Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Update 1.42 Set for Next Week, and Here’s What to Expect

Treyarch has announced that the next Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 title update, Black Ops 4 update 1.42, is set to drop next week, and it’ll include tweaks to how armor works in Blackout, and lots more.

Classic & Loot Weapons in Zombies

Five additional weapons are coming to Zombies next week! We’re adding the MP 40, Grav, Daemon 3XB, SWAT RFT, and KAP 45 to the Mystery Box across every Black Ops 4 Zombies map for all players, as well as the Zombies Armory for full camo progression and customization. Classic weapons (MP 40 and Grav) will be unlocked by default in the Armory, and customization for loot weapons will become available in the Armory as they’re unlocked in the Black Market.

Blackjack’s Gun Game in Multiplayer

Blackjack is back with an updated selection for this special take on Gun Game, now featuring the KAP 45 full-auto pistol in the mix. You know the deal: survive an all-out free-for-all with a different weapon awarded for each kill, and a demotion for death by melee. Be the first to get through the full arsenal before everyone else to secure the win.

“Ambush” Limited-Time Mode in Blackout (PS4)

Our next limited-time mode arrives in Blackout next week on PS4 with Ambush! Get the drop on your enemies using only sniper rifles, melee attacks, and launchers while surviving a circle that never stops collapsing once it starts.

This hectic new mode will replace Down But Not Out in the Featured Playlist slot next week on PS4, while Down But Not Out runs on Xbox One and PC for the second week of its two-week run. Thanks again for your awesome feedback on our new limited-time modes, and let us know what you think about Ambush once you’ve had a chance to jump in.

IX Gauntlet in Zombies (PS4)

Our second Zombies Gauntlet arrives with “Vini, Vidi, Zombie!” in IX starting Jan. 29 on PS4. Battle the undead through 30 rounds of new challenges, and race against the clock to prove your gladiatorial skills to the rest of the world… or die trying.

Regional Blackout Playlists

For our Blackout players in lower-population server regions, including South America and South Africa: changes are coming! We’ve continued to examine the data and investigate options that will provide the best experience for all players in these regions, and while condensing the number of playlists still proves to be the best option to ensure fuller lobbies, we’ve heard your requests for a wider variety of gameplay options.

Starting today, we’re testing out a region-based rotating Featured Playlist that will rotate multiple times per week. Today, you’ll see the Blackout Featured Playlist shift from Down But Not Out to Duos, and this will change again on Tuesday. Thanks for bearing with us while we test further options to make Blackout the best experience it can be for everyone around the world.

Incoming: Camo Progression in Blackout, Mastercraft/Reactive Camo/Black Market Camo Support in Zombies, and Mastery Camos in Blackout and Zombies

We’re also planning on launching Blackout’s full camo progression system following the initial rollout of the 1.12 update, as well as support for Mastery Camos in Blackout and Zombies. These features work a bit differently compared to the current camo systems in Multiplayer, and we’ll be putting the finishing touches on them shortly after releasing the updates listed above. Support for Mastercrafts, Reactive Camos, and Black Market Camos in Zombies is also planned to go live in this timeframe.

League Play Update

We’ll have more news to share next week about the upcoming rollout of League Play and the World League Hub. We’ve made some fundamental changes to Black Ops 4’s Ranked system since we first announced our plans, as well as numerous important updates to the CWL ruleset that will change how the game is played competitively for the better. Stay tuned for more intel soon.

Full patch notes will be available once the patch is live. In the meantime, don’t forget that double XP and 2x weapon XP is live in multiplayer now.

BioWare Gives Anthem Demo Infinite Loading Glitch Workaround, EA Lists Current Issues Demo Has & It’s Not Pretty

If you’ve been trying unsuccessfully to play the Anthem VIP demo, you’re not alone. As far as we know, all three platforms are suffering connectivity issues now, which BioWare says is not related to servers at all.

Now, if you did manage to connect, there’s another bug hindering you from playing, and it’s the Anthem demo infinite loading bug! From personal experience, I’ve encountered it  countless times regardless if I was trying to play an Expedition, Freeplay, etc. While no Anthem demo infinite loading glitch fix has been rolled out just yet, there is a workaround that I can confirm worked for me!

Executive Producer Mark Darrah shared the method on Twitter, and it involves hard quitting the game.

Not a fix, BUT: If you are hitting the 95% load hang Try quitting out and restarting. You may get a message, “Game server detected, do you want to rejoin?” say yes. That MAY get past the block. Again, not a fix, but it may get you past.

