Dying Light 2 Dark Zones will Be More Intense due to Ray-Tracing

Developers Techland discusses how ray-tracing is making Dying Light 2 dark zones a whole lot scarier.

Speaking in the latest issue of OPM (Official PlayStation Magazine), Techland’s rendering director Tomasz Szałkowski opens up on how ray-tracing is improving their game and giving Dying Light 2 dark zones a darker, scarier and intense feeling.

Dying Light 2 is the largest game created using our in-house C-engine. It is very important for us to achieve our ambitions in terms of graphics, which is why this will be the first Techland production to support ray tracing. We are implementing it in cooperation with Nvidia [on PC] and using the latest achievements in this domain.

Thanks to this technology, our shadows in sunny weather look like they really would (among other reasons, because they take into account the size of the sun in the sky). Ambient occlusion effects have gained spatial stability and no longer suffer from compromises tied to the specifics of effects affecting screen space (they operate only on what is visible on the screen, meaning the floor under a table doesn’t affect the displayed image when we look down at the tabletop)

Dark Zones are an important element of our game, which is why we are experimenting with secondary illumination (reflected off surfaces) from artificial light sources (such as the player’s flashlight), which will make the experience of exploring these regions even more intense.

While the quote only mentions PC, next-gen console buyers (PS5, Xbox Series X) can rest easy knowing that the next-gen version of Dying Light 2 will indeed support ray-tracing on both systems. Dying Light 2 currently does not have a release date as the studio announced a delay back in January. We most likely won’t hear about one anytime soon either, with the current COVID-19 pandemic happening and all.

Boundary Is an Outer Space FPS Coming to PS4 and PC This Year

Tired of your usual military first-person shooter? Perhaps you want one set in outer space? Well, if so, there’s one coming later this year. Called “Boundary,” it’s a first-person shooter set in outer space!

Check out the game’s trailer below.

According to developer Surgical Scalpels Studio, they’re building Boundary as a “more simulative, low-orbit environment shooter.” Gamers will play as armed astronauts or what the game calls “AO” or Astroperators.

Being set in space, players won’t be restricted to the laws of gravity like in other shooters, though this means it will also open up challenges not usually present as well. As for customization, players can choose to be an Assaulter or a Sniper Specialist.

Boundary will be releasing later this year on both PC and PlayStation 4. It’s unlikely to be coming to the Xbox One as this is being funded under PlayStation’s China Hero Project, a program meant to help studios in China reach other territories in the global market.

Next Risk of Rain 2 Survivor to be Decided by the Community

Voting for the next Risk of Rain 2 survivor has commenced, giving players the chance to decide which Survivor will be in a future update.

In total, there are seven characters that can be voted on, six of them being existing characters from the previous game and the last a new mystery survivor. The full list of characters can be found below:

  • Sniper
  • Miner
  • Han-D
  • Enforcer
  • Chef [VOTE FOR THIS ONE IT’S TOTALLY NOT MY CHOICE]
  • Bandit
  • Mystery Survivor

Voting began on March 31st and will last until April 7th. Down below you can find the current standing as of April 1st.

:mystery_poll: Entirely New Survivor (21,479 votes)

:sniper_poll: Sniper (19,293 votes)

:chef_poll: Chef (18,000 votes)

:enforcer_poll: Enforcer (11,523 votes)

:bandit_poll: Bandit (9,160 votes)

:miner_poll: Miner (5,309 votes)

:hand_poll: HAN-D (3,048 votes)

If you wish to participate in the poll, make sure to join the official Risk of Rain 2 discord channel. We would like to point out that just because only one of these characters will win, it doesn’t rule them out of appearing in the game in a future update. This is especially true as the game files actually hold most of these unfinished characters with some even appearing in the background of the character select screen.

We’ll be sure to post the winning Risk of Rain 2 Survivor once the final count is revealed, and expect them to appear in a future update (PC first Consoles after) soon after. Risk of Rain 2 is now available on all major gaming platforms. Steam is currently holding a free weekend if anyone is interested in trying it. I highly recommend it as it offers countless hours of fun, and even more with friends.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered Review – Hard Decisions

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has always been considered my favorite in the Modern Warfare series. From it’s excellent multiplayer to its extremely controversial campaign, the game felt like a proper sequel to an already stellar game. So when Activision shadow dropped it just a couple of days ago, I was eager to jump back in just to see how much of an improvement has been made. To say the least, outside of the absence of multiplayer, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered still holds up, and the fresh coat makes it one of the more impressive remasters out there today. Read on for our full Modern Warfare 2 Remastered review.

It’s crazy to think that it’s been a little over a decade since the release of Modern Warfare 2 on the PS3 and Xbox 360. That’s a whole full generation ago, and yet despite that, this newly remastered version looks as if it’s coming out of this generation. Much like the remaster of the first Modern Warfare, the sequel sees textures and character models, along with lighting and coloring all reworked. While it certainly isn’t going to blow people’s minds away, it will surprise many by how much better it looks over the original release.

