Overwatch New Hero “Echo” Coming Soon, Story Trailer Released

Those looking for something new in Overwatch, you’re about to get it! Blizzard Entertainment has released the story trailer for an Overwatch new hero named “Echo.” Check the video below.

Introducing Echo. An evolutionary robot programmed with a rapidly adapting artificial intelligence, Echo represents the cutting edge of technology.

The video doesn’t really say what kind of hero class she’ll (it?) be, but I’m guessing the community wouldn’t say no to a new support hero rather than another stunner again. No firm release date has been announced for the new hero’s arrival other than “Coming Soon,” but expect a patch when the character is finally available.

Of course, we’ll probably going to see the new hero tested in the PTR first, which means we’ll get a good sampling of her skills, attacks and more.

What are you hoping to see from Echo? Personally, I’m hoping we get something close to Lucio or something as versatile, but that’s just me.

World War Z Next Update Hitting Monday, Brings Crossplay

Zombe hunters, the moment you’ve been waiting for is here! Crossplay is coming to World War Z next week! In addition to that, the World War Z next update will also bring a new set of character skins DLC as well.

https://twitter.com/wwzthegame/status/1240314522285547525

As you can see, the next title update for World War Z is hitting on March 23, which is a Monday, and will bring in the War Heroes character skin pack. Of course, other than those, this update should bring in a new round of gameplay improvements and tech fixes.

In case you didn’t know, there was a difficult spike that happened when Saber Interactive was integrating crossplay. and this has since been fixed. We’re hoping no other bugs creep their way once the patch is live. Speaking of which, expect MP1st to let you know once the title update is live.

We’re also hoping that this patch will be adequately sized compared to the previous patches that ate up a ton of hard disk space.

GTFO Infection Update Comes March 31, Includes new Level, Enemies, and More

Early access title, GTFO is getting a major update at the end of this month, which will introduce the Rundown 002, or what’s otherwise known as the GTFO Infection Update.

The GTFO Infection update will release on March 31 and be available to all who own GTFO early access on PC. The developers have supplied us with a sneak peek look as they play through 8-minutes of the new level. Watch below!

About the video

GTFO doesn’t hold any hands and places demand on cooperation from the start; communicate with your team to find out if they see any signs on the walls or doors, to make progress. On this particular expedition we’re playing in the video, the players need to work together to establish an external uplink from a terminal: One team member will need to type in commands that are only visible on the screens of the three other players – who will need to shout them, while also combating an onslaught of monsters. As you can see in the video, it gets intense”, says Ulf Andersson, founder of 10 Chambers.

This will be the second Rundown to release, with the current one ending the same day of release. So if you haven’t yet completed it, now is your last chance to do so.

This update will introduce a number of fixes, which will be detailed at the time of release. Otherwise, down below is a list of confirmed content that is coming with the Rundown 002

  • A new environment called Dig Site
  • 10 new expeditions (with a new system called Warden Restriction, where the community help each other to unlock the last expeditions)
  • New weapons (a machine pistol and a burst rifle)
  • New enemy, or enemies? (this, you will have to find out by yourself)
  • New objectives
  • And more!

GTFO is now available for early access on PC. As of now, there are no current plans for the game to hit consoles. The developers solely want to focus on ensuring the PC version is where they want it to be, though they have expressed that they would be interested in a console version.

Report: Xbox Series X Release Date Set, Coming in Thanksgiving 2020

While we already know that the Xbox Series X release date falls sometime in “Holiday 2020,” it seems Microsoft has jumped the gun a bit and announced the release date prematurely.

The international Xbox Series X website (via GamesRadar) mentions that the Xbox Series X release date is set for November 26, 2020 – which puts it at the Holiday 2020 window, and on Thanksigiving Day nonetheless! Note that the “Thanksgiving 2020” could very well mean a day or two after or before Thanksgiving Day, so we’re putting a “report” on this story just in case.

Whether the release date sticks to November 26 or not, expect a mob of buyers snagging it — especially with Black Friday that near. Sadly, we’re probably going to see scalpers snatch a few up and resell them at a higher price.

