Call of Duty: WWII Payroll Increased, Hotfix Rolled Out

While Sledgehammer Games just rolled out a big game update for Call of Duty: WWII earlier this week, the studio isn’t done just yet! As part of a new hotfix (server-side) roll out today that aims to fix a UI issue when accessing the pistol grips menu, the studio has also doubled the Armory Credits players earn!

This means that every four hours, players will get 200 Armory Credits instead of the usual 100! It’s a small thing, but it’s appreciated nonetheless. Here’s the full hotfix notes in case you’re wondering.

Hot Fix Update 3/16 – Pistol Grips menu and Payroll
byu/SHG_Hammer inWWII

Hopefully, Sledgehammer Games continues this upward trend of listening to its community.

What else should Sledgehammer Games tweak or fix in COD: WWII? Let us know in the comments below.

Monster Hunter World Lance End-Game Build – Tank Through Everything

Even after weeks of being published, our Monster Hunter World bow end-game guide is still going strong with reader engagement. Well, thanks to that, I’m back with another weapon and build end-game setup, and this time it’s for the lance! Check out our Monster Hunter World lance end-game build with tips and tactics now!

Note: this is a build I tested extensively which I’ve used to take down tempered Elder Dragons. This is not a definite “best” build since that depends on your play style. However, this will get you places, and will let you solo tempered Elder Dragons with relative ease.

Why the lance and how do I use it?

Let’s get this out of the way first: you don’t see a lot of lance users, right? Well, there’s a very good reason for that, and it’s because the lance (and in itself the loadouts) isn’t a flashy, super damage-dealing machine. Sure you can deal a ton of damage up close, but there’s no berserker combos like the dual blades or you won’t be the one counted on to do the most damage. However, what the lance lacks in flash, it more than makes up for in defense, security and being reliable — and boy, is the lance reliable!

Triple Poke Combo -The main attacks you’ll be doing with the lance are the “triple poke” combo, mixed in with the guard stab, and the running charge. For the most part, triangle, triangle, triangle or circle, circle, circle will be your best friends (you can mix any of the two in any order but it’ll be capped at three hits). Once you’re done with the three hits, either sidestep (by pressing X) to any side, or hold R2 + circle and then cancel the guard by pressing circle again, to be able to repeat the triple poke combo. This triple poke is your bread and butter move, so learn it, live it, and love it, lance user!

Lance Charge – Another move you need to learn is the lance charge, which will have your character run towards a specific direction, hitting anything in your path (yes, even allies). This consumes stamina (and dulls your weapon fast), so use it wisely. You can press X while running to jump which will sometimes let you mount a monster. Pressing square at the end will have you stab the enemy with Mind’s Eye activated (meaning your hits won’t bounce off), or press circle for a triple-hit stab. You can also use this move to chase down monsters, and did I mention how satisfying it is to see the damage numbers pile up when you skewer through large enemies?

Guard Advance – Holding R2 and pressing triangle and pushing the analog stick forward will do a guard mini dash. Pressing triangle again will make your character bash his shield, and pressing circle will translate to a stab. This is a great way to advance at monsters without sacrificing your defense,

Powerguard – Want to block anything — and I mean anything in the game? Then do the powerguard move. Just hit R2, circle and then X to drop your shield down, which will grant you 360-degrees of protection from any damage (yes, even tempered Elder Dragon ultimate attacks). Be careful though, since it can only protect you as long as you have enough stamina. However, if you follow the armor build below, you won’t even need to do this move.

Tips: the lance’s triple poke combo and your stabs are very accurate! You’ll be able to break horns, tails or whatever just by repeatedly attacking one specific area. The attacks might not look like much, but believe me, you’ll be severing tails, horns and more in no time.

You don’t have a “go-to” move when a monster’s down or incapacitated, which means you’ll either rely on your triple poke combo (rinse and repeat while they’re down), or lance charge at them which is less efficient. This might sound like a bummer, but the triple poke does enough damage to make it worth it.

There are more moves and subtleties to the lance’s moveset, but for the most part, the moves above will be what you’ll rely on the most.

Your main goal with this build is to tank everything, and then triple poke enemies into oblivion. Simple but it works.

