Fortnite Silenced Pistol Update Will Be the First of the Year for the Game, Here’s What’s to Expect

It might already be 2018, but that’s not stopping Epic Games from pumping out game updates to Fortnite. The first Fortnite update is planned to go live on January 2, 2018, at 8 a.m., and will feature the “Sneaky Silencer Limited Time Mode” from January 5 to January 8!

It will feature the Silenced Pistol, and can be found in treasure chests, supply drops or floor loot, and will be in Epic and Legendary rarity variants.

SNEAKY SILENCERS

This Limited Time Mode is available January 5 and ends on January 8.
  • Weapons are limited to Suppressed SMG and Suppressed Pistols only.
  • Traps are disabled.
  • Greatly increased drop rate of the Bush.

According to Epic, there’s no expected downtime or will there be any game update to download for the Sneaky Silencers mode (meaning it’ll be from a server-side update).

In other Fortnite news, Epic acknowledges that there’s an inventory bug in the game right now, and the studio is aiming to fix it. The Boogie Bomb is also being considered for a nerf in an upcoming update.

Steam “Best of 2017” List, Includes Top Selling, Top Played and More

Valve, the company behind digital storefront behemoth Steam, has released its “Best of 2017” list, and it covers a lot of ground. While people usually lists their top games of the year, Valve did that a few hundred steps better by listing the Steam top selling games of 2017, best new releases, most played and more.

Without further ado, check out the big end-of-year Steam recap!

Top Sellers:

We started by looking at the top-sellers again. We ran the numbers to come up with the list of the games that earned the most revenue during 2017, including all forms of Steam revenue; game sales, in-game transactions, and DLC. So, like last year, the resulting list includes a mix of free-to-play games as well as premium games.

Platinum:

  • Ghost Recon Wildlands
  • Warframe
  • Dota 2
  • Divinity Original Sin II
  • H1Z1
  • Grand Theft Auto V
  • Rocket League
  • Rainbow Six Siege
  • PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds
  • ARK: Survival Evolved
  • The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
  • Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

Check out the full list of top sellers from bronze to platinum, right here.

Top New Releases:

We thought that it might also be interesting to look at the top-selling games that released during 2017. This one was a bit trickier to put together in a way that fairly represented games released throughout the year. For example, if we just looked at total revenue earned by games released during the year, the list would strongly favor games released early in the year, as they have had more months to earn sales. To counter that effect, we could look at the average money-per-day earned by games released in 2017, but that ends up biasing strongly in favor of games released late in the year, as initial launch-week sales spikes are typically much stronger than following weeks and months.

Ultimately, we weren’t happy with any single metric as determination of the popular releases throughout the year, so we used the games from all of these lists and split them out by the month they released. The result is a list of games released each month during 2017 that achieved a sizable level of commercial success. Top games released in January are based more on their overall gross revenue while games released later in the year are selected more based on initial week sales and average daily revenue.

Full month by month list of top releases right here.

Note: any of the measures above for new releases will under-count free-to-play games, which tend to grow in revenue over time rather than having an initial sales spike like premium games.).

Best Selling VR Titles:

We have seen over 1,000 new VR titles come out this year, including blockbusters such as Fallout 4 VR, SUPERHOT VR, and Rick and Morty: Virtual Rick-ality, as well as continued popularity of last year’s releases like Arizona Sunshine, RAW DATA, and Job Simulator. As VR continues to grow as a platform unto itself, we wanted to put together a list of this year’s top-selling VR games to highlight the variety of interesting VR experiences that are being bought and played.

Platinum:

  • Space Pirate Trainer
  • Gorn
  • Onward
  • Fallout 4 VR
  • Raw Data
  • Audioshield
  • Tilt Brush by Google
  • Superhot VR
  • Arizone Sunshine
  • Rick and Morty: Virtual Rick-ality
  • Hot Dogs, Horseshoes and Hand Grenades
  • Job Simulator

Check out the best selling VR titles from bronze to platinum here.

Top Early Access Grads:

The number of notable titles launching through the Early Access program continued to expand in 2017 with titles like PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS, Oxygen Not Included, Northgard, Dead Cells, and Blackwake. Meanwhile, we’ve seen a number of hugely popular Early Access games make the transition to full release (hello, PUBG!). So, we decided to make a list of all the top-selling games that graduated from Early Access this year.

Platinum:

  • Portal Knights
  • PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds
  • Torment: Tides of Numeria
  • Battlerite
  • Slime Rancher
  • Ultimate Epic Battle Simulator
  • Day of Infamy
  • The Long Dark
  • Divinity Original Sin II
  • Everspace
  • ARK: Survival Evolved
  • Endless Space 2

Check out the top early access grads from bronze to platinum here.

Top Played Games:

Finally, we wanted to see what people were spending time playing, and how that compared with the games that players were spending money on. So we put together a list of games based on the peak number of simultaneous players. We originally set out to create a top-100 list, but found a slightly longer list (107) that achieved a peak number of simultaneous players over 15,000 and felt it was worth recognizing them all. To fully recognize the games that have built a significant player base, we’ve excluded a few titles that only had short-term spikes in player count due to running giveaways.

In the process of putting this list together, we found that there is a lot of overlap in the lists of top-selling games and top-played games, with 71 titles on both lists.

Over 100,000 Simultaneous Players:

  • H1z1
  • Dota 2
  • Counter-Strike: Global Offensive
  • Rainbow Six Siege
  • Warfame
  • ARK: Survival Evolved
  • Grand Theft Auto V
  • PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds
  • Payday 2

Check out the complete list of most played from 15,000 simultaneous players to 100,000 here.

