Xbox Games With Gold April 2019 Announced

It’s almost the end of the month, and that means Microsoft has announced next month’s Xbox Games With Gold! For April, Xbox One owners will get a meaty single-player title, while Xbox 360 owners have a lot of shooting in store for them.

Check out the full list of Xbox Games With Gold April 2019 list in the new trailer, as well as official description and links!

Xbox One:

The Technomancer

Take on the role of an ascending mage warrior in the action RPG title, The Technomancer. Feared and respected by all, you’ll develop four different combat skill trees based on three different fighting styles. Craft your weapons, take part in dynamic conversations and explore lost cities as your actions dramatically alter the story and world.

Outcast: Second Contact

Play the complete remake of the cult-classic that started the open world, action-adventure genre in Outcast: Second Contact. On Adelpha, an alien world as beautiful as it is dangerous, explore magic and science and make the right choices to save the destiny of two universes.

Xbox 360:

Star Wars Battlefront II

Take part in a battle far, far away in the classic Star Wars Battlefront II. Either play the campaign of a veteran clone trooper reminiscing of his time in the 501st Legion or enjoy multiple gameplay modes. Fight on foot in the front lines, use the force powers of a Jedi, or dogfight in space in your favorite starships, all in 16 exotic locations.

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2

Defend the nation from cross-border insurgents in Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2. In this tactical shooter, command your unit and complete your missions in dynamic weather conditions and a real-time day and night cycle. You’ll have 72 hours to defeat the enemy across mountainous terrain, small towns and urban environments.

Are you happy with April’s selection or were you hoping for more?

Treyarch has rolled out Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 1.16 just now, and it’s at hefty 11.8GB on PS4! While we’re waiting for the full and official patch notes, Treyarch user Arcade_Master22  has rounded up some of the changes included in the Black Ops 4 update today!

Barebones

  • No Specialists (duh). No Tac Deploy, no Ice Pick, no nothing.
  • No Operator Mods.
  • Manual healing, so you have your (kind of) standard BO4 experience.
  • No gear (that means no Stim Shot).
  • Standard Issue Equipment will be fully charged upon spawning, one use per life. Restock upon respawn.
  • Fog of War will stay as part of the experience. Squad Link, anyone?
  • The Barebones playlist will have TDM and Domination only, with both Core and Hardcore variations for all Hardcore fans.

League Play

  • New ranks are being added, from 21 to 30.
  • Tony Flame talked about League Play’s success. Players have engaged with the gamemode “even more than in BO2”.
  • The key design goal was to make players feel enticed to play the gamemode without making them feel overly punished, while also making more skilled players proud of their achievements and improvements.
  • Skill Divisions are a new feature. It layers on top of the existing League Play systems, with progression being the same as before. Players are placed on ladders based on skill, and there are 5 of them: Top 2%, 15%, 30%, 50% and everyone else. Your rank icon will have a banner that displays your skill level, based on real skill rating, and visible to all players.
  • The bonus pool will now be event-wide, not daily, and with a larger bonus amount. This allows players to gain bonuses without having to play every day. Especially useful for people that cannot play the game 18 hours a day (just kidding).
  • The team is looking to improve party matchmaking in the gamemode when the skill gap between party members is too high, leading to issues with matchmaking.
  • They are also looking into adding a CWL playlist with reworked specialist weapon recharges, making it so you have to earn them instead of self-charging over time.

Friendly Fire

  • The Friendly Fire (FF) system has received an overhaul based on players’ feedback.
  • The design goal is to desincentivize griefing, while being lenient to players who do unintentional teamkills and were punished regardless, or are stuck in that kind of toxic matches.
  • FF will act “normally” for the first 3 kills, counting as teamkills. After that, the system will change to Ricochet FF (which recently became popular in CoD WWII), reflecting all damage inflicted to teammates to yourself. Ricochet will also be activated briefly at the start of every round upon spawning.
  • This overhauled system will be avaivable to every gamemode which uses FF, like Hardcore and League Play.
  • The team will be looking for areas of improvement for the system with fan feedback.

Blackout

  • David Vonderhaar reflected on the addition of more Specialist weapons and equipment, like the Purifier. They are continuing with that additions with the Sparrow and EMP grenades.
  • The EMP grenade, Zero’s Special Issue Equipment, will temporalily stop active vehicles’ engines, preventing them from running over you and providing a tactical counterplay to them.
  • The Sparrow will only have 10 arrows, it has interesting ballistics to play with, and Vonderhaar says it’s more of a “humilliation” weapon. Only avaivable from Care Packages.
  • Vonderhaar says adding ammo types for the specialist weapons (or one type of “specialist ammo”) would be both confusing and too meta/balance-altering, will stay as it is.
  • He also says the team understands how adding this “power weapons” can be divisive amog the community. Especially after starting with the Purifier, and they have learned some lessons from that, he states.
  • The addition of EMP grenades and the ability for Barricades to affect vehicles is part of a long-term effort to balance the interactions between players and vehicles to make them more fair and less one-sided. The spawn frequency and locations for the EMP grenade will be tweaked with the data the team will be collecting on its usage.
  • People were apparently abusing perk combinations (like Medic, Outlander and Consumer) to stay in the collapse longer than intended. After a lot of (perhaps angry) tweets, Vonderhaar says the team has tweaked the collapse damage to rapidly escalate the longer you’re there, especially during later rounds.
  • There’s a new melee weapon, the Demo Hammer, and according to Vonderhaar, the idea was Tony Flame’s. Purely cosmetic, BTW. Yeah. I wanted one of Killing Floor 2′ most unique weapons in BO4… Bummer.
  • Past LTMs like Ambush have inspired current experiences like Hot Pursuit.
  • Ambush 2.0 will be coming to BO4 (not really called like that). No more ATVs or ARAVs running over you and your squadmates as THAT ISN’T THE SPIRIT OF THE MODE, according to Vonderhaar. No SDM (Vonderhaar’s favourite weapon), Shotguns are added to the mix and the 4X scope spawn rate is increased. More close range and long range, no running over, just good-ol’ Cargo Truck for your transportation needs.
  • Vondehaar says there is “an expectation” for Blackout modes to be improved and iterated upon. As such, the new gamemode will be monitored and improved/changed if necessary after its taken from rotation.
  • The After-Action Report screen will be reworked to better reflect performance and LTM-specific actions, which may include new Victory conditions for future LTM modes (hmmm…).
  • According to Vonderhaar, Operation Grand Heist’s closing days will have something “pretty neat” in store for the players he can’t talk about yet. Alcatraz-based gamemode, perhaps?

Weapon Tuning, AKA Anti-Nerfs and Reverse Buffs

  • Weapon usage variety is quite healthy, according to Tony Flame. There’s no gun as unilaterally popular as the AN-94 or the VMP, there’s more diversity in players’ selections overall.
  • Micro-buffs to SMGs’ damage and handling. No exact stats disclosed.
  • Tony Flame reflected on the Handguns’ balance philosophy in BO2. They were cheap to equip, but had redeeming qualities that made the point inversion worth it. The team went with a more “classic” approach in BO4 (as in weaker handguns), which resulted in less handgun usage.
  • As such, Handguns are getting proper buffed, it seems. No nerfs whatsoever. No exact stats disclosed.
  • They try to balance both “casual” and Pro communities’ feedback to make decisions about weapon tuning.
  • KN-57’s range and ABR-223’s ammo and handling are being tweaked for the Pro meta. The Rampart-17 had a change to its global flinch while not aiming (past change, it seems).
  • Now, here’s the interesting one: The Paladin HB-50 will get a magazine size buff from 5 to 6. Slower mid and full reloads to compensate.
  • SDM’s fire rate is getting buffed.
  • And probably the biggest one: Hit Detection improvement. Tony Flame says they designed a system that has been tracking issues with Hit Detection for quite some time now, and now they have the data to take action on those issues. Could this finally make Hit Detection better? I hope so.

