Sony’s Shawn Layden Heavily Hints at PSN ID Change Coming Next Year

At yesterday’s Sony PlayStation Experience informal meet and greet, Sony Interactive Entertainment President and CEO Shawn Layden kind of confirmed something that a lot of PlayStation gamers have been asking for since last gen, and that’s letting people do a PSN ID change for their existing PSN username!

Talking to KindaFunny’s Greg Miller, Layden was asked “will we be able to change our PlayStation Network names?” While not outright confirming or denying it, Layden gave a very loaded answer.

The elves back at the North Pole have been working on that for quite some time. It’s a large piece of work; and it’s more complex than we… (cuts off due to jeers from crowd). Let me put it this way, I hope we’ll see events occur where you won’t have to ask me that question next PSX.

You can Layden out saying it yourself in the super short video below.

Is it finally coming true? Are Sony’s “elves” finally close to making it a reality? For the sake of everyone with xXx_ in their names, let’s hope so. If ever this happens, don’t be surprised if there’s a corresponding fee involved as well since that should mitigate people constantly changing their usernames and whatnot (just like how Microsoft is doing it on the Xbox platform).

Destiny 2 Player Loses Wager, Bungie Pushes Him to Shave His Head

And now for a bit of Destiny 2 banter! Xur turned up yesterday stocking the insanely overpowered Prometheus Lens trace rifle. This absurdly powerful weapon can decimate opponents in the Crucible PvP mode, and presents a major problem when it comes to competitive play.

Xur selling the weapon basically opened it up for everyone to use. Kind of clever on Bungie’s part, because if everyone is overpowered, then no one is overpowered.

Reddit user JhonCensus knows how crazy the weapon is, and probably felt certain that there would be no way Bungie would allow Xur to sell it. JhonCensus went ahead and wrote a post taunting the mysterious “tentacle-faced s***,” daring Xur to sell Prometheus Lens and make the weekend a “100% Trials of the Lens.” If Xur followed through, JhonCensus promised that he would “shave [his] head and glue the hair to [his] face as a beard.”

If Xur sells Prometheus Lens tomorrow, I will shave my head and glue the hair to my face as a beard.

Do it you tentacle-faced s***. F*** my s*** up and make this weekend 100% Trials of the Lens.

Edit: I’m not bald. It’s called a receding hairline, ass clowns.

Edit 2: REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

The hair appointment is scheduled. OP will deliver.

Edit 3: Just wanted to say I have heard your feedback on me making a hair appointment. Don’t worry, I’m always listening. Going forward, I will be communicating more frequently. Love, Census.

Well, it looks like that’s happening, with edits to his post at least saying that it is.

Even Bungie is encouraging the cutting of hair!

Here’s hoping he follows through! Reddit Karma is everything, remember!

In other Destiny 2 news, the game’s future updates were detailed in a “State of the Game” overview, a limited edition loot crate is now available to pre-order, and a Destiny 2 free trial is now available for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

Gran Turismo Sport Update 1.08 Races Out, Here’s the Tweaks

Just a few days after we got Gran Turismo Sport update 1.07, a new one has just raced out today on the PlayStation 4. Gran Turismo Sport update 1.08 is super tiny at just 95MB, but it brings with it some much-needed bug fixes.

Here’s the patch notes from the official website.

Please note this update is NOT the update for additional vehicles as notified in the “’Gran Turismo Sport’ Future Updates Preview”

The items that will be fixed by this update are asfollows:

1. FriendRankings
 - The Friend Rankings of the Campaign has been refreshed to resolve issues.

2. SaveData
 - We have fixed an issue where the save data would become corrupted due to a mismatch occurring at startup regarding the number of Race Photos registered as favorites, depending on the number of photos registered as favorites from the Gallery.

Other issues for improving stability have been addressed.

Same as before, there’s scheduled maintenance happening every Tuesday, which will mean players won’t be able to save their progress while the maintenance period is on going for two hours. Don’t forget to check out our fast money exploit to net you some sweet cash fast and easy.

Firewall Zero Hour was the first game announced during Sony’s PlayStation Experience 2017 event. It’s a PlayStation VR exclusive title, bringing 4v4 tactical FPS gameplay to Sony’s headset.

Firewall Zero Hour is being developed by First Contact Entertainment.

Check out the reveal trailer below:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hXdBU90_rac

Firewall Zero Hour is a team-based, tactical multiplayer FPS coming exclusively to PlayStation VR in 2018.

Information is power and in the right or wrong hands, can change the course of the world simply with the push of a button. A well-timed release of sensitive data can bring the most powerful swiftly to their knees and crumble empires in an instant.

In Firewall Zero Hour, two teams of mercenaries are hired by anonymous contract handlers to either protect or obtain highly sensitive information on a laptop in dangerous and exotic locations around the globe. Each team’s anonymous contract handler acts as their “eye in the sky” and guides each match by providing objectives and critical mission information along the way. Their only concern is the data and they are willing to pay you handsomely for it.

