Bungie Reveals More Rewards For Year-One Destiny Players, Will Talk Weapon Rebalancing & More In Future Updates

Notes from Bungie’s latest Weekly Update reveal more rewards for veteran Destiny players and describes what lies ahead between now and the launch of Destiny’s The Taken King DLC on September 15.

Last week, the studio revealed a set of rewards, including a shader, emblem, and Sparrow, that will be awarded to anyone who has achieved Light Level 30 or has already purchased Expansion I and II when The Taken King launches. This Bungie Day, which is July 7, the studio also says it will also “have some celebrations of the awesome stuff you’ve done this past year, along with some invitations for how you can express yourselves.” In addition, Veterans will learn how they can achieve “exclusive legendary status” with this new emblem:

TriumphEmblem

According to Bungie, it’s been something the studio has been working on for a while and “your own triumphs are the crucial ingredient.”

Looking forward, between now and September 15, the studio says it will begin offering updates on a number of elements that are important to the Destiny community, including weapon rebalancing, economy improvements, an overhauled quest experience, bounty enhancements, faction allegiances, end game content, and more.

As for September 14, Community Manager David “DeeJ” Dague clarified exactly what you’ll be getting with Destiny’s $40 expansion, The Taken King, calling it “more than DLC – it’s a game.” Have a look:

  • “New story missions and an array of sidequests that conspire to tell the story of our battle to defend our Solar System against Oryx and his Taken army”
  • “New narrative driven by cinematic cutscenes starring an engaging cast of characters”
  • “New Exotic Weapons, Exotic Armor, and Exotic Questlines”
  • “The Dreadnaught, a full new destination, with unique secrets, rituals, and treasures to uncover”
  • “A new breed of enemy combatants, The Taken, armed with new abilities and weapons”
  • “An increased Level Cap, and new ways for your Guardian to grow more powerful”
  • “The most substantial injection of new, unique, and redesigned weapons, armor, and talents to date”
  • “New subclasses with all new Supers and abilities”
  • “New cooperative Strikes with unique and dynamic new Boss battles”
  • “Redesigned and reimagined Strikes – Dust Palace, Undying Mind, and Cerberus Vae III – are now overrun by the Taken”
  • “New Crucible multiplayer maps with new Crucible modes, including the previously revealed Rift and Mayhem”
  • “And, of course, last but not least, our biggest six-player Raid yet”

You can learn more about The Taken King and see some of it in action in this Developer Diary from Bungie.

DICE LA Is Bringing Battlefield 4’s Community Test Environment To Xbox One Next Week

It feels like it’s been forever since Battlefield 4 developer DICE LA first stated their intention to bring the game’s Community Test Environment to consoles following signs of success with its launch on PC.

According to recent updates from the studio, developers aim to have it up and running on Xbox One by early next week, on July 6. A few requirements must be met in order to participate, however. As per the the CTE FAQ, owners of Battlefield 4 who are subscribed to the game’s Premium service and are also members of Xbox One Preview Program will be invited to download the CTE.

DICE LA says that updates on the Xbox One CTE will be less frequent than on PC, but participants will still get access to tests and prototypes, including Battlefield 4’s Community Map Project as well as three maps from the Night Operations Project. All feedback can be provided on the CTE Forums.

If you’re not selected right away, the studio says it will be increasing the participant limit as the program continues on.

Earlier last year, we caught up with DICE LA Producer David Sirland to chat about the success of Battlefield 4’s CTE initiative and how it’s continuing to shape the future of the series. You can read our talk here, if you missed it.

Mortal Kombat X – The Predator/Prey Pack Has Some Really Interesting Easter Eggs

Mortal Kombat X’s latest DLC character isn’t out for another week for Kombat Pack owners, but that hasn’t stopped the Mortal Kombat community from getting a really good glimpse of what the Predator will bring to the table next Tuesday.

With my time fighting against the iconic movie character or using the alternate skins that are associated with the Predator pack, I’ve noticed some very interesting easter eggs that the folks over at NetherRealm Studios have snuck into the game, which I think many of you will enjoy.