Infected

  • First added to a Treyarch CoD game in BO3 with help from Raven Software, fan-favourite Infected now returns to BO4, totally developed in-house, coming right around the corner (that likely means not tomorrow, sorry for the confusion!). Quite self-explanatory, not much more revealed. Here’s hoping for unique gameplay twists and 18 players! (wonder which one is more likely…)

Deathmatch Domination

  • Inspired by Miles Leslie’ presumed inability to PTFO (lol), it’s the gamemode we all know and love, with a spin: kills contribute to the overall team score, regardless of captured flags. The score limit in both halves of the match will be 200, to add up to a total of 400 (similar to the Endurance variation of the gamemode). Also coming later this Operation (apologies for the confusion!). Lone Wolfs rejoice!

Arsenal Sandstorm

  • One of BO4 classics return with a sandy makeover, changing overall visibility on the map and making sniping and high-powered scopes usage more difficult and tactical.

Reactive Camo change

  • NOW YOU CAN EQUIP AVAIVABLE REACTIVE CAMOS WITHOUT UNLOCKING GOLD FOR A WEAPON!!! Now I can use my reactive camos without no-lifing Dark Matter on my shitty internet connection. Thanks Treyarch!

BONUS POINTS INTEL

  • Treyarch made it so the Scorestreak kills-based medals now award at least 100 XP. Cool!
  • They are looking into lifting some of the game’s current restrictions (like they just did with the reactive camos), and are asking for fan feedback to identify and work on them. Discuss away!
  • The new Declassified episode goes in-depth on how sound design and the creative process behind it can complement the game and the feelings it evokes to the players. Brian Tuey and Jack Wall go in a good amount of detail about how Black Ops music is made, and how it helped to shape the sub-franchise’s identity.
  • Vonderhaar also talked about how sound design can be used as a designing tool, transmitting important gameplay info to players while freeing precious HUD space and adding into the inmersive feeling a game can produce.
  • Apparently, the new Sniper Rifle is called “Vendetta”, likely a reference to the Russian campaign mission in CoD: WAW where you first meet Viktor Reznov. Source.

Once the official patch notes are out, we’ll update the post.

Unearthed by reliable dataminer Shrugtal, and made into a handy one-page image by Reddit user FozenFroh (image used with permission), you can check out the Apex Legends upcoming content which includes the addition of the L-Star lightmachine gun (classified in the leak as a Legendary weapon like the Kraber and Mastiff), Leviathans (!), a new Legend in Wattson, and more!

Note that given the info here were collected from datamining the game, and from the trailer and whatnot, there’s no guarantee that they’ll make it out in Season 1 — or if at all. Remember, Respawn has already commented on datamined leaked info, so take everything with a pinch of salt for now.

We’ve reached out to EA and will update the post if get a statement or hear back from them.

Would you be happy to see all these drop in Apex Legends’ first season or is that too much to ask? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Anthem Update 1.0.4 Now Live, Patch Notes Reveal Bug Fixes, Loot Changes & More

Heads up, Freelancers!  The latest Anthem patch — Anthem update 1.0.4 — is now live on all platforms! Tagged as Anthem update 1.06 on PS4 (2.5GB on Xbox One, and 2.6GB on PC), it clocks in at 2.3GB, and has a ton of fixes!

Thankfully, BioWare has released the complete Anthem update patch notes, which you can check out below (via Reddit):

NEW FEATURES

  • Legendary Missions: Allows you to replay critical path missions again with a much higher difficulty level. One mission will be available per day that has no limit on the number of times it can be completed. These missions offer a new challenge and require team coordination to achieve victory!
  • Elysian Caches: Earn Elysian Keys by completing daily challenges. These keys can be used on Elysian Caches, which appear at the end of each Stronghold after the boss is defeated to unlock vanity and crafting materials. Opening an Elysian Cache creates loot for each member of the Expedition. There are 67 unique vanity unlocks available, including vinyls, victory poses, emotes and arrivals. You will never get a duplicate vanity item! This is our first version of the ruleset for Elysian Caches in the game and we’ll look forward to your feedback and the data we gather from your play.

  • See in the Dark: Fixed performance on Xbox One X when getting close to the echo lock.
  • Matthias mission: Fixed pathfinding for Elementals that could get stuck behind a chest.
  • Fixed issue with cinematic freezing during the third Dax mission.
  • What Freelancers Do: Fixed ammo depots popping into the world.
  • Clarified objective text on how players can collect Corium.
  • Incursion: fixed a number of voice over issues.
  • Fixed a number of loot exploits in Matthias Legendary Contracts.

  • Fixed grammatical issue in The Legion of Dawn library entry.
  • The First Cypher journal entry has been moved to the Cyphers section.
  • Audio: Cancelled audio when the player cancels out of launching an expedition.

Gear/Abilities:

  • Fixed text for several Masterwork items that caused incorrect % values for ultimate charge, the functionality has not changed :
    • Ranger Frag Grenade (Last Argument)
    • Interceptor Venom Spray (Viper’s Bite)
  • Fixed text in the Forge where statistic bars for gear was showing as “Status” when it should say “Effect”:
    • Acid Effect
    • Ice Effect
    • Fire Effect
    • Electric Effect
  • Fixed an issue where the Spark beam visual effect would not be present when turning away from the player using it.
  • Fixed Masterwork Gear so that they now progress the Uncommon, Rare and Epic challenges of that Gear.

Javelin Components:

  • The Mark of Ruin and Amulet of Winter Storm Masterwork components should now correctly be applying their respective bonuses, have their corrected text and icons, and should be functional.
  • Fixed an issue with the Mark of Clarity Storm component showing a 0 sec cooldown, now correctly shows 1 second.
  • Fixed text for Interceptor Double-Edged Inscription component to be more clear on effects:
    • “Increases all damage dealt by X% of base and reduces damage resistance by X%.”
  • Fixed text for several Masterwork items that caused incorrect % values for ultimate charge, the functionality has not changed :
    • Badge of Devastation (Masterwork Ranger Component)
    • Emblem of Destruction (Masterwork Colossus Component)
  • Fixed an issue where the Ablative Shielding (Masterwork Colossus Component) was not correctly granting the additional armor and shields noted in the text. This is updated on the player stats, but may not be resolved for the UI stat bars for the component.

  • Fixed statistic bar for weapons in Forge UI where “Magazine Size” was incorrectly labeled “Clip Size”.
  • Fixed an error where the Thunderbolt of Yvenia’s lightning damage wasn’t scaling correctly for the Storm javelin.

    • Upgraded Relentless: Best balanced gun in this class. Detonates a combo explosion on primed targetsin the area upon reloading

  • Fixed an issue where ultimate charge (20 charge) wasn’t correctly being awarded to players when reviving a downed teammate.
  • Fixed an issue where “Weakpoint Hit” triggers were unintentionally counted when hitting enemy shields.
  • Fixed an issue where the amount of armor segments displayed on the player HUD was incorrect when compared to their actual armor values. This is only the UI half of the reported “health bug” problem.
  • Fixed an issue where players could load into an expedition without having all of their inscription bonuses properly loaded. This would result in various problems (less shields, health, max ammo, etc) on the Javelin. We believe this should resolve the non-UI aspect of the reported “health bug” problem as this should now correctly load javelin health/shields.
  • Fixed a problem where a player could be more easily killed through shields and armor when first entering the game for the first time on a new client build.
  • Fixed an issue where swapping weapons at the start of the Storm Ultimate would give you a full heal without using the Ultimate charge.

Creatures:

  • Fixed an issue where the lightning effect and abilities would leave a shader effect on the Korox creature unintentionally.
  • Fixed an issue where defeated creatures would sometimes go back into idle ragdoll positions unintentionally.
  • Additional reduction and tuning to health of The Monitor boss fight in the Heart of Rage stronghold

Inscriptions:

  • The hip fire inscription bonus will no longer be applied to Sniper Rifles.
  • The “Support +X% Luck” inscription has had its text changed to “+X% Luck”.
  • The Weapon Reload stat inscription was not correctly applying to player weapons and has been corrected
  • Fixed text on Blast Damage inscription so that it no longer includes “Weap” in the text to more clearly convey that it applies to all blast damage not just to weapons.
  • The text for Shield Refresh and Shield Delay inscriptions were incorrectly swapped on items and have been corrected. These inscriptions will now reflect the intended effect:
    • Shield Delay: Increases the speed at which your shield recharges
    • Shield Refresh: Reduces the time between when your shield breaks and when it starts regenerating
  • The “+X% Pistol Ammo” inscription has been updated and now specifically references the Heavy Pistol “+X% Hvy Pistol Ammo”.

