Fortnite 4.0 Update Patch Notes: New Locations, Skins and More

The Fortnite 4.0 update patch notes are now available for players to read, ahead of the new Season 4 content. The comet has indeed hit a key location, resulting in some significant transformations.

Enough chatter, here are the Fortnite 4.0 update patch notes:

Fortnite 4.0 Update Patch Notes:

BATTLE ROYALE

BRACE FOR IMPACT! NEW MAP UPDATE
Shards of the comet have crashed! Many locations have been transformed by its impact. Discover all new points of interest, or find your favorite landing spot changed.

HOP ROCKS
The comet has left a scar on the island… Visit the crater and you’ll find glowing rocks all around.

Consume them and lift off with low gravity!

General

  • Input settings are now filtered based on game mode.
  • They’ve also been grouped by category (Combat, Building, Editing, etc.) to make it easier to search through them.
  • Added icons for the tabs at the top of the Settings screen.
  • Added “Ignore Gamepad Input” option to the Accessibility settings tab.
  • This setting can be helpful to players who use external programs to remap their controller input and need the game to ignore the controller input.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a crash when using radial menus.
  • Improved texture streaming behavior when using a scope.
  • Fixed some objects being rendered using low resolution textures.
  • Fixed weapon ammo count display in the HUD sometimes being incorrect.

Known Issues

  • Wanting to track the top community issues? Head over to our Fortnite | Community Issues Trello board here.
  • Tracking for the Self Refund issue can be found here.

Gameplay

  • Structures on the starting island can now be destroyed. Not the Battle Bus, though.
  • Headshots are now prioritized when other body parts are in the way.
  • Incoming headshots (from above or straight on) will no longer be blocked by your character’s other body parts.
  • For example, a shot that hits your target’s hand will be able to penetrate through and hit their head if your aim was on point. You’ll be credited headshot damage instead of normal damage.
  • Headshots from below that are blocked by a body part (legs, torso, hands, shoulders, arms) will do normal damage, except for impacts very close to your character’s head.
  • This change affects all weapons, except for the Rocket Launcher and Grenade Launcher.
  • Slightly reduced the hitbox size of player hands.
  • Damage numbers are now visible when spectating a player.
  • Knocking a player off the island will award elimination credit like normal fall damage.
  • Fall distance is now shown in the elimination feed when a player is forced to fall by an opponent.
  • On the starting island, you can now see other players (and player-created structures) about three times further away than before.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue that would cause player built structures to appear intact for a few seconds after eliminating an enemy and destroying the structure at the same time.
  • This caused players to “phase through” the structure.
  • Fixed cases where pickups moved erratically when sliding down slopes.
  • Fixed an issue where destroying a building from under an enemy wouldn’t award kill credit.
  • Fixed an issue where swinging the pickaxe could cause movement stuttering.
  • Fixed an issue where some pre-placed wooden archways could not be destroyed by player built structures.
  • Fixed an issue that made the Battle Bus appear to quickly fly off the map after jumping from it.
  • Fixed an issue that would pause a downed players health bar if their reviver disconnected while reviving them.

UI

  • You can now mark cosmetic items as favorites in the Locker.
  • ‘Random’ option added to each cosmetic equipment slot in the Locker.
  • This will randomly choose between items you’ve marked as favorites each match (or from all owned items if nothing is marked as a favorite).
  • You are no longer limited to just the 6 slots on your emote wheel for Sprays and Emotes and can now use any of the ones you own in a match!
  • The Locker slots act as a page of presets, but you can cycle through to any emotes marked as a favorite and then all emotes, sorted by type (PS4: L1/R1; XB1: LB/RB; PC:Mouse Wheel; Mobile: Buttons added next to radial menu).
  • Added new “Locker Emote Slot” button bindings, which allow you to immediately trigger any of your 6 Emote or Spray presets.
  • While Auto Run is active, an icon is now displayed.
  • Improved the look and feel of the Game options tab.
  • Slightly decreased the size of the arrow over players heads when they are close to you.
  • The fourth and fifth weapon slots will now default to keys 5 and 6 instead of Z and X when using the “Reset to Defaults” option.
  • The 4:3 aspect ratio is now supported.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where the compass showed ‘360’ when it should have been ‘359’.
  • Fixed an issue where players could get stuck on the Inventory screen when opening and closing it very quickly multiple times in a row.
  • Fixed an issue where the “Show Net Stats” HUD option would be reset to off after restarting the game.
  • Fixed an issue that caused consumable timers to not display when using a consumable immediately after canceling one.
  • Fixed a spelling error in the description for Tomatohead.
  • The Squad Comms wheel can now be closed with circle on PS4 controllers, and B on Xbox controllers.
  • Weapon slot keybinding options are no longer called “Ability Slots” in the input menu.

