Monster Hunter: World Sales Figures Show Huge Success, Smashing Previous Records

Monster Hunter: World has launched on PS4 and Xbox One, and the general consensus is that it’s a great game. We gave it a very high score in our review, and other outlets are singing its praises, also.

However, not all great games sell well. Some titles can release at a bad time, fail due to poor marketing, or go ignored for a variety of other reasons. Happily, Monster Hunter: World does not appear to be one of those games.

Since its January 26 launch, Monster Hunter: World has shipped over five million units. According to Capcom, that’s more units shipped in the first three days of launch, than any other game in the franchise. This includes digital downloads.

Taking a look at the UK charts, we see Monster Hunter: World sitting at the top, following by Dragon Ball FighterZ:

1 – Monster Hunter: World

2 – Dragon Ball Fighterz

3 – Call of Duty: WWII

4 – Fifa 18

5 – Grand Theft Auto V

6 – Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

7 – The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

8 – PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds

9 – Rocket League: Collectors Edition

10 – The Inpatient

11 – Assassin’s Creed Origins

12 – Pokemon Crystal Version

13 – Gran Turismo: Sport

14 – Crash Bandicoot N.SANE Trilogy

15 – Forza Horizon 3

16 – Super Mario Odyssey

17 – Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6: Siege

18 – The Sims 4

19 – Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2

20 – Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare

Monster Hunter: World is expected to launch on PC this spring. Keep on holding on!

In other Monster Hunter: World news, reviews for the game are averaging 90, the day one update is live, and here’s all the Achievements and Trophies players can earn.

Report: PS4 Users Are Downloading Monster Hunter: World for Free (Update)

Update:

The OzBargain listing has been marked as “Expired.” Congratulations to the lucky ones who got a free game! (Assuming you weren’t all lying!)

Original Story:

It seems like some PS4 users are having a very happy Monday, nabbing free copies of Monster Hunter: World via a multi-use voucher code.

The code has been posted on OzBargain, where it has received many comments verifying that it works, in addition to over 50 upvotes.

Thanks, it worked. – Hayness

Huh, I thought this might just be the digital deluxe upgrade but it’s actually the full game. Already bought it on launch day but it’s insane that this is not a one use code. – pakon29

its working for me and im downloading it now. But i doubt ill be able to keep it since it seems like a big glitch in the system. – peter369

Fingers crossed they don’t remove it! Thanks op, legend! – Shads

What a deal! Thanks OP worked a treat. I wasn’t sure if I had to be on the PlayStation itself to purchase using a coupon. I ended up just using my computers web browser via the PS Store and worked (had to select prepaid card – then pasted the voucher). – PR0r

According to the post, the code is for US accounts, and grants the Digital Deluxe version of the game.

However, it’s not been a total success, as many of the more recent comments are reporting error messages, and no free game.

It’s possible that the code was working, but has since been disabled. It’s also possible that this is a group trolling effort.

If you missed our Monster Hunter: World review, get caught up by reading it here. (Spoilers: We think it’s a fantastic game!)

In other Monster Hunter: World news, reviews for the game are averaging 90, the day one update is live, and here’s all the Achievements and Trophies players can earn.

Monster Hunter World Review – Beast Mode

While the Monster Hunter franchise has been alive and kicking for the better part of a decade now, it’s mostly been seen as a “Japanese” gaming franchise. Sure, past iterations made its way to the PlayStation Portable and the Wii, but for the most part, it went under the radar of core Western games…at least until now.

Enter: Monster Hunter World. Be it by marketing it correctly or just tugging at the right strings, Capcom’s latest Monster Hunter game isn’t just out for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One (soon on PC, too), but what’s more, it’s even being accepted warmly so far — at least based on the beta that happened.

There’s a lot (and I mean a lot) to take in when it comes to Monster Hunter World, so let’s get right to it!

