Rumor: The Witcher’s Geralt to Be a Playable Character in Soulcalibur IV

Just the other day, Marcin Momot, the Community Lead for CD Projekt RED — the studio behind the revered The Witcher franchise — announced that game protagonist Geralt of Rivia was set to appear in one of the year’s upcoming games.

What game could it be?? Well, according to LetsPlayVideogames, it’s none other than Bandai Namco’s Soulcalibur IV! The site states anonymous sources contacted them “weeks ago” about the info, and while they found the source legitimate, further evidence required for publication proved difficult until the tweet above went live.

If true, this does make sense given Bandai Namco distributed The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in Europe, Australia and New Zealand, so there’s a familiarity there. And if you think about it, Geralt uses a sword, which is a perfect fit for the weapons-based fighting game.

We’ve reached out to Bandai Namco to ask for a statement, and will update the post if and when we get a reply. In the meantime, treat this one as a rumor for now, but one that’s very exciting if true.

Rumor: PS5 Devkits Sent Out to Third-Party Developers Earlier This Year

While the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are still getting a lot of fantastic games, some gamers might already be looking forward to the next generation of consoles. Given how far out we are in both consoles’ lifecycles, it’s normal for some people to get excited for what next-gen gaming has in store for us — yep, that means the PS5 and whatever Microsoft has planned for next-gen!

Over on Twitter, reliable leaker Marcus Sellars (the same dude who leaked the existence of Black Ops 4), tweeted a rather interesting message that PS5 dev (development) kits went out early this year to third-party developers.

Obviously, there’s no way Sony or third-party studios like EA and Activision would acknowledge anything like this, but given how long games take in terms of development, I’d be surprised if devs didn’t have some sort of rough dev kit for the PS5 or the Xbox Two (XboxNext?).

Given the nature of the story, treat this one as a rumor, but an interesting one at that.

Do you think it’s time for Sony to announce the PS5? When would you want to see it released?

Report: Battlefield 2018 Info Leak Mentions Factions, Classes, Gun Attachments & More

With the can of Battlefield 2018 info now pried open, it seems more and more stuff about the game is being known by the day. Well, we’re here once again to dive into a fresh plate of BF 2018 info leaks!

YouTuber Drakesden posted a lengthy video wherein he allegedly spills quite a lot of Battlefield 2018 news. Now, we ordinarily don’t report on every purported leak, but this one has been  vouched for by AlmightyDaq, who himself, leaked a lot of info about Battlefield 1 that came out to be true.

Now, before we proceed, bear in mind that these are all not verified. There’s a chance that the info below is someone who wants to be internet-famous, or just got his facts wrong. Given the game is still in active development, there’s a lot that can change from now up to the October 2018 release date EA targets for the Battlefield franchise.

Got that disclaimer out of the way? Good. Here we go.

There will reportedly be seven base game factions:

  • Great Britain
  • United States
  • Free French Forces
  • Third Reich
  • Kingdom of Italy
  • USSR
  • Imperial Japan

The base game will come with 10 base maps (which is logical given past entries have shipped with the same), with more maps being added post-launch.

EA is allegedly once again selling DLC via Battlefield Premium, so don’t expect anything to change regarding that.

Battlefield 2018 is an “evolutionary” take on BF1, and it uses the same game engine as BF1 and Star Wars Battlefront II.

Here’s a big one: random bullet deviation is said to be gone in Battlefield 2018, which means skill will play a greater role.

Removal of random bullet deviation, skill plays a greater role. Not familiar with RBD? Here’s what the Urban Dictionary says about it:

A bullshit method that’s being used in more and more games that are out today. Rather than, gasp, having the bullets go where the crosshair is, game developers somehow think it’s better that the bullets follow a completely random patternaround the crosshair instead of INSIDE the crosshair. Since the bullets don’t actually go where there supposed to, it means that most firefights you get into mean zero skill, all luck. You might think shooting in small bursts that it would defeat this, but it actually ensues your death much quicker over a sprayer. Moving actually multiplies the deviation tenfold, making it near impossible to squeeze an accurate shot unless you’re playing as a sniper.

Gun variants not returning, so don’t expect the same gun to have different kinds that behave differently like in BF1.

The main reason why variants are said to not be returning is due to the return of gun attachments (yay!) Expect scopes, suppressors, and whatever stuff is appropriate for the era.

Regarding classes, it’ll be the same four DICE has seemingly stuck to all these years.

  • Assault  (Medic) – automatic weapons,
  • Support (Ammo dude) LMGs
  • Recon (sniper) bolt-action rifles
  • Engineer (Vehicle dude) SMGs, rocket launchers, repair tool, etc.

All kit weapons (meaning any class can use ’em) like semi-auto rifles will be making a return.

Another few things returing are Elite classes, and Behemoths.

Here’s a big one: Battlefield 2018 will allegedly introduce player model cosmetics (skins), and what’s more, players will be able to switch faction variants that will have a change of clothes, head/footwear and camo (different skins means different appearance combos).

Microtransactions will be cosmetics mostly — as we’ve reported on before.

Vehicles play will be similar to BF4 and BF3, which is a positive in my book. It’ll entail more skillful operation, will have tanks, transport tanks, tank destroyers, bombers, etc.

The fan-fave Operations will be returning, while Battlefield 1’s competitive mode Incursions will be available for BF 2018 at launch.

Well, there you have it! You can watch all the things listed above in the video below.

Again, I want to stress that none of the info listed here have been confirmed, and as such, should be treated with a big bag of salt.

In any case, if these do pan out, then add another YouTuber to the list of credible Battlefield sources.

