Rocket League Nintendo Switch Release Date Is November 14

Rocket League, the acrobatic battle cars that play soccer, is coming to the Nintendo Switch on November 14, and yes, it supports cross-play!

Rocket League will cost you a cool $19.99 USD or the regional equivalent and be available to download on the eShop(no news on whether a physical retail copy will be available). The Switch version will come with ALL modes and content, including some exclusive battle-cars like the Mario NSR and the Samus’ Gunship. You’ll also be able to play against Xbox One and PC players in cross play.

For those of you who are purchasing Rocket League for a second or third time, you’ll also be happy to know that Pysonix is in discussion to bring cross-platform parties, and progression being shared so you don’t have to start from scratch every time as Pysonix_Corey states on ResetEra.

Can’t, sorry.

Purchase transferring are pretty much a never, not because of our preferences, but in general platform holders don’t like for things to be purchasable outside of their ecosystem and then brought inside.

Progress being shared is a possibility we are going to look into alongside the Cross-Platform Friends and Party stuff we’ve been discussing. Not sure offhand what the restrictions are though.

If you want to see some gameplay, check out the video below, which also has a neat studio tour of Psyonix.

GameStop Announces New Subscription Model for Pre-Owned Games Called the “PowerPass”

If you’re still paying for physical copies of video games at your local GameStop, you’re in for a treat as the holiday season arrives because GameStop has announced a new subscription service for pre-owned games for their Power-Up Rewards members called the “PowerPass.”

The subscription costs the price of a new game, $60, and for six months you can rent out an unlimited amount of pre-owned games of your choice for any platform, play however long you want, and return it. The only caveats are that you have to rent one game at a time and again, you have to be a member of the Power-Up Rewards, which itself costs between $15 and $30 depending on which tier you go with. The best part of the subscription is that after the six months is over, you can choose any pre-owned game to take home and keep forever.

Some of you might be thinking that this is a not-so-good deal, because you won’t be able to play any new games, right? Wrong. Head into a GameStop a couple of days after a game release and you’ll discover(usually) a plethora of newly released titles in the pre-owned section.

Does this sound like a good deal to you? Let us know in comments!

Anthem Lead Animator Leaves BioWare After 17 Years of Employment

BioWare’s upcoming RPG Anthem is losing an important developer in Lead Animator, Steven Gilmour.  It’s important to note that developers leaving their companies is nothing new, though the timing of this couldn’t be worse given the recent shuttering of one of EA’s first-party studios, Visceral Games.

Bryan Johnson, a developer at BioWare, states that people shouldn’t put anything much darker to the resignation which he shared on Reddit:

Generally speaking of course we are sad when people leave, and we no longer get the opportunity to work with them. But no company is without turnover, even senior people it happens.
There is still a very large number of people that have been with the company a long time.

Lets take KotOR (came out in 2003) as an example, if you look at the credits under Core Game Design (which was literally the first list in the credits) we have the following: David Falkner, Steven Gilmour, Casey Hudson, Drew Karpyshyn, James Ohlen, Preston Watamaniuk, Derek Watts

The only person in that list that is gone is Steve, with Drew and Casey leaving and coming back.
So I know it’s easy to look for any details to determine what is going on when there is little news, but I would say dont read into departures too much.

Steven was with BioWare for 17 years before departing, and has so far not divulged where he’s headed to next.

Call of Duty: WWII Gets Update on Xbox One

Just yesterday, we reported that a Call of Duty: WWII update has rolled out for the PlayStation 4 that allowed early release owners to play single-player and Zombies mode. Well, it seems this same 9GB update is out now for Xbox One players, too!

This was revealed over on Reddit where user Brodiii uploaded a screenshot of his early copy getting a patch.

This 9GB update seems to be put in place by Sledgehammer to prevent early release copies from being played, which worked until the patch was rolled out.

For those wondering, digital pre-loaders cannot play the single-player or Zombies mode. However, the 9GB update can be downloaded, so at the very least, you can play the game right away when it’s officially release this Friday, November 3.

If you’re one of the few people who managed to get an early release copy of CODW: WWII, what are your initial thoughts so far?

In related news, we just posted the release date of the first COD: WWII DLC pack called “The Resistance,” and what gamers should expect from it.

Star Wars Battlefront II Now in Gold Status

Development on Star Wars Battlefront II has officially come to a close! While the developers behind EA’s upcoming Star Wars games will be working on day-one patches, servers and all that, the actual meat and potatoes of the game has now been sacked and ready for production.

This was announced by Criterion Games over on Twitter, where it also congratulated DICE and EA’s Motive team, who are all involved in making Battlefront II a reality. For those unaware, Criterion is the studio behind Starfighter Assault, which is the game’s surprisingly super-fun space battles multiplayer mode.