Throwing You Into the Deep End of the Pool With Floaties

For better or for worse, Monster Hunter World has all of the franchise’s intricacies, stat crunching, and item-heavy gameplay. Sure, you’ll (kind of) be eased into everything with mini tutorials and hint boxes, but don’t expect too much hand-holding. If you want to learn something, the best way to understand it is with the best teacher: experience. I mean actual experiencing it yourself rather than XP. I’ve only played one Monster Hunter game ever (and not even that much), and I was half-lost when I first started out. By that, I meant, I was a bit overwhelmed with all the items, resources, numbers, stats and more all thrown at your face. The good thing is, you can choose to ignore all that initially, and just grab a weapon, and go on your merry way in hunting monsters.

Of course, one way or the other, you will need to go back to checking your resources, and so on, but you’ll survive playing the first few missions on just having fun, learning the ropes, and getting familiar with the game’s controls, economy and more.

In short: don’t fret if this is your first time with the franchise. It seems Capcom anticipated this, and have readied a bunch of newbie-friendly mini tutorials for almost everything — especially for the menus and what to do.

You’ll start the game creating your character or going with the pre-made presets, and do the same for your Palico (feline companion). Once you’re past that, then it’s off to the races! You’ll be thrust into a short segment where you’re introduced to the movement controls, and given a short exposition on who you are, what are you doing there, and why the hell do you want to hunt down monsters.

Weapon Lord

Possibly the biggest thing you’ll ever have to decide on in World is what weapon you’ll be wielding. While you can change your weapon of choice at anytime you’re in camp, or in the main base, you still have to choose a “main” weapon to start the game off with. Don’t expect each weapon to be re-skins or have minimal differences, either. This isn’t your typical action game where your sword’s main difference with an ax is the amount of damage it does or its reach, nope. In Monster Hunter World, weapons dictate the entire flow of combat, and even the actual gameplay. Yes, this is true and not an exaggeration. Simply put: the weapons themselves change the entire flow of gameplay; and this is where the complexity of the game lies.

Considering you’ll be spending 85-90 percent of your time hunting monsters (hence, the title), you’ll want the weapons that fit your play style the most. There are 14 weapons in World, and all are unlocked right from the start. However, each weapon can be upgraded, and there’s new versions of it to craft, elemental damage to consider, extra weapon abilities and so on. These 14 weapons range from bigass swords (think: Cloud’s Buster Sword in Final Fantasy VII), hammers, axes, hybrid weapons, and even guns!

Each one of the weapons have their own identity. and will affect your movement speed, stamina consumption, damage, defense and more. It’s worth the time experimenting with each weapon type in the Training Area to get a feel of what suits you best. While there are weapons that more beginner-friendly than the rest (guns, sword and shield), there’s no “ultimate” weapon. It all depends on how you want to play. Are you more of a poke and evade kind of player? Then you might want to use the sword and shield combo; maybe you prefer attacking from a distance? Go the gun route or use the bow. What if you’re more the strategic type that wants heavy damage when an opening arises? Then go use the Buster Sword or the hammer.

While weapons might be the main gameplay changer in World, there’s a lot more to take in, which we’ll talk about in a bit.

Resources, Stats, Crafting and the Kitchen Sink

While weapons might be the main thing that dictates the fun factor of Monster Hunter World, there’s a whole other layer of complexity piled on to it with the resource collecting, crafting, armor and weapon upgrades and more.

There’s money to be earned in everything you do that funds your item creation (no microtransactions here, thankfully!). In addition to money, there are resources to collect on the field, monster carcasses to loot which will net you items that you can use to craft better weapons, armors and so on. It’s a never ending cycle though with a ton of nuances that make it sound a lot more complicated than it seems to be on the surface. Adding to the weapon and armor upgrades are elemental damage buffs and weaknesses that also play a hand in how you tackle each monster or mission you’re tasked with.

