Here’s How You Can Still Play Battlefield 2 & 2142 Online

It’s been a week since EA asked The Revive Network to stop supporting older Battlefield titles. In that time, TRN has disabled all file downloads and posted a “goodbye” letter. On November 17, all Revive servers will shut down. Fans who were eager to play Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 2142 now have to look elsewhere for their nostalgia trips.

Fortunately, Reddit user 0-You-0 has put together an FAQ which details different ways that players can access Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 2142 online. Here’s the relevant question and answer:

If the Revive servers shut down for Battlefield 2 and 2142, are there ways we can continue playing?

Absolutely. Go ahead and grieve about this whole Revive fiasco, but don’t despair: we have plenty of communities and other services sweeping in with the intentions of keeping Battlefield 2 and 2142 alive if the Revive servers go down. We have a fair amount of communities for Battlefield 2 as always, and both Gameranger and BF2Hub provide excellent alternatives for playing the game itself. Dethklok is spearheading action for keeping 2142 alive with its dedicated playerbase, and already has plans for what to do in case the Revive servers shut down. Links to various communities and game services will be provided below in the resources section. Note that as of writing this, this only includes the communities I could find that have in some way said they’ll be around post-Revive or are already present elsewhere. I strongly encourage others to post their own community and service links in the comments, I’ll probably edit them here in the post as well as I come along them.

Here’s a direct link to the Reddit thread. Check the comments for additional updated solutions.

Will you be battling on with Battlefield olden goldies? Let us know!

In other Battlefield news, the next game in the franchise has been heavily hinted at by EA, the Battlefield 1 community is now at over 23.5 million, and a Battlefield 1 free map has been announced

Call of Duty: WWII Down Now for PS4 , Error Codes Showing (Update)

Update #2 (11/5/2017):

If Google is sending you here, there’s an update on the Call of Duty: WWII PS4 servers being down right here.

Update:

It seems to be working for some, though not for everyone. If you can’t connect, let us know where you’re connecting from so we know which region has it back up and running.

Original Story:

After posting that Call of Duty: WWII is down for Xbox One users earlier, I assumed that PS4 gamers can log in and play without any issues given the Activision online services page says that the game is “online.”

Well, as it turns out, it can’t log in, either. I’ve asked around to make sure it’s not just me, and yep, Call of Duty: WWII is down worldwide for the PS4, too! Over on the COD: WWII subreddit, multiple threads have been started about the online component not working. And given the game’s online-centric approach, it seems loading Nazi Zombies or single-player is proving to be a challenge to some too.

As I’m typing this, I get the “The Call of Duty:WWII service is not available at this time. Please try again later or visit http://www.callofduty.com/wwii/status for updates” message with error code $65571. What’s odd is, some users have reportedly been able to get online, though  there’s no definite answer why or who’s affected. ResetEra forum users have posted in droves complaining about not being able to go online as well. Currently, there are no confirmation from the Activision Support Twitter or Sledgehammer Games

Once we hear of any updates, we’ll be sure to update this post. Speaking of, don’t be surprised if we see a title update soon to fix some of the technical issues the game has been suffering from since release.

You can check out our beginner’s guide while you’re waiting, or read up on what every Basic Training perk does here.

Hearthstone Kobolds & Catacombs Expansion Announced, Features 135 New Cards

The next Hearthstone expansion has been announced! It’s called “Kobolds & Catacombs” and the highlighted features include: new Spellstone cards, 135 added cards in total, nine new class-specific Legendary Weapons, and a free new single-player game mode called “Dungeon Runs.”

Here’s the official rundown of what the expansion will add to the game:

Pesky Kobolds have been tunneling beneath Azeroth for thousands of years, uncovering and hoarding artifacts long forgotten by mortals and surface dwellers . . . but whispers of these mighty treasures ripe for the taking have begun to spread throughout taverns far and wide. Some of the most alluring rumors speak of powerful Spellstones among the 135 cards included in Kobolds & Catacombs: enchanted items that you hold in your hand to empower before playing. Intrepid adventurers will also be able to arm themselves with one of nine new class-specific Legendary Weapons! Players will receive one free Legendary Weapon the first time they log in to Hearthstone after Kobolds & Catacombs has launched.