To give you a better idea of how much of a difference it is, YouTuber ElAnalistaDeBits recently uploaded a side-by-side comparison of the original and remastered.

Beenox Studio really did knock it out with the visuals, which isn’t surprising as they were behind the first remastering. I had to stop a few times to stare at some of the textures, just thinking to myself, did the game look like this when it came out? And no, it absolutely didn’t. The improvements are day and night, making this well worth a revisit for old fans, and well suited for new ones.

As for the story, what can I really say about it that wasn’t said ten years ago? It was a fantastic follow-up to the original, and the theme it set out to tell still holds up even for today. Sure, many may see Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2019 shadowing it with some of its own controversial missions, but mind you this is a game that came out over ten years ago, it would be ashamed if the new one didn’t do just that. Does that mean you should view the campaign of Modern Warfare 2 any less? Of course not, I think it’s one of Infinity Ward’s best in terms of plot, as it always would keep players on the edge of their seats with all the controversial sections and jammed pack, Michael Bay action. It was fun for the time, and that still hasn’t changed outside of the now improved visuals.

Not the Definite Version…Yet

Despite highly recommending players to give the Modern Warfare 2 Remastered another go, I wouldn’t quite say it is the best version of the game yet. Why? Well, because it doesn’t have any co-operative or online multiplayer. While the vastly superior visuals may be enough for some players, the lack of its core experience is a significant disappointment and most likely will deter fans. I would have loved to see the old multiplayer get the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered multiplayer treatment, as the sequel is perhaps my favorite in the franchise, but sadly with 2019 being heavily supported it’s understandable why Infinity Ward doesn’t want to split the player base any further than it already has. Still, multiplayer is in the series blood, and it is odd to see no multiplayer launching for such a major title rerelease. In the very least, Spec Ops would have been nice since I found that to be the worse part of the new game. And as it stands, the only way to experience the multiplayer is by playing the original release. PS4 owners are out of luck altogether if they don’t own a PS3 or another playable platform, but PC and Xbox One players can still enjoy them. At this point it’d be a matter of preference; Do you buy a remaster just for better graphics, but with half the content? Or do you take the dive and play an uglier version of the game to experience it all in its original form? Tough call, though I suppose it’s fair to say that the price point for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered does reflect that as its only $20 on the storefronts.

SCORE: 7.5/10

PROS

  • The frame-rate on the original was already rock solid, doesn’t change here if not slightly improved
  • Incredible visual bump makes the game look completely new
  • Remarkable story that kept everything from the original intact
  • Fun fast, classic Modern Warfare gameplay
  • A few surprises added for this new release

CONS

  • No competitive multiplayer whatsoever. It could be a tough buy for many, but the price reflects that.
  • Some audio bugs (cutting out, volume, and more)

Resident Evil 3 Remake Review: In the Shadow of a Giant

As a fan of the Resident Evil franchise since essentially day one, Resident Evil 2 was always my favorite due to the unheard of (at the time) replay value. As such, Resident Evil 3: Nemesis felt like a step backwards with a far more linear campaign, eschewing the “Zapping System” from Resident Evil 2 which allowed you to play the game four different times and have four relatively unique playthroughs, depending on which character you started with. As a result, Nemesis felt like a much shorter, less rewarding experience. Capcom managed to do the impossible (to me) when they remade Resident Evil 2 (and it did splendidly) by making a game that largely improved upon the experience of the original while keeping most of what made me love it in the first place. Curious? Read on for our full Resident Evil 3 Remake review.

Resident Evil 3 Remake Review

When I found out they were giving Resident Evil 3 the same treatment a year later, I was hoping for the same type of improvements. In many ways they nailed it. In others, they missed an opportunity and released a game that feels like an expansion to Resident Evil 2, instead of a proper full-fledged game.

resident evil 3 remake news

The Gory Story

The story follows much of the same beats as the original with a few key differences mostly in the second half of the game. Starting two days prior to the events of Resident Evil 2, and ending shortly after, Jill Valentine finds herself being pursued by a seemingly unstoppable monster (she later finds to be called “Nemesis,” natch) while assisting UCB member Carlos and his team escape the city that is now overrun by zombies and other manner of things that want to kill you.

Jill Valentine is a great character. She feels confident but never cocky and she’s extremely likable. Carlos is much improved this time around. He believes he’s doing the right thing and doesn’t fully grasp exactly what his employers have done…at first.

While the basic story is the same, the clocktower section is excised making the experience much more truncated. There are also no branching paths. Just a linear straight shot to the climax. It does make for a tighter, more focused experience, but it also means the game is absurdly short. It’s entirely possible for the game to be beaten on a first run in under six hours (it took me eight because I am obsessive about running back to store things I might need later which means a lot of backtracking). However, once you complete the story, the game does offer some incentives to play it again by unlocking “power up” items you can purchase with in game currency to go for those higher ranking playthroughs. These items do take up inventory space though, so choose wisely.