If this all sounds daunting to you, I don’t blame you one bit. It is a little bit overwhelming since the game just pumps you with herbs, bones, specific plants for crafting ammo, and lots more. Thankfully, you can play the game and learn these things bit by bit, and to be fair, the game does a good job of slowly easing you in when it comes to needing to craft items.

Equipping weapons and armors are a tad easier given you can see the numerical value of each (higher it is, the better), though be sure to keep an eye out for the elemental damage defense as well.

Not Your Typical Action Game

If you’re planning to buy Monster Hunter World and expecting something like God of War or Devil May Cry’s combat, then I’ll stop you right there. It’s as far from those two as it can be. World isn’t your typical action game when it comes to pacing, combat, and even level design. There’s no leveling up system to make your character jump higher (though there are armor mods that do this), learn new moves, have super abilities and more. Sure, there is some kind of leveling up per se, but it’s usually tied into your weapons and armors, and even Palicos, more than your character.

As for missions, you’ll usually be in timed quests for the story missions (50 minutes for each), though you can also hop into “Expeditions” that will let you roam the game world freely. In it, you can tackle NPC missions, catch pets, hunt for resources, go fishing and more. There’s a ton of distraction in Monster Hunter World, but it’s the good kind.

You might have noticed that we’ve gone this far in the review and I haven’t even mentioned the story. There’s a reason for that, and being frank, it’s because it’s not that important nor memorable. Sure, during the game, the commander will task us to protect a research team, find a new camp, etc., we’re given reasons to hunt monsters, but it’s not really needed. Oh, sure, we’re gearing up to take down that elder dragon thing, but the story itself isn’t anything groundbreaking or new, though that speaks volumes about the gameplay that it doesn’t even need to be.

We Be Beastin’

Monster Hunter World is an enjoyable paradox in of itself. The graphics and audio work aren’t impressive. It doesn’t introduce anything revolutionary to the action genre, nor does it have a compelling story. But here’s the thing: even without all of those, the game is just FUN! Not even fun, but addicting. There’s this “one more mission” hook to it that propels you to tackle on one more side mission (or main one), just to see what kind of enemy you’ll be up, and of course, slaying the beast to get some sweet loot.

I haven’t even touched on the awesome monster designs, the living, breathing open world that lets you do a ton of things, or even the multiplayer that lets you take on monsters head on with four players (which some might argue is the best part of the game). It would take more than twice the amount of words you’ve read now to go on in detail about the stuff I mentioned just now, and I gather, those are things players will want to experience themselves.

If you like going up against bosses in games, and find that thrilling, then think of Monster Hunter World as Boss Fight: The Game. It’s one compelling boss fight after another, that’s sprinkled in with loot, crafting, and other RPG nuances that make the journey exciting even after the numerous missions. Monster Hunter World is one monster you’ll want to take home and nurture.

Score: 9.5/10

Pros:

  • Fantastic gameplay loop of explore, hunt, kill, collect and craft
  • Monster design and fights are super unique
  • Complex and deep combat system
  • Has that “one more mission” addictive quality to its gameplay

Cons:

  • Graphics and audio work might not wow you
  • Overwhelming amount of stats, resources right from the start
  • Some people might want a deeper story to slay monsters (I don’t)

SOS Battle Royale Gameplay Proves a Lone Wolf Can Be Deadly

SOS is a game that encourages teamwork and communication. Forming an alliance is often the best way to find loot and ultimately win. However, a lone wolf can be just as effective, as proven in the video above.

How it works is simple: Find a hidden relic, signal for extraction, and escape on the chopper. How to do it is hard: You’ll have to use your personality to build alliances, out-scheme opponents, and entertain the audience. Oh, not to mention avoid hordes of bloodthirsty monsters.

If you’re lucky enough to survive, you’ll be greeted with fame and fortune. And more importantly, you’ll still be alive.