About the Lists:

Specific revenue for the lists are not disclosed, but the leading sellers are broken into the following four categories to give an idea of how they placed:
– Platinum: The first thru 12th best seller
– Gold: 13th – 24th best seller
– Silver: 25th – 40th top seller
– Bronze: 41st – 100th top seller

According to Valve, the winners of the second annual Steam Awards will be revealed later this week. You can still vote on some of the categories right here.

Surprised by any of the games on the list? For me, I’m surprised Payday 2 is there, and even Ghost Recon Wildlands. Games I expected to rule the roost in almost category didn’t disappoint (PUBG), and yeah, Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto V is a zombie game that will never die, no?

Share your own top lists of 2017 in the comments below, and whether you agree with Steam’s community.

Need for Speed Payback Online Free Roam Coming This Year

If you were hoping for a Need for Speed Payback online free roam functionality to make its way into the game, then you’re in luck as that’s exactly what you’ll be getting later this year!

According to the official Need for Speed Twitter account, Need for Speed Payback online free roam is coming in 2018! Unfortunately, there’s no actual date when this will be rolled out.

For those wondering whether players will need to cough up some cash for this new feature, the Twitter account confirmed it’s going to be free for everyone! The feature is still being worked on, but once Ghost Games has it finalized, expect a release date.

If you’re unfamiliar with online free roaming in Need for Speed, it’s a feature where players can freely roam (hence the term) the game, and match up against real-world players whom they come across.

You can check out the “Speedcross” update for Need for Speed Payback and what’s in it, right here.

PlatinumGames Is Looking Into Creating Its Own IP, Currently Focusing on Two New Games

PlatinumGames has provided details about what it is currently working on. The developer is now focused on two new games, with at least one seeming like a new IP. This information was shared during an interview with GameInformer.

PlatinumGames’ Atsushi Inaba spoke about the developer’s current projects, and the process behind creating something great.

So what has Platinum been focusing on lately?

One of the things Platinum is focused on is we’re looking into creating our own IP, creating our own game. Up until now, obviously we’ve worked on original IPs for a wide variety of publishers. We’ve also worked on other Hollywood IPs for other publishers as well. But we’re becoming more and more interested in the idea of self-publishing and doing our own title.

So how would that look? What would that process look like for you guys?

Over the last year we’ve pretty much opened the company up to “Anybody can pitch a game,” and so over the last year we’ve gotten about 70 design documents from different people. And if you’re going list out the other random ideas, the scratched stuff on paper, that’s a hell of a lot more. So this year has been about us basically diluting which stuff we wanted to focus on and not focus on, and drilling down to the point where we now have two designs that we’re genuinely focused on.

Are those all ideas for bigger games, or do you guys kind of look at what the indie space is doing? Are you thinking about doing a small, indie-style game?

We can’t put together a AAA, $10 million-plus game, because we just don’t have that sort of cash as an independent developer. However, we don’t plan to go the indies route with just a few people on a team making a game, so it’ll be somewhere in the middle, looking at probably about 20 people on the staff making the game, so that’ll still be a healthy [size].

Click here to check out the full interview.

What do you want to see next from PlatinumGames? Let us know.

Epic Games Acknowledges Fortnite Inventory Bug, Working to “Make This Right”

Epic Games has confirmed that a Fortnite inventory bug had been affecting players during “a limited time window on Wednesday.” This bug completely wiped out players’ inventories, devastating those who had invested a lot of time into the game.

Those affected will be gifted “a pile of items, V-Bucks, and more.” In addition to this, Epic Games is “committed to also doing an additive restore of [players’] lost items in the future.”

Some players that made V-Buck purchases never received them. Epic Games is remedying this by gifting “an equal or greater amount of V-Bucks.”

Here’s the full update post, in which the developer explains what went wrong, and the fixes being worked on:

Well, we messed up in three dimensions…

The first one was a problem with our build deploy on 12/27 resulting in some of you being routed to a bad node during the 12-5 pm window. This created a situation where the game couldn’t access your inventory, and it appeared like you didn’t have all your cool things in your world inventories. (Which sadly, included your ability to access your building shapes) Then the game saved your new “lost state” over your old world item inventory, resulting in inventory loss. Since it was limited to those people who touched the bad node, we couldn’t simply rollback the entire game because it would disrupt millions of players and their progress.

What that means is that certain people lost a lot of world items (not schematics and currencies though) and all around are missing a bunch of crafting items and weapons. We’re sorry, like, really sorry. This is one of the worst things a collection game can do to a player.

Second, we found that Storm Shield storage was also affected for some players. We are looking into a solution for this issue now and will update everyone later.

Third, we came across is a select group who purchased V-Bucks but never actually received them. Also super irritating when you want to buy something and the system appears to take your money and you didn’t get your stuff! We compensated players with an equal or greater amount of v-bucks on the morning of December 29.

So.. we’ve had an eventful few days! Right now, the team is figuring out a better way to address individual accounts for the future. We are also putting our heads together to ensure we don’t run into any other faulty nodes during deployment. Making sure this does not happen again is our top priority.

Let’s talk about how we are going to make this right.

The initial first pass solution, without a full inventory restoration, just isn’t going to cut it. Since we don’t know how long it may take to restore the whole inventory, we’re granting a much bigger amount into your storage, based (roughly) on time played. We respect your time, effort and dedication to Fortnite and will be running the granting script overnight. This should complete sometime tomorrow morning (12/30 ET). Thank you for being vocal about this on our social channels! We can’t get your time back, but we will always do right by you.