As Deep as a Puddle of Blood

It doesn’t end with the story that comes up short, it’s also, surprisingly, the depth of the game as well. There are far fewer puzzles, weapons and upgrades this time around as well. Also, Mr X, while a more limited villain than the Nemesis, felt much more foreboding than what we get here, which is basically a triggered boss fight four times. I am loathe to compare one game to another in most cases but the feeling that this game had lots of compromises to its ambition can’t be shaken when Capcom got nearly everything right a year ago.

Through most of the game you’ll play as Jill, and this is where the game focuses on the survival horror, adventure game elements. Jill will need to explore and acquire key items to open locks, get through chained fences and so on and she has to do this with minimal inventory slots. This makes every item she picks up extremely valuable, no matter what it is. She is also the only one who has to deal with Nemesis which are either sections where you will need to avoid getting pummeled by it or fight him as all of the boss battles in the game. Resident Evil 3 breaks up the gameplay styles by having you play as Carlos for two sections of the game. In his sections, Carlos can take more damage and has a fully automatic assault rifle with a ton of ammo. This makes his sections easier, but also more action oriented as opposed to survival horror. He also disappears for large portions of the game which has me wondering if future DLC will feature these sections. It’s also comical how many healing items he gets where as Jill gets much fewer outside of the Nemesis boss fights.

Standing in the Shadow of a Giant

That isn’t at all to say Resident Evil 3’s remake is a bad game. It’s not. At all. The core gameplay is just as good, if not better than Resident Evil 2 with the addition of a dodge button. Shooting feels great. The new enemies provide a significant challenge and are all extremely satisfying to kill. The presentation is also stellar. It’s every bit as beautiful as its predecessor, and the new character models for Jill an Carlos surpass Leon and Claire. Having most of the first act of the game taking place outside on the ravaged streets of Raccoon City allows the RE Engine to flex its lighting and rendering muscles (I would love to see a much more expansive, explorable version of the city in this engine rather than the few streets and alleys we get here but I digress). It’s a drop dead gorgeous game and it sounds great as well. I played with my headset on through most of my playthrough and the sound design is staggeringly immersive and the performances rise to meet it.

Resident Evil 3 Remake is extremely polished, gorgeous, and a ton of fun to play. It’s really the content where the game falls short and that is disappointing for a $60 game that feels less like a sequel to a remarkably fantastic game and more like a decent sized piece of DLC.

Note that the game includes Resident Evil Resistance, the asymmetrial multiplayer game as a freebie. We’ll have a separate review of that soon.

Score: 7.5/10

Pros

  • Killing monsters is always fun and satisfying
  • Stunning visual presentation and sound design
  • A solid retelling of the story in Resident Evil 3: Nemesis
  • In game currency for bonuses to be used in multiple playthroughs

Cons

  • It’s so short that it feels like it should have been DLC for Resident Evil 2 Remake
  • Lacks the depth of its predecessor

Marvel’s Avengers Game Gear Have 100+ Unique Perks

It’s been a while since we last heard about anything related to the Marvel’s Avengers game, and while most of the talk regarding it have been about how the characters look, and the different in-game costumes available, people might have forgotten that the actual “gear” in the game aren’t just cosmetics, but actually gameplay affecting items.

In case you didn’t see it, we reported on the Marvel’s Avengers game gear and power level last year, and even posted a picture of what it looks like. Apparently, there’s going to be a lot of customization to do in terms of gear, as Crystal Dynamics confirmed that there are over 100+ unique perks tied to gear alone. This was mentioned by Crystal Dynamics dev vnapoli3313 when answering fans on the game’s subreddit.

Actually we have a bunch of pretty cool twists up our sleeves for how Artifacts stand out among other items. They are definitely unique.

I cant wait until we get to demonstrate some of the stuff we’ve done with them!

Most of those perks were early tests. A lot of work has been done to overhaul that system, but there are easily 100+ unique perks for gear alone. Perks are also exclusive to the slot item and perk slot on the items themselves.

Hopefully, this means that we’ll get a new look at the game soon, as from Crystal Dynamics’ last mention of it, Marvel’s Avengers is still due September 2020. We’ll be sure to keep you updated on all the latest news for Marvel’s Avengers game.

E3 2021 Event Date Announced

It’s official, E3 2021 has been dated with it starting on June 15 and lasting until June 17.

The news comes from Gameindustry.biz, who discussed with partners at the ESA (The Entertainment Software Association). They stated that they would hold a “reimagined” event next year, though they didn’t specify exactly what that meant. For those who weren’t aware, E3 2020 was canceled (along with several other events) due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The ESA made comments earlier in the year about working with partners to deliver some sort of online experience, though that is currently yet to be revealed.

“exploring options with our members to coordinate an online experience to showcase industry announcements and news in June 2020.”

