Spellbreak Update 1.09 October 22 Ushers in Prologue: The Gathering Storm

As previously announced, Proletariat has released the Spellbreak update 1.09 October 22 patch and it’s live now on all platforms! This is the Prologue: The Gathering Storm which includes new content, gameplay-related tweaks and more!

Spellbreak Update 1.09 October 22 Patch Notes:

Clash

  • Our first new game mode is here! Clash is a 9v9 team deathmatch mode where two teams race to exile enough of their opponents to reach a predetermined score. First one to make it, wins!
  • Clash is low on stress, but high on fun! It immediately thrusts people into combat and keeps them there for the duration. Great for learning new classes, blowing off steam, practicing, or just having good time!
  • Each side is made up of up to 3 squads of 3 players each.
  • Every time a player is exiled, the exiling team scores a point.
  • Players roam the map, gathering gear, and leveling their skills, just like in Battle Royale.
  • The circle will lead players to designer-placed areas that ensure good gameplay for both teams.
  • Upon being exiled, you keep all of your gear and levels but also drop a copy of your equipment that can be looted by other players.
  • After being exiled, you’ll respawn near your team, high above the battlefield, with full health, armor, and 2 armor shards.
  • Of noteSpellbreak’s game modes are not set in stone. We’ll be experimenting and rotating the available modes over time. We want Spellbreak to grow and change and not be the same thing forever.
  • Per the above, with the introduction of Clash, we’ll be disabling Duos.

Prologue Chapter

  • This release marks the introduction of the Chapter system in Spellbreak! This is the first take and we’re going to be listening to your feedback and evolving it further as we go forward.
  • Earn reputation by completing missions for Avira Emberdane and unlock 25 levels of rewards, including exclusive:
    • Outfits, including an Epic one!
    • Cloudbursts and Afterglows
    • Badges, Titles, and Cards
    • Gold!
  • Come back every week for new quests or level your reputation up by playing and earning XP as normal.
  • As a celebration of the Prologue, we’re making it FREE for everyone!
  • Check out your progress in the Quests and Chapters tabs and see the story as it evolves over time.

For more about the Chapter system, take a look at this post.

Hollowed Eve

  • It’s time to get spooky with a bunch of new cosmetics arriving in the shop!
  • We’ve also added bundles so you can buy a set of items at the same time for a discounted price.

Matchmaking

  • We’ve made a change to how lobbies are filled to allow them to better populate with players.
  • Now, as more players join, the match countdown timer increases up to a certain point (though it’s still capped at a few minutes) so that as long as new players are coming in, they’ll be placed in an existing lobby instead of closing down the lobby and spawning a second one. Basically, we’re trying to fill one game completely instead of making two half full games.

Gameplay

Bug fixes that deserve a callout

  • Fixed an issue with the Lighting Strikes sorcery not striking players in the outside edge of the sorcery.
  • Immediately jumping upon stepping in a puddle no longer prevents damage from correctly being applied.
  • Fixed a bug where shadow-stepping into a Toxic Cloud caused the dash component of Vanishing Mists to not trigger.

Talents

New Talents

In this release, we’re adding three brand new talents. They’re unlocked from day 1 for all players, so get in there and try them out, make new builds, and let us know what you think!

Vigor

  • Mind
  • Cost: 3
  • Description:
    • Max Health: +25/30/35/50

Foresight

  • Body
  • Cost: 3
  • Description:
    • See Future Storms and Mana Vaults
    • See Enemies on the Minimap every 10/9/8/5s

Ambidextrous

  • Spirit
  • Cost: 3
  • Description:
    • Gain Level 1 Skill of Offhand Gauntlet’s Class
    • Offhand Spell Mana Cost: -5/10/15/25%

For more about talents, please see here.