  • As Attackers, your team’s objectives are: Bypass the Firewall access points, Locate the Laptop and Initiate the Hack.
  • As Defenders, your team’s objectives are: Secure the Firewall access points, Protect the Laptop and Prevent the Hack.

Each team accomplishes these objectives through highly-coordinated teamwork with an arsenal of modern weapons and offensive/defensive equipment to help their team and hinder the other. Players are rewarded in-game with cryptocurrency and experience points upon the successful completion of contracts/matches and can use those currencies to upgrade contractors, weapons, equipment, load-outs and cosmetic customization.

Ubisoft Delays Far Cry 5, The Crew 2 and an “Unannounced Franchise” Game

In a press release, Ubisoft has announced the release date delays of Far Cry 5, The Crew 2, and an “unannounced franchise” game.  Far Cry 5, which was originally scheduled for release on February 27, 2018, will now be out on March 27, 2018. The Crew 2 will come out in the “first half of fiscal 2018-19” rather than on the original target date of March 16, 2018.

In addition to those two, Ubisoft also states, “one of the three unannounced franchise games initially planned for release in Fiscal 2018-19 now will be released in Fiscal 2019-20.” As one can expect, no other clues were given about this unannounced game.

According to Ubisoft, part of the delay stems from the the success of Assassin’s Creed Origins, which eschewed its annual release to tinker with the game’s formula.

Christine Burgess-Quémard, Ubisoft’s Worldwide Studios Executive Director: “This decision is in line with our strategic vision of developing even more engaging and higher quality experiences for gamers. Taking more time with Assassin’s Creed Origins enabled our talented development team to fully express their creative vision. As expected, this had a very positive impact on the game’s quality and largely participated to its commercial success. Taking a similar approach, we have decided to invest additional development time in three upcoming games.”

If the delay means more polish and a better gaming experience, then bring it on. I’d rather have a finished game than something rushed just to meet sales projections, and glad Ubisoft sees it that way too.

Star Wars Battlefront II Sells Over 800K in Debut at Retail, New The Last Jedi Challenges Are Up

Just a few days ago, we posted the Star Wars Battlefront II The Last Jedi season challenges. Well, it looks like there’s a bunch of new ones up right now. Thankfully, the new one is super easy and just consists of defeating 75 enemies using any class.

Speaking of The Last Jedi, check out the season trailer right here to see Finn and Captain Phasma in action. There’s also talk of microtransactions not coming back at all to Battlefront II, which should make a ton of people very happy.

In other Battlefront II news, the game has reportedly sold 882,000 units at retail in its first two weeks of availability according to the NPD Group. This sales figure doesn’t count digital downloads and is only applicable for US sales. For reference, 2015’s Battlefront sold 1.8 million copies at retail in its launch month.

This is a massive drop off in sales, which no doubt have been affected by the negative word of mouth surrounding loot boxes and microtransactions.

Are you surprised at all in Battlefront II’s initial sales numbers or did you expect it given the negative reaction to the game and how EA tried to force in microtransactions?

Monster Hunter World Beta Download Is Now Live, Get It Here

In case you need something to play this weekend, Capcom’s Monster Hunter World beta is now live! Set to start today until December 12, 9 a.m. PST, the Monster Hunter World beta download can be initiated here, and it’s around 5.47GB.

If you’re wondering what to expect from this action-adventure online game, here’s some of the important info.

Specifics

  • Start Time: December 9, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. PT / 5:00 p.m. GMT / 6:00 p.m. CET
  • End Time: December 12, 2017 at 8:59 a.m PT / 4:59 p.m. GMT / 5:59 p.m. CET
  • Location: Your gaming room + the Internet
  • Requirements: Internet connection, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Plus subscription, 5.9 GB of free space, hunting spirit

Quests

The beta features three quests across two environments from the game. In the Ancient Forest, you can hunt a fierce yet beginner-friendly Great Jagras or as a more experienced player confront the mighty threat of an Anjanath. In the Wildspire Waste, a massive, dry expanse with swamplands, you can face off against the intermediate level mud-slinging Barroth.

Rewards

In addition to an unquantifiable amount of fun, complete each quest and you’ll get some useful bonus items in the full game! Just make sure you use the same Sony Entertainment Network account for both the beta and the full game.

Additional Notes

Each quest can be done solo or with up to three other players online, and you’ll be able to choose from 14 different weapon types based on your preferred play style, which you can now change during quests at camp. You can even try out each of them before heading out on a quest by visiting the series’ all-new Training Room, included in the beta! Potions and other supplies will be provided on quests during the beta, but you’ll have to fetch your own food and drinks outside the game for those long gameplay sessions.

And one final note – this beta is just a taste for what the quests will look and feel like in the full game. The beta features a game currently in development and some aspects about balance may be different from the full game, but the satisfaction of tracking and bringing down a giant monster you’ll find is all there.

Stay tuned to our Monster Hunter World beta impressions set to go up soon once we get enough time with the beta.
