Ubisoft Announces Rainbow Six Siege Open Beta, Starts November 25

Rainbow Six Siege may be launching on the 1st of December, but fans will be able to suit up and play the game early in the just-announced Open Beta taking place later this month.

“Pre-load will be available on 1st party marketplaces starting on November 23rd, and everyone who participated in the Closed Beta will have 24 hours early access starting on the 24th,” Ubisoft revealed earlier today.

“The Open Beta will be focused primarily on testing matchmaking and online infrastructure, and as such will only feature a limited scope of the game’s content. Your progression, inventory and Ranked gameplay during the Open Beta will not carry over into the final game.”

According to the studio’s latest blog post, fans will get their hands on a new map, new Operators, and a new Terrorist Hunt game mode, some of which weren’t in the Closed Beta. Visit the link to find out all the details.

An Open Beta only a few days before launch might sound odd, but it’s likely that Ubisoft wants to ensure a smooth launch by working out any network kinks that could make life difficult on release. It’s also a good way to demo the game before release, as it’s free and open to anyone.

Last week, the studio announced details on Rainbow Six Siege’s Season Pass, which you can learn more about here. Rainbow Six Siege launches December 1 on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.

Halo 5: Guardians – 343 ‘Working On’ Unranked Arena Playlists, Big Team Battle Modes Confirmed

The team at 343 Industries has its ears to the ground and have stayed tuned to fan feedback since Halo 5: Guardians‘ launch late last month.

Having had enough time to get acquainted with the shooter’s current offering of multiplayer playlists, fans are beginning to raise the question: ‘When will Halo get unranked Arena playlists?’ Though not very specific, 343 does have an answer.

“…we’ve heard the requests and we are actively working towards supporting unranked playlists for Arena in a future update,” said a 343 representative on the TeamBeyond Forums, along with an explanation on why it hasn’t happened yet. “It may seem straightforward on the surface but lighting up unranked play in Arena is not as simple as flipping a switch.”

While Halo 5’s large-scale Warzone playlist certainly offers a more relaxed multiplayer environment, it’s a radically different experience than the smaller-scale Arena and doesn’t always suit the mood. The primary benefit of an unranked Arena playlist would be to allow individuals or parties to either warm up or simply enjoy 4v4 modes like Slayer without the stress of maintaining their CSR rank.

343 has yet to share when Halo 5’s unranked Arena update might hit, but fans recently learned that the long-awaited Big Team Battle playlist will arrive as soon as this week. Specifics on the update are still on the way, but thanks to 343 community manager “Bravo,” we now know what games modes to expect. On Reddit, he confirmed that Halo 5’s Big Team Battle update will include BTB CTF, BTB Strongholds, and BTB Slayer at launch.

Keep your sights on MP1st for more Halo 5: Guardians updates.

Creepy New NUK3TOWN Easter Egg Discovered In Call of Duty: Black Ops 3

There’s more to those creepy-looking mannequins on Call of Duty: Black Ops 3‘s NUK3TOWN map than meets the eye.

As you may recall, this easter egg was discovered on the popular multiplayer map shortly after the game’s launch. Essentially, if players could shoot the heads off all of the mannequins within two minutes from the start of a match, they’d come alive and begin attacking everyone the same way Call of Duty’s zombies would.

As it turns out, they’ll behave radically different if you can shoot their arms off within the same time limit. Call of Duty commentator ChaosXSilencer explains how to do it and shows off what it looks like if done correctly:

[youtube id=”JnUPdKQohd0″]

Pretty cool. We wonder if there are any other secrets to be discovered.

New Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Game Settings Update Includes Weapon Tuning

After one week out in the wild, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is getting its first round of weapon tuning tweaks via the latest Game Settings update.

Among other things, this Friday’s update introduces fixes for Medal and Challenge bugs as well as Out of Bounds exploits. It also makes a few settings changes to Arena CTF.

As for the new weapon tweaks, Studio Design Director David Vonderhaar dropped by Reddit to provide more details. He laid it out simply:

Nerfed

  • Gorgon
  • XR-2
  • Pharo
  • VMP
  • Haymaker

Buffed

  • Razorback
  • HVK-30
  • Dingo
  • KRM-262
  • Argus
  • Locus

More specifically, Vonderhaar explained that “Most of these edits were very small and range from clip sizes, to damage range, to ADS time in/out adjustments, modifications to Quickdraw Bonus(es) for LMGs, recoil reductions.”