Talent Changes

  • Vital stone’s immune effect now correctly protects against being pulled by a tornado.
  • Finders Keepers
    • Cost is now 1 (down from 2).
    • Its description now reads: “Chance to find Potions from Chests: +25% / Chance to find Scrolls from Chests: +50/75/100/150%”
    • NoteThis description is slightly inaccurate. It increases the chance to find potions AND shards.
    • Finders Keepers\ has struggled to find a place outside of very specific cases and we’ve wanted to buff it for a while now. With the changes to consumables, it seemed like a good time to expand its scope!*
  • Fortitude
    • Cost is now 2 (down from 3).
    • Fortitude’s been overshadowed by other Body talents and we want to make it more appealing by lowering its cost.
  • Scavenging
    • Cost is now 2 (up from 1).
    • Scav was always a great deal… Too great of a deal in fact, especially with the introduction of some of the new talents.
  • Fervor
    • Cost is now 3 (up from 2).
    • Long the most dominant pick of any talent category, Fervor was too often a no-brainer for what it gave. This also indirectly lowers the power of some classes/skills as well.
  • Escapist
    • Now reads: “Run Speed +3 / On Damage Taken: Run Speed +1/2/3/5 (5s)”
    • We’ve added a hefty chunk of base movement speed to Escapist and it’s always on. Escapist is now for escaping, engaging, and just running around!
  • Thirsty
    • Now reads: “Consume speed 35/50/65/90% faster / Consumables replenish nearby teammates health and armor for 50% efficacy”
    • With the changes to consumables and more plans on the way, we needed to slow Thirsty down a bit as well as make it explicit that it only affects healing and armor. If we wanted to commit to it sharing ALL consumable effects at 50%, we’d likely have to rework it fairly significantly in the process.

Consumables

  • After using a consumable, the player’s vitals bar shows how much they will heal over the duration of the consumable.
    • An oft requested feature. You’ll now be able to see just how much you’ll be healed as it’s happening!

New Small Health Potions and Small Armor Shards.

  • “After drinking for 2 seconds, heals you for 15 health over 5 seconds.” / “After consuming for 2 seconds, gives you 15 armor over 5 seconds.”
  • These are Common rarity.
  • They stack up to 6 in a hot bar slot.
  • They drop in stacks of 2.
  • These are for quick top ups in combat and since they stack to 6, you can carry around a bunch of them. Since they’re common and come in pairs, you’ll also find lots of them.
  • These can be used very effectively in combat to give a quick jolt to your vitals.

The current “small” versions that you’re used to have been renamed, given a new rarity, and had their values tweaked up a smidge for better rounding, but are otherwise unchanged.

Health Potions and Armor Shards

  • “After drinking for 3 seconds, heals you for 25 health over 10 seconds.” / “After consuming for 3 seconds, gives you 25 armor over 10 seconds.”
  • These are now Uncommon rarity.
  • They still stack up to 2.

We’re adding a new potion type called “Safeguard” that refills both health AND armor. These are primarily for out of combat regeneration but if you can find a longer window mid-fight, it’ll help you recover in a big way.

Safeguard Potion

  • “After drinking for 5 seconds, gives you 25 health and armor over 10 seconds.”
  • These are Epic rarity.
  • They take up a hot bar slot but cannot be stacked.

Large Safeguard Potion

  • “After drinking for 8 seconds, gives you 50 health and armor over 10 seconds.”
  • These are Legendary rarity.
  • They take up a hot bar slot but cannot be stacked.

Knowledge Potion

  • “After drinking for 1 second, gives you 2 bonus charges to your Rune and your Sorceries.”
  • These are Epic rarity.
  • They take up a hot bar slot but cannot be stacked.

For more about the new Consumables, check out this post.

Miscellaneous

  • When you upgrade a gauntlet or rune, your cooldown no longer resets. Huzzah!
  • Similarly, reading a scroll to upgrade Runic Fluency will not cause it to reset.
  • The main menu bar has been slightly re-ordered.
  • All players now start with the title “Breaker” by default.
  • Emotes now loop in the store and collections menus.
  • Artifacts now freeze if the player is frozen.
  • Frozen boulder has improved vfx and material.
  • New sounds added for when players use consumables.

Windows fixes

  • Spellbreak ID should now always be visible in the “Account Management” or “Add a friend” screens

Switch

  • Switch now supports gyro controls.
  • Hopefully fixed the black screen issue for real this time.
    • We’re really sorry about this taking so long to fix!
  • Players with their system date set to before August 18 are now able to log in.
    • Just in case you need to be a time traveling island-hopper for some reason…

Playstation 4

  • Fixed a bug causing the flash freeze sorcery target indicator to display an incorrect smaller radius until the player moves the camera.
  • Fixed an infinite loading screen caused by signing out of PSN while on a loading screen.