We are really sorry this happened to you during the holiday season, when all you want to do is sit down and play games. It is our absolute top priority to ensure that this does not happen again and we promise to always make it right to the players if we make a mistake.

If you have any further issues please reach out to our Player Support reps on our website. Thank you for sticking with us!

Were you affected by the Fortnite inventory bug? Is this a good-enough solution? Let us know.

Hidden Destiny 2 Glimmer Cap Prevents Players Earning Too Much Too Quickly

Eliminating enemies in Destiny 2 usually results in a bit of Glimmer as a reward. I say “usually” because there’s a newly-discovered cap that prevents players from earning too much Glimmer in too short a space of time.

Reddit user NoctisNoctua discovered that once “400ish” Glimmer is earned, enemies stop dropping it. The effect worsens as you kill more enemies, as explained in the OP:

I don’t know if this is news to anyone but I did three tests to confirm it in the EDZ where Devrim is, and one on Titan. There are tons of enemies to kill when the fallen and cabal “move against each other” so it was rather easy. Once you gain a certain amount of glimmer (400ish?), the currency stops coming until you refrain from killing anything for a while. If you take a break for a moment, the next glimmer cap is even smaller (mine stopped at 200 after a 20 second rest).

In one particular instance, after I stopped gaining glimmer, I must have killed at least 60 enemies who didn’t drop any glimmer at all. I was at 6000 glimmer, gained about 280 before the glimmer stopped, and then proceeded to kill enemies for several minutes after that. When I finally stopped and checked my inventory, I was at 6280 glimmer.

This may be old news I was unaware of. Either way, it seems like a pointless farming cap that would be near impossible to exploit and has to go. It makes me wonder how much glimmer I’ve lost out on in strikes and raids where the enemies come constantly and in great numbers.

User SnowBear78 claims that this is carried over from the original game:

It was the same in D1. Too many of us farming Exclusion Zone back when Saladin took Glimmer for his weapons and armour.

Regardless, it’s clearly a cause for concern for many players, and it would be nice for Bungie to be a bit more transparent here. It could mean a lot of Glimmer is going to waste.

In other Destiny 2 news, the game’s official forums has been swamped with “Remove Eververse” threads, upcoming Iron Banner and Faction Rally armor is available to preview, and Bungie has detailed future updates including better non-Eververse loot.

This Fan Made Overwatch Map Was Made by One Student, Go Watch the Video

Have you ever wanted to design your own Overwatch map? Yeah? But have you actually done anything about it though? Well, college student Joshua Llorente has actually created one from scratch all by his lonesome! Yep, a fan made Overwatch map was made by just one person, and it’s fantastic.

Going by the username Joshua12g over on Reddit, Joshua states it took him about two months to create the map, and he’s done it just because he’s a fan of the game, so he didn’t do it for extra credit or anything. Check out a flythrough of the map below.

Will we ever see this Cairo map ever make it into Overwatch? If Blizzard and Joshua can come into an agreement and jump over any legal hurdles, then who knows? This is definitely a step in the right direction for the college student, and who knows? He might one day work for Blizzard, and use this map as part of his resume.

In other Overwatch news, don’t forget to login before January 1, 2018 is over since Blizzard is giving away five free loot boxes for the holidays!

Here’s a Compilation of the Battlefield 2018 Leaked Info Known So Far

While it’s still up in the air whether we’ll see Battlefield go the WWII route in 2018, or whether it’ll be a new entry in the Bad Company franchise, there’s already a lot of alleged Battlefield 2018 leaks out right now.

Thanks to Reddit user Jake_Sigh, you can now read a compiled version of the leaks from TheAlmightyDaq! Bear in mind, these are all rumors until verified or debunked by EA, and as such, don’t be annoyed if these things don’t turn out to be true.

According to Jake_Sigh, he wrote everything on his phone, so forgive him if there are typos and such.

Battlefield 2018 (WWII) All leaked info as of now. (24, December, 2017)

Campaign * Will focus on an American squad in WWII * Will have different perspectives of different soldiers that will link together to form the story

Mechanics * Pretty much slightly improved BF1 mechanics * Behemoths will return * Presumably micro destruction similar to BF1

Gunplay * Very similar to BF1, possibly a toned down random bullet deviation adjustment. (Sometimes bullets will go off target) * Prototype weapons will make a return. Like how the Automatico wasn’t used in WWI, but rather made during WWI. Except this time it’s the WWII time era.

Melee * No more bayonet charging, but you can still use a bayonet on a weapon that allows for one to be equipped. * Most likely going to be almost identical to BF1, but there could be minor adjustments made.

Vehicles * Vehicle play will be more similar to BF4, but will keep some aspects from BF1. * No more auto repair * Tankers can control the main aspects of their tanks now without having to share with other players. * Transport vehicles of course will be similar to BF1 and BF4 * Dogfighting and planes will be much more competitive than BF1, but not as much as BF4. * Planes are faster than BF1, but not as fast BF4.

Customization * Soldier customization will make a return * On your soldier you can change patterns and colors, that’s about it. Very similar to BF4. * No planned facial customization. * Weapons will be more customizable than BF1, but less customizable than BF4. * Similar loadout customization to BF4. * I believe that specific weapons will only be able to be used with specific factions until you hit a certain level. (For example; the MP40 is German. You can’t use the MP40 with any other faction until you hit a certain level or meet a certain requirement that is needed.)

Maps * Maps are designed very similar to BF1 in a sense they are very big and open without a definitive boundary to them. * Most likely going to be primarily made for Conquest. * At least 10 base maps. (That’s one more than BF1 and CoD:WWII at launch)

Censorship and Controversy * Swastikas will be in the game. But you will primarily see the Iron Cross instead. (For example, the swastika can be seen on a German soldier, but not on the flags) * Gore will be on par with BF1 * There will be females, and also other people of ethnic groups. Will probably be like BF1 with females as Russian snipers. Also like how black men are German scouts.

