Star Wars Battlefront II Beginner’s Guide Tips and Tricks

[tps_header]

With Star Wars Battlefront II out in first trial for the Xbox One and PC, and being available a few days early with the deluxe edition letting owners play a few days early, those who bought Star Wars Battlefront II the actual day of release, which is this past Friday, will need all the help they can in order to catch up.

In this quick MP1st guide for Battlefront II, we offer some tips based on our hands-on experience, and should prove useful for those starting out, and even for those who’ve managed to gain a few levels in multiplayer.

[/tps_header]

[tps_title]Use Credits for Items First Initially[/tps_title]

Once loading the game and entering your first few multiplayer matches, you’ll gain an initial influx of credits that you can you use to buy loot crates, or Heroes and other items. While it’s tempting to save whatever amount you have to buy Darth Vader or Luke Skywalker right away, don’t.

Unlock more items, Star Cards and more. Trust us, it’ll make things easier, and the game more fun. I mean, how fun would it be to save up on a Hero and being stomped on along the way? Not much, right?

Learn to come to grips with the game mechanics first, and then once you have, then go save up for Vader or something then.

Sledgehammer Games Claims “More Fans” Like Call of Duty: WWII Low Domination Score

A few weeks ago, we posted a story with evidence that Sledgehammer Games didn’t implement the promised Call of Duty: WWII beta changes they were supposed to do in the final game. One of the promised changes that Sledgehammer said would be in the final game was each kill in Domination would be 100 instead of 50.

Well, as it turns out, this 50-per-kill score in Domination is by design! What’s more, Michael Condrey, Sledgehammer Games boss claims “more fans” like Domination kills at 50. This was revealed by Condrey over on Twitter where he answered a YouTuber’s concern.

Condrey also adds that he has 15,000+ years of match hours in COD: WWII, and that the “majority fun vote” is Domination kills at 50 score per.

Why is this a big deal and why are fans in outrage? Well, it’s due to how hard it is to earn even the simplest of scorestreaks in Domination. Sure, one can argue that it promotes more gunplay and objective play, but as the saying goes, “don’t fix what ain’t broken,” right? Past COD titles have perfected the scoring system, and this change rocks the boat (in my opinion) unnecessarily.

Do you want Domination kills in COD: WWII to stay at 50 or should it go back to 100? Or maybe change it to 75 and meet halfway? Do you agree with Condrey that 50 points per kill is better?” Let us know what you think in the comments.

In other COD: WWII news, go check out a Domination spawn guide to help you understand where enemies will spawn in. We also posted a list of multiplayer changes we want to see in COD: WWII ASAP.

Battleborn Developer Gearbox Sent Death Threat, Letter Claims Every Employee to Be Executed

Just a few days ago, we reported that an alleged (confirmed fake) game developer got a ton of death threats due to controversy surrounding Star Wars Battlefront II. While that one might have been a fake troll job by someone who wanted his 15 minutes of fame, these sort of things do happen from time to time.

Well, one of those times is (really this time) now. Gearbox Software (Battleborn, Borderlands) seems to be the recipient of one such hate-filled letter that the writer of the said letter even threatens to “execute” each employee of the studio. The letter was shared by Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford over on Twitter.

You can read the entire bit below (with typos and all).

In case you’re wondering why there’s squiggly red lines under some of the words (making it appear newly written in some sort of document), Pitchford answered people on Twitter that said he, himself, wrote it, and explained he copy and pasted from the email to the Word document remove headers and addresses.

Pitchford mentions that he thinks the threat is not credible, but the studio’s legal team is already looking into it.

Regardless if you like or hate a game, it’s never OK to send death threats or personal attacks, people! Maybe if you’re just full of hate, vent out on a game or reach out to developers on Twitter? Just be within reason, please.

Payday 2 VR is Now Available for Testing, Gameplay Trailer Celebrates Beta Launch

Payday 2 VR is now available for beta testing on PC. It’s free to access for all owners of the standard Payday 2 game. In order to play the game in virtual reality, you’ll need a HTC Vive headset.

If you have a Vive, follow these simple steps to access the Payday 2 VR beta:

– Find Payday 2 in your Steam library and right-click – select Properties.

– In the Properties window – select the tab called “BETAS.”

– In the drop down menu in the BETAS tab – select “open_vr_beta” and close the window.

What’s cool, is that Payday 2 VR supports cross-play with the standard version, meaning you can squad-up with teammates who don’t possess a Vive. What’s not so cool, is that the Payday 2 VR beta will use a separate save file, and progression won’t be carried over from the vanilla game.