Xbox One

  • Fixed a crash caused by losing internet connection during screen transitions.
  • Resolved an issue causing framerate hitching when picking up items.
  • Fixed an assortment of Xbox crashes.
  • Fixed a bug causing the flash freeze sorcery target indicator to display an incorrect smaller radius until the player moves the camera.

All Platforms

  • When servers are down for maintenance, the client now properly reports that instead of giving an authentication error.
  • When a player is exiled from a game and in a party with players still in the game, they are no longer incorrectly labeled as “in match” when they return to the lobby.
  • Fixed a bug causing the shop tab’s UI to become corrupted after idling on it for a long time.
  • If a player fails to enter correct account information, they’ll now be taken back to the login screen.
  • The “Bored” emote now has the correct icon.
  • Parties will no longer be broken up due to network hiccups.
  • Fixed an issue causing users with controllers to be repeatedly prompted to press the confirm button through “Lost Password” flow even after confirming.
  • Users who exit out of the current match and ready up are now able to unready while party members are in game.
  • Fixed a bug causing some users to randomly disband from a party after a match concludes.
  • Sound FX of a canceled sorcery will no longer play twice.
  • Fixed a rare bug that prevented voice chat from being enabled.
  • Players can now see the login queue countdown when logging into Spellbreak with high server load.
  • Adjusted Nature’s Bounty cloudburst color scheme to better match preview icon.
  • Fixed a bug causing unlocked Cards to appear squished when viewed from the rank up reward notification.
  • Exiled players no longer get interaction button hints.
    • As nice as it would be to drink that potion, it feels a little mean to taunt you.
  • Fixed a bug causing the cursor to lose focus when receiving a party invite on the party invites section of friends screen.
  • Sound FX for the menu and title screen, mana recharge, and mana depletion are now correctly affected by the sound effects volume slider.
  • Improved tracking on emote wheel when using a mouse.
  • Setting voice input volume to zero now correctly mutes teammates.
  • When one player leaves a party of two or more when all of their teammates are ready, the party no longer instantly joins a match.
  • Fixed a number of typos.
    • These were the source of deep shame!
  • Fixed a number of untranslated strings.
  • Fixed a bug causing the spectate camera to focus on the lobby map instead of another player when the spectate button is pressed immediately after being exiled.
  • Fixed an issue causing lag when getting exiled.
  • Fixed a bug causing the incorrect class icon to appear next to unlocked skill up on Mage Rank up.
  • And of course, fixed a whole bunch of miscellaneous crashes.

Also of note, the developers have clarified the Halloween-themed outfits and how it’ll be released,

Here’s Our First Look at Tom Holland as Nathan Drake in Uncharted Movie

Tom Holland has shared via his Instagram page our first look as Nathan Drake for the upcoming Uncharted movie!

Check out the photo below, and see if the MCU’s Spider-Man fits the bill as one of Sony’s most iconic video game character.

Directed by Ruben Fleischer — who ironically directed the Venom movie in 2018 as well as the Zombieland films, the Uncharted movie is a prequel to the games and also stars Mark Wahlberg as Sully. The film is set for release on July 16, 2021

As for the video game itself, the last Uncharted game released was Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, which put a punctation point on Nathan Drake’s swashbuckling adventures. Naughty Dog has not given word on whether we’ll see a new entry in the franchise in the future, but here’s to hoping!

Also of note, Tom Holland, who’s notorious for leaking movie details regarding the films he’s in, has tweeted a message about Sony being pissed at him if he leaked a picture of him as Nathan Drake.

Hyper Scape Update 1.21 October 22 Includes Aiming Improvements & More

Ubisoft has released the Hyper Scape update 1.21 October 22 which has quite a number of gameplay improvements for console players! Check out the full patch notes below, which includes controller aiming improvements, FOV slider and more.

Hyper Scape Update 1.21 October 22 Patch Notes:

NEW FEATURES

CONTROLLER AIMING IMPROVEMENTS

A new exponential aiming curve has been added for controllers and the behavior of the other curves has been improved. The three aiming curves (classic, linear and exponential) now use the same speed / top speed settings. We also fixed some issues where the diagonal speed was sometimes different between vertical & horizontal speed, which should increase the comfort when aiming.