DLC and Microtransactions * Will use similar BF1 system of DLC. Basically buy a season pass and get access to future maps with minor bonuses included. * Strictly cosmetic only.

——— Battlefield 2019 (BFBC3) All leaked info as of now (28, December, 2017)

Campaign * Will see the return of the original Bad Company squad * Will have Vietnam flashbacks in between each mission; similar to BO2 with going back to the past and back to near future * Will continue BFBC2’s story (Russian invasion of Alaska) * Campaign will allow for both Vietnam and Cold War maps

Mechanics * Destruction very similar to BFBC2. Will use the BF1 destruction engine and overhaul it to allow emulation of destruction on par with BFBC2. * No behemoths or scripted levolution * Theoretically, levolution will be in the game as players can virtually destroy almost anything they want to. * Bullet drop will be a large focus on gunplay * Prone mechanic will be introduced to BFBC3

Gunplay * As previously stated, bullet drop will be a large focus of gunplay * Gunplay will be much more skill-oriented * Similar to BFBC2 but also having strong similarities to BF4’s gunplay.

Vehicles * No planes or jets * Helicopters will be the only known of air vehicles * Mostly focused on transport vehicles * Tanks will be in the game, just not as a large focus point

Customization * Will have a lot of customization compared to BF1 and BFBC2 * Possibly will be on par with BF4 customization and maybe even offer a little more options * Soldier customization will be a more central focus of the customization system

Maps * More focused for the Rush gamemode * More close quarters oriented; similar to BFBC2 * Will span across both Vietnam and the Cold War settings * Will launch with 10 base maps

Gore * Gore will remain mild * Similar to BF4

Microtransactions and DLC * Battlepacks will be cosmetic * No word on premium yet

There you go. Will any of these prove to be real come 2018? We’ll know for sure in just a few months from now.

What are you expecting from the Battlefield franchise in 2018? What rumors are you expecting or hoping are true? Share your thoughts below.

MP1st Staff: What We’re Most Looking Forward to in Video Games 2018

Well, here we are, people. In just a day (or two depending on where you are), we’ll be capping off 2017, and will be welcoming 2018! This means a slew of new games, gaming controversies, issues, surprises and more.

Before we say good bye to 2017, we here at MP1st have one more feature to fire off today, and that’s a list of our most anticipated games of 2018! Bear in mind, that these aren’t exactly just games but more of gaming moments and stuff we know will be coming out in the next 12 months.

Alex Co (@excaliburps):

1)  Battlefield 2018 – We still don’t know whether this one will be based on WWII, Bad Company 3 or something else. But whatever it might be, a Battlefield game made by DICE is certainly cause for excitement and celebration. And judging from our data, our readers are looking forward to this too.

2) Treyarch’s Call of Duty – While we don’t know what setting 2018’s Call of Duty will be, or if there will be new game mechanics or even a new engine, but the fact that it’s being made by Treyarch is enough for us to get excited. Have you played Black Ops 3? Do you know it’s still being supported by Treyarch years after release? Not only that, but most people considers Treyarch the “A-Team” when it comes to Call of Duty games.

3) The Last of Us Part II – I admit, I’m looking forward more to The Last of Us Part II’s single-player more than whatever multiplayer mode Naughty Dog cooks up, but can you blame me? TLOU is considered one of the best video games of all time, and that’s not an exaggeration. Whatever it is, bring it on, Naughty Dog!

4) God of War PS4 – Yeah, it’s another single-player game but hey, I can’t help it! I love Sony Santa Monica’s God of War games and based on what we’ve seen so far, next year’s entry will be a killer! Expect new gameplay mechanics, a fresh story and more. I cannot wait to see what twists and turns the story has.

5) News and rumors on next-gen consoles (PS5, Xbox Two) – It’s 2018, which means the current consoles we’re gaming on now are becoming long in the tooth. While I don’t expect anything official to come from Sony or Microsoft, I wouldn’t be shocked to see leaks, reports and rumors pop up, either. It’s time. I expect we’ll hear hints and whatever from devs and other sources to seep out soon, with the actual consoles hitting in 2020.

Mack Ashworth (@GamingWithMack)

1) The Last of Us Part II Multiplayer Details – The original TLOU had a fantastic MP component. I’m hoping the sequel will, too, and that we’ll get details on it next year.

2) Treyarch’s Call of Duty – Whether it’s Black Ops 4, Urban Ops, or something else entirely, I’m hyped to see what Treyarch has been up to.

3) Battlefield 2018 – Whatever it is, it’s going to be huge. I’m hoping for Bad Company 3, but I’d be happy with WWII. Just please let it launch smoothly!

4) Far Cry 5 – This is looking like a ton of fun when played in co-op. Can’t wait to hop in and get stupid!

5) PUBG’s Evolution – I, like many gamers, am pretty damn obsessed with PUBG. It’s addicting as hell, even after 100+ hours. I can’t wait to see what comes next.

Joel Santana:

1) Borderlands 3 reveal/announcement My most anticipated game

2) Battlefield 2018 – would love to see the direction DICE takes the game this time after going back to WW1.

3) Dragon Ball FighterZ – The DBZ game fans have waited for

4) Season 5 for Smite: complete overhaul of the map for its main game mode. As well as waiting to see what changes they make to the game.

5) Timesplitters: some sort of announcement for the game would be great. Though I’m pretty sure the franchise is dead which is a shame since I found the games to be very enjoyable.