Weapons + Items

  • The Crossbow has been vaulted.
  • Rocket Launcher aim reticle is now a fixed size regardless of player movement.
  • Hit markers are now displayed when looking through a scope.
  • Increased pickaxe damage against Supply Llamas, now dealing 50 damage per hit.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where a weapon could have no ammo when dropping it immediately after picking it up.
  • Improved pickaxe swing responsiveness when switching from a weapon to the pickaxe and immediately holding the swing button.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented Hunting Rifles from auto reloading if it was fired immediately after a reload.
  • Fixed an issue that allowed grenades to be thrown in rapid succession while sprinting.
  • Fixed an issue where aiming a grenade throw and then switching to build mode wouldn’t cancel the throw.
  • Fixed an issue with the Builder Pro configuration that caused the players weapon to fire while trying to build in some cases.
  • Clingers will now properly cling to falling Supply Drops.

Replay System

  • Added an in-game player list to Replays.
  • Leaving a Replay will now take you back to the Replay browser.

  • Their equip timing remains the same.
  • The dust cloud that appears on player landings now shows for all players.
  • Storm wind now affects trees within the storm.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue that caused Back Bling to display improperly after using a Launch Pad.
  • Players can now emote while rocket riding.

Audio

  • Adjusted timing on the equip sounds for all Shotguns. The cocking sound will now occur right before the weapon is able to fire.
  • Improved volume difference between soft and hard landing sounds.
    • Players falling from 1 or more stories will land with a louder audio cue.
  • Added unique impact sounds when hitting shrubs, bushes and cornstalks.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue that caused footstep audio to play when players were mid-air after jumping.
  • Fixed an issue where the Minigun equip sound would persist after quickly switching away from it.
  • The map marker sound no longer plays when removing a marker.

Performance

  • Improved smoothness of other players movement on the starting island by increasing network update rates.
  • Made significant performance improvements when many players are on-screen by reducing the impact of character parts.
  • Optimized hitches that occur when garbage collecting objects.
  • Fixed hitches that could happen in games where lots of building occurred.
  • Optimized Level-of-Detail (LOD) for buildings in Shifty Shafts and Flush Factory.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 1.28 Patch Now Live, New Weapons & Prop Hunt Might Be Coming

With Treyarch set to take the reins for this year’s Call of Duty, it seems the studio wants people to know just how much they support their titles post-launch, as there’s a new Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 patch now live!

The full Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 1.28 patch notes can be seen below (via Activision):

GLOBAL

General

  • General stability updates.
  • Fixed an issue where some downloadable Multiplayer and Zombies maps were not playable offline.

MULTIPLAYER

Maps

  • Redwood Snow
    • Fixed miscellaneous collision issues and exploitable locations.

Game Modes

  • Infected
    • Fixed an issue where the end of game victory banner might display the wrong color.

ZOMBIES

GobbleGums

  • The Whimsical GobbleGums Projectile Vomiting and Newtonian Negation will now be available to owners of the a la carte Gorod Krovi and Revelations maps, respectively.

Additionally, CharlieIntel has the scoop of some new stuff not mentioned in the patch notes. For one thing, there are new weapons inside the title update that can be seen in Local Play. It’s currently unknown when (or if) these new weapons will be playable in live servers. There’s also a new section in the leaderboards for the “Prop Hunt” game mode, though it’s not live in the game just yet.

Once the new weapons and Prop Hunt are live, we’ll be sure to let you know.

Remedy New Game to Be Revealed at E3 2018

If you’re a fan of Remedy’s games (Quantum Break, Alan Wake), then you’re in for a treat come June! Being published by 505 Games, the Remedy new game is finally confirmed to be making its debut at this year’s E3!

Contrary to the studio’s past games, their latest title — codenamed P7 (Project 7) — won’t be exclusive to Microsoft’s console, and will instead be released on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. In addition to the reveal, it’s now confirmed that the game will be playable (at least to gaming media) on the show floor.

Financial reports from Remedy mention that the new game will be released sometime in 2019, with the unnamed title having Destiny-like online elements. Our latest report from last year mention that Remedy could be working on a multiplayer game, though the studio has two games in development, so it’s uncertain whether this one is P7 or the other game.

Once we know more details regarding Remedy’s new title, we’ll be sure to our readers know.

First-Party Studios Unlikely to Focus on Xbox Battle Royale

The idea of an Xbox battle royale game being developed by a first-party studio isn’t a ridiculous idea, as everyone seems to be wanting a slice of that BR pie. However, in a tweet response to a fan, Xbox boss Phil Spencer stated that “unless [Xbox] finds something special in [first-person] that’s a different take,” an Xbox battle royale title is unlikely to happen.

Of course, that’s not a complete “no,” and it’s possible that Xbox first-party studios may start working on a more unique take on the genre.

In other Xbox news, May’s Games With Gold titles have been revealed. Check them out here. Also, new Xbox Game Pass titles have been announced for release in May.