Battlefield 5 Chapter 3 Weekly Challenges:

Finally, DICE has divulged a few more details regarding Trial By Fire, which includes a new game mode and more.

What is Firestorm?
Free for all Battlefield V players, Firestorm lets you fight, scavenge, and survive as a deadly ring of fire encloses the largest Battlefield map ever. As mentioned, this is battle royale, reimagined for Battlefield. That means objectives to capture, combat vehicles to pilot, and Reinforcements to call in as you fight to become the last squad or soldier standing. If you want to learn more about all the different aspects of Firestorm, the Firestorm web page is a great start.

What’s Combined Arms and what new updates are coming to it?
Combined Arms is the Battlefield V co-op experience, where you can improve your skills before taking on multiplayer by squading up and fighting AI troops. As Combined Arms gets updated in April, you’ll get to enjoy matchmaking, two Fjell 652 map missions, and a Hardcore mode.

What can you tell me about the Mercury map?
When this Battle of Greece map arrives in May, you’ll experience unexplored fronts as the fight moves to the Mediterranean. Here, you’ll take on a massive invasion along the Cretan coast, based on the real-life events of Operation Mercury. The Battle of Greece will continue with another new map coming in Chapter 4.

What is Outpost mode?
Spread the word and find new recruits in this multiplayer mode, coming in June. In Outpost, you’ll build and secure objectives to ensure your team assembles enough soldiers and resources to endure through the fight. We’re still putting final touches to Outpost, and we’ll have more intel to share soon.

Any other game modes coming?
Squad Conquest, a multiplayer experience we introduced during Chapter 2: Lightning Strikesis coming back for a limited time during Chapter 3: Trial by Fire. In this fast-paced, 8-versus-8 take on Conquest, two pairs of opposing squads compete to strategically capture and hold flags until they exhaust the enemy team of their Respawn Tickets.

What are mode variants?
During Tides of War, we’re adding twists on existing multiplayer modes based on new ideas and community wishes. The idea is to test introduce these mode variants for a limited time and, potentially, bring them back if they’re popular. For example, the first mode variant you’ll see in Chapter 3: Trial by Fire is Grind – a tight, close-quarter take on Conquest. Here, we’ve reduced the playing field and number of flags on the Twisted Steel, Devastation, Rotterdam, and Narvik maps to create high-intensity infantry areas – meat grinders if you will – to cater for a certain play style. Fans of Battlefield 3‘s Operation Metro and Battlefield 1‘s Fort de Vaux will love this one.

Whew! That’s a lot to take in! DICE has also squashed the body dragging gameplay mechanic and explained why.

Mortal Kombat 11 Old Skool vs. New Skool Trailer Released, More Fighters Confirmed for Roster

As part of today’s PlayStation State of Play presentation, NetherRealm Studios prepared a new Mortal Kombat 11 trailer, and this one pits the old versions of fighters against their current, more edgier selves!

Given how the game’s story campaign is centered around time travel, it was only a matter of time until we saw the old school design in the game.

In addition to that, three new fighters have been confirmed to be part of the MK11 roster!

  • Liu Kang, the greatest of the Shaolin monks, was an orphan adopted and trained in the arts of combat by the Shaolin order. He was handpicked by Raiden to be Earthrealm’s Mortal Kombat champion and chief defender.

  • Kung Lao joined the Shaolin monks in a quest to become Earthrealm’s new Mortal Kombat champion. Reckless and rebellious, but courageous and indomitable, Kung Lao fights to prove worthy of his glorious ancestors.

  • Major Jackson “Jax” Briggs was a decorated veteran of the Special Forces whose life changed forever when he fought in the Mortal Kombat tournament. His duty was now clear—he would defend Earthrealm against Outworld and the Netherrealm.

For other Mortal Kombat 11 news and announcements, go check out the Noob Saibot reveal trailer here, and this other one showcasing Kotal Kahn.

Battlefield 5 Body Dragging Feature Cancelled by DICE, Says It Would “Negatively Impact” Gameplay

Back when Battlefield 5 was announced, one of the new features DICE talked about was how players can drag friendly soldiers out of harm’s way during a match. Well, it’s been months since release, and the Battlefield 5 body dragging mechanic still isn’t in the game! As it turns out, there’s a good reason for that, as it’s cancelled.

In a new blog post by DICE (via DannyOnPC) regarding the new Operation “Trial By Fire,” the studio talked about the Battlefield 5 body dragging feature and what happened to it.

What happened with the Soldier Dragging feature?
Having discovered that soldier dragging would negatively impact the core gameplay loop, we’ve decided to not add the feature to Battlefield V. To make soldier dragging look and play well, complex and long animations are necessary. This would make reviving feel slow and unresponsive, which would affect the pacing of Battlefield V’s gameplay.

We’ll continue to explore ways to improve Battlefield V, but in doing so we have to ensure that the core elements, the essence, if you will, of the game remain unaffected. It’s been great reading the discussions on this subject and your feedback continues to play a part in all our decisions. Please keep that feedback coming, and we’ll keep consuming it.

There you have it, folks! Soldier/body dragging in Battlefield 5 won’t be available at all. Luckily, there’s a new game mode out now that should help you forget about that.

Is this bad news for you or do you think it wouldn’t have worked out the way DICE intended it anyway?

Apple Arcade Announced, Game Subscription Service for Mobile, Desktop and More

Just last week, Google announced its own gaming streaming platform called Stadia. Now, if you think that’s out of left field, it seems Apple is joining the gaming bandwagon as well, though in a different way.

In a press event today, Apple announced “Apple Arcade,” which Apple calls as the “world’s first  game subscription service” for mobile, desktop and the living room.

According to the announcement, Apple Arcade will feature over 100 new and exclusive games, which includes original releases from legendary game creators like Will Wright, Ken Wong,  Hironobu Sakaguchi, and more.

What’s more, Apple says that Apple Arcade will give gamers the chance to try any game from its collection that are “all-you-can-play,” will have no ads, no ad tracking, or additional purchases, and will “respect user privacy.”

Check out the Apple Arcade trailers below.

According to Apple, Apple Arcade will introduce new games that will not be available on any other mobile platform, or in any other subscription service. Every game will be playable offline, and many games will offer support for game controllers. And for those thinking about it, yes, the Apple Arcade titles’ progress can be switched or carried over if you’re switching devices. So if you can pick up on your iPad where you left off on your iPhone, and so on.

Apple Arcade is set to launch in fall 2019 in more than 150 countries, and will be featured as a new tab in the App Store.

Samurai Shodown Slices Its Way Out This June, Check Out the Gameplay Now

Old school gamers, do you remember Samurai Shodown? The weapons-based fighting game released in the ’90s for the Neo Geo? Today, SNK and Athlon have announced Samurai Shodown; a reboot of the classic 2D fighting game, which will bring new characters, features and more this year!

Check out the gameplay trailer below.

Once again set in the late 18th century, after the events of Samurai Shodown V and prior to the events of the original game, Samurai Shodown will see the return of thirteen classic characters, including Haohmaru, Earthquake and Galford, who will be joined by three brand new characters to the series. Additional characters will also be available via post-launch DLC.

Developed in-house at SNK by the same team that brought us King of Fighters XIV, Samurai Shodown features a host of modes, such as Story, Practice, Online Battle and multiple offline battle modes. The new game will also debut an innovative new asynchronous online mode called “Dojo” that uses deep machine learning to create a CPU-avatar that learns from players’ actions during offline modes and creates a Ghost AI character. Players will be able to upload their Ghost to the leaderboards and also download Ghost data from other players. Players can take on Ghosts in 1v1 battle, or take on the Ironman Challenge and attempt to take down up to 100 ghosts in one go.

The Samurai Shodown release date is set for June for the PS4 and Xbox One, while the Nintendo Switch and PC versions will come sometime in Q4 2019.

Report: Another New Apex Legend Character Scheduled to Drop in Season 1

While Respawn Entertainment might have just released Octane as a new Legend in Apex Legends’ first season (Season 1), it seems we might be in for another new character before the season’s over.