This comes with new aiming settings to customize your controller:

  • Horizontal extra speed
  • Vertical extra speed
  • Horizontal extra speed (ADS)
  • Vertical extra speed (ADS)
  • Extra speed delay
  • Extra speed time
  • Extra speed delay (ADS)
  • Extra speed time (ADS)

We also added an outer threshold (dead zone) setting that should fix most input issues with controllers.

NEW DEFAULT SETTINGS & SETTINGS RESET

With the arrival of the new aiming curve system, we made a pass on all default aiming settings; we also decided to reset all the aiming-related settings for controllers to make sure everyone would benefit from the changes (if you experienced any control issues it is recommended you restore the default setting manually first).

  • Auto-Sprint is now ON by default (true for PC & Consoles)
  • Controllers only:
  • Default controller layout is now Instant Melee.
  • Exponential curve is selected by default
  • Controller Aim assist is set at 100 by default.
  • Input Smoothing is OFF by default
  • All default aiming settings for controller have been updated. This includes sensitivity, ADS, extra speed delay and time settings.

NEW CONTROLLER LAYOUTS

2 new controller layouts have been added: Reverse Bumper, which is a copy of the shoulder jump layout with reversed button functions and Stick Jumper, which allows player to jump with the right stick.

Also, Instant Melee action has been added to all layouts, except the “default” Hyper Scape layout. This means that the 3rd Emote action has become unavailable for certain layouts.

FOV SLIDER ON PS4 PRO AND XBOX ONE X

With improvements made to rendering in-game, a new field of view slider has been added on PS4 Pro and Xbox One X consoles.

Keep in mind that changing the default value might impact the overall visual quality of the game, as it affects the dynamic resolution scaling.

  • Default value: 80
  • Minimum value: 70
  • Maximum value: 105
  • Currently available on: PS4 Pro and Xbox One. Coming to PS4 and Xbox in a future Title Update, planned for November

Developer Notes: As we’ve communicated in the past, we’re committed to making this feature available on all platforms. The slider will be available on PS4 and Xbox consoles in a future Title Update coming in November!

HALLOWEEN

Season 2 will see the arrival of Hyper Scape’s first Seasonal Event: Halloween!

During this Event, Neo Arcadia will be switching to the Night setup and new limited-time game modes will continue to appear each week: Solo Crown Rush with Second Chance, then Dark Haze Squad. New items will also appear in the Shop, new Challenges will be available, and a Candy power-up will be present in all game modes. The Candies will provide a short speed boost as well as regen a chunk of your health.

CROWN RUSH (SOLO) WITH SECOND CHANCE

The Solo Crown Rush mode will come back during the first week of Halloween! It will include a new respawn mechanic called Second Chance that will give players the opportunity to get back into the fight if they get eliminated early in the match.

Any number of times you get eliminated during the first 4:40 minutes of the battle, you will get re-deployed via your Pod. You will reappear in the skies directly above your death location and will be able to fly where you want from there. An icon will mark where you died. You will not keep the equipment you looted prior to your death but will keep your ammo, so try to decide if you want to go back to the same spot to get your loot back or prefer to find a new, safer place to land.

Second Chance will only be active in Solo Crown Rush, and while this mode is available.

  • Mode Type: Solo
  • Sector Decay: Active
  • Victory Condition: Elimination + Crown
  • Weapons: Full Roster
  • Hacks: Full Roster
  • Second Chance Duration: 4:40
  • Max Number of Re-deployments: No Limit

DARK HAZE (SQUAD)

On the second week of Halloween, the Dark Haze Squad game mode will be available.

In Dark Haze, Neo Arcadia is plunged in darkness and covered by a thick fog reducing visibility, so watch out for enemies. In that mode, only certain weapons & hacks are available – but one of them is the Platform hack, that makes its debut in Hyper Scape!

  • Mode Type: Squad
  • Sector Decay: Active
  • Victory Condition: Elimination (no Crown)
  • Weapons: Limited Roster
  • Hacks: Limited Roster

HALLOWEEN KUDOS

Celebrate Halloween with your favorite streamers on Twitch!