You might remember the infamous handshake scene between Carl “Dillon” Weathers and Arnold “Major Dutch” Schwarzenegger that took place during original Predator movie. Pretty much everyone on the internet has seen it by now.  When you select the “Carl Weathers” skin for Jax and the “Commando” skin for Johnny Cage, you’ll find this nod to the classic movie:

[youtube id=”iOmDSu9Tbz8″]

Original:

[youtube id=”GlkrErnguIE”]

Not only did Carl Weathers lend his likeness to the game, he also did some did some voice work for Jax, which only presents itself when playing as Jax wearing the Carl Weathers skin, similar to the Jon Stewart skin for Green Latern in Injustice: Gods Among Us.

Elsewhere, NetherRealm added a nice little touch to Erron Black’s X-Ray move where the name of his opponent is etched into a bullet travelling in slo-mo. The studio decided to take that level of detail a bit further and added this ‘ugly’ insult when the cowboy from Outworld faces off against the Predator:

uAcAUHB

Finally, no victory is complete for the Predator if he can’t take his opponent’s head as a prized possession and proudly display it in his trophy room. In the following gif, he places his newly obtained skull from Mileena next to his other prized trophies.

The Predator DLC and Prey costume pack will release for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on July 7th for Kombat Pack owners, according to the Xbox One marketplace.

Report – List Of Star Wars Battlefront Game Modes Includes “Heroes vs. Villains”

EA Star Wars’ Spanish Facebook page has reportedly outed a list of multiplayer game modes that will launch with DICE’s upcoming shooter, Star Wars Battlefront, which includes potential fan-favorites like Fighter Squadron and Heroes vs. Villains.

These screen grabs (via Reddit) were captured on EA Star Wars’ official Spanish site and Facebook page, allegedly announcing the following game modes as playable modes in Battlefront:

  • Walker Assault
  • Supremacy
  • Fighter Squadron
  • Blast
  • Drop Zone
  • Cargo
  • Heroes vs. Villains

By the sounds of it, Heroes vs. Villains wasn’t meant to be revealed until a later, unannounced date, but it’s one Star Wars Battlefront fans have been waiting for. Meanwhile, Fighter Squadron has the potential to fulfill the needs and wants of Battlefront II fans clamoring for proper space battles in DICE’s game. All that’s left now is to hang tight until we get a first glimpse of these game modes in action.

The big question: other than a small handful of confirmed characters, including Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, and Boba Fett, which Star Wars villains or heroes deserve a spot in this Battlefront game? Sound off in the comments!

Earlier this month, DICE and EA gave audiences a taste of two Battlefront game modes at E3 2015, Walker Assault and Co-Op Survival.

BattleBorn – Check Out The Skills & Abilities Of The 10 Heroes Revealed So Far

It’s been one year since Gearbox Software revealed their newest IP, Battleborn, an FPSMOBA that’s set to release on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One later this year.

Now, the development studio behind the critically acclaimed franchise, Borderlands, is finally much more open to talk about their upcoming project. Thus far, we’ve learned that Battleborn will feature three distinctive PvP modes and a co-op mode for those who rather sit back and relax with four other friends while tackling Battleborn’s story.

Probably the biggest piece of news that was recently revealed about the upcoming title, however, is that the game will ship with a very healthy amount of characters to choose from. 25, to be exact. To make it even better, especially for those of you who may have a limited time dedicated to gaming, all 25 characters will be unlocked from the start.

For those who haven’t been keeping tabs on the game since its reveal or are just curious as to what the revealed heroes are all about, Gearbox has recently updated the official Battleborn website to contain the skills and abilities for ten of the recently revealed characters. You can view them by clicking the links below:

Battleborn has yet to receive an exact release date, but it’s expected to release sometime this year and will be available for the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One platforms.

Bungie Revises Destiny: The Taken King CE-Exclusive Content, Reveals Rewards For Year-One Players

Last week, Bungie’s reveal of Destiny’s major Fall expansion, The Taken King, met audiences with mixed reactions. The content looked exciting, despite its high asking price of $40 USD, with a new destination to explore, new enemies to conquer, new gear to earn, new sub-classes to level-up, and more. But confusion arose after learning that Destiny: The Taken King Collector’s Edition would offer exclusive rewards to newcomers, leaving the game’s most dedicated fans out in the cold.