Over on the PlayStation website listing for Apex Legends, it mentions “two new characters” will launch over the course of Season 1! We’ve screengrabbed it in case it gets edited out.

All-new Legends and loot – Two new characters will launch over the course of the season but in the meantime, look out for a new weapon set to launch as the season progresses. Best of all, each new Legend and weapon will launch with a full set of cosmetics to unlock.

Read that again! It specifically mentions “two new characters” which means we’ll get a new Apex Legend character announcement or tease soon. Or this could very well be something that Sony has posted in error.

We’ve contacted EA and will update the story once we get a response.

For more on the Battle Pass and Season 1, check out the known info here.

Battlefield 5 Tides of War Chapter 3 Challenges Unearthed via Game Files, Here’s How Many Are Tied to Firestorm

In every Tides of War chapter of Battlefield 5, DICE always rolls out a new set of challenges that rotate every week which gives players something to aim for whenever they’re playing. With Battlefield 5’s battle royale mode Firestorm set to hit tomorrow, it seems the Battlefield 5 Tides of War chapter 3 challenges will have a lot tied to the mode, which isn’t surprising.

Unearthed via datamining the game files by Reddit user temporyal, the full list of Battlefield 5 Tides of War chapter 3 challenges can be seen below! Note that these could change at anytime, so don’t read everything you read as things that are set in stone.

Hi guys,

here is a little data mining sneak peak to the upcoming Tides of War weekly challenges. Please be aware of the following things:

  1. Some weeks are still in development (especially week 4) and anything can change
  2. I can’t provide you actual values for the challenges – so I replaced the variables with X
  3. Right now I am not able to see the different “paths” of the weekly challenges – therefore it’s just a list and not a tree
  4. Usually the first and the last challenge are single and therefore have to be done
  5. Expect a lot of weeks to offer some kind of alternative route in the middle without focusing too much on Firestorm

Week 1 (March 28 – April 4)

FIRESTORM:

Face the Firestorm and tackle challenges introducing you to battle royale, reimagined for Battlefield.

Reward: Firestorm face paint.

Challenges:

FIRESTORM

Welcome to Firestorm! Parachute onto the peninsula of Halvoy on your own or with up to 3 squad mates, scavenge for supplies and fight for your life. There are no second chances in Firestorm, if you bleed out or are finished off you are out of the game.

Earn X score in Firestorm.

SCROUNGER

Strongboxes left behind by Sulis can be found in built up areas and abandoned military bases. They contain a wide variety of supplies including weapons, gadgets and healing items.

Open X strongboxes in Firestorm.

WHAT IS MINE IS MINE

As the firestorm closes in, supply points at various points of the map may become active and can be located by the rising barrage balloons. If you or your team can hold one of these points you will be rewarded with rare and epic weapons and reinforcements. Prepare to fight as other teams will also be after these rare resources.

Capture X supply point in Firestorm.

WE LUCKY FEW

The wheat has been separated from the chaff, only 16 remain in the Firestorm. Can you make it to the end?

Make it to the last 16 in Firestorm.

REAPER

There is more than one way to skin a cat. Utilize every tool at your disposal.

Kill X enemies in any game mode.

LET THE SUNSHINE IN

The Sulis organisation imported a lot of military hardware to the peninsula to protect their research. Vehicle lockups can be found at strategic locations that may contain abandoned combat vehicles and other valuable supplies. Alarms sound whilst you are opening them, alerting everyone in your vicinity of your location.

Open X vehicle lockup in Firestorm.

GEAR UP

Everyone starts the game with a basic armor vest, but you will need to find armor plates to put in it before it becomes effective at absorbing damage. Rarer vests can be found that can accommodate more armor plates at the same time.

Equip X Armor Plates in Firestorm.

NO TIME TO BLEED

In Firestorm you can restore your health with healing syrettes. These common items heal a portion of your health over a short period of time and can also be used to heal team mates.

Heal yourself or squadmates for X health.

WORKHORSE

Work as a squad, complete objectives, defeat enemies, utilize your gadgets and stay alive. All of these will increase your score.

Earn X score in any game mode.

Week 2 (April 4 – April 11)

THE STRONG SURVIVE:

With the heat turned up in Firestorm, use teamplay, aggression, and all the hardware you can find to succeed.

Reward: Firestorm-themed M30 Drilling skin.

Challenges:

SCORCHED EARTH

Practice makes perfect! The skills you learn in other game modes will serve you equally well in Firestorm

Earn X score in any game mode.

PERFECT FOR EACH OTHER

Victory is in sight, but be wary – everyone that remains is either very good (or very lucky).

Make it to the last 8 in Firestorm.

LAYER BY LAYER

Personal armor can make the difference between winning or losing a firefight. When you break an enemies armor push your advantage before they can replace their damaged plates.

Break the armor of one enemy in Firestorm.

SWISS CHEESE

A submachine gun (SMG) is a fully automatic weapon that fires small calibre ammo allowing for more accuracy at a high rate of fire.

Inflict X damage with SMGs in any game mode.

HELL ON WHEELS

Vehicles in Firestorm have limited fuel and ammo so use them wisely or find supplies to replenish them. Stockpiles of fuel and ammo can be commonly found at abandoned Sulis military camps.

Kill or assist in killing X enemies while in a vehicle in Firestorm.

FIREWORKS

Explosive ordinance is great at taking out vehicles but can also be used tactically to destroy buildings or flush enemies out of cover.

Inflict X damage with explosives in Firestorm.

GANG UP

A squad that fights together survives together. Concentrate your fire to take out enemies quicker.

Get X Kills or Squad Kill Assists in Firestorm.

SALT AND PEPPER

Shotguns are very common and excel at close range engagements but quickly become less effective at longer ranges. Always make sure to have an alternate type of weapon equipped.

Inflict X damage with shotguns in any game mode.

TABLES TURNED

Even though you are isolated on the ground, help is not far away if you find the right equipment. Reinforcement flares can call in vehicle and supply drops or even heavy artillery support.

Deploy X Reinforcements in Firestorm.

RAMPAGE

Better equipment can be found at named locations on the map, but there will be more competition. If you are after action, then these locations are the place to be.

Inflict X damage in one life in any game mode.

BIG GAME ON THE HUNT

Vehicles give you great firepower and mobility, but are vulnerable to all explosives. Keep moving and be the one who shoots first.

Inflict X damage using vehicles or against vehicles in any gamemode.

Week 3 (April 11 – April 18)

TO THE LAST:

Apply all of your Firestorm skills to survive the inferno of tasks leading up to a red-hot reward.

Reward: Firestorm-themed Fire Axe melee weapon.

Ingame Description: If a building catches fire, cut it down to save the neighbourhood. The same applies to enemy combatants, burning or no.

Challenges:

TWO KINDS OF PEOPLE

Halfway there. Don’t get overconfident as the encroaching firestorm means you are more likely to run into enemies.

Make it to the last 32 in Firestorm.

THROUGH HELL AND BACK

V for Victory! Can you emerge from the Firestorm ahead of all others.

Win a round of Firestorm.

HIGH HORSE

Capturing objectives in a vehicle might seem like a good idea but it could leave you vulnerable to an ambush.

Capture X objectives or resupply points while in a vehicle.

SURVIVALIST

You will be rewarded for just staying alive, but more risky actions give even more score.

Earn X score in Firestorm.

MEAN STREAK

The best defense is a good offence. Taking out the enemy before they kill you is the only way to ensure victory.

Kill X enemies in one round of Firestorm.

DEAD EYE

Make every bullet count – headshots are the most efficient way of taking out the enemy.

Kill X enemies with headshots in one round of any game mode.

WRATH

If you down an enemy don’t overextend yourself trying to finish them off – their squadmates will probably be nearby.

Down X enemies in Firestorm.

TREASURE HUNT

Exploring the stockpiles of equipment left behind by Sulis is not only the best way of equipping yourself it also denies that equipment from your enemies.

Open X vehicle lockups in Firestorm.

THE HAMMER

Calling in an artillery strike with a Sector Artillery, V1 or JB2 rocket reinforcement can turn the tide of the battle. In Firestorm make sure your squad is not in the impact radius as the explosion doesn’t discriminate friend from foe.