By “quitting,” this means you have to stop the application and reboot the game. Once you’ve entered the servers successfully, you’ll be asked if you want to rejoin your recent Expedition, and picking yes will take you out of the infinite loading screen of doom. Again, it’s not a fix, but it is a workaround that has worked for lots of people (including me).

In related Anthem demo news, the official EA support page has listed down the known Anthem demo issues, and it’s not pretty.

We’re currently tracking issues for the Anthem VIP Demo and the team is working very diligently to quickly resolve them.
Here’s the current list of the most reported and known issues affecting some players.

  1. Infinite loading screens when launching the game or entering an expedition.
  2. Unable to get past the Anthem title screen.
  3. Some Xbox One players are unable to access the Anthem VIP demo.
  4. Some players are unable to access their Anthem VIP demo friends codes.

At the time of this writing, over 11,000 people have reported to have encountered the same problems above, which isn’t something you want when you’re asking people to try your game out.

Have you managed to get into an Anthem game with a squad or randomly matched? What did you do to bypass the infinite loading glitch?

In addition to that, Nuketown is the new featured playlist in multiplayer, and will stay there until 10 a.m. PT Tuesday.

Got that? Good! Don’t forget, there’s a new Barbarians in-game event that has the KAP-45 pistol as one of its tier rewards.

In other Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 news, Activision is selling an old reticle which was available in Black Ops 1 for $2 in BO4!

Anthem Demo Connection Problems Not a Server Issue, Fans Clamoring for Demo Extension Due to Outage

If you’ve been frantically trying to log in to the Anthem VIP demo since it went live earlier today, then you’re part of a large group of gamers (including me) that  are stuck watching a screen that tries and tries to connect to servers but fails constantly but fails to do so.

We’re a few hours in, and sadly, things haven’t improved. BioWare ia aware of the Anthem demo connection problems though, and studio boss Casey Hudson has went on Twitter to verify that it’s not a server capacity issue, but something else entirely.

If you fail to read the subtweet, the official EA Help support Twitter mentions that login issues are now happening in ALL of EA’s games and services, which includes the Anthem demo.

As expected, the Anthem community is not happy with how things are going down for the Anthem VIP demo’s first day of availability. Over on the Anthem subreddit, fans are demanding that the Anthem VIP demo date be extended given the issues players have had connecting. While there’s no confirmation that we’ll get an extra day or two, a BioWare dev at least acknowledged that they want to fix the current issues first before they start talking about extending the current VIP demo.

Given that the Anthem VIP demo is exclusive to pre-order buyers and media, I shudder to think how this will all go down next week when the demo is open to everyone.

Have you been able to connect to Anthem? And do you think EA should issue an extra day or two due to the current outage?

Why Are Endless Games So Satisfying and So Popular?

The dominance of video games in popular culture has been clearly established in the modern world. Now surpassing even the profit of the film box office, video games have solidified as one of the forms of entertainment perhaps most indicative of our technological age. Of these, there are some experiences which quickly burn out, only to fade from our memories.

There are others, though, that stick with us, which offer seemingly endless entertainment, even when the systems themselves are apparently simple.

Why are these neverending games so popular, and which examples best reflect the society of today?

Many endless games find their inspiration in traditional forms of gaming. Cards, for example, can be used in a wide variety of games. Despite the relatively simple set of 52 classic playing cards from which we work, there are many players who derive near endless enjoyment from just one or two card game variants.

The appeal is here is not an endlessly expansive world of opportunities, but rather a base system which engages us in a way we continually find enjoyable. Today, even in the age of complex online MMORPGs, these systems ultimately reign supreme

While this means that a high level of complexity is not at all a necessity for continued engagement, more complicated systems can be used to help bridge the gap between appealing base systems and fresh content. MMORPGs like World of Warcraft are a strong example of this, as a bridge between the appeal of old and the capabilities of new.

The basic systems of Warcraft are one much like cards with added twists.

Some people enjoy playing cards, whereas others prefer the cycle of hunting, leveling up, and tackling increasingly difficult challenges. In this way, the enjoyment from the base levels of these systems might not hold up on the same level as cards, but ever-developing additional content alleviates this issue. This means the limitations can be overcome, and the overall experience is that much more enjoyable for it.

The other side of this is that there are components of both of these modern and traditional types of games which benefit from experience. For traditional games like cards, there is the skill part of the equation. A newer player and an experienced veteran might be playing on the same table, but a difference in experience means that they aren’t necessarily playing the same game.

