Warhammer: Vermintide 2 Trailer Announces Game, Full Reveal Coming October 17

A reveal trailer for Warhammer: Vermintide 2 has just gone live, giving us a tease at the new game.

It doesn’t show much, only a few logos. Check it out here:

Warhammer: Vermintide 2 is the sequel to the critically acclaimed Vermintide. It’s time for players to return to the memorable first-person co-op experience with intense world class melee action.

Set in the dark and grim Warhammer Fantasy world, you must join forces with up to three other players to tackle the endless hordes of enemies. Equipped with a variety of melee and ranged weapons, you and your team are all that stands between utter defeat and victory – and if you fall so will the Empire.

Those are all of the details we have so far. However, an update on the game’s Steam page has stated: “More info on October 17th!” Not too long of a wait, I guess!

Happy to hear that Vermintide is getting a sequel?

Sea of Thieves Will Have Optional 540p and 15fps Modes at Launch

It was recently announced that Sea of Thieves will fully support cross-play between PC and Xbox players. The game’s developers are also applying this approach of “the more gamers playing with one another, the better” to those with less powerful PC rigs, with both 540p resolution and 15fps lock available in the game’s graphics options.

While it’s important to note that Sea of Thieves will boast high FOV settings, as well as 4K and 60fps for more capable systems, it’s also good to hear that the game will cater to those with older or cheaper hardware.

Speaking with PC Gamer, executive producer Joe Neat explained that some gamers are happy playing games at lower resolutions and/or lower frame-rates.

“We’ve actually added a 540p mode, so you can go below HD. We’ve also added a 15 fps framerate lock because when we were talking to the community some people were like: I’m actually happy playing 15 frames per second. We were like: that’s actually really cool, we should support that. And to go to them and say, oh, we’ve added that mode for you—it’s below our Rare certified min spec, but if you’re enjoying the game, why should we as developers knock you for that?”

As for how this affects image quality, Neat claims that Sea of Thieves “looks great at minimum spec because the art style is purposefully timeless.”

The more the merrier, I guess!

There’s still no confirmed release date for Sea of Thieves, but it’s expected to launch in 2018.

LawBreakers Player Count Drops Below 500 on PC Less Than a Month After Launch

We’ve already documented how Boss Key’s debut game, LawBreakers, has had a tough time in roping players in post-launch. We even made a video feature about it, and even reported what Cliff Bleszinksi thinks about all of this as well.

Well, sad to say, things doesn’t seem to be looking better. Over on Steam, LawBreakers has seen its 24-hour peak dip below 500. At the time of this writing, there was 293 players online 20 minutes ago, which, while not dead, also doesn’t bode well for a shooter not even a month out at retail.

Will things improve for the shooter? Let’s hope it does. It’s never fun when a game fails, and given how LawBreakers seems to be an actual good game, well, we certainly don’t want that happening.

Are you still playing LawBreakers? What can the studio do to rope in players?

Friday the 13th: The Game Update Prevents Team-Killing, Reduces Map Size & More

With the “rampant team-killing” causing big problems in Friday the 13th: The Game, the developer has now issued a patch that prevents players from betraying and murdering their teammates.

Not only does the patch mean that “Team Killing no longer possible in Public Matches,” it also brings some other big changes to the game. This includes some “added Small Maps for the existing maps,” which should help quicken the pace of games.

Here’s everything that’s included in this latest patch:

Parties/Invites/Matchmaking

  • Disallowing party leaders to join game session invites to sessions that do not advertise (private matches). This is due to not being able to search for sessions that do not advertise, which prevents party members from following their leader into them.
  • Party leaders can now follow public game invites, bringing members with them.
  • Steam Matchmaking tries harder to find lower-pinging matches. PS4 matchmaking up to 6x more efficient with tighter ping requirements.
  • Fixed XB1 matchmaking bugs.
  • Fixed a number of issues with how the game handles Party Invites and Matchmaking; there are still a few issues out there that are rare but it is much improved.
  • Fixed a number of issues on how canceling matchmaking was handled that could leave players in a state they could no longer matchmake.
  • Party members now see their party leader’s matchmaking status and time.
  • Various improvements to error messaging.

