Loot Box Game “I Can’t Believe It’s Not Gambling” Pokes Fun at Recent Controversy

I Can’t Believe It’s Not Gambling is a loot box game intended “purely for parody.” It pokes fun at the latest paid loot box craze, while not actually including any microtransactions of its own.

What kind of gameplay can you expect from I Can’t Believe It’s Not Gambling? Well, you open lots and lots of loot boxes!

Here’s the official description:

We here at Mutant Studios feel like this whole loot box craze hasn’t gone far enough… To remedy this, we present: I Can’t Believe It’s Not Gambling!

The entire game is just opening Loot Boxes! Why? To unlock better loot boxes of course! Loot boxes are a great way to show progression, but why waste all that time playing the actual game? We’ve cut out the middle-man so you have more time to open boxes!

Open boxes, unlock new skins and hats for your Lootbox Loadout, then open some more boxes! Earn better boxes by selling what you don’t want and spending more fake currency! This game is sure to hit that addicting itch that’ll have you saying:

“I Can’t Believe It’s Not Gambling!”

*Note: This game is purely for parody. There are no actual microtransactions within the game, only genuine progression. Side effects of ‘I Can’t Believe It’s Not Gambling’ include mild amusement, breathing slightly more air out of your nose, chuckling under your breath, nodding with that sort of half smile when you don’t want to laugh at a joke but recognize it was a pretty decent joke and need to acknowledge it, minor shame, and reduced money. If you experience any of these things for more than 4 hours, consider calling your doctor immediately, or play any real game…*

Head here to check the game out on Steam. It’s set to launch on November 29.

What do you think of this loot box game? I suppose it’s good to have a sense of humor about this kind of thing!

Star Wars Battlefront II Party Spawn System in the Works, DICE Confirms

In an attempt to clear up the Star Wars Battlefront II Hero grind/loot box/microtransactions mess, three members of the DICE development team headed over to Reddit to answer the community’s questions.

User Spacy_Wildguns wanted to know why Battlefront II doesn’t feature a Battlefield-esque spawn system:

What is the reason you can’t do a real squad system like in Battlefield 2 that was amazing and very popular ? is the reason to keep it as casual as possible and not promote teamwork or skill ?

Design director Dennis Brannvall gave the following answer:

I don’t believe in just taking a feature from one game and tossing into this one. We’ve tried it several times and it doesn’t work that way. We don’t have the same levels as Battlefield, our environments and what you expect from the planets we build are different, nor do we have the same game modes for the same reason. That being said, we’re currently prototyping an update to our spawn waves that allow parties to stay together and spawn on each other. No timeline yet, but we’ll let you know.

Star Wars Battlefront II is set to launch November 17 across PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. However, those with special editions of the game, as well as those with an Origin Access or EA Access subscription, are already playing.

In other Star Wars Battlefront II news, Blizzard Entertainment has poked fun at the game in their latest StarCraft II trailer and related tweets, a day one patch that brings “a bit more polish” to the game has been revealed and rolled out, and the Belgium Gaming Commission is investigating whether or not the game’s loot boxes constitute as gambling.

DICE “Would Have Loved” If Progression System Hadn’t Impacted Battlefront II Review Scores

During a Star Wars Battlefront II‘s Reddit AMA, three DICE developers attempted to answer the community’s most burning questions.

User TheAlfiandOmega wondered how DICE felt about some of the lower review scores that the game has received:

Do you feel the 6.5/10 review that GameInformer released on your game was an adequate score based on the product you released? Do you think the score would’ve been higher if the game was not riddled with micro transactions and a progression system inherently tied to those micro transactions?

Design director Dennis Brannvall offered this response:

I feel that the score was impacted by the feedback on our progression system and obviously would have loved if that wasn’t the case. I believe the gameplay, art, audio and depth warrants higher recognition, but I’m a developer, so I’m not necessarily the most unbiased source. Reviewers are obviously entitled to their own opinions, and we respect that completely.

When asked what the developer was doing to change the game based on the negative review feedback, producer Paul Keslin responded:

We care more about how you all enjoy the game and how long you all play the game vs. what its metacritic score is.

As for direct actions, we’ll continue to adapt as fast as possible to things we know aren’t working well. For example we know that Progression needs reworking and that’s on our roadmap as something we need to change – some things can be done quicker than others.

In the meantime we’ll improve and expand on what works and rework or eliminate what doesn’t. Your feedback directly impacts what features fall in which bucket.

Ghost Recon Wildlands Update Live, Patch Notes Now Available

Following Ghost Recon Wildlandsscheduled maintenance period, during which a new update was pushed through to the game on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, Ubisoft has now released patch notes which detail all changes and improvements made.

