective.”
  • Defending Team: “Defend the objective until the end. You only have one life and you earn points for holding the objective as long as possible. “

Defenders only get one life per sector, but they can spend requisition to squad spawn on a teammate. Defenders only earn points if no attacker is contesting the point.

Commandos

  • In 5v5 each team has to choose Doctrines / Special Forces which come with a focus on Objectives, Teamwork or Aggressive Tactics and unique bonuses
  • All players then select their preferred sub class (called “Commando” or “Kit”) which features two unique traits
  • Doctrine and Commandos should therefore complement each other
  • You can change your commando at any time during the game and rank each one up (Proficiency I-II, Mastery I-II)

Commando Traits

Due to the lack of commando descriptions I’ve simply added a combination of lines for the Proficiency and Mastery ranks.

Raid Leader (Captain)

“To prove youself as a Raid Captain you need to demostrate the ability to think quickly in combat situations. A master Raid Captain strikes quickly and decisively, and leads their team with a sure hand.”

357 MAGNUM: Specialization Tree unlocks on your Sidearm that make it accurate, powerful, and quick to draw.

ON MY MARK: Allies near your flashbang gain an agility boost for 5 seconds after it detonates.

Control Leader (Captain)

“Time to learn the ins and outs of the battlefield – your team is relying on you. An experienced Control Captain demonstrates complete command and control of the battlefield.”

SIXTH SENSE: Sixth sense alerts you 3 seconds after you have been detected. Can only alert you once every 20 seconds.

SHARED SENSE: You grant allies within the radius of your spotting flare the sixth sense ability.

Support Leader (Captain)

Note: There is currently no data on the “Support Captain” available.

Range Assault (Assault)

“Learn to rain destruction on your enemies from afar. Pinpoint accuracy and superior firepower are the name of the day for Range Assaults.”

GAS BULLET: Panzerbüchse 39 bullets contain a tear gas capsule that blinds enemies in a small radius around the shot’s impact.

MINEFIELD: Deploying a mine deploys four mines in a circle around the initial mine

Saboteur (Assault)

“Learn to set charges and set them off – and maybe get out alive. A Saboteur should never be underestimated – never turn your back on them.”

OUT WITH A BANG: Detonate a dynamite charge on yourself when man down ends.

Note: Second trait is missing.

Shock Assault (Assault)

“Hit fast and hard, but try not to blow yourself up. Only peerless attackers qualify as Shock Assaults – through aggressive tactics and superior firepower.”

HEAL ON KILL: You instantly restore 30% of your health when you kill a enemy.

FIVE BULLET DEATH PUNCH: When you have 5 or fewer bullets in your weapon, your melee attacks will always perform a takedown.

Combat Medic (Medic)

“Sometimes a bandage and some covering fire is all you need to win the day. True Combat Medics stop at nothing to reach teammates in need.”

HEALTH STASH: Your allies are able to retrive Medical Pouches directly by interacting with you.

NEEDLE SHARPSHOOTER: You revive players instantly when using the Syringe.

Trauma Surgeon (Medic)

“Life and death – both are the trade of the Trauma Surgeon. The best Trauma Surgeons can bring people back from the brink of death.”

ADRENALINE: After reviving an ally, you and the revived ally sprint faster for a short duration.

INCOMING MEDIC: Your smoke grenades will slow the bleeding of downed allies within their radius for the duration of the smoke.

Combat Engineer (Support)

“The Combat Engineer can build and destroy with the best of them. The Combat Engineer is a master of destruction, construction, and reconstruction.”

SPECIAL BLUEPRINTS: You can construct searchlights and reinforced doors.

COOL CALM: Kills or Kill Assists reset the overheat on the Deploy-able MMG.

Grenadier (Support)

“Forget weapons and ammo – try grenades and launchers. Raining death from above (and everywhere else ) is the Grenadier’s specialty.”

TWO FOR ONE: You throw an additional grenade when you throw back grenades.

HOMECOOKED: Grenades can be cooked and you start with 2 additional grenades.

Gunner (Support)

“You’ll need to master every weapon there is to become a Gunner. Bristling with weapons, a Gunner can resupply you – or just take care of the job for you.”

LINKED AMMUNITION: While deployed your reserve ammo pool is added to the ammo in your weapon.

ADJUSTABLE BIPOD: The bipod can be deployed while crouching in addition to while prone or on cover.

Combat Sniper (Scout)

“A quick shot and a steady hand will serve you well here. The Combat Sniper is a master of up close and personal combat and long range engagements.”

STOPPING POWER: Your headshots with Bolt-Action rifles leave your victims un-revivable.

STRAIGHT PULL BOLT: You do not need to zoom out between shots, allowing for rapid follow-up shots.

Infiltrator (Scout)

“To make it as an Infiltrator, you have to learn to see and not be seen. They’ll never see you coming.”

AMBUSH KILL: Players killed from behind or the side are unrevivable and are not marked on the enemy’s map.

MAKE THEM SQUEAL: Melee takedowns are replaced with interrogation takedowns which mark the enemy’s entire squad on the map.

Tactician (Scout)

“Only the team’s Captain’s have a stronger grasp of the battlefield. Tacticians are always a few steps ahead – until they’re behind you with a knife in your back.”

TWO PLACES AT ONCE: When you are spotted, the last place you were spotted is also marked on the enemies’ map.

K BULLET: Your weapons have increased bullet penetration and damage to enemies behind objects.

Same as before, these are datamined info and as such, there’s no guarantee that these will make it into the game in this same state. For more leaked info, check ’em out below.

Users Reporting PS4 Friends List Issues After Yesterday’s PSN ID Change Option Was Rolled Out

While a ton of PlayStation gamers are no doubt happy with yesterday’s roll out of the PSN ID change option, it seems to have an unintended side effect that’s been a pain in the neck for some gamers.

Over on the PS4 subreddit, a bunch of people have chimed in and mentioned that they’ve encountered issues with their Friends list and setting up parties. Note that this is happening for both those who changed their PSN IDs, and for those who didn’t.

Gamers have reported different PS4 Friends list issues, with some unable to load their Friends list, while others keep getting an error code.

On another thread, some have reported not being able to connect online at all, even!

No word yet what’s causing this, but given how the PSN ID change feature was just rolled out yesterday, and people started having issues after it was available, it’s surmised that the two are connected somehow.

We’ve reached out to Sony and will update the post if and when we get a response.

Have you experienced any issues accessing your PSN Friends list after yesterday’s  PSN ID change was rolled out? If so, share your story in the comments below.