Check out the beta trailer below, which celebrates the release:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wReOLZ6qVs8

The PAYDAY 2 VR beta begins! If you own a HTC VIVE VR headset you can now enjoy PAYDAY 2 in Virtual Reality either with up to 3 other VR players or any mix of VR and desktop players. Join the beta on Steam to check it out right now!

Will you be trying your hand at pulling a heist in VR? Let us know.

Report: Battlefield 1 Turning Tides Release Date Seemingly Outed

While game release dates are a big deal in the video game world, the same can be said for DLCs, expansions and the like — especially for a big, multi-million-selling game. Well, that seems to be the case for Battlefield 1’s upcoming expansion, Turning Tides!

We already know that Turning Tides will be released in December, but it seems we now have a firm BF1 Turning Tides release date courtesy of EA themselves! According to the official Battlefield website, which nonchalantly posted it, the Battlefield 1 Turning Tides release date will be on December 11! Check out the screengrab below just in case EA pulls it.

We’ve reached out to EA just to confirm if this is a placeholder date, or the real deal, and will update the post once they’ve responded.

For more on Turning Tides, check out some of the new weapons and equipment confirmed for the expansion, or better yet, maybe go watch some early gameplay to see the new weapons and maps in action.

Are you ready to brave the harsh waters this December 11 or will you be occupied by other shooters out in the market?

New Squad Update Includes “First Iteration of Modding Support” & More

The Alpha 9.15 patch has been released for SquadThis update works on fixing the Custom Servers browser displaying licensed servers, and implements initial support for modding.

Find the full list of Squad updates below:

– Fixed Custom Servers browser showing licensed servers.

– Changed Yeho Invasion 2 Final Stand flag minimum enemies to capture the flag to 3 like all other flags.

– Fixed a weapons cache spawning in a closed building on Logar Night Insurgency.

– Mestia: Fixed issues with vehicle claiming and vehicle respawns.

– Mestia: Did more adjustments to the lighting.

– Mestia: Regarding a performance issue some users have reported – we are able to reproduce it on one of our systems now. Unfortunately, it’s not an easy fix. The affected GPUs need for a certain operation more than twenty times as long as otherwise comparable GPUs. We are still working on a solution. The only way to reduce this issue for now is lowering the in-game resolution.

– Added initial gameside support for modding and steam workshop integration. Custom servers are now allowed to run modded maps. Players trying to join a modded server will be directed to the steam workshop if they aren’t subscribed to the required mods. Read more about modding in the upcoming Modding Recap article.

– Changed game files to packaged format to allow mod packs to be loaded. This causes an increased update size and update install time.

Will you be joining in on the Alpha? Or simply just excited to have a whirl with modding? Let us know below.

Need for Speed Payback Update Increases In-Game Rewards, Is “Phase One” of Changes

A new Need for Speed Payback update is now available across all platforms. Its purpose is “to make the progression, especially around the ownership of cars, a much more enjoyable experience.”

The update increases in-game rewards across a variety of events, allowing players to progress at an increased speed.

Here’s a list of what’s changed:

– Increased the amount of REP awarded by taking part in events.

– Increased the amount of Bank awarded by taking part in events.

– Bait crates now reward increased REP.

– Bait crates now reward increased Bank.

– Competing against a Roaming Racer will reward you with increased REP.

– Competing against a Roaming Racer will reward you with increased Bank.

– Air Suspension will now appear more frequently within Shipments.

– Slightly increased REP and Bank for finishing an event outside of first place.

Ghost Games has described these changes as “phase one” and have assured players that “further tweaks” are coming:

Coming shortly will be some changes to the way tune-up shops work, especially around the quality / level of parts they stock. More on that soon.

A dev-tip was also provided, recommending players recycle speed cards for tokens:

It is worth noting that we do encourage you to recycle your speed cards for tokens. Targeted rolls are a very good alternative to tune-up shops. Definitely worth buying out the parts from the tune-up shop and recycling them.

Some great changes for players who felt that progression was a little too slow!

In other Need for Speed news, the latest trailer showcases key characters and features, the previous update fixed crash issues and sound problems, and a Ghost Games developer defended the game’s microtransactions

Report: Disney Unhappy With How Long EA Took Action Against Star Wars Battlefront II Microtransactions, Exclusivity Deal Threatened

Following yesterday’s shocking announcement that EA finally caved in and removed (for now) all microtransaction elements in Star Wars Battlefront II, it seems we now know a bit more on what happened behind the scenes.

According to a source that wishes to remain anonymous, Disney talked with top-level EA executives over the growing backlash (something that was corroborated by The Wall Street Journal who reported that Consumer Products and Interactive Media boss Jimmy Pitaro sent a message to EA about their concerns) regarding Star Wars Battlefront II’s bad press when it comes to loot crates, and how some see it as “gambling.”