Denny Kovacks

1) VR Gen 2

2) Battlefield 2018

3) A Way Out

4) Star Citizen updates

5) More games!!!!

That’s our list. What are you most looking forward to when it comes to video games in 2018? Share your lists and thoughts in the comments below.

Have a happy and safe New Year, everyone! MP1st will be bigger, better, and way busier once 2018 rolls in so stay tuned!

Call of Duty $1.50 Wager Dispute Results in Casualty Due to “Swatting” in Kansas

A man in Wichita, Kansas, is dead after police shot and killed him during a response to what was thought to be an on-going hostage situation that turned out to be a hoax. Police are now investigating the incident to determine if a case of “swatting” occurred as a result of a wager dispute between two Call of Duty players.

“Swatting,” for those not familiar with the term, is when a person contacts emergency services to report fake criminal behavior (usually a hostage situation) that results in an aggressive police response involving tactical personnel.

It all started when two Call of Duty players were having a dispute regarding a $1.50 wager they had made for a Call of Duty: WWII match on the custom tournament website UMGgaming.

During the dispute, the two players threatened to SWAT each other, with one player attempting to call the other player’s bluff, going as far as providing a fake address in private messages on Twitter. In response, the player reached out to a man known for swatting to have him carry out the act.

The man then phoned 911 emergency services claiming to have shot his father and to be holding his mother and younger brother hostage in a one-story house with his father’s pistol.

As a result, police surrounded the private home and demanded the shooter to vacate the house with his hands up. A man stepped outside of the home, being ordered by police to continue walking forward when suddenly he was shot. After being transferred to the hospital, the man was pronounced dead.

When news broke about the tragedy, the player who provided the phony address tweeted saying “Someone tried to swat me and got an innocent man killed.”

The man who allegedly called 911 to report the phony situation tweeted that “the kids (sic) house I swatted is on the news,” and followed up two hours later with a tweet laying blame for the death on the officer who killed the Wichita man, stating that “I DIDNT (sic) GET ANYONE KILLED BECAUSE I DIDNT (sic) DISCHARGE A WEAPON AND BEING A SWAT MEMBER ISNT (sic) MY PROFESSION.”

After the tweets, the man was interviewed on the show Drama Alert by host Daniel ‘Keemstar’ Keem where he discussed the incident in detail:

I was minding my own business at the library, someone contacted me and said ‘hey dude this fucking retard just gave me his address and he thinks nothing is going to happen, uh you wanna uh you know uh prove him wrong,’ and i said sure i love swatting kids who think that nothing is going to happen and then uh i followed the kid he wanted me to swat[on twitter] and the kid that he wanted me to swat sent me a dm saying uhm he basically messaged me with an address saying uh well im waiting for you to do something pussy this and that and then uhm you know uh an attempt was made to swat that address.

Keemstar responded by asking if the man did swat the address and if he was the one who reported the fake hostage situation, to which the man replied “Sure, right. Yup.”

The man later reinforced his earlier tweets laying blame on the numerous individuals involved in the incident, even saying that it is debatable on who should take responsibility.

“Do you feel sad about it? Like, If I caused somebody to die like that I wouldn’t be able to sleep. Is there any empathy,” Keemstar asks the man.

The man responded by saying that he did not feel that he was responsible saying “It’s my personal belief that I didn’t cause someone to die… I guess.”

Following the interview, the man was identified by police as 25-year-old Tyler Barriss and arrested at his Los Angeles home. Bariss was involved in a similar incident in 2015 where he contacted emergency services to report that he had placed a bomb at ABC Studios. After police determined the call to be false, Bariss was arrested and charged with false report of a bomb.

The victim, identified by family as Andrew Finch, did not play video games because “he had better things to do,” his mother said. Mr. Finch is survived by his two children, ages two and seven.

Sledgehammer Games to Provide Insight Into Some of the Studio’s “Design Choices” for Call of Duty: WWII

While Sledgehammer Games seems to have made a lot of cash already with Call of Duty: WWII, that doesn’t mean the game isn’t without its flaws. There are bugs still present in the game, and new ones are being discovered as well. In addition to that, there are certain game design choices that are baffling long-time Call of Duty fans (like this guy!) as to why they’re implemented in the game (Domination kills being 50 instead of 100 or even 75 points is one).

Over on Reddit, the verified Sledgehammer Games account posted a message thanking the fans for feedback, and mentioned that they will provide fans with “insight” into some of their design choices.

In case you couldn’t read that, it states:

Thanks for the feedback here and constructive criticism. Definitely respect Epic and what they do! We will continue to provide regular game updates/hotfix updates for the community. But in addition, we will aim to provide you all with more insight into some of our design choices and creative choices and start even more specific threads dedicated to individual top community concerns. Not just the larger updates with notes, but also some more background and explanation.

Let’s hope Sledgehammer pushes through with this promise. I, for one, am very curious as to what’s the reasoning behind some of the most baffling game design choices in the game. Stuff like being shellshocked by teammate grenades, sprint out times, and lots more.

What do you want Sledgehammer Games to disclose when it comes to game design choices? Let us know your thoughts, COD: WWII fans!

Video Game Developers Share Their Favorite Gaming Moments of 2017

With 2017 coming to a close, that means people are reminiscing the most memorable gaming moments they had for the year. Everyone has their own favorite gaming moments of 2017, and it looks like the folks making PlayStation games are the same too.

Over on the PlayStation Blog, a bunch of video game developers share their fave gaming moments of 2017! Note that these are the best moments and not games, so don’t be surprised to see some non-game specific answers.