Maps

  • Added Small Maps for the existing maps; Packanack Small, Higgins Haven Small, and Camp Crystal Lake Small.
  • Increased the density of Kill locations on all maps.
  • Adjusted collision on Maps to prevent people from standing on water.
  • Adjusted collision on piers to prevent cars from driving on them .
  • Added a Map Icon to Campfire Kills.
  • Fixed a number of kill spots that were not functioning.
  • Fixed an issue with not being able to fix boat propellers based on boat positioning on the dock.
  • Placed collision under piers to prevent people from swimming under them.
  • Fixed a number of areas that the player could get out of the map.
  • Fixed a number of areas that Counselors could get to that Jason could not.
  • Added better collision around Boat Exits to prevent Jason from getting to areas he shouldn’t be in.

Gameplay

  • Team Killing changes.
  • Team Killing is no longer possible in Public Matches.
  • Cars can still cause damage to the players if they are hit.
  • Traps can still hurt and/or kill the player but there is no longer an XP penalty for the person that placed the trap in Public Matches.
  • Private Matches have not changed.
  • Fixed an issue where the Counselors breath wouldn’t start to recharge if the user continued to hold the button after breath was depleted.
  • Fixed an issue with Fear being canceled if pulled out of a car.
  • Fixed an issue with the Police Objective happening when it shouldn’t be.
  • Fixed a number of issues regarding objects falling through the ground.
  • Fixed an issue where Damage and Stun chance were only being calculated on the first attack.
  • Jason can no longer block through traps, firecrackers, flare guns, shotguns, and the Police.
  • Fixed reliability of perks that spawn items at the start of the match.

Misc. Fixes

  • Increased texture resolution on XB1.
  • Fixed the PhD for Murder Achievement/Trophy.
  • Improved intro and outro cinematics.
  • Fixed player muted states sometimes getting “lost” after level change.
  • Can now unready in Private Match even when the countdown is low.
  • Fixed a hitch caused by the video settings savegame after signing in or changing those settings.
  • Localization added; EFIGS+J+P+R

Some big changes have been made, and a lot of trolls are gonna be sad that they can no longer kill friendlies.

Happy to see this kind of support? Let us know if you’re still an avid Friday the 13th: The Game player!

The Elder Scrolls Online Patch 1.27 Is Now Live, Horns of the Reach Content & Game Changes Detailed

The Elder Scrolls Online update 1.27 is now live across all systems. It implements the Horns of the Reach content, as well as a plethora of tweaks and improvements to the game.

If you’re unaware of what the Horns of the Reach update contains, here’s a brief overview:

In this update, you’ll be able to explore and conquer two all-new 4 player dungeons – Bloodroot Forge and Falkreath Hold. These dungeons offer new item sets, Monster Masks, achievements and unique rewards!

We’ve also added a new Battlegrounds map – Arcane University – and a new game mode for Battlegrounds: Chaosball. Both of these are available to anyone who owns The Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind. You’ll also find that we’ve added several new Medals to support Chaosball.

The base game patch features a number of new features including updates to the Master Writ Merchant, new housing furnishings, and numerous quality of life improvements. These include customizable combat cues, new guild features, research cancelling, bankable Writ Vouchers and Alliance Points, and more. And as always, we’ve made several fixes and improvements to existing content as well.

Some of the key changes included in the 1.27 update are as follows:

New Dungeons

Bloodroot Forge

  • The Bloodroot Forge had been buried and hidden away for longer than any could remember, until the unification of Reachmen and Minotaur facilitated its rediscovery. Now, the fires of the ancient forge burn anew and the power emanating from it is palpable. Only blood and sacrifice to untamed nature can unlock its true potential and the Reachmen are generous in their offerings.
  • You can find the entrance to Bloodroot Forge in southern Craglorn, west of Elinhir.

Falkreath Hold

  • Falkreath is under attack by the combined forces of the fearsome Minotaur Domihaus the Bloody Horned and his Reachman marauder allies. This army of “beastmen” have adopted his visage when launching their attacks to inspire fear and terror, with much success. You must enter Falkreath and defend the hold as enemies pour through its broken walls set on its destruction.
  • Falkreath Hold can be reached by taking the cart in front of the Easter Gate north-east of Elinhir.