During the Halloween Event, three Legendary Halloween Kudos will be available on the Crowncast, Hyper Scape’s Twitch extension. Purchase one of these new Kudos to show your support for your streamers with spooky bats or pumpkins!

FLOOR IS LAVA (SQUAD)

Floor is Lava is a new Squad-based limited-time game mode that will appear this season. In this mode, the lower levels of Neo Arcadia are covered by a lethal lava that will kill any contender falling into it in a matter of seconds! Only certain weapons and hacks are available in that mode – but one of them is the Platform hack.

  • Mode Type: Squad
  • Sector Decay: Active
  • Victory Condition: Elimination (no Crown)
  • Weapons: Limited Roster
  • Hacks: Limited Roster

WEAPONS

This patch introduces several important changes to the game balance, as well as comfort improvements for many weapons, especially explosive weapons. Also, following the previous patch, a second step has been made to strongly reinforce the value of ADS (aka “aiming mode”) vs. hip-fire in terms of aim-assist both on PC & Console, for all “bullet” weapons.

We know some changes will be polarizing in our community, but they are an important effort toward making the game more accessible. As always, we will be monitoring the game and your feedback closely to continue adjusting the balance.

HARPY

  • Strongly increased ADS Aim-assist.
  • Slightly reduced Hip-fire Aim-assist.

HEXFIRE

  • Rate of Fire: 970 RPM (previously 900)
  • Damage Falloff: 70m+ (previously 100m+)
  • Strongly increased ADS Aim-assist.
  • Slightly reduced Hip-fire Aim-assist.

RIPPER

  • Damage Falloff: 70m+ (previously 100m+)
  • Strongly increased ADS Aim-assist.
  • Reduced Hip-fire Aim-assist.

DRAGONFLY

  • Increased damage across Fusion to 20/20/20/20/23 (previously 18/18/18/18/21)
  • Strongly increased ADS Aim-assist.

RIOT ONE

  • Damage Falloff: 70m+ (previously 100m+)
  • Strongly increased ADS Aim-assist.
  • Reduced Hip-fire Aim-assist.

ATRAX

  • Increased ADS Aim-assist.
  • Slightly reduced Hip-fire Aim-assist.
  • Explosion Area of Effect: 5.5R (previously 4.5R)
  • Reduced the Explosion VFX size on screen.

D-TAP

  • Increased damage across Fusion to 9/9/9/9/11 (previously 5/5/5/5/6)
  • Rate of Fire: 160 RPM (previously 260)
  • Lock Range in Hip-fire: 30m (previously 35m)
  • Lock Range in ADS: 65m (previously 50m)

Developer Notes: The D-TAP has received both a damage boost and a reduction of its Rate of Fire. The overall result is an increase of damage accompanied by a less swarming feeling when you get hit. The lock ranges have been more strongly contrasted between hip-fire and ADS and will overall give the weapon a stronger value in ADS.

PROTOCOL V

  • Slightly increased ADS Aim-assist.

SKYBREAKER

  • Increased damage across Fusion to 43/47/53/60/68 (previously 40/44/50/56/64)
  • Explosion Area of Effect: 8.5R (previously 7R)

KOMODO

  • Increased damage across Fusion to 32/32/32/32/37 (previously 29/29/29/29/34)
  • Explosion Area of Effect: 3.5R (previously 2.5R)

SALVO

  • Increased damage across Fusion to 26/26/26/26/31 (previously 23/23/23/23/28)
  • Explosion Area of Effect: 5.5R (previously 4.5R)
  • Proximity Detonation Radius: 0.8R (previously 0.7R)

HACKS

HEAL

  • Heal Across Fusion (HP/s): 4.4/4.4/4.4/4.4/6.6 (previously 7.4/7.4/7.4/7.4/10.5)

Developer Notes: This change will reduce the hack’s heal power in relation to the newly reduced Health Regen speed, to avoid making Heal too obvious a choice.

INVISIBILITY

  • Effect Duration: 4s (previously 5s)

Developer Notes: The Invisibility/Invulnerable combo is currently too efficient and does not leave enough shooting opportunities for the opponents. This change will increase the minimum duration during which a player can’t use any of the two and is exposed.

INVULNERABLE

  • Effect Duration: 4s (previously 5s)

Developer Notes: Same comment & logic as for Invisibility.

