Battlefield 4 Getting Community-Made Maps, New Winter Patch In The Works

Ever wanted to create your own Battlefield map? The team at DICE LA are giving fans the chance to do just that with a new Battlefield 4 initiative called the Community Map Project.

“We plan to release new [Battlefield 4] content in a slightly different way, always with our ear to the ground and enhancing the game based on your feedback,” wrote Creative Director Thomas Andersson in a recent blog update. “Expect game updates and tweaks, but also bigger content drops.”

The first of these drops is a Community Map developed side-by-side with Battlefield 4 fans. “Together with our development team, you will get to shape a playable map based on your input and expertise on what makes a fun multiplayer level, Andersson explained. “This map will then be tested and tweaked in the CTE (Community Test Environment), available for Battlefield 4 Premium members.”

The map will be released on all platforms, but before it makes its way to launch, developers at DICE LA will share behind-the-scenes details of the development process and will deploy weekly CTE updates for testing, so keep your eyes on the official CTE forums.

This March, the studio also plans to launch Battlefield 4’s “Winter Patch”, which Andersson says will focus on netcode and soldier collision. It will also make tweaks to Battlefield 4’s Squad Obliteration, making it “the lead competitive game mode” for the title.

“In case you haven’t had the chance to try it yourself yet, Squad Obliteration features two five-player teams fighting for possession of a bomb on the map. Your goal is to destroy two out of three enemy bases with these bombs to win,” says Andersson. “Our ambition with Squad Obliteration is to create something fast and challenging for the players and an entertaining experience for those who watch the matches.”

Check out the developer diary above for more details and be sure to keep your sights on MP1st for more Battlefield news.

Xbox One March Update Preview Is Here With Screenshots, Suggested Friends, and More

Xbox One Update Preview members now get to test run the latest system update due out for all users next month.

The Xbox One March Update adds yet another feature that’s been heavily requested by fans for some time now: Screenshots. Screenshots can be captured similar to the way game clips are and will be stored in the Upload app. The new update will also allow users to set any screenshot as a custom background and, eventually, share them via social media.

Other improvements include tweaks to the Friends app and how your full name is shared with others. It also allows users to fine tune tile transparency settings and privacy & online safety settings. Australian users will appreciate a few new OneGuide and TV updates as well.

Have a look at the video overview above and the specifics below, courtesy of Xbox Wire.

Screenshots

New in preview is a highly requested feature by our community from the Xbox feedback site. While playing a game, you can now take screenshots on your Xbox One console by simply double-tapping the Xbox button on your controller to capture a screenshot and pressing Y to save the screenshot. You can also say “Xbox Take a Screenshot” to take and save a screenshot.

The Upload app is being updated so that you can manage your screenshots in addition to your game clips. You can use a screenshot as your background, by viewing the screenshot in full-screen mode from the Upload app, then, press the Menu button and select Set as background. In coming preview builds, you will be able to use Upload to share screenshots to your activity feed, attach to messages, add screenshots to your showcase, and eventually share to Twitter. Also, your screenshots will be visible in your profile alongside your game clips. In the initial preview build, the sharing functions are not yet enabled, but you can start capturing screenshots and using them for your backgrounds.

Suggested friends

With the suggested friends feature, the Friends area in home and your friends list will help you find and add friends. Suggested friends will include people you might know, so you add more friends to game with, and top community broadcasters and clip creators, so you can get more great content in your activity feed. We’re also adding a new suggested friends page to the Friends area.

Sharing your name

This month in preview, we’re rolling out two new ways to share your real name; with all of your friends or to everyone in the Xbox Live community. You can also continue to share your real name with select friends, or with no one, if that’s what you prefer. Gamertags are still the primary method of identifying yourself on Xbox Live, but sharing your real name helps people recognize you who might not know you by your gamertag. The new name sharing options can be found under Friends > My profile > Name sharing settings.

Tile transparency

We continue to listen to your feedback and are adding a setting to enable you to vary the level of transparency for your background images, go to Settings > My Xbox > Tile transparency.

Privacy and online safety settings

We added a new setting for sharing voice search data to create an option for you to allow collection and analysis of voice data when using Xbox – Bing to search. You can go to Settings > Privacy and online safety > Share voice search data to change the setting.

Report spam

The Messages app has an added option to allow you to notify Xbox when you receive spam. You can now select a specific message, press the A button and then select Report > Spam to report a specific message as spam.

OneGuide for Australia

Support for OneGuide will continue in preview in Australia for free-to-air TV listings.

Xbox One Digital TV Tuner in Australia

Xbox One owners in Australia with an Xbox Digital TV Tuner can now use it with the preview builds of this month’s release.

