Sony Working Hard to Get PS5 Into the “Right Hands,” Frustrated That Bots & Resellers Getting Units

It’s no secret that wherever you are in the world, it’s still hard to snag a PS5 unless you resort to scalpers and resellers. While this is frustrating for a lot of gamers, Sony is frustrated as well.

In an interview, PlayStation head honcho Jim Ryan mentioned that he is “frustrated” and “upset” at this, especially when resellers and bots get their hands on units. In the same chat, Ryan mentioned how they are pushing hard for retailers to make sure PS5 units get into “the right hands” as well.

This really frustrates me and upsets me, especially when resellers and bots manage to get their hands on stock…Sony is “working incredibly hard” with retail partners to get PS5s into “the right hands

Ryan points to the company’s own distribution service PlayStation Direct, which helps curb scalpers from getting multiple units, though there are ways to go around that, it is a step in the right direction.

Hopefully, this means that gamers will soon be able to get their hands on PS5 units directly from retailers soon.

Go check out the interview right here, where Ryan also talks about the PS5’s sizzling start to this generation, and more.

Battlefield 2042 Will See Return of “Passive Spotting” Similar to BF5, & More Details Revealed

With DICE finally revealing Battlefield 2042 to the world, there’s a ot of info to sink our teeth into, but still a lot of questions remain unanswered. For those wondering whether the “spotting system” will return in Battlefield 2042, the answer is yes, though in a much different way than players are accustomed to.

In a video by jackfrags who attended a behind the scenes event, he confirms that “passive spotting” like the one in Battlefield 5 will be back! It won’t be your usual spotting system which a lot of Battlefield veterans are used to, which some might be hoping was the case (like me!).

Here’s an explanation of it by Reddit user MartianGeneral in case you’re not familiar with how spotting worked in Battlefield 5.

  • Passive spotting from the current iteration of BFV returns. When aiming at an enemy from close distance, a red icon shows up over their head with a health bar class icon and distance from the enemy. Seems to activate at around 10-20m. Jack spotted Assault and Engineer class icons in the gameplay

Another thing confirmed by jackfrags is how the weather we see in the trailer will affect the entire map, and not just one specific area. So it’ll be similar to Paracel Storm’s weather changes where it obscures the vision of everyone, rather than just one area.

Here’s the rest of the video summary of confirmed info (some are speculation).

  • There’s a compass that shows up in the bottom of your screen when you aim down sight. No confirmation whether there’s an option to keep it enabled at all times.
  • Enemy soldiers appear slightly darker than the friendlies.
  • Casper’s trait gives you an indicator when an enemy approaches you. So if the enemy pops up from the left, you’ll get a pulsing red indicator towards the left of your screen.
  • Weather events seem to affect the vibe of the entire map rather than just a specific section. If a tornado rolls in, the entire map goes dark (similar to Paracel Storm)
  • Maria the medic seems to have 6 shots of her syrette pistol with 6 more in reserve. The pistol itself has an in-built ammo counter
  • Objective icons and ticket counts (on top of screen in BFV) have been moved near the minimap similar to BF3/4. When you’re on an objective, the HUD shows how many friendlies and enemies are on the objective.
  • Plus system works similar to Crysis. No animations, no delays, you can quickly swap 4 attachments. :/
  • The ‘N’ symbol you see on soldiers in the trailer stands for ‘No-Pats’ and they’re only visible on specialists. Default grunts are likely AI soldiers. Green=US Grey/Black = Russia

Don’t forget, the gameplay reveal is set to take place this weekend on June 13! We’ll have a ton more info to report then. You can watch jackfrags’ video below.

Far Cry Anime and Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix Coming to Netflix

Fans of the Far Cry series as well as retro and nostalgic animation goodness are going to get some animated goodness coming their way, as a Far Cry anime and Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix are coming to Netflix soon as both projects were revealed during the streamer’s Geeked Week digital event!

As a joint project between Netflix and Ubisoft, here are the details on both upcoming shows are reported by Entertainment Weekly.

The “Far Cry” series is based on the first-person shooter game franchise of the same name, with each game revolving around the main character working against a fearsome dictator that controls a particular island or isolated region. The first game was released in 2004 and has sold more than 60 million units to date. “Far Cry 6,” featuring Giancarlo Esposito as the main antagonist, due to be released in October.

The creative team for the series is still being assembled, but it will be produced by Ubisoft’s Hélène Juguet, Hugo Revon, and Gérard Guillemot.

“Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix” has been given a six episode order. The series, itself based on “Far Cry 3” expansion “Blood Dragon,” is an original anime featuring alter egos of Ubisoft characters in a highly-referenced homage to the early 80s. It was first announced as being in development in 2019 but no network or streaming service was attached at the time.

Adi Shankar is the creator and executive producer with Juguet, Revon, and Guillemot once again producing. Bobbypills is the production studio.

While Far Cry and Captain Laserhawk get animated show treatments, Ubisoft is busy preparing for Far Cry 6, which launches this October and more details about the game have been revealed which you can read here.

Resident Evil Live Action Series Reveals Cast Photo, Lance Reddick is Albert Wesker

One of Capcom’s best-selling video game franchises is getting a very different live action TV series adaptation to its name, as the upcoming Resident Evil live action series reveals its first cast photo — as well as announcing that John Wick films star Lance Reddick is Albert Wesker!

Resident Evil Live Action

As a departure from the video game series it is based on, Reddick will be the first person of color to play the franchise’s most iconic villain — who was originally portrayed as a blonde haired white man in the games. Joining the American actor in the cast photo are Ella Balinska , Tamara Smart, Siena Agudong, Adeline Rudolph, and Paola Núñez — whose roles have not been specified yet but will come as production is currently underway for the series.

While details are scarce and limited for what the RE live action series is about, what has been revealed is that the story will take place over two timelines — focusing on the Wesker children as well as the Umbrella Corporation’s experiments and research on the T-Virus coming to play that leads to devastating consequences for humanity.

While the Resident Evil live-action series is still in the works, the CG animated series Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness will premiere on Netflix on July 8.

Necromunda Hired Gun Review – Doom Lite

It’s time once more to venture off into the universe of Warhammer 40K! This time visiting the harsh, industrial planet known as Necromunda. With danger lurking around every corner, it takes a strong, resilient kind of person to want to be on this hell hole. Who better than a money lusting bounty hunter? But the question is: does it pay off, or is it a waste of money to hire this gun? Read on for our Necromunda Hired Gun review!

The Hive Factory

Anyone familiar with the Warhammer 40K lore, will no doubt appreciate the art design in Necromunda Hired Gun. Being a planet that was founded over 15,000 years ago with the sole purpose of mining and manufacturing weapons, Necromunda levels are all highlighted by it’s wealth of polluted factories that stretch forever on.

Granted, it’s not the prettiest looking place, but the diversity of machine-ran locations is well suited and fits right in with the source material. It is hellish, perfectly portraying the grim history of the world to it’s fullest. There’s a lot to be told just from looking at the places you go in Necromunda. Unfortunately, those tales are never told and you are instead given something that barely passes as a story.

As the name suggests, you play a nameless bounty hunter who gets hired to track down some baddies causing havoc on Necromunda. There is a bigger beat to the plot, though sadly it feels muddled in it’s very uninteresting characters and dialogue. By the time I finished the game, it was hard to understand what the reasoning was behind the whole story, especially since the pacing of it all felt rather rushed, just constantly pushing characters to the next segment.

And while I loved the overall art design that all the levels encase, Necromunda is still a pretty ugly game, plagued with performance issues, at least on the PS4. From the very get-go, I could tell that there was something wrong with the general picture quality as everything looked muddy and low textured. I would best describe it as someone smearing Vaseline on random parts of the screen. Here’s an actual image I took from the PlayStation version.

I’m not usually taken back by games that look dated, but something about the textures in Necromunda is super off putting, especially with how inconsistent it is. In one instance it looks super detailed, while in another you just have to stop and wonder what the hell is going on. Upon my first encounters against one of the game’s elite enemy I couldn’t help but chuckle at how bad they looked, almost something ripped right out of a PS2 era game. The performance only made things worse.

Playing on the PS4, nearly every fire fight I had gotten into saw some major dips and hitches. Couple that with the very janky takedown animations, clipping, and other graphical bugs and we had one very vomit inducing experience. The PC version is far more optimized, but that isn’t an excuse to short end console players.

Necromunda Is Eternal

All isn’t bad though as when the game finally does decide it wants to run smoothly, it’s actually a blast to play. Taking huge cues from many ’90s shooters, more specifically Doom, Necromunda Hired Gun makes you feel like the slayer himself. Guns all have big impact, leaving enemies in a huge puddle of gore. The game even has the same kind of brutal takedowns as Doom, though they do feel a bit lacking in comparison.