In other Xbox Series X news, Microsoft has revealed the official specs of the next-gen console. You should also know that if you want to expand the Series X’s memory, you’ll have to use Microsoft’s proprietary memory cartridges, which you can see and read about here.

Sony Expects Almost All Major PS4 Titles to Be Playable on PS5 at Launch

We’ve known for some time now that the PlayStation 5 would be backward compatible with the PS4, though the extent of it had yet to be revealed. Today, during the PS5 deep dive reveal, Lead System Architect Mark Cerny took to discuss how the PS5 backward compatibility works and what players can expect when launch comes.

The PlayStation 5 GPU is Backward Compatible with the PlayStation 4. What does that mean? One way you can achieve backward compatibility is to put the previous console chipset in the new console as we did with some PS3. But that, of course, is extremely expensive. A better way is to incorporate any differences in the previous console logic in the new console custom chips. Meaning that, even if the technology evolves, the logic and feature set that PS4 and PS4 Pro title relies on is still available in backward compatibility mode. Once it’s in the console, it’s in. A countdown won’t remove it as it did with the PlayStation 3.  Achieving this unification of functionality took years of effort by AMD as any roadmap advancement creates a potential divergent in logic. Running PS4 and PS4 Pro titles at boosted frequency has also added complexity. The boost is truly massive this time around, and the game code just can’t handle it.

Testing needs to be done on a title to a title basis. The results are excellent. We recently took a look at the 1top 100 played titles ranked by playtime and we are expecting “almost” all them to be playable at launch on PlayStation 5.

While Mark Cerny didn’t downright deny that the PS5 would support PS3, PS2, and PS1 titles, from the slides it was made clear that the system currently only supports backward compatibility for the PS4. This could potentially change of course, though don’t hold your breath on that.

For more on the PS5, check out the official specs revealed today.

PSA: Amazon Delays Final Fantasy 7 Remake as They Priorities Medical Supplies and Other Essentials

Due to COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Amazon will no longer ship non-essential goods to their warehouses. This sadly means that many who have pre-ordered upcoming video games through the retailer are now receiving emails stating that their physical versions may be getting delayed shipping, and yes, this applies to Final Fantasy 7 Remake as well.

The statement issued by Amazon earlier today reads as followed:

We are closely monitoring the developments of COVID-19 and its impact on our customers, selling partners, and employees.

We are seeing increased online shopping, and as a result some products such as household staples and medical supplies are out of stock. With this in mind, we are temporarily prioritizing household staples, medical supplies, and other high-demand products coming into our fulfillment centers so that we can more quickly receive, restock, and deliver these products to customers.

For products other than these, we have temporarily disabled shipment creation. We are taking a similar approach with retail vendors.

This will be in effect today through April 5, 2020, and we will let you know once we resume regular operations. Shipments created before today will be received at fulfillment centers.

Despite Final Fantasy 7 Remake releasing on the 10th of April, warehouses as of yet have not received any copies, which in turn is affecting the release date for users who pre-ordered there. In the images obtained by us from readers, there is no longer guaranteed shipping for April 10, but now instead of a pending estimated delivery date.

Do mind that the title isn’t delayed altogether as you will still be able to pick it up from the digital storefront and possibly from local retailers. Amazon also stated this will last until April 4th, though that is subject to change depending on where we are at with the Coronavirus next month. Also, game releases within the next two weeks (Doom Eternal and a few others) most likely won’t be affected as they are already sitting in the warehouses.

EA Posts Letter Addressing COVID-19

Whether you’re an avid news reader/watcher or not, chances are you’ve heard of the global pandemic happening worldwide now with COVID-19. It’s not only affecting work and school, but even entertainment too, whuch includes video games. Electronic Arts (EA) has posted a letter addressing COVID-19, which you can read in its entirey below.

EA COVID-19 letter to the community:

To Our Electronic Arts Community,

This has been an unprecedented few days in an already unprecedented time.  As the world works to limit the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, a sweeping set of societal and cultural changes are now impacting all of our daily lives. We’d like to take a moment to update all of you on what we’re doing at Electronic Arts to ensure the health and wellbeing of our employees, while also making sure that everyone is able to keep playing their favorite games.