“The general philosophy is to tune in small increments either up or down, until we have a really healthy set of data and player opinion to work from,” he says.

There’ll likely be more weapon edits to come, but here’s what we have to work with for now. Any thoughts?

Destiny’s Iron Banner Gets Upgraded With More Rewards & New Game Mode, Returns Next Week

Next week, Destiny‘s most powerful Guardians will meet head-to-head in the Iron Banner once again, but this time with a slight change of setting.

Having traditionally featured the three-flag Control game mode, next week’s Iron Banner will test your strength in Clash, turning the competition into a straight-up team deathmatch.

In Bungie’s latest Weekly Update, Senior Designer Derek Carroll says he expects “to see a bit less Super ability usage, and a lot more shooting across the board, but good teams will work together and hold territory even without the scoring incentives that Control provided.”

There’s more, too. Here are a few other tweaks the team is making to Iron Banner, which will also take effect next week:

  • Iron Banner reputation from winning matches increased by 20%
  • Activity completion rewards increased at all ranks, with even more significant increases at Rank 2 and above
  • Packages from Lord Saladin upon reaching Rank 3 and Rank 5
  • Iron Banner Artifacts can be obtained from the Rank 3 package
  • Iron Banner Ghost Shells can be obtained from the Rank 5 package or activity completion rewards

Before all that, Destiny’s November update will also drop, introducing some of the new economy changes that were outlined last week, ending the weapon part drought of 2015. In addition, it’s said that Lord Shaxx will sell all three Legendary Swords to any Guardian who’s finished the “Blademaster” quest for the Exotic Sword. There’s also word of a new Refer-a-Friend program that Bungie says will reward Guardians helping other newer Guardians joining in on the quest to ‘become legend’ this holiday season. More details on that are to come, however.

Looking forward to Iron Banner next week? Do you think the new changes are enough to spice things up and add more excitement? Tell us in the comments.

DICE LA Announces More Free DLC For Battlefield 4, Dragon Valley Returns In “Legacy Operations”

EA isn’t done with Battlefield 4 just yet. After two major updates to the game in recent months, including Community Operations and Night Operations, Developer DICE LA is getting ready to deliver yet another later this year.

Legacy Operations, as its called, will launch alongside Battlefield 4’s Holiday Update, bringing the fan-favorite Battlefield 2 map, Dragon Valley, to 2015 in modern fashion with the help of the Frostbite 3 engine. Like we’ve seen in previous footage, the new Dragon Valley map will suite large-scale, vehicle warfare with a large number of capture points and destructible/repairable bridges. We also recently learned that the layout of its Team Deathmatch variant will mimic the popular Battlefield 3 map, Noshahr Canals.

Because of its scale, DICE LA says the new map will only be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. An exact release date hasn’t been announced just yet. For now, check out some new footage and screens below and tell us what you think in the comments!

“Battle Of Shadow And Light” Update Brings Big-Team-Battle, New REQ Packs To Halo 5 Guardians

343 Industries is making good on their promise to bring free content to Halo 5: Guardians, starting next week with the just-announced “Battle of Shadow and Light” update.

According to the studio, the update will mark the arrival of the 8v8 Big Team Battle playlist along with four new Big Team Battle canvases, aka Forge Maps: Deadlock, Basin, Guillotine, and Recurve. According to 343, the first set of maps “present just a hint of the content featured in next month’s update.” So, it sounds like there’s more to come.

In addition to next week’s content, a healthy dose of new items are being added to Halo 5’s REQ system, including new armor sets, weapon skins, vehicles, emblems, and a new assassination move. Check out the new REQs below:

nov-cu-infographic-secret-fc517733ed534fd4aa467d338b264ffc

It doesn’t sound like 343 has nailed down an exact launch date for the update just yet, other than “next week,” but we’ll keep you posted.

As for this weekend, Multiplayer Designer Quinn DelHoyo has made the call, suggesting that Team Doubles will very likely be the featured playlist, according to votes.

What are your thoughts on Halo 5: Guardians’ first free update? Excited to hop into some Big Team Battle next week?

Activision Scores Over Half a Billion Dollars On Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Opening Weekend

Treyarch’s big launch last weekend has brought the Call of Duty franchise to new heights, bringing in over $550 million in worldwide sales on opening weekend, Activision reports.