End-game lance armor build:

  • Headgear: Dragonking Eye Patch – Weakness Exploit Level 2
  • Chest piece: Uragaan Mail a – Partbreaker 2
  • Bracers: Teostra b – Weakness Exploit Level 1
  • Coil: Uragaan b – Partbreaker 1
  • Legs/Grieves: Uragaan a– Guard 2
  • Attack Charm III – Increases attack power. Also improves affinity at higher levels

Note: Important here is the Urugaan Protection set bonus that lets you block unguardable attacks. This means that monster ultimate attacks (even from tempered Elder Dragons) are blockable!

End-game weapon:

Garon Dhara II

Note: Feel free to create elemental lances if you wish to counter each specific monster weak to it. The Bazelgeuse lance is also a top choice given its blast element. For the most part, the Garon Dhara II lance can be used against any enemy type given it’s super high affinity rating, and non-elemental damage.

End-game Decorations needed:

  • Attack Jewel 1 – Increases attack power. Also improves Affinity at higher levels
  • Elementless Jewel 2 – Powers up non-elemental weapons you have equipped
  • Expert Jewel 1 – Increases Affinity
  • Critical Jewel 2 – Increases the damage of critical hits

As you can plainly see, the Decorations used are all focused on damage, and critical hits. Nothing fancy, but just that. If you have more than one Attack Jewel, feel free to use it.

Once properly decked out, your character should have the following skills:

How this armor and weapon combo works and tips:

Every Decoration and armor piece all help in increasing your attack and critical damage. Couple this with the “Partbreaker” skill (all maxed out), and you’ll be severing tails, breaking horns and more in no time.

This build is focused on just guarding (holding R2) everything that comes your way. Nergigante about to dive bomb you? Just hold R2! You don’t even need to do a powerguard to survive it! Just hold R2 (make sure you have enough stamina), and voila! Super easy! You can guard against Vaal Hazak’s poison laser, Teostra’s supernova and everything else. Urugaan Protection set bonus for the cheese?! Yep, and it’s delicious!

For me personally, I ended up with 48 percent affinity, which is fine enough when dealing damage (depending on where you hit, each poke usually comes out at 40-60 damage per hit, and sometimes even goes as high as 70-80+ per). Use the Affinity Booster to help you increase your damage output.

Same as with any end-game build, once you get the necessary armor pieces, make sure to upgrade them to max ASAP. And when you finally unlock augmenting, bump each armor’s defense up to max again.

Weapon augments for the Garon Dhara II should focus on attack and/or affinity. That said, some lance users swear by the health regen augments, so it’s a matter of personal preference.

With this build, I was able to tank through all the tempered Elder Dragons solo. I even did the Sapphire Star’s Guidance optional quest (the one where you had to defeat tempered Nergigante, Teostra and Kushala all in one run) solo.

If you need or want something reliable when making runs at tempered Elder Dragons or if a certain enemy is smacking you and you’re friggin’ annoyed by it, then use this build! Guard against everything, and just poke the crap out of them until they die. It’s not super exciting to watch but it’s definitely satisfying when you’re the only one who doesn’t panic when monsters unleash their ultimate attacks.

Fortnite Mobile Crashing: Why Does Fortnite Mobile Keep Crashing?

Reports of Fortnite mobile crashing issues are popping up, with many players unable to complete a round of the game. Many are wondering: “Why does Fortnite mobile keep crashing?” Here’s what we know.

Fortnite Mobile Crashing: Why Does Fortnite Mobile Keep Crashing?

Fortnite mobile crashing issues are being widely reported, but it shouldn’t really be a surprise that the game — which has just now launched on iPhones — is having issues with stability. Fortnite plops 100 players onto a server for an intense round of battle royale action. The fact that it’s happening on a phone is pure insanity to me, and I’m not surprised that hiccups are being had.

Like with any online multiplayer game in the last five or so years, launch day/week blues should be expected. My advice is to, even though you’re likely super hyped to play with your friends, wait a little while for things to calm down.

Even with iOS invites being released in waves, which helps Epic Games by slowly increasing the player count and demand for resources, there are still going to be issues.

Fortnite Mobile Crashing

The @FortniteGame Twitter account has proven to be pretty responsive in the past, so if you’re truly having a meltdown with these crashing issues, we’d recommend hitting them up.