MINE

  • Damage Across Fusion: 40/40/40/40/60 (previously 30/30/30/30/45)
  • The Mine now does High Environment Damage (same as Slam)

Developer Notes: The Mine is still an underused hack; this change makes it the most damaging hack by far and should give it a bigger value vs. other offensive hacks. The high environment damage has been increased to match the one from the Slam. This will allow it to destroy a Wall hack in one blow.

SHOCKWAVE

  • The Shockwave now does High Environment Damage (same as Slam)

WALL

  • Effect Duration: 15s (previously 9s)

MAGNET

  • Capture Time: 0.9s (previously 0.95s)

Developer Notes: The Magnet is currently strong in specific rare combat configurations. This change should make it a little less efficient to lock players, and we’ll continue monitoring it closely in the future.

PLATFORM

  • Effect Duration: 15s (previously 8s)

SYSTEMS

PLAYER HEALTH

  • Health Regen Trigger Delay: 15s (previously 5s)

Developer Notes: The health regeneration speed will be strongly reduced: It will now kick in after 15 seconds following the last damage received, instead of 5 seconds previously. The intention here is to force players to pause a bit between engagements and create more opportunities to conclude fights by an elimination.

PLAYER RANK THRESHOLDS

We’ve adjusted the Player Ranking thresholds for reaching specific Ranks to ensure they match up with the expectations of the community.

  • Silver Rank: 38,000 (previously 40,000)
  • Diamond Rank: 85,000 (previously 77,500)
  • Champion Rank: 125,000 (previously 105,000)

LOOT SYSTEM

The visuals of lootable weapons & hacks have been upgraded to be more visible at longer distance and show the Fusion level of the item before you get within looting range.

DEPLOYMENT SPEED

  • Increased horizontal speed by 5 meters/second
  • Increased vertical speed by 10 meters/second

Developer Notes: The deployment will now be a bit faster and feel more reactive in terms of navigation. This will be especially useful for the re-deployment of Second Chance.

BUG FIXES

GAMEPLAY

  • Fixed an issue where the Protocol V lens flare VFX would not disappear after switching weapon while the weapon was in ADS.

ONLINE

  • Fixed an issue where a player’s Season Score could display a negative value in the Profile page.

UI

  • Fixed an issue where changing the key binding for opening the World Map would prevent players from opening it.
  • Fixed an issue where the Solo game mode image was shown on the Play portal billboard even when the mode was not active.
  • Fixed an issue where the Osaka Joyrider thumbnail image in the Locker was different from what was shown in the 3D preview.
  • Fixed an issue where selecting the “Comics” button in the Hall of Champions portal would open a blank page. The button will be temporarily removed until there is a proper fix.
  • Fixed an issue where the “loading Crown” icon was present during the intro cinematic
  • Fixed several text & localization issues.

GENERAL

  • Fixed multiple crashes and improved the general stability of the game.

Don’t forget, the Halloween event is also live in the game as well and will be available until November 3 on all platforms.

Black Ops Cold War Beta Review & Final Thoughts – Rechambering

While we’ve talked a fair bit about Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s multiplayer based on the alpha, we’ve sunk our teeth into the Black Ops Cold War beta, and spent days poring over the gameplay, new scorestreak system, maps, guns and more, we’re here to give our Black Ops Cold War review of what we thought of the experience now that it’s over.

Time to Die

First off, when the first week of the beta hit the PS4, I immediately felt a difference in the time to kill (TTK) compared to the alpha. While YouTuber Xclusive Ace did the legwork and found that it’s essentially the same, the thing to blame here is the netcode.

black ops cold war alpha impressions

Sure, things changed during the second week, but Treyarch has been mum on what they changed. By and large, gunfights sometimes felt inconsistent and I attribute that mostly to the netcode. Thing is, Treyarch has avoided talking about it, and has even taken out any sort of ping meter in the game, so players have no clue what their connection quality is like, unless it’s super terrible that we’ll get a “lag” or packet burst icon on the right side of the screen during gameplay.

While netcode and connection issues have always been issue in Call of Duty, it seems to have been hiked up a notch in the Black Ops Cold War beta. Hopefully, this won’t be an issue come launch.

We’re Going Streaking!