We expect to see an official statement made by the ESA on their website real soon, and most likely their plans revolving around their E3 2020 replacement. Whether they’re canceled or not we shall learn very soon. We’ll be sure to keep you all updated on E3 2021, and will update this post once the official statement is issued.

As for them “reimagining” E3, what do you guys think that might mean? Or, what do you guys think they need to do in order to improve the event? Let us know down below!

Warframe Scarlet Spear Patch 27.3.8.2 Changes Listed, Operation Extended a Week

While Digital Extremes has aleady shared the massive Warframe Operation Scarlet Spear patch notes for PC a few weeks ago, the Warframe Scarlet Spear patch 27.3.8.2 is live, and brings a host of new changes, an extended Operation date, and new cosmetics!

First off, Digital Extremes has announced that Scarlet Spear will be extended a week due to early launch issues. The new end date is April 28 on PC. Now onward to the patch notes below.

Warframe Scarlet Spear patch 27.3.8.2 changes:

Scarlet Spear Additions & Changes:
First: Scarlet Spear will be extended by 1 week due to the early launch issues. April 28 is the new End Date for Scarlet Spear on PC.

Second: Ground Assault and Murex Raid Scoring have been increased – which means Scarlet Credit earning has been increased!

Before: Ground Assault missions started at 5 Points per Kill Code, reaching a possible 2295 points by round 17.
After: Ground Assault missions now start at 8 Points per Kill Code, reaching a possible 4104 points by round 17!
After: Ground Assault missions will reach a possible 4131 points by Round 17!

Before: Murex Raids started at 10 Points per Kill Code, reaching a possible 1875 by Murex 5.
After: Murex Raids now start at 12 Points per Kill Code, reaching a possible 3888 by Murex 5!
After: Murex Raids missions will reach a possible 3960 by Murex 5!

Scoring Calculation Issues:

Earlier today / we released a revised scoring post with the following details:
Ground Assault missions started at 8 Points per Kill Code, reaching a possible 4104 points by Round 17!
After: Murex Raids now start at 12 Points per Kill Code, reaching a possible 3888 by Murex 5!

However, players are receiving a 2820 and 3672 for Space and Ground respectively. While this is still an increase from before, it is not the amount we announced.
The correct numbers in the next Hotfix will be:
After: Ground Assault missions will reach a possible 4131 points by Round 17!
After: Murex Raids missions will reach a possible 3960 by Murex 5!

We sincerely apologize for another day of unintended scoring results, and this will be fixed next Hotfix. We know this has been confusing and we regret that we’ve caused so many misunderstandings due to calculation errors.

Third: Rare and Legendary Arcanes have been added to Little Duck’s Scarlet Spear Trade!

We have added the Rare and Legendary Arcanes to Little Duck’s Trade for 2000 Credits Per Rare and 4000 Credits Per Legendary.

Scarlet Spear Fixes:

  • Fixed players not getting into the ‘Busy’ Flotillas that they selected.
    • The scenario here occurred when selecting a ‘Busy’ Flotilla due to the Flotilla filling up very quickly with players. The fix here is to allow for extra room in the Flotilla if you attempted to join when there was still room available. You may now see Flotillas with more than 50 people from this change.
  • Fixed Clients not joining Scarlet Spear Flotilla Chat if they join the squad while the Host is transitioning to either Murex Raid or Ground Assault.
  • Fixes towards becoming stuck on infinite loading if either a Murex Raid or Ground Assault mission started before the Clients finished loading into Flotilla.
  • Fixed the OpLink denied sound playing for Host when it is denied for Client.

Healing AOE Review

We made a hasty change in Hotfix 27.3.6 that removed Venari’s Heal aura from affecting Oplinks AND Defense Targets. Firstly, the terminology of calling Venari’s Defense Target healing a ‘fix’ was incorrect, so apologies there on my behalf. It’s correct to say it was a feature for Venari, considering it had its own Tip for it! The change stemmed from our desire to resolve Operation exploits as quickly as possible, and we didn’t communicate this properly.

We’re doing a deeper review on abilities that heal Defense Targets that we can speak to in the coming days.

Apologies as well for the late reply on this topic. We’ll update everyone when we’ve dug deeper and have an action plan.
General Changes:

  • Limbo’s Stasis duration now has diminishing returns on Sentients and Amalgams when the power is used repeatedly. This choice was made for 2 main reasons:
    • 1) Limbo’s Stasis usage makes the gameplay of the Scarlet Spear far too trivial.
    • 2) Sentients by design have Adaptation – and the diminishing returns on recasting adheres to the adaptive nature of the enemy.
    • This is not intended to change the way Stasis interacts with other enemy factions.
  • Removed Titania’s Exalted weapons appearing in the Codex Weapon section, as Exalted Weapons do not show here.