In other Fortnite news, it has become the most watched and most streamed game on Twitch, the Flippin’ Sexy emote is driving players wild, and a future update will bridge the Battle Royale and Save the World controls.

Far Cry 5 Microtransactions Won’t Be Cosmetic Only, Will Also “Save Time”

We already know that Far Cry 5 microtransactions won’t be tied to loot boxes. However, while Ubisoft has avoided that controversial mechanic, Far Cry 5 won’t be going for a safer “cosmetic-only” option. Real-world money can you get you boosters in the game, which will “save time” and enable players to unlock things at a faster rate.

Ubisoft is being a little vague on what exactly the “time-saving” microtransactions will allow. In a comment to PCGamesN, Ubisoft said that paid-for items aren’t necessary for progression, similar to how MTs were implemented into the critically-acclaimed Assassin’s Creed Origins.

If no one complained about the microtransactions featured in Origins, I guess we don’t have to worry about Far Cry 5, right…? Well, I’d personally still wait for launch day, to see what exactly can be bought, and how that devalues actual hard-earned in-game progress.

In other Far Cry 5 news, the game’s season pass has been detailed, the PC hardware required to run the game has been revealed, and the most dangerous animal in Far Cry 5 isn’t what you’d expect.

PUBG Flare Gun Is Super Powerful and Will Probably Be Nerfed

PUBG flare gun has been added to the game, but it is currently only available to use when playing in custom matches. Players who find a flare gun will be able to call in special supply drops. The special supply drops are superior than normal drops, as they contain more loot, and often two weapons or pieces of high-level armor.

The PUBG flare gun allows players to choose a location by firing the flare into the air. After a short moment, a drop will fall in the chosen area.

What do you make of the new PUBG flare gun? Is it a welcome addition to the game? Or does it need tweaking to be balanced? Let us know in the comments.

In other PUBG news, the latest patch notes for PC Update 7 are now available to read, as are the latest changes to the Xbox version. Looking specifically at the Xbox One version, here’s what the developer has planned for the game’s immediate future.

Analysts Think Fortnite’s Success Will Pose “Tactical Risk to Publishers, Will Impact Other AAA Games

It’s no secret that in the past few months, Epic Games’ Fortnite has gained momentum and is most likely, the most popular game out there right now. Heck, it’s gotten so big that even celebs are playing it live!

While the success of Fortnite is definitely good news for Epic Games, the same can’t be said for other video game companies. KeyBanc Capital Markets analyst Evan Wingren commented on the game’s massive success, and mentioned how it could negatively impact other video game publishers, and even some of the upcoming AAA games.

We believe the strong growth of Fortnite creates tactical risk to the video game publishers and could limit potential upside to consensus numbers. The game is gaining momentum in Western markets, which is likely to impact engagement for all AAA games to some degree. We believe Fortnite is growing the overall gaming TAM [total addressable market], but some cannibalization is likely.

Wingren surmises that the monetization of ot multiplayer games from other video game publishers will suffer by about 10 percent due to the competition Fortnite brings.

Given that big-time publishers like Activision are “aware” of Fortnite’s success, I wouldn’t be shocked if they already have products or programs cooking to counter Epic’s mammoth free-to-play game. Then again, with Fortnite now hitting mobile platform and offering cross-play, I don’t think other publishers can do anything about it even if they wanted to.

Do you agree with the report? Or will other games benefit from Fortnite’s ever-growing mainstream media presence?

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered Listing Spotted Online

Given how popular Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Modern Warfare 2 are, it’s just a matter of time before the games get re-released. We’ve already seen it happen in 2016 with Modern Warfare Remastered being (back then) part of the pre-order offer for Infinite Warfare before being available as a standalone game.

Could Modern Warfare 2 Remastered be the next one to get the same treatment? Amazon has a listing up for “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered” and is listed for release this April 30 fpr the PS4 and Xbox One! If true, then the release date is obviously a placeholder. It’s currently listed by Amazon Italy with a sale price of approximately $25.

Here’s a screengrab of the listing in case it gets pulled:

It bears mentioning that with these things, there’s no guarantee that it’s the real deal. Amazon might have just put the listing up in case the game gets announced. Either that or the retailer jumped the gun, no? I don’t doubt that we’ll see a MW2 Remastered game at some point, but most likely as bundled title and not as a standalone game — at least not right away.