As a squad kill X enemies with Sector Artillery, V1 or JB2 flying bomb reinforcements in any game mode.

AVARICE

Resupply points are the most reliable way of acquiring the rarest equipment but also the riskiest as everyone can see your capture progress. Prepare to defend your position.

Capture X resupply points in Firestorm.

NOT TIME TO REST

Scavenge. Fight. Survive. Only the best will outrun the firestorm.

Earn X score in one round of Firestorm.

NONE LEFT BEHIND

Keeping your squad on their feet is essential to your survival. All squad mates have the ability to revive each other if one has been downed by the enemy.

Revive squadmates or be revived by squadmates X times in any game mode.

Week 4 (April 18 – April 25)

BITE THE BULLET:

Fight in smaller teams and intense combat zones in Grind, a focused and fast-paced take on Conquest.

Reward: Commando Carbine (Medic class).

Note: This week seems to be work in progress and therefore very fragmented and not final.

Challenges:

TOOTH AND NAIL

In Firestorm if you are downed you are not totally out of the fight. Defend yourself with a sidearm or melee weapon until an ally can revive you.

Deal X damage with melee weapons or sidearms in Firestorm while downed.

STRONGER TOGETHER

Working with your squad is essential to survival in Firestorm. If an ally is downed, they can be revived and back into the fight if you get to them before they bleed out. If you are downed, you can make it easier to be revived by crawling into cover.

Anthem Has Earned Over $100 Million in Digital Revenue Since It Launched

While Anthem might not have been the critical success EA and BioWare were hoping it’d be, it seems the sci-fi loot shooter is still earning a lot of money for parent company EA.

In a new report published by research firm SuperData, it mentions that Anthem revenue via digital has now surpassed $100 million since launch, and had an “above-average” download rate. It also mentions that in-game spending came in at $3.5 million across both platforms.

Check out the top grossing titles worldwide for February 2019.

This is definitely good news for Anthem players. While BioWare has shown no signs of stopping support anytime soon, the fact that the game is earning quite a bit of money for publisher EA should alleviate the concerns of some that it might be left in the dust. Speaking of support, BioWare has confirmed that a new patch is set to drop next week, and here’s some of the planned changes in it.

Battlefield 5 New Game Mode Info Datamined: 5v5, Doctrines, Classes & More Unearthed

While Battlefield 5 players are eagerly awaiting the release of the game’s battle royale mode called Firestorm this March 25, it seems DICE has something else already brewing.

In yesterday’s Battlefield 5 roadmap for the remainder of 2019, DICE mentioned a Battlefield 5 new game mode that’s 5v5, and will be out during Chapter 4. Thanks to Reddit user temporyal, we now have a ton more info regarding the mode! This 5v5 mode willl feature what it calls “Doctrines,” vehicles, classes and more! If you’re looking for a more fast-paced Battlefield game mode, this might be it.

5v5 mode (unknown name, scheduled for Tides of War Chapter 4)

Doctrines

Before each match the squad leader has to nominate a “doctrine” for his squad. Doctrines are basically Special Forces from the WW2 era and determine what kind of commandos and bonuses will be available to your squad.

Doctrines I could gather:

  • SAS Raiders (Great Britain): “Who Dares Wins”
  • Army Rangers (USA): “Rangers Lead the Way”
  • Devil’s Brigade (USA / Canada): no details
  • Volksgrenadiers (Germany): “Tapfer und Treu”
  • MSK (Germany): no details (MSK seems to be the “Marinestoßtruppkompanie”)
  • Decima Mas (Italy): “Memento Audere Semper”

The doctrine confirmation is done by the other squad members. The squad can confirm the doctrine or select a new one with a majority vote. The leaders can change their vote.

Each doctrine comes with three bonuses for your squad. Here is a list of all currently implemented effects:

  • Blast Armor: Incoming damage from explosives is reduced by 33%.
  • Tenacity: Health regen is faster and heals to full.
  • Recon Plane: A recon plane that spots enemies it flies over can be purchased with requisition.
  • Bipod Expertise: Bipods can be deployed while crouching.

  • Increased Throwables: Starting number of grenades is increased by one.
  • Expert Tracker: Spotted enemies remain marked on the map for two additional seconds after breaking line of sight.
  • Increased Munitions: Starting ammunition for all gadgets is increased.
  • Fast Fortifications: Fortifications can be constructed with the build tool in half the usual time.

  • Intestinal Fortitude: The last living squad memeber gains the ability to squad reveive regardless of chosen kit.
  • Supply Drop: Airdropped ammunition and medical supplies are available for purchase with requisition.
  • Squad Deploy: Squad spawns can be purchased with requisition.
  • Artillery Strike: Artillery Strikes can be purchased with requisition.
  • Vehicle Incendiary: Tanks purchased with requisition are equipped with incendiary weapons.

Classes & Kits

Now every squad member has 30 seconds to choose a class / kit for the fight. These kits seem to be a mix between our current class combat roles and the former more specialized archetypes.

Official game info: “KIT SELECT: Select a specialized Commando or bring a soldier from your Company.”

List of the currently available kits:

Captain

  • Raid Captain
  • Control Captain

Assault

  • Range Assault
  • Saboteur
  • Shock Assault

Medic

  • Combat Medic
  • Trauma Surgeon

Support

  • Combat Engineer
  • Grenadier
  • Gunner

Recon

  • Combat Sniper
  • Infiltrator
  • Tactician

There is also a random option if you don’t care at all. Only one captain and one vehicle driver can be present in a squad.

You can gain a very high amount of requisition points to buy reinforcements during matches for spotting, spoofing, reviving, healing and providing ammo to encourage class specific gameplay and teamwork in your squad.

Important: This mode comes with a deactivated buddy revive system.

Every kit has special traits and equipment. Here are some special gadgets:

  • MMG Emplacement
  • Double Barrel Flare Gun
  • TN17 Radio Jammer (spoofing / counters probably a recon plane)
  • Panzerbüchse 39 (Anti Tank Rifle)
  • Breaching Charge
  • M1A1 Bazooka
  • Type 89 Knee Mortar
  • Anti Tank Shaped Charge

Vehicles

The game mode features one active vehicle per squad. Right now only four tanks are implemented:

Axis:

  • Panzer 38t
  • Panzer IV

Allies:

  • Staghound
  • Valentine

Each vehicle has a special variant for every doctrine (e.g. Volksgrenadier Panzer 38t or Army Rangers Staghound).

Maps

The 5v5 game mode features new maps according to one developer on twitter. Some of the names have already been leaked and they are tagged as exclusive for this mode. I’ll guess they’re just placeholders at the moment but they already tell you something about the setting. Unfortunately I can’t give you a lot of insights:

Map: Provence

Personal Note: Loading screen like picture already leaked.

Early look at Provence map:

Map: Norway

Personal Note: A developer already tweeted about this one (“we’re not done with Norway”). Could be a fraction of the Firestorm map or maybe some parts from the war story campaign.

Map: Libya

Personal Note: A modified version of Aerodrome or parts from the war story?

Map: Casquets

Wikipedia: “British commandos of the Small Scale Raiding Force made two raids during the Second World War on the lighthouse, following the German occupation of the Channel Islands in 1940. The first raid, Operation Dryad, took place on 2–3 September 1942 and the seven keepers were taken back to England as prisoners of war.”

Personal Note: Could have a Heligoland vibe if you remember the map from BF1.

Map: Rotterdam

Personal note: Probably not the standard Rotterdam we know.

To balance the results a match consists of two rounds per map so every squad can be attacker and defender.

Internal Sub Game Modes

Please be aware that this is not team deathmatch. Here are the modes you will play against the other squad:

  • Extraction
  • Breakthrough
  • King of the Hill
  • Holdout

I guess maps will be focused on only one game mode.

In “Holdout” the attacking team has limited time to raid two supply caches in a sector. Each secured cache grants the squad one point. The other team earns points by defending the supply caches. If the time is up or both caches got raided the match progresses to the next sector of the map. The match winner is the squad with the most points in the end.

Other game modes

Conquest: Grind

Official description: “Wreak havoc and fight over strategic locations in this chaotic twist on the Conquest game mode.”

