PUBG Player Count Now at Over 800K, Beats CS: GO and Dota 2

Earlier this month, we reported that PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (or more commonly known as PUBG) has managed to sell over seven  million copies, and had over 600,000 concurrent players. Well, it seems that number is old news.

If you check Steam Charts, PUBG has now topped over 800,000 concurrent players! You read that right! It’s less than 200,000 player shy of a million people all playing PUBG at the same time. What’s more, it even beat out perennial heavyweights Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS: GO) and Valve’s Dota 2!

Check out some of the numbers from earlier today.

Could PUBG sustain this astronomic up-tick? We can’t say for sure since some games do flame out once the initial honeymoon phase has stopped, but for now, PUBG is king of PC gaming and it’s really odd to say that.

For more PUBG news, check out the game’s new desert map, and don’t forget, there will be no more scheduled weekly and monthly title updates given its doing more harm than good to the studio and the game.

Once PUBG crosses over the one million mark, we’ll let you know.

Call of Duty: WWII Audio Tips Teach You How to Hear Footsteps

Update:

The game has been recently updated to fix some audio issues. You’ll now want to set your options as:

  • Music – Disabled
  • Announcer – Enabled
  • Battle Chatter – Enabled
  • Hit Feedback – Disabled

Original Story:

Footstep noise has always been a big part of Call of Duty, and many other shooters, as it helps locate players who haven’t yet come into view. Wearing headphones and being able to track enemy sounds is huge when it comes to staying alive and getting kills that you otherwise might not get.

If you want to optimize your audio, and be able to hear the opposition, have a watch of the video above!

EA: Our Metric of Success Is “Player Happiness” and Not Revenue

While EA is known to be one of the world’s largest video game publishers, the company isn’t really known to be likable. Heck, it  was named “Worst Company in America” twice! Whether it’s shoehorning microtransactions, or forcing Season Pass on gamers, EA hasn’t been what you call “loved” by the gaming populace.

Well, that might be changing soon, if it hasn’t already. Not only are EA-published games like Titanfall 2 dropping Season Passes, but even the publisher’s biggest games are getting a lot of free post-launch content. Is this a new shift for the publisher, then?

In an interview with MCV, EA EVP of Global Publishing Laura Miele has mentioned that the company’s focus on live services has shifted the entire brand’s business point of view. Now, their metric of success isn’t the dollar bottom line, but “player happiness.”

There is an obligation that we have to players to keep content fresh and keep the services well rounded. We really feel like we earn our players’ time over the period of their game playing cycles. We look at our Net Promoter Score (NPS) monthly for all our games and I would say that has changed our perspective on the success metric. The relationship [between players and EA’s games], their happiness, their NPS score, are our number one primary success metrics for the company now. It’s no longer revenue. That has evolved how people feel about our games and, ultimately, how they feel about EA.

Miele adds that this is a “golden era” of gaming right now, where “players” are the center of their business strategies, game design and execution.

Internally at EA, we now measure player sentiment and player engagement over dollars or unit sales. We really have taken a really significant shift. We had players at our studio helping us to create [Battlefield 1’s new competitive gaming mode] and that’s why I think it’s a golden era for players, because they have such a strong voice in what we are creating.

Is this true? One can hope, right? Let’s hope players remind EA of these statements if and when they do something anti-consumer in the future.

Do you believe this EA exec’s statements? Has EA improved their business model over the few years or have they been the same?

Call of Duty: WWII to Have Bumper Jumper Config, Colorblind Support, Outlines Balance Tweaks

In case you weren’t aware, the Call of Duty:WWII private is currently on-going now on the PlayStation 4. While it is a beta, which means it’s a work in progress, players will no doubt a thing or two they want changed.

If you’re one of those people, then you might want to hop on to the COD: WWII subreddit now since Sledgehammer Games boss Michael Condrey has outlined some of the balance tweaks they’re already looking to implement, as well as a few additions to the game that will be present in the final version.

