In other PUBG news, the new Savage map was recently tested on the Closed Experimental Server, an argument as to whether PUBG is pay to win has been brought up again, and it’s been found that 30% of all PC gamers are playing battle royale titles.

Do favors for your inmates, build up your strength in the gym, or read books to increase your skills. Liberate items from your inmates to use for crafting weapons and tools (soap can do so much more than keep you clean). Unmechanical: Extended

Unmechanical: Extended is a great puzzle adventure game that combines tricky puzzle solving, alluring exploration, and an engrossing atmosphere, and is available for Xbox Game Pass members on May 1. Players can look forward to losing themselves in a world of flesh, rock, and steel, solving a whole host of puzzling challenges, helping our little robot who is trapped in an underground complex find his way to freedom.

Sonic & Knuckles

Hedgehog and Echidna unite! Enjoy a different experience in the world of Sonic where adversaries work as one. Join Sonic and Knuckles from May 1, as they put aside their differences and combine forces to thwart the schemes of the conniving Dr. Eggman. Their goal is to acquire the priceless Master Emerald and save Angel Island—a goal they cannot reach on their own. You can play as Sonic with amazing new powers or play as Knuckles with your wall-climbing skills or bare-fisted fighting style to defeat Dr. Eggman. You have eight zones to explore and two adventures to conquer. And to enhance the excitement you can combine with Sonic 3 to blow out the experience—playing as Sonic, Knuckles, and even Tails to unlock the best secrets. Also, you can combine with Sonic 2 and all of Knuckles signature moves are now yours.  Sometimes your enemy turns out to be your best friend!

Happy with that selection of games? Let us know.

Monster Hunter World Update 3.02 Rolls Out, Fixes Kulve Taroth Quest and More

If you turned on your console and found a new Monster Hunter World update waiting for you, don’t get too excited; there’s no new content, but there are a few noteworthy fixes. Clocking in at just 92MB, this Monster Hunter World update 3.02 fixes the Kulve Taroth quest and more.

The patch is now live for both PS4 and Xbox One, and you can check the official patch notes below.

Kulve Taroth Quest Line:

  • Fixed a bug where the Kulve Taroth Siege quest line would not progress correctly under certain conditions (specifically: if you speak to the Admiral out in the field when participating in another player’s instance of the “A Wound and a Thirst” or similar quests, after having collected Kulve Taroth traces but BEFORE having spoken to him separately in Astera). Players who have encountered this bug already can return to Astera and speak with the Admiral, triggering the council scene, after which the Kulve Taroth Siege will become available.
Great Sword Wyvern Ignition “Impact”:
  • Fixed a bug where the great sword Wyvern Ignition “Impact” saw its fire elemental attack value unintentionally reduced to 240. The value has been reset to 510. The armor skill “Free Element/Ammo Up” is still a requirement for unlocking the fire elemental attack of this weapon.
First Wyverian Statistics:
  • Fixed some bugs in the data collection for the statistical summaries given to you by speaking to the First Wyverian (weapon usage, number of monsters slain, etc.). Data will be progressively reset starting on April 26. For the duration, the First Wyverian will not give out any statistical information, but this should not affect gameplay in any other way. Please note that the statistical data may be low in accuracy for a short time after the process has finished.

You can check here for the big patch that included a lot of new content.

Epic Games Acknowledges Fortnite Tilted Towers Comet Theories

Theories surrounding the Fortnite Tilted Towers destruction at the hands of a falling comet have been circling the internet, with doomsayers certain that the popular landing zone will soon face annihilation. Up until now, Epic Games has been silent about the potential destruction of Tilted Towers.

In the latest Fortnite 3.6 update, Epic Games added signs that directly reference the comet and Tilted Towers. In a possible nod towards the Independence Day movie, the following signs were added to the Tilted Towers area:

Fortnite Tilted Towers Comet

Despite acknowledging the fan theories, Epic Games hasn’t yet confirmed that a comet will come crashing down, or whether or not Tilted Towers will be a target. For now, the developer just seems to be teasing the rumor spreaders with these Easter eggs.

In other Fortnite news, the game’s April Fool’s Day event was subtle yet fun, players can now get a refund for unwanted skins, and Epic Games is considering adding a Gun Game mode.

Sea of Thieves Update 1.05 Patch Notes:

Updates

  • New Message from Beyond – The Ferryman was unhappy with the text that had been written describing how to ‘Scuttle’ a ship, so he made them write a better version – and then walk the plank.

  • UI Improvements – Images in the Vanity & Clothing Chests now load gracefully when browsing. In addition all UI screens now fade in when opened – Fancy!

