Warframe New War and Duviri Paradox Planned to Launch This Year

Originally intended to release last year, it would seem that Digital Extreme’s parent company, Leyou Technologies Holdings Limited is targeting the studio’s next expansions, Waframe New War and the next open-world, Plains of Duviri, to release sometime this year.

This news was confirmed in the annual 2019 earning report by Leyou Technologies Holdings Limited, which discussed some of the future plans for the Warframe series.

” Looking ahead to 2020, content updates for Warframe in the story quest, The New War and another open world are planned to be launched in 2020. ”

Of course, being planned doesn’t mean it will release this year, especially with Digital Extreme’s history of pushing updates out. In fact, the New War content drop was originally planned for Christmas 2019 but has since received a delay with no new release. We will most likely hear more about New War and Duviri Paradox in July, during the annual Tennocon event.

Warframe New War Trailer

For now, players can enjoy the new update that just released on all platforms, which not only brought a bunch of quality of life improvements but also the new Operation Scarlet Spear event.

Introducing Operation: Scarlet Spear – a brand new event that requires the ultimate effort from the Tenno. The fight against the Sentient Threat has reached new heights – and the Tenno will be using the new “Operation Link” aka OpLink! Ground teams and Space teams will be connected realtime using OpLink – working together to deter the Sentients!

We should be getting some new details on the new Warframe coming to the game real soon, so stay tuned for that!

Black Ops Khe Sahn Live Action Behind the Scenes Footage Surfaces

If you’ve been a Call of Duty fan since way back, chances are you’ve played Call of Duty: Black Ops’ campaign, and the Battle of Khe Sahn mission. One of the people involved with it — James C. Burns who plays Sgt. Frank Woods — decided to upload some Black Ops Khe Sahn live action footage!

Of course, it’s not the actor actually gunning down enemies, but rather, the behind the scenes aspect of it which involves full motion capture complete with the spandex and all.

Speaking of James C. Burns, he has confirmed that he is not involved with Treyarch or anything Call of Duty-related presently. Mind, this doesn’t mean a Black Ops game isn’t being made, as rumors have surfaced that Treyarch is working on a reboot of the series. Not only that, but we’re supposed to be getting a reveal this May.

Do you remember this particular mission in Black Ops and did you have a hard time completing it as a lot of people did back then? If you spot other off-beat or cool Call of Duty news, send us a tip via email and we’ll credit you if we run it.

Devs React to 27-Minute DOOM Eternal Speedrun

Barely a month in, it seems speedrunners have managed to complete DOOM Eternal in less time than it takes some people to finish a meal. If you want to see it unfold yourself, check out the 27-minute DOOM Eternal speedrun below! And as a bonus, id Software devs even give their commentary of it.

Doom Eternal is barely a month old and speedrunners have already figured out how to finish the game in under a half hour. So ride along with Marty Stratton (Executive Producer), Hugo Martin (Game Director), Jerry Keehan (Level Design Director) and Evan Eubanks (Lead Game Programmer) as they watch their latest game get absolutely destroyed by world record speedunner: Xamide.

Regardless if it can be beaten in less than 30 minutes or not, that hasn’t stopped people from snatching the game up, as DOOM Eternal has broken franchise records already. If you haven’t bought it yet, make sure to read our DOOM Eternal review and see why we gave it a 9/10.

Of note though, speedrunning a game takes skill and is something that involves lots of trial and error, and patience. Even if a game gets beaten this fast, that doesn’t mean everyone can.

Are you surprised at all by this or not at all?

Predator Hunting Grounds Post Launch Content will be Talked About Soon, Has Gone Gold

The launch of Predator Hunting Grounds is nearly upon us, and developers Illfonic finally broken silence to address some concerns and confirming the title is indeed ready for launch as it has recently gone gold. Not only that, but developer Illfonic has mentioned that it will talk about Predator Hunting Grounds post launch content soon.

Talking in this week’s PlayStation Blogcast, Illfonic’s CEO Charles Brungardt and Creative Director Jared Gerritzen took to addressing some of the concerns brought up in the recent trial for Predator Hunting Grounds. While it had some balancing and bugs presented in it, they stated that the build was nearly 6-weeks old and that some of the issues were ironed out since that time. Of course, with the trial in the hands of players, they were also able to get data concerning balancing, which has been tuned for the launch. They went on to confirm that the title has indeed gone gold, and while they’re working on some last touches, they will soon share what they have planned for Predator Hunting Grounds post launch support.

We’re definitely gonna share a lot more details on that soon. We just recently went gold, but that doesn’t mean we stopped. We get to multiplayer games like this we get to keep going, we get keep iterating, we get to keep addressing all the way up to launch and after launch. So we’re definitely focused right now on making the best launch experience we can possible, but there’s definitely a lot of stuff we’re talking about to continue to evolve and expand beyond launch. So stay tuned for that, we will be sharing.