Are you liking what you’ve read so far? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Report: More Fortnite Jetpack Details: Fuel, Hover Mode & Limited Time Mode

Thanks to dataminers diving deep into the recent 3.1.0 update, we now have more information about the Fortnite jetpack, including the fact that it uses fuel, has a hover mode, and there will be a Limited Time Mode featuring it.

A “last-minute design issue” caused the Fortnite jetpack to be delayed, with the hunting rifle taking its place. However, with the 3.1.0 update, Epic Games provided more information on the jetpack, and what it could potentially do in-game.

According to Storm Shield One, who has datamined the files and reported his findings on Twitter, the Fortnite jetpack will have fuel, which will either regenerate over time, or only regenerate when the player is holding a certain item.

Storm Shield One also claims that there will be a hover mode, which will presumably allow players to stay in place, making it easier to shoot.

As for the Limited Time Mode featuring the Fortnite jetpack, it’s apparently going to be called “Take To The Skies.” It’s unclear what exactly this LTM will involve, but it’s sure to be fun, if all players can access the jetpack!

In other Fortnite news, it has become the most watched and most streamed game on Twitch, the Flippin’ Sexy emote is driving players wild, and a future update will bridge the Battle Royale and Save the World controls.

Fortnite Teams of 20 Is the Next Limited Time Mode

Boot up Fortnite, and you’ll get a glimpse at the new Fortnite Teams of 20 Limited Time Mode. Like the 50v50 game type that players have previously experienced, the Teams of 20 mode promises bigger teams and bigger battles. As you probably gathered, Fortnite Teams of 20 splits players into five teams of 20, who fight until only team is left standing.

Expect Fortnite Teams of 20 to be similar to 50v50, only with fewer friendly players, and a lot more enemies. Stick together, stay on your toes, and you should be able to survive!

As with previous Limited Time Modes, you can expect Fortnite Teams of 20 to be available for a week or so.

Here’s what the menu notification teaser looks like in-game:

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Logo Leaked by NBA Star James Harden, Is Not What You’re Expecting

Given the numerous leaks we’ve had linking this year’s Call of Duty title to be “Black Ops 4,” it’s almost a given that Treyarch’s still-unannounced game is indeed the next chapter in the Black Ops saga.

Well, if there’s any doubt then, you might want to erase that now. During last night’s Houston Rockets vs. Oklahoma Thunder NBA game, NBA superstar and MVP candidate James Harden showed up at the game wearing a cap with an interesting logo. Check it out for yourself below.

For reference, here’s the logo for Black Ops 3:

What’s interesting (and odd) here is that it seems Treyarch is styling the “4” as “IIII” instead of the correct roman numeral writing of “IV.”

And in case you’re thinking this is for some other game, promotion or James Harden just likes hates with weird logos, a source confirmed to Kotaku that the logo we see on the cap is indeed the logo for Black Ops IIII.

There’s no yet on what Harden’s involvement with the game is, but if I wouldn’t be surprised to see him appear as a character in the game, or in a TV commercial.

What are your thoughts on the Black Ops IIII logo so far? Should we refer to it as Black Ops 4, Black Ops IV or just go with Treyarch’s nuttiness and go with Black Ops IIII?

Report: Nintendo Switch Diablo III Version Actually in Development

Here’s an odd turn of events: just a few days ago, Blizzard tweeted a quick clip of the Diablo demon light being “switch” off; this was enough to throw everyone into a tizzy and work out this meant that Diablo would be coming to the Nintendo Switch (switch going off, etc.).  Check out the tweet below.

Now, Blizzard then issued a statement stating that “This tweet was meant to be a fun engagement piece. We do not have any plans to announce Diablo for Switch,” which kind of kills any hype, right? Well, apparently, it really is in development.

According to Eurogamer’s sources, the Diablo III Nintendo Switch version is currently “in production.” The same sources couldn’t confirm whether the Reaper of Souls and Rise of the Necromancer expansions would be included, but given it’s been out for ages, it’s highly likely that they’d be.

Additionally, the reveal of the Diablo III Switch version is said to be “several months off.” While Blizzard is used to teasing games, announcements and such, Nintendo isn’t, and that might have been the snag that caused Blizzard to issue a statement refuting the game coming to the Switch.

It’s all a bit hazy now, but if I had to hazard a guess, Diablo III most likely is headed to the Switch, and Blizzard’s social media people might have jumped the gun in terms of teasing about it. There’s no logical reason why we’d even see a tweet like the one above unless there’s something to it, right?

Would you even buy Diablo III on the Nintendo Switch? While I’ve played Diablo III extensively, I admit, the idea of playing it on the road is an enticing prospect.

Fortnite Becomes the Most Watched and Most Streamed Game on Twitch

I often have a Fortnite Twitch stream open while working. The game isn’t just great fun to play, it’s also great fun to watch. This explains why Fortnite has quickly risen to being one of the most popular games to stream on the Twitch platform.

According to SullyGnome, which monitors different games and their viewerships, over the past 14 days, Fortnite has been the most streamed and most watched game on Twitch. Even League of Legends and PUBG were beaten by Epic Games’ epic game.

Fortnite Twitch stream

Fortnite‘s main competitor in the battle royale space, PUBG, is seeing its audience beginning to decline, while Fortnite‘s keeps on rising:

Are you one of the many streamers who enjoys playing Fortnite? Or do you prefer to watch Fortnite being streamed? Or is the whole Fortnite craze going over your head? Let us know!

In other Fortnite news, the double pump strategy has returned, Josh Hart got some custom Fortnite shoes, and this custom hoverboard track looks incredible.