Next Halo: MCC Update Nearing Completion, More Details On Halo 2 Anniversary Relic Remake

Halo fans continue to wait anxiously for Halo: The Master Chief Collection‘s “biggest” update yet, and while developer 343 Industries has yet to nail down a release date, the studio is nearing completion.

We’re happy with the progress on the next CU, with significant progress being made on big and small issues, and we’re being diligent in gameplay and stress testing to ensure that it is a meaningful update,” Community Manager Andy “Bravo” Dudynsky wrote in a recent blog update.

“While we haven’t yet locked an exact release date of this CU, the work is in its final stages of testing and bug squashing is well underway,” he added. “The next time we communicate regarding the status of the upcoming CU, we will provide a definitive timeframe for its availability.”

As an update to last week’s playlist update, Dudynsky also explained the absence of Halo 3 variants of SWAT and Team Snipers, saying that “this is due to a Halo 3-specific issue regarding non-default map variants that we’re working to fix. Once resolved, custom map variants (tournament maps, maps with specific on-map weapons, Forge maps, etc.) will be included into permanent and featured playlists.”

In the final point of this week’s update, Dudynksy revealed a new piece of concept art by Lead Concept Artist Michael Pedro for the upcoming Halo 2 Anniversary Relic remake being offered to gamers affected by The Master Chief Collection’s launch issues.

Halo

Elaborating on some of the map’s new thematic updates, the studio shared some of its goals with fans.

  • The mysterious weathered Forerunner architecture has been updated to reflect the aesthetic depicted in Halo 2 Anniversary.”
  • The mood and drama of the environment has been increased significantly; thick cloud cover dots the island terrain with dapples of cool shadow, while ominous thunderheads loom on the horizon.
  • The island itself is revealed to be an underwater landmass of sand, rock, and coral that has been recently exposed by significant tidal changes.
  • The UNSC have built a modular research platform atop the remains of the Forerunners’ ancient monument.

The new version of Relic is due to enter Halo 2 Anniversary playlists sometime this Spring, along with an offering of a remastered Halo 3: ODST campaign.

Keep your sights locked on MP1st for more Halo updates.

New Battlefield Hardline Gameplay Reveals New Maps, Rescue Mode, and Dinosaurs… Sort Of

New Battlefield Hardline gameplay surfaces today, courtesy of a handful of Battlefield YouTube personalities that attended an early hands-on session with the game at EA.

The brand spankin’ new footage offers a look at two previously unseen maps — Riptide and Derailed — and debuts Hardline’s competitive 5 vs. 5 game mode, Rescue, that was advertised earlier last year at Gamescom.

What’s most intriguing, however, is that you’ll also notice new player masks for both the cops and criminals factions. These come in either the dinosaur of wolf variety, a nod to the Battlefield community’s playful obsession with dinosaurs, and replace an item in your soldier’s gadget slot. What Visceral is keeping close to the chest here is how to unlock them, so you’ll have to figure that out for yourself when Hardline launches on March 17.

Have a look at the new footage below and be sure to leave your thoughts in the comment section.

NetherRealm Confirms No Mortal Kombat X Demo, Mileena Up For Possible Reveal This Month

After a pretty informative week for Mortal Kombat X fans thanks to the last Kombat Kast stream with NetherRealm Studio, it appears that some of the developers are opening up to talking about certain details for their upcoming fighter as its release date is draws very near.

Now, we’ve learned that Mortal Kombat X will not receive a playable demo before the game release, according to co-creator Ed Boon. It’s unfortunate, as NetherRealm’s previous titles have had playable demos weeks before launch. It’s not all bad, however, as they will use the time instead to further polish the game, according to executive producer Shaun Himmerick.

Himmerick also revealed over the weekend that, if everything goes well with the current trailer that’s being worked on, fans of MKX can expect a reveal of the next character and then some before the month is over. Said video may also offer a hint as to who we can expect to be the final boss for Mortal Kombat X.

Gathering some of the hints from the previous Kombat Kast stream, it looks as though Mileena may be the next fighter to be revealed. Derek Kirtzic, one of the two developers who showcase Mortal Kombat X during the Kombat Kast streams, hinted that he will be using his favorite character in the next one, which happens to be none other than Mileena. We already know she will be in the game as we’ve seen hints of her during their Faction Wars trailer.

Speaking of the Kombat Kast streams, it looks like the next one will happen sometime this month, according to Tyler Lansdown. From the looks of his tweets, it doesn’t sound like fans will get to see what the “punchwalk” craze with Goro is all about, as Lansdown confirmed Goro won’t make an appearance in the upcoming stream.