One of the biggest changes we made today was to correct a bug with the end of match transition that was causing a delay with the lobby load. You should see a large improvement, with continued optimizations still to come. In addition, here are some closing thoughts for the day:

  • We love the positive reactions to the new overhead camera eSports feature. In response to feedback about visibility of objectives, especially Hardpoints, we are currently working on solutions for launch.
  • Some players are reporting getting trapped in an update loop after they are prompted to restart their game to complete an update of the client. We have been resolving these through basic troubleshooting and are investigating further steps.
  • You have asked about a color blind setting in the menu. While not in the Beta, we have been working to have this for launch.
  • In response to all the requests for bumper jumper configuration, we also plan to support this for launch.
  • We’ve heard your feedback regarding playlist variety, and have made some adjustments to improve this. You know what else would improve it? More maps and modes. ☺
  • We’ve heard your feedback on the Paratroopers Scorestreak having some edge case issues. We made some adjustments today, but they didn’t address the core issue in the way we wanted. We’ve got new fixes coming soon.
  • We are investigating a bug that causes some players to be kicked back to the Main Menu after accepting an invite from the load screen of any map.
  • There is a bug causing the title to crash when an invitee accepts an invite while entering a match when the inviter is also entering the match.
  • Some of you have noted that the incendiary shells feel too strong. We’re looking into data to determine if a nerf is needed.
  • Improvements to Party UI / UX are underway. Implementation date is still TBD, but know that we are actively working on it.

In case you didn’t want to read all that, colorblind support has been confirmed to be in, as well as a “bumper jumper” controller configuration that allows players to jump using the L2 button on the DualShock 4 or left bumper on the Xbox One controller, which should help players jump while shooting without needing to take their fingers off either analog sticks.

For more COD WWII stuff, we posted the Paratroopers scorestreak which is the highest scrorestreak in the game right now. We also outlined what Division we think should be your starting one. Finally, the COD: WWII beta cap has been raised, and there are new weapons added too.

Check back tomorrow for more COD: WWII coverage from MP1st, as well as a look at our impressions of it so far.

New Dragon Ball FighterZ Gameplay Trailer Features SSGSS Goku and SSGSS Vegeta

Sometimes, just being Super Saiyan isn’t enough. It’s cool being powerful, but you could be ever stronger. Your golden locks could look better as neon blue, even! Introducing SSGSS Goku and SSGSS Vegeta who have both combined the power of Super Saiyan with Super Saiyan God! These two characters will be featured in the upcoming Dragon Ball FighterZ

You can watch them fight it out in the super smooth gameplay trailer below.

The catch with having super-cool Super Saiyan God Super Saiyans in this game, is that they’re being used as leverage to encourage pre-orders. Happily, it’s just an early unlock, rather than total exclusivity. Pre-ordering the game also nets you early access to the open beta, and two exclusive lobby avatars.

Dragon Ball FighterZ is set to be released in February 2018 on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Are you looking forward to going blue and angry on your enemies?

Destiny 2 Raid Name Revealed Through Trophies/Achievements List, Download Size for PS4 Confirmed

For those who want to “know thy enemy” before the game launches, the Destiny 2 trophy list has been revealed, and it gives a hint at what the first Raid will feature. The list doesn’t contain any hidden trophies, which is why it looks so short. However, I’ll still be issuing a spoiler warning as two of the trophies mention what the Raid is called.

Okay, final warning. Here’s the list:

Platinum

Traveler’s Chosen
-Obtain all trophies in Destiny 2.

Gold

Zavala’s Lieutenant
-Acquire each Titan subclass.

Cayde’s Pathfinder
-Acquire each Hunter subclass.

Ikora’s Protégé
-Acquire each Warlock subclass.

Show Me What You Got
-Complete Shaxx’s Call to Arms.

In A Flash
-Complete a Flashpoint.

Heart of Darkness
-Complete a Nightfall strike.

The Life Exotic
-Collect 15 exotic weapons or armor.

Challenge Accepted
-Complete 30 challenges.

Belly Of The Beast
-Complete the Leviathan raid.

The Prestige
-Complete the Leviathan raid or a Nightfall strike on Prestige difficulty.

Lest Ye Be Judged
-Encounter an Emissary from beyond.

Silver

The People’s Hero
-Complete a Heroic public event.

Long and Winding Road
-Reach level 20.