The moment I defeated Onryoki in Nioh.” Hermen Hulst, Co-founder, Guerrilla Games (Horizon Zero Dawn)

“The release of Nioh in February. I could hardly sleep that week due to being anxious before the release and then excited after it. Team Ninja really put their hearts and souls into developing the game, and I’m glad that so many players were able to enjoy the result.” Fumihiko Yasuda, Director, Team Ninja (Nioh)

“Seeing my friend play PS VR for the first time and tear off the headset when they got to the level swarming with spiders in Until Dawn: Rush of Blood – ever so slightly arachnophobic…” Steve Goss, Director of Design, Supermassive Games (Until Dawn: Rush of Blood, Hidden Agenda)

“Shipping three titles: Wipeout The Omega Collection, That’s You! and Knowledge Is Power. Them aside, I think s****ing my pants on numerous occasions playing Resident Evil 7 in the dark. 7.1 Surround Sound is made for games like this!” John McLaughlin, Senior Producer, XDev Studios

“Realising my childhood dream of being a Rebel pilot. Jumping into an X-wing cockpit for the first time in the most real way in Rogue One: X-Wing VR mission.” Etienne Aubert, Animation Director, Arkane Studios (Dishonored 2)

“Getting all the gems and clearing all the time trials in the original Crash Bandicoot from the N.Sane Trilogy. Good to know I still have the skills to do it…” John Johanas, Director, Tango Gameworks (The Evil Within 2)

“I got my PS VR headset this year, and sitting at home, playing in VR in a relaxed environment was amazing. I think Sony has managed to pull off something truly incredible with releasing a VR headset for a home console.” Henrik Larsson, Producer, Tarsier Studios (Little Nightmares, Statik)

“Probably the launch of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR. I’m a massive fan of the game. Plus, when you have the Alduin statue from Skyrim’s Collector Edition on your desk — well, that’s kind of a dead giveaway. Long story short, I was really looking forward to it and it delivered. For me, the shift in perspective is like playing Skyrim for the first time all over again. Which feels great.” Michał Dobrowolski, Senior Game Designer, CD Projekt Red (The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt, Gwent)

“Aw, easy one! Our studio, Wish, shipped two games for PlayLink this year: That’s You! and Knowledge is Power. Going to E3 to see them both announced, and to demo them for the first time, was totally thrilling. I wish the whole team could have been there – it was fantastic.” Caspar Field, CEO, Wish Studios (That’s You! and Knowledge is Power)

“That Last of Us: Part 2 teaser reveal: brutal and surprising.” James Valls, Senior Producer, Rebellion (Sniper Elite 4)

“This year, the game NieR: Automata – which I directed – was released. The SIE team in Taiwan held a NieR: Automata concert and even included it in a music video. I also received an award at the Japanese PlayStation awards. I’m so grateful for all of the support I’ve received from Sony!

“But out of everything, what’s stuck with me the most is that the video I shot in England where I try to forcibly take off Takahisa Taura’s (PlatinumGames) T-shirt surpassed 440,000 views.” Yoko Taro, Director, Platinum Games (NieR: Automata)

“There were a lot of memorable game scenes, but I would say it was a real-life event for me; the FFXIV Fan Festival in Frankfurt that we held in February. I really cannot forget the cheers of joy at the moment when we played the opening trailer for Stormblood, the latest expansion for FFXIV, during the keynote speech in the event’s opening presentation.” Naoki Yoshida, Director, Square-Enix (Final Fantasy XIV: A Real Reborn)

“Seeing the PS4 console selling so well. This invigorates the games market and ties in to new chances for creators like myself, so I want it to continue selling into next year as well.” Hiroaki Kato, Producer, Square-Enix (Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age)

“It is not one specific article or anything, but I was very happy to see so many Japanese made PlayStation titles getting attention in 2017.” Takashi Katano, Director, Square-Enix (Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age)

“My favourite moment is in Uncharted: The Lost Legacy – mini-spoiler alert – when Nadine pushes Chloe into the water just after you’ve climbed the wall for a good minute. You have to redo all the climbing, but the trade-off is amazing, the characters and their relationship became even more real. I loved that moment – it’s the kind of detail that really makes you believe in the whole thing, even at the cost of player progression. Hats off, Naughty Dog.” Damien Kieken, Game Director, Ubisoft (For Honor)

“Hopping into Poe Damaron’s signature black Incom-Frietek T-70 X-Wing fighter in Star Wars Battlefront II. I’ll make no apologies for saying that Poe is my favourite of the new characters in the latest Star Wars trilogy and getting to fly that ship with BB-8 as my co-pilot was pretty special, even if I flew it straight into a capital ship after spawning. One hell of a pilot indeed.” Brad Davey, Lead Designer, Sumo Digital (Snake Pass)

“Catching the reveal trailer for The Gardens Between at the Paris Games Week – it looks very imaginative!” Gavin Price, Creative Lead, Playtonic (Yooka Laylee)

“Playing Resident Evil 7 with my wife. It says something about the game that it can keep someone entertained the entire time just from watching someone else play. It was an awesome entry into the series, harkening back to the feel of Resident Evil 1 and 4 for me, and it was a lot of fun sharing the experience with my wife.” Steve Madureira, Lead Designer/Lead Animator, Airship Syndicate (Battle Chasers: Nightwar)

“On a personal level, the release of Rime after almost four years of development was quite intense. But that was nothing compared to the response of fans who reached the ending and shared their own personal stories.