General

  • Both Dungeons include a Normal version in addition to a challenging Veteran version.
  • You can acquire unique item sets, including two new Undaunted Monster Mask sets, only available within these dungeons.
  • Unique Achievement awards are available for completing these new dungeons, including: A new, unique skin, A unique hat, Several titles, Unique housing items

New Collectibles

  • Bull Horns Emote: A new collectible emote obtained by entering either dungeon in Horns of the Reach.
  • Collectible Furnishings: A new displayable trophy and bust from each dungeon, obtained by defeating Domihaus the Bloody Horned in Falkreath Hold and the Earthgore Amalgam in Bloodroot Forge in Normal and Veteran modes.
  • Dreadhorn Shaman Skin: Obtained by completing the Falkreath Hold Challenger achievement.
  • Keptu-Horn Skull Sallet: Obtained by completing the Bloodroot Forge Challenger achievement.

The full list of patch notes, which cover every single tweak to the game, can be found here. (Prepare for a long read!)

New Overwatch Patch Is Live, Makes Improvements & Adds New Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch Modes

Feast your eyes on the latest Overwatch patch notes which detail a big update to the game. Fans of classic shooter genre game types will feel right at home in the Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch modes.

Here are the highlights of the patch:

New Game Modes: Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch

Two new game modes have been added to the Arcade: Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch!

In Deathmatch, eight players go head-to-head until one player scores 20 points. Players will earn 1 point whenever they land the final blow on an opponent and will lose 1 point whenever they die to environmental damage (ex: falling off a cliff) or self-inflicted damage. This scoring will be tracked in a brand-new scoreboard. The first player to 20 points wins!

In Team Deathmatch, two teams of four players face off until one team scores 30 points. Players will earn 1 point for their team whenever they land the final blow on an opponent and will lose 1 point for their team whenever they die to environmental damage (ex: falling off a cliff) or self-inflicted damage. If players are resurrected before they respawn, the corresponding point for their death will be deducted from the enemy team’s score. This scoring will be tracked in our default scoreboard. The first team to 30 points wins!

Both modes will play out on a selection of maps from our existing pool:

  • Hanamura
  • Horizon Lunar Colony
  • Temple of Anubis
  • Volskaya Industries
  • Dorado
  • Eichenwalde
  • Hollywood
  • King’s Row
  • (TDM only) Black Forest
  • (TDM only) Castillo
  • (TDM only) Ecopoint: Antarctica
  • (TDM only) Necropolis

We’ve made several modifications to many of these maps (including restricting play to a specific area and developing a special respawn system). We’re also introducing a brand new map specifically for Deathmatch: Château Guillard! Learn more about this map below.

Both modes will be available for play in Custom Games. Watch our developer update for additional insight.

New Deathmatch Map: Château Guillard

Château Guillard is located near Annecy in southeastern France. For hundreds of years, it was the estate of the influential Guillard family, until it gradually fell into disrepair after the family’s power waned in the decades after the Revolution. Recently, the château has found a new owner: the Talon agent Widowmaker, who has returned to her family’s ancestral home.

A list of the other changes made to the game can be found here.

Will you be playing some good ol’ TDM?

Rocket League Wasteland and Starbase Maps Being Reworked Significantly

Over on the official Rocket League site, Psyonix has announced a pretty big change to two Rocket League maps that will affect how matches played on it will fare out. In case the title wasn’t a dead giveaway, these maps will be Wasteland and Starbase Arc.

According to the studio, the Autumn update, which will include Competitive Season 6, will bring a change in that only “Standard Arenas” will be playable in online matches for both Competitive and Casual games.

Standard versions of both Wasteland and Starbase ARC will roll out with this change, while the classic, non-standard versions of these maps (now called ‘Badlands’ and ‘ARCtagon,’ respectively), will remain available for Private Matches and offline matches only. The Octagon and Underpass Lab Arenas will return to the Rocket Labs playlist as well.