Additionally, for those who are interested in Mortal Kombat X’s Faction Wars, it should be noted that if you plan to leave your faction and decide at a later time before the faction war is over to rejoin it, any experience points that you accumulated before leaving will be lost. So, choose your factions wisely.

Mortal Kombat X is set to release on April 14 for the PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One platforms.

Rumor – Battlefield Hardline Will Only Have Three Multiplayer Achievements

Multiplayer Trophy and Achievement enthusiasts out there might be a bit disappointed with Battlefield Hardline‘s list of multiplayer feats to complete if this bunch of rumored Xbox Achievements are true.

According to Xbox Achievements, Battlefield: Hardline is looking to come with 40 achievements on the Xbox One (and will most likely be the same for other platforms) for an overall amount of 1000 Gamerscore. But only three of the 40 achievements are for the multiplayer, the rest are, surprisingly, for the single player only.

The achievements in question are:

  • The Big Score
    • Win 5 Heist and 5 Blood Money matches in multiplayer
  • Electric Company
    • Take down 25 enemies with the T62 CEW in multiplayer
  • Menz In Hoods
    • Kill 25 enemies with a MAC-10 and 25 with a Double-Barrel Shotgun in multiplayer

While this is a rumor, and you should take it with a grain of salt, it’s still a bit of a shell shock to see Visceral’s new spin-off Battlefield game only come with three achievements for the multiplayer aspect of the game.

If you’d like to see the full list of achievements for Hardline, as rumored, click here.

COD: Advanced Warfare – Double XP Gun Game, One Shot Mosh Pit, and New Gear Drops Arrive For The Weekend

Developer Sledgehammer Games is giving Call of Duty fans a ton of stuff to do this weekend with the introduction of new modes and new gear to earn.

As promised, the classic and fan-favorite game mode Gun Game is now here to stay, and to celebrate its arrival, Sledgehammer is offering gamers double XP through 9AM PST Friday 13 to to 9AM PST Monday 16, exclusive to that playlist. The Free For All mode starts players out with the ASM1 and challenges them to rank up through 26 weapons by scoring kills. The final, winning kill with the Crossbow ends the match.

In addition, the sniper-only One Shot Mosh Pit playlist also makes a return, but this time without the double XP boost. It will, however, include additional game modes this time around, including Free For All, Domination, Hardpoint, Team Deathmatch, and Kill Confirmed.

Throughout the weekend, between 9AM PST Friday 13 and 9AM PST Monday 16, anyone with at least one Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare multiplayer match under their belt will be awarded a new Exo from the brand new Marine Grenadier gear set, pictured below. Additional items in the set can be earned via loot drops from Supply Crates, says Sledgehammer.

Sounds like a fun weekend packed with stuff to do, XP to earn, and new gear to find. We’ll see you online.

Mortal Kombat X Kitana and Reptile Highlights From Latest Stream, Next Stream To Be ‘Brutal’

With the latest Kombat Kast now concluded, Kitana and Reptile fans have something to rejoice over. For the first time since their initial reveals back in January, NetherRealm Studios is ready to talk about both characters and go into great details for both of their variations and more.

But before I actually get into the variants for each characters, Jade has now been officially de-confirmed as a playable character during the Kombat Kast stream. Now, with that out of the way here’s everything you need to know about Kitana and Reptile’s variations.

Kitana

  • Assassin – More rush down orientated. Able to sharpen her knives to deal more damage with any fan based attacks and gains the ability to parry melee attack.
  • Royal Storm – More zoning tools such as her fan lift, reaching full screen and being able to deflect projectile attacks back.
  • Mournful – Uses Jade’s Glaive and Staff special attacks.

Reptile

  • Deceptive – Gains various levels of invisibility, depending how long you hold the button down for.
  • Noxious – Covers Reptile in a aura similar to Solomon Grundy from Injustice: Gods Among Us that deals damage over time if the opponent gets too close. A meter burn version deals even further damage.
  • Nimble – Reptile is now able to slow down his opponents much like Flash’s trait from Injustice: Gods Among Us. Can create some interesting combos.

Elsewhere during the stream, NetherRealm Studios revealed some pretty interesting concept art for both characters that you can check out on their Tumblr page. You’ll also find alternative costumes for Kitana and Reptile. It appears that Reptile will be using his MKX comic book tie-in as an alternative costume.

Outside from that a new level called “Cross Roads” was also showcased, which seems to take place in the Nether Realm judging from the environment, and and pictures a pretty neat structure that’s associated with a ‘certain’ fallen elder god.