Developed by Infinity Ward, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was released back in 2009 for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC, and is still widely considered by many franchise fans as the best game in the series (this person included).

In any case, we’ve contacted Activision and will update the story if and when we get a response.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 Progression Revamp Announced, Microtransactions to Be for Cosmetics Only

Today is a fine day if you’re a Star Wars Battlefront 2 fan, as DICE has announced that a revamped Battlefront 2 progression system is coming next week on March 21, and it’ll completely re-jig the in-game progression system for the better.

Once the game update hits, in-game progression for Battlefront 2 will now be “linear.” This means that Star Cards or any items impacting gameplay will and can only be earned through gameplay. Players will earn XP for classes, hero characters, ships and more in multiplayer, and once enough XP is earned to gain a level for a unit, players will get one Skill Point that can be used to unlock or upgrade the eligible Star Card you want to equip. Much simpler, right?

What does this mean for the players who’ve already earned Star Cards and whatnot? It’s super simple: you keep everything you’ve already unlocked and earned.

So what will happen to the loot crates that everyone just loves so much (yes, I’m being sarcastic)? Once the update hits, Star Cards will no longer be a part of the loot inside ’em! Credits and cosmetic items will be part of the inventory, but anything that impacts gameplay will be out of the drops.

Remember when EA said microtransactions will be coming back to Star Wars Battlefront 2? Well, it’ll be making a return in April, but only as cosmetic items. You’ll be able to use in-game credits or Crystals (using real-world money) to buy cosmetic items for your characters in the game.

I’m sure players have a lot more questions, and you can check out the Q&A posted by the dev team over here.

According to DICE, there’s a “lot more to come” in terms of new content and improving the game. More game modes are set to come in the next few months.

StarCraft Match-Fixing Plans Foiled in Korea, Organized Crime Mob Might Be Involved

If you’ve played a round of StarCraft in your life, then chances are you know how big the game is in South Korea. Unfortunately, with the game’s popularity reaching fever pitch heights, game fixing the like have made their way into the eSport scene.

Now it seems, another case of StarCraft match-fixing has been unearthed, and this one seems to involve the Korean mob. Here’s the translated excerpts from the TeamLiquid forums:

“이곳에 게이머 4명을 고용해 100억 원대 인터넷 불법 스포츠토토 도박장을 운영해 5억 원의 부당이득을 챙긴 혐의를 받는다.”

They [organized crime] are suspected of hiring 4 gamers and running an illegal online sports betting ring with total wagers around 10 billion KRW and illicit profits around 500 million KRW.

(via kookje)

Official ASL statement on the match-fixing issue (translated) from Afreeca:

Hello.

I am responsible for communications regarding the ASL at AfreecaTV. We have a statement to make to all the pro gamers, BJs, and all fans who love the ASL. The news of match-fixing in StarCraft that broke this morning has caused many fans, players, and organizers to worry. We spoke with the people handling the case at Busan Police and confirmed that investigations related to this case are ongoing.

Once the suspicions are confirmed, the relevant player will be permanently banned from all eSports competitions organized by AfreecaTV and prize money will be confiscated.

AfreecaTV will always do its best to ensure the integrity of the competition.

Thank you.

Official Korean news site kmib has also weighed in on it as well and states the mob was involved in running illegal betting sites, and that a Protoss pro gamer was suspected of losing on purposes. Additionally, it was mentioned that there were plans to fix matches in ASL5.

Korean pro gamer “Sky” is the main culprit since he has now closed his AfreecaTV page, and his phone is no longer reachable. Check out the fixed game in question below.

Some questionable plays can be seen in the clip, with the people commenting even question some of the tactics Sky was doing.

For now, it’s not known who participated in this match-fixing issue, or if there are other pro gamers involved. Once we know more, we’ll keep our readers posted.

Toys “R” Us to Close or Sell All US Stores

It’s an end of an era, ladies and gentlemen! Toys “R” Us, the giant toy chain that sold everything from bikes, stuffed toys, toy guns, action figures, and of course, video games, will be closing shop across the US!