KEY FEATURES:

Star Wars Battlefront II‘s design director is one of the more vocal members of the EA DICE development team. Dennis Brannvall consistently responds to player questions through Twitter, often revealing new information being shared for the first time. Report: Rumored PS Plus February 2018 Lineup Is False, Fake Image Creator Comes Forward

I’ve got some bad news for those PS Plus subscribers who were looking forward to the February 2018 lineup of games. It seems like the image which was doing rounds on Reddit, and also attracted the attention of other media outlets, is actually fake.

Reddit user Phoenix_Gaming1 claims he created the image as “a joke on Facebook.” It was then taken by a follower and posted on Reddit, where things got out of control.

Hi my name is George Awad I’m the creator of the image thats been going around like wildfire and to prove it I’ll provide this image where I moved a few thing around. I made this as a joke on facebook and someone put this on reddit and it spred like wildfire.

The choice of games was down to the upcoming release schedule:

LucasBlade is 100% correct “Yeah I’m wondering about this too, maybe because Dark Souls Remastered comes out in May and Far Cry 5 in March”

The image creator also explained why he came forward:

I only told the truth because I saw someone say they were going to sell their copy of dark Souls 2 and get it again for free in February that’s when I realized this had blown out of proportion and had gone to far.

As the PS Plus February 2018 lineup has yet to be confirmed by Sony, there’s a chance that these games could be featured. It’s also possible that Phoenix_Gaming1 is lying, as his “evidence” could have been made after the leak. Doubtful, but it’s a possibility, and that’s why this article is marked as “Report.”

Sad times for those who got excited over nothing. Here’s hoping the real lineup is just as good!

Battlefield 1 Apocalypse DLC Weapons List Found in CTE Files (Update)

Update:

It seems this “new” list is a fake! Reddit user Strikaaa said it’s not in the files.

I extracted the files and couldn’t find any additional guns, just the six that I also found last week (webley, chauchatsmg, enfield, bsahowell, mg0818, ross).

This is either a bamboozle or whoever posted this on the BF forums used modified scripts (but I doubt that). Let’s wait for /u/HauptmannHK for confirmation.

Once we hear more details, we’ll let our readers know.

Original Story:

While we already reported on some of the weapons set to come in Battlefield 1’s final expansion called “Apocalypse,” we don’t know the whole list just yet — at least, until now. Over on Reddit, user TCOLH posted what seems to be Apocalypse files from the current CTE (Community Test Environment).

Reddit user TheKey32 even linked some of the weapon names found in the list to their real world counterparts.

In case you didn’t know, we also posted a Battlefield 1 Apocalypse DLC weapons list from a recent data mine, which you can read about here.

In other Battlefield 1 news, the big January update, which will bring in the second half of the Turning Tides expansion content, will row its way out next week! Here’s when the game will go down for maintenance.

Ubisoft Gaming Assistant “Sam” Announced by the Company

Ubisoft has announced something head-turning; a digital gaming assistant called “Sam,” and it’ll help players gain access to loads of information about Ubisoft and the company’s games.

Sam is like Google Assistant or Siri, where it’ll utilize a technique known as natural language processing to create life-like conversations with users as they ask questions about games and tips for beating a level, as well as telling Sam to show them the next trailer for the latest Assassin’s Creed.

However, unlike Google Assistant or Siri, Sam is not a novelty assistant meant to be a fancy kitchen timer. Sam can analyze your match history in games like Rainbow Six Siege and provide players with community video tips based on what it believes you need to improve on.

Stephanie Perotti who is the vice president of online services says that Sam will make it easier for players to locate the information they’d like to know so that they can spend more time playing games and less time surfing the web.

With Sam, our ambition is to create an innovative and helpful service for players, one that knows them and helps push them get more out of their gaming experience. Sam provides a more personalized experience for our fans and delivers them what they need faster, so they can spend less time searching and more time playing.

If you’re interested in using Sam, you can download the Ubisoft Club mobile app on Google Play and App Store and participate in the open beta. With that said, Sam is available only in English and just in Canada with plans to expand Sam into other regions in the coming months.