Here’s hoping the newest build fixes a lot of the issues we had during our hands-on experience. Predator Hunting Grounds will be launching next week (April 24th) on the PlayStation 4 and PC and will fully support cross-play between the two. Stay tuned as we will have a full review sometimes after it launches.

Infinity Ward: Call of Duty Warzone Performance “Is Perfect, Flawless” Even With Upsurge of People Playing

With a lot of people around the world ordered to stay at home due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, one of the easiest ways to stay connected while practicing social distancing is gaming. Add in that Call of Duty: Warzone is free-to-play, and well, you can pretty much guess how that would turn out, right?

However, with literally millions of players logging in to play Call of Duty: Warzone, has this affected the Call of Duty Warzone performance at all? Apparently not — at least according to Infinity Ward Narrative Director Taylor Kurosaki. Speaking in an interview, Kurosaki was asked how the game was holding up with all the internet demand due to people staying at home.

GamesBeat: I know this is not strictly your department, but do you have a sense of how well the game is holding up with all the internet demand that’s materializing because of people staying at home?

Kurosaki: Every indication I have, firsthand and from what I’ve heard, is that performance in the game is perfect. It’s flawless. We’re not seeing anything in matches. Everything is all systems go. The main way we’ve been trying to be good citizens in a time where there are demands from lots of different places is just in terms of when updates come out and things like that. But when you’re loaded into a match it’s smooth sailing.

Given how gaming and livestream usage has increased significantly due to the pandemic, this is impressive news indeed. That said, my personal experience playing Warzone isn’t flawless by any means. Most of the time, I’ve experienced massive Warzone perfrmance lags, net spikes and whatnot that I don’t experience in other multiplayer games.

How has your Warzone experience so far in terms of performance and net issues? Good? Bad? Or is it as “perfect” as Infinity Ward claims? Let us know down in the comments.

Star Wars Episode 1 Racer PS4 and Nintendo Switch Versions Coming This May

Remember the Nintendo 64 racing game Star Wars Episode 1: Racer? Released way back in 1999, the racing game is coming to the PS4 and Nintendo Switch with added enhancements. The Star Wars Episode 1 Racer PS4 and Nintendo Switch release date is set for May 12.

Over on the official Star Wars website, developer Aspyr and Lucasfilm have conducted an interview/feature on the game, which includes a “modernized” control scheme.

StarWars.com: What can you tell us about the modernized controls you’ve developed?

James Vicari:Racer originally came out in an interesting time for controllers. We were really starting to see interesting things — rumble, multiple analog sticks. Even the shape of the N64 controller. So it’s sort of fitting that when you look at controls today, we’re seeing the same thing. Like the Switch Joy-Cons. You really want to make sure that the game plays well and embraces as much of the variations as possible for them. So we’ve done a lot of work to make sure that the game feels comfortable in all configurations, including playing with each individual Joy-Con. The team here is a big believer that the best control scheme is the one you don’t ever think about and that philosophy really permeates everything we’ve done with the controls.

As someone who played the game way back, I hope it’s still as fun today as it was back then.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Review – A Perfect Reunion

It’s a little hard to believe that after nearly decades of begging, the Final Fantasy 7 Remake has finally been released. It feels as if it’s a dream and the kind that you don’t ever want to wake up from knowing how perfect it is. To say the least, Final Fantasy 7 Remake delivers and sets whole new bars for remakes. Read on for our full Final Fantasy 7 Remake review.

A Final Fantasy for Fans and First-Timers

Going into this remake, I was a bit worried about it deviating from the original game, as the gameplay was already doing just that. Seeing that Midgar in the original was only a few short hours long, it was hard to imagine that the team would somehow manage to pull a full game’s worth of story and content. But to my surprise, they have, and it’s fantastic.

Fans who grew up with the original release will be no stranger to the game’s central plot. You take the role of a now ex-soldier who’s been hired to help the eco-terrorist group known as Avalanche. Their goal? To stop Shinra, a money grubbing, evil corporation from sucking all of the planet’s life energy known as Mako. However, after successfully blowing up their first reactor, the public view for the group quickly goes sour as the aftermath of their action had dire consequences on the people living in the slums. People quickly come to fear the group, worrying that at any minute, they may strike and get caught in the crossfire.

Yet despite their radical actions, Shinra is every bit of evil that the group sees them for as the corporation seizes the opportunity to exploit the devastating event. So much so they’re willing to endanger the lesser citizens of Midgar for their own personal gains and blame it all on Avalanche. Still, it doesn’t deter Avalanche from their goal of uncovering Shinra’s true intentions and proving to the world that they’re not the shiny heroes everyone views them as.