Before the stream officially concluded, Tyler Lansdown, community specialist for NetherRealm Studios, hinted that the next Kombat Kast stream would will a bit “brutal”. Seeing how brutalities have been recently confirmed to be in the game, there’s a good chance that we will finally see them in the next stream, which is said to happen “very soon”.

It also appears that a new character will be unveiled in the next stream, which may be none other than Goro who finally showed up in the character selection screen for the first time since he was officially revealed as a pre-order bonus back in September.

Speaking of additional content, Shaun Himmerick, executive producer for MKX, also revealed that the game will be receiving the first of five costume packs as soon as the game launches.

Finally, you can catch a few video highlights of the stream below, including new intros and Fatalities for Kitana and Reptile, courtesy of GamesHQMedia and Maximilian Dood.

Destiny’s February Update Will Make It Easier To Check Reputation Standings

In addition to fixing the infamous Heavy Ammo Bug and re-tuning many of Destiny’s primary and secondary weapons, the game’s next major update, still on course for a late-February launch on all platforms, will also include a few ‘quality of life’ improvements to look forward to.

Above is a new UI concept that Bungie User Interface Design Lead, David Candland, says will allow players to check up on their reputation standings with various factions in the game without having to travel to the Tower.

“We’ve created a way for you to see your faction reputations and weekly marks without having to run from vendor to vendor in the Tower. Now this information is never more than two clicks away,” he explains.

“We’re working on a lot of new features. This one is being included in 1.1.1 because it had a very low impact on our Test team. We’ve known we’ve wanted this feature since we donned our first piece of faction class gear, and the community has too. It was a no-brainer.”

“Where do you put it, and how much information do you include? Since reputation really affects your buying power, it made sense to put it in close proximity to your currencies. The inventory screen real estate is pretty full, so using the fly-out convention we established in the settings screen was a way to recoup some space, yet still allow tooltips for another layer of detail.”

A small but neat addition that has been a request from the community for quite some time now. Look for it in Destiny Update 1.1.1, due out later this month, and keep your sights on MP1st for more Destiny news.

Star Wars Battlefront Rumors – 64-Player Multiplayer Battles With “Hero” System, Tied To ‘The Force Awakens’ Film

Rumors surrounding DICE’s highly anticipated Star Wars shooter, Battlefront, are beginning to surface while fans anxiously await official details from EA later this Spring.

Fan site Making Star Wars, who’ve proved reliable with previous movie leaks in the past, have published a list of rumors surrounded the shooter’s multiplayer modes, single player campaign, setting, and how the game might tie in to the film launching shortly after, Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

We can’t verify any of the following, so do take it with a teaspoon or two of salt.

According to the details from an “insider”, Star Wars Battlefront will span the original Star Wars trilogy, battles in The Clone Wars and Revenge of the Sith, and will even touch on moments that take place before or during the opening segments of The Force Awakens. As in previous Battlefront titles, user will experience both sides of the war, playing as the Rebel Alliance, Republic, Separatists, and Empire in a single player campaign considered to be longer than usual.

Characters and ships, including the new X-Wing and Tie Fighter models, that appear in The Force will be playable in Battlefront with more being added in an ‘aggressive’ DLC season, said to offer five different themed expansions, each with three new locations, a new ‘hero’, and new vehicles.

Hero’s are powerful characters in the Star Wars universe than can be called to aid in any multiplayer match once a user has accumulated enough points through regular play. As in previous titles, they’ll carry special abilities otherwise not available to the standard soldier. Multiplayer matches are said to host 64 players, as in the Battlefield series, and will boast space to land battles, but only in certain game modes.

Environments include familiar locations like Hoth, Endor, Alderaan, Coruscant, Yavin, and Tatooine.

The details sound exciting and true to the proper Battlefront experience, but, again, cannot be confirmed. So, speculate away!

Star Wars Battlefront will launch this Holiday, before the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Thanks, VG247.

Mortal Kombat X’s Kombat Pass Will Include 4 Playable Characters And 5 Skin Packs, Says Executive Producer

As we previously mentioned, Executive Producer on Mortal Kombat X, Shaun Himmerick, hinted that we will be seeing more alternative costumes than Mortal Kombat 9 for their upcoming title.

Revealing the contents of MKX’s Kombat Pack season pass, he now states that it will, in fact, include “4 full characters and 5 skin packs,” equaling 15 skins in total.

If NetherRealm Studios’ previous season passes for Mortal Kombat 9 and Injustice: Gods Among Us is anything to go by, it looks like we’ll be getting three fan-favorites and an ‘iconic’ guest character to be added to the roster.