Tank Superiority

Official description: “Tanks against tanks in all out war: Hold the majority of the flags and eliminate enemy tanks to win.”

Squad Conquest Tournament

Three rounds per map, still 8v8, can’t say much more about that. No official description available.

While I wouldn’t be surprised to see all of these make it into the game, don’t forget, some of the files unearthed could be placeholder files, or scrapped altogether. In short: content listed here and in the final release version might not 100 percent the same.

Based on what we’ve read now, this looks to be a faster-paced infantry-focused affair, which is welcome in my book. Regardless of what info makes it out come the new game mode’s release, Battlefield 5 players are in for a treat come Chapter 4!

Battlefield 5 Firestorm Info: Weapons, Vehicles, Gadgets and More All in One Place

Are you looking forward to Battlefield 5’s battle royale mode Firestorm? While we’re just days away from it being available, players might have a lot of questions left in terms of objectives, gameplay mechanics and more.

Fortunately for us, DICE has opened the dam when it comes to Battlefield 5 Firestorm info! We’ve compiled everything all in one place to make this as easy to read and digest as possible. So bookmark this page if you’re planning on spending a significant amount of time in Firestorm!

battlefield 5 firestorm info

Firestorm Overview:

  • Battlefield Core Gameplay: Firestorm comes with Battlefield V’s core gunplay and destruction intact. But expect surprising changes that’ll shake-up battle royale as you know it.
  • Halvøy: This snow-covered peninsula draws the best soldiers into combat on the biggest Battlefield map ever.
  • Objectives: Play as a squad to secure Re-supply Points and Vehicle Lockups that are strewn across the map for a chance at wielding vehicles and gear from Firestorm’s most valuable stockpiles.
  • Combat Vehicles: Command an armory of devastating vehicles over land, air, and sea – including five new vehicles for Firestorm. If you want the power, you’ll have to take the risk and challenge other squads to be the first to unlock the best combat vehicles from Objectives.
  • Reinforcements: Part of Firestorm’s rare loot, call down Reinforcements like the V-1 Rocket, artillery strikes, and combat vehicles to wreak havoc on the battlefield. On the flipside, order supply drops to aid your squad in an instant.
  • Destruction: Firestorm brings true Battlefield destruction to the battle royale genre, making for unparalleled moments and unique tactical opportunities. No more camping in buildings when a V-1 rocket can blow your house in.

Conquer as a Squad, or Solo

Roll four-person deep and face the Firestorm with allies or go at it solo. Whether playing with friends or strangers, teamwork against the persistent ring of fire is the difference between singed hairs and a boiling death.

The top way to erase enemy squads is to move, scavenge, and fight as a team. There are no second chances in Firestorm, if you bleed out or are finished off by an enemy, you’re out for good. Rely on your squad for revives, resupplies, equipment trades, and locking down Objectives (see below).

You’ll be able to enter Firestorm with any soldier from your Company. Although none of the class perks or Combat Roles are available in Firestorm, the visual customizations from your Company do carry over.

Airborne Entry

After a quick stop in the player lobby, you’ll be flown above the map and will have seconds to decide what section of the map you and your squad should land on.

While freefalling, landmarks, supply points, and the Firestorm itself will appear on the map. The location of your squad mates is also visible on the mini-map and each squad member has a unique color so that you can better tell who’s where.

Halvøy, the Largest Battlefield Map Ever

No one knows when the first burning structure was reported on Halvøy. There were orders to evacuate, but now the only way to escape is to be the last squad standing.

Halvøy is 10 times the size of Hamada – currently the largest Battlefield V map. The map is characterized by 12 landmarks that function as desirable loot locations. With so much real estate, the map favors the dirt, but fighting in the surrounding ocean or the sky above carries tactical advantages.

Study our Halvøy map for more ways to prepare for the brewing storm.

The Firestorm’s Path

The only zone hotter than the one you’re landing on is in the encroaching ring of fire. This is a disaster no soldier can train for. The tsunami of heat will incinerate everything – buildings, soldiers, and the ground they walk on – so you should stay away.

The Firestorm appears from the moment of deployment and shrinks the playable space on the map over time. This will push all soldiers toward a central location, forcing survivors to an inevitable showdown.

Once you land, prepare for a fight and go find some loot!

Scavenge for Loot

Start on Halvøy empty-handed and become more powerful as you scavenge and defeat enemies. Soldiers in Firestorm have a modified inventory that can carry a combination of weapons, ammo, and gadgets. All resource collecting happens on the battlefield itself. Space is limited, so manage your inventory wisely and share loot amongst your squad.

  • Scattered loot — Weapons and ammo can be found grounded all over the Halvøy terrain.
  • Defeated enemies — You can loot the inventory of a fallen foe for whatever goods they may have.

Firestorm has five distinct types of Objectives designed to reward those who play together. However, some of these high-value rewards come at the highest risk and require a coordinated team effort to secure.

  • Strongboxes – These contain a variety of supplies including weapons, gadgets, and healing items (see below). They are scattered throughout Halvøy and more common near landmarks.
  • Safes – Secure safes are located inside Halvøy ’s landmarks and contain high-value loot. Unlocking the loot inside takes about 20 seconds, so try and have a squad mate watch your back.
  • Supply Drops – Random supply drops will occur throughout a Firestorm match, delivered from a plane above and marked by a green flare once hitting the ground. These contain rare and powerful loot, so rest assured you won’t be the only ones after them.
  • Re-supply Points – As the Firestorm closes in, supply points at various points of the map may become active and can be located by the rising barrage balloons. If you or your team can hold one of these points, you will be rewarded with rare and epic weapons as well as Reinforcements.
  • Vehicle Lockup – Abandoned combat vehicles and other valuable supplies can be found locked behind bunkers in strategic locations. These sites can be accessed by having two players interact with a mechanism on either side of the doors. Warning! Alarms will sound while you are opening a bunker, alerting everyone in the vicinity.

The Loot You’ll Find: Weapons and Gadgets

A subset of Battlefield V weapons are available in Firestorm. They are categorized by weapon type and require their corresponding ammo: rifle, shotgun, MMG, sniper, and SMG. Weapons are also found in three different rarity levels — Common, Rare, and Epic — with a degree of advantages. Soldiers get two primary weapon slots as well as one sidearm.

Battlefield V’s gadgets like the Bouncing Betty and Sticky Grenade make their way to Firestorm, but there are also a few additions unique to the battle royale experience. Soldiers start with four gadget slots in their inventory, one for healing items, one for grenades, and the last two for whatever they find in their inventory.

Backpacks can add up to six inventory slots to hold extra gear. All soldiers are also equipped with an upgradeable Armor Vest that can be refilled with up to three Armor Plates, depending on the tier you find in the wild. These protect against some weapon and explosive damage.

Combat, Armored, and Transport Vehicles

You don’t always have to outrun the firestorm on foot or rely on bullets to wipe out your foes. Pile into one of the 17 types of vehicles found on Halvøy , including tanks, helicopters, sports cars, and the coveted tractor. There are five Firestorm-specific vehicles and the existing Battlefield V vehicles have been slightly tweaked for the battle royale experience.

In Firestorm, all vehicles require fuel and start with only a limited supply. This also goes with the ammo available for the towable weapons. Luckily, these can be replenished with a Jerry Can for vehicles and heavy vehicle ammo for towables.

Reinforcements for Any Soldier

If the flames or soldiers don’t get you, then the Reinforcements just might.

A flare gun can be found and used by any soldier to call-in powerful Reinforcements. These include a calculated artillery strike or precision V-1 rocket. Reinforcements can also back up your team in the form of a supply drop loaded with powerful loot, like a fully upgraded Bren Gun, as well as special vehicles.

Firestorm Weapons:

Inventory Basics

Every soldier drops into Battlefield V’s Firestorm empty-handed, with tons of loot to scavenge once they land, from the environment or fallen foes. But you won’t be able to carry it all at once. Learn to manage your inventory to equip the best loadout and share with buddies when playing in a squad.

Players get two primary weapon slots as well as one sidearm slot and can hold up to four different ammo types at once.

Players also start with four gadgets slots: one dedicated to healing items, one for grenades, and the last two for whatever they can find. The inventory is expandable by picking up a backpack, which can add up to six extra slots (more on backpacks in our gadgets breakdown below).