Since January, we’ve had a global taskforce closely monitoring the evolving situation with coronavirus and working daily to respond to the changing needs of our people in real time. We’ve been constantly assessing the risk of exposure in the regions where we have offices, guided by the recommendations from local and federal health authorities, and the information we’re getting from our own teams. In Asia, we’ve worked in accordance with regional health and government guidance.  We previously closed our locations in Shanghai, Singapore, and Seoul, as well as our Milan office, with teams working from home.  As the situation stabilizes in Shanghai and Singapore, our teams are now returning to work in line with guidance from regional health officials.  Our locations in Seoul and Milan remain closed, with those teams continuing to work remotely.

We implemented global travel restrictions in late February, eliminating all travel except very rare cases, and have been working with local leadership at each office and studio to make the best decisions for our people with the information we have. At the same time, we’ve been planning for business continuity, ensuring that our people have the support and resources they need to work from home.  Our IT and Security teams have scaled up our remote working systems, including deployment of VPN capacity upgrades, so that our studio and development work can be continued from home, in addition to standard business operations.

As of today, we have transitioned to strongly recommending that all our employees in North America, Europe and Australia work from home until April 1, to help limit potential exposure to coronavirus and minimize the social spread of the illness.  Many of these sites, including our Redwood Shores headquarters, were already giving employees the option to work from home, and now is the time for greater measures.  We will only have very limited staff for business-critical functions at these sites — everyone else will be working remotely.  Our senior leaders, site leaders and IT teams have been working together to help us prepare for this.

We’ve also taken steps to ensure that the vendors and contractors that provide services on-site at our facilities will continue to be paid, even if they’re not able to work from home in their roles.

As we take these steps for our Electronic Arts employees,  we’re also very focused on minimizing any potential for disruption to our players.  We are confident in our continuity plans.  We don’t anticipate major changes in our games or services as a result of our teams working from home, but we’re learning through this process as well and patience will be key.  We’re constantly talking and working with our teams across the world to evolve with the situation.

These are challenging times for everyone.  We’re working to look after our employees and their families, and make sure we’re doing the right and responsible things to fight this pandemic illness.  We have amazing technology teams that are making it possible for all of this to happen, and we’re deeply thankful.  We now have thousands of employees that have taken equipment to their homes so we can keep our games and services running, and continue working on new projects.  We may be doing it from our homes around the world, but we’re doing everything we can to be here for you.

Be safe and be well, everyone.

— The Electronic Arts Team

Note that this is addressed to the community and not to studios or employees. Speaking of which, you can read up on what Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot sent to employees regarding the virus here.

Here’s a List of Destiny 2 Bugs After Update 2.8.0

Just last week, Bungie rolled out Destiny 2 patch 2.8.0 that introduces Season of the Worthy along with a host of gameplay changes/fixes. As with the case with almost every multiplayer online game, each patch not only brings fixes, bug issues as well. For those curious what kind of Destiny 2 bugs are there post 2.8.0 patch, head on below.

Note that this isn’t the complete list of Destiny 2 bugs found in patch 2.8.0, but these are the biggest ones discovered by the community so far.

Warmind Cells

  • When using the “Tyrant’s Surge” artifact, weapon arc damage such as Divinity suppression field and anarchy pulse damage (both tested) will spawn Warmind cells.
  • Equipping a weapon ornament on seventh seraph weapons, specifically the SMG, will cause Warmind cells to no longer spawn from seventh seraph weapon kills. (credit u/KaihGame)
  • Using both suppression Warmind mods and “Burning Cells” Mod will occasionally cause only one effect to be applied at once when the effects are applied near the same time. I.e.: A suppression pulse happens as soon as the burning affect is applied upon Warmind cell detonation. This is not a huge issue however for low-level content as most enemies will die to the cell rather than the burn afterwards.

Warmind Bunkers

  • Resource frames do not currently gather resources properly (Bungie knows this).
  • Elite/Normal Heavy Frames will occasionally never detonate when their intend target dies during their self-detonation. If the enemy dies and loses the frame aggro, the frame will not explode and continue to live… forever.