Optimizations:

  • The Pox, Acceltra, and Shedu have been given explosion FX tweaks for visual and performance improvement.
  • Optimized the Attica’s embedded projectiles to help CPU and GPU performance.
  • Optimized the Hystrix projectile trail and spark FX.
  • Removed the replication of the Basmu reload Health FX so that only the user will see the FX to aid in performance.
  • Performance improvements towards Grineer Crewships when their engines explode.

Railjack Fixes:

  • Fixed Sentient Exterminate objective randomly starting on POI hints.
  • Fixed Vidar Reactors Mk III missing their component modifiers for Warframe clients that are not in English.
  • Fixed script crash that could occur if you joined a Railjack mission at exactly the wrong moment.

Fixes:

  • Fixed ability to trigger the Shedu’s radial explosion multiple times during its cooldown.
  • Fixed Titania Prime’s energy wings not applying to her Razorwing when other Skins are equipped.
  • Fixed Titania’s Ironclad Flight Augment not functioning.
  • Fixed Titania/Grendel buff wheels showing up when the ability has not been unlocked yet. Also fixed the buffs being greyed out until you leveled up enough.
  • Fixed the Kuva Tonkor and Phantasma requiring an Orokin Catalyst to unlock its Exilus Slot instead of an Exilus Adapter.
  • Fixed inability to Polarize the Dark Split-Sword with Stance Forma or Umbra Forma.
  • Fixed the Corinth Prime missing its pump action animation.
  • Fixed some players appearing to be eligible for a Mastery Rank Test but upon selecting it would be rejected.
  • This was due to some weapons being considered as ‘Mastered’ when they were not.
  • Fixed the Shedu and Basmu reload FX being visible while invisible.
  • Fixed inability to Chat link Shedu and its parts.
  • Fixed Pennant sounds not playing correctly for Melee Stance Combos.
  • Fixed broken/missing UI for Clients in Hijack missions.
  • Fixed a script error after Host migration occurred during a Void Fissure mission.
  • Fixed a script error when playing Infested Salvage on Eris.
  • Fixed a script error when transitioning from Vallis/Plains to Fortuna/Cetus with the Synthesis Scanner equipped.
  • Fixed a script error when summoning the K-Drive.
  • Fixed a script error when catching a boot while Fishing.
  • Fixed a script error when casting Titania’s Tribute.

Scarlet Spear: TennoGen 27.3.8.1

Kuva Lich Fix:
We’ve fixed a code change that resulted in numerous Kuva Lich issues:

  • Fixed Kuva Lich Codex History and current Kuva Lich being incorrect (Names, Weapons, etc).
  • Fixed missing Kuva Lich UI button.
  • Fixed having no Kuva Lich Influenced Nodes.
  • Fixed inability to birth a new Kuva Lich via Kuva Larvling.

This Hotfix will put everyone’s Kuva Liches back to the way they were prior to Hotfix 27.3.8.

Scarlet Spear Fixes:

  • Potential fix for both Host and Client players not seeing Kill Code transmissions from other players, only Kill Code transmissions personally sent.
  • Fixed a script error when being attacked by the Aerolyst.

Fixes:

  • Fixed enemies becoming immune to all Status Effects when Titania’s Lantern and Spellbind is cast on them.

Scarlet Spear: TennoGen 27.3.8.2

Scoring Calculation Issues:

Earlier yesterday we released a revised scoring post with the following details:
Ground Assault missions started at 8 Points per Kill Code, reaching a possible 4104 points by Round 17!
After: Murex Raids now start at 12 Points per Kill Code, reaching a possible 3888 by Murex 5!

However, players were receiving a 2820 and 3672 for Space and Ground respectively. While this is still an increase from before, it is not the amount we announced.

The correct numbers in this Hotfix will be:
After: Ground Assault missions will reach a possible 4131 points by Round 17!
After: Murex Raids missions will reach a possible 3960 by Murex 5!

We sincerely apologize for another day of unintended scoring results.. We know this has been confusing and we regret that we’ve caused so many misunderstandings due to calculation errors.

Scarlet Spear Fixes:

  • Fixed Clients having an incorrect Murex Score in the ‘Skirmish Complete’ popup when completing 5 Murex Waves.
  • Fix towards Clients experiencing an infinite load tunnel into Murex Raid if the Host experiences lag.
  • Fixed a script error when joining in progress as a “Kill Code Transmission” starts to play.

Fixes:

  • Fixed a few tintmasks on the Wisp Delusion Skin to make her tint values consistent vs her various Helmets.
  • Fixed a script error occurring during a Host migration when playing a Defection mission.
  • Fixed a script error for Clients during The Jordas Precept.
  • Fixed a script error when throwing the Fishing Spear.

Consoles should be getting Scarlet Spear soon. You can check out the cosmetic items here.

Modern Warfare Rank Reset Bug and Progress Loss Happening to Players Now (Update)

It seems Call of Duty: Modern Warfare players are encountering a bug now that resets their progress and even Battle Pass. Multiple reports of a Modern Warfare rank reset bug and progress loss has been posted by people over on the Modern Warfare subreddit.