Firestorm Primary Weapons

There are 16 primary weapons in Firestorm at launch, imported from Battlefield V’s World War 2 arsenal, and are divided into three tiers — Common, Rare, and Epic.

The tiers are based on the number of attachments and upgrades (specializations) the weapons are found with. Look at the Kar98k sniper rifle, for example: The Common is the base version with no specialization upgrades or attachments, while the Rare version is found with two specializations and a close-range sight, and the Epic counterpart comes with two specializations and a mid-range scope.

Let’s cover all the Firestorm primary weapons, organized by their matching ammunition type: rifle, sniper, shotgun, machine gun, and submachine gun.

Submachine Guns

Flexible and clutch for any soldier in a pinch, the four Firestorm submachine guns combine enough close range accuracy and rapid fire to keep multiple enemies at bay.

  • MP40 – General purpose and easy to control, the Rare comes with quick ADS and reduced recoil upgrades, as well as a reflex sight. On the Epic, you’ll find improved ADS while stationary and moving, along with a close-range lens sight.
  • Suomi KP/-31 – Very hard to control and fast firing, finding a Rare means improved hipfire, quick deploy, and a reflex sight. An Epic Suomi gets a rate of fire boost, reduced recoil, and a reflex sight.
  • STEN – A user-friendly cousin of the MP40, nab a Rare for improved hipfire, quicker reload speed, and a reflex sight. The Epic also improves hipfire, reduces recoil and is equipped with a reflex sight.
  • M1928A1 – Commonly known as the “Tommy Gun,” a Rare packs reduced recoil, quick ADS, and a reflex sight. The Epic gets an extended mag, reduced recoil, and a lens sight.

Rifles

This is the go-to weapon for the infantry. Rifles are accurate, can cover long distances, and look dramatic in photos.

  • Gewehr 43 – A run-and-gun favorite, pick up a Rare for quick and improved ADS, along with an aperture sight. Finding an Epic nets you “faster” bullets, reduced recoil, and a ZF4 mid-range scope.
  • M1A1 Carbine – Low damage but can fire quickly, the Rare version has quick ADS and deploy speed, along with a reflex sight. An Epic comes with an extended mag, improved hipfire, and a reflex sight.
  • StG 44 – An accuracy and stopping power combo, a Rare reduces recoil, quickens ADS, and brings a reflex sight. The Epic has improved ADS speed, reduced recoil, and the ZF4 mid-range scope.
  • Gustloff Prototype – An assault rifle with close range, the Rare grants reduced recoil, quick reload, and a reflex sight. Nab the Epic for improved ADS, reduced recoil, and reflex sight.

Sniper Rifles

Tough but rewarding to master. Cover the long distances of the Firestorm map, hone in on headshots, and scare approaching foes with sniper rifles.

  • ZH-29 – A highly-precise semi-automatic sniper, the Rare comes with a bipod, quick ADS, and a close-range sight. Find an Epic, and you get “faster” bullets, improved ADS, and a midrange scope.
  • Kar98k – The familiar but trusty bolt-action rifle, a Rare gets a quicker deploy speed, improved ADS, and a close-range sight. An Epic rewards with a bipod, quick cycle, and a mid-range scope.
  • Lee-Enfield No. 4 Mk l – Fast to fire and good for mid-range, a Rare adds the quick reload and quick deploy upgrades. Collect an Epic to add a bayonet and quick cycle.

Machine Guns

These are the ideal weapons to hold down and capture Objectives with, or to take out a whole squad at once. Heavy damage and rapid, sustained fire are the hallmarks of machine guns.

  • Bren Gun – Hard to miss because of its top-loaded mag, find a Rare to get reduced recoil, quick reload, and the AA close-range sight. An Epic Bren Gun gets “faster” bullets, improved bipod, and the M84 mid-range scope.
  • FG-42 – Fast-firing automatic rifle with a small magazine, a Rare grants quick and improved ADS, along with the AA close-range sight. Find an Epic for reduced recoil, faster ADS when moving, and the ZFG42 mid-range scope.
  • MG 42 – Reliable, easy to use, and boasting an extreme rate of fire, stumble upon a Rare for improved flash hider, “faster” bullets, and the AA close-range sight. Secure an Epic and get improved cooling, a rate-of-fire boost, and the AA close-range sight.

Shotguns

Sometimes you have to handle your business up close and personal. Shotguns pack a wallop at close range and the two below are no exception.

  • 12g Automatic – A veteran of more world wars than you, a Rare 12g Automatic has an extended magazine and quick reload. Pick up an Epic for improved bullet penetration and heavy load.
  • M97 – A pump-action favorite that features high damage and decent range. A Rare M97 comes with quick ADS and slug rounds. Collect an Epic for improved trigger, increased headshot damage, and the Lattey close-range sight.

Stay in the Fight with Five Sidearms

You can’t always get the primary weapon you want, but sometimes you’ll get the sidearm you need. The sidearm is also useful for soldiers to fight back when knocked into the downed state. These require matching pistol ammo to operate.

  • P38 Pistol
  • P08 Pistol
  • M1911
  • FP-45 Liberator
  • Mk Vl Revolver

10 Firestorm Melee Weapons

Stick it to your enemies by putting it bluntly, “This is the largest Battlefield map ever and you let me get this close?” Find these 10 melee weapons in the wild:

  • British Army Jack Knife
  • Club
  • Cricket Bat
  • Hatchet
  • Kukri
  • Machete
  • Pickaxe
  • Scout Knife
  • Shovel
  • Solveig Knife

Firestorm-only Gadgets

The destructive ring of fire is an unconventional emergency to say the least, and soldiers need unconventional ways to help them survive in the 64-player fight. These are the gadgets specific to Firestorm.

  • Backpack – Equip a small, medium, or large backpack to increase your stored inventory slots by two, four, and six, respectively.
  • Healing syrettes – These gadgets let you replenish the health of your squad mates or yourself. They cannot be self-applied when in the downed state.
  • Armor vests – Every soldier starts with an empty armor vest that, when loaded with Armor Plates, protects from gunfire or explosive damage. There are three levels of armor vests based on the amount of plates that can be loaded: Common fits one plate, Rare fits two, and Epic fits three.
  • Ammo – You’ll need to find the correct ammo type to match the primary and secondary weapon you are hoping to fire: rifle, sniper, shotgun, machine gun, submachine gun, and pistol (sidearm).
  • Light and heavy vehicle ammo – This ammo type is used to resupply the weapons on vehicles and towables.

Firestorm Gadgets

There’s a gadget for every purpose. Scoop up one of these familiar Battlefield V gadgets in Firestorm and use them for nearly any battle royale scenario.

Grenades and Throwables

  • No. 36 Frag Grenade
  • M18 Smoke Grenade
  • No. 76 Incendiary Grenade
  • No. 74 Sticky Grenade
  • Geballte Ladung
  • No. 69 Impact Grenade

Launchers

  • Panzerfaust 100
  • SMLE Smoke Grenade Launcher
  • Sturmpistole

Deployables

  • Sticky Dynamite
  • Tellermine
  • S 35 Bouncing Betty

Firestorm Vehicles:

Vehicle Fuel and Ammo System

Because death is permanent in Firestorm, vehicles are balanced by making fuel, and in some cases ammunition, as an additional resource needed to successfully operate them. This way, no one player can dominate the entirety of Halvøy with a roaming tank, a squad who manages their inventory together is rewarded, and Firestorm won’t become just a world of tanks.

There’s enough fuel for each vehicle to get started, but when the fuel runs out, the vehicle can no longer move. Find Jerry Cans on Halvøy and use them on a to prolong the joy ride. Similarly, vehicles and towables come with limited ammunition and a steady supply of light or heavy vehicle ammo keeps their barrels hot.

Combat Vehicles

Fierce, tough, and deadly, these are the last things you want to see when you’re escaping the ring of fire, and the first machines you want in your corner. Each of these can also add a towable weapon (listed later).