Rainbow Six Siege Standard Edition to Remain $40, Ubisoft Attempts to Calm Community

Yesterday’s double whammy of controversial upcoming Rainbow Six Siege changes received an unsurprisingly negative response from the community. The combination of a price hike and the introduction of loot boxes was quickly called out by players, forcing Ubisoft to rethink its approach.

Well, in just a single day, Ubisoft has confirmed that the Rainbow Six Siege Standard Edition will now remain at $40, which should help encourage more newcomers to pick up the game. In addition to this, current players will be receiving a skin, and Ubisoft will be rethinking the Starter Edition, too.

These changes were shared on the Rainbow Six Siege subreddit. You can read the full post below.

Our passionate and dedicated fans are the reason why Rainbow Six Siege is a success, especially the ones who have been with us from Day 1. Following yesterday’s announcement, we have seen the frustration from our current players rise to the top of the discussion. Below you will find our next steps for addressing these concerns.

  • For our current players, any of you that play an online match between now and March 6th will receive the upcoming Ash Sidewinder Elite skin for free. The Ash Sidewinder Elite will be automatically granted to your inventory at the launch of Year 3 Season 1.
  • For our newcomers and those of you concerned about introducing your friends to the game, we will be keeping the Standard Edition in the store at the current price.
  • For those of you who have raised concerns over the Starter Edition when it comes to acquiring Operators, we will be sharing more information about our next steps during the Six Invitational. We recognize that this has been a point of frustration for new players, as well as existing players bringing their friends into the game, and have been working on how to make this process more fluid.

The Rainbow Six Siege team has always incorporated player feedback into the game and the direction of the design. Your voice is incredibly important to us and we are monitoring your feedback closely on all aspects of this announcement. Any future updates will be posted here.

Some quick work by the community there!

Xbox Players Blame Lack of Betas for Monster Hunter: World Multiplayer Issues (Update)

Update:

PS4 players are also reporting similar problems. However, the Monster Hunter Twitter account has yet to acknowledge this.

Original Story:

It’s no secret that Xbox players received the short end of the stick when it came to Monster Hunter: World beta participation. In fact, those on Microsoft consoles didn’t get any opportunities to try out the game before launch. Over on PS4, the game held three betas, giving Sony system owners ample opportunity to give the game a play.

It’s understandable why Xbox players would be annoyed by this, as the beta was clearly being used as an incentive to play on PlayStation. However, what makes the situation even worse, is that many Xbox players are reporting issues when trying to group up with others in multiplayer. Issues that, players argue, may have been avoided if there had been an Xbox beta.

Players have been reporting issues on the Xbox One subreddit. Here are some examples:

Can confirm. I have met 0 people…It kept saying there are no sessions.. – bjki1107

Agree with you. And we payed the f***ing same! 10 hours playing and couldn’t play a single multiplayer. – Leiteit

Multiplayer is totally fucked on the xbox. I thought it was just me, but then again it’s freaking launch day, it should be swarming with people of similar level. So far, ZERO PEOPLE. – randomelixirdevdude

The official Monster Hunter Twitter account has just confirmed that the developers are aware of the issues on Xbox:

Yeah, an Xbox beta would have been nice. Here’s hoping the problems are remedied swiftly!

In other Monster Hunter: World news, reviews for the game are averaging 90, the day one update is live, and here’s all the Achievements and Trophies players can earn.

Fortnite Party Issues to Be Fixed Later Today, More Downtime Expected (Update)

Update:

Epic Games has confirmed that a fix has been implemented, and that players should see full functionality return to the game.

Original Story:

Fortnite is suffering yet more problems, with all party modes now unavailable. Solo and Fill are still open to players, but those hoping to team up with friends are out of luck.

Epic Games has acknowledged the problems, and is working on a fix. Unfortunately, it looks like the repairs will require an unspecified amount of downtime.