Why the sudden change? Psyonix states that since late 2015, non-standard map layouts have been a hot topic of debate within the game’s community. After listening to feedback, they believe this is the right decision to make in terms of the changes. Check out a few more bits and pieces from the developer in the bullet-point list below.

  • We see Rocket League as a digital sport. As such, we think standardization is important and necessary to provide a level playing field and foster consistent competition across all skill levels and events.

  • We introduced non-standard arenas partly to provide variety for pro play, but they have not been embraced. Given the success of RLCS and Rocket League Esports in general, we no longer feel that map variety is needed or appropriate for the competitive scene.

  • Rocket Labs showed us that only a narrow set of arena designs would be well-received by the Rocket Leaguecommunity. Even the designs that more closely resembled conventional Arenas (like Octagon and Starbase) have been extremely divisive. Ultimately, the alternate layouts we devised simply didn’t add enough strategically to offset the corresponding loss in predictability and muscle memory.

Psyonix adds that it wants a “consistent set of rules and interactions” for the entire community — from noobs to pros competing in professional matches alike.

Are you digging this change? Should they have kept in to make matches more chaotic? Let us know what you think.

Call of Duty: WWII “Hit Feedback” to Be Improved From Beta, Scoring to Be Changed & More

The first week of the Call of Duty: WWII private beta has come to a close! While Sledgehammer did increase the level cap and added new items during the beta duration, there are quite a few things that still need to be addressed by the studio before launch in November.

Fortunately, what we played was indeed a beta, and as such, changes, tweaks, additions and more will make its way at launch. Over on Reddit, Sledgehammer Games boss Michael Condrey posted a note thanking those who played and offered feedback for the first week of the  COD: WWII beta. In addition to thanking the fans, Condrey also listed a few things that need to be fixed which includes hit feedback, scoring for domination and TDM, and more.

• It has come to our attention that some users are seeing an incorrect error message saying servers are down when they are not.

• We have identified a rare bug where users are seeing a false message about players being kicked from their parties. We have identified and fixed the issue.

• We are aware of a bug that prompts you to “Unlock and Equip” an item, but it only unlocks the item and does not equip. We are working on fixing this. (It’s annoying to us too)

• Some of the battle chatter and hit marker audio still requires some fine tuning. Specifically, the NPC call outs of enemy positions need some addressing.

• There is a bug that is causing some party members to lose connection with the lobby host.

Also, there are a number of features and adjustments that we are still working to optimize for launch, as well as some things we want to test further based on your feedback. These include:

• Adjusting Dom kills to 100pts, from 50.

• Increasing TDM end match score to 100.

• Hit feedback improvements, including better audio and more obvious headshot indicator

• Reducing Molotov to x1 per Scorestreak.

• Sprint out to ADS time refinement.

• Incendiary Shells as default off, and perhaps need to be nerfed.

• Paratrooper strength / cost balancing.

• Recon Aircraft too vulnerable to rifle damage.

• Color Blind support option.

• Bumper Jumper and other key controller configs.

Condrey notes that these items aren’t “final,” nor are they the only ones getting fixed. He also lets on that there are “surprises” in store as well, which might coincide with the second week of the beta getting a level cap boost and some more items added.

The second week of the COD: WWII beta starts this coming weekend, September 1 (1o a,m. PT/1 p.m. ET) and on the same time on September 4. In the meantime, go check out our Call of Duty: WWII video features blowout, and stay tuned for our impressions on the beta’s first week tomorrow.

Playing PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds With an Xbox Controller Is as Nightmarish as It Sounds

Bringing a controller to a keyboard and mouse fight is never a good idea. This is especially true when the fight in question takes place within the PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds universe! As PUBG is one of the more hardcore PC games out there, arming yourself with an Xbox controller could be considered virtual suicide. However, I’m not one to back down from a challenge, and so I picked up my Xbox pad and attempted to get some kills.

My attempts lasted three rounds. By the end, I think I did pretty well, and challenge anyone who’s ready to try and do better! (Warning: Playing with an Xbox One pad is extremely frustrating!)

Check out the video above, and let me know your thoughts on how I performed.