Here’s the full rundown of what’s new and improved:

The list below includes changes from the current patch and some changes that were made earlier, but not communicated in-game. The list only includes significant, gameplay-impacting changes, and does not mention the numerous other fixes tweaks and improvements in this version.

Perks

Thermal Goggles – This perk proved more powerful than intended and, beyond that, was having a negative impact on the experience, even for players using it successfully. Reducing the visibility of opponents would have brought it to hte other end of the spectrum, into complete irrelevance. In order to allow it to be viable, but more niche, we have moved it to the Support category, and made it only useable while in a drone. It has traded places with the Quick Hands perk, which is now available to all classes.

Classes

Disruptor – This new Assault class has been added to the game. The Disruptor jams enemies around him, removing their access to the mini-map and their ability to see marks. Season Pass owners will have immediate access to the class, while the other players will be able to purchase the Disruptor with Prestige Credits after a small period of Season Pass exclusivity.

Sniper – This class was the most picked in the game by a wide margin, with its extreme deadliness making it more attractive than the other long range options. To slightly tone it down and give it some weaknesses, while still making sure it remains viable, the damage from the Sniper’s rifles has been reduced so that enemies with HP over 120% can survive a body shot. We also eliminated the mine from its loadout.

Assault classes – Most assault classes now have a 30% HP bonus that allows them to survive a Sniper shot. This includes the Pointman, the Tech, and the new Disruptor class. The Tank retains its specifically high HP, while the Assassin, a stealth class that should avoid being seen, does not get an HP bonus. To slightly balance the HP increase, the unlockable HP bonus of the Assault category has been decreased from 15 to 10.

Enforcer – This class has received a few tweaks and fixes to increase its viability and to help players understand the suppresion’s impact on enemies. The Enforcer now has access to the versatile EXPS & G33 scope, which can change between two different levels fo zoom on the fly. A unique “suppressed” feedback has been added on enemies affected by the Enforcer. We also fixed a bug that made it impossible to suppress multiple enemies at the same time. A handy Enforcer should now be able to keep multiple enemies in check.

Ranger – The Ranger hasn’t been able to find its place in the game yet and it is mostly picked as a second, less effective Sniper. In order to increase its impact in close quarter battles, we have given the Ranger a 50% boost to stamina and slightly increased the effectiveness of the PSG submachine gun.

Recruit – This starter class had become a trap to beginner players, as the combination of a drone and a diverse selection of weapons made it appear more powerful than it was. To make its role in the game clearer, we have removed the drone from its loadout.

Sentinel – Improved the Sentinel interface, making it easier for the Sentinel to set up trackers and allowing teammates to see where the trackers are placed.

Diversionist – The Diversionist’s stealth drone is its main asset, as it gives enemies no warning that they are being watched. However, without hte ability to mark, this drone require more careful maneuvering, so we have increased its battery life.

Maps

Quarry – The northern side of the map was slightly favored. The southern spawn point has been moved forward, so that both teams can reach the map’s key locations at the same time. Some more cover was also added in the central area, to make flanking more viable.

Dust Town – Streamlined the map layout and removed from play a portion of the map that was too easily defensible.

Coca Farm – This map has been removed from the Quickplay rotation from the time being. It is still accessible in Custom Match.

Weapons

Loadout options – Most classes now have a wider variety of handguns available to choose from. Alternate scope attachments have also been added. Each class can select from a number of equivalent scopes, so players can choose one they find comfortable without impacting the class balance.
Suppressors – Removed the damage reduction from having a suppressor equipped. This should make handguns more useful in combat and less clumsy to use.

Holster – The ability to holster weapons was removed from Ghost War. This ability did not impact movement speed and was only used to gain an unfair advantage by seeing enemies over tall obstacles.

Game Modes

Uplink – This new game mode has been added to the game, with four new maps: Burnt-out, Oil Rush, Sub Factory, and Warehouse in Uplink, teams fight over a centrally located access point.

Elimination – The original deathmatch-style mode for Ghost War is now named Elimination. Two new maps have been added to this mode: Farm Town and Cartel Depot.

Other Improvements

New camo packs and class packs are available in the Store.
Leaving ongoing Quick Play matches will now lead to time-out penalties. Players will be notified beforehand of upcoming penalties.
Matchmaking was tweaked so that beginner players have better chances to encounter appropriate opponents. Note that matchmaking is only based on players’ Match Making Rating and no other criteria. MMR is a value representing the player’s skill and goes up and down depending on the result of every round. If players of various in-game levels find themselves in the same match, it is because they have a similar MMR.
Reduced the amount of XP required to reach each level so players will progress much quicker. Some issues related to the functionality of the progression UI has also been fixed.