For new players, the story is straightforward and told exceptionally well with its superb voice acting and stunning visual presentation. I can’t argue that there is a whole lot wrong with it (for new players) outside of the abundance of fetch quests. And I suppose it being linear is another, though it didn’t bother me since the story kept good pacing throughout.

As for the fans who played the original, let me just say give Final Fantasy 7 Remake a chance. From the moment we started it, to the moment we put our controller down for the ending, it was clear that the folks over at Square Enix did love making this title, instead of going for a cheap money grab.

Sure, it’s the first part in a larger picture, but that is precisely why you need to play it first to understand. I don’t like diving into spoilers, so I won’t say anything specific, but the Remake features a ton of new scenes that old-time fans will appreciate. It expands on characters that desperately needed more development before we saw them off, and while many may view that as filler, it is at least entertaining and lore building. I didn’t care much about the other cast of Avalanche (Wedge Biggs, Jessie) in the original, but by the time I finished the Remake, I couldn’t stop wanting more. I will say, as a warning to fans, go into this Remake with an open mind as its made clear why they simply didn’t call this “part 1” in the multi-part Remake.

Visual Spectacle Plagued with Inconsistency

Final Fantasy games have always boasted gorgeous cinematics that could rival even Pixar movies. There’s always been something special about them, even if the actual in-game visuals never looked anywhere close to them. Well, Final Fantasy 7 Remake attempts to blur those lines as much as possible, and being powered by the latest version of Unreal Engine, it does a pretty damn good job at it. We’ve seen some impressive-looking titles come out of this generation, but FF7 Remake pushes those limits when it comes to near CGI visuals for real-time gameplay.

Because the game doesn’t feature an open world, or dynamic day/night cycle, the team is able to control everything in the environment. This means that the gameplay shines in the best possible conditions, making it a wonderful piece of art to see in motion. They’re able to push for more particles, produce better lighting, and apply even higher details in moments that matter the most. Scene transitions from cutscene to gameplay seamlessly with little to no visual differences. It is without question the best looking Final Fantasy game to date.

This goes without saying that the Remake does suffer from visual inconsistency. For as highly as detailed scenes may come off, there are odd textures (or lack of) on random objects that felt distracting. For example, in one scene where Cloud is talking to Tifa, there was a door behind Cloud that looked extremely blurry. We expected that the textures would eventually load in, but they never did. This was the same throughout many other segments, leading us to believe this issue was a design choice rather than a technical bug.

And it’s a shame, because of how good the game looks, it was easy to get distracted by some PS1-like objects. It was jarring, and once we noticed we couldn’t stop noticing. Some areas had it worse, where the only thing that looked good was the character themselves. We hope this is something that Square Enix can eventually fix via patching, though chances are you’ll need to wait for the PC version, and/or next-gen if there is one.

A small note I’d like to include is that some background renderings appeared as PNG images while others were in full 3D. We aren’t sure if they opted to go with the PNG backgrounds as some sort of “nostalgic” callback to the original backgrounds, but for me personally, I kind of liked them.

Combat Made for Today

I would have loved it if this remake had the turn-based combat from the original. I didn’t have an issue with it back then, and I don’t see why it would be one today. That being said, the overhaul gameplay is, in a word, incredible.

From the moment we first started, we knew this was going to be one fantastic experience as the combat was so simple, yet deep enough to supply some worthy challenges. It plays like a hack-and-slash with its fast movements, yet the ATB (Active Time Battle) bar gives you the feel of a classic Final Fantasy game. The last two main entries (13, 15) had similar combat, though we found them to be far more automated to the point of feeling removed. There was nothing more dissatisfying about them than being able to push or hold a single button and let it play itself.

Remake ensures that you are always in the driver seat, allowing you to perform every action and possible combo you can think of. You can even take control of any additional party members, adding even more style to the combat.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a Final Fantasy game if it didn’t feature any RPG elements. There’s a leveling system that increases health amongst other stats, but weapons themselves can also be upgraded and slotted with different Materia. Similar to the original, Materia consists of various spells, summoning, and other battle abilities, all of which level up from the more time they’re used. I found some interesting combinations of weapons and Materia that made the system worth exploring, even more so after realizing every character can be slotted with them.

As for summons, they’re a bit different from past titles as they act as an additional non-controllable party member during combat. Don’t worry either as they still have their flashy cinematic finishers that fans have come to love throughout the decades. As for how the game handles leveling, assuming you are playing at a reasonable pace, you’ll never really be outmatched as typically the level corresponds with current progress. This, however, doesn’t hold entirely true with Hard mode. If you find easy to be too easy (duh) and normal not to be challenging enough, the game does offer a far more difficult option, though it’s only after you have beaten the game. It is definitely worth another playthrough if you want something that’ll offer a challenge.