Uh, what? I should be like 151, has this happened to anyone else just now?

Rank and battle pass reset. Is anyone having this issue?

I know this is not only me but all my levels just reset to level 1, including my weapons and battlepass. I still have the attachments that I used!!! Whyyyyy!!!??? What’s going on?

Rank reset problem

Does anyone else have issues where your challenges and weapon levels reset?
by inmodernwarfare

And there are a lot more threads that popped up about the same thing. As you can see, it has also  affected weapon challenges, too! For now, the official Activision Support Twiter account and Infinity Ward themselves have not acknowledged it just yet.

We’ve contacted Activision regarding this and will update the post if we hear anything back. This isn’t the first time something like this has happened though, as back in December 2019, a game update was released which made everyone lose their ranks and progression. Of course, it was ultimately fixed, as this will be as well.

Could this latest Modern Warfare rank reset bug be because of the recently released playlist update? While I can’t say for sure, it is the only new thing released for the game before people got affected by the bug.

Are you experiencing the rank progression loss bug as well? If you found a quick fix, let us know what worked down in the comments.

Update (4/3/20): Activision has announced that it has fixed the issues!

Modern Warfare Playlist Update Released for a Fix, Deathmatch Domination Coming Next Week

Infinity Ward has rolled out a quick Call of Duty: Modern Warfare playlist update, though it doesn’t really change anything much. There’s no download required, and the only changes made are for overlapping text in the Call of Duty: Warzone menu, and the studio moved BR Solos into its own playlist button.

In addition to Modern Warfare playlist update, Infinity Ward held a poll to ask gamers what game mode they want to see in Modern Warfare next week, and the winner is, Deathmatch Domination, which is also my personal choice.

Those who haven’t tried Modern Warfare’s multiplayer mode, you can do so now, and for free! If you’ve already downloaded the free-to-play battle royale mode Warzone, you’ll instantly gain access to it for a limited time. Read up on all the details regarding this free weekend multiplayer trial right here.

In addition to that, Infinity Ward announced the start of Modern Warfare Season 3, and it’s next week! We also posted a rumor that surfaced stating Infintiy Ward has plans for more Modern Warfare sequels, and it’ll focus on the other horsemen.

New Apex Legends Event “Old Ways Lore” Announced

Those looking for something new in Apex Legends, you’re about to get it next week! Respawn has announced a new Apex Legends event called the “Old Ways Lore,” and this time, the focus is on Bloodhound.

The event starts April 7 and will run until April 21. Respawn will be bringing back Duos, as well as King’s Canyon come April 7, which includes a new Event Prize Track, and more.

Apex Legends “Old LWays Lore” Event details:

  • New Town Takeover – Bloodhound’s Trials
  • Exclusive Event Prize Track
  • Direct Purchase Shop
    • New Event Limited Cosmetics
    • Return of Legendary Hunt Skins

New Town Takeover – Bloodhound’s Trials

When the Apex Games came to World’s Edge, large predators vacated the area, leading to an explosion in the prowler population. Most were traced to a nest in the northwest portion of the arena, and here, Bloodhound saw an opportunity: maintain the ecosystem by pitting humans against beasts.

Dive into Bloodhound’s Trials, where you and your squad battle against a hoard of prowlers and claim high-tier loot as your reward. But beware the most dangerous game: fellow Legends who want to scavenge those goods for themselves. In moments of quiet, don’t forget to explore the enclosure, especially with a certain hunter at your side.

The Old Ways Exclusive Event Prize Track

As with the System Override Event, you’ll be able to earn up to 1000 points per challenge set and the challenge set will refresh at a daily rate. Plus, you’ll still be able to complete your battle pass challenges at the same time too.

Direct Purchase Shop

The Old Ways event will also see the return of the Legendary Hunt Skins! All eight of the original skins will be available for direct purchase, in addition to two recolored variants of the Wraith and R-301 skins that were previously exclusive to Battle Pass owners.

Finally, there’s a new trailer out as well, whcih is a new entry in the “Stories from the Outland” series. This one is titled “The Old Ways.” and puts the focus on Bloodhound.

Same as always, once the patch is out, we’ll make sure to let our readers know ASAP.

Rumor: 4 More Modern Warfare Sequels Planned; Will Focus on Each Horseman

With Infinity Ward kicking off a soft reboot of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare saga with last year’s Modern Warfare, it seems the studio has more games planned in the series, and it won’t strictly be rehashes of past Modern Warfare entries, but will be different Modern Warfare sequels.

Over on Twitter, reliable Call of Duty leaker TheGamingRevolution dropped the news that four more Modern Warfare games are being planned, and each story will give more story to each “horseman.”

https://twitter.com/TheGamingRevo2/status/1245946274735697920

He adds that this is the “general overview,” and how Infinity Ward wants to expand all the main character stories.

https://twitter.com/TheGamingRevo2/status/1245946276140761089

Same as before, treat this news with a bit of salt, as the info above is in no way confirmed. That said, TheGamingRevolution has been spot-on with his leaks, which means he does have someone in the inside giving him info.

