Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Multiplayer Beta Get 5-Day Exclusivity On PlayStation 4

Just last week, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 developer Treyarch announced that the game’s PlayStation 4 multiplayer beta would begin on August 19, leaving out details on the duration of both the beta and its exclusivity on Sony’s console.

As pointed out by Call of Duty fans attending this year’s Comic-Con, that info appears to have been made apparent by a batch of 30-day PlayStation Plus trial cards that were handed out to all attendees of the Black Ops 3 Zombies Escape Room Challenge.

According to details found on the card, the game’s PlayStation 4 beta will last for five days, beginning on August 19 and ending on August 23. It has yet to be confirmed if the beta will then continue past that date as a multi-platform beta, providing access to Xbox One and PC users in addition, or if it will re-launch at a later date as a multi-platform beta.

If it plays out anything like the beta for Destiny — also an Activision game — did last year, it will likely run for five days exclusively on the PlayStation 4, enter a period of maintenance for two to three days, and then return as a multi-platform beta on all three platforms for another five days. That’s just our guess, though. Expect more official details soon.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 launches on all platforms November 6.

Watch The First Trailer For Call of Duty: Black Ops 3’s Throwback Zombies Map, “The Giant”

Along with yesterday’s announcement of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3’s all-new Zombies mode, titled “Shadows of Evil,” Treyarch developers also teased the return of fan-favorite characters, Dempsey, Nikolai, Richtofen, and Takeo, in a throwback Zombies map the studio is calling “The Giant.”

Buyers of any of the three Collector’s Editions of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, which were also revealed yesterday, will get it on day one, and, so far, that appears to be the only way get access. It features returning cast members from the original World at War Zombies mode, including actors Steven Blum, Tom Kane, Nolan North, and Fred Tatascoiore, and will continue the story from where Call of Duty: Black Ops 2’s Origins left off. As a re-imagining of the original “Der Riese” from Call of Duty: World at War, old-school Zombies fans should feel right at home with “The Giant.”

The first trailer, which appears to be an intro cinematic for “The Giant,” was just released, so have a look at it above.

As of this writing, Black Ops 3’s Juggernog Edition and Hardened Edition are only available to pre-order on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One while the Digital Deluxe Edition is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

Keep your sights on MP1st for more on Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, launching November 6 for all platforms.

Data-Mining Leaks Upcoming Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare DLC Details Early

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare fans with a eye for things that developer Sledgehammer Games probably want to keep secret are taking an early peek at some of the game’s upcoming downloadable content.

After some digging through Advanced Warfare’s PC files following the game’s latest title update, Reddit user “convery” has discovered a handful of new weapons and maps that are presumably arriving in Advanced Warfare’s fourth and final DLC, Reckoning, in the coming weeks or months.

Their names appear to only exist in the PC files, but convery was also able to load some of them in-game, including three new weapons, the STG44 Assault Rifle, SVO Sniper Rifle, and Blunderbuss Shotgun, along with their variants:

DLC4 weapons

There’s also a dailymotion video of the new weapons being used in a multiplayer match which you can find here.

There doesn’t appear to be any images or videos of the new maps, but according to the files, their names are Fracture, Overload, Pandemic, and Swarm. The new Exo Zombies map is called Descent and allegedly takes place in “Atlas’s underwater city.”

Though it’s pretty standard for Call of Duty DLC to offer four new maps upon every release, how Sledgehammer Games chooses to deliver the new weapons is still up in the air. Previous Advanced Warfare DLC only offered one weapon per pack, while other DLC weapons have also been offered as a free download.

Regardless, don’t take any of this as an official announcement, but we’ll likely hear news soon.

Destiny Update 2.0 Will Put a New Spin on Questing in The Taken King

As Destiny‘s second year of content approaches, developer Bungie is aiming to improve on some of the game’s most basic elements in accordance with fan feedback.

With the launch of Destiny: The Taken King on September 15, Guardians can expect a new and improved ways to manage Quests and Bounties, as well as new adventures inspired by some of Destiny’s more well-liked missions, like the Thorn Bounty.

“The implementation of Quests and Bounties in Year One was a foundation, but it was clear to us and the community that it was an area for improvement, especially if we wanted to rely on questing even more in Year Two,” Creative Director Luke Smith wrote in Bungie’s latest Weekly Update.

“The Taken King was built with Quests in mind, but we didn’t want to ignore the Year One content in this global change. So as a part of this update, we’ve taken all Destiny content and – for lack of a better term – ‘questified’ it.”

He listed off some of the areas of improvements the team is currently focusing on.

  • “We’re increasing the number of Bounties players can carry”
  • “Both Quests and Bounty slots will be tracked in the HUD”
  • “Completed Bounties will be turned in from the Quests screen”
  • “Reputations will be moved from Inventory to the Quests page”

quest_hud_large quest_no_tooltip_large quest_details_largeMuch more is to come in the weeks leading up to The Taken King and Update 2.0’s launch, says Bungie, including more details on guns, balance, progression, destinations, and enemies.