Full Game, Despite Being the First Part

I went into this Remake expecting it to not hold up to the original and ended up being completely wrong. Final Fantasy 7 Remake excels in every expectation that I had, making this one of the best Final Fantasy games to date. It may not be the Remake that many had hoped for, but rest assured it is still Final Fantasy 7 in every other way. This will be sitting alongside other classics in the years to come, and we look forward to seeing where the journey ends.

Score: 9.5/10

Pros

  • Amazing graphics
  • Beautiful redone soundtrack (outside of Crazy Motorcycle Chase, what have they done!!)
  • Engaging gameplay
  • Fun boss fights
  • An expanded story that adds exciting new lore

Cons

  • Texture issues, “PS1” like visuals at times. Very distracting.

Streets of Rage 4 Release Date and Battle Mode Announced

Who doesn’t want to beat the crap out of bad guys, right? Old school gamers will fondly remember that no other game did it better than the Streets of Rage franchise. Today, Dotemu (Windjammers) has announced the Streets of Rage 4 release date for April 30!

Check out the new trailer now:

Give a first look at Streets of Rage 4’s Battle Mode, a legacy experience returning from Streets of Rage 2 and 3. This feud-settling battleground is bound to help rivals recognize who truly is Wood Oak City’s finest alley-clearing ruffian, as well as settle grudges spurred by accidental friendly strikes during multiplayer sessions.

In addition to the release date, Streets of Rage 4 will feature a Battle Mode — something that should be familiar with franchise fans. This mode pits players against one another or against AI-controlled enemies, and adds another layer of replayability to the upcoming beat-’em-up.

Not familiar with the franchise? Here’s a quick description straight from the press release:

Streets of Rage 4 is the franchise’s first mainline entry in more than 25 years, reuniting Axel, Blaze, and Adam while introducing fresh fighters and combat depth, an arrestingly fluid hand-drawn art style, and an all-new scenario as well as city boroughs to crack skulls in. With an original soundtrack from Olivier Derivière incorporating worldwide talent, including massive contributions from series composers Yūzō Koshiro and Motohiro Kawashima, Streets of Rage 4’s pairing of classic elements with distinctive modern direction makes this highly anticipated return the fight of a lifetime.

As an old school beat-’em-up fan, I’m definitely looking forward to this. Who knows? This might kickstart the genre back to life, and it’d be fitting if Streets of Rage 4 did it.

Destiny 2 Guardian Games Set for Next Week Along With New Update

Which class is the best in Destiny 2? Guardians can decide that for themselves with the Destiny 2 Guardian Games set for next week on April 21! This was announced by Bungie today along with a new trailer.

Each Guardian will receive a class item to adorn themselves while taking part in the competition and bronze, silver, and gold medals will be awarded daily. To earn medals, players will need to equip their new class item, defeat enemies, pick up laurels on the battlefield.

Bungie has addressed how the class population is heavily skewed to the Hunter class’ favor. To help offset this, medals will be weighted slightly per class to maintain an even playing field. Bungie won’t be fiddling with the numbers to force wins on alternate classes, as this is being done to ensure Hunters don’t win every medal each day given the sheer number of players using the class.

For the class items, schedules and more, head on below.

Now, about those class items. At daily reset, your Cloak, Mark, or Bond will update to reflect what placement your team has taken. As an example, if Titans took the “W” for day one, their Mark will update with a wonderful gold sigil. With Warlocks in second and Hunters in third, their class items would be updated to feature silver and bronze, respectively.

At the end of each event, daily placements will be combined for a final score. Depending on your team’s standings, your class items will be locked to their respective placements for the remainder of the year.

Each week, players will be able to accept a quest that will let them earn an Exotic Ghost Sell, one themed for each Guardian class. Guardians can complete this quest every week to get all three.

Additionally, a new Exotic Machine Gun will become available during this event. We look forward to seeing what mayhem this tool of destruction will inspire when you get it in your hands.

Players will be getting update 2.8.1 next week, and here’s the maintenance schedule for it:

LET THE GAMES BEGIN
Next week, Guardian Games kicks off with the release of Destiny 2 Update 2.8.1. Please see below for the rollout timeline.
      • 9 AM PDT (1600 UTC): Destiny 2 service maintenance begins.
      • 9:45 AM PDT (1645 UTC): Destiny 2 is taken offline on all platforms.
      • 10 AM PDT (1700 UTC): Destiny 2 Update 2.8.0 begins rolling out across all platforms and regions. Players will be able to log back into Destiny 2 at 10:01 AM PDT.
      • 10:01 AM PDT (1701 UTC): Destiny 2 is back online on all platforms; Guardian Games begins.
      • 11 AM PDT (1800 UTC): Destiny 2 service maintenance concludes.
      • For future release timelines when they are available, players should visit our Destiny Server and Update Status help article. For live updates as this maintenance occurs, players should follow @BungieHelp on Twitter or monitor our support feed at help.bungie.net.