“Since talking about your own game may sound selfish, there’s another moment that literally broke with so many conventions which is the final decision you must take at the (real) end of Nier: Automata. I won’t spoil it here but the realisation of what it meant for other players gave a new light to all your actions as a player.” Raul Rubio Munarriz, Director, Tequila Works (Rime)

“The beginning of Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus. Having played (and thoroughly enjoyed) The New Order and The Old Blood, I was expecting some more Nazi-killing shenanigans á la Inglorious Basterds, courtesy of the modern videogame Schwarzenegger, B.J. Blazkowicz.

“Instead, during the first 15 minutes or so, I got flashbacks of Blazkowicz’s traumatic childhood, showing his relationship with his abusive and racist father. It was a nice touch. A way for the developers to say ‘Hey, this is not just another Doomguy. This guy’s got issues’.

“And right when you think the story is getting too personal, they hit you with the Tarantino artillery: putting a ruined, stitched-back-together Blazkowicz in a wheelchair to repel a Nazi invasion. For the war never ends, and B.J. is far from done with it.”Román Echevarrena, Producer, RecoTechnology (Numantia)

Call of Duty: WWII Playlist Update Adds Double XP, 2x Division XP and 2x Weapon XP

Sledgehammer Games wants to ring in the New Year with a bang as the studio has rolled out a server-side Call of Duty: WWII playlist update that adds double XP across the board.

Players can expect double XP in multiplayer, double XP for Divisions, and double XP for weapons too! If you want to Prestige a Division or a weapon, now is the perfect time to do so. These double XP buffs will be available in Wintery Gun Game, Winter Carentan Standard Moshpit, and Winter Carentan Hardcore Moshpit, and will last until January 2, 2018!

These double XP buffs will stack with whatever double XP players get from Supply Drops and Epic and Heroic weapons. Speaking of which, don’t forget this little mini expose where we see that Heroic weapons in COD: WWII don’t really give an added 15 bonus XP for every kill.

Will you be spending the New Year fragging away in COD: WWII? Remember: take everything in moderation; lest you want the WHO to really flag gaming disorders as something addictive.

PUBG Player Count Breaches 3 Million Concurrent on PC

Just when you thought the PUBG player count articles had stopped, I drag you back in for more! On PC, the concurrent player count has stormed passed the 3 million mark. That’s 3 million players, all online and playing PUBG at the same time.

SteamCharts lists the new record figure as 3,080,769. (Also of note, is the now over 1 billion hours played. I mean, wow!)

And this is just on PC! With PUBG now available on Xbox One, it’d be interesting to know what the total number of concurrent players is, across all platforms. Sadly, we don’t have the tools for that just now! Hopefully the game’s Twitter account will boast about the figures soon…

Are you surprised by how PUBG continues to attract new players and keep them playing? Or is it to be expected of an addicting title like this? Let us know in the comments down below.

In other PUBG news, the Xbox One “Game Preview” version entered the UK sales charts at #4, Minkonet is providing the tech behind the new 3D replay and killcam features, and a map selection option is coming to the game at some point after launch.

PUBG PS4 Version Discussed by CH Kim, Says Sony Is “Very Strict About Quality”

With both PC and Xbox One players now enjoying PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, it’s understandable if PS4 players are feeling a bit left out. Even with a host of Sony exclusives ready to entertain, there’s still a PUBG-sized elephant in the room.

In an interview with Inven Global, PUBG Corp. CEO CH Kim discussed the PUBG PS4 version, which definitely seems to still be on the cards. Kim stated that the final goal would be “to launch the title on every platform.”

One problem that the PS4 platform presents, is that there’s no Early Access or Steam Preview equivalent. Kim says that Sony is “very strict about [quality].”

Inven: Many players also wonder when the PS version will be launched.

CH Kim: As it’s going to be an exclusive title on Xbox One for some time, we’d like to focus on completing the Xbox One PUBG for now. If we have the opportunity, the final goal would be to launch the title on every platform.

Early Access on Steam and Game Preview on Xbox One are like pre-release, so they don’t have a restriction on quality. However, PS is very strict about this. There were cases where a game took 6 months more to launch even when it was already completed. We are still in the stage of learning the console development environment and console gamers’ taste. We need to think about other platforms after evaluating and completing the Xbox One version first.

For the full interview, click here.

So it sounds like Kim is hoping to make a PUBG PS4 version. I guess it all comes down to the deal with Microsoft, and getting the game’s quality good enough for Sony.

Do you want to see PUBG on PS4? Let us know.

In other PUBG news, the Xbox One “Game Preview” version entered the UK sales charts at #4, Minkonet is providing the tech behind the new 3D replay and killcam features, and a map selection option is coming to the game at some point after launch.

Rumor: Red Dead Redemption 2 Release Date Leaked by Danish Retailer

A possible Red Dead Redemption 2 release date has popped up on Danish retailer Coolshop’s website. A date of June 8, 2018 is clearly seen in the screenshot below. (The date has since been removed from the listing, altered to just “2018.”)

The reason that this is newsworthy, is because Coolshop proved itself accurate with the Grand Theft Auto V release date. June 8 also lines up with the confirmed release period of spring 2018.

Red Dead News broke the story on Twitter:

If the tweet is unavailable to you, or isn’t loading on your device, here’s the text:

Who remembers this Danish Retailer who revealed the #GTAV (PS4/XB1)

Release date months before its announcement?

They’ve now listed Red Dead Redemption II to release on June 8th 2018.

What do you make of this potential release date? Hoping it comes out in June? Let us know.

In other Red Dead Redemption 2 news, you can check out the game’s story trailer here, and relive the 2016 reveal with this post.

PUBG Xbox Update Expands Squad Mode, Offers Players More Options

A new PUBG Xbox update has been deployed. It’s intended to “allow [players] to enjoy Squad mode in all the ways possible.”