With maintenance over, and the update downloaded and installed, players can proceed to test out the new changes. Enjoy!

Star Wars Battlefront II Matchmaking Takes Star Cards & Inventory Into Account

Three members of the Star Wars Battlefront II development team took to Reddit to answer some of the community’s questions.

User HyzerRay asked how players who had little time and money were supposed to compete with those who invested of lot of cash into the game:

As a father with young kids, the two things that I lack are time and money. For all players like myself, with the vertical progression of the star card system how can we progress in game and stay on EVEN footing with those that have hours upon hours to grind daily, and those that are willing to throw down $$$ on loot crates for power increases via star cards and hero unlocks?

Design direct Dennis Brannvall offered this response:

Mainly through matchmaking. We take into account not only your gameplay skills, but also inventory and time played, when we match players together in multiplayer. You should not ever be matchmade together with players who are much better than you are. Ultimately your effectiveness is going to come down to skill, not the Star Cards that you have. If it doesn’t feel that way, we’ll see it on our side, too. Our data will tell that story and we’ll make adjustments. We’re looking at results from millions of matches and will be continuously rebalancing items, unlocks, and matchmaking to create a fair, fun experience for all of our players. Beyond that, all Star Cards have maximum values regardless of how they are unlocked.

Executive producer John Wasilczyk also chimed in with this:

Our matchmaking system will rank players who do well against other players that do well. If they wreck players in one game, the next game they’ll be put against other players with similar skill. That’s the intent. We’re going to look at cases like these as they’re likely indicative of matchmaking errors. This is potentially occurring because the servers are still populating, since the game only just released.

We’re finishing rolling all the versions of the game out around the world this week which will affect server populations and matchmaking. Once that’s complete we’ll be working on updating the matchmaking logic to address situations like these.

Star Wars Battlefront II is set to launch November 17 across PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. However, those with special editions of the game, as well as those with an Origin Access or EA Access subscription, are already playing.

Star Wars Battlefront II Gameplay Shows How Ridiculously Powerful Boba Fett Is With High-Level Star Cards

While there’s been an awful lot of talk about Star Wars Battlefront II‘s “pay-to-win” microtransactions, there hasn’t been much gameplay demonstrating this fact. Up until now, at least.

YouTube user XfactorGaming has posted a video showing gameplay of Boba Fett without Star Cards equipped, followed by gameplay of the Hero with Star Cards equipped.

Before watching the footage and witnessing the difference Star Cards can make, take a look at the buffs XfactorGaming is using (as shown at the beginning of the video):

Intense Barrage

– Rocket Barrage fires 5 more rockets.

Anti-Hero Rockets

– Rocket Barrage deals 20 more damage to Heroes.

Fuel Efficiency

– Jetpack fuel burns 11% slower.

And now for the gameplay:

Looks pretty insane to me! What do you think?

Star Wars Battlefront II Metacritic User Reviews Being Bombarded With Lowest Score Possible

In news that’s not really surprising, the Star Wars Battlefront II Metacritic page has been bombarded with a flood of super low user score of 1/10 at the time of this writing.

As one can expect, it has all to do with the loot crates, microtransactions rather than the game itself, which isn’t surprising given how EA managed to nab the most downvoted Reddit post of all-time. Currently there are over 2,220 negative user reviews that paint Battlefront II at an “overwhelmingly dislike” rating.

The actual scores are at a decent 75, though a lot of reviews haven’t gone live yet. Here’s a screengrab of the negative reviews.

Users are rallying to give the game a bad review so people won’t buy the game and thus, EA’s predatory microtransactions scheme won’t work.

We’ll be posting our review of Star Wars Battlefront II once we’ve give ample time to everything the game has to offer and not before, and we’ll give it a fair shake, and will consider the loot crates as well.

Bear in mind though, given what DICE has said about progression, there is a chance players will experience something different from what reviewers have played, and if so, we’ll make sure to reflect that in our final verdict piece.

Star Wars Battlefront II Day One Patch for All Platforms Revealed

While Star Wars Battlefront II won’t officially be available until Friday, November 17, the Digital Deluxe edition will let people play early, and that means some gamers are already leveling up, and fighting the Dark Side right now.

Same as almost any game these days, a day one update for Star Wars Battlefront II has been rolled out by DICE! Check out details of it below.

Patch Size Details:
PC: 336.27MB
X1: 76.9MB
PS4: 140.9MB

Nothing specific has been released by DICE as to what this day one update does aside from bringing “a bit more polish” to the title.