Same as always, once the update is out, MP1st will be on hand to let our readers know ASAP!

Gamescom 2020 Officially Cancelled, “Already Working” to Transition to a Digital Show

In news that should surprise no one, another video game event has been cancelled due to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic affecting people worldwide. The event organizers of gamescom have announced today that gamescom 2020 is effectively cancelled, and is now being transitioned to a digital show.

This was announced via the event’s official Twitter account:

Dear gamescom community,

It’s official: unfortunately, gamescom will under no circumstances take place on site in Cologne this year. Just like many of you, we are disappointed, because, as the gamescom team, we have been working on a wonderful gamescom 2020 for months, just like the many exhibitors. However, it is also quite clear to us that, in the face of the corona pandemic, we must stand united. This means that we must all be considerate of each other and reduce the risk of infection.

We are, however, already working full speed on a digital gamescom. It is, after all, the world’s biggest event for games, and that’s what it should be again this year. You can already look forward to how we will celebrate the best games and gamescom together with you and millions of gamers worldwide at the end of August, even if it will only be digital and not on location this time. Because one thing is certain: this year too, gamescom is and will remain “The Heart of Gaming”!

We will reveal more about this in the next few weeks. Until then, stay healthy and don’t forget to #StayHomePlayTogether!

Your gamescom team

For those that already bought tickets, all paid tickets will be refunded and will be arranged in the coming weeks. People have “nothing further” they need to do.

Crysis Remastered Officially Announced, Out This Summer

After today’s accidental leak by the official Crysis website, Crytek has officially announced Crysis Remastered, which is due out this summer for the PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch!

Crysis Remastered is being worked on by Saber Interactive (World War Z), and we got a teaser for it too!

Curious what some of the new improvements will be? Here’s what’s in it (and its plot) straight from the official press release:

Crysis Remastered will feature the original game’s single-player campaign alongside high-quality textures, an HD texture pack, improved art assets, temporal anti-aliasing, SSDO, SVOGI, state-of-the-art depth fields, new light settings, motion blur, parallax occlusion mapping, and particle effects (where applicable). Further additions like volumetric fog and shafts of light, software-based ray tracing, and screen space reflections deliver a major visual upgrade to this classic FPS experience.

The original Crysis arms players with the powerful Nanosuit on the battleground of a new war against alien invaders. The Nanosuit’s speed, strength, armor and cloaking allow creative solutions for every fight, with a huge arsenal of modular weaponry to give you incredible control over your play style. Become invisible to stalk enemy patrols, boost your strength to lay waste to vehicles, and deflect damage to dominate your enemies in this enormous sandbox world.

Sadly, multiplayer won’t be part of this given the first game (which is being remastered) didn’t include it.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 Battle of Scarif Update Delayed “Later Into April”

Last month, DICE announced that the next major Star Wars Battlefront 2 title update called “Battle for Scarif” would be pushed into April. While no definite release date has been given, it seems the Star Wars Battlefront 2 Battle of Scarif update won’t be available until at least near the end of the month.

The official EA Star Wars Twitter account announced that the Battle of Scarif update and even its accompanying Community Transmission (patch notes, dev design explanations, etc.) will be delayed as well.

Attention players: the Battle of Scarif update in #StarWarsBattlefrontII and its accompanying Community Transmission will be delayed to later in the month of April. Thank you all for your patience and support, we’re excited to share more news soon.

Given we’re already in the mid part of April, saying something will be pushed back to “later” in the month sounds like it won’t be anytime next week. Hopefully, this is the last delay for the update, though with most (if not all) of DICE working from home due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s not really surprising that something like this got delayed. Heck, if Battlefield 5 is suffering through it, then other games from the studio will be affected as well.

Once we know more details about this upcoming update, we’ll let our readers know.

Report: Crysis Remastered Accidentally Confirmed by Official Crysis Website

Remember when earlier this week we reported that the Crysis Twitter account came back to life and is seemingly on the verge of announcing something? It seems this tease is not for a new Crysis game, but a Crysis Remastered edition.

This little tidbit was leaked by none other than the official Crysis website today. While the actual splash screen confirming the Crysis Remastered has since been pulled, there’s a screengrab below (via NintendoEverything) that confirms it’s coming to PS4, Xbox One, PC, and the Nintendo Switch.