343 Industries Reveals Halo 5: Guardian’s Biggest Warzone Map Yet, Inspired By Original Halo

Raid on Apex 7 is Halo 5: Guardians‘ latest Warzone multiplayer map that developer 343 Industries revealed earlier today at Comic-Con San Diego. It also happens to be the game’s biggest yet – already, Warzone maps are four times the size of an average Halo map.

According to the studio, the map is inspired by a campaign level originally from Halo: Combat Evolved called “The Silent Cartographer.”

“Clearing out the initial Covenant threats and controlling the Forerunner Spire in the center of the island is paramount to a team’s success and provides a central base of operations,” 343 explains. “If your team loses the Spire, don’t despair; players can use a system of caves or taketo the beach to flank the base. Beware of the Covenant though, for they will not let you take this islandso easily. They will counterattack and fight to retake their territory. Continue the push for control of the island and take out the opposition’s core… before you awaken something much worse.”

Rather than gameplay, 343 enlisted the help of Mega Bloks to reveal the map using a 6′ x 6′ model made up of 89,500 blocks in total, weighing in at half a ton. Have a look at the reveal video below and a few pieces of concept art while you’re at it.

Courtesy of Gamespot

Warzone was introduced at E3 2015 as Halo 5: Guardians’ ultimate sandbox multiplayer experience, including 24-player PvP and PvE battles. It will launch alongside Halo 5: Guardians’ Arena multiplayer modes on October 27 on Xbox One.

Bungie Day Celebrates Destiny Players With Year-One Recap Video & Developer Discussion

The 7th day of every 7th month marks a special occasion once a year that celebrates the players who play games made by renown developer Bungie. With festivities traditionally centered around the legendary Halo franchise, this July 7th in particular celebrates the budding community that has grown around the studio’s new IP, Destiny.

In a post on the recently updated Bungie.net, the veteran developer acknowledged the (almost one) year that old and new fans have had to build new memories around Bungie’s brave new world. This special year-one recap video, below, showcases a broad range of fan sentiment, be it video commentary, livestream highlights, musical covers, or cosplay projects compressed into 31 minutes of footage.

[youtube id=”8XLa2kEz2m4″]

Additionally, this just-released developer round-table interview, presented by PlayStation and hosted by Wil Wheaton, presents a conversation between Bungie Co-Founder Jason Jones, Design Director Luke Smith, Senior Environment Artist Jason Sussman, and Technical Art Director Ryan Elli about Destiny’s first foray into wild.

[youtube id=”G716Ag_VeHs”]

Lastly, the studio also revealed the requirements for the additional year-one reward that was briefly touched upon in Bungie’s last Weekly Update. Veteran players will need to complete the following by September 9 in order to earn a special “Laurea Prima” emblem that will commemorate your legendary status.

  • Apprentice of Light – Reach the maximum level (level 20) with a character
  • Light of the Garden – Defeat the dark heart of the Black Garden
  • Light in the Dark – Prevent the summoning of Crota’s Soul
  • Light of the Reef – Capture Skolas in the Vex Citadel
  • Bane of Atheon – Defeat Atheon on Hard Difficulty
  • Bane of Crota – Defeat Crota on Hard Difficulty
  • Bane of Skolas – Defeat Prison of Elders on Hard Difficulty
  • Public Servant – Complete 50 Public Events
  • Crucible Gladiator – Win 100 Crucible Matches
  • Chest Hunter – Find all Golden Chests

You can keep up with your progress under the new “Triumphs” tab in your Bungie.net profile and, if you’ve met the requirements, you’ll be able to pick up your emblem once Destiny: The Taken King launches on September 15.

Bungie closed their report with this note to their fans:

You are legendary. If you’ve created a Guardian in our world, you have made the game of Destiny better. It’s been an honor and a pleasure to play alongside you this year. You’re the reason why we do what we do.

Happy Bungie Day, Guardian. And Happy Bungie Day to every player who has ever lent a bit of themselves to something that we created.

We have more adventures in store for Destiny in the months and years to come. We hope you’ll be along for the ride. It just wouldn’t be the same without you.

See you Starside,

Love, Bungie.

In related news, Sony also celebrated the occasion with their own announcement of a limited edition Destiny: The Taken King-themed 500GB PlayStation 4 console. It sports a “map of the cosmos” design “in silver with the Guardian’s crest set in gold right in the center” and comes with the Destiny Legendary Edition, which includes Destiny, Expansion I, Expansion II, and The Taken King. It will be available on September 15.

You can find out more about the bundle here, though pricing has yet to be announced.

Happy Bungie Day!

One-Day Advanced Warfare “Elite Bonus” Playlist Lets You Earn More Elite Gear

A special one-day-only Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare playlist is now offering gamers an increased chance (double) to earn Elite items via Supply Drops.

According to Sledgehammer Games, the playlist is only active until tomorrow, July 8 at 9AM Pacific. That said, it looks like fans will have the chance to extend it to 48 hours by helping this tweet reach 10,000 retweets. The only map in rotation is Skyrise, a reimagining of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s Highrise, so the Supremacy DLC pack will be required to play.

Something else to look forward to later this week, July 9, is another Advanced Warfare game update that Studio Head Michael Condrey says will include tuning for the PDW, MP443 Grach, Atlas 45, MORS, and Crossbow. More details to come.