Based on the info we received, it states that both parties agreed that the Battlefront II microtransactions model needs to be revamped to stave off further backlash. Also, it mentions how Disney was “unhappy” with how long EA took effective action regarding the situation since it has evolved enough that the backlash could potentially harm the Star Wars IP given The Last Jedi is hitting theaters soon.

Possibly the biggest thing though, is how Disney apparently gave a less-than-direct threat that EA could lose the Star Wars publishing exclusivity rights if things didn’t improve. The House of Mouse had concerns about the exclusivity deal with EA due to the press backlash, investigations regarding gambling, and the bad press involved.

MP1st has reached out to EA, with a rep for the publisher stating, “we are not commenting on that” as the only statement so far.

Once we know more details, or if EA issues a more formal statement, we’ll update the story.

Continuing its fantastic support for Fortnite, Epic Games has released a new development update video that talks about a few things about the game’s hugely popular battle royale mode.

First off, “rocket-riding” and the like are here to stay, unless Epic sees anything game-breaking with it. Team killing is also being checked on to prevent it. A new weapon coming to the mode are silenced SMGs. Speaking of, there’s going to be buffs coming to the weapon with increased damaged, magazine size and more.

Watch the video below.

You can check out the latest update to Fortnite Battle Royale here.

What should Epic work on for the game’s next update above all else? Any nagging issues or glitches that needs fixing ASAP? If so, let us know in the comments.

Crossfire Battle Royale Mode Coming to Mobile Version

If you’re not familiar with CrossFire, I don’t blame you. It’s a first-person shooter that looks and feels like Counter-Strike, but instead of Valve, was made by Smilegate, and published by Chinese publishing behemoth Tencent (League of Legends).

It’s a big game in Asia, and one that’s still kicking along since its release back in 2008. Now that the battle royale craze is at an all-time high, CrossFire will be jumping into the bandwagon! According to reliable video game analyst Daniel Ahmad, CrossFire battle royale is indeed a reality for the mobile game.

In case the tweet doesn’t show up for you, it reads:

Crossfire, a popular FPS game in Asia (It’s like Counter Strike) is going to get a battle royale mode in the mobile game which is published by Tencent in China

Fun Fact: Tencent & NetEase, the two largest game publishers in China, have already announced 5 titles with BR elements

Those in Asia who have been playing CrossFire, you’ll be getting some PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds-like love from Tencent! Question is: do you even want it, or should something new be introduced?

Middle-earth: Shadow of War Multiplayer Endgame Experience After 50 Hours

It might seem unusual to see Middle-earth: Shadow of War featured here on MP1st, as it’s known mostly for its single-player component. Hell, I’d wager that many of you didn’t even know that Shadow of War had a player-versus-player component… Well, it does, though it might not be what you’re expecting! You see, Online Sieges in Shadow of War use real-player armies, but are controlled by AI.

At launch, I binged the Shadow of War single-player campaign, staying up until 5 a.m. at launch, and just loving every moment of it. I achieved the “first ending” and began to work my way towards the “true ending.”

50 Hours Later…

50 hours have passed since I began the final act, “Shadow Wars”. This final chapter frustrated a lot of reviewers, and I can understand why. It increases the grind significantly, and clearly isn’t intended to be rushed. Microtransactions will indeed speed things up, but there’s not an enormous pressure to invest. You’ve got to remember that reviewers are often in a rush to complete a game and meet the embargo. This game is not very reviewer friendly!

Shadow of War‘s endgame feels very similar to that of Destiny 2, with Daily Quests and random loot drops. Like with Bungie’s “living shooter,” Shadow of War‘s final challenge isn’t supposed to be a simple walk in the park. There are sidequests to complete and collectibles to find, which all grant better loot and help you grow stronger. It’s the equivalent of grinding to Power Level 305 in Destiny 2

Diving Into Multiplayer

Taking part in the game’s multiplayer is one way of getting better orcs, though the process is slow and can become repetitive. With that said, as Online Sieges become more predictable, the easier they become to beat. Hell, I’ve managed to successfully take over a high-level fortress with no special unit support whatsoever. (I did this for fun, and just to see if it was possible!)

Occasionally, I’ll come across a fortress that’s loaded with high-level Legendary orcs. While they are tougher to beat and possess more strengths, they haven’t proven to be frustratingly overpowered. Perhaps if the opposing player was physically controlling them, I might have a bigger problem, but even the scariest (potentially paid-for) orcs can be felled with careful combat and clever ability use. A max (or almost max) level Talion has proven to be an incredibly powerful force.