The art shown above is embedded in the source code of the official website’s cookie page and it even has a note about the remaster.

Crysis Remastered brings new graphic features, high-quality textures, and the CRYENGINE’s native hardware- and API-agnostic ray tracing solution for PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and – for the very first time – Nintendo Switch

Based on what’s mentioned above, there won’t be multiplayer of any sort tied to this Crysis remaster, which is a shame. For those who played it, Crysis 2 (and even Crysis 3) brought a few good innovations in multiplayer, and integrated abilities in a logical way.

Given the leak, we’re expecting the official announcement to be made soon.

Are you down for Crysis Remastered or are you hoping multiplayer comes along for the ride? Perhaps this is Crytek’s way of testing the waters for a new entry in the franchise? One can hope.

PS4 Update 7.50 Released

Comng out of nowhere, Sony has released PS4 update 7.50 early today. Same as with other unannounced firmware updates, this one doesn’t really deliver anything new other than stability fixes.

The PS4 update 7.50 file is a relatively small one clocking at just 470MB.

Main features in version 7.50 update:

  • This system software update improves system performance.

And yes, that’s basically, which isn’t surprising, no? If there’s a stealth fix or something included in this patch that wasn’t announced, we’ll be sure to let people know.

Update: The Save Editor tool, Save Wizard is no longer compatible with this Firmware. We suspected much as typically firmware’s marked with the generic system improvements are aimed to fix exploits.

In other PlayStation news, don’t forget, if you’re a PS4 owner, and regardless if you’re a PlayStation Plus member or not, you can download the Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, and Journey for free as part of Sony’s new “Play at Home” initiative.

Now, if you’re a PS+ member, then you might want to check out the freebies this month as it includes Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, which rounds out the mainline Uncharted saga. Not bad for those who want to binge-game this month.

Report: New Grand Theft Auto Game in Development to Start With “Moderately Sized Release”

Given how successful the Grand Theft Auto franchise has been for Rockstar Games, the fact that a new Grand Theft Auto game is in development shouldn’t be news to anyone. Well, if this latest report is legit, it seems this new GTA title won’t be as big as its predecessors — at least from the onset.

In a new report by Kotaku where it talks about cultural changes in the studio, it mentions that Rockstar Games management has laid out a plan for the next entry in the franchise wherein it will start out with a “moderately sized release,” which will then be expanded with regular updates as time goes on. This is being done in order to mitigate stress and the video game industry’s “crunch” culture, where devs are forced to work inhuman hours per week just to make sure a game hits its development milestones and releases on time.

While we don’t know what setting this new GTA game will be, when it will be out, or whether it will really be called Grand Theft Auto 6, releasing the game in a smaller state and then updating it over time sounds like a nice plan. My only concern is, what about those who buy the game and don’t have a regular internet connection? Will this mean the game will be gimped for them?

Other than that though, I can see this working. I mean, Rockstar has been very prolific in updating GTA Online every week, right? Granted, those are just activities and rewards refreshes, but releasing portions of the game’s over time could work, but I already see lots of people not warming up to the idea, given we’ll be buying a game at full price with promise of future content down the line.

Would you be open to a new Grand Theft Auto game where you had to download parts of it over time or would you rather just have the full game released? Share your thoughts down below.

Hunt Showdown Update 1.3 Out for PC, Here are the Changes & Highlights

Those playing Hunt: Showdown on PC, if you haven’t logged on yet, you might want to as the big Hunt Showdown update 1.3 is now out! There are new equipment, new AI variations, new Legendary content and lots more!

Check out the full Hunt Showdown update 1.3 patch notes and highlights below.

Hunt Showdown update 1.3 patch notes:

New AI Variations

We have added two new AI variations to the game. You will now find the Grunt Doctor, who deals poison damage and drops a medical kit after being killed, and the Concertina Armored, covered in concertina wires causing bleeding damage, wandering in the swamps.

New Time of Day: Sunset

The Sun has set in the Bayou, a new time of day is here! You can now explore the swamps in brand new lighting. Depending on how you move through the Bayou, you can use the sun to gain an advantage over your enemies in a fight.

New Equipment

This update features two new weapon variants, the “Martini-Henry IC1 Marksman” and the “Mosin-Nagant M1891 Obrez Drum”, a new tool, the “Decoy Fuses”, as well as a new trait, ’’Levering”, allowing lever-action rifles to rapid-fire from the shoulder, giving the Winfield rifles a previously unseen new layer of tactical flexibility at close quarters.