In video game industry terms, a game going “gold” means development on it is finished, and that the game is ready for mass production before being shipped to retailers worldwide. As for the latest Battlefront II game news, we posted the entire official map list for Galactic Assault yesterday.

Star Wars Battlefront II flies out to retail and digital storefronts this November 17 on the PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Call of Duty: WWII First DLC “The Resistance” Dated, Carentan Map Gets Own Trailer

While we’ve already reported on the Call of Duty: WWII Season Pass, we now know when the first expansion will hit, and it’s on January 30 for the PlayStation 4! Called “The Resistance,” the first expansion was teased at the very end of the Carentan map reveal trailer, and based on the icons on the map, shows three new multiplayer maps, a zombie map, and one map for War mode.

PS4 gamers can expect The Resistance to be available to the platform first, with PC and Xbox One owners getting it a month after. Speaking of the Carentan map, announced officially a few weeks ago as part of the Call of Duty: WWII Season Pass and Digital Deluxe edition, the old-school Carentan map from the first Call of Duty gets its own trailer today.

As one can expect, the graphics have been given a major overhaul. For those who’ve yet to try it out, it seems to be a blend of damaged structures with some verticality in them to spice things up. Watch it demoed below.

Carentan, one of the most beloved Call of Duty® Multiplayer maps, makes its return in Call of Duty®: WWII. Fight through destroyed buildings and fortified streets of this war-torn French town in an all-out battle for a strategic German stronghold. Available Day 1 for Season Pass and Digital Deluxe Edition owners.

We’ve reported yesterday that War mode will have three maps, and you can read about it here.

PGW 2017 – God of War PS4 Gameplay Shown and It Looks Impressive

During Sony’s Paris Games Week 2017 media briefing, the company unveiled a new God of War PS4 gameplay clip, and it looks amazing so far. We can see Kratos with his son Atreus take on a horde of enemies, with Kratos cutting through them like a hot knife through butter.

Check out the God of War PS4 gameplay video from PGW 2017 below.

Intensity, strategy, and an emotional combat connection between Kratos and his son Atreus, is what Santa Monica Studio wants you to feel in the new combat system for God of War. This combat moment with the deadly Draugr’s in the Huldra Mine, in the middle of mayhem, is a perfect example of how Kratos and Atreus can take down their enemies, together, in the brutal Norse wilds as they fight to fulfill a deeply personal quest.

We also see what looks to be a fire golem of some sort early on, and chances are, Kratos will have to meet him head-on in combat at some point. There’s also a bried flash of a really menacing enemy near the end as well, so don’t forget to watch it til the end.

God of War will hit the PS4 in “early 2018” and is being developed by Sony Santa Monica.

PGW 2017 – League of War PSVR Announced, Brief Gameplay Clip Shown Off

During the Sony pre-show at this year’s Paris Games Week, Sony showed a new PlayStation VR game called “League of War,” which lets you command troops on a virtual battlefield and go up against another player.

It’s definitely an interesting premise and one that might remind people of mobile game Clash of Clans, though League of War looks to be a couple of notches above that.

Based from the trailer, League of War will support local multiplayer with one user using the PlayStation Move to interact  with the virtual battlegrounds, while the other player uses the DualShock 4.

PGW 2017 – Detroit: Become Human Trailer Focuses on Kara and Her Human Owner

Detroit: Become Human got a new trailer during the Sony Paris Games Week showcase. It focuses on Kara and her relationship with her human owner and his daughter.

Take a look below:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DekL-KwvOCo

Since we introduced Detroit with a teaser focused on Kara, we released demos of Connor and Markus. We had to close the loop by showing a demo of Kara, which we are proud to do at Paris Games Week, the place where we revealed the game to the world for the first time.

The scene we are presenting is a very important moment in Kara’s story: we discover that Kara is owned by a human, Todd Williams, the single father of a little girl called Alice. Confronted with Todd’s violence toward his little girl, Kara feels compelled to disobey and risk her life to save Alice.

At its core, The Last of Us Part II is still very much about Ellie and Joel, but for this reveal, we wanted to showcase several new characters that are integral to their next journey. We’re sure you have many questions after watching this scene.

We’re also pretty sure that we’re going to see all sorts of theories about whom these characters are, where and when this scene takes place, and how all of this fits into Ellie and Joel’s next story. For now we’re keeping mum, but we’re excited to see what y’all make of this piece of the puzzle.

And here’s a new interview with creative director Neil Druckmann:

The Last of Us Part II debuted a brand new trailer at Paris Games Week, and to our surprise it provided more questions than answers. We sat down with Creative Director Neil Druckmann to see if we could pry any more details about exactly who these new characters are and to check in on how development is progressing.