For the MMO example, this still exists, though it also offers the benefit of character building. With each hour spent within a virtual world, a player character can become more powerful, reflecting both the growth of the player and the total experience of a time spent adventuring.

Endless experiences appeal to us because they represent our capacity as humans for infinite growth. Whether on a strictly skill-based level or holding a digital representation of this growth, endless games add another element to gaming which we value so much – that of progress.

Red Dead Online Update Today Includes Free Gold Bar Bonus, Gun Rush Lobby Improvements & More

Those busy playing the virtual life of a cowboy in the Red Dead Online beta, rejoice! Rockstar is giving players who log in this weekend (January 25 through January 27) a bonus of five Golden Bars which will be delivered by Tuesday, January 29.

The Red Dead Online update today, also includes Gun Rush matchmaking fixes, and there’s even a sneak peek of what’s to come in upcoming updates.

Gun Rush Feedback & Matchmaking Improvements

Following the launch of the new Gun Rush mode, we identified a few matchmaking issues, some of which we have addressed with short-term improvements and all of which we are working towards more permanent and proper fixes for in the longer term. The minor improvements should help generate fuller lobbies and we will add more fixes in upcoming title updates. Gun Rush is best experienced with as many competitors as possible, so if you had any issues with smaller lobbies around release, we strongly encourage you to give it another go this weekend as we are already regularly seeing much fuller matches on both PS4 and Xbox One.

For those who haven’t tried it yet, Gun Rush is a tooth and nail, Western style battle-royale fight to the death for up to 32 players that can be played either with Teams or as a Free For All. Players compete in an ever-shrinking battle zone with horses for quick transport (and associated risks). Skirmish for weapons ranging from Mauser Pistols to Repeating Shotguns to Fire Bottles and Dynamite Arrows – as well as for valuable, hard to obtain armor like the headshot-thwarting Ned Kelly Armor to help you survive to the end.

We also updated our official Feedback page to now include dedicated sections for Gun Rush. We of course want to know what you like, don’t like, suggestions for improvements and changes to this and other modes and types of gameplay – so please do keep it coming!

More to Come

Our teams are currently working on lots of fixes, changes and improvements to the game based on player feedback including the quality of life improvements that we detailed in our last status update: Proximity-Based Player BlipsParley Changes with quicker access to Feuding, Law and Bounty Improvements to discourage griefing while introducing a new Freeroam dynamic between bounty hunters and criminal rogues, plus Daily Challenges with gold nugget rewards and more. We are currently planning to have these and other improvements to the game included in a Title Update scheduled for release in the coming months – we’ll provide more information as we get closer to the date.

Are you enjoying Gun Rush so far? Don’t forget to log in today to get your free gift!

Here’s the Complete Anthem Map Pieced Together

Just last week, we posted our first look at the Anthem map, though it wasn’t the entire thing. Well, now, we have the complete Anthem map, which was pieced together by Reddit user SkrillRKnight.

Full disclosure though, BioWare has not mentioned if there are other areas, or how vertical the map is given that javelins can fly and submerge themselves underwater to traverse new areas as we can plainly see in some of the gameplay.

I don’t want to judge given we don’t even know the proportion of the arrow to actual player, but so far, it doesn’t look that big, no? Of course, if its teeming with wildlife and there are tons of activities to do in the game’s open world, the size itself shouldn’t matter, right?

Are you OK with the Anthem map so far or you think it’s a tad too small? Do you think BioWare will add new playable areas post-launch? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Sony Sending Out PlayStation 2018 Recap Emails With 3 Free Themes and Here’s What They Look Like

Christmas might be over, but Sony is still in a giving mood! The publisher is now sending emails that rounds up your PlayStation 2018 recap of how many games you played, hours played, and the Trophies you earned! What’s even more exciting is, this email has a code for PS4 free themes!

I’ve received the email myself. and here’s what you’ll see (stats will be different, of course):

Note that the themes Sony is giving away are all dynamic PS4 themes, and not static. Here’s what each looks like:

Year End Sketch Theme:

Year End Map Theme

Year End City Theme

Out of the lot, I’d say my favorite is the Sketch one given it’s super minimal, and drawing noise effect has a rather soothing effect on me. The map one will no doubt remind people of Uncharted which might be Sony’s entire point.

Check your inbox, Spam folders, people! Sony is giving away free stuff!