Weapon Changes

The powerful Avtomat rocks a new look and gameplay rework this update, making it harder to control at range with a slightly increased rate of fire and more ammo drain. The update also adds a slight ear ringing effect when you unload your weapons too fast. Additionally, our current damage and projectile system sees a major balancing pass in 1.3 that helps some of the weaker ammo types to keep their damage better up to medium distance. More details can be found further below!

Improved Death Screen and Lobby

Update 1.3 brings a reworked partner inspection screen to the lobby where you are able to look at your fellow Hunters in more detail, as well as a new Death Screen, that additionally displays the enemy player’s hunter and their gear.

New Legendary Content

The Anniversary skin contest winner skin is finally here. We have also added a new Legendary Hunter as well as several additional Legendary Weapons. You can unlock those with Blood Bonds from the in-game menu. Make sure to check them out!

AI
Doctor Grunt
  • New Grunt AI variation
  • Carries a medical kit (similar to the ones players can find at resupply stations or randomly in the world) on his back that he drops when killed.
  • Wields a rusty bone saw that causes poison damage.
Concertina Armored
  • New Armored AI variation.
  • Fully entangled in concertina wire, this Armored causes bleeding damage when a Hunter gets too close.
  • More resistant to melee attacks in general.
  • Less resistant to all types of bullets.
Audio
Hunter Footsteps
  • Adjusted the pitch of footsteps to sound slightly higher for teammates and slightly lower for enemies compared to Player footsteps.
Branches
  • Slightly increased the audible distance of breaking branches that can be found in forest areas.
Arsenal
Mosin-Nagant M1891 Obrez Drum
  • An Obrez variant that features the 15 round drum magazine known from the Avtomat variant on this classic bolt-action.
  • With a 15/0 ammo pool, total ammunition remains the same however, the Obrez Drum does not need to be reloaded during a fight.
  • Available in the Mosin-Nagant M1891 unlock tree within the Book of Weapons, found between the Mosin-Nagant Sniper and Mosin-Nagant Avtomat variants.
Henry-Martini IC1 Marksman
  • A Martini-Henry variant with an attached medium-sized marksman scope for increased ranged capabilities.
  • Available at the end of the Martini-Henry unlock tree in the Book of Weapons.
Decoy Fuses
  • New tool with three charges.
  • Mimics a lit explosive when thrown, but does not explode or deal damage after its fuse time.
  • Can be used to deceive opponents and flush them out of cover.
  • Can be used to break stalemates by pushing into seemingly hazardous positions.
  • New unlock option for the Deception tree in the Book of Weapons.
Levering Trait
  • A new trait that allows lever-action rifles like the Winfield series to rapid-fire when aiming from the shoulder.
  • Hard to control, but allows shots to be fired at a staggering rate of fire. Levering gives additional flexibility in close range to stand your ground against Shotguns and other rapid-fire weapons.
  • Like “Fanning” for single-action revolvers, Levering does not work when aiming down sights (ADS).
Gunplay
  • Reworked Chaos Bomb patterns and added more weapon sounds for it to be more likely interpreted as real gunfights.
  • Improved handling of successive heavy melee attacks for some bayonet and talon variants.
  • Improved handling of successive heavy melee attacks for the crossbow.
  • Systemically – just like with Levering – Fanning now also causes slightly increased crosshair spread bloom compared to when firing it normally.
  • Consistency pass made on the time it takes to get 100% accuracy when entering scope view across all aperture, deadeye, marksman and sniper weapon variants.
  • Derringer, Throwing Knives, Decoys and Blankfire Decoys are now 100% refilled when their tool slot is randomly chosen for resupply upon looting a dead Hunter or using an Item Box. All other items still only receive one extra use per interaction.
  • Reduced the stamina cost for Heavy Attacks with the Knuckle Knife to allow 6 instead of 4 heavy attacks
Damage-Drop Rework
  • Balancing pass for weapon projectiles that increases damage-retention over distance based on bullet type:
  • In general damage drop curves have been smoothened out, resulting in most projectiles losing less damage as they travel.
  • Compact Bullets have seen the biggest boost, most notably the Winfield rifles, retaining their damage much better at medium to long-distance also resulting in overall increased effective range for headshot kills.
  • New Compact Pistol Bullet and Medium Pistol Bullet sub-classes have been introduced to better help balance rifles vs. handguns using the same Compact or Medium ammo class.
    • So far this was only the case for Long ammo with the Uppercut, which has a stronger damage drop over distance than Long ammo rifles in comparison.
    • The new pistol variants help ensure that the headshot range boost does not go through the roof for handguns for those cases where we want to boost rifles.
    • Powerful handguns like the Uppercut and Dolch now receive a stronger competition at short to medium distances as they remain largely unchanged when it comes to damage per shot or headshot range compared to their smaller cousins.