We here at MP1st will have a feature on the stuff we want to change based from beta feedback, and one of main points is the scorestreak system. Even so, we think it’s important enough to warrant an entry here. Simply put: the new scorestreak system feels inferior to the old one in every way. Not only is there no tension or feeling of reward when you do get it, but the multiplier/scoring is whacked too. It does not reward objective play at all, and hanging back and playing super conservatively will net you a ton more points than taking objectives, which is the anti-thesis of why the scorestreak system was introduced in the first place.

(Gameplay by James Lara and captured on PS4)

As long as you’re getting a few kills, getting assists and doing objectives, you’re guaranteed to get your scorestreak rewards unless the game is over quick. This takes out all the tension one would feel in earning ‘streaks in the first place given you know you’ll get them regardless of what you do or how you perform.

With the way the new multiplier works, matches get bombarded in the latter half with streaks! Prepare for loads of UAVs, Counter-UAVs and the like to constantly be in the air. This means that the Ghost perk is esssentially a crutch perk.

I’m hoping Treyarch sees the light and just reverts the scorestreak system to what it was originally, but I doubt it’ll happen.

Black Ops Cold War Beta Scorestreaks Update

You Can’t See Me!

Another issue we had with the beta (which was shared by the community and even content creators) is how bad the enemy visibility was. It made some gunfights freel unfair and cheap given how hard it was to make out certain enemies, and whe you see the killcam, they can see you perfectly.

I’m honestly not sure how Treyarch will fix this. Will they add bright glowing markers on enemy characters like in Black Ops 4? Maybe add in an outline for enemies so they don’t blend in the background too much? Or maybe they’ll leave it as is (I hope not)? I’m hoping there’s an easy solution here and kinda curious how and if they’ll change this due to feedback.

Another thing that adds to this annoyance is how Operators on both sides can be similiar-looking characters. So say someone is using Sgt. Frank Woods on your team, the enemy team can also have the same Frank Woods which would make figuring out who is from which team another hurdle in identifying enemies.

Pace Is Ace

Sure, we’ve talked about some of the bad stuff in the beta, but it’s not all doom and gloom. For one, the pacing is excellent. If you got tired of Modern Warfare 2019’s overly slow pace, and reliance on doors and whatnot, then the Black Ops Cold War beta provided a bit of a respite. Here, you can actually run-‘n’-gun without feeling like you’re being penalized for it.

Black Ops Cold War Reserves

That feeling of using an SMG (submachine gun), rushing enemies? Yeah, that feeling is back in Black Ops Cold War.

You can choose to snipe, use an LMG (lightmachine gun) and hang back a bit and pick people out, or just go all out attacker mode with SMGs, and all are viable options — something I sorely missed from playing Modern Warfare 2019.

The maps play an important part in this too. Don’t expect doors or tons of windows for every lane in every map. Sure, Cartel is kind of a clusterfuck due to the grass obstructing your view in the middle area of the map, but for the most part, the maps are mostly free of any obvious camping places.

Yes, the pace this time is faster, so don’t expect TDM matches to finish due to the timer. This fact alone might make the return to COD multiplayer worthwhile.

Cautiously Optimstic

Overall, the Black Ops Cold War beta left me with mixed impressions. While I’m still anxious to try the final version of it out, part of me is worried that the scorestreak system, visibility issues and the like won’t be sorted at launch  — or at all, which would seriously dampen my excitement for it. However, given how we’re now able to run-‘n-gun again after 12 months of being forced to play in “safe spaces” and approach things slow or die in Modern Warfare, that part of being able to play COD like it was before fills me with joy.

Black Ops Cold War Multiplayer Trailer

There are issues with the Black Ops Cold War beta, but most of ’em are changes Treyarch can do in a short amount of time, so for now, I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt that these will be sorted come launch, though the studio hasn’t made any mention of the issues mentioned above, which is a cause for concern for me personally.

At the very least though, proper running and gunning in COD multiplayer is back in Black Ops Cold War, and that fact alone makes me excited to see how things turn out on November 13.

There are loads to talk about which we’re leaving for the actual review. Stay tuned to our Black Ops Cold War beta feedback feature where we list the things we want changed! That’ll be hitting the site very soon.