Fixed Issues

  • Resolved issues where Skeleton Fort or Bounty Quest Skeletons failed to spawn correctly.
We have been resolving these spawning issues across the last 2 updates (1.0.3, 1.0.4), however with this update (1.0.5) we have now resolved all known reported spawning issues. If you find any further problem islands, please log a Support Ticket noting the island and we will investigate further.

Players who were experiencing the Single Weapon Slot issue will now be resolved as soon as they load into game. No more early visits to the Ferryman required!
  • Ships will no longer ping up into the sky when sinking.
In loving memory of the sky ships. This was our favourite!
  • [PC] Push to talk option will no longer reset to default (disabled) between sessions.
  • “You Can Always Trust The Untrustworthy” achievement can now be unlocked.
  • Kraken is no longer able to spawn around rocks.

  • Wrong company icon is no longer incorrectly displayed for a split second if user is trying to get XP from 2 different companies.
  • It is no longer possible to drop behind the bar and get stuck in the Pirate Hideout.
  • Updates to incorrect NPC dialogue lines.
  • Getting into a cannon then getting back out should no longer skip the Tutorial.
  • Players just outside the inky murk will now hear Kraken fight audio when it attacks other ships.
  • Resolved issue where players could hear repeating audio SFX.
  • Resolved issue where Gunpowder kegs could spawn outside of player reach.

Performance Improvements

  • Fixed a potential client deadlock when encountering a networking error.
  • Multiple server crash fixes.
Further improvements and optimisations for all platforms are ongoing.

H1Z1 PS4 Beta Release Date Set for May 22, Full Game Will Be Free to Play

In a press release, Daybreak Games has announced that the H1Z1 PS4 beta release date is set for May 22! What’s more, the full game will be free-to-play. According to Daybreak Games, the PS4 version of the original battle royale game has been designed specifically for the console, and will have a new weapons, weapons progression system and more.

Regarding the controls and how it translates from PC to PS4, Daybreak has mentioned that the studio has “re-imagined” the game for the PS4, and have designed it to keep the focus on the action.

“The control scheme for H1Z1 on PS4 has been tailor-made to keep players focused on the action. H1Z1 now features a grab-and-go equipment system, simplifying loot collection and inventory management; a familiar radial weapon menu so players can quickly switch between guns and grenades; and a revamped HUD that delivers vital information at-a-glance. The crafting system has also been removed from the game.”

Playing hand-in-hand with the new controls will be the new progression mechanics, and even gas pacing has been tweaked to speed up matches, and the airdrop system revamped to keep players more invested in fights.

“With the new weapon progression mechanics, players only have access to loot six level-one weapons at the start of the match and must strategically decide which airdrops to pursue if they want better level weapons and gear. Mass airdrops are released throughout the map, through which players may pick up familiar weapons like the AK and AR, as well as the new KH43, Marauder, Combat Shotgun, CNQ-09, Scout Rifle and MK46. Airdrops serve as the primary way to secure higher powered armor, which have been retooled to provide players with a health bonus.”

“While airdrops will be the primary method to secure leveled-up gear, special crates that contain level 2 and level 3 weapons and gear have been hidden throughout the map. Players with a more passive strategy may diligently search the world for these rare crates, which emit a low radio chatter and signal beacon when they are in proximity.”

H1Z1 on the PS4 will run at 60 frames-per-second on the PS4 Pro. While the open beta has been dated for May 22, a closed beta weekend will also start this month, and interested players can sign up here for a chance to take part in the mayhem.

Lastly, starting today and running until May 22, 2018, players can pre-order a special H1Z1 bundle for $29.99 for unique in-game cosmetic items that will be granted at the start of the open beta. This bundle will also include a dynamic theme which will be available the moment you purchase it. If you’re a PS Plus member, the bundle will cost 20 percent less.

New Xbox One Update Adds 120fps Support, “Groups” Feature & More

A new Xbox One update is scheduled to release in May, bringing 120fps / 120Hz support to the consoles, adding a new “Groups” feature to help users organize their library of games and apps, and more.

Read up on the highlighted list of new Xbox One update features below:

New Xbox One Update May 2018

120Hz Comes to Consoles

In April, we added variable refresh rate, 1440p resolution support, and auto low latency mode. But we aren’t done just yet. In May, we’re adding support for additional panel refresh rates. Gamers with gaming monitors and televisions that support a 120Hz refresh rate can now turn on 120Hz support for 1080p and 1440p output resolutions. This high refresh rate option means you can now take full advantage of displays with 120Hz capabilities.

Group Your Games and Apps

Our fans asked for new ways to organize their library of games and apps. In response, we’re introducing a powerful new enhancement to Pins which we call “Groups.” With Groups, you can create multiple collections of content made up of anything from within My games & apps. You can also assign custom names to each Group, organize and order them, and add individual Groups to Home. Groups will appear across My games & apps, Home, and Guide, so you’ll be able to access your Groups at a moment’s notice. Best of all, Groups are tied to your account, so they will automatically sync across multiple Xbox One consoles. We’ve started you off with a Group that should look very familiar — your Pins!