Developer Note:
The rework of how projectiles lose damage over distance is a pretty big change, touching most of the weapons in the arsenal in one way or another. However, the actual gameplay changes should be pretty minimal for the majority of these weapons, and only affect those we actually want to boost. The weapons we wanted to benefit the most from this balancing pass are the Winfield rifles and the Nagant M1895 Officer Carbine to boost Compact bullets, as well as the Vetterli Karabiner 71 and Springfield 1866 rifles for Medium bullets. All of these weapons will most noticeably have an increase in their two-tap chest shot capability, which in the case of the Winfield goes from around 25m up to 40m+ meters, making that weapon overall a lot stronger short to mid-range. Headshot range is also buffed quite a bit, placing the Winfield where the Vetterli was before, and the Vetterli going up to long distances of 150m+.

As a secondary goal, most Compact ammo handguns see a slight boost, but that is most noticeable with increased chest shot damage and extra headshot range as well, moving them to where the Winfield was positioned prior. Due to the systemic nature of these balancing changes, most Compact, Medium and Long bullet weapons see a change in some way, except for shotguns, which remain untouched! The detailed list of headshot range changes can be found below.

The Winfield has been struggling to find its place in the meta, being at an awkward spot and getting a lot of pressure from shotguns, semi-automatics, and fanning pistols at short-range as well as being outclassed – damage-wise – by long rifles at longer distances. It was very easy to either push away from a Winfield and fight at range or to close the gap and push in with rapid-fire weapons or shotguns at short-range. By combining the projectile changes with the new Levering trait, we hope that Winfield rifles start living up to their reputation as flexible weapons again. The Winfield rifles can arguably be considered as the first “assault rifles” in history, excelling in a number of different combat scenarios and being a true jack of all trades that complements the other more specialized weapons of the era in the Hunters’ arsenal nicely.

  • Derringer has its damage increased from 65 to 74
Weapon Ear-Ringing
  • Firing your weapons excessively can cause temporary hearing impairment. The loud gunfire stresses your ears and thus produces a ringing effect that will last for a few seconds.
  • This is intended as a soft-counter mechanic to spamming Avtomat, Dolch, fanning pistols, levering repeaters, or using other rapid-fire weapons, making you possibly miss some sounds around you or making it harder to keep track of enemy movements while suffering from ear-ringing.
  • The intention is to encourage players to fire their weapons with careful aim and consider their shots instead of spamming.
Avtomat Rework
  • The Mosin-Nagant M1891 Avtomat has been re-imagined with an updated look and has also been rebooted gameplay-wise.
  • Increased rate of fire from 400rpm to 545rpm.
  • Increased the minimum amount of bullets fired per burst from 2 to 3.
  • Reduced weapon handling by making recoil harder to control during rapid fire.
  • Reduced initial accuracy when fired from the shoulder.
  • When firing a 3-shot burst and force-swapping weapons to cancel firing, the remaining bullets from that burst are lost to avoid players trying to snipe with the weapon.
  • Reduced the cost slightly (see further below in the Store section).

Developer Note:
The Avtomat has always been a controversial weapon. Some love it, some hate it, or feel it has no place in the game. For us, it is an interesting weapon nonetheless, because it brings something to the table that no other weapons in Hunt’s 1895 arsenal provide: Automatic fire. In reality, machineguns were not uncommon at that time, but in the context of Hunt’s gameplay, it is quite challenging to balance as it is the only weapon of its kind and usually goes up against much slower firing designs.

With this update, we made a couple of changes to how the gameplay works using the rifle. We want to make the weapon harder to operate with a stronger ammunition drain and increased recoil, while still keeping it devastating in the right hands. The new Avtomat works best up to medium distances of 50 meters, where you have a good chance to place 2 hits on an enemy in a short tap burst. Firing over longer distances is possible of course, but players will have to fight the recoil much more aggressively and most of the time can be lucky to score a single hit per burst. Here is where the ammo drain will become noticeable the most, as the new three-round burst pattern will mean you can do that a meager five times before you run dry. At close range, the changes to the weapon are a bit more mixed: On one hand, the weapon shoots faster allowing you to pour rounds downrange at a faster speed, but on the other hand, it is less controllable overall as that recoil now hits you at a faster interval as well.

We hope that the Avtomat will be seen more as just another powerful choice in the end-game arsenal, just like the Auto-5, Dolch 96 and Nitro Express Rifle, they each come with some balancing drawbacks that allow other weapons to challenge them when exploiting their respective weaknesses. Where the Nitro’s weakness is mostly its limited ammo, and the Auto-5’s weakness is its limited range, the Avtomat has both of these weaknesses to a certain extent, but still allows for a more tactical deployment in the field overall.