Hi everyone, Fortnite has had another big bump in player count this week and we were not prepared for it. We have had a ton of issues and we are working hard to getting them sorted. We can’t apologize to our players enough, and you can be sure that we are going to make this right. We can only ask you for your patience. We will likely be taking Fortnite offline for a while so we can work through this. We’ll let you know when that will happen. We will update you soon on the next steps.

UPDATE: 11:48 AM The Fortnite party service is down, and Solo and Fill are the only modes available. Players should expect downtime to fix the problem later today.

We’ll keep you updated on the downtime status, and any other developments.

Here’s All PUBG Known Issues, List Created to “Improve Transparency and Communication”

A new “PUBG Known Issues” list can be found on the game’s official forums. The developer will be updating it with new problems, as they’re discovered. The list is “an effort to further improve transparency and communication between [PUBG] players and developers.”

Keen PUBG players should bookmark the list, as it will “be regularly updated to keep [players] informed on what is being fixed/investigated.”

Here’s the current list: (Updated 1/26/2018)

Scheduled To Be Fixed

These issues have been already resolved internally. They will be applied in the next live server patch.

The compass UI wobbling when parachuting straight down

Dying from falling when vaulting and climbing in the water

Delay between reload and the first shot

The adjusted zoom level in 8x scope resets after changing into another weapon

When the character opens the door while sitting down, the door opens as the character stands up instead of opening immediately

When player changes the seat while the motorcycle is in the air, it stops and sinks to the ground

Holographic and Red Dot sights are intermittently pixelated

Some in-game texts are missing or misaligned

After reconnecting to the game, the camera direction of ADS FPP goes off intermittently

Under Investigation / Fix In Progress

These are issues that are under investigation or in the process of being resolved.

Random overturning of motorcycles

Two players getting stuck in the door

When reporting through replay, sometimes the name is wrong or even invisible

After reconnecting to a DUO/SQUAD game, team members’ markers on the map are different from their actual locations

After reconnecting to a DUO/SQUAD game, team members’ HP indicators on the lower left appear full and do not change

Need To Be Reported

These are comparatively rare issues that require individual resolution. If you are experiencing one of these issues, please contact customer support.

In the main menu, the BP appears as N/A and there is a message that says match making failed

Please contact customer support with screenshots of your main menu. The issue is due to an issue with inventory information
BP appears as “-“

Sometimes when the server is unstable, actions that consume BP such as character customization are made multiple times in a series, consuming a large amount of BP at the same time. Please take a screenshot of your main menu and contact customer support

When trying to reconnect to the game after disconnecting, “Reconnect” button isn’t there.

If you see an error message in the lower part of the main menu, please contact customer support with a screenshot.

Resolved Issues

These are issues which were patched on the live servers among the “Scheduled To Be Fixed” category.

To be updated soon

Good to see developers making an effort to keep players informed. Here’s hoping this is a trend that continues long into 2018, and beyond.

In other PUBG news, Xbox has said that sales for the console version are “very big,” netcode analysis shows that the game has a big problem, and the Battle Royale Trainer is here to help players improve.

For Honor Dedicated Servers Coming in Next Update, Season 5 Dated

Last month, Ubisoft has been testing the roll out of For Honor dedicated servers. Now, we finally have a date! Coinciding with For Honor’s fifth season (called Age of Wolves), which will commence on February 15, the For Honor dedicated servers  will be making their debut on that date, too!

This was announced by Ubisoft earlier today over on the official Ubi Blog, where we also get a new season five trailer, and a brief Q&A with the studio regarding the new servers.

Here’s a quick Q&A with Damien Kieken, the Game Director for For Honor.

For Honor is almost a year-old, and you just announced Season Five, which will come in February. Can you talk about what will come with it?