Unfortunately, this may also mean that your favorite Mortal Kombat X character may not be getting a third alternative costume, as the game is set to have nearly 30 playable characters. Of course the 15 costumes included in the Kombat Pass may not be the final number if NetherRealm Studios’ history is anything to go by. They do tend to release additional costumes at no additional charge with compatibility packs with DLC releases.

Himmerick also stated that the skin packs will include “a mix of number of things”, which hopefully means that we will get some retro costumes for the series’ fan-favorite characters.

Mortal Kombat X is set to launch on April 14, for the PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One platforms. However, if you can’t wait that long to get your MKX fix, be sure to tune into the Kombat Kast stream later today which will showcase Kitana and Reptile for the first time.

Multiplayer Is In For Next Mass Effect Game With ‘Connected Experiences’ and ‘Online Features’

Though it was confirmed at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con that co-operative multiplayer was in for BioWare’s next Mass Effect game, a new job listing at the studio now also hints at “connected experiences” and other “online features”.

An ad for BioWare’s “Online Producer – Mass Effect” role asks candidates to “Create and champion the vision of the multi-player, connected experiences and online features of the game which respects the project leadership goals and be accountable for the quality targets and the results achieved.”

As senior development director on the title Chris Wynn puts it, “Things are getting real…”

Mass Effect 3 was the first to introduce cooperative multiplayer to the series, pitting four characters, each of different classes and races, against waves of human, Geth, or Reaper enemies in varying locations. Rounds consisted of rotating objectives, concluding with a difficult extraction attempt upon defeating the final wave. We quite enjoyed it and would love to see something like it return in BioWare’s next title set in the Mass Effect universe.

The next Mass Effect will boast a new story and a fresh batch of characters and will be built on DICE and EA’s Frostbite engine. It was first shown at E3 2014 and will likely have a much greater presence at this year’s expo.

Mortal Kombat X Will Contain More Alternative Costumes Than Previous Titles, PC Version To Be Ported By High Voltage Studios

Those who love to make their kombatants stick out from the crowd with alternative costumes earned from in-game unlocks or through post-release content are going to pretty happy with NetherRealm Studios’ upcoming plans with Mortal Kombat X.

According to Shaun Himmerick, the executive producer for MKX, fans can expect a larger amount of alternative costumes for Mortal Kombat X than any other Mortal Kombat title to-date. This may also be the reason as to why the Kombat Pack for Mortal Kombat X is retailing for $29.99 USD, according to Steam, as the Kombat Pack is set to include themed character packs.

It should be noted that even though Mortal Kombat X will feature more alternative costumes than its predecessors, it will not contain more costumes than NetherRealm Studios’ DC-based fighter, Injustice: Gods Among Us, which released over 40 alternative costumes during the game’s lifespan.

As for the PC version of Mortal Kombat X, it appears that the studio who will be responsible for porting the game to mouse and keyboard is none other than High Voltage Studio, who are also tasked with porting the game to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms.

Finally, get ready for a pre-Valentine’s day massacre. This Thursday, NetherRealm Studios will be holding a new Kombat Kast stream to finally showcase both Kitana and Reptile for the first time.

However, thanks to PlayStationTrophies, we know a little bit more about Kitana ahead of time, specifically, her other two variations besides Mournful:

  • Assassin: Focuses on rushing down your opponents.
  • Royal Storm: Focuses on her fans and zoning.

Mortal Kombat X will be available on April 14, for the PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One platforms.

Watch Treyarch Studio Head Tell The Story Of Call of Duty Zombies

“I like to joke that [Call of Duty] Zombies was just all heart, and it was probably also no brains,” were some of the words Treyarch Studio Head Mark Lamia used to open his presentation at this year’s D.I.C.E. Summit.

“Because it’s probably a set up for how not to manage a project — certainly how not to manage a major franchise. And when you really think about it, Call of Duty Zombies shouldn’t exist.”

In the rest of his presentation, Lamia told the story of Call of Duty Zombies, Treyarch’s now ultra-popular Zombie survival game mode that was nearly completely scrapped in Call of Duty: World of War. He offers a heart-to-heart, down-to-earth talk about how it nearly “fucked up” the game’s development, but ultimately went on to help the studio find its own identity and continue to build upon its success with Black Ops and Black Ops 2.

His presentation is now available to watch in full on Variety’s official YouTube channel which you can catch above. We recommend checking it out, as it’s a must-see for any Call of Duty fan interested in the how-to of the series’ development.

Treyarch is now preparing to launch this year’s Call of Duty title, which was officially confirmed to be in development last week. Though its official title is still unannounced, Activision says it will be will be “loaded with innovation” and will be the first release for the studio on the franchise’s new three-year development cycle.