This makes Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 the biggest entertainment launch of 2015, beating out music, book, and theatrical box office launches, including Jurassic World. Comparing Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare’s numbers, this year’s digital sales on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One have risen 100%. On PlayStation 4, Black Ops 3 set a new record with the most digital units sold in its first day of availability. Engagement is also at an all-time high with more than 75 million hours played online over the course of three days.

“The Call of Duty: Black Ops III launch is bigger than any game, any movie, or any entertainment launch this year. But more importantly, our fans are engaging more deeply with the franchise than ever before. In fact, so far, people are playing Black Ops III for more hours per player than any Call of Duty game on record,” said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing. “Call of Duty is more than a game, it’s a year round passion for a growing base of millions of fans and it’s only gaining momentum.”

Our initial impressions of Treyarch’s shooter are, so far, very positive, but we’re still exploring everything it has to offer, which is a lot, before presenting our final review. So, hang tight!

What are your first thoughts? Let us hear ’em in the comments below.

EA Releases New Star Wars Battlefront Live-Action Trailer, Reveals Download Sizes On PS4, X1, & PC

Appealing to a wide range of gamers and film-goers, both young and old, Star Wars Battlefront is easily one of the most anticipated titles to come out of EA in some time. Luckily, millions of fans need only wait one more week until DICE’s shooter is finally here.

As excitement builds up, EA has launched a new live-action trailer that I would say fairly represents the broad spectrum of people who might find some enjoyment out of Battlefront, a game based on one of the most popular and well-loved franchises in history. If you haven’t seen it yet, you can have a look above, featuring actress Anna Kendrick.

As for something a little more related to the launch next week, EA has also clarified on Twitter the amount of hard drive space PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC users will need to install the game on November 17. As far as some of the more recent triple-A titles on current-gen go, Battlefront isn’t actually all the big of a download. Here are the sizes:

PlayStation 4 \\ 23GB

Xbox One \\ 19GB

Origin \\ 27GB

See you on the battlefield next week!

Xbox Reveals 104 Back Compat Titles For November, COD: Black Ops & Halo: Reach On The Way

Microsoft has lifted the curtain off the first 104 Xbox 360 titles that will be playable on Xbox One via Back Compat starting this Thursday, November 12, when the New Xbox One Experience finally launches.

If you’ve happened to hang on to any of listed Xbox 360 titles (below), you’ll be able to play them on Xbox One at no additional cost and even used some of the console’s core features like taking screenshots, recording DVR clips, broadcasting on Twitch, and streaming to a Windows 10 PC or laptop. In addition, all Xbox 360 games available through Games with Gold after November 12 will also be playable on Xbox One.

There are more on the way too, says Microsoft, including favorites like Halo Reach, Halo Wars, Call of Duty: Black Ops 1, Bioshock, Bioshock 2, Bioshock Infinite, and Skate 3. Xbox gamers can expect a new batch of games to be revealed in December.

If you remember back to the survey Microsoft conducted a few months ago, asking Xbox fans what games they’d like to see available through Xbox One’s Back Compat program, Call of Duty dominated nearly all of the top spots. So, hopefully, we’ll see more classic COD titles hit Xbox One in the future.

For now, what do you think of the first batch of Xbox 360 titles hitting Xbox One later this week? What unlisted Xbox 360 games do you hope will make the list in the future?

Treyarch Reveals Black Ops 3’s Secret “Nightmares” Mode In New Trailer

The undead are relentless in their thirst for human flesh, especially the ones in Treyarch’s Call of Duty games. As some of you may have already discovered, Black Ops 3’s Zombies can’t be contained to just one mode.

“It’s part of our studio’s DNA to launch a game with a few surprises – and we see that some of you have already begun to find your way to this one,” said Treyarch in a note to fans, referring to a secret game mode that wasn’t previously advertised. “If you complete the Campaign, you can access ‘Nightmares’ mode and play it again in an entirely new way…but with Zombies.”

Pretty straight forward. Complete the campaign, kill even more zombies. Have any of you unlocked it yet? Check out the new trailer above, set to the hard rock sounds of Avenged Sevenfold.

While you’re at it, here are 9 other all-new things you need to try in Call of Duty: Black Ops 3.