We’re doing something a little different with the rollout of this feature: Groups will not initially be enabled for everyone in the Alpha ring. In order to gauge interest and collect feedback, we will instead gradually roll out Groups over time within Alpha.

Trim Clips Directly in the Guide

Last month, we added a new sharing feature that helps gamers upload their captured screenshots and videos directly to Twitter. This month, we’re improving on the sharing experience even further; you can now trim your recent game captures directly from the Guide, so you won’t need to switch to Upload Studio to make a quick cut to your saved clips.

Improved Family Settings

Xbox One is also helping parents keep their family safe with updates to family settings. We’re adding a “Details” page where parents can easily find and manage all family settings on Xbox One. Parents will easily be able to tell which family and content settings are set up and configured. Important setting that are turned off or require attention will be flagged as well. Some settings, such as activity reports and screen time limits, can only be accessed through the web: We’ll identify those settings and provide links where parents can easily set them up.

Improvements to the Xbox Accessories App

We’re also modernizing the Xbox Accessories app to make it easier to navigate, and to look and feel more consistent with the rest of the Xbox One dashboard.

Intuitive Button Commands

We’re also making changes to some of the button commands throughout the dashboard. For example, you can now use the View button on Home to edit the order of blocks or reorder items within Groups.  Pressing the “View” button on the main tab of the Guide will also now display additional capture options. If you group your collections in My games and apps by letter, you will now need to select a letter to view all groups.

In other Xbox news, May’s Games With Gold titles have been revealed. Check them out here.

Mysterious PS4 Update 5.53-01 Rolls Out

Turn on your PlayStation 4 consoles, people! There’s a new PS4 system software update, and it’s a weird one. Weirdly named as PS4 update 5.53-01 (yes, not a typo), it’s just 69MB in size, and what’s more, my PS4 Pro didn’t even reboot when it was installed.

Usually, a PS4 firmware update meant that after downloading, the console would power down, reboot, and then apply the patch. Not so for this one. It just showed a black screen, showed it was being installed, and I was back in the menus of the PS4 again. Heck, it didn’t even “kill off” my suspended God of War play session!

Checking on Reddit, one user has mentioned that the PlayStation Plus sector in their Library is now working after this update, since before it, it didn’t show all his PS+ games. Of course, the standard “This system software update improves system performance” line is being bandied about by Sony once again.

What’s weird here is the naming used; since as far as I know, this is the first time (ever) that Sony used a “01” in a system software update. Is this a naming error? Premature release? Once we know more about this, we’ll be sure to let people know. But then again, chances are this is just a super minor patch to fix a small technical issue that’s as uneventful as the other system software roll outs.

If you notice anything out of the ordinary, please leave a comment below.

Capcom Bringing Back Dead Rising Franchise

While Dead Rising 4 didn’t exactly set the sales charts on fire, it seems Capcom is still bent on bringing a new entry to the franchise with a new Dead Rising game. This little nugget was buried under the Puzzle Fighter announcement that the mobile game was set to close.

Over on Capcom’s blog, Capcom Game Studio Vancouver made the announcement that due to the studio focusing on the Dead Rising franchise, Puzzle Fighter, which was also developed by the studio, will be shutting down.

As the studio is dedicating its focus to our flagship Dead Rising franchise, we have decided to sunset Puzzle Fighter. The game will be removed from app stores on July 1 and servers will be shut down on July 31. The game will still be playable until July 31 and today we are gifting all players 10,000 in-game gem currency. We are also making upcoming characters (Regina, Dr. Wily and Ada Wong) and stages (Darminor and Uroboros Laboratory) available for free for fans to enjoy up until this time. Regina and Dr. Wily will be available in-game later today, while Ada Wong and the new stages will be released on Monday April 23. Later today the game’s soundtrack will also be available to stream online for free via SoundCloud. In addition, the previous Classic Mode special limited event will be available at all times up until the server closure.

Is this a new Dead Rising game? Given how Dead Rising 4 hardly made waves, I doubt it’s DLC. Cue in zombie/dead and coming back to life jokes here, folks! Don’t forget, there was a report just this February that Capcom cut down the scope and staff for the Dead Rising franchise, so don’t be surprised if this one being worked on by Capcom Vancouver is a mobile game.

Battlefield 1 New Weapons Found in Datamined Files

Following DICE’s announcement that Battlefield 1 will be supported with monthly patches until June 2018, it seems the studio will be introducing new weapons to the game. The Battlefield 1 new weapons are part of a datamine of the game’s files, which means they are in the game’s code.