Don’t get me wrong, it definitely doesn’t hurt to have high-level orcs watching your back. Legendaries have proven incredibly rare for me to hunt down in the wild, while Epics are fairly common (in my experience). The easiest way of ranking orcs is to make them battle in the Fighting Pits. Orcs take each other on in one-on-one combat and the winner gets a boost. You don’t actually control the fighter, but you can at least see the strengths and weaknesses of the enemy and plan accordingly. It’s a pretty cool feature, but after 100+ fights, I wish there was a “Skip Fight Sequence” function!

Microtransactions and Pay-to-Win

I haven’t put any money into Shadow of War‘s microtransactions. I’ve completed Daily Quests which reward Gold and Mirian, and used what I’ve earned to buy bundles of chests. The rewards here are significant and can rapidly speed the endgame process up, which may be enough to get some players to drop serious dollar, but for online play the advantage becomes increasingly moot. A level 60 Talion can warp the mind of any orc and change them into an ally, turning a fearsome foe into a deadly ally.

The controversy surrounding Shadow of War‘s loot boxes was overblown, in my opinion. However, I will say that the overall presentation of the in-game market, and the bizarre insertion of loot crates into the world of Mordor, is more than a little jarring.

Slow Ride, Take It Easy

Rather than solely depending upon random spawns or loot box drops for new Legendaries, I’d love to see additional ways of securing high-level orcs. A similar feature to Hitman‘s “Elusive Targets”, where a new specialized orc pops up for a limited time to be captured or killed, would be superb and well-suited to the game. I know free content drops are coming, and I expect the Shadow of War endgame experience to only get better.

I think that the final chapter is supposed to be enjoyed at a relaxed pace, and is intended to last through the upcoming expansions, with players building their endgame armies with new and exciting tribes, and equipping Talion with better and more badass weapons and armor.

In short, yes, microtransactions can fast-track players to the “true ending,” but the advantage in multiplayer is nowhere near as significant as many players (and non-players!) claimed.

Report – Star Wars Battlefront II Microtransactions to Still Provide “Accelerated Experience” When They Return (Update 2)

Update 2:

MP1st got an email from EA, which mentioned that the USGamer report used “certain terms that are in fact, not attributable to EA.”

Update:

It seems USGame made an error in interpreting the message, as their post has now reflected that they did NOT get any statement form EA about it. This is the updated quote from USGamer

The original story included quotes that appear to be directly attributed to EA. EA clarified to USG that they are currently evaluating Star Wars Battlefront 2’s microtransactions and that they have nothing further to share beyond the original statment (sic). The original story has been updated to reflect this.

Once we know more, or have heard anything different, we’ll let you know.

Original Story

In a shocking move, just hours before launch, Star Wars Battlefront II microtransactions were completely removed from the game. No longer can players pay to unlock loot boxes and gain an immediate advantage over others. However, this is only a temporary measure, and microtransactions will return.

Reportedly speaking with USGamer, an EA representative explained that microtransactions were being tweaked in order to find “the right balance” between those wanting to progress by playing the game as normal, and those who preferred and valued an “accelerated experience.”

USGamer mentioned “accelerators” as being the new focus for Battlefront II‘s loot boxes. It’s possible that “Double XP” or “Double Credits” boosts will be available for purchase in the future, though no specifics were given.

EA is working to get the microtransactions and loot box-driven progression “right.” How it will manage this, I do not know.

We’ve reached out to EA for confirmation and further clarification. The post will be updated should a response come through.

In other Star Wars Battlefront II news, Blizzard Entertainment has poked fun at the game in their latest StarCraft II trailer and related tweets, a day one patch that brings “a bit more polish” to the game has been revealed and rolled out, and the Belgium Gaming Commission is investigating whether or not the game’s loot boxes constitute as gambling.

Yet more screenshots have been revealed for the upcoming PUBG desert map. Nvidia is the source this time around, posting five exclusive images which are intended to give players “an idea of the gameplay opportunities it and the new vaulting system present.”

You can find all five images below. I’m curious as to whether players will be able to climb to the top of the cranes… Maybe an accurate jump from the plane will land you atop one?

What do you make of the upcoming desert map? Excited from what you’ve seen so far? Or still waiting for something to truly “wow” you? Let us know.

In other PUBG news, over 100,000 cheaters were banned during the past weekend, the desert map got new screenshots showing new locations, and developer Bluehole has revealed its new MMORPG project

Datamining of the Test Server 1.0 patch lead to a new weapon and vehicles being discovered, along with the desert map minimap and jet skis.