Speaking of Modern Warfare and sequels, Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered got released earlier this week! If you’d rather watch it than play it, go check out our video walkthrough of the entire game. Stay tuned to our official review of it hitting the site soon.

Would you want more Modern Warfare sequels or should Infinity Ward just follow the franchise’s past campaign stories?

Battlefield 5 Ribbons Issue Won’t Be Fixed, Can’t Add More Limited Time Modes Due to Menu Issues Says DICE

While it’s been a rough week for Battlefield 5 in terms of news given we now know that double XP isn’t possible given it’s a tech issue, it seems another tech problem isn’t getting fixed again, and these are the Battlefield 5 Ribbons issue.

For those not familiar with Ribbons, it’s a standard award given in almost every Battlefield game. While it was originally featured in Battlefield 5 acting like they did in previous installments of the franchise, there was a Battlefield 5 Ribbon issue that made it so that it didn’t display the proper image or criteria when awarded, nor could they be viewed in a match’s post-action report, which prompted DICE to just remove them from the game entirely. Unfortunately though, we just got confirmation that DICE won’t be able to fix Ribbons at all.

Over on the Battlefield 5 subreddit, a fan asked if Ribbons are coming back, to which DICE Global Community Manager PartWelsh mentioned it’s “very unlikely,” and shared that there’s a “nasty bug in the code” which prevents it from coming back.

There’s a nasty bug in the code that governs it. Prior to 5.0 (where we killed it) the system was active but only worked on the first grant of the Ribbon. We could not convince the system to repeatedly recognise that you were due to receive a ribbon in multiple instances.

Eventually we identified that the resulting error was unresolvable without rebuilding the system. We asked ourselves how long it would take to completely rebuild it and what else we could do with the time instead. Given that we’d been without it pretty much since everyones very first round of Battlefield, we accepted that the time was better spent elsewhere.

It’s a shame. We designed Battlefield V to have the system and we’d rather it had it than not.

Aside from that, there’s another thing that players want that can’t be done, and that’s limited time modes (LTM) playlists. Reddit user Blothbather suggested that DICE adds Outpost, Grind, Rush & Frontlines game modes as part of the remainder of Chapter 6, and tagged Battlefield US Community Manager Jeff Braddock if it’s that possible. Well, the short answer is: it’s not.

You’re gonna hate this answer, and I’m sorry: The UI is limited by the number of playlists that can be in the UI. Therefore, if we added those 4 modes, we’d have to remove 4 things – and honestly, the team isn’t moving in that direction. Check my above reply on more playlists – it’s definitely something we’re exploring.

Hopefully, we’ll get more positive Battlefield 5 news in the coming days. I have to admit though, I’m so looking forward to the next Battlefield game so we can put everything behind us.

Are you annoyed at the Battlefield 5 Ribbons issue or you don’t really care? Let us know your thoughts below.

Report: Gearbox Stiffing Employees of Borderlands 3 Sales Bonuses

Despite “multiple record-setting milestones” for Borderlands 3 sales, it seems not all is well in developer Gearbox Software. A new report has surfaced stating that Gearbox has refused to pay the entire amount of royalty bonuses to employees.

In a new report by dependable industry reporter and leaker Jason Schreier, it mentions that there are six Gearbox employees who came forward anonymously with info. Apparently, Gearbox employees who were promised bonuses will still get paid, but with smaller bonus checks. The report states it’s “nothing close” to the tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands that the employees were expecting.

For more context, Gearbox, which is based in Frisco, Texas, offers employees below-average salaries per industry standards. To make up for this, the studio provides a unique profit-sharing scenario. Royalties from all of the developer’s games are split 60/40, with 60 percent going back to the company (and its owners), and the other 40 percent is distributed to employees in the form of quarterly bonuses. Well, that’s not the case with Borderlands 3, it seems.

The report also states that Gearbox management promised employees six-figure bonuses following the launch of Borderlands 3, with the offer that the longer the employee has been with Gearbox, the larger the check will be.

Apparently, at yesterday’s studio meeting, Gearbox head honcho Randy Pitchford told employees that Borderlands 3 sales bonuses would be significantly lower than what they’d hope, and stated that the game (Borderlands 3) had been more expensive to make than expected, how the company is bigger now (there’s a second studio in Quebec, Canada), and how the sales projections were off-base.

When pressed for a comment, here’s what Gearbox’s statement was concerning the Borderlands 3 sales bonuses:

Borderlands 3 represents an incredible value to gamers and an incredible achievement by the team at Gearbox Software. Our studio is talent-led and we believe strongly in everyone sharing in profitability. The talent at Gearbox enjoys participation in the upside of our games – to our knowledge, the most generous royalty bonus system in AAA. Since this program began, Gearbox talent has earned over $100M in royalty bonuses above and beyond traditional compensation.