Toys “R” Us will shut down or sell all of its 735 stores in the United States according to court documents. To put things in worse perspective, that means that more 31,000 people will be laid off. Back in September of 2017, Toys “R” Us filed for bankruptcy, which the company hoped will shave off debt, and reinvest that in its stores. At that time, the toy retailer had over $5 billion in debt, and was said to be spending $400 a year just to service it.

Bankruptcy court filings obtained mentioned that Toys “R” Us mentioned how it had a “horrific” holiday season, which was “well below worst case projections.” Obviously, large retailers are affected by digital storefronts, with Amazon one of the main culprits as to the reason why retail is dying.

Whatever happens next, we’ll miss you, Toys “R” Us! You’ll always have a special spot for the ’80s and ’90s kids who grew up watching your commercials, and shopping at your establishments.

Battlefield 1 Console CTE Has Ended, Will Continue for PC Only

In case the writing wasn’t on the wall yet for some, DICE is hard at work on this year’s Battlefield game, which means stuff are winding down when it comes to Battlefield 1. Given we most likely have seen the last expansion for BF1 with Apocalypse, this means that DICE is winding down the testing, bug fixing and whatnot as well.

Over on the Battlefield 1 CTE (Community Test Environment) subreddit, DICE Community Manager Jeff Braddock has posted a message announcing that the Battlefield 1 console CTE will not be coming back, but it will be reactivated for PC.

Battlefield 1 CTE Availability & Next Steps
byu/Braddock512 inbattlefield_live

Given that DICE has said that whatever stuff implemented for the PC version through feedback obtained via the CTE will apply to the console versions, I gather, this shouldn’t be seen as a major loss for console BF1 players. It’s a given that DICE is focusing most of its efforts to the new Battlefield game coming later this year, and this is one of the compromises that fans have to live with.

Is this news surprising to you? Are there still major bugs in BF1 that have yet to be resolved? Do you think it will ever will be now?

Microsoft Xbox E3 2018 to Be “Biggest Showing Ever”

Are you looking forward to Xbox One games? If so, then this June might be the year that Microsoft finally delivers! In a blog post on Larry “Major Nelson” Hyrb site, Major Nelson announced that this year’s Xbox E3 2018 showing will be the “biggest showing ever.”

Contrary to years past, Microsoft will now be taking over the Microsoft Theater, where the Xbox E3 2018 media briefing will take place this June 10 at 1 p.m. PT! There will also be various fan activities for hands-on demos and more.

Here’s the entire blog post in full:

Since Xbox made its first appearance at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in 2000, Xbox has had a major presence at the show, delivering exclusive and powerful ways to let fans in on what we’re up to, and 2018 will be no different.  In fact, it will be our biggest showing ever.

With the evolution of E3, now including fans and extended show hours, we saw an opportunity to create an entirely new show experience reaching E3 attendees and those that are following the show from afar.  With that, in collaboration with the Entertainment Software Association, the organizers of E3, we’re excited to announce that Xbox will be taking over the Microsoft Theater, a perfectly situated space located in the heart of L.A. Live and across the street from the Los Angeles Convention Center (LACC).

The Microsoft Theater will be home to official E3 events like the Xbox E3 2018 Briefing on June 10, 2018 at 1PM PT, various Xbox FanFest activities, hands-on gameplay and demos for all E3 attendees and more.  Not only does the Microsoft Theater allow us to centralize our Xbox presence at E3, but it’s size enables us to include even more fans and partners in the Xbox E3 2018 Briefing than ever before.

In addition to the Microsoft Theater, we’ll also continue to have a meaningful presence at the LACC with a new booth completely dedicated to Mixer, where you can play, stream and interact with games and catch the latest E3 news live throughout the entire week.

These changes – expanding our presence, multiple venues, taking over the Microsoft Theater – give us the opportunity to bring together a variety of Xbox experiences into one primary location and, most importantly, let fans in on what we’re up to in 2018 and beyond in a fresh new way.

So mark your calendars for the Xbox E3 2018 Briefing for June 10, 2018 at 1PM PT to kick off the week of E3 with us.  We’re excited and will have plenty more to share on our E3 2018 plans soon.  Stay tuned to Xbox Wire for an update in April.

Of course, Microsoft can’t not hype their E3 showing, right? Let’s just hope that this little “biggest showing ever” bit is the real deal, and that it means gamers galore.

Are you looking forward to Microsoft’s E3 showing? What are you expecting to see?