For more video content, be sure to subscribe to the Pixel Enemy YouTube channel. And, of course, stay tuned to MP1st for all of your multiplayer gaming news, features, reviews, previews, and more!

Here’s hoping the PlayerUnknown’s BattlegroundXbox One version plays a little better!

Will you be taking the PUBG Xbox One challenge? Or do you want to leave your sanity intact?

Absolver Launch Trailer Features Intense Melee Combat Gameplay

Absolver is set to launch on August 29, bringing an intense “online melee action experience” to PS4 and PC. The developer behind the game, Sloclap, is a Parisian indie game studio comprised of former Ubisoft Paris (Tom Clancy’s Ghost ReconRaving Rabbids, Just Dance) employees.

The game features an interconnected world allowing players to roam freely about the map. Single-player, co-op, and competitive gameplay are all combined into the same campaign.

Check out the launch trailer below, which provides an excellent example of the gameplay you’ll be expected to master.

https://youtu.be/sRq5N5B6ipc

Absolver is an online melee action experience where players are placed behind the mask of a Prospect under control of the Guides, the new rulers of the fallen Adal Empire, who have placed you here to determine your worth in joining their elite corps of Absolvers.

What do you make of the Absolver launch trailer? Let us know in the comments.

Player Freedom vs. Linear Gameplay – Major’s Take

Continuing our support of the Pixel Enemy community and bringing the very best submissions to you here on MP1st, we’d like to draw attention to this video by Major.

As games have evolved, we’ve seen many titles embrace the open world, giving players more space to explore. However, some games still like to keep gamers on a tight leash, directing them towards objectives, and punishing them for going against the developers intentions. Other games, on the other hand, give players the freedom to do as they wish, with little instruction.

While Major focuses more on single-player experiences, what he’s got to say also applies to multiplayer games. We’re seeing PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds blowing up right now, with millions loving it. That game does little to teach players the ropes, slapping them on an island, with only one instruction: stay within the white circle.

If you like Major, get subscribed to his YouTube channel! And be sure to let us know your thoughts about player freedom versus more linear gameplay in the comments below.

Be sure to subscribe to Pixel Enemy and give the video a “like” for more original video content!

Call of Duty: WWII Beta Level Cap Will Rise to 40, New Content to Be Added in Beta’s Second Phase

Those looking to hit the maximum Call of Duty: WWII beta level cap will have quite the challenge ahead of them. This is especially true if you’re on Xbox One or PC, as those platforms will likely only get one beta weekend.

When the beta opened up to PS4 players, the maximum available player rank was 20. It has since expanded to level 25. By the end of the second beta weekend, the rank will have peaked at 40.

This was confirmed by an ATVI Assist article, which has now been taken down. Luckily, CharlieINTEL managed to get a screenshot of it:

“Players will have limited level progression during the Private Beta. A level cap will gradually increase to a final cap at Level 40, meaning there is no Prestige in the Private Beta.”

Prior to the second beta weekend, there will be a preview livestream hosted on Twitch, YouTube, and Facebook. It will take place on Wednesday at 10 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. ET. “New content and other updates” are going to be discussed and showcased.

Sledgehammer Games has already learned a lot from the initial beta phase, and have listed some upcoming balance tweaks.

We went a bit crazy with beta coverage, creating five videos:

Did you get a chance to play the Call of Duty: WWII beta? If so, what rank did you manage to hit?

This Destiny 2 Quality of Life Improvement Will Make Decrypting Engrams Easier

With the September 6 console launch date fast approaching, there’s a lot of hype surrounding Destiny 2 and how it will build on the previous game’s success. While there’s plenty of big changes for players to look forward to, there are also some smaller tweaks which will aid enjoyment.

One such tweak is that you’ll no longer need to equip your most powerful gear to optimize rewards when decrypting Engrams. Destiny 2‘s project lead Mark Noseworthy confirmed the change on Twitter:

In the original game, players would have to switch gear to achieve the highest Light level and gain the greatest rewards. After they had finished decrypting, they’d have to change back again. A small inconvenience, sure, but the wasted time quickly added up.

I’m looking forward to seeing what other quality of life improvements have been made at launch!