The folks over at PlayStation LifeStyle have done some digging into what the name of the Raid could mean, and have found this passage on Destinypedia:

“The Leviathan was a massive intelligent creature that resided deep within the ocean of the gas giant Fundament long ago. It was a disciple of the Traveler, and aided in imprisoning the five Worm Gods within the planet’s core. When the proto-Hive sisters Xi Ro, Sathona, and Aurash dove into Fundament’s depths in search of a secret that would prevent the Syzygy, an alignment of the gas giant’s fifty-two moons that would create a global tidal wave of catastrophic proportions, the Leviathan met them. Communicating with magnetic fields, it attempted to persuade them to return to the surface and follow the way of the Traveler and the Light, warning them against the seduction of the Deep, but the sisters rejected its pleas because it offered no way to end their species’ suffering and avert the Syzygy.

“Later, after the sisters had made a pact with the Worms, becoming the Hive and ravaging Fundament, the Leviathan tried to escape the planet’s surface and take shelter with the Ammonites of Fundament’s moons. The Ammonites sent their best forces to protect the Leviathan, whom they revered almost as much as the Traveler, but the Hive saw this as an opportunity. In one fell swoop, the Hive slew the Leviathan and destroyed the Ammonite civilization, forcing the Traveler to flee for its safety. The Leviathan’s corpse was fed to the Worm Gods Eir and Yul.”

According to the PlayStation Store’s product page, the Destiny 2 download size will be 30.87GB.

Doesn’t the Raid sound menacing! Are you looking forward to grouping up and tackling Destiny 2‘s first big challenge?

Destiny 2 launches on September 6 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The PC version will release on October 24.

Watch the video above for a quick look at the Call of Duty: WWII paratroopers scorestreak, the most powerful streak featured in the beta.

Star Wars Battlefront II Hero Vehicles Abilities Detailed

While EA and DICE popped the lid off of Star Wars Battlefront II’s highly anticipated space battles, there’s still a lot of question marks surrounding the game. One of these questions is how will the Hero vehicles be different from your standard TIE Fighter or X-Wing.

Well, now we have the answer to that. Spotted on the Star Wars Battlefront subreddit, a handy all-in-one image shows what each known Hero vehicle looks like and what it can do. I’ll list down a quick rundown for those who can’t load the image.

Darth Maul Scimitar

Vehicle abilities: Target Lock, Stealth Drive, Dual Proton Torpedoes

Boba Feet’s Slave I

Vehicle abilities: Ion Cannons, Seismic Charge, Concussion Missile

Poe Dameron’s Black One

Vehicle abilities: BB-8 Repair, Black Leader, Proton Torpedo

Han Solo’s Millenium Falcon

Vehicle abilities: Afterburner, Special Modifications, Concussion Missile.

Bear in mind, these aren’t all the Hero vehicles in the game. The trailer confirmed that Yoda, Darth Vader and even Kylo Ren will be participating in space battles in Battlefront II, and their vehicle abilities are a mystery for now.

Star Wars Battlefront II will be released this November 17 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. For all things Battlefront II, keep your crosshairs locked in to MP1st!

Rainbow Six Siege Free Weekend Coming up, Get Your Squad Together and Play!

Rainbow Six Siege will be getting a free weekend during August 24-27, across all platforms. This means that Xbox One, PS4, and PC gamers can try out the popular first-person shooter, with any progress made during the trial carrying over to the full release (should you be convinced to buy it!).

Ubisoft has released a trailer specifically for the event. Watch it below:

If you’ve somehow not yet managed to play Rainbow Six Siege, here’s a breakdown of what to expect:

THE SIEGE GAMEPLAY
For the first time in Rainbow Six, players witl engage in sieges, a brand-new style of assault. Enemies now have the means to transform their environments into strongholds: they can trap, fortify, and create defensive systems to prevent breach by Rainbow teams.
To face this challenge, players have a level of freedom unrivaled by any previous Rainbow Six game. Combining tactical maps, observation drones, and a new rappel system, Rainbow teams have more options than ever before to plan, attacks, and diffuse these situations.

COUNTER TERRORIST UNITS
Counter terrorist operatives are trained to handle extreme situations, such as hostage rescue, with surgical precision. As “short range” specialists, their training is concentrated on indoor environments. Operating in tight formations, they are experts of close quarter combat, demolitions, and coordinated assaults. Rainbow Six Siege will include operators coming from five of the most worldwide renowned CTU: the British SAS, the American SWAT, the French GIGN, the German GSG9 and Russian SPETSNAZ.
These Operators are specialists with their own expertise within Siege operations. Each has their own unique personality & specialty. Some are focused on assault whereas others are defense-oriented. They can be combined within the same team to create new team strategies.