Check out the six new Battlefield 1 weapons below.

  • Fedorov Degtyarev prototype automatic rifle
  • Mosin Nagant M38 Carbine
  • Single Action Service Revolver
  • Thompson Annihilator prototype SMG
  • Thompson M1919 prototype SMG
  • Winchester Burton LMR (Light Machine Rifle)

Note that there’s no guarantee that these weapons will make their way into the game at all. These might be leftover code or something, but chances are, this should make its way into onto players’ hands. We’ve already gotten free maps, so why not more free weapons, no?

Detroit: Become Human Preview – Android Life

Two weeks ago, Sony Computer Asia held a press-only preview event for Quantic Dream’s Detroit: Become Human, which MP1st was fortunate enough to be a part of. During our time with the meaty demo, we got to experience the three protagonists’ story line Detroit had, and of course, managed to try out the gameplay.

If you’re curious how Detroit: Become Human plays, or just want to understand what makes it different from the developer’s past games like Heavy Rain, and Beyond: Two Souls, then you’ve come to the right place. Note that we won’t talk about the story elements or variations we’ve experience, as Detroit is a narrative-driven game, and we want players to experience it first-hand.

Lifelike

First thing you’ll notice out of the gate? It’s how gorgeous Detroit: Become Human looks. Sure, there’s still some semblance of the “uncanny valley,” but for the most part, each main character (protagonist, antagonist, etc.) has fantastic animation, textures, and look very photorealistic.

While the actual movement (done by the left analog stick) has that animated, video game-y look, the animations that play out when inspecting items, interacting with objects and such, are very fluid, and is undoubtedly Quantic Dream’s best work on motion-capture so far. Given we were told that motion-capture work for the game took more than an entire year (this is just for mo-cap alone), then it’s not that surprising.

Adding to the overall immersion is the audio work. Thankfully, the voice acting is leagues above Heavy Rain. Based on what I played so far, each character’s actor managed to nail what’s happening on screen. Humans and androids have their own vocal cadence that are distinct, but not to the point that it’s distracting. The dialogue has been more than adequate so far as well, and I haven’t heard any cheesy one-liners or any of the sort — at least so far.

Narrative-Driven Gameplay

If you’ve played Quantic Dream’s past games then you know what to expect, and this title is no different. Detroit: Become Human is a narrative-driven, story-heavy game that eschews traditional gameplay mechanics to ensure the player is immersed in the world they’re in. By this point, you’re either a fan of the studio’s games or you’re not.

Fortunately for me, I’m a sucker for these types of games. Having said that, Quantic did make a few big changes so players aren’t just walking to an object and pressing a button. For starters, there’s a a unique “re-create” mechanic present for androids that gives us a re-enactment of a previous event based on the situation available to us. You can choose to not do this, or you might miss a few, but doing so will mean that you won’t know the entire story, and worse, miss out on dialogue options.

Speaking of options, there’s a lot more to interact with in Detroit compared to past games by the studio. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still a slow, methodical game that rewards exploration and inquisitive minds, but now we have a lot of branching paths when it comes to the story’s outcome. Each chapter you play has numerous variations which you can revisit once you’re done. Once you finish a chapter, you’ll be given a summary of what you did, splintering paths that you either didn’t do or didn’t have access to and so on. It should bump up the replayability factor a lot. And when you add in the countless numbers of endings (we were told there are hundreds of variations), that means you’ll be experimenting with different scenarios for quite some time.

AI

If you’ve made it this far and noticed that I haven’t touched on anything pertaining the story, well, it’s by choice. I’ll refrain from sharing anything that might ruin the game, and given it’s so story-driven, players will want to experience it fresh (so watch out for spoilers!).

Detroit: Become Human has three protagonists: Kara, an android who very eerily resembles actress Jennifer Lawrence and is slowly becoming sentient; Connor, who’s an android himself but is tasked to rope in malfunctioning androids; and Markus, a human who wants to release androids from being slaves. Each of the three main characters have their own separate stories that can (or not, depending on you) intertwine at some point. According to Quantic, these characters can even die during the course of the game depending on the choices you make.

Believe me when I say this: the less you know of Detroit’s story and plot outcomes, the better.

Man and Machine

There’s no denying it: either you’re a fan of Quantic Dream’s type of gameplay or you’re not. If you aren’t, Detroit might not change your mind. However, if you’re someone who appreciates fantastic audio video work, a (so far) gripping story, and value unique experiences over twitch gameplay, then you’re in for a treat.

Will Detroit: Become Human bridge the gap between man and machine when it comes to sentience? I can’t say for sure. But what I do know is I can’t wait to see it unfold for myself when Detroit becomes available this May 25, 2018 exclusively for the PlayStation 4.