Players are now able to play Squad mode as a one, two, or three-man squad, without the game matchmaking to fill up the empty slots.

The update was announced on Twitter:

If the embedded tweet isn’t viewable, please find the text copied and pasted below:

Xbox players, we will be deploying a patch at 3AM PST / 12PM CET to allow you to enjoy Squad mode in all the ways possible.

You will now be able to play Squad mode as a 1, 2, or 3-man squad without having to matchmake with other players.

I’m more of a Solo and Duo player myself, but I’m sure those who play Squads will love this update.

In other PUBG news, the Xbox One “Game Preview” version entered the UK sales charts at #4, Minkonet is providing the tech behind the new 3D replay and killcam features, and a map selection option is coming to the game at some point after launch.

Rumor: Destiny 2 Second Expansion to Be Called” God of Mars,” More Details Allegedly Leaked

While we just got the first Destiny 2 expansion, Curse of Osiris, earlier this month, hardcore Destiny 2 fans are no doubt already looking forward to the Destiny 2 second expansion (or known as Destiny 2 DLC 2 for those who call ’em that).

Over on Reddit, user “GodsofMarsLeak” posted what he said were screengrabs of the Destiny 2 next expansion leak on the Japanese PlayStation Store. It supposedly will be called “God of Mars,” and be out in May 2018 (more on this release date below).

Check out the purported screengrabs below.

Here’s what the translated text is said to have mentioned:

NOTE: Frames and Nanites seem to be a part of the same faction, not 2 different races as implied. So we’re getting 1 new enemy faction to combat.

Destiny 2 Expansion II: Gods of Mars sends your Guardian out to Mar’s Clovis Grove, a brand new destination that is host to an array of brand new missions and adventures. Work alongside the elusive Ana Bray in order to prevent Charlemagne, Matrix of Corruption from amassing an army of SIVA-enhanced weaponized frames before Mars is lost.

Features:

-Explore Mars’ Clovis Grove and uncover ‘Charlemagne’s Vault’ underneath the frozen wastes

-New story missions and adventures

-New themed weapons, armor, and gear to uncover

-New cooperative activities

-New competitive multiplayer arenas

-New Frame & Nanite Enemy Faction

-And more…

Presently, the purported JP PS Store listing has been taken down along with the images.

The leaker posted what he claims are screengrabs from the US PSN Store as well, which you can read below.

Note that in this English version, it mentions the release date as available in March 2018. Here’s what the images above state, just in case they didn’t load for you

Destiny 2 Expansion II: Gods of Mars sends your Guardian on a long journey to a brand new destination – the Frigid Vale of Mars, with an array of new missions, adventures, and enemies to fight. Charlemagne has reawoken on Mars and has imprisoned Rasputin within an ancient vault. Work with the elusive Ana Bray – long thought to be dead, in order to combat Charlemagne’s Remnants, free Rasputin, and uncover the secrets of Clovis Bray.

Features:

  • Explore the Frigid Vale, a new destination that conceals the mysterious Clovis Grove and Charlemagne’s Vault beneath its surface
  • New story missions and adventures
  • New themed weapons, armor, and gear to earn
  • New cooperative activities
  • New competitive multiplayer arenas
  • New enemy faction & bosses

Online features require an account and are subject to terms of service and applicable privacy policy (playstationnetwork.com/terms-of-service & playstationnetwork.com/privacy-policy).

68GB minimum save size Online Play (Required)

In the Reddit post by GodsofMars, he mentions that both listings have been deleted but he “managed” to grab screenshots.

Sourced directly from the U.S. and Japanese PSN stores. They’ve been deleted as of now. Release date is March 2018.

[UPDATE] – The American PSN store just uploaded and deleted the English version of the page. Original Japanese version was apparently deleted due to an employee translation error. I managed to snag a screenshot, and note that there are new plot elements added to the premise. The Japanese version was possibly a preliminary upload or a placeholder, but on the bright side, the DLC is actually possibly being released in March.

Now, before anyone starts believing any of these info as the real deal, a lot of people have jumped in on Reddit and said that they highly suspect the validity of this leak given the way the Japanese was written (it seemed like it was written in English, and then translated via Google Translate).

Check out some of the Reddit posts that are calling this out as fake.

The Japanese used in this leak is literally Google translated and doesn’t read as proper written Japanese. It also doesn’t match the Japanese syntax used on any other games on PSN or in the descriptions of Destiny 2/CoO. ):

I want to believe this leak is real, and I do think “Gods of Mars” is accurate (if anyone remembers the “Comet” [Taken King], “Vex Void” and “Forge of Gods” leak), but I’m not sure if the rest of the description is.

I’m not sure whether it’s purposeful obfuscation on the leaker’s part or an issue on Bungie’s end, but I don’t know if Bungie would be THAT lazy that they used Google Translate to write the description of the DLC… Although, one could argue it’s a generic “lorem ipsum” style template because it looks like it was accidentally set as public, to begin with.

It’s the same OP for both leaks, after he got called out for the blatant Japanese fake he magically acquired screenshots from the English PlayStation store, and posted them on r/raidsecrets of all places….

You can read more about the alleged leak right here, while this Reddit thread talks about why it’s highly likely a fake.

For our part, we’ve emailed Activision to seek a statement on this and will update the post if and when we get a response. That said, don’t be surprised if this is a fake, since there’s a ton of things suspect about it so far. Stranger things have happened though, so if it’s true, well, you saw it here first.

Tag this one as a rumor for now, but even if it is, it’s fun reading for the holidays.

Do you think this is legit or just someone hungry for attention? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