The bravest and most foolhardy adventurers will need all the help they can get as they delve into Hearthstone’s free new single-player game mode: Dungeon Runs! Coming with the launch of Kobolds & Catacombs, Dungeon Runs will send Hearthstone players on challenging, high-stakes subterranean adventures inspired by the classic fantasy dungeon crawl. Players start with a novice deck from their class of choice and face a series of progressively stronger foes, randomly selected from a huge pool of unique bosses. As they progress, they’ll bolster their decks with cards looted from defeated bosses, including some immensely powerful treasures exclusive to Dungeon Runs. Heroes should plunder with caution, however, because losing a single battle will spell the end of their Dungeon Run.

Kobolds & Catacombs has a launch window of sometime in December, but nothing concrete just yet. Price-wise, players can now pre-purchase new packs in a 50-pack bundle for a one-time price of $49.99. Those who pre-purchase will be granted a “sparkling, jewel-encrusted “For the Hoard!” card back for free.

Call of Duty: WWII Xbox One Servers Down, Activision Looking Into Issue (Update)

Update:

The Activision online services page now list the Xbox One version as “online,” so game on, soldiers!

Original Story:

If you’re an Xbox One gamer and can’t seem to connect to Call of Duty: WWII, don’t panic! It seems the entire world is having issues playing COD: WWII on Xbox One. Based on feedback from our own staff member Joel Santana, it is indeed happening now, and has been confirmed by the Activision online services page.

According to Activision Support page for online services, COD: WWII for PlayStation 4 and Windows are “online,” while the Xbox One is experiencing an “outage.” The official Activision Support Twitter also acknowledges the situation, though has not given an update on when it’ll be fixed.

https://twitter.com/ATVIAssist/status/926641737245720576

The tweet reads, “We are aware of issues with Xbox, and are closely monitoring, more details to come -” and links to the Xbox Support page that shows Call of Duty: WWII for Xbox One is on “Limited” game status.  No ETA has been given so far on when it’ll go back up, but once it does, we’ll be sure to let Xbox gamers know.

Unfortunately, servers aren’t the only issue affecting Call of Duty: WWII right now, as there’s a lobby glitch happening right now that I can confirm is happening on PS4. While you’re waiting for servers to go back up, go read on our quick tips guide for the multiplayer, or see which gun we deem is the best one in the game so far.

PSA: Call of Duty: WWII Lobby Glitch Is a Thing Happening to Everyone and Not Just You

Have you played Call of Duty: WWII yet? Did you finish a match and found out that you couldn’t leave or quit after? If so, don’t fret, you’re not the only one. Reddit users and even people on Activision’s forums have spoken out about it, and it seems to be happening to a lot of people.

Speaking from personal experience (playing on PS4), it seems to happen after a match of TDM or Domination. I’ve played multiple games of War mode just fine, but the moment I played TDM or Dom, it happens. I even tried switching PSN accounts just to check, and so far, no dice.

Here’s a video of it happening in real-time, which is most likely what you’ve experienced as well.

Once a match’s done, you’re then shown the recap screen where you won’t be able to quit or leave. It can’t be seen in the video, but I’ve tried pressing X multiple times to no avail until I was ushered in to the next match where I had to manually leave (and it might have even counted as a loss too). Unfortunately, once you’ve managed to do that, you’re then greeted by the loading screen of doom that goes nowhere. I tried waiting it out for 15 minutes until I decided to close the app via the PS4’s dashboard and try again.

We’re not sure if this is due to server overload, an in-game bug or something else. So far, the official Activision Support Twitter, nor Sledgehammer Games has issued an update on what’s causing it, or how to fix it. Once we find a fix, we’ll be sure to let our readers know ASAP.

Have you experienced this yourself? What other technical glitches have you encountered in Call of Duty: WWII so far? Let us know in the comments.

In other Call of Duty: WWII news, check out what we think is the best gun in the game so far. We also posted a beginner’s guide to help newbie players get their bearings.

Overwatch New Hero Moira Introduced, New Map Revealed

At BlizzCon, a few an Overwatch new hero and new map was announced by the studio! Blizzard is adding a new Overwatch hero,”Moira,” and according to Blizzard, she’s a “geneticist” though one that throws morals and ethics out the window. Check out details of her abilities and her reveal trailer below.

Role: Support (Difficulty to use 2/3 starts)

Moira’s biotic abilities enable her to contribute healing or damage in any crisis. While Biotic Grasp gives Moira short-range options, her Biotic Orbs contribute longer-range, hands-off damage and healing; she can also Fade to escape groups or remain close to allies in need of support. Once she’s charged Coalescence, Moira can save multiple allies from elimination at once or finish off weakened enemies.