Other cool mechanics such as double jumping, grappling, and wall-running, feel like fun additions that gives you a decent amount of freedom to wreak havoc in these small, linear arena style levels. Further upgrading your stats and your dog companion makes fights even more satisfying.

It’s all super fast paced to, and calling it “Doom Lite” wouldn’t be wrong at all.

However, I do want to point out that the AIs are dumb as bricks, often encountering them in standing still position, waiting to be killed. Even hilariously, they would just run up in a line, letting me one hit kill them. I couldn’t help but think about that parody video where a guy is slapping everyone.

I would suggest playing the game with the difficulty cranked all the way up since it does provide more of a challenge, though the before mentioned issues are still present.

As for replayability, these come in the form of bite sized side missions mostly revolving around killing X amount of enemies. They’re short, but they do play greatly to the strength of Hired Gun by throwing you directly into the action. A fun way to kill time, especially if you are looking to unlock upgrades in quick way.

Verdict

Necromunda Hired Gun has a wonderful setting that every 40K fan will undoubtedly adore. But outside of that, unless you are a really hardcore 40K fan, Hired Gun is a really tough sell, at least on console. Too many performance issues, followed with bugs and inconsistent textures make this one experience you may want to skip on, which sadly is a bummer, because the gameplay itself is rather quite fun when it works. You’ll likely find the PC version is be far superior, but for you console players out there I would highly suggest you wait for a substantial performance and bug patch to come out. There is fun to be had, but until it gets fixed, the issues outweigh the benefits.

Score: 6/10

Pros

  • If you want Necromunda, you got it. The art design perfectly captures this grim, cold hellish world.
  • When it works, the core gameplay is very fun, very Doom-like.
  • Side missions are short and fun.

Cons

  • Forgettable story riddled with poor, rushed pacing.
  • Major frame-rate drops.
  • Lots of visual bugs, with low textures that are extremely muddy looking.
  • Animations are very rough.

Castlevania Netflix Spinoff Series Announced, Will Center on Richter Belmont and Maria Renard

Prepare to travel to the late 18th century and join a new generation of vampire hunters and heroes, as the upcoming Castlevania Netflix spinoff series has been announced, and will center on Richter Belmont and Maria Renard — adapting the events of the game Rondo of Blood!

Here’s the tweet announcing the exciting news to Castlevania fans, and Samuel Deats has corrected Netflix that Richter is the great great great great grandson of Trevor and Sypha!

Announced during Netflix’s Geeked Week digital event by the Castlevania series showrunners that include Samuel and Adam Deats, the new series will pick up many many years after the events of season 4 — with Richter being the descendant of Trevor Belmont and Sypha Belnades in this adaptation of the 1993 side-scrolling adventure game that was originally released for the PC Engine Super CD-ROM system in 1993.

While the story and premise of this spin-off isn’t fully revealed yet, what has been revealed is that it’s set in 1792 and in France during the events of the French Revolution. As this is Netflix’s take on the Castlevania series they have free reign to tell this story, and it will be interesting to see how they adapt Richter and Maria and how it relates to the plot of the game it’s based on — and if this will lead into the events of Symphony of the Night with Alucard as that critically acclaimed game was a direct sequel to Rondo of Blood!

Castlevania Season 4 was the final season of the show and is now streaming on Netflix. The release date for this spinoff has not been given, so stay tuned for more updates.

Battlefield 2042 Steelbook Case Exclusive Case From GameStop Revealed, New Screenshot Out

While EA has already revealed the pre-order bonus and different editions Battlefield 2042 is going to be released in come October, there’s also another variant out, and this one features the Battlefield 2042 steelbook case, which is exclusive to mega-retailer, GameStop.

Those who pre-order the game on GameStop, you’ll get the exclusive steelbook case shown below, and nope, it’s not available for digital game buyers.

In addition to the steelbook, the official Xbox Store listing for Battlefield 2042 has also revealed a new screenshot as well! It looks to be the Kaleidoscope map which is based in Singapore, and features a haze of what I assume is tied to the map’s gameplay-altering feature:

In other Battlefield 2042 news, don’t forget to check out the breakdown and trailer analysis we ran a few days ago, and the game will feature a level editor it seems as well.

Battlefield 2042 will be released on October 22 on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