Other Bugs

  • Deploying Bubble for Code of the Protector Titan generates no orbs (Bungie knows this).
  • Deploying Bubble for Code of the Protector Titan at a high enough height without ground underneath, thus allowing it to cancel, will grant armor of light with no visual over shield; granting ludicrous damage resistance. (credit u/Lewdsette)
  • Opening Trials Engrams will display a +0 power reward when claimed at St. 14, but give armor/weapons at a power less than the +0 upgrade to armor that was displayed. I.e.: Engram reward Displayed a 1001 power drop, but the player received a 999 power engram.
  • Guardian Games Universal Armor ornaments appear on some armor as unequippable, non-iconed, armor ornaments. They only appear if a player has completed and claimed hidden (but active) Guardian Games triumphs currently in the game.
  • No Triumph score will be granted to those who complete Black Talon Catalyst if they have already completed and claimed the accidental duped triumph for the World Line Zero Catalyst. NOTE: There is not “lost” triumph score. It just so happened that World Line Completed both triumphs before hand but this has been fixed.

Hopefully, Bungie can iron things out ASAP. In the meantime, don’t forget to check the weekly reset of actvities right here.

Ubisoft CEO Sends Letter to Employees Addressing COVID-19 Concerns, and It’s a Good One

While most reports regarding video game workplace conditions and the like are usually about “crunch,” sexual harrassment and the like, there’s still some goodness out there from time to time, and today, we have just that from the Ubisoft COVID-19 letter CEO  Yves Guillemot sent to employees.

In it,  Yves Guillemot addressed how the publisher has enough cash reserves to weather the storm, and how they’re pushing through in having employees work from home. He also touches on how gaming as a whole lets the publisher offer a “meaningful contribution” to those affected by letting people enjoy the time spent at home by gaming. Check out the full letter sent to employees below.

Dear everyone,

We are now in a pandemic, with far-reaching effects on our daily lives. At this exceptional juncture, it is essential that we take special care of ourselves and our loved ones. The health and well-being of Ubisoft team members is our primary concern, and we have taken the necessary steps to ensure that all of you are safe and get the right support through these demanding changes. In particular, we have been encouraging all of our collaborators to work from the safety of their homes since the end of last week.

Across Ubisoft, people are going above and beyond to adapt to this unprecedented event. My warm thanks go to both your local and global management teams, who have done such remarkable work in implementing the required preventative measures, in line with recommendations from national authorities and the World Health Organization. I also want to commend the proactivity of our teams who have gone to great lengths to provide us with solutions to work from home under the best possible conditions, thus ensuring the continuity of our operations.

As for the potential impact of the pandemic on our business, not only do we have sufficient cash reserves to take us through the storm, and Ubisoft’s international scope and our collaborative spirit also put us in a position to redeploy some our activities away from affected regions if needs be. Moreover, our core business – video games – enables us to offer a meaningful contribution to all those who currently seek enjoyable ways of spending their time within the confinement of their homes.

This is an unforeseen challenge that requires all of us to be even more caring, thoughtful, agile and resilient. Everyone has a role to play, and this includes taking the necessary precautions to protect ourselves and people around us. I believe we can learn a great deal from our teams in China, who have faced the same trials a few weeks before us: the experience of our Chinese friends give us hope in showing that responsible behaviour and pro-active public health measures can lead us out of the crisis.

We will continue to provide you with regular updates as we move forward. Your local managers and I are also available should you have questions or concerns. In the meantime, please take care of yourself.

Yves

This is definitely a nice reassurance from the publisher’s head cheese. Let’s hope other studios and their big bosses are just as understanding and nice.

Xbox Series X Expandable Storage Requires Proprietary Cards for Series X Games

While Microsoft unveiled a bunch of cool new Xbox Series X features yesterday, there’s something that also came to light recently that probably won’t make a lot of gamers happy. It looks like the Xbox Series X expandable storage won’t work with anything off the rack, as Microsoft requires it uses their prorietary cards.