  • Churchill Mk VII – Only found in Vehicle Lockup Objectives, the British military used this tank’s weapons and armor to send the Axis scurrying. It also spits hot fire from the flamethrower built on the chassis. Fill the driver and three gunner seats to take advantage of this behemoth’s full arsenal.
  • Panzer 38(t) – A light tank that no one would call “light” to its face, this riveted armor hulk holds a crew of three: a driver and two gunners. It can only be found in Vehicle Lockups.
  • Panzer IV – A tank ubiquitous on the German WW2 frontlines and a soon-to-be Firestorm favorite, pack a full squad to do the most damage. There’s enough room for a driver and three gunners. You’ll find it in Vehicle Lockups and as a Reinforcement.
  • Staghound T17E1 – Compact and versatile, this vehicle is a great way to flush enemies out of buildings without having to go in. Filling the driver and three gunner seats brings the most impact. It can be found in Vehicle Lockups and as a Reinforcement.
  • Tiger I – A nearly indestructible colossus of a tank. Do some serious damage by packing the driver and three gunner seats. This beast will only be found in Vehicle Lockup Objectives.
  • Valentine Mk VIII – Strong, reliable, and powerful. This tank fits a driver and turret gunner for additional heat. It also is only found in Vehicle Lockup Objectives.

Armored Transports

Hunt down these armored transports, load them up with a full squad, and haunt Firestorm like a strike team. All but the Universal Carrier are found in the wild or as a Reinforcement and can hitch a towable weapon.

  • Kubelwagen – A quick armored car with a mounted turret, which fits up to three, a driver, passenger, and rear machine gunner.
  • M3 Halftrack – The Kubelwagen’s older sibling, it packs in four: a driver and three gunners.
  • Sd. Kfz 251 Halftrack – The Kubelwagen’s other older sibling, but slimmer than the Halftrack. It can also bring four to a fight: a driver and three gunners.
  • Universal Carrier – A light armored track vehicle that’s cramped but can hold its own with a good machine gunner. This transport carries three soldiers and is only found scattered on Halvøy.

Firestorm-only Transports

War is always about making do with what you have, and a giant hunk of metal going at high speeds is a damn good option. Truth is, every vehicle is a “combat” vehicle if you’re brave enough. Most of these can pile in a full squad, as well.

  • Prototype Helicopter – Intelligence reports detailed sightings of a single-seat rotorcraft with room for three additional passengers. Soldiers have also been seen firing personal weapons from the vehicle.
  • Kettenkrad – One day, a motorcycle married a halftrack and gave birth to the Kettenkrad. It’s a deceptively sturdy machine with room for a driver and passenger, and can be found in the wild and as a Reinforcement.
  • Pickup Truck – These vehicles can pack a whole squad; they’re found throughout Halvøy and can be driven with no respect for traffic laws.
  • Schwimmwagen – Pile in a full squad, put a buddy on the gunner, and watch them squirm as you drive into the water with this amphibious vehicle. Commonly found near water, they are also available as a Reinforcement.
  • Sports Car – Sure it only fits two soldiers, but you’ll be two really fast soldiers. These are parked at random in Halvøy and available as a Reinforcement.
  • Staff Car – If you weren’t being chased by a fiery death, we’d advise you to garage this vehicle and sell it at auction one day. For now, put a full squad in it and drive it away or into enemies. Parked in the wild, it’s available as a Reinforcement.
  • Tractor – These modest vehicles are used for all types of agricultural work on Halvøy. There’s no reason why anyone in their right mind should use it for anything else.

Towable and/or Stationary Weapons

Tow an anti-tank gun or AA Gun to wallop foes or hold down a key Objective. Both below are found randomly in the wild and are designed for one soldier to operate.

  • FlaK 38
  • PaK 40

Firestorm Objectives and Reinforcements:

Firestorm Objectives

Objectives in Firestorm are strategic objects and areas of interest that can reward varying degrees of loot. Some are easily found and quickly looted, while others, such as Re-supply Points and Vehicle Lockups, require teamwork and cunning to secure. The latter operate like the capture points in Battlefield V‘s main multiplayer, where soldiers will scrap with other teams for control of an Objective. Fend off fend off other would-be capturers to gain the spoils within, like a tank or fully decked-out weapons.

afes before you do.

Like Strongboxes, these appear at random on fixed areas. They will not appear on the mini-map or HUD.

Supply Drops

Over the course of a Firestorm match, players can depend on random Supply Drops from the great plane in the sky to secure gear that’s eluded them or to replenish their inventory after a prolonged firefight.

Green is the color of the flare that signals players to the location of a Supply Drop, popped shortly after it hits the ground. Supply Drops contain rare and powerful loot – you will not be alone when going after them.

Re-supply Points

As you run like hell from the Firestorm, Re-supply Point Objectives will activate within the playable boundary. Think of these as the Flags in Battlefield V’s Conquest mode. Capture these, as a squad or solo, for an opportunity at the Epic tier loot secured within. You’ll need to weigh the odds of a successful capture given your position, loadout, and the likely swarm of soldiers headed your way.

Supply Points are contested areas marked by the hovering olive drab kite balloons that rise once they become capturable. All players will be notified on the map once they are active, and their direction will be pinged on the in-game compass. Soldiers will be able to see the capture status of the point in the UI.

  • There are more than 20 possible Re-supply Points that become active at random.
  • You must hold one of these points against contesting foes to unlock the randomized Rare and Epic loot stored in the nearby supply crates.
  • Areas can be captured more quickly when there are more soldiers of the same squad on a point.
  • Any soldier can contest the point.
  • Supply Points can still be capped within the Firestorm, but players will take damage.
  • They can be captured solo.
  • Available Supply points reset once the shrinking play space reaches the next safe boundary.

Vehicle Lockup

Half doomsday bunker, half military motor pool, Vehicle Lockups are strategically placed structures that when opened unleash Firestorm’s combat juggernauts upon Halvoy. These bunkers house the best stuff – such as the Churchill or Panzer IV tank, Epic tier weapons and gadgets – and are the most sought-after Objectives.

Mostly found embedded within landmarks, a Vehicle Lockup is only accessible through teamwork or fast-acting solo play. In squads, these sites can be opened by having two players interact with a mechanism on either side of the structure’s doors. A solo player can open a Lockup, but they’ll have to turn one lever at a time.

Once the dials start moving, an alarm will sound alerting everyone in the vicinity that a Lockup is opening. Players can stop opening the bunker and quiet the alarm at any time if they get spooked and want to check the area.

Open the doors, discover your prize, and prepare for the fight of your life – otherwise it’s good bye blue sky.

The Reinforcements Found in Objectives

Battlefield V’s Reinforcements, back up armaments or supplies that can strengthen a player’s position, have made their way to Firestorm, now packed into a collection of specific flare guns secured across Halvøy.

Below are the different types of Reinforcements you can call in based on the random flare gun collected by securing the above Objectives, with a much higher chance of finding them from Re-supply points. They are almost never found in the open and do not require Requisition points to use, although some coordination is encouraged.

  • Supply drop – Need gear in an instant and on your terms? Fire this flare gun type to signal a supply drop full of goods that you or your squad can scavenge.
  • Vehicle drop – Combat and transport vehicles will parachute down where you fire this flare gun and help your team escape the ring of fire or quickly reach other areas of Halvøy.
  • Artillery Strike – This Reinforcement deals with hordes of enemies and levels buildings by bombarding a large area with explosives.
  • V-1 Rocket – Maybe you prefer precision. Call in this tactical flying bomb to wipe out or knock down anyone in its direct, sweeping explosion.

Whew! That’s a lot to take in, no? Make sure you also check out the Battlefield 5 2019 roadmap to see what’s coming this year!

Report: Sony No Longer Supplying Digital Codes for Games to Retailers

Do you go to GameStop or other physical shops to buy games digitally? If so, that might be ending really soon. Over on Twitter, trusted video game insider Wario64 has obtained a memo proclaiming that Sony will no longer provide full game digital download codes to retailers starting April 1, 2019!

Over on Reddit, a screenshot of the email purportedly sent to GameStop is also making the rounds, which you can read below. We’ve also screencaptured it in case it gets pulled.

sony digital game codes

Given it’s set to take effect on April 1, 2019, there’s a chance that this is an April Fool’s joke, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it wasn’t. We’ve contacted Sony and will update the story if we get a response.

Is this a big deal for you or do you buy your digital games on PSN anyway?