Abilities:

BIOTIC GRASP

Using her left hand, Moira expends biotic energy to heal allies in front of her. Her right hand fires a long-range beam weapon that saps enemies’ health, healing Moira and replenishing her biotic energy.

BIOTIC ORB

Moira launches a rebounding biotic sphere; she can choose between a regeneration effect that heals the allies it passes through, or a decay effect that deals damage to enemies.

FADE

Moira quickly teleports a short distance.

COALESCENCE

Moira channels a long-range beam that both heals allies and bypasses barriers to damage her enemies.

If that wasn’t enough, a new map is on the way too! Prepare to fight in a Blizzard theme park called “Blizzard World!”

See your favorite gaming memories come to life in Overwatch’s new hybrid map as you attack and defend the payload across Azeroth, Tristram, the Koprulu Sector, and beyond!

Currently, there’s no set date on when Moira will become available, with the Blizzard World map set to come sometime in “early 2018.”

Thoughts on the new hero so far? She certainly seems to be inspired by Dragon Ball or maybe it’s just me? Her ultimate certainly reminds me of Ki blasts and energy wave battles in the anime.

Activision: Destiny 2 Ahead of Destiny 1 on “Consumer Spend,” Expansion Pack Attach Rate

While it seems Destiny 2 isn’t faring any better than Destiny 1 when it comes to overall unit sales, it seems the sequel is raking in more money overall according to Activision. During the publisher’s Q3 2017 earnings call, Activision exec Collister Johnson shared a few highlights regarding Destiny 2, and how it’s ahead of the first one in terms of expansion pack attach rates and more.

Destiny 2 is off to a strong start and after the PC launch is now ahead of Destiny 1 on total consumer spend, on time spent per player, attach rate to the expansion packs and average revenue per user. Destiny 2 also achieved a new high watermark in digital full game downloads at over 50% of console sell-through.

So not only are Destiny 2 players spending more time on the game compared to the first one, but they’re also spending more money too? Are you surprised by this revelation or not at all?

In other Destiny 2 news, go check out Xur’s wares this weekend, and speaking of DLC, there’s going to be a livestream of Destiny 2’s first DLC, Curse of Osiris happening soon, and you can check the schedule to make sure you catch it.

We’ve known about the Elgato 4K60 Pro for quite some time now. It’s exciting tech that will allow gamers to record 4K gameplay at 60fps. With the PS4 Pro, and soon the Xbox One X, releasing and making 4K console gameplay a reality, there’s been a surge in demand for a 4K60 compatible capture device.

If you’re into capturing gameplay and uploading it to the internet in the highest possible quality, the Elgato 4K60 Pro is probably already on your radar. Up until now, however, the price and release date have been mysteries.

Via press release, Elgato has revealed the MSRP of $399.95 and a release date of November 21. It’s now available to pre-order on the Elgato site and Amazon.

Call of Duty: WWII – The Best Gun in Multiplayer Revealed

While I’ve only squeezed in a few hours of Call of Duty: WWII multiplayer since yesterday, it seems I’ve found the “best gun” in the game so far. Note that this is subjective, but poking around the internet, it seems most people share the same sentiment: the FG-42 rifle is a beast weapon!

Why is it so powerful? It’s mostly due to being able to drop enemies at (almost) any range in three shots! Yep, you read that right! It’s a three-hit kill weapon that’s an automatic, has minimal recoil, decent iron sights, and the fire rate isn’t bad, either. There are a few drawbacks though, for one thing, it only has 20 bullets in each magazine, it reloads kinda slow, but that’s basically it.

Using the “Hustle” Basic Training perk will let you reload faster, or you can use it enough to unlock the extra magazine attachment, which should help its fairly limited bullet pool. Call of Duty YouTuber Drift0r even made a video about it, where he tested the range of the FG-42 and yep, it’s just damn powerful. If you have a permanent unlock token (which you can get by pre-ordering) you might want to use it since it can only be unlocked by reaching level 42.

Better use this now since I have a hunch Sledgehammer Games will nerf this gun hard very soon.

If you’ve used the FG-42, what are your thoughts on it? Which guns can outperform it? Share your feedback in the comments.