In the most recent pay period Gearbox talent enjoyed news that Borderlands 3, having earned revenue exceeding the largest investment ever made by the company into a single video game, had officially become a profitable video game and the talent at Gearbox that participates in the royalty bonus system has now earned their first royalty bonus on that profit. Additionally, a forecast update was given to the talent at Gearbox that participates in the royalty bonus to set expectations for the coming quarters. Gearbox is a private company that does not issue forward looking statements to the public, but we do practice transparency within our own family.

Lastly, it’s mentioned that Pitchford told Gearbox employees that if they weren’t happy with the royalty system, they were welcome to quit.

Given the global COVID-19 pandemic happening worldwide, this couldn’t have come at a worst time for Gearbox employees. While this is all from anonymous sources within Gearbox, Jason Schreier leaks are always spot-on. Let’s hope this gets resolved one way or another.

The Last of Us 2 Delayed Again, No New Release Date

While we were all looking forward to The Last of Us 2 this May, it seems we’re going to have to wait yet again. Naughty Dog has announced The Last of Us 2 delayed news today.

Over on Twitter, Naughty Dog announced that while they are the midst of fixing the game’s final bugs, and that they are facing logistic issues beyond their control.

As you’ve likely just seen, the release of The Last of Us Part II has been delayed. We’re sure this news is just as disappointing to you as it is to us. We wanted to reach out to all of you in our community to give you a little more information.

The good news is, we’re nearly done with development of The Last of Us Part II. We are in the midst of fixing our final bugs.

However, even with us finishing the game, we were faced with the reality that due to logistics beyond our control, we couldn’t launch The Last of Us Part II to our satisfaction. We want to make sure everyone gets to play The Last of us Part II around the same time, ensuring that we’re doing everything poissible to preserve the best experience for everyone. This meant delaying the game until such time where we can solve these logistic issues.

We were bummed about this decision but ultimately understood it’s what’s best and fair to all of our players. We’re hoping that this won’t be a long delay and we’ll update you as soon as we havenew information to share.

We wish you all, your families, and your friends the best of health. Thank you for being amazing fans and your continued support.

Stay safe!

Naughty Dog

Unfortunately, there’s no date or timeframe when we should expect the game to ship. That said, given they are in the final stages of bug fixing, it shouldn’t be that long.

Sony Not Selling Modern Warfare 2 Remastered in Russia

With Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered released earlier this week, most gamers should be familiar with the game’s highly controversial campaign. It seems there’s one company not a fan of the game, and that’s Sony Russia as Modern Warfare 2 Remastered Russia sales have been blocked by Sony.

This was announced over on the official Russian Call of Duty Twitter account:

Translated, it says:

“Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered is a completely fictional 2009 campaign, recreated in HD quality. SIE decided not to sell the game in the Russian PS Store. We look forward to the release of the game in digital form for the PC in http://Battle.net and on Xbox consoles”

If you’ve played or completed the Modern Warfare 2 campaign, or just a video game fan in general, then you know there’s a highly sensitive and controversial chapter in the game titled “No Russian” that has the player doing rather unpleasant thing to people. It would make sense why Modern Warfare 2 Remastered Russia sales would be blocked.

Stay tuned for our Modern Warfare 2 Remastered review hitting the site soon, and remember: it’s just the campaign, as Activision has already confirmed it has no plans to release a remastered version of the multiplayer.

If you’re jonesing for a military shooter, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019) is getting a free weekend starting tomorrow! Read up on that here.

Soulcalibur 6 Update 2.11 Rolled Out for PS4

While Soulcalibur 6 gamers just got the big v2.10 patch earlier this week that brought in Samurai Shodown’s Haohmaru, Bandai Namco has released Soulcalibur 6 update 2.11 on PS4.

According to the Japanese website, Soulcalibur 6 update 2.11 is a PS4-only patch that has been rolled out to optimize network function. Yep, basically that’s it. We’ve included bits of the earlier 2.10 notes below just in case anyone needs a reminder.

Battle System

Version 2.10 will see guest character Haohmaru added to the roster. Use his incredible destructive power to cut down foes with one powerful hit!
With the addition of a new character, we have implemented the following fixes.
 - Made behavioral adjustments to the new battle mechanic added in Season 2.
 - Fixed unintended issues that occurred on certain stages.
 - Adjusted character behavior, mainly hitboxes and tracking.
When a short custom character uses a tall regular character’s move, the opponent’s attack would sometimes unintentionally miss. To help prevent this from happening, we mainly extended the lower hitbox of certain high attacks and
middle attacks that were most likely to have this issue.
In Version 2.02, custom characters using Kilik’s or Grøh’s fighting style could destroy their own equipment at will when entering soul charge. Since this has been very well-received, we enabled this function for all fighting styles and
added an option to select which part of the equipment will be destroyed.

You can check the rest of the 2.10 patch notes which includes a balance pass on fighters here.