Destiny’s Creative Director, Luke Smith, turned confusion into anger after a few choice words in his interview with Eurogamer, coming across as if Bungie cares little for fans that have supported their new IP since day one.

After few days of silence, the studio is now offering an open apology alongside an explanation of how it plans to make things right. In an early Bungie Weekly Update, Community Manager David “DeeJ” Dague opened with this:

“In developing The Taken King, one of our goals has been to celebrate you and your triumphs. E3 was a place to reveal the new adventures we hope to send you on, but our conversations there didn’t do justice to our plans to honor your legacy.”

His words were followed by an official apology from Luke Smith himself, addressed to all fans of Destiny. Here it is in full:

I am Luke Smith, Creative Director on Destiny: The Taken King.

Many, many years ago, I wrote to you each week in this spot. We talked about Battle Rifles, we talked about stuff we weren’t going to talk about, and at some point I did a horrible hand-drawing of an upcoming map and teased you with it in the Weekly Update.

Anyone who knows me knows I can be sarcastic, anyone who remembers podcasts I’ve done knows that I can be pretty blunt, and anyone who’s watched me in a ViDoc knows I’m pretty unpolished.

However, most of you don’t know me.

Reading my interview with Eurogamer and imagining it came from some random developer of a game I love – that random developer looks like an Asshat.

But that Asshat was me – and those words rightfully anger you.

I’m sorry.

My words made it sound as if Bungie doesn’t care about their most loyal fans.

We do care. We are listening. And we will make it right.

For starters, Bungie is now offering the exclusive rewards from the new Collector’s Edition as a standalone purchase for $20 USD, giving those interested the option to snag the goods without having to re-purchase old content. The bundle includes three class-specific emotes, three armor shaders, and three Exotic class items with XP bonuses and will be available on September 15, the same day The Taken King launches. Owners of old content who already purchased the Collector’s Edition should stay tuned for additional information, according to DeeJ.

Digital_Items

As for the new class items being introduced in The Taken King, DeeJ says they will “provide players with another gear slot that can contribute to both your Guardian’s look and build preferences.”

“The Class Items included in the Collector’s Edition are a welcome addition for players looking to level up newborn Guardians or fresh subclasses, but they are not the only new Class Items available in Destiny: The Taken King,” he added. “This is part of our focus on making the game more rewarding and adding more variety options for players. The same goes for Emotes.”

Now, onto year-one players — those who’ve been around long enough to already have a Light Level 30 Guardian or who’ve already picked up Expansion I: The Dark Below and Expansion II: House Of Wolves.

VIP_Rewards

By the looks of the teaser image that Bungie provided (above), the bundle, which can be picked up in The Tower when The Taken King launches, will include new armor pieces, a new shader, a new emblem, and a new Sparrow. According to DeeJ, these items will remain exclusive to year-one Guardians forever. He also said that Bungie will “have more fun stuff for you to announce in the very short term future, just for you.”

With that, he concluded part one of this week’s much-needed update. Part two will arrive this Thursday, as per usual.

It has definitely been a hell-of-a-week for Bungie and fans of Destiny alike. What are your thoughts on the revised delivery plan of The Taken King and its new exclusive content? Is $20 fair for cosmetic items when, previously, the same bought you an entire Destiny expansion? Tell us in the comments.

New Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Zombies Teaser Hints At Comic-Con Reveal

According to hints left by Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 developer Treyarch, Call of Duty Zombies fans might get their first look at what Zombie-slaying goodness is in store for the studio’s next big shooter during this year’s Comic-Con in San Diego.

The company’s official Twitter account tweeted this image earlier today with the caption, “It’s time to start writing the next chapter…”

The date, July 9, which is a Thursday, marks the first day of San Diego Comic-Con 2015, so we suggest keeping a lookout for an official announcement of some sort of developer panel in the near future.