Given how the Xbox Series X will come out of the box with just 1TB of SSD (Solid State Drive), and how huge games are these days (not to mention patches), for most gamers, 1TB for games simply isn’t enough. In the latest report by Digital Foundry, it mentions how there’s a proprietary slot at the back of the console so players can expand the storage. This slot uses custom-built NVMe SSD cartridges that when used, will work like the internal hard drive (meaning it’ll be fast). This memory cartridge also includes the necessary heatsink needed to protect the NVMe SSD drive from overheating, which is a good thing, though this also means that you can’t just plug any off the shelf hard drive.

Here’s what it looks like:

People can still use external 3.2 hard drives on the Xbox Series X, though they can only be used to run Xbox One and Xbox 360 backward compatible games. You will be able to store Xbox Series X games on the 3.2 hard drives but you won’t be able to run them without transferring the game(s) to the internal NVMe hard drive or the extra proprietary card, which kinda defeats the purpose of storing them (Xbox Series X games) on your regular hard drive, no?

For those curious how much these Xbox Series X expandable storage cards will cost, there’s no word yet, but given the history of proprietary memory, I don’t expect these to be cheap.

You can watch the full Digital Foundry report below.

Is this a deal-breaker for you? Or does it depend on how much the storage cartridges cost? We’re definitely curious how much this will cost and why Microsoft decided to go this route.

Call of Duty: Warzone Solos Now Live

Tired of having to carry your team in Call of Duty: Warzone? Ever wished you can go at it alone? Well, if so, now’s your chance to prove you have what it takes! Call of Duty: Warzone solos is now available in the game!

Yes, this means that it’s you going up against 149 other players, and if you die and lose in the Gulag, you’re out for good! To help players come into grips with playing Warzone solos, Activision has given out five tips to survive!

Top 5 Tips for Solos

5. Going Solo? Intel is Your Best Teammate. Along with paying attention to the Tac Map and Compass, be especially thorough about finding, and equipping, reconnaissance tools such as the Recon Drone, Heartbeat Monitor, and UAV.

4. Same Gulag. Same Player Count. No Buybacks. You only have one life to live in Solos. Make it count, both in the Gulag and out in Verdansk.

3. Consider Picking Up Contracts. This especially goes for Recon Contracts, as in Solos, the station capture time is halved compared to other modes. Complete Contracts and get Cash to further build up your loadout at Buy Stations.

2. … and Stay Down. Self-Revive Kits are in Solos. If it’s getting late into a game and you’re wary of an enemy after knocking them to zero health, double check that they are out for good before moving on.

1. Learn from Your Solos. While you may have less of a chance at winning Solos, take the lessons you learn into your next game with the squad. Who knows? A few Solos matches could be the difference between losing your next Battle Royale trios game and a hard-fought victory.

There’s no client download needed. Just load the game and you should be able to play Warzone solos ASAP.

Exams are stressful, regardless of how prepared you may be. There is always the anxiety that you may not have covered everything for the next paper and conversely, you could be worrying about your performance in the last paper and not sure if you did well.

All these can drive you up the wall literally during exam time. You need something to help you unwind for the next paper and it now appears gaming is the best way to release stress during exams and here is why.

  1. Science on gaming and stress relieve

Popular thinking is that gaming is teenage pastime unworthy of any mention and without health benefit. As a matter of belief, many people think it a waste of time and an activity for idlers.

However, what does science say about gaming and its effect on players? Unbelievably, scientific research appears to suggest strongly that gaming can indeed relieve stress and lift your moods.

Cortisol is the hormone responsible for stress in people and control of its levels is key to relaxing. Research by McGill University found that gaming reduced the production of this hormone in the body by 17 percent, significantly lowering stress levels. Many other research findings by various bodies have made a strong case for gaming as an antidote to stress.

  1. Gaming for improved brain function

In difficult and stressful situations like when facing exams, your brain might take flight – freeze and leave you blank when you need it most. This compounds the already stressed situation and can lead to depression besides failed exams.

So, how do you train your brain to stay focused on difficult situations while handling accompanying anxiety?

Video gaming is designed for a split second on the spot decisions, training your brain for extreme multitasking capacity. This does not only enhance your capacity to handle stress but to think at the same time, something a student definitely needs in exams.