H1Z1 Developer Daybreak Games Hit With Layoffs

While H1Z1 is poised to hit the PlayStation 4 very soon, not everything is going well with the studio behind the game, Daybreak Games. In a statement sent out to media, Daybreak Games has confirmed that the studio has been hit with layoffs.

“Daybreak confirms we are realigning our workforce to better position our company for the future. Because of this, we have had to make an extremely difficult decision to part ways with some of our employees across various disciplines at the studio. We are doing everything we can to take care of each affected individual by providing them appropriate transition assistance.”

The studio however states that they are  “focused on publishing and developing large-scale online games and will continue to service our existing and long-standing games and franchises.”

Just last month, Daybreak Games announced that H1Z1 will be going free-to-play on PC, which was no doubt spurred by heavy competition against the likes of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and Fortnite.

We wish everyone that got affected the best of luck and hope they land on their feet soon.

Treyarch Teases Return of Pick 10 System for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4

Possibly one of the biggest changes made by Sledgehammer Games with last year’s Call of Duty: WWII was the omission of the “Pick 10” loadout system that was introduced by Treyarch. While Sledgehammer Games did kind of revert the loadout system back to something similar, it still didn’t offer the same level of customization as the tried and tested Pick 10.

Well, if this latest teaser from Treyarch is to be believed, Pick 10 is coming back for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4! Over on Twitter, the official Treyarch account  posted a tweet saying that they give a fan’s tweet of “In Treyarch we trust.” a 10/10, with an image also showing 10 squares with 10/10 shown.

Obviously, the 10/10 thing could mean something else, but the easiest assumption to make is that this means Pick 10 is coming back. If so, I don’t doubt that I’m the only Call of Duty fan who’s ecstatic about it.

In other Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 news, the game will reportedly not have a traditional single-player campaign, and what’s more, there’s said to be a battle royale mode taking its place.

Sea of Thieves Player Count Totaled 2 Million in First Month

The Sea of Thieves player count totaled over 2 million during its launch month of March. According to market research group SuperData, there were over 1.7 million players on Xbox One, and 283,000 active users on PC.

While those figures might seem impressive, it’s worth remembering that Sea of Thieves was available as part of the Xbox Game Pass, giving subscribers free access to the game. SuperData reports that “more than half” of people playing had an active Game Pass subscription, meaning less than 1 million players actually paid for Sea of Thieves.

These are third-party reports, of course, and Microsoft may shed some more light on Sea of Thieves‘ success in the near future. At the very least, the game worked well as a means to introduce users to the Xbox Game Pass, which is set to continue to feature big new releases.

In other Sea of Thieves news, Rare has pulled back on its earlier plans of putting a death tax for players who die in-game. Check out why they pulled that back, and what’s coming soon for the pirate game here.

Fortnite Meteors Are Crashing Down, Act Similarly to PUBG Red Zone

Fortnite meteors are finally starting to fall in the game’s Battle Royale component. Several users have managed to capture the comets falling using the Replay System. As they fall towards the ground, the meteorites destroy anything in their path. They don’t yet do any damage to players, but they do wipe out any buildings and player-created structures.

For those that have played PUBG, you may be reminded of that game’s Red Zone, in which missiles fall and take out anything unlucky enough to be in their path. Perhaps the Fortnite meteors have been inspired by that?

Here are some examples of the Fortnite comets falling:

In other Fortnite news, the game’s April Fool’s Day event was subtle yet fun, players can now get a refund for unwanted skins, and Epic Games is considering adding a Gun Game mode.

New Attack on Titan 2 Update Adds “Destruction” Online Mode

A new Attack on Titan 2 update has been rolled out, implementing the new Destruction mode to the game. This mode features six players fighting each other for the top score. Players will be able to disrupt their enemies to stop them getting points.

Here’s what you need to know about the Attack on Titan 2 online mode:

Attack on Titan 2 Destruction Mode Details

Basic rules of Destruction Mode

Compete for points by beating as many titans as possible within the alotted time. Severing arms and legs first before killing the titan will net more points.

Ten Ability Types

Players can choose from the ten Ability Types that will determine their stats, skills, and items. Some examples of these types are Throwing type, which carries Molotov cocktails and can throw discarded blades, and Surprise type which can aim for kill-stealing titans whose body parts had been severed by others.

Items that obstruct opponents

This mode will have items that impede opponent progress such as Stun and Paint grenades, but there will be also items available to prevent them.

Opposing Titans

Enemy titans from the original work, including the likes of Female Titan and Armored Titan, will also appear. They have very high abilities and cannot be fought with half-baked strategies, but those who can kill them will be rewarded a lot of points.

Comeback chance

At the last minute of the match, the points obtained will be doubled. Players can make use of this feature to make a comeback.

Will you be playing the new Destruction mode? Let us know.