Anthem Store Items First Look, BioWare Says These Aren’t Final Pricing and Will Balance It Almost Daily

In case you didn’t know, Anthem will have its own in-game currency system called “Coins,” which will be available in the VIP demo set to become playable tomorrow. If you’re curious how the Anthem store looks like, and what people can get from it, wonder no more.

Below, we see our first look at the Anthem store items, with the focus primarily set on cosmetics. There are different armor packs for what I presume will be for different shaders and materials for javelins, and emotes as well. Players will be able to buy these using the Coins or Shards.

BioWare has come out and touched on the Anthem store items, and has said that these aren’t the final prices. Here’s what BioWare Senior Systems Designer Chris Schimdt had to say about it:

Hey there! One thing to keep in mind is these don’t represent final, stamped for all of eternity pricing. We are iterating on our economy design and balance almost daily, so you’re seeing a snapshot of one iteration. This is why we tend to not discuss things like pricing, because it’s one of those iterative things that’s sure to change frequently right up until the day you play the game.

Again, Anthem store prices aren’t final, and will be balanced almost daily. And before anyone asks, yes, BioWare still intends to keep microtransactions in the game tied to cosmetics only.

Stay tuned for more Anthem coverage here on MP1st! Bookmark our Anthem game hub now so you won’t miss a thing.

Anthem Will Only Have 3 Stronghold Missions Available at Launch With One Playable in the Demo

Earlier today, BioWare showed off the Anthem VIP demo by doing a livestream on IGN. While playing BioWare Producer Scylla Costa mentioned that there’s going to be three Stronghold missions available in Anthem at launch.

Stronghold missions are team-based quests in Anthem that require teamwork, and will net the players excellent rewards. Think of them as the same as souped up version of Destiny’s Strikes, or a shorter version of Raids. According to Costa, the three Anthem Stronghold missions will be available once the main story is completed, and is a big part of Anthem’s endgame (it’s around the 23:30 mark in the video).

Over on Twitter, Lead Producer Michael Gamble also confirmed that there will be three Anthem Stronghold missions available at launch, with more presumably added post-release.

Before anyone panics, Strongholds can be replayable, and will have multiple difficulty settings, and from what we’ve seen so far, these quests will take a long time, with the latest gameplay of it taking 40 minutes, and they didn’t even finish it.

For those curious how it plays, BioWare has confirmed that there will be one Anthem Stronghold mission available in the VIP demo set to launch tomorrow.

Are you OK with this number? is it too few? Or are you confident BioWare will add more Stronghold missions consistently post-launch?

PlanetSide Arena New Release Date, Closed Beta and Founders Season Announced

Announced just last month, PlanetSide Arena is Daybreak Games’ answer to the battle royale craze and was originally set to launch in January 2019. Well, that isn’t happening now. In a new announcement today, the studio announced the PlanetSide Arena new release date, and it’s on March 26, 2019!

While the actual release date might have been pushed back, players will still be able to experience PlanetSide Arena this month as Daybreak announced that the game’s closed beta will start next week on January 30.

Closed Beta will give us invaluable information and insight into how our systems, servers, databases, and backend infrastructure work together. But more importantly, it’s also a crucial touchpoint for your feedback, so we can learn just how fun and satisfying the core gameplay experience is for all of you. This first Beta will push our hardware and new server infrastructure to new limits and we’re sure to run into issues – lag, bugs, other performance hiccups – so please bear with us. Our systems and servers are built to accommodate a massive number of players, and putting them through their paces is necessary so we can net the information we need to deliver a quality game that performs smoothly at launch.

Finally, the studio also announced the Founders Season, which will begin February 20, 2019, and will feature an exclusive Battle Pass with items obtainable only via during the season.

Anthem Seasonal Events Confirmed, Microtransactions Still Planned to Be Cosmetics Only

With Anthem entering the shared world shooter experience that was made popular by games like Destiny, and The Division, one of the main selling points here is that these titles are constantly evolving, and are frequently updated either for content, game balance, or just to add an event or two to keep players engaged.

For those hoping to see Anthem seasonal events like a Halloween event, and a Christmas one during the holidays, BioWare just confirmed the game will have these sort of stuff post-launch! In an interview, Lead Producer Mike Gamble confirmed this, and even compared it to Blizzard’s Overwatch.

So kind of a silly question here: my favorite thing in these kinds of games is seasonal events–Halloween events, Christmas events–are you planning on having those kinds of things in Anthem?