Gaming trains your mind to remain focused on the task at hand while finding a solution to emerging hurdles as you seek success.

During all this, you can also use https://writix.co.uk/personal-statement-help for the writing work that bothers you. After all, you cannot produce quality work when you are stressed and working hard to gain mental focus. Let the expert writers at UK Essay do the thesis, essays and dissertation work for you.

  1. Managing stress by gaming

Granted, playing video games can be stressful in itself with frustrations at not beating the machine. Strangely, this irony is the trick to stress management. You see, every time you take up a game, you must overcome multiple hurdles in a fast-paced game that does not allow you time to think on your way to the next level.

Unsuccessful progression can lead to stress and rage that feeds on itself to keep defeating you. You have to rethink strategy, and suddenly you realize that keeping calm might help you read the game clearly and successfully. Bingo! You just learned to manage your stress and possible bouts of rage. Do this several times over and you become the master of your emotions able to control decisions.

  1. Gaming for superior cognitive capacity

Gaming is not all about relaxation for players. There are other benefits for students that can help in both studies and exams. However, the student must define goals clearly when opting for video gaming as a tool in their study program. Consciously engage in gaming with the aim of enhancing your mental acuity even as you play to relax.

Scientific research has also demonstrated that responsible gaming has a marked impact on a player’s cognitive capacity. Gaming improves thought speed, analytical reasoning, problem-solving skills, and mathematical proficiency qualities any student desires.

What this means is that over a long time of practice, a student acquires other learning skills unaware despite playing for leisure. The gaming rule, though, is to play responsibly.

  1. Play for self-motivation and resilience

Video gaming is based on multiple levels of challenges and progression. You have to overcome one level to proceed with difficulty index increasing. The desire to conquer and proceed to the ultimate finish drives players and not any external bidding. As these levels get harder, it takes a player with strong motivation to fight on with eyes on the prize.

If practiced well, the motivation gained here can be extended to classwork and exams helping the student achieve desired academic goals. Since academic programs come in ascending levels, to successfully progress through education, a smart student can use the same gaming analogy with eyes firmly on that major.

The important thing is to approach gaming with clearly understood objectives, otherwise “Jumanji” will swallow you.

Conclusion

Gaming is gaining popularity even beyond the traditional youth group and attracting older people seeking relief from life stresses. For students, there are multiple benefits to gain as long as they exercise moderation to guard against the downsides.

Besides relaxation, you also get to make friends as they learn from the competitive spirit generated during group gaming. In these technological days, it is a worthy alternative to outdoor activities, especially during winters. Game on as you excel in your exams!

id Software Talks Doom Eternal Battle Pass, Cosmetics, and Boosters

Confirmed earlier this year, id Software finally discusses what exactly the DOOM  Eternal Battle Pass system is along with detailing how the in-game boosters work.

Much like many others out there, DOOM Eternal battle pass will give players a huge collection of seasonal rewards. These rewards are earned by gaining XP (Singleplayer & Multiplayer)  to reach different tiers in the battle pass. In total, Doom Eternal battle pass features three kinds of tier levels, which are:

Deluxe Edition – Basic level cosmetics (Common)

Special Edition – Tier above basic (Rare). Includes accessories and a few minor changes.

Master Collection – Top of the line collectibles (Legendary and Exotics). These are full 3-D model updates, so they differ from the previous editions as they are whole new assets altogether.

And you might be wondering how much all this cost? Well, absolutely nothing, except your time I suppose. DOOM Eternal will not feature a paid Battle Pass or an in-game store!

As for what boosters are? Well, they’re pretty much free XP that can be earned passively based on friends gameplay. It doesn’t take away from them or you, they are literally just bonuses that you can activate. id Software described it as a “like” button that gives you rewards.

DOOM Eternal is launching this Friday on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Google Stadia. The Nintendo Switch version will be launching at a later date. Expect Doom Eternal multiplayer to be heavily supported after launch, with more cosmetics, seasonal events, and balancing updates. We’ll be sure to keep you all updated as new content is revealed.