Black Ops Cold War Datamined Weapons Reveal Barret M82 & Strike Shotgun

While the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War beta is over, it looks like more info regarding the final game has surfaced in the form of datamined weapons. For today, the community managed to unearth Black Ops Cold War datamined weapons in the form of the Barret M82 sniper and the Striker shotgun.

Barret M82
byu/bigoof68 inblackopscoldwar

Striker shotgun also found in the game files like the Barrett M82.
byu/bigoof68 inblackopscoldwar

Same as with any datamined info, note that this is unconnfirmed and given it’s datamined, there’s no guarantee we’ll see it in the final game. But then again, usually datamined weapons do make it into the final game.

Speaking of the beta, it looks like the Prestige system is coming back as seen from the beta.

Don’t forget to check out the visibility issues in the game as shown in this article. Also in the beta, there are cheaters in the beta which we’re hoping Treyarch can stomp out come launch.

Borderlands 3 New Skills Trees Revealed as Part of Designer’s Cut

In case you didn’t know, Gearbox is releasing a Borderlands 3 Designer’s Cut on November, which will include new content. Some of the new content included are Borderlands 3 new skill trees for some characters!

In a press release, Gearbox announced new skills for Amara and FL4K!

Amara‘s new Phaseflare Action Skill summons a giant, controllable orb of elemental destruction that lets her bowl a bloody path through the opposition. Meanwhile, her Enlightened Force Skill Tree lets her freeze enemies using Cryo elemental effects, rounding out her toolkit of natural elements. The passive abilities in the Enlightened Force tree help her maximize elemental damage and slow enemies down so they have no hope of outrunning her Phaseflare.

FL4K gains some reliable crowd control with their new Gravity Snare Action Skill. This long-lasting skill periodically tosses nearby enemies into the air, interrupting their attacks before painfully slamming them back to the ground. The passive abilities in the Trapper Skill Tree give FL4K and their pet huge survivability increases via shield bonuses, as well as added damage through increased critical hit effects.

This Thursday, October 22, Gearbox will also showcase Moze and Zane’s new skill trees in action. It will be shown at the official Borderlands Twitch channel at 9 a.m. PT/12 noon ET. This episode will alos reveal the new Arms Race mode, plus dev interviews and more.

The Designer’s Cut add-on can be bought separately or as part of the Season Pass. Season Pass 2 will include two new all-new DLC add-ons — the Designer’s Cut and Director’s Cut — and will be out on November 10.

For  more on the Season Pass 2 and next-gen features, head on overe here.

Report: Black Ops Cold Level Cap Hints at the Return of Prestige, Weapon Prestige Spotted

With last year’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare doing away with the franchise’s tried-and-true Prestige system in favor of seasonal ranks, some might be wondering whether Black Ops Cold War will continue last year’s model or if Prestige will be back once again.

Based on the Black Ops Cold War beta, it looks like Prestige is indeed coming back! Twitter user Sorradude posted an image of the progression tab in the Black Ops Cold War beta when it was updated, and it shows the familiar level cap of 55!

Call of Duty multiplayer vets will be familiar with the level cap, as level 55 is usually the last level players can rank up to before being able to prestige! In Modern Warfare 2019, the usual level cap was changed to move past level 55, and players were able to level up until the max level of 155 in each season.

Another thing that heavily hints at Prestige returning in Black Ops Cold War’s level progression is the mention of weapon prestige in the beta! Reddit user Lil-cumstain- posted an image from the beta where the game is asking whether they want to prestige the weapon or not, and in oding so, the player will be able to tag that specific weapon with their clan tag — something that should be familiar to Call of Duty players!

Of course, this is not outright confirmation that the Prestige system will be back in Black Ops Cold War. For all we know, this could be leftover stuff like the mention of “reserves” and “crates” which Treyarch confirmed was just leftover code.

However, if weapon prestige is back, chances are high that the actual Prestige ranking and progression system are back as well. As a long-time Call of Duty fan, I’d want to see Prestige return again since it adds another element to the whole grind.

Note that given these both came from the beta, there’s a chance that Treyarch has moved away from this progression to something else entirely for the final game. We’ll know for sure once Black Ops Cold War shoots out this November 13 on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Would you want Prestige to return in Black Ops Cold War or do you prefer what Infinity Ward did with Modern Warfare?