Black Ops 3’s Zombies mode was previously teased only briefly during the title’s reveal trailer, which you can watch right here. In interviews, studio head Mark Lamia promised fans the most ambitious Zombies experience yet, but was unable to get into specifics.

What’s your Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Zombies wish list?

New Halo 5: Guardians Weapon Skin Pre-Order Bonuses Guaranteed On Day One

By pre-ordering Halo 5: Guardians through your favorite video game retailer, you’ll now be able to guarantee day one access to one of the game’s many new weapons variations or weapons skins.

A number of them were revealed yesterday, suggesting that weapon customization might play a larger role in Halo 5: Guardians. For the first time, players might be able to swap weapon sights or barrel attachments, or they might simply be able to collect different weapon variations through REQ packs via the game’s new 24-player Warzone mode.

It should be noted that, according to studio head Josh Holmes, these weapon skins are not exclusive to pre-orders and can still be unlocked in-game through normal progression. Pre-ordering simply ensures you’ll have them on day one.

As 343 Industries’ most recent episodes of The Sprint revealed, some weapon variations in Halo 5: Guardians will be more rare than others. This will include weapon variations used by members of Blue Team or Fireteam Osiris.

Below a list of what weapons skins are exclusive to what retailers, minus the last one, a Battle Rifle, which is currently unknown.

Latest Mortal Kombat X Patch Reveals First Look At Predator, Prey Costumes, & Klassic Fatality Pack

Some good news if you felt things were getting a bit stale for NetherRealm Studios’ latest fighter, Mortal Kombat X.

As of today, MKX fans on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are getting a rather large compatibility patch for what most people would consider the most anticipated DLC guest character for the game, the Predator.

According to the compatibility patch, the Predator’s three variations will be the following:

  • Hish-Qu-Ten
  • Hunter
  • Warrior

In addition to giving us the first small details on the new character, the content of the Prey costume pack that’s set to be available alongside the Predator has also been revealed:

t3U69OP 3kVhoOT q6YBqsB pU8P2lN

It also reveals the Klassic Scorpion skin, that everyone will receive for free upon downloading the update.

XErKi13

Elsewhere, it looks like the previously reported Klassic Fatality pack is coming soon. Searching through the latest patch, it seems that it’ll contain new fatalities for the following characters:

  • Johnny Cage
  • Scorpion
  • Sonya Blade
  • Sub-Zero

No exact price has been listed the Klassic Fatality pack, nor has a release date at the time of this writing. If NetherRealm Studios’ history regarding content not included in the Kombat Pack is anything to go by, there’s a chance the Klassic Fatality pack will release two weeks after Predator is available to Kombat Pack owners. According to Amazon, Predator is set to release July 2 for Kombat Pack owners.

Finally, just like the previous two patches that included huge character changes, you can view the recent lengthy character balance notes right here, courtesy of WB Games.

Battlefield 2’s Dragon Valley Gets The Remake Treatment In Battlefield 4 CTE’s Classic Map Project

Battlefield 4‘s secretive Classic Map Project is finally stepping into the light and bringing its very first prototype to the Community Test Environment, taking old-school fans on a field trip back to Battlefield 2.

After careful consideration, developer DICE LA has landed on Dragon Valley, an original map from 2005’s Battlefield 2, as the first map prototype to be introduced into to the CTE via an update that hit PC earlier today. There it will remain for two weeks while the studio gathers feedback and makes tweaks accordingly before the CTE swaps back to the Community Map Project. There’s currently no ETA on when the classic map will launch into the retail version of Battlefield 4.

According to notes in the change log, the studio aimed for an older Battlefield map that had not been previously re-imagined, that was truly a classic map, that catered to large-scale vehicle warfare, and that the dev team felt would greatly benefit from significant gameplay and visual improvements. Aside from Strike at Karkand, Dragon Valley was also the most voted for map in DICE LA’s poll measuring the most popular Battlefield 2 maps.

The studio says that the new Dragon Valley has more foliage, a cloud layer, and taller, more fitting terrain, which helps mimic Battlefield 2 version’s poor draw distance. Like the original, bridges can also be destroyed and repaired in the new version.