The start of 2018 is going to be all about prioritizing the core player experience by focusing on connectivity, game balance and matchmaking. All this begins with Age of Wolves on February 15, where we will refine five of the existing Heroes at launch and push our dedicated servers following the launch of the Season.

We will also be making a ton of quality of life changes including adjustments to gear progression, converting salvage to XP boosts, Faction War updates, and more. Following the launch of Age of Wolves, we will also be introducing new training modes that will assist with player onboarding.

The implementation of dedicated servers has been long awaited since its announcement last summer. How will that impact the player experience?

The open test we held in December was successful, and it gives us confidence that the infrastructure change will positively impact the player experience. With our new Dedicated Servers architecture, our players will see four key changes to their experience:

  1. Matches will be more stable leading to better overall match completion in PvP modes
  2. Matches will be smoother as the game will no longer pause (or even crash) due to leaving players, simulation resyncs or host migration.
  3. NAT types will no longer restrict or hinder player’s ability to group and matchmake.
  4. Matchmaking will create sessions more easily leading to better overall matchmaking success.

Of course, changing our online infrastructure while the game is running is a major undertaking and we will closely monitor the situation once the Dedicated Servers are implemented in the live environment. Some of our players may experience new issues that we are not aware of yet. Players’ feedback will be very helpful for us to make the required adjustments and optimize the infrastructure.

When will dedicated servers be implemented?

The new online infrastructure will be introduced during Season Five. We are currently finalizing the rollout plan and will be able to communicate more details shortly.

Check the full Q&A right here.

Anyone jumping back in the For Honor ship with the new servers?

Monster Hunter World Review Scores Now at Over 90 Average, Launch Trailer Crawls Out

In case you didn’t know, Capcom’s Monster Hunter World is finally out today! While the publisher rolled out a beta a few times for players to have a taste of all the slaying, the final game is upon us, and it seems to be a home run for Capcom!

Over on Metacritic, the Monster Hunter World review scores are sitting at a pretty 91 average at the time of this writing. If this pace continues, then World will most likely end up as the highest rated game in the franchise, and quite possibly end up in Game of the Year conversations later this year.

In case you’re not hyped enough for it yet, check out the launch trailer below to see what kind of monsters you’ll (eventually) be slaying.

In other Monster Hunter World news, you can check out the details on the day one update right here where online features, gallery mode and more are discussed.

Paragon Shutting Down in April, Refunds Being Offered

Just last week, Epic Games announced that they are slowing down development on the free-to-play MOBA game Paragon to focus on the hugely successful, Fortnite. Well, it seems they’re taking it a step further.

Over on the official Epic Games website, the company has announced that Paragon is shutting down! The main reason? Epic doesn’t see how it can improve the game to retain players. There is a super tiny silver lining though; those who spent money on the game can get a refund. Check out the complete note from Epic to Paragon fans, as well as the steps to refund below.

Hey Everyone,

It’s with heavy hearts we’ve decided to close down Paragon.

We truly appreciate everything you’ve put into Paragon. We received many passionate ideas for where to take the game; the outpouring of thoughtful suggestions is another testament to this incredible community.

After careful consideration, and many difficult internal debates, we feel there isn’t a clear path for us to grow Paragon into a MOBA that retains enough players to be sustainable.

We didn’t execute well enough to deliver on the promise of Paragon. We have failed you — despite the team’s incredibly hard work — and we’re sorry.

To try to make this right, Epic is offering a full refund to every Paragon player for every purchase on any platform. This refund will come directly from Epic rather than your platform provider.

To request your refund, follow these steps:

  1. If you’re not playing on PC, link your Epic account (create one if necessary).
  2. If you play on PC, or have already linked your Epic account, you can request your refund here.

Epic also mentioned that servers will be up until April 26, 2018. Though they also did mention that “as the player population continues to decrease, matchmaking times and quality will further degrade.”

Goodbye, Paragon! You’ll soon join the countless number of games in video game heaven. You will be missed.