PROCEDURAL DESTRUCTION
Destruction is at the heart of the siege gameplay. Players now have the unprecedented ability to destroy environments. Walls can be shattered, opening new lines of fire, and ceiling and floors can be breached, creating new access points. Everything in the environment reacts realistically, dynamically, and uniquely based on the size and caliber of bullets you are using or the amount of explosives you have set. In Rainbow Six Siege, destruction is meaningful and mastering it is often the key to victory.

Will you be playing this weekend?

Call of Duty: WWII Free Beta Access, Play Without A Code

Those of you sad that you can’t partake in the Call of Duty: WWII beta on PS4, since you don’t have a pre-order code, should turn that frown upside down! You can access the “private” beta without a code by following these instructions:

  • Sign up for a Hong Kong or Singapore PlayStation account (you don’t need PS+.)
  • If you use Gmail, simply add +[country] after your email, so for instance youremail+Singapore@gmail.com. That way all the email goes to the same account.
  • Download the beta.
  • Play and have fun.

This appears to work for a lot of “closed” testing builds, so keep an eye out for other games that try to get you to buy before you try!

So now everyone can enjoy the beta. Here’s a reminder of what the beta contains:

Beta participants will experience the all-new War Mode where players compete against each other in objective-based, team gameplay. The Private Beta will also enlist players in fast-paced, grounded Call of Duty action on maps set in World War II locations such as Pointe du Hoc and the Ardennes Forest.

Will you be giving the Call of Duty: WWII beta a go this weekend?

Thrustmaster T300 RS GT Edition Racing Wheel Review – Thrust and Go

Gran Turismo Sport is only a few months from release but a few of its licensed accessories are already out in the market including the Thrustmaster T300 RS GT Edition, an updated and Gran Turismo-licensed version of the T300 RS that was originally released two years ago. Aside from the addition of Gran Turismo branding, the only major difference the GT Edition has from the old T300 RS is the two-pedal set of the original being replaced with the three-pedal T3PA set which also features a new set of pedal faces.

Settings up the GT Edition was pretty easy and straightforward. The base can be secured to a table or desktop using the included clamp while the wheel can be easily attached to the base by slotting it in and then turning a cylinder as well as a small screw, which requires a separate Philips screwdriver, to finally lock it in place. The pedal set can then be linked to the rest of the system via a cable that attaches to the rear of the base. The base itself is then plugged into a power outlet as well as the PS4.

The T3PA pedal set that comes with the GT Edition features new pedal faces that come in a brushed aluminum instead of the shiny chrome of the original. The pedal faces are also larger in width, height, and thickness, making easier to press, regardless of their position, and feel heftier. While the clutch and gas pedals still have their additional mounting holes to change their position, the mounting holes on the brake pedal have been removed, although the larger pedal slightly makes up for it.

Performance-wise, there really isn’t anything different with the R300 RS GT Edition from the original. The smoothness, resistance, and force feedback on the wheel is great due to dual belt drive, which is also impressively quiet. The rubber grip on the wheel is also comfortable and provides decent grip. As for the pedals, the gas pedal has pretty good snap back while the resistance on the brake pedal, especially when the conical mode is attached, feels great as well.

Other than the wheel and shift pedals, the buttons and shift paddles on the wheel all feel great and responsive. Sadly, as the T300 RS GT Edition doesn’t come with a shifter, the clutch pedal is practically useless unless something like Thrustmaster TH8A Add-On Shifter is purchased with it or afterwards. Additionally, the base

In spite of not introducing anything significantly new or game-changing into the market, the Thrustmater T300 RS GT Edition is a great racing wheel and pedal set. It’s easy to set up, looks and feels great, and is easily upgradable with several options for add-ons (such as a shifter) and rims (such as a Ferrari F1 rim). Those looking to purchase a decently-priced, upper mid-tier racing wheel and pedal set definitely can’t go wrong with the T300 RS GT Edition

Pros:

  • Easy to set up
  • Sturdy contruction
  • Great design and performance
  • Upgradable

Cons

  • Doesn’t come with a shifter
  • Might be too expensive for some.