While this is the day one update, don’t be surprised to see another one rolled out on Friday, as DICE has already mentioned that there will be “progression iterations” at launch. There;s going to be patches “every two weeks” as well, which I gather will tune the credits and progression system.

Stay tuned to our Star Wars Battlefront II review set to hit the site once we’ve poured in enough time with all the modes. In the meantime, keep an eye out for guides coming your way soon.

Call of Duty: WWII Hardpoint Spawn Guide

[tps_header]

Just yesterday, we posted a fantastic map breakdown of how spawns work in Call of Duty: WWII’s Domination. Well, JGOD_Gaming just made another one and this is for Hardpoint!

With permission, we’ve put in the entire map list and spawns in the gallery below, and even a video if you prefer to watch how it works.

The Areas Highlighted in Red are from the Hardpoint Spawns.

It took a lot of time to compile the data for the results, hopefully this post helps in understanding the Spawn System SHG has decided to go with.

Hardpoint is different to the TDM and Domination Spawns in so many ways, mainly the amount of map coverage and how often the spawns change.

Belgium Gaming Commission Investigating If Star Wars Battlefront II Loot Boxes Constitute as Gambling (Update)

Update:

On Nov. 16, EA sent out a statement to Gamespot commenting on the story, stating that loot boxes and the mechanics behind them “are not gambling.” You can view their full statement below.

Creating a fair and fun game experience is of critical importance to EA. The crate mechanics of Star Wars Battlefront II are not gambling. A player’s ability to succeed in the game is not dependent on purchasing crates. Players can also earn crates through playing the game and not spending any money at all. Once obtained, players are always guaranteed to receive content that can be used in game.

Original Story:

The Belgium Gaming Commission announced on Nov. 15 that the agency would be opening an investigation into EA’s Star Wars: Battlefront II and the loot boxes that are featured in the game to determine whether or not they constitue as gambling in the country.

As Belgian TV channel VTM reports(and translated by Creamium via ResetEra)

The gambling commission is investigating the new video game SW: Battlefront II. In this game, you can pay money for upgrades, only you don’t know what you’re getting beforehand. Overwatch, another popular game, is also being investigated.

[…]

The game features loot crates, which offer items but the contents are random. “Therein lies the problem”, says director of the gambling commission Peter Naessens to VTM news. “It depends on luck and at that point you’re gambling.”

The commission says this game poses a danger to minors, who are under (social) pressure to spend a lot of money on the game. That’s why they’re starting an investigation. “If we are dealing with a game of chance, they need to have a permit.”

In the worst case scenario, this could lead to fines of hundreds of thousands of euros. The game could also be removed from stores. EA, developer of the game, declined to comment.

The decision to investigate loot boxes as whether they are gambling tools disguised as optional features is not surprising, given that many players, promiment personalities such as Jim Sterling, and even licensed attorneys Ryan Morrison and Marc Whipple agree that loot boxes are gambling, and under U.S. law they could be deemed as such.

Star Wars Battlefront II Devs Getting Death Threats and Personal Attacks Due to Loot Crate Controversy (Update)

Update:

Thanks to Kotaku, we now know that this individual doesn’t even really work at EA! You can read the weird, and hilarious unfolding of events here

Sean, or whatever his name is has locked his Twitter profile, and have not replied to MP1st’s inquiries.

Death threats and personal attacks are still NOT OK, regardless of fakers such as this one.

Original Story:

Earlier today, we reported that EA achieved the dubious honor of having the most downvoted post in Reddit history with the explanation of Star Wars Battlefront II’sHero grind.” While EA has released a statement that a “progression iteration” is being worked on at launch, that hasn’t stopped the flood of internet hate to pour in.

There’s a good way to rant, and a bad way. A good way to protest is to boycott a game, tell the studio or publisher what they’re doing wrong and so on. The bad way? Sending death threats and personal attacks to developers. Unfortunately, the latter is happening now. People on social media, Reddit and so on, have attacked developers at EA for the Battlefront II loot crate fiasco. One developer, “BigSean66,” has received over seven death threats, and over 1600 personal attacks.

Look, I get it, games are important to some people. Heck, I wouldn’t have a job without ’em! But to attack people personally? That’s not something we’re OK with, nor will we ever condone. If you don’t like something, don’t buy it. There’s no reason to be personal about it ever.

Another thing to note is, developers can’t usually speak out against the publishers that employ them lest they want to get fired. Bear that in mind when devs don’t speak out, alright?

It’s OK to hate a game/product, but it’s never OK to personally attack someone or send death threats.