MG: Definitely. I love that stuff too, that’s one of the reasons I’m still playing Overwatch so many years out is because of the events and the effort that they put into those.

In the same interview, Gamble was asked about Anthem’s microtransactions, and whether anything changed regarding its direction or if it’s still cosmetics only.

So then I guess the question is–in a game like this, you [usually] have to monetize it usually to keep it sustainable. What’s the plan there, is it cosmetics only…?

MGIt’s still cosmetics, yes. We feel that if people are interested in playing the game, that they’ll want to express themselves through cosmetics, and that there’s enough there in the cosmetic system, and enough customization for them to really dig into it.

Note that BioWare has confirmed that all story-related DLC will be free, which might, and should, further entice the Anthem player base to spring for cosmetics with real world money.

In other Anthem news, the VIP demo is starting tomorrow, and if you’re a part of it, go check out how to download the client, as well as the Friends Pass right here.

BioWare Asking for Anthem Audio Feedback, Demo Won’t Contain Final Polish or Optimizations

With the Anthem VIP demo set to kick off in less than 24 hours, BioWare is readying the ship, and is seeking feedback from the community.

Over on Reddit, BioWare Director of Audio Jeremie Voillot has posted a message asking the community for Anthem audio feedback, and confirms that the demo won’t include optimizations or the “final polish pass” gamers will see from the launch day build.

Anthem Weekends Audio Feedback Thread
by inAnthemTheGame

Hey fellow Freelancers! The demo is going to go live soon (stoked!), myself and the audio team are looking for feedback. We welcome any positive or constructive feedback from all of you!

The demo doesn’t contain our final polish pass or optimizations, but we are still hard at work on the numerous future patches that are coming trying to fine tune your audio experience.

Our goal was the deliver the most visceral, dynamic and responsive audio experience for our fans. We firmly believe iteration is the key to quality, so please tell us about your experience, and how we can make it even better!

Strong alone, stronger together!

I’ve played betas and demos before, but this might be the first time that a studio has requested feedback for the game’s audio, which is refreshing, to be honest.

Battlefield V Known Issues List Is Getting a “Major Overhaul”

It’s no secret that Battlefield V is still suffering from some issues both from a technical standpoint, and from a gameplay-side as well. For those vigilant Battlefield V fans, they might have noticed that DICE has basically not updated the Battlefield 5 known issues list in the game’s official subreddit, and that’s going to change.

Posting a new message to the community, Battlefield V Global Community Manager Dan Mitre has announced that they are setting up internal processes that will allow the studio to maintain a highly accurate list with frequent updates. Once this is “locked down,” the Battlefield 5 known issues list will receive a “full overhaul.”

The process might look something like this:

  1. Identify Issues – Pulling from all sources to determine all outstanding game issues, including and not limited to social channels, customer support teams, direct from player, in-game data, internal bug trackers, community maintained bug trackers, etc.
  2. Define Severity – Determine severity of each issue based on amount of players affected and impact to systems (economy, retention, game experience, etc.).
  3. Bi-Daily Syncs – Internal teams to meet frequently to circle on latest issues, categorize by priority, determine public acknowledgement, and set fix timelines.

Anthem Social Hub Called Launch Bay, Will Allow Up to 16 People

While BioWare has talked about and showed off Fort Tarsis for Anthem as the game’s “hub” where quests are snatched up, and the story can be moved forward, some might assume that it’ll work like the Tower in Destiny where you could interact with other online players, which isn’t the case.

But those looking forward to an Anthem social hub, don’t fret! BioWare has something in mind, and here’s our early look at the “Launch Bay,” where players can hang out, dance with their emotes, grab a new contract, and more! We get our first look at it via Lead Producer Michael Gamble.

For those curious, the Anthem Launch Bay will have up to 16 players in one instance, though the feature won’t be available in the demo.

What’s interesting here is, this Anthem social hub wasn’t something the studio was planning on doing, but was implemented due to community feedback. This was revealed by BioWare Development Manager Camden Eagar over on Reddit who shared that this was a reaction to “community feedback.”

I have to admit, this is damn impressive that BioWare has seemingly added a feature in the game that was requested by the community even before the game launched, and not patched in post-launch.

In other Anthem news, don’t forget that the VIP demo pre-load is now live, and you can check out the download links here. BioWare has also outlined how the demo is different from the launch build, which you ought to give a read as well.

Stay tuned to MP1st for the most comprehensive Anthem coverage leading up to the February 22 release date.
